To campus from I-85

Take Exit 89, North Druid Hills Road. Drive north about 2 miles to Peachtree Road and turn right (north). Drive about 1 mile on Peachtree. Oglethorpe University is on the left.

To campus from I-285

• Take Exit 31-A, Peachtree Industrial Blvd. South and go about 4 miles. The campus is on the right.
• Take Exit 29, Ashford-Dunwoody Road, and go south to the end. Turn right on Peachtree Road. The campus is on the right.

To the museum

Enter campus from Peachtree Road and continue straight through the traffic circle (second exit), keeping the baseball field to your left. Continue straight until you pass Robinson Hall on your right. Immediately after Robinson, make a right and park in the small parking lot directly behind Lowry Hall, where OUMA is located. Walk through the breezeway on the right between Lowry and Robinson and turn left to the quad. Enter Lowry (which also houses the Library) and take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Note: ADA-accessible ramps are available along this route. Upon entering Lowry from the quad side, OUMA can be reached by taking the elevator located to the right.

The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art, located on the third floor of historic Lowry Hall, is a unique venue that can accommodate parties of various sizes. It has been the setting for weddings, receptions, lectures, musical performances, exhibitions, and corporate meetings and gatherings. The museum is comprised of three spaces — the Shelley and Donald Rubin Gallery, the Skylight Gallery, and the Center Gallery.  A single space or the entire venue is available for your unforgettable special event. Using the Map

Berry College Dean named Oglethorpe University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Berry College Dean of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences has been chosen as the Provost for Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.

Oglethorpe University President Kathryn McClymond has named Gabriel Barreneche Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs following a national search. He will join the Oglethorpe administration July 1.

“Dr. Barreneche has a demonstrated commitment to student success, classroom instruction, innovation, and fostering multicultural perspectives,” McClymond said. “I believe with Dr. Barreneche’s appointment and with the help of our faculty, Oglethorpe is well-positioned to being recognized as Atlanta’s premier undergraduate learning experience.”

As chief academic officer and a member of the senior administrative leadership team, Barreneche will oversee all academic affairs and faculty, as well as the Office of the Registrar, Academic Success, Weltner Library, Global Education and the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art.

“Dean Barreneche has demonstrated principled leadership in the Evans School, organizing strategic discussions among the faculty about the school’s direction and purposeful work with students. I am grateful for his kind collegiality and how he has enriched the Berry community during his time as dean,” said Berry Provost David Slade.

In his role at Berry, Barreneche served as the chief academic, administrative and budgetary officer for the Evans School where he supervised 69 full-time faculty in nine academic departments and 17 academic majors. He previously served as Associate Dean for Advising in the College of Liberal Arts at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.

Among his many publications are the co-edited volume “Educational Technology for the Global Village: Worldwide Innovation and Best Practices” and “Reciprocity and Partnership: How Do We Know it Is Working?” which he co-authored in “Reconceptualizing Faculty Development in Service-Learning/Community Engagement.”

A member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Barreneche earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Boston College and his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles.

• Victor Mukhin

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
