Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Announce 2023 Tour

is robert plant going on tour

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (Photo: David McClister; used with permission)

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have announced several dozen 2023 tour dates for the U.S. and Canada. The pair continue to support their 2021 collaborative album, Raise the Roof . Tickets for the new shows go on sale here on Feb. 3, following several presale events. See the complete itinerary below.

Having won six Grammy awards—including Album and Record of the Year—for their 2007 collaboration, Raising Sand , Plant and Krauss’ followup album was released on Rounder Records and has since been nominated for three Grammy Awards including Best Americana album.

The album features 12 new recordings of songs originally recorded by Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, the Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Geeshie Wiley, Bert Jansch and others.

Like its predecessor, which generated platinum sales, Raise the Roof was produced by T Bone Burnett, who worked with former Led Zeppelin frontman Plant and popular Americana vocalist Krauss, accompanied by drummer Jay Bellerose, guitarists Marc Ribot, David Hidalgo, Bill Frisell and Buddy Miller, bassists Dennis Crouch and Viktor Krauss, along with pedal steel guitarist Russ Pahl, among others.

Plant told Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe about the decision to record mostly covers.

“It gives us the opportunity to put our own personality into somebody else’s work,” he says, “which in places it’s quite profound and coming from another time when songwriting and people’s stories and statements and concerns were from a totally different time with a different onus. And I think that gives us a opportunity not to crush the original idea, but to just take it into another place, which is our goal. And it’s been remarkable really. We did exchange music for such a long time but then scuttled on to the next project. And then, slowly but surely, we have this thing where we can explore the less trodden pathways, I think of these songs.”

Krauss adds, “I’m not a songwriter. So my whole life is searching out songs and songwriters and interpreting another person’s story. So getting to hear more wonderful people and tell their story from something of a whole other world to me is really magical.”

Watch their interview with Apple Music 1 here .

Other highlights include a Plant-Burnett original, “High and Lonesome,” and the classic “Can’t Let Go,” written by Randy Weeks and first recorded by Lucinda Williams.

The first release, “Can’t Let Go,” spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Americana radio charts.

Adds Plant, “You hear something and you go, ‘Man, listen to that song, we got to sing that song!’ It’s a vacation, really—the perfect place to go that you least expected to find.”

On Nov. 19, the pair presented a global livestream. Backed by an all-star band in Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios, they debuted a selection of songs from Raise the Roof exclusively for audiences on YouTube.

In addition to winning all six Grammy Awards for which it was nominated, 2007’s  Raising Sand also earned a CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year, plus Album of the Year and Duo/Group of the Year accolades from the Americana Music Honors and Awards.

If this new song is an indication of the the rest of the lp, it’s a winner. There needs to be a live LP from the first tour.

Henry

I love Alison Krauss and have seen her live twice, but I really don’t care for her and Robert Plant singing together. His voice was great when in Zepplin, but IMO the two together, not a fit. Also the music sounds like it is a computer. I think a reason they have been popular together is because all the Zepplin fans want to hear something from Plant and Krauss would sound good singing a cookbook. Just my opinion.

Brad

The music sounds like a computer? Ignorant comment.

Dazepp

I agree . Monotonous is the word I think. The Zep T shirts get in line to be rewarded with an Art lesson rather than entertainment. Then again, I suppose that suffering is a type of delight to some.

v2787

I agree with you about Krauss. Her voice is angelic. Plant, on the other hand, never did it for me. Ever. Like Neil Young, I find his voice grating and shrill. I don’t care for his singing, and so I’ll just step away from the Plant/Krauss pairing. Good luck to them, but I’m not buying their music.

Yvette

Harsh Critique… I Enjoy the Earlier Musical Talents of each Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and the Pairing of Plant and Krauss as a Duet Team. I Greatly Enjoy their Vocal Blending in Performing Songs of the Past.. The Music Awards for their last (2) Albums Speak to their Fan Base and Musical Success…

Venue was great. Robert Plant and Alison Kraus were absolutely magical. What an amazing evening. I had a flight to the Carolina's.. Just to see this performance.. Previously purchased second row tickets. AMAZING... How beautiful the voice collaboration of the two.. Did not want the night to end.. Can not wait until the next adventure...

I was lucky enough to see Robert Plant in bend Oregon on 10-3-19. It was one of the best concerts that I have ever been to. The venue is small and it was outside next to a river. My seats were 4 rows from the stage so I could see and hear him perfectly. What a night and what a performer. He still is as charming as ever and his voice is still as clear and a joy to listen to. He played an array of Zeppelin songs as well as carry fire songs too. I traveled 12 hours by car to attend this concert and it was well worth it

The day started off rough with rain all day. Then all the tickets had to be picked up at will call window which created a mess. After standing in the rain for 2 hours to get in, it didn’t matter - Robert Plant tore the venue up with his great singing and even did a lot of Led Zeppelin songs! What a fabulous band he had accompanying him! Awesome singer & band!

Wolves Executive Thanks Plant for Creating the Track

“Having Robert as a member of the old gold pack is incredibly special,” said Wolves marketing executive Russell Jones in a statement. “[A]nd having now used ‘Kashmir’ for more than a year at Molineux, Robert was keen to help us move the sound on by mixing two of Led Zeppelin’s most iconic tracks.”

Jones added, “We’d like to thank both Robert and Gavin for their support and I hope that the new mix will get the stadium rocking ahead of the last game of the season.”

Kristi Noem rejects ‘liberal plant’ claim on dog-killing tale: ‘Buck stops with me’

Sympathetic interviewer suggests rogue editor was responsible for career-torpedoing story in new book

Asked if a story about killing a dog and a goat as well as a false claim to have met Kim Jong-un could have been put in her book by an editor acting as “a liberal plant”, the South Dakota governor and Republican vice-presidential hopeful Kristi Noem seemed to realise such a claim would be too outlandish even for her.

“The buck always stops with me,” Noem told Newsmax. “I take my own full responsibility. I wrote this book.”

No Going Back was published in the US on Tuesday. But for more than a week it has been at the centre of a political firestorm fueled by a Guardian report of its startling story of how Noem says she shot dead Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer she deemed “untrainable”, and an unnamed goat Noem said menaced her children.

Noem has defended the story as an example of how she is willing to do unpleasant things in life and politics.

But the resulting revulsion has seemingly ended any hope of Noem being named running mate to Donald Trump, the former president and presumptive Republican nominee in November.

Noem’s claim to have met Kim, the North Korean dictator, unravelled amid reporting by the Dakota Scout . Noem’s publisher, Center Street, said it would remove the passage from future editions.

Amid a media tour in which Noem was challenged on CBS about an apparent threat to kill Joe Biden’s dog , the governor sought friendlier turf at Newsmax. Eric Bolling, a former Fox News host, duly attempted to give her a way to climb off her hurtling train of bad PR.

Bolling said : “You don’t write the whole book at once, you write a chapter or two, you send it to the editors and they edit. They read it, they add, they subtract.

“And here’s my question: the editor, was she possibly a plant? A liberal plant? Because I’m not sure either one of these stories, this dog story, the North Korea story, seems like the Kristi Noem I know.”

Noem said: “The buck always stops with me. I take my own full responsibility. I wrote this book and then I take the responsibility for what’s in it.”

But revelations continue. Axios reported that Noem had angled to become president of the National Rifle Association. Worse for Noem, though, was a report in which Politico said she tried to include the story of Cricket’s trip to the gravel pit in Not My First Rodeo, a book published in 2022.

Citing two sources, the site said Noem “wanted the story in because it showed a decisive person who was unwilling to be bound by namby-pamby niceties”.

But “agents, editors, publicists at Hachette … and a ghostwriter” reportedly “saw it as a bad-taste anecdote that would hurt her brand” and the tale was cut.

Regarding the claim to have met Kim, Noem’s spokesperson has said it was the result of a mistaken melding of world leaders’ names.

On the page, Noem calls Kim a “little tyrant”, of a kind she claims to have been used to staring down, having “been a children’s pastor”. Politico pointed to the real Kim’s physical heft, as “the 300lb despot with the gravity-defying haircut”.

On Tuesday, Noem was back on Newsmax . Things did not go well.

“The book’s called No Going Back,” her host, Rob Finnerty, said, adding part of its subtitle, “The Truth on What’s Wrong With Politics”.

“And I think part of … what’s wrong with politics today is that politicians aren’t honest with the American people. So, Governor, if you asked me a month ago who’s at the top of the list to run with Donald Trump, I would have said your name. If he asked me that same question this morning, I don’t even think you’re on the list.”

Noem said: “Really?”

Finnerty said: “Yes, really … and it’s because of things that have come out in this book, like your claims that you met Kim Jong-un.”

Noem, who complained about being interrupted on CBS, interrupted.

“I’ve been in the DMZ,” she said, referring to the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea.

Finnerty pressed on: “So here’s the quote from the book. You say, ‘I remember when I met North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, I’m sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants.’

“Governor, that never happened.”

Noem said: “What I have said in the book is that when I became aware of the content that we had it changed and that’s the way that it is. I’m not going to talk about my conversations with world leaders.”

She also claimed “a typical politician wouldn’t be [as] honest” as she had been about her error.

Finnerty said: “Governor, I’m not asking you about the details of this alleged meeting. I’m asking if the meeting actually happened. I don’t think it did. I think if it did, you’d be able to confirm for me that yes, it did.”

Noem said: “I’m not going to talk about this.”

Finnerty said: “You’re gonna continue to get asked this question.”

Noem said, “I don’t think so”, then pivoted to attacking Biden over his own questionable claims .

Finnerty said, “Governor, that’s a very good point. And I’m not deliberately trying to be adversarial … Donald Trump winning is very important. And I think that whoever he chooses to be his running mate, and again, I think at one point you were at the top of that list, like, you’re gonna get questions a lot more difficult than that.”

Things went no better on Fox Business.

Asked by Stuart Varney if she thought she was “in line” to be Trump’s running mate, Noem said she spoke to the former president “all the time”. Asked repeatedly if “the dog story” was discussed, she said: “Enough, Stuart. This interview is ridiculous which you are doing right now, so you need to stop.”

Varney stopped, saying Noem was out of time.

“Oh, well, of course we are,” Noem said.
