THE JAGUAR KINGDOM, BIRDS & MAMMALS  OF  PANTANAL

Day 1. Cuiabá airport to Pouso Alegre, a traditional Pantanal ranch.

Arrival at Cuiabá airport in the morning, where you will meet your guide and transfer to the Pantanal. After driving about one and a half hour we arrive in Poconé. From here our wildlife adventure starts as we hit the Transpantaneira road, a dirt road that transects the Northern Pantanal. We will arrive at our lodge just before lunch time. After our midday break we go on a forest walk in search for dry land mammals and birds. At night we go on a night safari in search for night animals like Ocelot, Puma, Giant Anteaters, Tamandua, Crab-eating Raccoon, Potoos and Owls. Dinner and Overnight. (L,D)

Full day at Pouso Alegre Lodge - Traditional Pantanal ranch.

We have a full day to explore the many photo opportunities at this place. This ranch stands is best spot to find Giant Anteaters & Tapirs in the Northern Pantanal, and often offers close encounters with other species such as Red-brocket and Marsh Deer, Coati, Tayra, and Brazilian Tapir. After dinner we will go on a night safari in search of mammals and other nocturnal wildlife which may yield good views of Great Horned Owl, Nightjar, Pottoo and many other possibilities. Pouso Alegre lodge and transfer to Porto Jofre.

Early breakfast and checkout. This morning we drive further into the Pantanal, all the way to the end of the Transpantaneira road.  We will stop to photograph all kind of wildlife. Check-in at our lodge situated on the riverbank of the mighty Cuiabá river. Lunch and break. In the afternoon we go on our first boat safari in search for Jaguars and other Wildlife concentrated along the riverbanks. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Days 4 & 5.* Boat safaris for Jaguars and other wildlife in the State Park.

We will have three full days devoted to the boat safaris on the Cuiabá River and its tributaries, in order to maximize our chances of watching and photographing Jaguars, Giant River Otters and a realm of wildlife in the Meeting of the Waters State Park. Our outings will always be during the day, from sunrise to lunch and after our midday break we go out again until sunset. (B,L,D)

Breakfast and check out. Overland safari to the Piuval lodge. We will stop to photograph all kind of wildlife and arrive around lunch time at our lodge. Checkin. PANTANAL JAGUAR BUDGET TOUR – 4 DAYS

This jaguar tour is the cheapest option we have! Budget not means it is a cheap tour, but if we compare with the other JAGUAR TOURS, this is the cheaper, because the accommodations are cheaper than the other one. In terms of wildlife spotting, this tour is so good like the tours more expensive.

This activity itinerary is only an example how can be the activities distribution during your stay in the Pantanal and it can have chances according the weather and environmental conditions.

Day 01 – Private Transfer from Cuiabá to Pousada Pouso Alegre, Pantanal North

Pick up at the airport or hotel in Cuiabá and private transfer to the Pousada Pouso Alegre located in Pantanal North. The trip from Cuiabá to the lodge are almost 140km, it takes 02 up to 03 hours (depend of the conditions of the dirt road) been 100km in paved road until the Poconé City + 33 km of dirt road (Transpantaneira road) from Poconé to the farm entrance + 07 km of trail inside of the farm to where is located the Lodge.

Arrival at the lodge and check in. After relax a little bit and before get dark, you go for a nature walking for about 1h30m up to hours, where you will pass on boardwalk and bush. During the hike the guide, explain about the Pantanal´s environment and you have chance to spot coat mundi, agouti and many birds.

After dinner, you go to night car safari around the ranch area. In this tour a “silibim” (powerful lantern) is used, which reflects to the eyes of the animals, this allowing the best location of animals of nocturnal habits such as alligators, owls, fox, spider, tapir, etc. The night tour takes about 1 hour up to 1h30m. At night, the starry sky of the Pantanal is also a beautiful attraction.

Day 2 – Pantanal day tour with English speaking guide

Before breakfast, you go for a sunrise walk for about 1 hour to search for wildlife and birds. Around the lodge, there are bodies of water and marshes where the morning activity of birds, caimans, and other animals, encourages one to wake up and watch the sun rising outdoors. You have the chance of see the beautiful sunrise in Pantanal and great chances of spot Tapir, eating crab fox, dears, raccoons and birds.

After breakfast, you go for a car safari inside of the farm area. The trails scattered throughout each sector of the farm gives access to different environments, such as dry forests, flooded forests, savannahs, fields and swamps, providing the opportunity to sighting several kinds of Pantanal´s wildlife. Also Inside of the farm area there are many waterholes during the dry season, where can be discreetly observed tapirs, anteaters, deer, coatis and many other wildlife, as well as several medium-sized birds. The tour duration goes from 1h30m up to 2h30m depending on the climatic season.

After lunch, private transfer to Porto Jofre region located in the end of the Transpantaneira Road, almost 120km from Pousada Pouso Alegre. The trip will take between 4 and 5 hours and stops along the way will be made to spot wildlife (photographic Safari). Check-in at Pousada do Neco in the Porto Jofre region. Dinner. Overnight in Private room with air-condition and bathroom. (B,L,D)

Day 3 – Day tour with English speaking guide (boat tour searching for Jaguars)

After Breakfast, you will go to a jaguar motor Boat tour to search for the biggest cat of the Americas. The best months for spot Jaguars on the region is from July up to October, during the dry season, when the jaguar are closer to the rivers, looking for water and hunting. You will spend the full day in the rivers searching Jaguars and another wildlife like giant others, capybaras, caimans, monkeys and several species of birds. The tour happen on the Cuiabá, Piquiri and Três Irmãos rivers ( Parque Estadual Encontro das Águas ). Normally at lunchtime, there is a stop under the shade of the trees where you have your meal, served in a lunch box. After a short rest, you will continue the tour searching for jaguars and other wildlife. The boat has a small cover, which helps to protect from the sun, which is very hot during the dry season in the Pantanal. Return to the Lodge in the end of the day.

Day 4 – Private transfer from Pantanal (Porto Jofre) to Cuiabá

After breakfast, transfer back to Cuiabá. The trip will take between 5 up to 6 hours and some wildlife can be spotted on the way back to the city. (B).

Day 1, Start Cuiabá to Pantanal ranch

Meeting in the morning at the airport (CGB) or hotel in Cuiabá city and transfer to our Pantanal ranch. After driving about one and a half hour we arrive in Poconé. Full day devoted to explore the many wildlife oppurtunities on this extraordinary private reserve. Our activities are a combination of overland safaris and nature walks. The guide will accompany you on all excursions to truly enhance your wildlife viewing. (B,L,D).

Day 3 - Pantanal ranch to Porto Jofre

Early start to witness the awakening of the Pantanal. Breakfast and check out. This morning we will drive further into the Pantanal, all the way through Transpantaneira, to Porto Jofre. Stop to photograph all kind of wildlife concentrated in the water ponds on both sides along the road. Lunch and break. After a brief break,  we go on our first boat safari in the  Meeting of the Waters State Park .   Located in a convergence area of large rivers and preserved woods, this area is considered today the best place on the planet to observe jaguars in their natural habitat. Our safaris are operated on modern boats, equipped with radio and helmed by expert guides specialized in tracking these big cats . Dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 4 - 5, Morning and afternoon boat safari

Two days devoted to explore the Cuiabá river and its tributaries. Our naturalist-guided water safaris are timed to allow photography during the first and last hour of light and give you the best chance of viewing jaguars. During excursions, you will also encounter other interesting wildlife. Watch for Giant River Otters, Caimans, Howler Monkeys, Capybaras and many bird species. Our outings will be always a full day, from sunrise to sunset, with a break for lunch and siesta at the lodge. The exact lengths of the outings will, of course, vary depending on the sightings and you should be prepared to be flexible with the timetable. (B,L,D)

Day 6, Transfer out.

After breakfast, head back to Cuiabá where the trip ends around 2pm. (B)

Dona Onça Jaguar Lodge.

Dona Onça Jaguar lodge is an accommodation in Porto Jofre. Mr. Euripolis Sousa Ribeiro together with his wife Mrs. Antonia Catariana Brandão Ribeiro, built the lodge in 2021.  the structure is very new and clean. The white building is made of recycling material. As a result, it reminds the interior of a ship, like the so-called flotels by the Cuiabá river. All in all, Dona Onça  is a family business. Basically, Dona Onça has a small structure. In general, It contains only four rooms giving the visitors the special feeling of a very private stay. The rooms are very confortable with aircon and mattresses of the best quality. The  bathrooms are modern and clean with hot showers. In front of the rooms, there´s a varanda with confortable chairs. 

Likewise, the restaurant in the jaguar hotel is clean with aircon, wooden tables and chairs. Indeed, the food is delicious. The buffets are filled with Beef, Pork, fish, chicken, rice, beans, salads and vegetables. In sume, when looking for lodges in Porto Jofre, Dona onça is definitely an option. The lodge is a good option for your Pantanal safari .

Activities.

Moreover, Dona Onça Jaguar lodge, offers boat drives with their own private boats. In this case, There are two modalities of tours. The first one are the  Jaguar safaris  where tourists make boat drives for eight hours looking for jaguars. The lodge offers picnic on the river and water, as well as soft drinks and acooholic beverages. Furthermore, the lodge offers,  sport fishing  for tourists who loves having fun by catching big fishes in the best area in the Pantanal for this acrivity.

The jaguar (Panthera onca) is the largest cat native to the Americas and the third largest cat in the world, after tiger and lios their lion.
