Ballpark Tours 2024 -Two Trips … From Hall of Famers to Bleacher Bums

Ballpark Tours

Mauer to the Hall – A St. Paul Grand Slam

Inductions Weekend at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown brings together revelry and reverence.  It’s like a combination of Mardi Gras and High Mass for baseball fans.  This year, for good reason, Ballpark Tours will be there.  And, we invite you to join us.

Think about the joy of a major-league Grand Slam – a four-base hit with four runs plated. So, how about a St. Paul Grand Slam? St. Paul is about to complete a historic four-bagger in Cooperstown.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame already has honored a trio of St. Paulites (who all spent time with the Twins): Dave Winfield (inducted in 2001), Paul Molitor (2004) and Jack Morris (2018). This year, a fourth St. Paulite will “touch the plate” at Cooperstown (July 21), with the induction of Joe Mauer , who spent his entire MLB career with the Twins.  Joining Mauer as 2024 BBHOF inductees are Adrian Beltre , Todd Helton and Jim Leyland .

ballpark tours

Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor and Joe Mauer are three of only 60 first-ballot inductees in the history of the Baseball Hall of Fame .

It’s only fitting that Ballpark Tours will make the trip to Cooperstown for this event – and that we will do it in style.  We’re calling this BPT Trek Cooperstown 2024 … Mauer to the Hall – a St. Paul Grand Slam.  The time to sign up is now.

Click here for a printable signup sheet.

Celebrating Minnesota Hall of Famers is, by the way, a Ballpark Tours’ tradition. We’ve brought Minnesota Nice and Minnesota Pride to Cooperstown to celebrate Harmon Killebrew , Rod Carew , Paul Molitor , Bert Blyleven , Jim Kaat and Tony Oliva .  We’ve delivered Killebrew’s home run seat, as well as seats and signage from the old Met Stadium to the Baseball Hall.  This year, with Joe Mauer’s strong Minnesota ties, it will be a special “Minnesota Event.” So, join us, on the truly home team , as Saint Paul notches a Hall of Fame Grand Slam.

Here are a few details about this year’s trip, which includes:

  • Roundtrip air travel to Syracuse;
  • Deluxe coach bus for the remainder of the trip;
  • Five nights (breakfast included) at the Utica Delta Marriot Hotel (a scenic 45-minute drive from Cooperstown);
  • A National Baseball Hall of Fame Membership;
  • The Hall of Fame Parade of Legends;
  • The Induction Ceremonies;
  • A commemorative (we like to think collectable) Ballpark Tours Cooperstown 2024 T-Shirt;
  • Plenty of the usual Ballpark Tours’ fun, friendship and hoopla! (We pride ourselves in hoopla.)

ballpark tours

You’ll have two days (Thursday and Friday) to explore the Hall of Fame before the weekend crowds arrive. Museum exhibits can change over time, but as of early February, the highlights listed on the Hall of Fame web page include the Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery; first floor display of Baseball Art; second Floor Grandstand Theatre and the “Generations of the Game” film; “Taking the Field: 19th Century” display; “Baseball Timeline 1900-1960”; “Sacred Ground” (third floor) – a tribute to ballparks past and present.; “Hank Aaron – Chasing the Dream” – a chronicle of Hank Aaron’s life; and much more.

You’ll also have time to enjoy picturesque Cooperstown, which offers everything from bats (and other baseball memorabilia) to boutiques and from beverages (you know what kind we mean) to bakeries.

On Saturday you can expect Cooperstown to be a baseball nirvana – plenty of players and Hall of Famers, autograph signings and special events – including the Parade of Legends.

Sunday, the Induction ceremonies will be the order of the day.

All this for $2285 (double) or $2900 single. It promises to be a Grand Slam of a trip.

Ready to take flight and roll with us into Cooperstown?  Here’s another link to that sign-up form – click here .   If you need more info, you’ll find BPT’s phone number, address and email address at the end of this post.

The Tour Operator’s Retirement Trek

Five Days – Four Games – Three Cities – Seven Teams

For those of you who aren’t Roman – Bleacher Bums XLI is Bleacher Bums “41.” That’s right, 41 years of baseball excursions. We’re calling this one “The Tour Operator’s Retirement Trek.” For veteran trekkers, you probably know that’s more of a threat than a promise.

ballpark tours

This time around, we’ll see:

  • Tuesday, June 4, 6:35 p.m. – The Lake County Captains @ the Beloit Sky Carp (Class A);
  • Wednesday, June 5, 7:05 p.m. – White Sox @ Cubs ;
  • Thursday, June 6, 7:10 p.m. – Red Sox @ White Sox ;
  • Friday, June 7, 6:40 pm. – Quad Cities River Bandits @ Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (High-A).

As usual, our hotels are located to optimize your opportunities to enjoy local culture, cuisine (including beverages) and nightlife. There’s even two-nights at Chicago’s historic Palmer House (where, by the way, brownies were invented).

Plus, there are all the great Ballpark Tours’ on-board camaraderie, hoopla and just plain fun – not to mention those BPT collector T-Shirts.

There will also be breweries (we are traveling through Wisconsin after all).

All of this and more, for the bargain price of $1,375 per person (double occupancy). The June jaunt is close to full as we post this, so act fast.

Tank ride & bazooka Moscow

Only in Russia!

Starts at 9am

Duration: 1 day

Tour available in

Want to ride a tank? Of course you do.

Welcome to Russia, where everything and anything is possible—especially riding on a tank, shooting an AK-47 and a bazooka, all while drinking vodka.

At Put-in tours, we have put together the ultimate excursion for men (and their girlfriends). Join us in our Soviet van for an entire afternoon of all-inclusive Russian fun on the battlefield!

Start by visiting Park Patriot, the impressive Russian army exhibition center and museum. There, try your driving skills at the T-80 tank official simulator ,  before you ride on two iconic Soviet armored vehicles (BMP-1 and/or BTR-80) on an off-road training path. Along the way, hone your skills while a drill sergeant shouts commands at you. You may not understand, but impress him anyway with your grenade launching technique and AK-47 assembling speed. Or suffer the consequences.

After that, take another shot of vodka , enjoy the army field lunch provided, and move on to the next activity…

Tank & Shooting Excursion

Honey, I shot a bazooka!

Phase two brings a variety of iconic Russian war weapons to the tip of your trigger finger. Learn about and test the Makarov PM, PPSH-41, Kalashnikov AK-47, RPK, DP28 machine gun, several semi-auto or auto carbines and more… Firing off a bazooka is the grand finale, sure to leave you breathless—just before you send the photos to your mom.

To prevent you from inadvertently blowing up your best friend or transforming your girlfriend into a strainer, we only use non-lethal (but real!) ammo.

And because you’ll want to keep the good times rolling, we also offer a 10% discount on pub-crawl tickets.

Walking tour of montoursville’s indian park will be a step back in time.

ballpark tours

“Residents and visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the rich history of Montoursville with a historic walking tour of Indian Park, which once had its own amusement park,” according to a news release.

The event, sponsored by the General John Burrows Historical Society, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 19 at Indian Park.

“Transport yourself back to the vibrant era of 1905 when Montoursville was home to an enchanting amusement park that captivated the hearts of locals and visitors alike,” the society news release stated. “The society has meticulously curated a collection of photographs depicting the glory days of ‘Starr Island,’ the original name of Indian Amusement Park. In its heyday, Starr Island boasted an array of attractions including a carousel, a wooden roller coaster, fishing and boating opportunities, a bowling alley, a shooting gallery, and a trolley system.”

During the walking tour, attendees can experience the recreation opportunities housed in Starr Island as it stood in 1905. Additionally, a curated selection of historical photographs and artifacts will be on display, providing fascinating insights into the park’s vibrant past.

“This walking tour offers a unique opportunity to connect with the rich heritage of Montoursville and experience firsthand the charm and excitement of Indian Amusement Park,” said Julie Quick, a member of the board of directors of the society. “We invite everyone to join us for this unforgettable journey through time and immerse themselves in the captivating history of our community.”

Admission to the historic walking tour is free, and attendees of all ages are welcome.

Those attending are being asked to meet in Indian Park at 2 p.m. Sunday and can park at the old pool complex and walk back to the soccer fields to start the walking tour.

“Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to step back in time and discover the enchanting legacy of Indian Amusement Park,” the news release said.

Guess what celeb played golf recently at West Palm's The Park? Hint: He lived in DC for 8 years

Yes, that was barack obama teeing it up at the park in west palm beach, accompanied by a lot of secret service golf carts..

ballpark tours

WEST PALM BEACH — Of all the visitors West Palm Beach's immaculate new municipal golf course The Park has drawn in its first year of existence — local Tiger Woods hitting the inaugural tee shot and professional golfers Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang participating in Capital One's The Match — one name quietly teed it up a few weeks ago with no fanfare, but plenty of curious onlookers.

Former President Barack Obama got in a round at the spectacularly redesigned venue on a beautiful day, Friday, April 19, much to the surprise of other golfers.

"We were just out there playing and all of a sudden on an adjacent hole we hear all these golf carts rolling up," said one golfer, who did not want to be identified. "We're like, 'What is happening here?' Then we realize they are all (U.S.) Secret Service and we're watching Barack Obama tee off right next to us. Unbelievable."

Officials at The Park were mum on how it all came together and why Obama decided to play the West Palm Beach course. The former president could have picked any number of private courses in the area to play, but The Park has been a bucket list item for many out-of-staters.

Obama is a member of The Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, where he has played with Woods, former NBA greats Michael Jordan and Alonzo Mourning and former NFL star and sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, among others. When he was president, Obama played Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, a private course that was the site of the 1980s comedy movie "Caddyshack."

It's not clear if Obama played anywhere else on his South Florida visit (although it's probably safe to say he didn't tee it up with former President Donald Trump).

After only a year, numbers show big turnout at The Park golf course in West Palm Beach

The Park has received rave reviews from national publications as a must-play public venue and the statistics after one year of play prove it has been a success. Since opening in April 2023, here are the first-year numbers, according to the course:

  • There have been 41,360 rounds of golf played with 5,717 of those nine-hole rounds.
  • There are 2,209 city resident golfers registered.
  • There have been 8,521 caddied rounds of golf played.
  • About 60% of the rounds have been walkers.

"Without a doubt, (the numbers) have far exceeded our expectations," said Brian Conley, The Park's general manager. "And the word we constantly hear from the golfers is 'fun.' That's really been comforting to us."

The course is spectacular to walk and because there aren't any water hazards, golfers won't lose a ton of balls with a bad round.

The facility is the product of a city-described public-private partnership that resulted from a handshake deal between Mayor Keith James and PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh, who said he raised more than $55 million to rebuild and endow the facility.

The new course is on the site of the former Dick Wilson-designed West Palm Beach Golf Course, which opened in 1947, and it is now considered among the best public courses in the state.

TNT's The Match drew more than a half-million viewers at West Palm's The Park

Another big jolt of publicity came in February when The Park hosted the ninth staging of Capital One's The Match under the lights.

Professional golfers McIlroy, Homa, Thompson and Zhang played a dozen holes for charity in front of a nationally televised audience with TNT NBA announcers Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley and others. McIlroy ended up the big winner, taking the $1.6 million final skin during a "wedge off" on the playoff hole.

Everyone raved about the Gil Hanse- and Jim Wagner-designed course that is known for its immaculate setting as well as its promotion of the game through youth and community programs. It was the first time The Match had been played at a municipal golf course and it averaged 511,000 viewers, including 160,000 female viewers, which is significantly higher than typical LPGA events, according to Sports Business Journal.

Conley said the course was one of three venues that officials from TNT/Time Warner, The PGA Tour and Excel Sports Management were considering and hopes the course can again host a future event.

"The course looked like magic on TV under the lights," Conley said. "And I think everyone was really happy with how it all turned out."

Could The Park ever host a future PGA or LPGA Tour tournament in West Palm?

One thing that isn't likely coming to The Park, however, is a PGA or LPGA Tour event, Conley assures.

"The course is not built for PGA professional golf tournaments," he said. "This course was built for the enjoyment of public golf. It's built to be fun. The architecture of it promotes good pace of play and overall enjoyment. It's not made for that."

And despite its rates — anywhere from $80 to $300 based on city resident discounts to peak season out-of-staters — it's been busy all season.

RELATED: West Palm Beach's spectacular $55 million golf course officially opens for business

RELATED: For some golfers, walking enhances the experience; for others it's tiring and frustrating

Conley says the course has attracted many groups from the south and western part of the state, but that city registrants are still the big draw.

That creates competition for tee times, but Conley said things are slowing down just a bit as the winter and spring season comes to a close. To get the tee time you want, he suggests booking online, where the rates are better, at theparkwestpalm.com about a week out (tee times are available in a 10-day window).

"It's definitely busy and competitive (for tee times), but it's not a concert ticket. Everyone can get one," he said.

Even a former president of the United States.

DreamWorks Land Virtual Tour Sees Shrek, Kung Fu Panda & Trolls Worlds Come to Life

Want your first live-action look at how the animated worlds of  Shrek , Kung Fu Panda , and  Trolls  came to life at DreamWorks Land? Look no further.

ballpark tours

At long last, Universal Studios Orlando Resort let eager fans inside its highly anticipated DreamWorks Land ahead of its grand opening this summer . Although the tour was virtual, it still gives people their first real look at the way some beloved animated characters have been brought to life across the park.

For those unfamiliar, DreamWorks Land is a new park opening at Universal Studios Orlando Resort that will let kids of all ages immerse themselves in the imaginative worlds of DreamWorks franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda , and Trolls . While much has been revealed about what people can expect from the park since it was initially announced mere months ago, the new video sees the creative director of Universal Studios Orlando, Dean Orion, don his hard hat as he shows off just some of the many attractions waiting for your family when you visit the park.

First, he offers a look at Shrek’s Cottage, plucked directly from the films and brought to life in live-action for all to see. Although no characters came out to play during Orion’s tour, those who visit the park will get to meet Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey if they make their way to the cottage for a special meet and greet and a photo opportunity the family is sure to cherish for years to come.

One character that did make an appearance in the video was none other than Pinocchio, who sat in a small treehouse overlooking Shrek’s Swamp for Little Ogres, a new play area within DreamWorks Land. If you press a button labeled “Fact Check” outside his treehouse, Pinocchio will share a fun fact that may or may not be true. If you’re wondering how to tell if he’s telling the truth or not, well, you’re probably not too familiar with Pinocchio.

Next on the tour is Trolls Treats, a new haven for guests with a sweet tooth where they can get all kinds of themed goodies from the world of Trolls . Attendees can then jump aboard the Caterbus and make their way to the park’s thrilling Trollercoaster, which is sure to delight fans of all ages while giving them the best (and fastest) look at the park there is.

This Teaser for Halloween Horror Nights 2024 Will Leave You Terrified

Finally, the tour concludes in Po’s Kung Fu Training Camp where families can immerse themselves in the zen world of Kung Fu Panda . Start your journey off right by pulling a rope and banging a massive gong in the center of the camp to let the entire village know you’ve arrived!

“I can’t wait for you all to experience DreamWorks Land for yourself this summer at Universal Orlando Resort,” Orion concluded  the tour .

If the video above got you excited to take your family on a romp through DreamWorks Land, you can all visit when the park officially opens on June 14, 2024 .

'World's largest bounce house': Big Bounce America 2024 tour coming to Greece park

The Big Bounce is coming to Rochester soon.

Get ready to jump Rochester. The Big Bounce America 2024 tour , home to the World's Largest Bounce House, is on its way.

From Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2, you can experience the world's largest touring inflatable event with its seven massive inflatable attractions at Grace and Truth Sports Park in Greece.

Produced by XL Event Lab, the massive inflatable event is said to have gotten "a whole lot bigger, better and bouncier for 2024!"

Here are some inflatables you can expect to see:

The World's Largest Bounce House

This inflatable goliath now covers an area of over 24,000 square feet and stands 32 feet tall at its highest point. Inside it, you'll find giant slides, ball pits, climbing towers, basketball hoops, and a custom-built stage where the resident DJ will play music and games tailored to each age group. Sessions will be organized by age, ranging from tiny tots to adult-only sessions, so people of all ages are welcome to experience this massive bounce house.

Brand new for 2024, this inflatable is part bouncer and part foam party. Upon entering, this inflatable is said to be like jumping into a deep-sea world filled with colorful ocean creatures, colossal foam cannons and Live DJs spinning from a huge pufferfish stage. Get ready to jump, dance and sing around its giant Octupus's tentacles.

This customized sports arena will be filled with goals, nets, hoops and balls of every size. Compete against family and friends by racing up the climbing tower or taking them on in the ‘battle zone’ to see who can stay on their podium the longest.

If you're looking for a Ninja Warrior type of bounce house, this one is for you. The Giant is over 900 ft. long and includes 50 different obstacles to overcome as you make your way through the course to the grand finale monster slide.

Spreading across three different inflatables, the airSpace is said to be a unique, space-themed wonderland filled with friendly aliens, spaceships, moon craters and more. This immersive inflatable has a huge 5-lane slide, a 25 ft. tall alien at the center of three bottomless ball pits and a giant spaceman jumping around the moon space.

Tickets and Pricing

All-Access Tickets are available online and include a three-hour pass to the event, a timed session on The World's Largest Bounce House and unlimited access to OctoBlast, Sport Slam, The Giant and airSpace. Tickets start at $22 but are expected to sell out so advanced tickets are encouraged.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to star in 'Road Diary' on Hulu, Disney+

2 minute read.

ballpark tours

What's life like backstage with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band?

Find out in “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” which debuts on Hulu and Disney+ in October. The documentary has “exclusive footage” from E Street's current tour, beginning in January 2023 with rehearsals at the Vogel in the Count Base Center for the Arts in Red Bank. There are also interviews with band members, including Springsteen, and concert footage.

Thom Zimny, a frequent Springsteen collaborator, is the director.

“ 'Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band' opens a new door to Springsteen’s creative process for fans around the world, sharing fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage — as well as hearing from Springsteen himself,” states a Hulu/Disney+ release. “These conversations follow Springsteen closely as he develops the story he wants to tell with this tour’s setlist — interspersed with rare archival clips of the E Street Band, underscoring themes of life, loss, mortality and community. In this way, it serves as an essential and never-before-seen chapter in an autobiographical series spanning Springsteen’s memoir 'Born to Run,' 'Springsteen on Broadway,' and the films 'Western Stars' and 'Letter to You.' ”

The tour began Feb. 1, 2023, in Tampa, and was marked by positive critical reviews — and a rash of absences by E Street Band members because of COVID. Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, Jake Clemons, Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell all missed shows.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Several shows were also postponed due to an undisclosed illness, and for a Springsteen illness, as stated for two shows at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia last August.

After three triumphant shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (Aug. 30, and Sept. 1 and 3), Springsteen announced the tour was postponed for the rest of the year as he battled peptic ulcer disease.

“The last four shows, I was playing really ill,” said Springsteen March 21 on SiriusXM's E Street Radio with Jim Rotolo. “So that was Foxborough, which was a great show, and the three Meadowlands shows, which were all, really — the band playing at its best and in front of a great New Jersey audience and a great Boston audience. But I was really not well.”

The tour resumed March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, and its currently in Ireland, where shows are running over three hours.

The exact date for the debut of “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” has not been released yet.
