Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, and Tom DeLonge of Blink-182

Last week, Billboard revealed its year-end Boxscore charts , ranking the top tours, venues, and promoters of 2023. That coverage included analysis of the new wave of genre diverse artists crashing stadium stages, and in turn, our charts. This week, we are breaking down the year’s biggest tours, genre by genre . Today, we continue with rock.

Rock music has been at the center of the touring industry for decades, with legendary acts like The Rolling Stones , U2 , and the Eagles controlling stadium calendars and delivering record-breaking grosses. That is still the case, as rock is responsible for more entries in the all-genre top 10, 20, 40 and 100 than any other genre.

But at 32.4% of all top 100 tours’ grosses, rock takes a dramatic hit from last year’s 42.5% figure. Combined with pop, the two central genres have lost a third of their total market share since the pandemic, as pockets of Latin and K-pop acts take up prime Boxscore real estate. And as rock accounts for many of the oldest artists in the top 100, with Latin and K-pop bringing up the chart’s youngest names, the future of rock bands as touring titans is blurrier than it was 5-10 years ago.

But with a new round of legacy tours from ‘90s and ‘00s bands, plus steady arena grosses from 21st century acts like Arctic Monkeys, Greta Van Fleet and Imagine Dragons, there is still plenty of juice for the coming years.

Scroll to check out the top 10 highest-grossing tours by rock artists, with such acts qualifying due to recent performance on Billboard ’s Top Rock Albums and/or Hot Rock Songs charts. Rankings are determined according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. All reported shows worldwide between Nov. 1, 2022 – Sept. 30, 2023 are eligible.

Page McConnell, Trey Anastasio, and Jon Fishman of Phish

$76.8M / 597K tickets / 41 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 24

Phish is among the most consistent touring acts, regardless of genre. From its annual destination event in Mexico to its reliable runs of shows at Madison Square Garden, the jam-band legends continue to one-up themselves, after winding up at No. 31 on last year’s all-genre ranking.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Flea and Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers

$77.2M / 657K tickets / 18 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 23

Red Hot Chili Peppers repeat in the year-end rock breakdown with shows in Asia, Europe and North America. Still, the band’s $77.2 million total doesn’t include the $48.2 million from its co-headline shows with Post Malone in Australia.

Matthew Bellamy of Muse

$92.7M / 1M tickets / 45 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 20

Muse makes its first appearance among the year-end top 10 rock tours since 2013, when the glam-rock band earned $43.2 million while on The 2nd Law World Tour. The European leg did the heaviest lifting, with nine of the top 10 grosses of the year.

Mark Hoppus from Blink-182

$95.7M / 692K tickets / 45 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 19

Blink is back with the biggest tour of its career. The original trio of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker reunited for 45 sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Things came to a head with two nights at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium, where blink-182 grossed $8.8 million and sold 43,600 tickets.

Guns N' Roses

Axl Rose and Slash of Guns N' Roses

$96.2M / 888K tickets / 31 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 18

Guns N’ Roses logs a second year between $90-100 million after being No. 8 on 2022’s genre Boxscore breakout. More shows after the tracking period’s cutoff puts the rock icons on tap for the ’24 ranking with $19.7 million already in the bank.

Dead & Company

Dead and Company

$114.7M / 845K tickets / 28 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 15

Dead & Company played its farewell tour between May 19 and July 16, yielding its first $100 million summer since launching as a touring unit in 2015. The peak was a three-night run at San Francisco’s Oracle Park to end the tour, earning $20.4 million from 118,000 tickets sold.

James Hetfield, Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica

$125.8M / 1.2M tickets / 19 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: 14

Metallica grossed more than $10 million in seven markets between Europe and North America, doubling up in Montreal, Paris and more. The M72 World Tour continues with scheduled dates through Sept. 29, 2024.

Depeche Mode

Martin Gore and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode

$175.2M / 1.8M tickets / 47 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: No. 9

The first of three rock acts in the all-genre top 10, Depeche Mode scores the biggest year of its touring career, blowing past 2017’s $123.5 million. Three shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol on Sept. 21, 23 and 25 delivered the band’s biggest gross ever, at $15.4 million from 195,000 tickets sold.

Elton John

$210M / 1.3M tickets / 65 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: No. 7

Elton John notches a fifth year on the year-end Boxscore recap with the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, having topped the abridged 2020 report. After all was said and done, set a new record as the highest-grossing tour in Boxscore history, regardless of genre. Over 329 shows, the trek earned $939.1 million and sold six million tickets.

Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin, Will Champion and Guy Berryman of Coldplay

$342.5M / 3.2M tickets / 55 shows

All-Genre Top 100 Rank: No. 2

Switching places with John from last year, Coldplay takes top honors as the highest-grossing rock act of 2023. The band’s spread covers shows in North and South America, as well as Europe, with dates in Asia and Australia in the 2024 tracking window. After kicking off in 2022, the Music of the Spheres Tour has brought in $664.5 million and sold 6.7 million tickets.

Since we’re classic rock purists, we could bring ourselves to include these ’80s and ’90s rock icons on our list.

25 most anticipated tours of 2023

metallica crop hubbard live james hetfield, Jimmy Hubbard

2023 is shaping up to be an utterly massive year for new albums , and it's looking like an equally thrilling year for live music. Pantera will play their first U.S. shows in over 22 years. Metallica are hitting the road in support of a new album. Turnstile are booked for their biggest tour yet: opening for pop-punk giants blink-182 on their hugely anticipated reunion tour. That's just a snippet of the many kickass tours that we can't wait to experience throughout the next trip around the sun. Below are the 25 we're most looking forward to losing our hearing at.

anthraxlive_frankbello_courtesy_of_anthrax.jpg, Anthrax

Anthrax, Black Label Society, Exodus

Kicks off: January 17 Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde are practically joined at the hip these days. Outside of their new duties performing with the freshly reformed Pantera, their respective main bands toured together last summer, and they had so much fun together that they decided to do a whole 'nother run this winter. Anthrax and BLS will be trading off headlining slots, and Bay Area thrash OGs Exodus are joining them for this 24-date venture. It's gonna be a hoot.

we came as romans GETTY 2019, Tim Mosenfelder/WireImage

We Came as Romans, Erra, Brand of Sacrifice

Kicks off: January 19 One of the most devastating collabs of 2022 was "Darkbloom (Reimagined)," We Came as Romans' brutal tag-team with rising deathcore heavyweights Brand of Sacrifice. The younger Canuck band gave the elder metalcore statesmen an added dose of nastiness, and BOS got to dabble in catchier fare, so it's only natural that the two acts would hit the road together in 2023 to play that sucker live. Plus, prog-core vets Erra are rounding out the bill, so be sure to stretch your neck before this one hits your town.

soulfly 2020 GETTY, Medios y Media/Getty Images

Soulfly, Bodybox, Half Heard Voices, Skinflint

Kicks off: January 25 Max Cavalera is one of metal's pre-eminent road dogs. The dude is constantly touring, either with his brother, Iggor, in Cavalera Conspiracy, or with his main band Soulfly, who just dropped a new album last year, Totem , and are jonesing to play the new digs in every nook and cranny in North America. Them and Florida death-metal upstarts Bodybox will kick off a whopping 57-date(!) trek in late January, with Half Heard Voices and Skinflint joining for specific legs.

Parkway Drive live 2016 getty 1600x900, Chiaki Nozu/Getty Images

Parkway Drive, Memphis May Fire, Currents

Kicks off: January 31 It's been a long four years since the Aussie metal institution washed up on North American shores, but Parkway Drive are finally coming back to the U.S. this year. That means it's also their first batch of stateside shows since their latest album, 2022's Darker Still , which features their most anthemic, mountain-scaling compositions yet — the kind of arena-ready, chant-inducing songs that lend themselves to a kickass live show. Huge riffs, huge hooks and (hopefully) huge fucking flames.

Thy art is murder press uncropped

Thy Art is Murder, Kublai Khan, Undeath, I AM, Justice for the Damned

Kicks off: February 8 Deathcore, metalcore, hardcore, death metal — all of those subgenres are accounted for on this crushing tour package helmed by Australia's mighty deathcore champs Thy Art Is Murder. Dubbed "Decade of Hate," the run will be celebrating 10 years of TAIM's deathcore landmark, Hate , and all of the supporting acts hold a candle to that record's baleful energy. Kublai Khan and I AM are Texas' new-gen mosh officers, Undeath are death metal's fastest-rising young act, and Justice for the Damned are bringing even more deathcore from down under.

august burns red jake luhrs 2018 GETTY, Mairo Cinquetti/NurPhoto via Getty Images

August Burns Red, Devil Wears Prada, Bleed From Within

Kicks off: February 15 It's hard to believe that August Burns Red have been around for 20 years now, but the Pennsylvania metalcore stalwarts are indeed hitting the double-decade mark this year. That's a big deal, and there's no better band they could've picked to celebrate that milestone with than fellow metalcore lifers the Devil Wears Prada, who emerged from the same era as ABR and are also still standing stronger than ever today. On top of that, ABR's new record, Death Below , will arrive March 24th, smack-dab in the middle of this journey. Partaayyy .

sunami_2021_8_credit_gabebecerra.jpg, Gabe Becerra

Sunami, Big Boy, Extinguish, Ingrown, Spy

Kicks off: February 24 Sunami have built their brand on being a band from the Bay Area. In fact, they've gone so far as to say that anyone who doesn't reside from that region of California is a bitch. Nevertheless, the rast-rising hardcore brutes are leaving their beloved San Jose for a full month this year while they embark on their first-ever U.S. headlining tour. A murderer's row of hardcore peers will be participating in the journey: Idaho's Ingrown and Sunami's Cali pals in Big Boy, Extinguish and Spy. Let's see if us cold-blooded East Coasters can stand their heat.

vulvodynia_band_pic_1_w_o_logo-web-crop.jpg

Vulvodynia, To the Grave, Viscera, Osiah, Bound in Fear

Kicks off: March 2 According to Lorna Shore frontman Will Ramos, Vulvodynia are the heaviest band out there right now. Those are strong words coming from deathcore's leading screamer, and we're ready to see if the South African slam-death crew back that claim when they visit our hemisphere later this winter. Curated by extreme-metal powerhouse Unique Legion Records, the tour also includes Australian punishers To the Grave and three U.K. deathcore acts: Viscera, Osiah and Bound in Fear. Blood will be spilled in these pits.

underoath_spencerchamberlain_credit_mark-horton_getty-images.jpg, Mark Horton/Getty Images

Underoath, Periphery, Loathe

Kicks off: March 3 This tour is a perfect trifecta of forward-thinking heaviness. You've got Underoath bringing huge choruses, chonky breakdowns and the glitchy effects of their most recent opus, Voyeurist . Periphery are holding it down for the moshing mathematicians, with jazz-influenced prog riffage, djenty grooves and soaring hooks. Then there's Loathe, the hypest metalcore band out of the U.K. who cross the gauzy melodies of Deftones with the room-rumbling heaviness of a metallic hardcore band. Three distinct yet complementary acts, all on one lineup.

devildriver 2019 dez fafara GETTY live, Michael Tullberg/Getty Images

DevilDriver, Cradle of Filth, Black Satellite, ONI

Kicks off: March 8 As great as it is to see bands of a similar feather play together, a well-conceived mixed bill is also a treat. DevilDriver (groove metal) and Cradle of Filth (symphonic black metal) are very different bands in a lot of ways, which means there won't be a stale, redundant moment at their upcoming co-headliner — and the opening bands only add to the variety. Black Satellite sit squarely in the industrial-metal lane and ONI's sound ranges from bouncy djent to hooky metalcore. Something for everyone.

dsc_3238.jpg, Giovanni Reda

Life of Agony, Sick of It All

Kicks off: March 9 Life of Agony's groundbreaking debut, River Runs Red , turns 30 this year, and anyone who catches them on this upcoming tour gets to hear it played in full. It's a pretty sweet deal that's made even sweeter by fellow NYHC veterans Sick of It All joining the trek, creating a must-see bill for anyone who loves the heavy music of the early Nineties. SOIA haven't indicated that they'll be playing any one record of theirs back-to-back, but we have to imagine they'll be following LOA's lead and leaning on the time-tested oldies.

trey azagthoth morbid angel 2017 PRESS

Morbid Angel, Revocation, Skeletal Remains, Vitriol, Crypta

Kicks off: March 15 Florida death metal is 40 years old. Let that sink in. Then, before you get all sullen about the passing of time, flip on Altars of Madness , crank the volume to an ear-piercing high, and get fucking pumped to see Morbid fucking Angel this year, who're honoring their four-decade run with their first tour since 2019. Expect a career-spanning setlist filled with all the gory goodness, and a smattering of opening sets by other, younger death bringers of all stripes.

depeche mode 2022 PROMO, Anton Corbijn

Depeche Mode

Kicks off: March 23 Depeche Mode's first tour in five years will be bittersweet. It'll be their first run without founding keyboardist Andy "Fletch" Fletcher, who passed away last year at age 60, reducing the iconic electronic-rock troupe to a duo. However, moving forward is "what he would have wanted," according to surviving members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, so this world trek will triple as a tribute to his legacy, a celebration of their return to stages and a promotion of their long-awaited new album, Memento Mori.

city morgue GOODRICH 2022 faces, Jason Goodrich

City Morgue, Vein.FM

Kicks off: March 29 City Morgue are a rap duo who love metal and hardcore. Anyone who's heard their trunk-knocking music — which frequently features buzzsaw guitars and screamed vocals from ZillaKami and SosMula — can tell these guys are real-deal headbangers, and they love touring with heavy bands to make their notoriously raucous shows as intense as possible. This spring, Boston hardcore scramblers Vein.FM get the honor of supporting them, and we're already thinking about which shirt we won't mind losing when it ultimately gets ripped off in the sweaty mayhem.

Silverstein 2022 press 1600x900 , Wyatt Clough

Silverstein, Dayseeker, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, One Step Closer

Kicks off: March 30 A big reason why Silverstein continue to connect with younger fans is because they've always been great about touring with a diverse array of up-and-coming bands. On this tour, the Canuck post-hardcore vets are bringing along O.C. post-hardcore crooners Dayseeker, San Diego sasscore heroes SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and one of the quickest-rising bands in hardcore right now, Wilkes Barre's One Step Closer. Old-school Silverstein heads get to hear some new bands, and fans of the opening acts get swept into Silverstein's world. Win-win.

dying fetus 2022 PROMO Scott Kinkade, Scott Kinkade

Dying Fetus, Suicide Silence, Born of Osiris, Sanguisugabogg, Aborted, Crown Magnetar, Slay Squad

Kicks off: April 7 Now in its fourth year, the annual Chaos and Carnage tour is looking more and more like a winter answer to the now-defunct Summer Slaughter tour. Co-headliners Suicide Silence and Dying Fetus are about as strong a union of deathcore and death metal as they come, and the slew of openers — djent-core aliens Born of Osiris, Belgian brutal death vets Aborted and acid-fried death-metal rascals Sanguisgabogg, to name a few — provide a smorgasbord of breakdowns and blast beats for the feasting.

spiritbox MENZER ubs_91022_001.jpg, Rob Menzer

Spiritbox, After the Burial, Intervals

Kicks off: April 10 Spiritbox felt like a headlining act before 2021's Eternal Blue even dropped, and when that album exploded the way it did, the Canuck renegades appeared to be genuine superstars. However, they've somehow never embarked on a U.S. headlining tour — a fact set to change later this spring. Courtney LaPlante and Co. will finally spearhead their own trek, with djent devotees After the Burial and fellow Canadian prog-metallers Intervals rounding out the bill. Catch Spiritbox in 1,000-capacity rooms while you still can.

Black Dahlia Murder 2023 press no Trevor 1600x900

Black Dahlia Murder, Terror, Frozen Soul, Fuming Mouth, Phobophilic

Kicks off: April 15 It's a new era of the Black Dahlia Murder. This will be the Michigan melodeath vets' first tour without their late founding frontman, Trevor Strnad, who'll be replaced on the mic by co-founding guitarist Brian Eschbach going forward. It's a radical shift in the long-running band's lineup, but one thing that hasn't changed is their commitment to big-upping new-gen talent. Alongside hardcore lifers, Terror, the tour features two rising figures in modern death-metal (Frozen Soul and Phobophilic) and Boston metallic-hardcore bruisers Fuming Mouth, marking their first tour since bandleader Mark Whelan was diagnosed with — and beat! — cancer.

mastodon MENZER ubs_91022_004.jpg

Mastodon, Gojira, Lorna Shore

Kicks off: April 18 While it would be fucking sick to see the titular beasts Mastodon and Gojira named their bands after going head-to-head in a Godzilla vs. Kong type movie, when it comes to their music, we're much more excited to see those metal giants uniting as tourmates. Dubbed the Mega-Monsters Tour, the Atlanta prog-metallers and French groovesters will be terrorizing North America throughout two legs of dates this spring and summer, and they're bringing out Lorna Shore — the hottest band in deathcore — as their supporting act. Two words: Fuck yes.

turnstile AZU 2022, Azu Rodriguez

Blink-182, Turnstile

Kicks off: May 4 Arguably the most anticipated 2023 tour in all of rock music, this will mark blink-182's first trek with co-founding singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge in eight years — and it'll be in support of blink's as-yet-unnannounced new album, their first with DeLonge in over a decade. But even if that means absolutely nothing to you, motherfucking Turnstile — the kings of Baltimore, who are now quite possibly the most popular hardcore band ever — will be opening every date. That's fucking insane. Hardcore kids are going to be doing spin kicks next to moms and dads who are there to sing along to "All the Small Things."

death grips GETTY live, Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Death Grips

Kicks off: May 5 Throughout the 2010s, Death Grips built up a reputation as one of the most intense and unpredictable live acts in all of music. Their convulsive fusions of punk, rap and industrial — and frontman MC Ride's bizarre, violent performances — make their cult-like fan base go absolutely apeshit, and the fact that they haven't toured since 2019 means that people have a lot of pent-up ferocity that they're ready to let loose. Even if you think you're hot shit for having survived a Slayer pit, don't let your guard down for a second when "Hustle Bones" starts blaring.

Metallica Zazula tribute 2022 1600x900 cropped , Lantz Martin for Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

Kicks off: August 4 Metallica don't tour that much anymore. As the biggest metal band on the planet for multiple decades running, they don't really have to be out there grinding on month-long treks. So it's always a special affair when they do line up a set of gigs, and even more so when they have a new album to promote. The first U.S. leg of their extensive world tour for April's 72 Seasons LP will see the metal titans playing two "No Repeat Weekend" shows in various cities with a different setlist and different openers each night. Oh yeah, and one of the opening acts is motherfucking Pantera. This ain't your average 'Tallica tour.

pantera 2022 GETTY live zakk wylde anselmo, Guillermo Legaria Schweizer/Getty Images

Kicks off: July 13 Do we really need to tell you why we're looking forward to this? These will be Pantera's first U.S. shows in over 22 years! There're Pantera fans who weren't even alive yet when the band initially broke up, and they're gonna get to see "Cowboys From Hell" and "Mouth For War" and "5 Minutes Alone" played live for the very first time. The power-groove juggernaut's 2023 U.S. run kicks off with a couple festival dates, at Wisconsin's Rockfest and Ohio's Inkcarceration, before Pantera meet up with Metallica. Are we missing this? No way, punk.

Motley Crue John 5 2022 1600x900

Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper

Kicks off: August 5 Last year, Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard spread their glam-metal gospel throughout North America in what ended up being the last-ever tour for founding Crüe guitarist Mick Mars, who announced he was retiring from the road due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.). Therefore, this year's run with Def Leppard and Alice Cooper will be Crüe's first U.S. journey with new touring axman John 5, who's been a member of Rob Zombie's band for roughly 15 years. This should be a smooth transition.

Avenged Sevenfold Live 2018 Jo Hale Redferns , Jo Hale / Redferns

Avenged Sevenfold

Kicks off: TBA Avenged Sevenfold haven't publicly said anything yet about a full-fledged tour, but we'd be shocked if the O.C. metal titans didn't hit the road this year. The band will finally release their long-awaited new album before the clock strikes 2024, and so far, they've been announced as headliners for two major festivals, Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple. A7X haven't played live since 2018 and they'll have a massive new album to promote. A tour has to be on the agenda, too, right?

crosses chino moreno PROMO 2022 crop, Jonathan Weiner

Kicks off: TBA With Deftones taking a breather, it looks like Crosses (†††), Chino Moreno's electronic-rock project with Far's Shaun Lopez, will finally be returning to the stage — the duo promised as much when we spoke to them late last year. Crosses came back in full force in 2022, dropping a double-single and a new EP, and they've teased that they have over a whole album's worth of new material in the pipeline. They also said they hope to be "out there" performing by the spring/summer of 2023 — which would mark their first shows since 2015. A couple festival appearances would be nice, but a tour would be even nicer.

ghost live 2022 wide angle, Instagram @thebandghost

Kicks off: TBA 2022 belonged to Ghost. They won an AMA, went viral on TikTok, threw out an MLB first pitch, headlined humongous shows and dropped the best album of the year. Now, they're due for a proper victory lap, and while they haven't formally unveiled any live show plans, mastermind Tobias Forge confirmed that there's a U.S. trek in the works: "We're going to go into every territory [this] year," he said , "but there's going to be one European tour, one American tour." Ghost's last stateside run — with Mastodon and Spiritbox — wil be hard to top, but if anyone can do it, Papa and the Ghouls can.

ABOUT JOURNEY

Since the group's formation in 1973, JOURNEY has earned 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold over 100 million albums globally. Their "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times-platinum, making JOURNEY one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and their song "Don't Stop Believin'" has been streamed over one billion times alone.

JOURNEY was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, and 2018's co-headlining tour with DEF LEPPARD was the band's most successful tour to date, landing them in the Top 10 year-end touring chart with more than 1 million tickets sold, and earning them the prestigious Billboard "Legends Of Live" touring award. March 2019 saw the release of "Escape & Frontiers Live In Japan", a live DVD/CD set from their concert at the Budokan in Tokyo featuring the band's first-ever performances of the albums "Escape" and "Frontiers" in their entirety. JOURNEY has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame. Additionally, the band is the subject of the award-winning documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the band's resurgence upon adding Arnel Pineda as lead singer after JOURNEY Founder, Neal Schon discovered the Philippines native on YouTube.

The members of TOTO are celebrating an accomplishment few bands have achieved in the modern era. Cumulative streams of the ensemble’s repertoire

now exceed 3 billion plays. Amongst the most listened to recordings, “Africa” accounts for over one billion streams at Spotify alone. This year the song was recertified by the RIAA 8X Platinum.

Over the past decade, the band has had a major renaissance in popularity like few bands at this point in their career. The audience is truly multi-generational, becoming younger with each passing year. Joining Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams are band members bassist John Pierce (Huey Lewis and The News), drummer Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note, Founding member Snarky Puppy, Snoop Dogg), keyboardist Dominique “Xavier” Taplin (Prince, Ghost-Note), multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Warren Ham (Ringo Starr) and keyboardist / background vocalist Steve Maggiora,. This line-up marks the fifteenth incarnation of Toto in consideration of band members or sidemen who joined or exited. Individually and collectively, few have had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. The family tree can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a half a billion albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with hundreds of Grammy nominations.

With now 45+ years together and literally thousands of credits, including the biggest selling album of all time: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and accolades to their names, TOTO remains one of the top selling touring and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility. They are pop culture and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles continuing to remain relevant.

The Pretenders recently had a run of fall dates supporting their recent album Relentless , while Alice Cooper, who recently released his 22nd album, Road , will play a final 2023 show in Mexico City, Mexico in December before extending his tour through 2024 in Europe.

This year also marks the end of the road for some artists.

During the summer of 2023, Elton John ended his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour with a final show in Stockholm, Sweden. In December 2023, KISS , will end their 50-plus-year run of touring with two final shows in their hometown of New York City. Billy Joel has also extended his final run of dates of his MSG residency through the summer of 2024, and the Eagles are continuing their farewell run of shows through 2024.

Though there are plenty more classic rockers bound for the road in 2024, here are five ongoing tours still running through 2023.

1. Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan initially started his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour in 2021 and extended the run in 2023 in North America, which kicked off on October 1 in Kansas City, Missouri, and will continue through December 3 in Evansville, Indiana. Additional dates through 2024 will be revealed at a later date.

Prior to the pandemic in 2020, Dylan had been touring for nearly two years and only missed one year of touring since the Never Ending Tour in 1988.

Some of his recent setlists have included a number of covers, including  Grateful Dead ‘s “West L.A. Fadeaway,” “Truckin,” “Brokedown Palace,” and “Stella Blue,” along with renditions of  Merle Haggard ’s “Bad Actor,” Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” and Bob Weir 2016 song “Only a River.”

Tickets are available via StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

On September 7, 2023, the Eagles kicked off their Long Goodbye Tour in New York City. The first leg of the tour runs through November 17 in St. Paul, Minnesota. For fans who can’t catch them in 2023, the band has added additional dates to their final tour in 2024 with shows added in Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Florida, and Ontario, Canada.

Steely Dan will rejoin the Eagles as support on the additional dates. Early on in the tour, Steely Dan was forced to pull out of several shows in September after frontman Donald Fagen was admitted to the hospital with an undisclosed illness.

The Long Goodbye Tour is the Eagles’ second farewell tour, following their worldwide Farewell 1 Tour, which ran from 2003 through 2006.

3. Peter Frampton

Kicking off his farewell tour on June 18 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Peter Frampton has now extended his Never Say Never Tour in 2023. The tour marks Frampton’s first run of live shows since revealing his diagnosis of degenerative disease inclusion-body myositis, which affects muscle function, in 2019.

“At the end of every Finale Tour show, I did say, ‘Never Say Never,’ and I am always full of hope for the impossible,” said Frampton in a recent statement. “I’m very pleased to let you know that I am feeling strong, and my fingers are still roaming the fretboard. Every note I play now has more meaning and soul. I love playing live, and this fighter wants to stay in the ring for as long as he can. ”

In the spring of 2023,  Graham Nash  embarked on a world tour, which also marked the 60th anniversary of his first single with The Hollies, “(Ain’t That) Just Like Me,” a cover of the Coasters song, which hit No. 25 on the UK chart.

Kicking off with two nights at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania on April 12, Nash’s Sixty Years of Songs and Stories Tour has continued across the U.S. and Europe and returned to America in the fall of 2023. Nash’s tour will wrap up in Australia and New Zealand in March 2024.

Typically running 21 to 23 songs, Nash’s setlists cross  Crosby, Stills & Nash  (CSN) and the group’s catalog with  Neil Young , along with Nash’s solo catalog and some handpicked covers peppered in.

KISS’ back-to-back dates at Madison Square Garden will undoubtedly mark the end of an era, but there’s still a chance to catch them in a number of other cities before then.

“It’s happy and sad because things come to an end,” Gene Simmons told American Songwriter in 2023. “Your life and my life, even the planet we’re on at some point is just going to stop and maybe that’s OK.”

Paul Stanley added, “When I think about the end of it, it doesn’t make me happy. I’ll be ecstatic looking at what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve done, but it’s the end of an era. It’s also the end of a huge part of my life.”

GEORGE THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS ANNOUNCE 50 TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR FOR 2023

‘Bad All Over The World – 50 Years Of Rock’

To Include First Canada Concerts In 3 Years, Major Summer Tour

On December 1st, 1973, a guitarist, a drummer, and their rhythm guitarist loaded their gear into the drummer’s Volkswagen bus and drove to Lane Hall at The University of Delaware. In a week that saw new albums by Wings, Black Sabbath, and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the three-piece band proceeded to play covers that included ‘No Particular Place To Go’, ‘Madison Blues’ and ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.’  The drummer, Jeff Simon, recalls the crowd was wary at first, “then it was like someone flipped a switch.” By the second set, the dance floor was packed.

“After the gig,” the guitarist says with his now-familiar grin, “Jeff and I thought, ‘maybe we’re onto something.’” It was the first-ever performance by George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

Five decades, more than 8,000 live shows, and 15 million albums later, George Thorogood and Jeff Simon – with long-time Destroyers Bill Blough, Jim Suhler and Buddy Leach – now announce their Bad All Over The World – 50 Years of Rock Tour. “From that very first show, we’ve stayed true to ourselves and the music we love,” says Thorogood. “We’ve decided to celebrate our first half-century by throwing the biggest and baddest rock party ever.”

Earlier this week, headliners Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC,  Tool , and  Guns N’ Roses all teased the festival on their official social media. Now, the full lineup is officially confirmed for what may very well be the biggest hard rock festival ever in North America.

On Monday, July 10, Ozzy Osbourne revealed that he would no longer be performing at Power Trip. On Tuesday, July 11, it was announced that British metal icons Judas Priest would be stepping in for Ozzy. Priest will now play opposite AC/DC on Saturday, October 7.

Check out the full lineup artwork below.

Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella, Stagecoach, Cruel World, and more will be putting on Power Trip. The festival will take place in Indio, California at the Empire Polo Grounds (home of Coachella) on October 6 through October 8, 2023.

After announcing his  retirement from touring  back in February, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne has recently expressed his desire to still perform at some capacity in the future. Commercially, Ozzy is enjoying the fruits of his widely successful album  Patient No. 9 . He won two GRAMMY® Awards at the 65th annual event in Los Angeles last month. He took home the hardware for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album. It marked the metal legend’s first solo GRAMMY® win since 1994 when he won Best Metal Performance for “I Don’t Wanna Change the World ( Live & Loud ).

“I’m one lucky motherfucker to have won the Best Rock Album Grammy,” the now a five-time GRAMMY® Award winner exclaimed. “I was blessed to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world and Andrew Watt as my producer on this album. Winning the Best Metal Performance was equally gratifying being that the song featured my longtime friend and Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi.”

Metallica’s upcoming eleventh studio LP  72 Seasons  arrives on April 14 via the band’s own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track  72 Seasons  is Metallica’s first full length collection of new material since 2016’s  Hardwired…To Self-Destruct . The album will be released in formats including 2LP 140-gram black vinyl and limited edition variants, CD and digital download.

Additionally, Metallica are  returning to the road  this summer. The band previously announced their M72 Word Tour which will see the band perform back-to-back nights at each stop with no repeat performances. In each city, special guests on Night One will be Pantera and Mammoth WVH. Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills will serve as support on Night 2. Tickets are on sale now  HERE .

Iron Maiden brought their Legacy of the Beast Tour back to North American last year for another massive run. The band’s latest album  Senjutsu  arrived in 2021. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock and Top Hard Rock Albums charts.

In 2020, AC/DC released their seventeenth studio album  Power Up . The record peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and topped the charts in several other countries around the world. Once again, Angus and Malcolm Young’s nephew Stevie Young, who took over rhythm guitar duties for Malcolm after his passing in 2017. AC/DC have not toured since their Rock or Bust trek wrapped up in 2016.

Tool have a number of festival appearances slated for 2022, including a headlining slot at Aftershock. Last summer, they released their GRAMMY®-Award winning fifth album  Fear Inoculum  as a new black vinyl set via RCA Records. The 3-disc 180 gram set on black vinyl features new artwork by guitarist Adam Jones. It comes in a triple gatefold jacket and an exclusive 12″ x 36″ double-sided poster. Last March, Tool released a re-imagined version of “Opiate,” the title track from their first EP. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first commercially-available release, the band re-worked and extended the song –  “Opiate 2 “  – with an accompanying short film.

Guns N’ Roses are embarking on a massive world tour this summer. The North American leg runs through October 16m making stops in Boston, Chicago, Nashville, Charlotte, Vancouver, and more. The band is also returning to Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania for the first U.S. show of the tour. They previously kicked off their We’re F’N Back! Tour there back in 2021. Revisit our review and live photos from the show  HERE .

Last year, Guns N’ Roses came out with a a new EP  Hard Skool . The record was released nearly a year ago on February 25, 2022. It was the first time in 28 years that vocalist Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, and bassist Duff McKagan collaborated together on new material together.

The trio was accompanied on the new studio effort by the current members of the GNR lineup, which is completed by guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer, as well as keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese. The EP featured live recordings of the band’s ‘91 power ballad “Don’t Cry” and “You’re Crazy” from their seminal debut LP  Appetite For Destruction .

Released back in August of 2021, the single “Absurd “ was the first new Guns N’ Roses song in 13 years.

Fresh off their  50th anniversary celebrations , Judas Priest are reportedly working on music for the follow-up to their acclaimed 2018 album  Firepower . The record is the band’s biggest commercial success, charting at No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart and Billboard 200 as well as hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart. After delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Judas Priest toured relentlessly to celebrate the success of Firepower and the band’s five decades of heavy metal.

Bret Michaels’ Parti-Gras 2.0 will be making a stop in the rock star’s old stomping grounds.

Michaels, best known as the frontman for the rock group Poison, grew up in the Mechanicsburg area and often makes return visits to the region.

Last year, his Parti-Gras concert made a stop at the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course . And he’ll be returning there once more this year, with another Parti-Gras concert on Sept. 14.

Michaels made the announcement via a digital press conference, in which he shared that he will be joined at the show by Dee Snider, lead singer of Twisted Sister, as well as singer Mark McGrath of the band Sugar Ray.

“When we do this, this is a non-stop party, a night of all killer hits, no filler,” Michaels said. “It’s going to be unbelievable.”

Michaels also noted in the announcement the odd coincidence that he, Snider and McGrath all shared the same birthday, March 15.

“This is like a birthday spectacular,” he said. “It will be the first time all three of us will get together and rock the stage.”

The show will also include opening acts Great White and Dave Bray, and will once again honor local veterans at the performance, as well as raise money for diabetes care.

As with last year, the concert is partnered with the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame. And Michaels added that “coming back to Central Pennsylvania where I grew up, it’s going to be an unbelievable night.”

“People ask me, why do you so often come back to central Pennsylvania?” Michaels said. “That’s simple: I love it.”

Tickets for the show open for public sale starting at 10 a.m. on May 9 through Ticketmaster . More information on the Hollywood Casino Outdoor Concert Series can be found through their website here .

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.
