Ireland v Bangladesh 2023, ODI schedule: Full fixtures list and match timings | IRE vs BAN 2023

Ireland will play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh - here is the complete IRE v BAN ODI schedule

Ireland will host Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series starting May 9. Here is the complete IRE v BAN ODI schedule, including venues and match timings.

Ireland will clash with Bangladesh, hoping to secure direct qualification for the ODI World Cup later this year. If Ireland were to win all the matches in this series, they will pip South Africa to the final automatic qualification spot. Bangladesh have already sealed their place at the ODI World Cup, slated to be held in India in October-November.

The Irish have chosen a full-strength ODI squad, which is not a surprise considering how vital this is to their World Cup hopes. Andy Balbirnie will lead the side, which also includes Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker and Paul Stirling – all of whom were in form in Ireland’s recent concluded Test against Sri Lanka.

The bowling will be spearheaded by Josh Little, who has enhanced his reputation in the IPL representing Gujarat Titans. Curtis Campher, Craig Young and Mark Adair would also be hoping to be at their best against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh have also named a strong squad, with Tamim Iqbal as captain. Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are also part of the squad. Thus, they will be a tough proposition to tackle, even away from home.

Bangladesh played a three-match ODI series against Ireland not too long away. That ended 2-1 in the Tigers’ favour and they would hope to produce a similar result and dent Ireland’s World Cup automatic qualification hopes.

The first game of the series is scheduled for May 9. The second ODI will take place on May 12, with the final match on May 14. All fixtures will be held at the County Ground in Chelmsford.

Bangladesh Tour of Ireland 2023: Venue, Schedule, Fixtures, Previous Records

  • by banglatv
  • April 16, 2023

Bangladesh is going through a busy schedule in international cricket this year. The tour to Ireland in May is the last series of the ODI Super League cycle. The tour was supposed to take place in 2020. However, it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic situation. Bangladesh will fly to play the ODI away series against Ireland in the upcoming May month. However, the Irish will host the series against Bangladesh at Chelmsford of England, instead of hosting in their own field. Let’s explore some details of Ireland vs Bangladesh ODI series 2023 .

Bangladesh Tour of Ireland 2023 Schedule

The first ODI will be held on May 9 at Chelmsford. The second ODI might be a day-night match on May 12 at the same venue. The third and final match, scheduled on May 14 will again be played in daylight.

The Bangladesh team will also play a warm-up match against Ireland in Cambridge on May 5 before the three-match ODI series.

Why does Ireland Choose England as A Venue to Host Bangladesh?

This series against Bangladesh is very important for Ireland for the 2023 World Cup. If the Ireland cricket team can beat Bangladesh by 3-0, then they will get a chance to play the ODI World Cup 2023 directly. Otherwise, they will have to win the qualifier against Zimbabwe to participate in the World Cup.

And since it’s the rainy season in Ireland, they don’t want the weather to interrupt the game. According to the Cricinfo report, there is a high risk of rain in Ireland in May, and the “English Summer” has been renowned for rainless seasons for ages. That’s why Ireland wants to play in England so that no games get spoiled due to rain. Besides, the Ireland team may believe that matches played in England are more likely to get good results for them.

Ireland is in the 11th position in the Super League with 68 points from 21 matches. Sri Lanka is 10th with 81 points in 24 matches, South Africa is 9th with 98 points in 21 matches, and West Indies is eighth with 88 points in 24 matches. However, West Indies have no more matches left in the Super League.

South Africa had 79 points at the end of the England series recently. But in the last ODI, they deducted a point due to their slow-over rate. It opens the door to new possibilities for Ireland.

According to the calculation, if Ireland beats Bangladesh 3-0, they will also have 98 points. Then the team that will be ahead in run rate will get the opportunity to play the World Cup directly. Currently, South Africa (-0.077) is ahead of Ireland (-0.382) in run rate. So, Ireland will surely try their best to fulfill their plan.

Ireland vs Bangladesh Head-to-Head Records in ODI

After finishing the recent ODI series, Bangladesh and Ireland faced 14 times in total. So far, Bangladesh has won 9 matches, and Ireland has won two matches. Ireland’s last win was in 2010, while Bangladesh’s last win was last month in Sylhet. Out of these 14 matches, two matches had no results.

So, in terms of head-to-head record in ODIs, Bangladesh has a dominant 9-2 lead against Ireland. However, Ireland emerged victorious in their first-ever encounter during the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Final Words

The upcoming Bangladesh tour of Ireland will be a very important series for Ireland as a 3-0 win may lead them to play the World Cup 2023 directly. The Bangladeshis living in the UK will get a chance to watch Bangladesh’s match live on the field after a long time. Since 2010, Bangladesh has not played any cricket matches in England except for ICC tournaments.

India to tour Bangladesh for five-match T20I series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has released the schedule for the upcoming home assignment against India later this month.

India will tour Bangladesh for a five-match T20I series in April-May, starting on 28 April. Three out of the five matches will be day-night encounters, with all the games set to be played in Sylhet.

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to be played in Bangladesh at the end of this year, and the series will play a crucial role in helping both teams prepare for the tournament.

While Bangladesh will look to capitalise on the advantage of playing at home, India will aim to leverage their familiarity with the conditions to their advantage.

In the ICC Women's T20I Rankings, India are placed at the No.3 position while Bangladesh are No.9.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side qualified for this year’s tournament after finishing as one of the top six teams in the last edition in 2023 in South Africa – they made the semi-finals before losing out to eventual winners Australia. Bangladesh earned direct qualification as hosts.

India last toured Bangladesh in July 2023, when they played three T20Is, followed by three ICC Women’s Championship ODIs. While India won the T20I series 2-1, the ODI series witnessed a dramatic shift in momentum.

Bangladesh registered their first-ever victory against India in Women’s ODIs by winning the series opener.

However, the visitors bounced back in the next game, leading to a series-deciding encounter. The last game ended in a tie after Bangladesh bowled India out for 225 in their chase of 226, with just three balls to spare. As a result, both teams ended up sharing the series.

Bangladesh vs Ireland, 2nd T20I - Live Cricket Score, Commentary

ireland tour of bangladesh 2023 schedule

That's all we've got for you today then as Bangladesh sealed the series with another dominant display. Ireland have just one opportunity left to salvage a win from this limited-overs leg. They'll be completely deflated after tonight's performance. That's all we've got for you today, do make sure you join us for the 3rd and final T20I. Take care and goodbye.

Shakib Al Hasan | Bangladesh captain and Player of the Match: Feels good to be on top as a Bangladeshi. We wanted to put up the same performance we did in the past few games and we did it well. If we want to be a great side, we have to go out there and express ourselves from ball one. That’s what we discussed and agreed that’s how we’re going to play. When I batted, it spun when Tector bowled slowly. So I thought that there was something for the spinners and decided to start with spin. If you’re a good team, when you go to Australia or England, they always try to win 3-0 if they’re up 2-0, we’ll try the same. No chance of us being complacent. We might try a few new players but they’ll be just as hungry to do well.

Paul Stirling | Ireland captain: That was a tricky day. Few of the same errors of the previous couple of weeks. We have a lot to work on, we’ll take it easy tomorrow and have a think about it tomorrow and try and come back stronger in the next game. You have to take every game as it comes, it wouldn’t have made a big difference if we went out there trying to put on a show. We have to think about team selection, we’ll have an unused pitch on Friday and hopefully we’ll be one step ahead. I think they’re a very strong team, we probably didn’t think it was going to be this one-sided. There’s no dead-rubber as far as we’re concerned and we want to turn on Friday and show we’re serious.

18:30 Local Time, 13:30 GMT, 18:00 IST: Another game and another day where Ireland have simply been blown away by Bangladesh. We had a delayed start to the game and it was reduced to a 17-over contest but that made no difference in Ireland's fortunes. It all started with the bat as Litton Das and Rony Talukdar unleashed absolute carnage at the top of the order. Das carried on to score a brisk fifty and backed up by cameos from Shakib and Towhid Hridoy, Bangladesh posted a mammoth 202 from just 17 overs. Ireland never got going with the bat either, they lost 3 wickets inside the powerplay and that just sucked all the momentum out. There was no doubt about it being Bangladesh's game thereafter. Campher showed some resistance with a 30-ball 50 and apart from Tector's brisk 22, Ireland didn't have much to write home about. Shakib starred with the ball as well as he claimed figures of 5-22 from his 4 overs to become the leading wicket-taker in all T20I cricket . Ireland have miles to go before the next game on Friday if they are to challenge the hosts.

Taskin Ahmed to Benjamin White, byes, 1 run, low full-toss outside off, White looks to smack that through cover and loses his shape, he ends up missing and the keeper fumbles allowing a bye. Bangladesh claim another massive 77-run win.

Taskin Ahmed to Hume, 1 run, full and fast on middle-leg, it takes a thick outside-edge as it flies towards third man

Taskin Ahmed to Benjamin White, 1 run, dropped! But it doesn't really matter. Length delivery just outside off, White made room looking to carve that over cover and got a thick edge through to Das who ended up deflecting it towards third man

Taskin Ahmed to Hume, 1 run, to mid-on, yorker fired in on leg-stump, Hume manages to dig it out towards mid-on

Taskin Ahmed to Hume, no run, yorker just outside off, Hume clears his front-leg looking to drill it through cover and gets a thick outside edge that goes to the keeper on the bounce

Taskin Ahmed to Hume, no run, full toss on leg-stump, Hume ends up knocking it back to the bowler

Mustafizur to Hume, 1 run, slower ball bouncer on middle, Hume gets on top of the bounce and knocks it down towards deep point

Mustafizur to Hume, no run, full just outside off, Hume looks to slice that over cover and misses

Mustafizur to Hume, no run, low full-toss outside off, driven back

Mustafizur to Benjamin White, 1 run, full on the stumps, clipped to mid-wicket

Mustafizur round the wicket

Mustafizur to Hume, 1 run, off-cutter on a good length outside off, dabbed to backward point

Mustafizur to Hume, 2 runs, a low full-toss outside off, driven to sweeper cover and they take two

Mustafizur Rahman [2.0-0-16-0] is back into the attack

Benjamin White, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Taskin Ahmed to Campher, out Bowled!! Taskin Ahmed lets out all his frustration by roaring after getting Campher. Full and shapes back in late, Campher makes room to drive and misses, the ball crashes into the stumps. Taskin Ahmed ends the over on a good note. Campher b Taskin Ahmed 50(30) [4s-3 6s-3]

India women’s National Cricket Team are all set to tour Bangladesh for the five-match T20I series. The series will be played in April and May with all five games between the teams taking place in Sylhet.

The first match of the series between India and Bangladesh will be played on 28th April. The second game is slated to take place on 30th April. The first two games of the five-match T20I series between the teams will be night fixtures while the third and fourth games will be day games in Sylhet.

The third game will take place on 2nd May followed by the fourth match of the series, to be played on 6th May. There will be a significant gap between the fourth and the fifth game. The five-match T20 series between India women and Bangladesh Women will conclude on 24th May, which will be a night fixture.

The night games between the teams will be played at the main Cricket Stadium in Sylhet whereas the day fixtures held at the outer venue. The evening games will start at 6.30 pm local time while the day games are scheduled to start at 2 pm.

The five-match series between the teams will be an ideal preparation for both India as well as Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup 2024. The event will take place in Bangladesh in September-October. For the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, it will be a great opportunity to get used to the conditions ahead of the big tournament.

The India team will be arriving in Bangladesh on April 23. They will have a good time to prepare for the series. It remains to be who will make it into the Indian squad for the T20I series. It is expected that a few of the performers from the WPL 2024 might get an opportunity in the series.

Here’s the schedule of the series:

• April 28 – 1st T20I (night) • April 30 – 2nd T20I (night) • May 2 – 3rd T20I (day) • May 6 – 4th T20I (day) • May 9 – 5th T20I (night)

This will be India women’s second tour to Bangladesh in the last two years and overall third tour. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had a decent outing last tour as they won the T20I series 2-1. And shared the trophy in ODIs and the series ended on 1-1.

Next time we will have to prepare ourselves for poor umpiring – India women skipper Harmanpreet Kaur

India’s last tour to Bangladesh had a of drama. The poor umpiring cost India women and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t go easy on the officials. During the post-match presentation, she stated that whenever they tour next they need to make sure that they are prepared for poor umpiring. She had said:

“The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we’ll have to prepare ourselves.”

For her comments, Harmanpreet Kaur was then banned for two games by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Even India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana expressed her desire to see better umpiring, saying that there should be neutral umpires for the next tour.
