Any fan seeing “ Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour” won’t be in for a huge number of surprises when it comes to the movie setlist, which largely follows the template that was locked into place — with a few exceptions or switch-outs — through the entire five-month 2023 U.S. tour. But there are a few choices that couldn’t exactly have been predicted. (Scroll down to see the full movie setlist.)

On the positive side, fans finally learned at Wednesday night’s premiere in L.A. which pair of songs got picked to represent the tour’s nightly “secret songs” segment, and most were quite pleased at the choices.

Popular on Variety

Both these songs had been performed previously in the wild-card slot on the tour, semi-breaking her rule that she would not repeat any songs chosen for those spots unless she flubbed them the first time. Judging from the results, she may have felt it was worth bending the rules a little to get those in the movie. The other four songs she performed as wild cards in those three nights of filming that presumably could have been in the movie were “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “Maroon” (both of these also repeated songs from earlier in the tour), “You Are in Love” and “I Can See You.”

So, which are the dropped songs that made at least some fans feel like they were suffering death from, like, five cuts?

Those were “The Archer,” “No Body, No Crime” (featuring Haim), “Long Live,” “Cardigan” and her condensed version of “Wildest Dreams.”

There were songs that had only been a part of a set earlier in the tour which did not make the movie either, of course. Those are “‘Tis the Damn Season,” which got played every night except when Haim was opening and it was deemed expendable in the service of adding “No Body, No Crime”; “Nothing New,” which only got performed the 12 times in which Phoebe Bridgers was on hand as opening act and able to sing her duet part in the main set; and “Invisible String,” which only got played the first five nights of the tour, before it was replaced by “The 1,” although it was brought back just once, for a May show in Nashville. (Swift said she was reviving it that night in honor of a bench dedicated to her being placed in Centennial Park, which is mentioned in the tune.)

It’s believed Swift dropped the five regular setlist songs that were presumably filmed in L.A. but not used to keep the running time for the movie manageable. The film clocks in at a breezy — well, breezy to Swifties — 2 hours and 45 minutes, versus the even more epic 3 hours and 25 minutes that some of the concerts ran to by the time the tour reached L.A.

Other, less noticeable nips and tucks were made to cut about 40 minutes out of the L.A. concerts. A nightly standing ovation after “Champagne Problems” that had grown to more than seven minutes by the end of the tour got reduced to less than a minute for movie purposes. A spoken-word recitation of part of “Seven” that opened the “Folklore” segment was snipped. And the seven moments in which Swift disappeared from the stage for a costume change between “eras” all obviously made for easy trims. (Swift was truly the master of the quick-change on this tour, though; those time-outs were clocked and just about all were timed at two minutes or less, accounting for only about 15 minutes of the concerts’ running time.)

Some fans are disappointed that not every setlist staple made it into the movie, but given that 40 out of 45 songs did, there are a couple of ways to look at it: that the glass is about 10% empty, or about 90% full.

“Long Live” does make an appearance in the film, by the way, just not in a live rendition. “Long Live (Taylor’s Version)” plays over the end credits, which also feature a combination of fan footage and rehearsal bloopers.

Here Are All the Songs in ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Movie

Find out which songs from the tour setlist were cut

the eras tour movie surprise songs

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. And now you can rent “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on digital to watch at home. Read on for the 41 songs that made the cut to truly represent all 10 of Swift’s eras.

Now that the film is heading exclusively to Disney+ for streaming , additional acoustic surprise songs will make it into the film, all of which were filmed during the Los Angeles SoFi shows.

Every surprise song Taylor Swift has performed on the ‘Eras Tour’ so far

During every “Eras Tour” concert, there comes a time that audiences are always waiting for: surprise-song o’clock.

This is when Taylor Swift sits down with just a guitar and a piano to play acoustic versions of two songs — sometimes mashups, sometimes not — that change between each show. And fans don’t know what songs she’s chosen that night until the surprise-song set starts.

Swift resumed her "Eras Tour" May 9 in Paris , fresh on the heels of releasing her 11th album, “The Tortured Poets Department” April 29. While the setlist saw some significant changes — including the addition of a new era — Swift upheld her tradition of performing surprise songs.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour - Melbourne, Australia

Last year, Swift said she’d aim not to repeat surprise songs during the “Eras Tour,” leaving fans to track each night’s performances like detectives, watching their favorite songs get picked off in the lead up to their own concert date.

But after Swift announced that she “reset” the eligibility of all songs for 2024 and introduced twists, it’s impossible to predict what she’ll do next.

Intrepid Swifties keeping record of all the songs Swift has performed have noted that, while there are several songs that have been played multiple times, there are some songs that the singer has not at all. Those include:

  • "Mary's Song"
  • "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "The Way I Loved You"
  • "Superstar"
  • "We Were Happy"
  • "That's When"
  • "Don't You"
  • "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Girl At Home"
  • "Forever Winter"
  • "Sweeter Than Fiction"

  • "The Black Dog"
  • "imgonnagetyouback"
  • "The Albatross"

In total, six songs have been cut from the Eras Tour concert film. 'The Archer', 'Cardigan' and 'Wildest Dreams' do not feature in the film. Neither does ''tis the damn season', which was replaced in the setlist during the Los Angeles shows when filming took place. However, 'no body, no crime ft. HAIM' – the song that replaced 'tis the damn season' – doesn't appear either.

The live performance of 'Long Live' does not feature in the movie, but the Taylor's Version of the song does play over the end credits.

  • 'The Archer'
  • 'No Body, No Crime'
  • ''Tis the damn season'
  • 'Long Live'
  • 'Cardigan'
  • 'Wildest Dreams'

The 'seven' interlude , which plays just before the Folklore section, is also not included in the movie. During the actual Eras Tour show, the lyrics to 'seven' are spoken by Taylor as a poem.

And, if we're taking the surprise songs that she performed on the nights the concert was recorded into account, 'I Can See You', 'Maroon', 'You Are In Love' and 'Death By A Thousand Cuts' also did not make the cut.

What interludes got cut from The Eras Tour movie?

The full interlude reads: "If you wish to romanticise the woman I became / then say you'll remember me / standin' in a nice dress / Starin' at the sunset. Or you could begin at the beginning / And in that case..." Taylor then recites the lyrics to 'seven' before beginning the Folklore section.

What speeches got cut from The Eras Tour movie?

Additionally, fans have reported that the speech Taylor usually gives just before her performance of 'Betty' has also been cut from the film.

The speech, which varies from show-to-show, features Taylor explaining how she loves the idea of men apologising for things, and how that played into the narrative of James apologising to Betty in the song.

Taylor's performances of 'The Archer', 'Cardigan' and 'Wildest Dreams' are among those cut from the Eras Tour movie

Eras Tour concert film setlist: What songs does Taylor perform?

So, with 6 songs cut from the list of tracks that Taylor performs on the night, the Eras Tour movie includes 40 songs in total.

  • Lover : Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, Cruel Summer, The Man, You Need To Calm Down, Lover
  • Fearless : Fearless, You Belong With Me, Love Story
  • Evermore : Willow, Marjorie, Champagne Problems, Tolerate It
  • Reputation : ...Ready For It?, Delicate, Don't Blame Me, Look What You Made Me Do
  • Speak Now : Enchanted
  • Red : 22, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, I Knew You Were Trouble, All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
  • Folklore : The 1, Betty, The Last Great American Dynasty, August, Illicit Affairs, My Tears Ricochet
  • 1989 : Style, Blank Space, Shake It Off, Bad Blood
  • Midnights: Lavender Haze, Anti-Hero, Midnight Rain, Vigilante Shit, Bejeweled, Mastermind, Karma

What are the two surprise songs in the Eras Tour movie?

The two surprise songs that made the cut for the concert film are: 'Our Song' and 'You're On Your Own, Kid'

With the inclusion of 'Our Song', the Eras Tour film now officially features songs from all 10 of Taylor's studio albums. There is still no specific section for her debut album on the tour.

The inclusion of 'You're On Your Own, Kid' also makes Midnights the most represented album on the movie setlist, with 8 songs.

The 'dive' transition that Taylor does after performing the two surprise songs has also remained in the concert film.

Who gets the '22' hat in the Eras Tour concert film?

At every show, Taylor gives away the hat she's wearing when she performs '22' – and the adorable moment has been kept in the concert film.

The lucky fan who has been chosen for the moment is Bianka Bryant, the daughter of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant who accepted the hat from Taylor on Night 1 of her Los Angeles run.

Eras Tour Movie: Which Taylor Swift Surprise Songs Made it in, and Which Songs Were Cut?

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie is officially here! If you weren't able to attend the show or haven't gone yet (she's still got some dates left, after all), it's the perfect time to immerse yourself in all things Swiftian. However, just like book-to-film adaptations, the Eras Tour movie isn't exactly like the live Eras Tour for a few specific reasons.

Related: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: The Pinnacle of Taylor on Her Own Terms

For one, the movie is a little bit shorter than the tour ; the tour is over three hours long, given that Swift is revisiting all of her musical eras in some form, and the movie is about two hours and 45 minutes. That means that not all of the songs are included, and there are a few other tweaks that you'll want to look out for when you settle into your comfy theater seat.

Here's what to know about the Eras tour movie, including where to watch.

Which songs were cut from the Eras tour movie?

Nearly three hours is a long time to sit in a movie theater, even if it's watching your favorite artist perform on the big screen. As noted by People , much of the film was shot during Swift's six-night run in Los Angeles, so a handful of songs she played during those dates didn't make it in. You won't see “The Archer” from Lover, the Haim duet “No Body, No Crime” and “'Tis the Damn Season" from evermore, “Long Live” from Speak Now, “Nothing New” from Red, “Wildest Dreams” from 1989 or “Cardigan” and “Invisible String” from folklore.

A few interludes were also cut from the show, likely because they were onstage transitions to shift from era to era. However, a few of them — including the Reputation snake — did make the cut.

Did any surprise songs make it in?

Swift played two surprise songs during each stop of the tour, and some of them did make the cut in the film. Swift played “Maroon” and “You're On Your Own, Kid” from Midnights, “Our Song” from her debut, “You Are In Love” from 1989 , “Death by a Thousand Cuts" from Lover, and “I Can See You” from Speak Now (Taylor's Version) during her L.A. stops. However, only “Our Song” and “You're On Your Own, Kid” appear in the movie.

What else should I know about the Eras tour movie?

It's a pretty faithful interpretation of the show despite the cuts, and it's basically like sitting in the prime section of the venue, except that you have popcorn and a themed cup. “The main thing we’re trying to do is provide the theatrical audience with the best seat in the house,” John Ross, the rerecording mixer on The Eras tour movie, told the New York Times . “If you were to attend a concert and get the premium seat, that’s my job, to convey that image sonically and situationally.”

The New York Times also reports that there are no bonus features, unlike several of Swift's prior tour movies.

Where can I watch the Eras tour movie?

If you don't already have tickets, you might want to start shopping. The movie has already sold over $100 million in advance ticket sales , which is wild.

Every AMC theater in the United States will show the concert film about four times per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The movie will also be available in Canada and Mexico. Tickets are available via AMC , Cinemark , Regal , and Fandango and retail for $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for kids.

Share All sharing options for: Ranking Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Surprise Song Sets

Since Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour began making its way across the country this spring, 10:30 p.m. Swift Local Time has marked the unofficial start of Surprise Song O’Clock. Maybe you’ve been lucky enough to be in the audience one of those nights and have crossed your fingers and toes in hopes that she’ll play a personal favorite deep cut or bring out a special guest. Maybe you’ve followed along every night on TikTok livestreams dutifully uploaded by on-site Swifties, making sure fans far and wide can find out which two songs not part of the Eras main set list Swift has chosen for her mini acoustic set that night.

During the early shows of the tour, Swift laid out her self-imposed rules: one song on guitar, one on piano, and she would allow herself to repeat only songs from her 2022 album, Midnights , or any other song where she’d messed up the words. (She’s largely followed her own rules, repeating only one song, “Clean,” before heading into the final stretch of shows in Los Angeles, where she has since repeated two tracks from Midnights and fan favorites “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” which she messed up the first time, and “Our Song”—which might have been performed a second time because of whatever documentary was obviously being filmed in L.A.) This isn’t the first time Swift has included surprise songs in live shows—there was one per night on the Reputation Stadium Tour, and the 1989 World Tour included surprise duets with different guests—but this has been a savvy move for a tour meant to highlight her entire discography and a way for Swift to keep every show fresh, even when some concertgoers will have seen the whole thing online months before attending in person.

Plus, it’s a showcase for one of Swift’s superpowers : the ability to make each person in a crowd of tens of thousands feel like she’s talking or singing right to them. Each surprise song set has been a special moment in its own right, but, of course, some songs were more highly anticipated than others, and now that she’s wrapped up the first U.S. leg of the Eras Tour (in epic fashion, we must add), we’ve decided to rank all 53 (!!) of them here:

1. August 9 in Los Angeles, California: “New Romantics” and “New Year’s Day”

The anticipation for this surprise song set grew with every new—and blue—outfit Swift wore throughout the closing night of her record-setting six-run stop at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. As she ended the first U.S. leg of the Eras Tour on the ninth day of the eighth month, after more than a year of teases about 1989 (Taylor’s Version) , you just knew something epic was coming. And after crossing off “I Know Places” the night before, she picked the last 1989 track remaining on the surprise song big board: her musical Cinderella story, “New Romantics.” It started as a Target deluxe edition track, and now she’s closing tours and announcing albums with a note-perfect (yes, down to the sign) sing-along of it on the guitar, and everyone was too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet. Swift could have followed “New Romantics” with “ Monologue Song ” and this night would still have a case for the top spot (though maybe that’s a bad example—“Monologue Song” slaps), but she had more than that in store. At the piano, she surprised the star-studded crowd— hi, Karlie !—with “New Year’s Day,” which, even in August, was the perfect way to close this portion of the tour. Hold on to the memories, because every night felt just like a dream. — Nora Princiotti

2. May 26 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Getaway Car” With Jack Antonoff and “Maroon”

“I know you guys want to hear this one,” Swift said before introducing “Getaway Car” during the first of three shows at MetLife Stadium. She was right! “Getaway Car” as your surprise song is a Tier 1 I-was-there-when Swiftie experience. Jack Antonoff gives me low-grade social anxiety, but the fact that the performance was a nod to this footage of the two of them in an original writing session made this choice both an in-joke and a massive crowd-pleaser. We also can’t underrate the phenomenal version of “Maroon,” performed live for the first time at the piano. An all-time classic plus the chance to hear an excellent deep(ish) cut performed in a new way? I don’t know how it gets better than that. The cherry on top is that the whole crowd was expecting “Welcome to New York.” — Princiotti

3. August 5 in Los Angeles, California: “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”

L.A. stayed winning. With Swift apparently filming some kind of tour movie during her dates at SoFi Stadium, those shows had a little extra sizzle and great surprise song choices. Fans of the Lover: Live From Paris show know that a live acoustic set is where “Death by a Thousand Cuts” thrives. To pair it with “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” in some ways a manifesto for The Eras Tour itself, was truly special. — Princiotti

4. May 19 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “Should’ve Said No” and “Better Man”

This is exactly what a dream surprise song set should be. “Should’ve Said No” is one of Taylor’s oldest tracks, off her debut album, which was notably absent from The Eras Tour, and it’s previously been part of an iconic live performance (the “Bad Blood” mash-up from the 2018 Reputation Tour). And I’ll argue that “Better Man” is her best vault track (apologies to fast-rising “I Can See You”). She gave “Better Man” to Little Big Town and has rarely performed it live, but that Friday night in Foxborough, she finally gave it the stadium treatment it deserved. — Lindsay Jones

5. April 1 in Arlington, Texas: “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “Clean”

“Death by a Thousand Cuts” is basically an automatic top five. A pairing with “Clean,” which has often been a particularly emotional live song, as Swift positions it as a chance for her audience to collectively move beyond whatever challenges they’ve faced, made the surprise set at this DFW show a tour highlight. Swift did bungle a few lyrics in “Clean,” but that just meant she got to do it again further down the line. — Princiotti

6. June 24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota: “Dear John” and “Daylight”

My daughter and I were sitting in the left field bleachers at Coors Field, watching a historically awful loss by our hometown Colorado Rockies, during this particularly epic Surprise Song O’Clock. I cranked the volume on my iPhone to the max as we listened to Taylor give a long introduction to her first acoustic song, imploring fans not to “defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about.” What followed was her first performance of “Dear John” in 11 years—and sorry, Tay, we all know that song’s about John Mayer, despite your best attempts to play coy all these years later. And she paired it with “Daylight,” a song that is infinitely better when performed live on just a guitar than it was on the studio album Lover . That’s an elite surprise song set. — Jones

7. August 3 in Los Angeles, California: “I Can See You” and “Maroon”

Taylor kicked off her six-show run in L.A. with a hell of a pairing—the live debut of “I Can See You,” the best vault track from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , and a repeat performance of “Maroon.” With the latter, she let us all know not only that she was indeed going to repeat songs in the final stretch of the (first) American leg of The Eras Tour, but also that she was going to hit the deeper-cut fan favorites once again. — Jones

8. August 4 in Los Angeles, California: “Our Song” and “You Are in Love”

I am on record as stating that I can’t hear “You Are in Love” without thinking about Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham making out, but that’s my problem. And there is probably no singular experience better than singing “Our Song” at the tippy top of your lungs with tens of thousands of fellow Swifties. — Princiotti

9. May 7 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” With Aaron Dessner and “Mine”

I know Taylor said not to, but I would have egged J-hn M-yer’s house if I’d been in Nashville for “WCS.” — Princiotti

10. July 28 in Santa Clara, California: “Right Where You Left Me” and “Castles Crumbling”

It’s the much-anticipated live debut of “Right Where You Left Me” for me. This was also the night that Haim did “No Body, No Crime” in the “Bejeweled” music video dresses. Man, I want to be in Haim. — Princiotti

11. July 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio: “Ivy” With Aaron Dessner, “I Miss You, I’m Sorry” With Gracie Abrams, and “Call It What You Want”

Her only three-song acoustic set (because of severe weather in Cincinnati that caused Gracie Abrams’s opening set to be canceled), the highlight of this night was “Ivy,” my favorite deep cut from Evermore . “Call It What You Want” was lovely on piano, but I can’t help but compare her rather emotionless delivery to the way we saw her sing it to her ex Joe Alwyn in the 2020 Miss Americana documentary. — Jones

12. May 6 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Out of the Woods” and “Fifteen”

*Seventy thousand scream the “Out of the Woods” bridge in unison* — Princiotti

13. May 5 in Nashville, Tennessee: “Sparks Fly” and “Teardrops on My Guitar”

Two elite early sing-alongs worth dropping everything now for. There are plenty of OG Swifties in Nashville, and they must have been levitating. — Princiotti

14. August 8 in Los Angeles, California: “I Know Places” and “King of My Heart”

The penultimate night at SoFi Stadium was delivering VOCALS. First it was “I Know Places,” the most underrated song on 1989 , where each chorus came in stronger than the last. Then, at the piano, Swift played the excellent “King of My Heart” from Reputation , and all at once it was so much more than enough. —Princiotti

15. July 22 in Seattle, Washington: “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” and “Everything Has Changed”

One of the most fun songs on Reputation alongside a Red song made for acoustic sing-alongs already makes for a strong pairing, but what made this surprise set extra memorable was the elongated cackle Swift let out in the spoken-word section of “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” when she faux forgives her adversaries. She can’t even say it with a straight face! Unhinged. Excellent. — Princiotti

16. July 15 in Denver, Colorado: “Starlight” and “Back to December”

We all knew “Back to December” was coming sometime after the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , and this rendition was worth waiting for. The way the Denver crowd went wild when their light-up bracelets turned from blue to purple and they realized what was coming was electric. — Jones

17. April 14 in Tampa, Florida: “The Great War” With Aaron Dessner and “You’re on Your Own, Kid”

I still can’t believe she left “You’re on Your Own, Kid” off the main set list—how loud would the line “so make the friendship bracelets” be every night? — Jones

18. June 30 in Cincinnati, Ohio: “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” and “Evermore”

I remember initially being disappointed that she chose to perform “Evermore” without Justin Vernon. Boy, was I wrong. Nearly six weeks later, I’m still seeking out her solo piano performance from Cincinnati because her vocals on both Vernon’s verse and the bridge are perfection. — Jones

19. April 15 in Tampa, Florida: “Mad Woman” With Aaron Dessner and “Mean”

And a liar! And pathetic!!!! — Princiotti

20. August 7 in Los Angeles, California: “Dress” and “Exile”

Even though this solo live version of “Exile” was unique and what Swift did with the bridge was very cool, I’ll admit I missed Justin Vernon here. — Jones

21. March 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada: “Our Song” and “Snow on the Beach”

What a weird but fucking beautiful pairing. — Jones

22. July 8 in Kansas City, Missouri: “Last Kiss” and “Dorothea”

“Dorothea” is so overlooked and such a wonderful, sweet song. Even though it’s wistful, it feels like a warm hug, which is good because this live version of “Last Kiss” was DEVASTATING—even the two vocal trip-ups, which somehow made it more special. — Princiotti

23. June 17 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: “Seven” With Aaron Dessner and “The Story of Us”

She absolutely wasn’t going to miss the chance to sing the lyric “with Pennsylvania under me” while in her home state. And that’s a nice line, but “love you to the moon and to Saturn” is the one I might get tattooed on my arm when this tour is over. — Jones

24. June 4 in Chicago, Illinois: “Hits Different” and “The Moment I Knew”

I don’t know why Swift was surprised the Soldier Field crowd knew every word to “Hits Different.” She should have known that even though she hid that track away on a CD-only version of Midnights sold at Target, we’d been streaming bootleg versions for months. — Jones

25. March 17 in Glendale, Arizona: “Mirrorball” and “Tim McGraw”

Back on the opening night of the tour, Taylor debuted the first surprise song set with “Mirrorball,” telling the crowd the song was her more eloquent way of saying, “I love you and want your attention all the time.” Well, she got it. — Jones

26. April 29 in Atlanta, Georgia: “High Infidelity” and “Gorgeous”

Do you really want to know where I was April 29? Watching TikTok feeds with extreme jealousy toward those who saw this surprise set live. This one was tasteful. — Princiotti

27. May 21 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “I Think He Knows” and “Red”

Two great songs, and extra memorable for the fact that Swift wound up playing “Red” on the guitar because her piano was so waterlogged from the torrential downpour that soaked it the night before that it started playing itself. — Princiotti

28. May 27 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Holy Ground” and “False God”

“Holy Ground” has always been a perfect stadium filler and was a cool pairing with “False God,” one of Swift’s most idiosyncratic songs. I got to see this one live, and the funniest part was that she didn’t introduce “False God” at all . Really, though, what was she going to say? Tonight I thought I’d play one of my horniest songs. Please enjoy! — Princiotti

29. July 14 in Denver, Colorado: “Picture to Burn” and “Timeless”

From my years of covering the Broncos, I’ve felt Denver’s football stadium shake on dozens of occasions, but I’ve never felt it bounce quite like it did during “Picture to Burn.” And the live debut of “Timeless,” a vault track from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , was delightful—and truly a surprise song because so many of us with Denver Night 1 tickets clowned ourselves into believing that Hayley Williams would show up to do “Castles Crumbling” the night after Paramore played in Denver. — Jones

30. April 30 in Atlanta, Georgia: “I Bet You Think About Me” and “How You Get the Girl”

I’m just thankful we got to hear her sing the line “Oh my God, she’s insane” live. — Jones

31. May 12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Gold Rush” and “Come Back … Be Here”

The verbal precision of “Gold Rush” was a cool contrast with the belting she did on “Come Back … Be Here.” — Princiotti

32. March 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada: “Cowboy Like Me” With Marcus Mumford and “White Horse”

The first surprise guest of the tour and a very horsey set. Ken approved. — Princiotti

33. June 2 in Chicago, Illinois: “I Wish You Would” and “The Lakes”

I loved this set, even though I doubt it was at the top of many wish lists. “We’re a crooked love in a straight line down” is such an evocative line in “I Wish You Would.” And real ones know the bonus tracks on Folklore and Evermore are exceptional. — Princiotti

34. March 18 in Glendale, Arizona: “State of Grace” and “This Is Me Trying”

The Glendale sets are from such a simpler time, back before we analyzed what songs were left and what she might repeat, back when we could just enjoy an epic lyric like “They told me all of my cages were mental / So I got wasted like all my potential.” — Jones

35. April 2 in Arlington, Texas: “Jump Then Fall” and “The Lucky One”

“This is about how horrible being famous is,” Swift, arguably the most famous singer in the world right now, said with a smirk as she introduced “The Lucky One” on piano. — Jones

36. April 13 in Tampa, Florida: “Speak Now” and “Treacherous”

In hindsight, it seems odd that she chose to perform the titular track for Speak Now a month before she announced the impending release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) . — Jones

37. May 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Forever & Always” and “This Love”

When Lena Dunham requests “Forever & Always” for her birthday, you absolutely have to play it. Those are the rules. — Jones

38. May 28 in East Rutherford, New Jersey: “Welcome to New York” and “Clean”

Genuinely good bit on Taylor’s part to wait until the last show in East Rutherford to pull out “Welcome to New York.” — Princiotti

39. May 14 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: “Hey Stephen” and “The Best Day”

This show was on Mother’s Day, so of course she was going to perform “The Best Day,” which is in essence a love letter to her mother, Andrea. It’s a sweet song, perfect for an acoustic performance, and it surely hit all the millennial moms in the audience right in the feels. — Jones

40. June 9 in Detroit, Michigan: “Haunted” and “I Almost Do”

“Haunted” is such a huge instrumental song on the studio album(s), and yet it’s somehow more, well, haunting when it’s just Swift and a guitar. — Jones

41. June 10 in Detroit, Michigan: “All You Had to Do Was Stay” and “Breathe”

The high “stays” acoustic were very cool. — Princiotti

42. June 16 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: “Mr. Perfectly Fine” and “The Last Time”

To quote Sophie Turner, “MPF” is not not a bop. — Princiotti

43. June 23 in Minneapolis, Minnesota: “Paper Rings” and “If This Was a Movie”

“Paper Rings” deserved a better partner. — Jones

44. June 3 in Chicago, Illinois: “You All Over Me” With Maren Morris and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”

Remember that whole Matty Healy thing? It all fizzled out right around the time of her Chicago dates, which might help explain why she picked a song with the lyric “What if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life?” — Jones

45. May 20 in Foxborough, Massachusetts: “Question …?” and “Invisible”

I remember two things about this set: (1) the epic downpour in Foxborough and (2) the way Swift introduced the acoustic set, telling the crowd, “I’ve just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, and thank you for being a part of that. And it’s not just the tour, so I feel like my life finally feels like it makes sense. So I thought I’d play this song that brings me a lot of happy memories.” This was, of course, post-Joe and possibly mid-Matty, whatever that means. — Jones

46. July 7 in Kansas City, Missouri: “Never Grow Up” and “When Emma Falls in Love”

I cannot listen to “Never Grow Up” without crying, so I was honestly relieved when this one came off the big board a week before I saw The Eras Tour live. Thoughts and prayers to all the moms who were at Arrowhead that night with their children; I would not have survived it. — Jones

47. July 29 in Santa Clara, California: “Stay Stay Stay” and “All of the Girls You Loved Before”

Did you hear they named it Swiftie Clara? — Princiotti

48. April 28 in Atlanta, Georgia: “The Other Side of the Door” and “Coney Island”

Even without her cowriters from the National, “Coney Island” was surely a thrill for the Sad Dad corner of the Taylor Swift fandom. — Jones

49. March 31 in Arlington, Texas: “Sad Beautiful Tragic” and “Ours”

If you have to ask, “I’m not sure if you guys love this one or not, or if you just like it or if you’re obsessed with it,” before playing a song, as she did with “Sad Beautiful Tragic,” maybe that’s a sign that it’s not a dream surprise song. — Jones

50. July 23 in Seattle, Washington: “Message in a Bottle” and “Tied Together With a Smile”

Sure, “Message in a Bottle” is a bop, but anyone who says they had either of these picks on their surprise song big board in late July is lying. — Jones

51. April 22 in Houston, Texas: “A Place in This World” and “Today Was a Fairytale”

I can’t make a case that this acoustic set was elite, but I just want to say that I ride for “Today Was a Fairytale.” — Princiotti

52. April 23 in Houston, Texas: “Begin Again” and “Cold As You”

I mean, it’s fine. — Jones

53. April 21 in Houston, Texas: “Wonderland” and “You’re Not Sorry”

Taylor, did Houston do something? It’s not that these surprise sets weren’t enjoyable—they all were—I just don’t know how many fans had “Wonderland,” a 1989 bonus track, paired with this hurting early cut from Fearless on their wish lists. — Princiotti

Swifties Predicted The 4 New Surprise Songs In Disney+'s Eras Tour

Real ones knew.

The Eras Tour just got its biggest update ever with an extended version of Taylor Swift’s career-spanning concert now streaming on Disney+. The new cut of the movie features several new song additions that were not in the 2023 theatrical release , including four new surprise songs. Well, Swift may refer to her song-shifting acoustic set as “surprise songs ,” but when it came to this Disney+ drop, true fans already knew exactly which four tracks were going to be added.

Swift made sure to give her fans who’ve already seen The Eras Tour film a reason to tune into its streaming debut on Disney+ on March 14 . Prior to its release, she confirmed that the new version would include footage of her performing “Cardigan,” which had been cut from the previous movie , along with an additional four surprise songs from her ever-changing acoustic sets. The theatrical version of The Eras Tour showed Swift performing “Our Song” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” in the surprise songs slot, and because of that, Swifties were immediately able to predict what these four new songs would be. And they were exactly right.

When The Eras Tour debuted on Disney+, these four added songs were revealed to be “I Can See You,” “You Are in Love,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” and “Maroon.” The reason these choices were not a shock to fans is because they were performed in Los Angeles during Swift’s Aug. 3-5 concerts, when professional cameras were spotted filming at the shows.

Disney+'s version of Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' movie includes four new surprise songs.

Since eagle-eyed fans already knew that all of the footage shown in the earlier Eras Tour movie was from Swift’s three concerts in Los Angeles, it was a given that her four added surprise songs would be the four acoustic performances she did not include in the initial film.

And of course, it’s not really the first time superfans have seen Swift perform these songs. Videos of Swift’s surprise acoustic sets tend to go viral each night of her Eras Tour, so true Swifties are already very well acquainted with the frenzy that erupted when she first sang “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” or with the emotions the took over the fandom during her “Maroon” live performance.

Which Songs Have Been Added to ’Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)' on Disney+?

Our wildest dreams came true — these songs are back on the setlist where they belong.

The Big Picture

  • Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has become the highest-grossing concert film of all time.
  • Disney+'s extended edition of the concert film adds back four beloved songs that were cut from the theatrical version, plus four other brand new songs.
  • The Eras Tour is divided into sections representing Swift's albums, highlighting her evolution as a musician, and is a testament to the power of live music and communal bonds.

Taylor Swift isn't the problem, she's a one-woman juggernaut. At this point, one might argue she owns the world, and we're just living in it. It's a deserved triumph. The singer-songwriter titan has spent 17 years forging a dynamic, genre-defying career and breaking practically every music record imaginable. Now Swift has "saved" Hollywood with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , a concert film extravaganza documenting her similarly record-breaking and ongoing tour. During its theatrical run, The Eras Tour film earned over $249 million worldwide , positioning Swift's creative apotheosis as the highest-grossing concert film of all time as well as the first concert tour to reach $1 billion in revenue .

Fans have been able to rent The Eras Tour on various streaming platforms since December. But on March 14, almost a year after Swift kicked off the Eras Tour, she celebrates by dropping an extended, personalized edition of The Eras Tour . Streaming exclusively on Disney+, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is named after her album re-recordings project , all of which bear the parenthetical subtitle "Taylor's Version." The tour seamlessly sweeps the audience through Swift's history with costumes and stage design to match , but there are only so many songs even an indomitable force like Taylor Swift can belt in one night . When The Eras Tour feature film hit theaters, it clocked in at 2 hours and 48 minutes instead of the live concert's standard 3 hours. That meant that some songs on the setlist found themselves "leaving out the side door"— aka, Swift cut them from the film. However, The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version ) adds back four beloved songs and includes an additional four special performances .

How Is Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Set Up?

Rather than play random ditties in an unharmonious mish-mash, self-described mastermind Taylor Swift meticulously divides The Eras Tour into designated sections representing 9 of her 10 original albums. (Her self-titled debut is the only one without a presence.) To spice things up, Swift sings two acoustic "Surprise Songs" that change at each performance . The Eras Tour opens with selections from Lover , Swift's sky blue-toned, sequin-drenched seventh album. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled Swift's planned Lover Fest tour, so kicking things off with the dreamy Lover is a lovely way to set things right. After a condensed version of "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince," Swift slides straight into "Cruel Summer," the headbanger that gained TikTok traction this year, followed by lively renditions of "The Man" and "You Need to Calm Down."

The pensive, self-reflective tunes "Lover" and "The Archer" close this era, which leaves 12 of the album's 18 songs on the metaphorical cutting room floor. Swift dips into Lover 's B-sides during her Surprise Song sessions, like the toe-tapping "I Think He Knows" and the vulnerable "Cornelia Street." Surprisingly, given its popularity among Swift's fanbase, "The Archer" was the first song from the live shows that wasn't included in The Eras Tour 's theatrical version. To the relief of many who were frozen in grief over this loss a la "Right Where You Left Me," The Eras Tour extended edition reintegrates "The Archer" in all its deserved high-definition glory.

Swift then jumps back in time to 2008's Fearless , her second album and the one that earned the young musician her first of three Album of the Year Grammys . At three songs, the Fearless section is notably shorter, but Swift has been performing songs from her breakthrough album for most of her career. As such, Fearless ' biggest three hits enjoy the spotlight : the title track, "You Belong With Me," and " Love Story ."

Which Taylor Swift Songs Are Included in ‘The Eras Tour’ Movie?

folklore might have won awards and acclaim, but evermore , its spiritual sister album and the second of Taylor Swift's two 2020 albums, is just as piercingly lyrical and sonically somber. For The Eras Tour concert film, the lead single "Willow" opens the autumnal-tinged evermore era. Afterward, Swift favors fan favorites like "Champagne Problems," "Tolerate It," and "Marjorie," the latter a love letter Swift dedicated to her late grandmother. Sadly for evermore devotees (raises hand), Swift cut her delicious revenge thriller "No Body No Crime" from The Eras Tour documentary. "No Body No Crime," which Swift performed with the Haim sisters, is the only song that remains lost to the ether . Although not included in the film, evermore tracks were frequent highlights of the Surprise Songs. Swift serenaded fans with one-off performances of "Gold Rush," "Dorothea," "Ivy," and "Cowboy Like Me," the latter accompanied by Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons.

The unforgiving, black-clad, snake-studded Reputation era proceeds a Speak Now interlude and four songs from Red . Like her pop-heavy albums, the Reputation section focuses on radio singles like "Look What You Made Me Do" and the TikTok anthem "Don't Blame Me." ("Getaway Car" and "Gorgeous" were relegated to the Surprise Songs category.) Speak Now is the least represented album besides her debut, featuring only her epic ballad "Enchanted." Swift added the track "Long Live" after her rerecorded Speak Now (Taylor's Version ) dropped in July and includes her live performance of the song in the streaming edition after removing it from the theatrical feature .

We Have Margaret Qualley's 'Stars at Noon' to Thank for Taylor Swift’s “Midnights”

Red follows the same prioritization of singles as Reputation and Fearless , those songs that dominated the 2010s radio scene ("22," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and "I Knew You Were Trouble.") In contrast, "All Too Well," which was never released as a single, took on a life of its own thanks to Swift's resonant lyrics and haunting melancholy reflection . For Red (Taylor's Version) , she released an extended 10-minute version. Swift performs all 10 of those minutes on the guitar, a solo figure in shimmering red, without missing a beat.

With 'The Eras Tour,' Taylor Swift Is a Genre of Her Own

Since folklore made Swift the first woman artist to win three Album of the Year Grammys, it's no surprise this folksy cottagecore-influenced era boasts seven songs, a good chunk of the Eras Tour's runtime. Most are B-sides highlighting Swift's heavy lyricism and folklore 's overlapping narratives. Another surprise cut from The Eras Tour film, however, is "Cardigan," a trademark track that's now been restored to Disney+'s The Eras Tour: Taylor's Version . Her second Album of the Year winner, 1989 , concentrates on the radio-dominating and fan-pleasing singles "Blank Space," "Bad Blood," and "Style." When Swift played "Out of the Woods" and "Clean" as Surprise Songs, it induced some friendly jealousy from everyone not at those performances. The streaming version integrates the sidelined "Wildest Dreams."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, with Midnights being her latest original release and cementing Swift as the only musician in history to ever win four Album of the Year Grammys, Swift performs half the album. You'll hear the soaring ever-present "Anti-Hero" and see choreography straight from a Bob Fosse musical for "Vigilante Shit." The Eras Tour film's main Surprise Songs, meanwhile, are a clever mash-up: the throwback "Our Song" from her debut album followed by Midnights ' "You're On Your Own, Kid." For The Eras Tour: Taylor's Version , the Surprise Song set is where it's at. Swift performs acoustic takes of "Maroon," " Death by a Thousand Cuts ," "I Can See You," and "You Are in Love." Make sure to stick around after the main show for these.

Inventing a new way to praise Taylor Swift or the Eras Tour is nigh impossible at this point . The level of strategic production, the intimate accessibility courtesy of director Sam Wrench , and the extraordinary artistry on display are something to stand in awe of. Beyond Swift's magnetic presence as a versatile performer and how the breadth of her material demonstrates the evolution of her musicianship, the Eras Tour is a story about the power of communal bonds. Sharing live music humanizes us, and Taylor Swift's ear for profound melodies has made her one of modern entertainment's giants . Swift is an astute woman and a master storyteller and has keenly inhabited and reinterpreted multiple genres for nearly 20 years. If those feats weren't enough, she's spent her summer performing 44 songs non-stop for 3 hours. The Eras Tour is a towering achievement. Our favorite songs (and then some) making it to our home TV screens after all is just a bonus.

9 Ways Watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour On Disney+ Will Be Different From Theaters

The 10 best kung fu movie stars of all time, rings of power season 2 release date confirmed.

  • "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie on Disney+ features surprise songs like 'Cardigan' and 'Maroon' from new album Midnights."
  • "Viewers can speculate on potential bonus songs like 'I Can See You' and 'Death By A Thousand Cuts' in the streamed concert movie."
  • "Possible surprises in the Taylor's Version of the movie could include songs from Reputation or The Tortured Poets Department."

Disney+'s release of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is teasing a special twist in connection to the concert movie's "surprise" songs. Officially subtitled (Taylor's Version) to play off of the superstar's recent history of re-recording and re-releasing her own versions of past albums, The Eras Tour movie is coming to streaming a day earlier than planned. Aside from the record-breaking world tour, which is still in its international leg, the theatrical release brought in over $260 million at the box office. About four months after the theatrical release, it was announced that Disney won the streaming rights.

That said, it wouldn't be a Taylor Swift announcement without a few surprises. The concert movie was filmed during Swift's LA-based shows from August 2023, and though the tour had a setlist that covered all nine of Taylor Swift's "Eras," each show has featured two surprise songs or a mashup of multiple songs. As part of the Disney+ release announcement, it was confirmed that "Cardigan," the lead single from 2020's Folklore , would be featured alongside four other surprise songs. While it's possible to narrow down the options, there could be an unexpected twist.

The Eras Tour Movie (Taylor's Version) Surprise Songs Have Been Revealed...Unless There's A Twist

To provide an update on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour 's release, Disney+ released a new (Taylor's Version) trailer. While "...Ready For It?" played over a montage of performances, the end of the trailer revealed that "Maroon" from Swift's tenth studio album, Midnights , would be another "surprise" song. That means Disney+ has revealed two of the two Eras Tour movie bonus songs , but based on what Swift used as surprise songs during the LA shows, it's possible to figure out the other three bonus songs (barring any major surprises).

The key to bonus song speculation is the fact that they are acoustic performances that happened during the filming of The Eras Tour songs , which narrows it down to "I Can See You," "Death By A Thousand Cuts," and "You Are In Love." Since filming occurred August 5-7th, the theatrical version of The Eras Tour movie was able to include bonus songs such as "You're On Your Own, Kid" and "Our Song." Unless there was secret filming during the other LA shows, those hoping to see songs like "Dress," "Exile," and "King Of My Heart" won't be so lucky.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is coming to Disney+, and the experience of watching the concert movie on streaming will be different than in theaters.

Why It's Unlikely (But Not Impossible) There Are Truly Surprising Songs On The Eras Tour Movie (Taylor's Version)

It's not out of the realm of possibility to think there is a massive reveal coming during Disney+'s The Eras Tour...

Granted, the fact that Disney and Swift are promoting The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) by highlighting surprises almost seems like they have some tricks up their sleeves. Swift has a long history of using secret messages and hidden details in social media posts to tease future announcements. It's not out of the realm of possibility to think there is a massive reveal coming during Disney+'s The Eras Tour , whether that means bonus songs that may have been filmed elsewhere or something even bigger.

Logistically, it would have been challenging to film other bonus acoustic songs, but if Swift truly wanted a new batch of "surprise" songs that couldn't be speculated on for (Taylor's Version) , this could be the way to go. Perhaps she plans to feature songs from Reputation, considering that's set to be her next re-released album. Even more shocking would be something tied to The Tortured Poets Department, Swift's album set to release in April. Either way, Disney+'s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie will be a worthwhile viewing experience made extra special by the additional songs.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) premieres on March 14th at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+.

The 14-time Grammy winner’s blockbuster flick first premiered in AMC theaters in October, upon which it instantly became the top-grossing concert film in history with more than $92.8 million after just one weekend. In December, Swift made an expanded cut of the project available to rent on-demand in celebration of her 34th birthday, featuring performances of “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live.”

The Disney+ edition will include even more previously unseen content. In addition to the four new acoustic songs (one of which is “Maroon,” according to a recent trailer ), the streaming version will feature footage of Swift performing her Folklore single “Cardigan” for the first time.

How Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Film Differs from the Concert, Including Which Songs Were Cut

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie is here and some fan-favorite songs didn't make the cut. Here's everything to know about the biggest differences from the concert

the eras tour movie surprise songs

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour is coming to a theater near you!

On Oct. 11, the “Blank Space” singer debuted her new concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film , at the official premiere in Los Angeles .

Featuring hits from her last 10 albums, the movie takes fans through Swift’s extensive music catalo g, from her debut album to her latest release, Midnights .

While the movie, which was filmed during the first three nights of her six-night stop in Los Angeles , gives Swifties a front-row seat to Swift’s successful Eras Tour, there are several differences from the actual concert.

Notably, due to the shorter runtime (the movie clocks in at 2 hours and 45 minutes, while the concert lasts more than 3 hours and 15 minutes), several songs were cut.

Ahead, here’s everything to know about how the concert film compares to the actual concert, including the key differences.

Warning: major spoilers ahead for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film .

Which songs were cut from the Eras Tour movie setlist?

Jeff Kravitz/TAS23/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management

With the film’s shorter runtime, the biggest question on fans’ minds is: which songs didn't make the cut? When compared to the Los Angeles setlist, the ones that don't seem to be included in the film are: "No Body, No Crime" with Haim, "Long Live," "Wildest Dreams,” The Archer" and "Cardigan."

Since the movie was filmed during the L.A. shows, other songs from the tour that don’t appear include "'Tis the Damn Season," “Nothing New” with Phoebe Bridgers and “Invisible String.” Additionally, the “Seven” interlude was scrapped.

Was anything else cut from the Eras Tour movie?

Kevin Mazur/Getty

Many fans have noted that the transitions between Swift's eras have also been shortened. In particular, it appears that the pianist intro for “Tolerate It” has been cut and the big intro to the Red era has been condensed.

That being said, other notable transitional moments still appear in the film, including the bewitching moment before “Willow” and Swift’s snake entrance before Reputation .

What were the surprise songs for the Eras Tour movie?

While filming the concert movie, Swift performed six different surprise songs during her acoustic setlist, including "I Can See You," "Maroon," "Our Song," "You Are in Love," "Death by a Thousand Cuts" and "You're on Your Own, Kid."

The two that made it in the film are "Our Song" (on guitar) and "You're on Your Own, Kid" (on piano) — fitting choices, as the first song includes her debut album on the setlist and the second song became the unsung anthem of the Eras Tour by inspiring fans to make friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties.

Were there any musical guests in the Eras Tour movie?

Kevin Mazur/TAS23/Getty

The entire concert is just Swift’s setlist and doesn’t include any of her opening acts such as Gracie Abrams, Gayle and Beabadoobee. Additionally, Swift’s performances of "No Body, No Crime" with Haim and “Nothing New” with Phoebe Bridgers are not featured.

Though Swift had several musical guests during her tour , including Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner and Ice Spice, none of them are included in the concert film either.

Is there an end-credits scene in the Eras Tour movie?

John Medina/Getty

Unlike Swift’s previous concert films — such as The 1989 World Tour Live released by Apple Music which featured various interviews and backstage footage — Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film doesn’t include any bonus material during the course of the movie.

However, the credits, which are set to “Long Live” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , does include some fun footage of fans and bloopers from the concert.

The stadium series kicked off last year in Glendale, Arizona, and quickly became a sensation . After making stops across the US, Mexico, South America , Japan, Australia, and Singapore , Swift will continue to perform throughout 2024 in Europe , plus a second North American leg scheduled for later this year.

On Thursday, Swift resumed The Eras Tour in France after a multi-week hiatus.

During that break, Swift released her 11th studio album, " The Tortured Poets Department " — so she adjusted the original 44-song set list to include brand new tracks, though other fan favorites (including " The Archer ," " The 1 ," and " Tolerate It ") were cut for time.

The updated show stretches for over three hours and includes 46 songs. The complete set list is cataloged below, in order of Swift's performance.

<p>"<a href="https://youtu.be/vOZFiX6hDXQ?si=y0elrov06f5PGa_s">Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?</a>" is almost certainly a reference to "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" — a 1962 play written by Edward Albee — which is itself a reference to the 1933 Disney song "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"</p><p><a href="https://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/4350/the-art-of-theater-no-4-edward-albee">According to Albee</a>, the play's title is another way of saying, "Who's afraid of living life without false illusions?" Because Woolf made her name writing stream-of-consciousness poetry, the threat she poses is not one of violence, but vulnerability.</p><p class="p2">Ablee's dark comedy follows a dysfunctional couple who delude themselves, each other, and the audience in order to cope with their feelings of frustration and inadequacy. While everything unfolds onstage, it's never quite clear who's lying about what.</p><p class="p2">Swift toys with the same concept throughout "The Tortured Poets Department," blurring the line between <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/3205837">truth and illusion</a>. Her emotional reactions seem to eclipse the literal events, especially in "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"</p><p class="p2">Swift uses dark, potentially violent image imagery — gallows, asylums, bullets — to communicate the pain of stardom and scandal. Swift has been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-career-in-photos">famous since she was a teenager</a> and the constant public scrutiny has taken its toll. By the end of the song, public perception and personal reality seem to overlap.</p><p class="p2">"You caged me and then you called me crazy," she sings in the outro. "I am what I am 'cause you trained me."</p><p class="p2">For those keeping track, that's the third cage reference in this album (following "But Daddy I Love Him" and '"Guilty as Sin?") and the seventh in her overall discography (following "<a href="https://youtu.be/0jTGzm-6cYE?si=sD04EJUz4zxTjbmb">I Know Places</a>," "<a href="https://youtu.be/iAv1Y1YIwm8?si=K4Lms0PVank9Pv8Y">So It Goes…</a>", "<a href="https://youtu.be/9bdLTPNrlEg?si=NrNnGUZRcWLKroPD">This Is Me Trying</a>," and "<a href="https://youtu.be/Odh9ddPUkEY?si=6WehRi8tE8C070kf">Midnight Rain</a>"). In the album's "Summary Poem," Swift also refers to herself as a "caged beast" who was driven to do "the most curious things."</p><p class="p2">But the song's many parallels don't end there. In the 1966 "Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?" film adaptation, Elizabeth Burton stars as the boozy, bitter wife ("I'm always drunk on my tears," Swift sings, "Isn't that what they all say?") opposite Richard Burton's sad-sack husband.</p><p class="p2">Swift previously referenced these actors and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-lyrics-literary-references-easter-eggs-details-2023-5">their torrid real-life love affair</a> in her "Reputation" single "<a href="https://youtu.be/wIft-t-MQuE?si=FsnvxgjJLF4ScqpC">…Ready For It?</a>" ("You can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor").</p>

<p>"Mastermind" is the penultimate song on the setlist. In the song, <a href="https://www.insider.com/taylor-swift-midnights-lyrics-easter-eggs-2022-10">Swift describes herself as a "Machiavellian" genius and compulsive planner</a>.</p><p>During her performance of the song, the stage is lit up in black-and-white squares, resembling a chessboard. During the second verse, her dancers stand in a specific formation, only moving forward when Swift gestures to them like a puppeteer.</p>

"Mastermind"

In the chorus of "Mastermind," Swift seems to serenade her longtime fans: "What if I told you I'm a mastermind? / And now you're mine."

The song also references Swift's penchant for Easter eggs and her keen business acumen, which has allowed her to build a billion-dollar empire .

"I'm sick of women not being able to say that they have strategic business minds — because male artists are allowed to," Swift told Rolling Stone in 2019. "And so I'm sick and tired of having to pretend like I don't mastermind my own business."

<p>Swift closes the elaborate show with "Karma," a song that mocks her enemies and salutes her own longevity: "Ask me what I learned from all those years / Ask me what I earned from all those tears / Ask me why so many fade, but I'm still here."</p>

With Eras Tour changes, these songs landed on Taylor Swift's chopping block

PARIS, France — Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye to six songs on the Eras Tour .

Taylor Swift made some changes to her mammoth Eras Tour show in La Défense Arena to usher in her 11th studio album "The Tortured Poets Department."

The new era introduced seven additional songs as well as the track "loml" during the surprise portion of the show. With the introductions meant the downfall for six songs from last year's set list.

The "Fearless," "Red," "Reputation," "1989" and "Midnights" sets remained intact throughout the performance. Swift gave a preview of the songs cut from her show in the first release of her Eras Tour movie but unlike in the film "Cardigan" and "Wildest Dreams" survived the chopping block.

The following tracks were cut in the new set list:

Photos from Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Paris show reveal new Tortured Poets Department outfits

Taylor Swift singing passionately into a microphone, in a white dress shaking her head

Taylor Swift's two-year world tour has resumed after the release of her new album Tortured Poets Department, with the European leg kicking off in Paris.

Swift's Eras Tour began in March last year, with dozens and dozens of shows since then.

Given it has been going on for so long, fans have compiled comprehensive information about set list and costumes for the tour.

There are slight variations at her shows, with some slots in her set list for what fans have dubbed "surprise songs".

And she's worn various iterations of the same costume.

However, generally speaking, the shows have been pretty much the same each time.

But, because this was her first show since Tortured Poets Department, there was much speculation about how different it would be from previous shows .

So there was a lot of focus on Thursday night's show in the La Defense Arena in the French capital.

New outfits

Swift wore a white dress with lyrics to Tortured Poets Department songs on it, with the structured fabric looking like pages of paper.

She incorporated an on-stage costume change into her act.

Swift took off the white dress to reveal a sparkly black two-piece, throwing a gold jacket over the top.

We'd not seen that on stage before.

But there were also changes to regular costumes — including the colours in the Lover bodysuit and the slogan on the T-shirt she wears while singing the song 22.

Previous iterations of that shirt had said "WHO'S TAYLOR SWIFT ANYWAY? EW." and "WE ARE NEVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER LIKE EVER".

New set list

We didn't have an ABC reporter on the ground in Paris to compare the set list to her Australian shows.

So for news on this front we went to a social media account run by an anonymous Taylor Swift fan for updates.

That may sound fraught, but @tswifterastour has become the authoritative — albeit unofficial — voice on all things Eras Tour, with more than half a million followers. ( Cosmopolitan did a great interview with the person behind this account, if you're interested .)

It's the account behind that "seemingly ranch" tweet that went viral last year, if that means anything to you.

Then we cross-referenced that with a report from the BBC .

What new songs are on the Eras Tour set list?

Here are the new songs that Swift performed in Paris on Thursday night:

  • But Daddy I Love Him
  • So High School
  • Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

What songs were cut?

Here are the songs that used to feature on the set list but weren't played by Swift:

  • The Archer (Lover)
  • Long Live (Speak Now)
  • The 1 (Folklore)
  • The last great American dynasty (Folklore)
  • 'Tis the damn season (Evermore)
  • Tolerate it (Evermore)

And with new songs came new dance numbers and props.
