Do My Financial Difficulties Allow Me to Travel on a Child Ticket?

Do I Have to Make up Missed Prayers During a Travel? (Hanbali)

Answered by Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael

Question: Assalam alaykum,

While travelling, sometimes it is impossible to offer even the shortened prayers due to the impossibility to perform wudu. Do I still have to make these prayers up?

Answer: Dear questioner about making up prayers,

YOU HAVE TO MAKE WUDU

Before answering your question I have to point out that the absence of water or being unable to perform wudu is not a reason not to perform prayer. If there is water, wudu is obligatory. If it is difficult, then one can just perform the obligatory actions of the wudu, and wash the limbs only once. If one is not able to perform ablution because of a valid reason then he or she prays after doing tayammum.

MAKING UP PRAYERS

You have to make up the prayers you have missed. Without regards being still on your journey or after the journey you will perform all of them – apart from Fajr and Maghreb – four raka’at, and should never miss them again and ask Allah swt to forgive you, as this is one of the major sins.

NOT BEING ABLE TO PERFORM ABLUTION AFTER MENSTRUATION

If a woman stops menstruating and she is not able to perform wudu because of a valid reason then she should clean her intimate parts in the best of ways, remove the traces of blood and perform tayammum and pray if she fears that the prayer-time will pass.

I ask Allah to make us of those who preserve and establish their prayers, amin.

Wassalam [Shaykh] Sulayman Van Ael Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael received ijazah from various luminaries in the ten Qoranic readings, in Ihya ulum ad din, in several books of hadeeth, in Matn abi Shuja’, in several books of Shaykh Abu Ghudda and in many different basic texts in grammar, fundamentals of fiqh, tajweed and other islamic sciences.

How to Perform Salah When Travelling

If you are traveling, the following question may arise: How to pray Salah while traveling? It is important to know for Muslims how to pray while travelling because praying is one of the obligatory worship for every Muslim around the world. However, the journey that you take can be long and tiring. Therefore, Almighty Allah has offered us convenience to pray Salah during the travelling.

You can perform Salah while traveling  by shortening the rakats from 4 to 2 of Dhuhr, Asr and Ishaa prayers, and you can also combine the dhuhr with Asr, and Maghreb with Isha. If you can not find a proper place to perform the prayer, you can pray in a sitting position, and make Tayamum instead of Wudu with Water, if there is no access to water or place to make Wudu.

Can I Pray Maghrib and Isha Together When Travelling?

The other question about how to perform prayers during a journey is that if we can pray Dhuhr and Asr together while traveling. If you are traveling or have an important excuse, you can combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers. The person who will perform the prayers by combining them performs these prayers one after the other and in order. He does not perform the Sunnah Prayers between two Fards and does not engage in anything else.

As a conclusion, it can be performed by combining Dhuhr and Asr during the journey. In this case, the 3 rakats Fard of Maghrib and 2 rakats Isha prayers can be combined in time of Maghrib or Isha.

How Muslims Should Perform Salah During Traveling?

In this article, we will discuss how muslims should perform salah during travelling and what steps they can take to ensure that their prayers are following islamic teachings..

Salah During Traveling

Our planner is created to improve your spiritual journey, giving you a organized and meaningful approach to navigating each day of Ramadan.

Prayer is one of the most essential and central practices in Islam, and it is a means of connecting with Allah (God) and gaining spiritual strength. However, for Muslims who are traveling, the regular practice of Salah can be disrupted for various reasons. Like changes in the time of prayer, difficulties finding a suitable place to pray, and travel stress.

Despite these challenges, Muslims are still required to perform Salah and maintain their connection with Allah while on the road. Well, fret not; in this article, we will discuss how Muslims should perform Salah during travel and what steps they can take to ensure that their prayers are following Islamic teachings. So, let’s get started.

5 Things to Remember When Performing Salah While Traveling

Here are five things you can do to perform a prayer when on a journey and can’t find a suitable place or time to pray.

1.     Reducing the Number of Rakats

When traveling, Muslims can shorten their Salah from the usual four Rak’ahs to two Rak’ahs for the Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha prayers. This is known as “Qasr” (shortening) and is considered a concession for travelers to perform Salah while on a journey away from home.

Narrated Yahya bin ‘Is-haq:

” title="Advertise and Market to Muslims" target="_blank">Ads by Muslim Ad Network

I heard Anas saying, “We traveled with the Prophet (ﷺ) from Medina to Mecca and offered two rak`at (for every prayer) till we returned to Medina.” I said, “Did you stay for a while in Mecca?” He replied, “We stayed in Mecca for ten days.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 1081

This ruling is based on the idea that travel can be physically and mentally demanding. Thus, reducing the number of Rakats makes it easier for travelers to maintain their Salah practice while on the road.

Following this, the Fards (Farz) of Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha were reduced to two Rakats. There is no restriction on the traveler’s choice of praying Sunnah or Nafl. While traveling, it is advised that you pray only the Fard (Farz) Prayers.

Here are the number of Rakats you can n pray for each prayer while traveling:

  • Fajr: 2 FarzRakats
  • Dhuhr: 2 FarzRakats
  • Asr: 2 FarzRakats
  • Maghrib: 3 FarzRakats
  • Isha: 2 FarzRakts

2.     Making Up Missed Prayers

If a traveler misses any of the prayers while on the road, they should make them up by combining the missed prayers with the next prayer. For example, if the traveler misses the Dhuhr prayer, they can make it up by combining it with the Asr prayer when the time for Asr arrives.

Remember that this rule only applies to travelers and that non-travelers should perform missed prayers as soon as possible and separately from the next prayer.

Always make dua (pray) to Allah to make your journey safer and fulfill the purpose of the journey with ease. There are many Duas for traveling in Islam that you say before starting the journey and some after you reach the destination. Memorize each so you can remember which to say at what time.

3.     Joining Two Prayers

Another concession for travelers is the ability to combine two prayers. When traveling, Muslims may combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers and the Maghrib and Isha prayers if they are afraid of missing the time for either of them or are concerned about their safety.

The traveler may perform both prayers at the time of Dhuhr if both are due at noon and Asr is due mid-afternoon.

This way, they can fulfill their obligation to perform both prayers and avoid the difficulties of finding a suitable place to pray at different times during their journey.

4.     Facing the Direction of Mecca

When performing Salah, travelers should face Mecca’s direction, known as “Qiblah.” This is a fundamental aspect of Salah and is considered a symbol of the unity of the Muslim community.

If it is impossible to face Mecca, such as when a traveler is on a ship or in a plane, they should meet in the direction of the nearest place where they can face Mecca. In these cases, the traveler should use their best judgment and try to face Mecca as closely as possible.

Many mobile apps can give you the direction of Qiblah anywhere in the world. So, install one of these on your phone if you are going on a long journey and have difficulty finding Qiblah.

5.     Performing Wudu (Ablution)

Before performing Salah, travelers must perform Wudu to cleanse their bodies from filth and prepare for prayer. Wudu is a compulsory part of Salah, and there are specific guidelines for performing it, but for travelers, these guidelines are different.

Mainly water is used for performing Wudu in daily routine, but for travelers, this can be a problem, and sometimes water is unavailable.

Travelers may perform Tayammum, a dry purification using earth or dust if water is unavailable. In either case, travelers need to ensure they have Wudu or Tayammum before they pray.

What Do different Schools of Thought Say About Performing Salah During Traveling?

Now that you understand how to perform prayer while traveling let’s look at some schools of thought on this matter. If you belong to a specific sect and strictly follow its guidelines, you must know what your sect permits.

Hanafi : Hanafi thought emphasizes the importance of reducing the number of Rak’ahs during travel and allows travelers to shorten their prayers to two Rak’ahs. They also allow for the combination of two prayers.

Maliki : Maliki thought also permits travelers to shorten their prayers to two Rak’ahs. Although, they do not allow combining the two prayers without a legitimate reason.

Shafi’i : The Shafi school of thought also allows travelers to shorten their prayers to two Rak’ahs and to combine two prayers if they miss one of the prayers if they are performed separately.

Hanbali : Hanbali thought also permits travelers to shorten their prayers to two Rak’ahs, but they do not allow combining two prayers unless there is a legitimate reason, such as fear for safety.

Performing Salah is one of the five pillars of Islam and is of utmost importance in a Muslim’s daily life. Considering the importance of Salah in Islam , while traveling it is crucial to adhere to the guidelines and rules set by Islam to ensure that the Salah is performed correctly and by the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The flexibility provided by Islam in performing Salah while traveling makes it easier for Muslims to maintain their daily worship even when they are on the move. To continue fulfilling Salah duty without any hindrance, Muslims need to be aware of the rules and guidelines for performing Salah while traveling.

With the right intention and commitment, the performance of Salah while traveling can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience for every Muslim.

In addition to being required to pray three times daily (normally five, but exceptions are made when traveling), Allah also requires Muslims to begin other prayers, or duas, to keep them safe as soon as they leave their cities or towns and begin their travels. Whether before or during their travels—and whether by airplane, car, boat or other transportation—Muslims ask Allah to protect them on their journeys and get them back home safely to their families.

Invocation for Traveling

Surely, unto our Lord we are returning. O Allah, we ask You on this our journey for goodness and piety, and for works that are pleasing to You. O Allah, lighten this journey for us and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, You are our Companion on the road and the One in Whose care we leave our family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from this journey's hardships, and from the wicked sights in store and from finding our family and property in misfortune upon returning.

#242: methodology of qadha prayer for missed prayer during travels.

Assalamualaikum ustaz. I missed both my Zohor and Asar prayers when I was travelling previously. Should I replace my prayers in full (each with four rakaat) or just qadha with two rakaat prayers each?

Waalaikumussalam wrt. wbt.,

Alhamdulillah, praise and gratitude to Allah SWT for His countless blessings for us all. Praise and salutations to our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his family, companions, and all those who follow his footsteps until the Final day.

Islam permits a traveller who is on a journey of more than two marhalah to qasar or shortens the rakaat for prayers which is permissible for qasar such as Zohor, Asar and Isyak. Islam also permits a traveller to gather two obligatory prayers at one time which is known as jamak prayers. There are two categories of jamak which are; jamak taqdim and jamak ta’khir.

Qasar prayer is a rukhsah (facilitation) given during travels. This is based on a question asked by Umar bin al-Khattab to Rasullullah PBUH. Ya’la bin Umayyah said to Umar RA:

In answering the above question, we begin with the statement of the Prophet PBUH:

إِذَا رَقَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ أَوْ غَفَلَ عَنْهَا فَلْيُصَلِّهَا إِذَا ذَكَرَهَا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ أَقِمِ الصَّلاَةَ لِذِكْرِي

Whilst, according to madhhab Syafie, the azhar qaul is for the prayer missed during qasar to be qadha in qasar if he is travelling and in full if he is residing. However, there are three other opinions on this issue:

  • Qadha in full regardless of whether he is travelling or residing.
  • Qadha by qasar regardless of whether he is travelling or residing.
  • Qadha by qasar if he is travelling and in full is he is residing or on another journey. [6]

To conclude, we are inclined towards the opinion of madhhab Syafi’e and Hanbali, it is permissible to qadha the missed prayer during travels by qasar on the condition that he is still travelling. As for if he is now residing somewhere, then he should qadha in full. Likewise, if he missed his prayers when he was residing and wanted to replace the prayer when he is travelling, then he should do so in full.

Wallahu a’lam.

Traveling is ubiquitous in our lives. From day to day work commutes to going on a trip or vacation with our family or friends, we are constantly traveling. And we thank God that traveling has also been made easy. We can turn to many modes of transportation to bring us to our desired destinations. However, traveling still remains a stressful activity. We worry about safety, the sudden change in weather, missed flights, or lost luggage. The list of what can go wrong while traveling is endless and daunting. How and what can we do to deal when such a situation arises? We can turn to our God and say a quick prayer for safe travel.

Biblical characters like Noah ( Genesis 7:1-24 ), Abraham ( Genesis 12:1-20 , Genesis 13:1-18 ), and Moses ( Exodus 4:18-31 ) have also embarked on several epic journeys. They would have fervently prayed for a safe journey and blessings. Similarly, we should also pray each time we go on a trip. I personally believe that prayer for safe travel is a powerful thing to do before any trip. By praying, we are inviting God and trusting Him that He will get us to our destination, safe and sound. Here are some short prayers for travel that we can pray before traveling.

1. A Short Prayer for Safe Travel

Here is a short prayer for safe travel that you can say right before your trip.

Lord, I know that You watch my coming and going. Today, I pray for You to watch over me as I travel. Keep me safe in Your loving arms. Let no harm come upon me during my trip and cover me under Your mighty wings. As I step out and start on my journey, I will choose to trust you and not give in to fear. Help me get to my destination and get home safely. Help me to experience Your greatness and love during this trip so that I may draw even closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Psalm 121:7-8 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

2. Prayer for Travel Blessings to Have A Safe Flight

As we go on our trip, let us also ask the Lord for His blessing and favor so that our journey may be smooth and peaceful. Here is a short prayer we can lift to the Lord before a flight.

Dear God, today I seek Your blessing and favor for our journey. I pray for good weather for our flight to be smooth and calm. Bless us with clear skies and the pilot with an alert mind and steady hands. I pray that Your mercy and gra

Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord himself will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forget you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.

3. Prayer for Road Trip

Here is a prayer for safe driving and traveling. Let us seek the Lord’s protection before we go on a road trip so He can protect us and keep us safe while we’re on the road.

Lord, today I entrust You for your safety as we go on this road trip. I pray for an alert mind so that I may drive safely. Please sustain my strength during the long trip and bless me with steady hands. Grant in me patience and courtesy to the other drivers on the road, just as how You grant them with patience as well. May this be a smooth journey and no accidents will occur. Bless us, oh Lord, with Your grace and favor that we would enjoy this road trip and witness the wonderful creation that You’ve created with Your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Psalm 23:3-4   He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name. Even though I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid, because you are will me. Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me.

4. Prayer for Safety and Health Protection from Sickness During Travel

It is also good to pray for the Lord’s protection against any kind of sickness during travel to fully enjoy our trip.

Dear God, as we travel today, I pray that You bless us with Your protection against any kind of sickness during our trip. Bless us with Your mercy and grace that we may be kept in good health as we travel. May the people around us during this trip also be in good health. Protect us from any virus that can bring harm to our health. Give us wisdom to also exercise caution and good hygiene throughout this trip. May the foods that we consume throughout this trip be cleansed by You to provide us with the nutrition to protect our bodies, the holy temples of Yours.  All this I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

5. Safe Travel Prayers for Friends and Loved Ones

We can also bless our friends and loved ones with a prayer for safe travel before they embark on a trip. Here is a prayer that we can lift for a loved one’s safe journey before they travel.

Dear Lord, today I surrender my loved one into Your hands. I ask that You bless him/her with a safe trip and cover him/her with Your protection. Shine Your face on him/her Lord, so that no harm come upon him/her and shower them with Your grace as they go. I pray that they would experience Your presence and Your peace during this trip that no trouble or mishap would come upon them. Keep them in good health and give them wisdom and alert mind throughout their journey. May they get to their destination safe and sound. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

May our journey be smooth and peaceful, and may we get to our destination safely. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a Friend or Loved One Traveling

Bible verses about god's protection.

Traveling for the holidays can bring a lot of worry and anxiety. What if we break down? What if we get a flat tire? What if we get stranded outside of nowhere? What if we get lost? Even with all our modern conveniences like cell phones, GPS and services like Onstar, anxiety can still set in. Still, we need to trust above all else, that the Lord will keep us safe. Here are some verses to keep in mind when the worry and anxiety of traveling get to be too much.

My God is my rock. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my savior, the one who saves me from violence.  2 Samuel 22:3 (NLT)

He led me to a place of safety, he rescued me because he delights in me. 2 Samuel 22:20 (NLT)

Is it not my family that God has chosen? Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success. 2 Samuel 23:5 (NLT)

Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and rest in safety.  Job 11:8 (NLT)

So the Lord provided someone to rescue the Israelites from the Arameans. Then Israel lived in safety again, as they had in former days. 2 Kings 13:5 (NLT)

We shall start out on our road trips like we do any other journey in life, trusting the Lord to lead us, guide us, and keep us safe. With him, we can never be lost, and we’ll always find our way back home.

Franco Morbidelli, Prima Pramac Racing, Fly to Qatar GP

The Italian missed both pre-season tests after a training incident, but is hopeful of participating in the season opener

We're just days out from the opening round of the season, and Franco Morbidelli's participation continues to hang in the balance. The Italian is hoping to make his Prima Pramac Racing debut in the desert, and the team have announced he has travelled to Lusail International Circuit in the hope he will be passed fit after Thursday's medical check.

Having made the switch from Yamaha during the off-season, Morbidelli is yet to ride Ducati's GP24 this season after a heavy training crash in Portimao saw him ruled out of both the Sepang and Qatar pre-season Tests . In a turn of good news, the #21 underwent an MRI on March 2nd which yielded "favourable results" according to the team, and now just awaits the final ok from the circuit's medical team before returning to action.

Franco Morbidelli: "I am very pleased to have received the medical clearance to start the season. I am eager to try the bike, to return to the dynamics of the races, and to get to know the people of my new team better. This year represents a significant change in my career, and although this incident was unfortunate, it is now in the past, and I want to look forward. I thank the doctors who have been monitoring me, the people who have supported me during these weeks, and a special thanks to Prima Pramac Racing for their support."

The curtain raiser for the 75th World Championship campaign sees the first track action of the season underway on Friday afternoon. Make sure you check out the full schedule for the weekend to ensure you don't miss any of the fun!

How Do You Make Up for Missed Prayers?

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Can I perform qada prayers even if I don’t know the exact date? Also, do I have to pray everything in between again because I prayed without doing my qada, or is it excused?

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

The position of all four Sunni schools is that it is obligatory (fard) to make up all missed prayers, regardless of why they were missed.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Whoever forgets a prayer must perform it when they remember it.”  [Bukhari; Muslim]

Prayer is the first thing we will be questioned about on the Day of Judgement, as the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) informed us in sound narrations.

Date of the Missed Prayers

It is obligatory to make up missed prayers from the past even though you have forgotten when exactly you have missed them. When making them up you simply intend to make up the earlier Zuhr prayer that is still due on you for example. By doing this for each make-up prayer your intention will be valid. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]

Repeating Other Prayers

No, you don’t have to make up prayers that you have already prayed despite having missed prayers beforehand.

There is one exception: if one has less than six prayers in one’s dues, it would be obligatory to maintain the order between them. Praying the current prayer while not making up these previous in order will render the current prayer invalid.

Thus if one has six, or more, prayers (for example Fajr, Dhuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib, ‘Isha, and Fajr) in one’s dues, it would not be obligatory to maintain the order between them. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; ‘Ala al-Din ‘Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-‘Ala’iyya]

Unpacking the Rumor MTG Posted 'Atheists Are Using Satellites to Intercept Prayer to Jesus'

An image authentically showed a post by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on X featuring a flier titled "Christians Against Satellites" and a caption that claimed atheists were using such devices to "intercept prayer to Jesus."

Fake ( About this rating? )

In late February 2023, Snopes received reader inquiries about a purported post on X (formerly Twitter) authored by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. According to the image, Greene — who is a strong believer  of Christianity — shared a flier titled "Christians Against Satellites" and wrote, "The ATHEISTS are using SATELLITES to intercept prayer to JESUS and turn them EVEL (sic)!!!"

The flier in the purported post — which  users   on   X  and TikTok  also shared — read as follows:

Christians Against Satellites The negative impact of artificial satellites and space debris orbiting the Earth: Satellites interfere with our ability to effectively communicate with God. Prayers often collide with satellites and are deflected or destroyed upon impact. Satan uses satellites to intercept and alter prayers before they reach God, resulting in disastrous consequences. Satellites block God's ability to watch us. Satellites interfere with the flight paths of angels. Continued proliferation of satellites causes navigational issues for Jesus and further delays his return to Earth.

However, this was not something Greene shared. The image supposedly showing the post by her was fake.

It was unknown who digitally constructed the image to make it seem like Greene authored such a post. The words claiming that atheists are "using satellites to intercept prayer" appeared to be taken verbatim from X account Pastor Alex Love (@PastorAlexLove) — which shared the same statement, as well as the flier, on  Dec. 10, 2023 , and again on March 1, 2024.

Multiple users  and at least one report  from LGBTQ Nation  claimed  the Pastor Alex Love account posts satire and parody. We reached out to the X account to confirm that description of its output and ask about the fake Greene post. We'll update this report if we receive a response.

This was not the first instance of Greene supposedly doing, or saying something, and Snopes fact-checking whether it had actually happened. For instance, social media posts claimed she once said "Jewish space lasers" may have started California wildfires in 2018. We looked into that assertion here .

What to Do If You Miss Jumu`ah Prayer

Publication : 22-05-2007

If Jumu`ah prayer is missed at the Masjid, should it be prayed as Dhuhr or to be considered Jumu`ah? What is the ruling for men, women, slaves, and the traveller? What was Sheikh Nasir Al-Albany’s opinion about this matter?

Summary of answer

Contents Related

What to do if you miss Jumu`ah prayer?

The view of shaykh al-albani on what happens if you miss jumu’ah, is jumu`ah obligatory on women.

Praise be to Allah.

If a man does not attend Jumu`ah due to a legitimate excuse such as sickness and so on, or for some other reason, he should pray Dhuhr. Similarly a woman should pray Dhuhr. Travellers and desert dwellers should also pray Dhuhr, as is indicated by the Sunnah. During the Farewell Pilgrimage, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood at `Arafah on a Friday he led the people in praying Dhuhr and he did not lead them in praying Jumu`ah, because he did not order the people of the desert (people who live outside cities and towns) to pray Jumu`ah.

This is the view of the majority of scholars, and the view of those who held odd opinions should not be taken into account. The one who misses Jumu`ah deliberately also has to repent to Allah and offer it as Dhuhr prayer. (See Majmu` Fatawa wa Maqalat Mutanawwi’ah li Samahat Ash-Shaykh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) (12/332).

As for the view of Shaykh Nasir Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him), it is in accordance with the view of the majority of scholars on this matter. In his essay Al-Ajwabah An-Nafi’ah (p. 47) he quotes the words of Siddiq Hasan Khan (may Allah have mercy on him): “Jumu`ah is an obligation that Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, has enjoined upon His slaves. If a person misses it for some reason, there should be evidence that Dhuhr prayer is required. The Hadith of Ibn Mas`ud, “If you miss the two Rak`ahs then you should pray four Rak`ahs” indicates that the one who misses Jumu`ah must pray Dhuhr.”

Then Al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) commented on these words by agreeing with them and classing the Hadith of Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) as authentic. Among the things that he (may Allah have mercy on him) said was:

Perhaps the author quoted the Hadith of Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) as evidence even though it is Mawquf because he did not know of anyone among the Companions who disagreed with that. It is supported by the meaning that is understood from the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): “Whoever catches up with one Rak`ah of Jumu`ah prayer has caught up with Jumu`ah.” It is also supported by the report narrated in Al-Musannaf (1/206/1) with an authentic Isnad (chain of narration) from `Abd Ar-Rahman ibn Abu Dhu’ayb who said: I went out with Az-Zubayr on a Friday and he prayed Jumu`ah with four Rak`ahs. This `Abd Ar-Rahman is the son of `Abdullah ibn Abu Dhu’ayb who was mentioned by Ibn Hibban in Ath-Thiqat (6/122/1) who said: He was an orphan who was under the care of Az-Zubayr ibn Al-`Awwam.

The Hadith of Ibn Mas`ud indicates that Dhuhr is the basic obligation, and that it is what is required of the one who does not pray Jumu`ah. This is supported by several things:

  • It is well known that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions used to pray Dhuhr on Fridays if they were travelling, but they would offer it in shortened form.

If the basic obligation on Friday was Jumu`ah prayer, they would have offered the two Rak`ahs as Jumu`ah.

  • `Abdullah ibn Ma`dan narrated that his grandmother said: `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud said to us (women): When you pray with the Imam on Friday, pray as he prays, but if you pray in your houses, then pray four Rak`ahs.” (Narrated by Ibn Abu Shaybah, 1/207/2). Its Isnad going back to the grandmother of Ibn Ma`dan is authentic, but I do not know who she is. It seems that she was a Tabi`i woman, not one of the Companions, but (this report) is supported by what Al-Hasan said, that a woman who attends the mosque on a Friday should pray with the Imam, and that will be sufficient for her. Its Isnad is authentic in the report via Ash`ath from Al-Hasan who said: The women of the Muhajireen used to pray Jumu`ah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and they regarded that as sufficient and did not think that they had to pray Dhuhr as well.

I said: The one who claims that the basic obligation on Friday is Jumu`ah prayer, and that the one who misses it or is not obliged to pray it, such as travellers and women, should pray two Rak`ahs of Jumu`ah, has gone against these texts with no evidence. Then I saw that As-San`ani (2/74) stated something similar and that if a person misses Jumu`ah he must pray Dhuhr according to scholarly consensus, and (Dhuhr) is a replacement for (Jumu`ah).”

Similarly, with regard to women, the scholars unanimously agreed that Jumu`ah prayer is not obligatory for women and that they may pray Dhuhr in their homes with four Rak`ahs on Fridays.

Ibn Al-Mundhir (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Al-Ijma` (no. 52): “They unanimously agreed that Jumu`ah is not obligatory for women .”

The evidence for that is the Hadith of Tariq ibn Shihab (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Jumu`ah is a duty that is required of every Muslim in congregation except four: a slave, a woman , a child or a sick person.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, 1067).

An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Al-Majmu` (4/483): “Its Isnad is authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).”

Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Fath Al-Bari (5/327): “Its Isnad is authentic.” Ibn Kathir said in Irshad Al-Faqih (1/190): “Its Isnad is good.” It was also classed as authentic by Al-Albani in Sahih Al-Jami` (3111).

And Allah knows best.

Travis Kelce Missed Taylor Swift’s Shows in Singapore for an Important Reason

He's a family man after all.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are quite possibly one of the most supportive couples in Hollywood, between Swift attending nearly every one of the NFL star's games while on a world tour and Kelce flying out to Australia days after the Super Bowl to catch one of her shows. But even some things are impossible for the country's number one power couple (who make jetting across the world look like a quick trip down the road).

Swift is currently performing in Singapore for The Eras Tour , but her boyfriend decided to hang back in the States for a very wholesome reason. On Monday, Travis's older brother Jason Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL and Philadelphia Eagles organization in an emotional press conference. Travis sat in the front row, alongside their parents Donna and Ed Kelce, and was captured wiping away tears as his brother spoke about their childhood and growing up together. Despite being thousands of miles apart, Travis kept Swift close during the event by wearing a friendship bracelet with their initials .

“There is no chance I’d be here without the bond Travis and I share,” Jason said through tears. “It made me stronger, tougher, smarter and taught me the values of cooperation, loyalty, patience and understanding.”

Travis also spent some time close to Swift's hometown over the weekend. On Sunday, the brothers attended a fundraiser together in Philadelphia to raise money for cancer survivors, per Page Six .

Swift is set to play six shows total at the National Stadium in Singapore, her last taking place on Saturday, Mar. 9.

During Sunday's show, the singer poked fun at her hair's reaction to the humidity . After the singer's natural curls started to come out, she joked to the audience that her "hair has returned to its factory settings, thanks to the humidity here," she teased. "I'm not complaining. I like it."

After her stint in Singapore, the star will get a long break until May 9 when she heads to Paris for the European leg of the tour. Of course, her new album, The Tortured Poets Department , drops on April 19, so she'll have something else to keep her busy in the meantime.
