Tour itinerary was well planned in order to see and hike Utah’s Big 5 National parks in 9 days. Our guide Rachel was excellent and did her best to manage 12 clients, drive, buy food, supervise food preparations and clean up, and break camp. However, given the amount of organization needed for camping, meals and driving required; and overseeing the often difficult and strenuous hikes, it would have been a better trip if there were 2 guides instead of only one. This trip went very well because we were an older group with many professionals with administration experience who pitched in to help the trip go smoothly. If a group on this tour does not blend as well as we did, don’t pitch in to do their share of work, and/or do not have experience working as a-team with administration experience, it may not go so well or more likely be a disaster. To avoid this, better to have 2 guides.

What a wonderful way to discover Alaska! A memorable trip thanks to the efforts of Natalie, Dave, and Carolina. Infinite Adventures provides a really unique travel experience. Their bus is creatively outfitted to be a traveling home for 16 tour participants. By the end of our journey, we felt like a traveling family because the trip provided opportunities to connect and bond with fellow travelers. The Kenai trip was well-planned. It offered the right mix of adventure and convenience. The company makes all the arrangements. Yet, there are opportunities for travelers to participate in setting up camp, preparing food, and cleaning up. Natalie, Dave, and Carolina were warm, friendly, and responsive to travelers' needs. Natalie and Dave's 3 year old son was an adorable addition to our trip. The whole experience felt much more personalized than traveling with a bigger company. Alaska is so much bigger and more exquisite than I had imagined. The highlight was the glacier visit - other-worldly! Throughout the trip, I appreciated the organization and planning that made our journey from one location to another smooth and interesting. Hike Alaska: Glaciers and Denali

Exceeded expectations, everything was smooth. Great guide.

Majestic Alaska (10 Days)

In general things went very well. However, At the Denali location there was a shortage of staff which prevented full service at the Park, Ie. not all dinning venues were normal and our room service such as daily service was missing. We were told, staff shortage due to Canadian employees may have left due to concern of border being closed into Canada. Hotel dysfunction on a limited basis due to that concern. On our last day at the Anchorage Hilton room service was missing also. Not sure why. Most other activities were well supplied/performed. We were pleased.with our Tour Director Tyler, Bus Driver Les and Health coordinator Carol., Some other venues were a bit restricted due to COVID-19 concerns which appear to be out of control of Tourradar. We loved Valdez,, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Kanai Fjords National Park, as well as the Athabascan Village and flat boat ride and other amenities such as the Husky Dog Farm. Overall pleased, except as noted above. The weather cooperated 100%.

Yellowstone & Rocky Mountain Explorer

No Words Can Adequately Describe...We recently went on the 7 day Southwest tour followed by the 7 day Yellowstone tour. We chose the camping option. All our expectations were exceeded. The itinerary was full on, allowing us to see everything on offer and more. A huge thank you to Chris Patrick, our guide. He kept everyone engaged, entertained, watered and fed. No request or concerns went unanswered. He's an asset to the Bindlestiff team and we would DEFINITELY recommend you do these trips. Being able to stay right in the National Parks was fantastic.

Alaska Journey National Geographic Journeys

We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".

Excellent trip. There was a lot of driving but it was worth it. We had excellent guides with information that wasn't listed on the website. There was a lot of driving but many stops to break that up. I have been on a number of tours in America and Europe and found the hotels on this tour to much nicer than in the past. The tours of Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon were nothing less than SPECTACULAR. The guides on the bus and at the sites were more than knowledgeable. The bus was top of the line. the best way to explore the vastness and glory of the Utah desert is by camping and hiking in small groups. I enjoyed this trip immensely, it was challenging enough but not too much. Our guide was a brave and resourceful powerful woman. I am planning my next trip with you already!

Quinta do Lago in a nutshell 

Quinta is a sprawling, upmarket golf resort nestled inside an even bigger nature reserve, with so much to see and do.

The Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected nature reserve that stretches along Portugal’s southeastern coast, from Faro to Tavira, is one of the country’s seven wonders, and is a defining feature of the luxurious area.

Quinta itself is a residential resort, with luxury villas and apartments – one of which is owned by Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard – nestled among hotels and holiday homes. 

With this in mind, the price of the surprise package is an insanely good deal. With facilities fit for the stars, it’s hard to argue.

I stayed in a private room at the resort’s boutique-yet-cheap hotel, the Magnolia, which had a Palm Springs feel to it. 

It was the ideal place for me as it had a gym, sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool – all the things that bring me comfort when I’m on holiday. Not to mention, the breakfast was lovely and the cappuccinos were great, too. 

The resort is also home to 15 dining and drink options, including a Japanese restaurant, a fresh seafood restaurant and a classic Portuguese steakhouse. There are some more casual options for lunch, too, including sports bar Dano’s and health cafe PURE. 

While food is not included in the price of the surprise packages, Quinta’s dining options are, frankly, unmissable. The selection of steaks at Bovina were mouthwateringly tender, and lakeside Casa Lago’s seabass was cooked to perfection.

There are a plethora of excursions and activities to try at Quinta, from sports and fitness classes at the renowned Campus fitness centre to golf lessons, cooking classes and nature tours. 

To help the resort choose which experiences to put into my three day itinerary, I answered a questionnaire, which asked questions about dietary requirements, the sorts of things you’re into (art and culture, food, fitness, etc.) and some broader questions about yourself and whoever you’re travelling with. It also meant I had a rough idea of what to pack.

When I walked into my hotel room, I was eager to check out my itinerary for the next few days. So, what did they come up with?

Day 1: Razor clams and padel

On the first day, I was up bright and early for a bit of an adventure — a trip down the Ria Formosa lagoon on a fishing boat adorned with huge, painted eyes. We’re off to learn how the Algarve fisherman dig for clams.

We spent the morning up to our calves in either sea water or sand, using alien (to our city dwelling hands) tools to root through the earth for razor clams and cockles. 

I figured out how to squat comfortably while keeping my not-well-thought-out midi skirt out of the muck, and dug away, filling a basket with little critters which we eventually sent back to the ocean. 

Afterwards it was another new and nerve wracking experience for me: learning to play padel, a new racket sport, and one of the fastest growing sports in the world. 

Despite the flashbacks to high school PE classes and fears of being smacked in the face by a ball, the padel class was easily my favourite activity — and something I never would have chosen to do if it wasn’t for the surprise package.

The endorphins rushed through my body as I went along for a quick gym session before heading back to the hotel. If this is what getting out of my comfort zone felt like, why had I waited so long to do it?

Day 2: Lake sports and nature walks

Day two was more sports, and a wander through the nature reserve with a wildlife specialist, who pointed out rare species of birds, fiddler crabs and turtles – yes, turtles! – which lived around the resort. 

The owners of Quinta do their bit to preserve the natural environment, with 91% of the land conserved, and it’s a blessing. Being able to wander through the nature reserve under the beating sun was truly beautiful, and something I’d have liked to do whether it was included in my package or not.

Later, we headed to the lake to try out some watersports. I’d never been on a paddleboard before – I’d always been too scared of falling in – but I put on my brave face and gave it a go.

To my surprise, it’s really easy to balance on a paddleboard. What’s less easy is trying to navigate around a gaggle of school children also trying their hand at sailing on the lake. 

Afterwards, we went to Umami, the resort’s Japanese restaurant, and feasted on the most delicious food, the standouts including platters of sushi, milk buns and chicken satay, before heading back to the Magnolia bar for drinks.

On the surface, Quinta Do Lago is a destination for golf lovers – and that it is  – but it’s also so much more than that. Whether you’re a fitness and wellness buff, a culture vulture or the ultimate foodie, there’s something for everyone.

Ryanair declares: we don’t do package holidays

“Pirate of the month”: that unusual award is handed out to the online travel agent (OTA) that Ryanair believes is the worst offender at overcharging passengers when selling the airline’s tickets.

You might imagine that any low-cost carrier would be delighted to have its seats retailed by another company. But Ryanair is campaigning against “scams, overcharges and invented charges” imposed by these agents. The carrier is appalled at the profiteering by OTAs that inflate charges for seat selection, baggage, etc.

Some of these agents create arbitrary email addresses for passengers as part of the booking process, which makes it much harder for Ryanair to provide the necessary options when things go wrong.

Book through a “pirate” online travel agent and you may face a series of hurdles known as Ryanair’s “customer verification process” before you are allowed to fly. This involves creating an online profile, photographing your passport and providing a facial biometric.

As recently as February, On the Beach, one of the UK’s leading OTAs, was selected as No 1 pirate by Ryanair.

Yet at the On the Beach headquarters in Manchester this week, it became clear that all is now sweetness and light between the two companies. They have agreed a deal by which the online travel agent will sell Ryanair flights – and pass on passengers’ contact details to the airline for use at check-in or when managing disruption.

“Having them as part of our proposition is brilliant for us,” says Shaun Morton, chief executive of On the Beach.

“I always welcome competition. The more players you have the better. And I think it’s great for the whole industry. It makes sure that the market is not dominated by a small number of tour operators.”

On the Beach’s boss may possibly be thinking of Tui, which is Europe’s biggest holiday company, as well as the two thriving package holiday operations set up by Jet2 and easyJet.

Since the collapse of Thomas Cook five years ago, Jet2 Holidays has grown to become the biggest tour operator in the UK. Arch-rival easyJet Holidays has now leapfrogged On The Beach in terms of the number of holidays covered by its Atol licence.

Why does Ryanair not simply follow easyJet and Jet2 in setting up its own holiday company? After all, Jet2 has thrived since it launched its holiday offering 17 summers ago. Ryanair flies far more people to the Mediterranean, but rarely extracts any value from their spending beyond the flight.

It is worth remembering that easyJet Holidays made good only at its third attempt. Likewise, Ryanair has tried to launch a Holidays brand a couple of times, but the projects fizzled out.

Now, airline supremo Eddie Wilson has confirmed it will leave the packaging to companies like On The Beach.

“We’re the airline business, not the package holiday business,” he says.

Mr Wilson has arguably the toughest role in aviation: chief executive of Ryanair DAC, the airline’s main operating business.

The generally well-oiled machine that is Europe’s biggest budget carrier is vulnerable to disruption from all angles: air-traffic control strikes in France , periodic thunderstorms in northern Italy and Belarus Air Force MiG fighters “helping” a Ryanair passenger to divert to Minsk .

When things go Tango Uniform, Mr Wilson has to sort out the passengers, planes and crews that are not where they expected to be and manage the operation back to full speed. That leaves little scope for negotiating the best rates with hoteliers, marketing packages in a ferociously competitive market and providing the intricate response to holiday problems that the Package Travel Regulations require.

“It’s not a business that we have any intention of being in,” he says.

Ryanair flies safely and often undercuts other airlines. The ready availability of its flights from approved OTAs is excellent news for travellers.

Buying a package provides gold-plated consumer protection; it is up to the online travel agents to show they are fully respecting the rules. I will be watching.

Meanwhile, beware of pirates.
