Looking for East Coast dog friendly vacation spots and destinations and want to optimize your chances of having ideal weather? We’ve highlighted twelve pet friendly destinations where the average monthly temperatures are perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities!

Pet friendly vacations often involve spending much of your time outdoors. Whether you’re hiking a trail, playing on the beach, perusing the boutiques and galleries of a quaint town, or exploring a new city, your experience is more enjoyable when the weather cooperates.

The problem is that we all know you can’t control Mother Nature! But you can choose East Coast destinations where the weather is more likely to be ideal during your visit.

What Is Ideal Weather?

Everyone has their own idea of what “ideal weather” means. Some like it hot and sunny. Others prefer cool breezes and moody skies. But we can all agree that, when it comes to our pets, high temperatures and humidity can be dangerous.

We’d hate for you to spend your vacation feeling trapped in your hotel because the weather could be harmful for your pet. So we’ve chosen destinations where the high temperatures average between 65 and 75 degrees (Fahrenheit; 18-23 degrees Celsius) during the suggested month to visit.

Let’s get started with our picks for pet and dog friendly vacations in East Coast destinations with ideal weather!

January – Key West, Florida

Our pick for an East Coast destination with ideal weather in January is Key West, Florida. With daily highs in the mid-70s, balmy evenings in 60s, and just 4 days of rain … it’s hard to beat!

Key West is famous for its laid-back, friendly view of life, so it’s not surprising it has a plethora of pet friendly activities . From fantastic beaches to a great selection of pet friendly dining options , it’s a vacation spot that you and your pet will both love.

Pet Friendly Things To Do In Key West

Urban dogs visiting Key West will love hitting the shops, bars, and pet friendly restaurant patios on Duval Street. Nature lovers will enjoy the area’s dog beaches, tropical gardens, and parks that are easy on the paws.

The  Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden  offers over 15 acres of native garden and forest to stroll on trails. And right downtown, discover the mini rainforest and parrot refuge at  Nancy Forrester’s Secret Garden . Residents of the garden include rare plants, a guard cat, and rescued parrots and macaws.

Prefer to explore from the water? You will find several options to charter a boat, kayak, or paddleboard.

And, of course, you need to celebrate Key West’s famous fiery sunsets.  Mallory Square  is filled with entertainers and spectators each evening to bid farewell to the sun. If your dog doesn’t mind crowds, don’t miss it.

For a quieter but just as stunning view of the sunset, head to the  Higgs Beach Dog Park . Your dog will be happy to play with her new friends while you admire the sun’s dip into the ocean.

20 Top Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations for You and Your Best Travel Buddy

Calling everyone who can't bear the thought of not being with your dog for more than 24 hours... here's the perfect guide to exploring the world with your furry companion.

  • Choosing a Destination
  • International

It was mid-2008 when Amy Burkert and her husband Rod found themselves adopting a stray German shepherd . The puppy was found near their home in Philadelphia, and after a few weeks of looking for his family to no avail, they decided to adopt him as their own and name him Buster. The issue? The couple, who at the time had a small dog named Ty, was planning a huge trip up to Canada about a month later and hadn't accounted for two dogs coming along.

Burkert searched online for dog-friendly hotels and dog parks along their route but didn't come up with much. The trip went well, but the experience taught her that other people probably were also looking for the same information.

In 2009, she launched GoPetFriendly.com , a comprehensive pet travel platform that quickly took off. Soon after, she and Rod, both who work remotely for their CPA firm, sold their place in Philly, hit the road in an RV, and haven't looked back since.

"In a few months, we will have been on the road for 11 years," Burkert says, adding that Ty and Buster have sadly passed, and they now have a new pup named Myles. "We love it, and by doing that with our dogs, we are walking the talk."

Since we're all attached to our dogs at the hip, here are some of Burkert's recommendations for how you can bring them along for a vacation.

How to Choose a Dog-Friendly Vacation Destination

Consider your itinerary.

There are many things to consider when traveling with your dog , from where you'll go to how you'll get there to fun activities to do along the way. While in the decision-making phase, Burkert recommends thinking about what you and your dog like to do together first.

"Do you like to go to the beach?" she asks. "What about hiking? Exploring cities? Or sitting at a coffee shop watching people walk by? It's important to think about how much your dog physically can and would want to do and what you'd want to do together."

And be prepared to make a few sacrifices for your four-legged companion. Dog-friendly vacation spots can come in various forms. Taking a road trip with your dog to New York City, for example, may not seem like a good spot because of the population density, but there are actually tons of great green spaces for your dog to play.

"That said, you might consider sacrificing your trip to the Guggenheim if you're with your dog," she says.

Think About Where You'll Stay

Your choice of accommodations is another important thing to keep in mind when planning your trip. While some locations have hotels that allow pets , other destinations with more natural surroundings might require flexible arrangements like renting a unique Airbnb or camping.

"A lot of people think that camping is a wonderful thing to do with a dog on vacation, but not if you're planning on leaving him or her in the camper all day," Burkert says. "That isn't much of a vacation for your pet. Instead, try to find a place that will work for you both."

As you decide the best vacation destination for your family (fur babies included), these Burkert-recommended places both domestic and international might just do the trick.

Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations on the East Coast

Eastern vermont.

Among the places on the East Coast to take your dog on vacation, a place called Dog Mountain in the Eastern Vermont town of St. Johnsbury ranks highly for Burkert.

"The people managing it have turned what was a dairy farm into an off-leash dog heaven," she says. "There is a pond, trails, even a dog chapel."

Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

The town of Jim Thorpe , Pennsylvania, is home to the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway , which offers breathtaking trips through the Pocono Mountains. According to Burkert , the trip is a must for dog owners and is among the best dog-friendly vacation spots in the eastern U.S.

Bar Harbor, Maine

The 5,500-person town of Bar Harbor, Maine on Mount Desert Island is a great place to bring your pet companion, especially if you're interested in hiking at Acadia National Park . This island is the best of both worlds with mountains and sandy beaches within the park, and pet-friendly patios for eating in town. Doggie visitors are encouraged and there are tons of trails both you and your pup will enjoy.

Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations on the West Coast

Bend, oregon.

The 100,000-person town in central Oregon is so obsessed with dogs that they are allowed almost everywhere. Dog-friendly hiking trails are abundant at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, and within the city limits, you'll find many outdoor food carts , food truck parks, and breweries (including the award-winning Deschutes Brewery ), all of which welcome dogs.

San Diego, California

Sunny San Diego is among one of the best dog-friendly vacation spots thanks to its many open areas that accommodate them. If your pup likes to play on the beach, there are plenty of dog beaches and off-leash dog parks in and around this SoCal city. Check out Fiesta Island in Mission Bay, or Morley Field Dog Park in San Diego's famed Balboa Park .

If you're a lover of the sea, take advantage of SD's coastal location and rent a boat or a yacht to let your dog feel the wind in her hair. If you're looking for an activity that will satisfy your pup's competitive nature, catch a Padres baseball game at Petco Park where they have a special viewing area called The Barkyard just for people and their pets.

Northern Arizona

Many people are surprised to learn that Grand Canyon National Park , located in Northern Arizona, is a vacation spot that allows dogs. As Burkert explains , the South Rim is your best bet if you're bringing your furry friend.

Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations in the Midwest

Chicago, illinois.

"I love going to Chicago with dogs ," says Burkert. She suggests checking out the trails along Lake Michigan and exploring Navy Pier, as just a few examples of things to do.

When you get hungry, grab a slice on the patio with your pup at Paradise Park or a pint at Empirical Brewery , which is also home to a colony of beloved brewery cats .

Grand Haven, Michigan

Grand Haven is a picturesque town on Michigan's West Coast loved by tourists and their dog companions alike, mainly for the number of greenspaces and beaches. Grand Haven City Beach is a great place to go with your pup on a warm summer day. The vacation town even boasts the Must Love Dogs Boutique & Spa , a pet-friendly shopping spot where you can bring your pup to sniff around the store.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis is filled with great places to take your dog on vacation, including breweries, outdoor restaurants, and open spaces like White River State Park . The city's growing number of outdoor dining spots that allow dogs makes Indy a no-brainer for foodies bringing along their fur babies.

Dog-Friendly Vacation Destinations in the Southern U.S.

Asheville, north carolina.

The sprawling Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C., allows dogs on its grounds and outdoor patios (but not inside buildings). Still, at more than 8,000 acres to explore, it's absolutely worth bringing along the pooch, especially on a beautiful day. Once you've gotten your steps in stomping around the mansion gardens, the nearby town of Asheville has a ton of pet-friendly activities for the two of you to take on, as well. Check out the street art in downtown Asheville, or sniff out some local goodies at one of the town's many bustling outdoor farmer's markets. After you've gotten your fix of city life, head out to explore the miles of trails in the Blue Ridge Mountains and book a camping spot for your and your furry friend to soak in the sounds of nature.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is one of the most dog-friendly U.S. cities on our list, featuring many pets-allowed restaurants like Brown Dog Deli and Poogan's Porch , named after the friendly neighborhood dog who greeted guests until he passed in 1979.

If your dog wants to live like a princess for a day, Charleston Carriage Works offers historical tours of the city and allows dogs to come along for the ride in style. When you're ready to stretch your legs, check out Charleston's beaches at Sullivan's Island and Morris Island . If the weather isn't favorable, take your dog for a dip in the indoor dog pool at Wag-n-Splash .

Sarasota, Florida

Brohard Beach and Paw Park is among the top places to go in Sarasota if you have a pup in tow. The beach is especially accommodating for pet parents with its dog showers and fire hydrants for puppy bathroom breaks, according to Burkert.

International Dog-Friendly Vacation Ideas

Before you head out on an international adventure with your favorite travel buddy, keep in mind that there can be potential health risks when taking your dog on long flights . It may make more sense to explore the spots where you can safely bring your dog along in the car on a road trip, or even via train travel , before booking a trip to one of these pet-friendly international cities. As always, it's best to talk with your veterinarian about whether it's safe for your dog to accompany you on long flights or to visit other countries. Your vet will help you understand the risks and what you need to know before your pup gets a new passport stamp.

Venice, Italy

While may not be many sprawling greenspaces in Venice, dogs are still welcome in the charming Italian city limits. Pups are allowed in many water boats and are able to stroll the street with you. Just be aware that sometimes the small alleyways can be crushingly busy, so it's best to go in the off-season in November–March so your pup's not overwhelmed with the crowds.

Tokyo, Japan

Japan celebrates six native dog breeds , called the Nihon Ken, which have been designated as national monuments. So as you can imagine, the country is incredibly dog-friendly . Dogs are allowed in hotels, stores, and some restaurants, and there are tons of dog parks for them to run in cities like Tokyo. Some of the best of the capital city include Yoyogi Park Dog Run , Honmoku Sancho Park , and Ueno Park .

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Recognized as one of North America's most dog-friendly cities, Vancouver is well-known as a great destination for dogs and their human counterparts looking for an adventure. While here, make a stop at any (or all!) of the great beaches or off-leash parks throughout the city, and don't miss a day playing at the world-renowned Stanley Park and Arboretum.

When you get hungry, take an afternoon stroll through the Mainstreet Station Farmer's Market on Wednesdays in the summer months. Or explore all that Granville Island public market has to offer, from food to art to some pretty cool historical architecture, any day of the week. Outside of the city limits, Vancouver also has a lot to offer nature lovers, including some of the best hiking you'll ever do in every season.

Asbury Park has quickly become one of the most popular destinations at the Jersey Shore. With a wide selection of trendy restaurants and shops on the boardwalk and downtown, there's something for everyone.

If you're planning an overnight stay, the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel accommodates pets up to 30 lbs. and there are plenty of dog-friendly house rentals. Although the beaches are packed during the summer, dogs are welcome between 6 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. In the off-season (October 1 st through May 15 th ), dogs are welcome on the boardwalk and on the 8th Avenue Dog Beach all day long.

If you're in town during the afternoon, attending "Yappy Hour" at the famous Wonder Bar is a must! There's a fenced-in outdoor area so dogs are free to socialize while their humans enjoy some drinks and mingling of their own. Don't forget to pack some dog treats to reward your pup for playing nice with their buddies!

Grab brunch the next morning at Toast, Johnny Mac's, Cross and Orange, or one of the many restaurants with outdoor seating for you and your dog.

The Asbury Park Convention Hall also hosts many dog-friendly events such as flea markets and craft fairs all year round. They hand-pick awesome vendors—many of which sell doggy products!

#8: Lake Placid, New York

east coast trips with dogs

Lake Placid's setting in the Adirondack Mountains is perfect for outdoorsy dog-and-pet-parent duos in any season—you can go skiing, biking, fishing, and hiking all in one trip.

Stay at the Lake Placid Lodge, which welcomes well-mannered dogs and has beautiful waterfront and mountain views, porches to enjoy your morning coffee, and wood-burning fireplaces for cold nights. They even provide your pup their own bed and homemade treats. Is camping with your dog more your speed? There are dozens of cabins and campsites for RVs, tents, and trailers to accommodate you and your fur buddy.

You will also find several dog-friendly lakes and trails nearby where you and your four-legged friend can explore the great outdoors side by side. Visit Mirror Lake, where you and your fur kid can admire the lake on a 2.7-mile paved trail. Afterwards, take a stroll on the west side of the lake, where several shops will welcome your dog inside while you browse.

#9: Block Island, Rhode Island

east coast trips with dogs

Block Island is a scenic dog-friendly vacation spot that boasts 17 miles of sandy beaches. It's best explored on foot or a bike, which is ideal for active dog parents. Most of the beaches are lenient about furry visitors, but you may want to avoid the main beaches on the east side of the island, which get crowded in the summer.

Leashed dogs are even allowed on the Block Island Ferry, which is a fun route to the island from the mainland. Several inns on the island welcome doggy visitors, along with many vacation rentals. Grab a smoothie at Juice 'n Java—they have water and treats on hand for your fur kid, too.

#10: Stowe, Vermont

east coast trips with dogs

Despite "green" being in its name, the Green Mountains of Vermont are also a must-see when they're covered in bright fall foliage or blanketed in white snow.

The quaint village of Stowe offers miles of hiking trails for all skill levels and several campsites with rustic log cabins, some of which are dog friendly. Our favorite are the Muddy Moose cabins in Morrisville, which are slightly off the beaten path of the quaint shops and restaurants in Stowe village. These cabins allow up to 2 dogs for just an extra $15 per night, and they provide dog bowls and treats for your pups upon arrival.

There are several hiking trails surrounding these cabins, plus a recreation room filled with games, a wood-burning stove, and doggy art—you can really tell that the owners are dog people! Cozy up on the porch with your pup by your feet and coffee in hand while reveling in your mountain view.

Smugglers Notch State Park also offers incredible views of ponds, streams, and waterfalls for you and your four-legged traveler.

Once you crossed these dog-friendly vacations on the East-Coast off your bucket list, plan a trip to the other side of the country with our list of 8 dog-friendly vacation destinations on the West Coast .

Tips and Tricks

Other awesome blogs, the best dog-friendly beaches on the east coast include:, 1. haulover beach park, florida.

Haulover Beach Park is a beautiful area off of Miami Beach’s gorgeous A1A.

Every day of the week, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., you and Fido may join the throngs of beach-loving dogs for some off-leash fun between towers #2 and #3.

Sandy’s paws aren’t for every dog, which is surprising.

If your dog loves to run about on the grass, he may go to the dog park next to the beach.

You may still enjoy ocean views from the gated area as he finds new friends among the palms.

A water station is also available in the park, where dogs can cool off.

Why It’s Perfect For Your Dog:

  • It is the beach for enjoying a sandy beach jog in the morning.
  • Your pup will love diving in the shallow tidal pools surrounded by soft white sand.

2. Wildwood Dog Park and Beach, New Jersey

The Wildwood Dog Park and Beach were created specifically for dogs.

There aren’t many people here, so don’t expect to see them playing Frisbee, or taking up some fetch area.

A big red fire hydrant is Wildwood’s siren call to puppies.

The dog part of the beach is walled in, allowing dogs to run about freely, although they must be kept on a leash while beyond that point.

A sand path leads to the dog run area, which includes shaded areas, agility obstacles, and open areas for fetch.

Pets of all shapes and sizes may enjoy playing in the sand thanks to the distinct zones for large and little dogs.

  • If your dog is an adventurer, seek out the off-leash section of the beach.
  • Drinking water for dogs is easily available.
  • Cool off your dog with one of the dog wash stations available on site.

3. Bald Head Island, North Carolina

Fido will need to don his captain’s hat for the trip to Bald Head Island, our next beach.

Take the pet-friendly boat from Southport to the island and enjoy a relaxing 20-minute journey.

Pets are welcome on the 14 miles of golden beach here, but they must be leashed.

The majority of visitors don’t walk around the island; instead, they ride around on golf carts.

  • The Bald Head Island Conservancy also offers a pet-friendly Island Nature Tour.
  • You’ll visit stunning beaches, a maritime forest, and a salt marsh with your dog.
  • There’s also a dog park on Bald Head Island, another place for your pup

4. Jupiter Beach, Florida

Dogs may run free on more than 2 miles of pure golden beach on Jupiter Beach’s dog-friendly area.

The greatest time to visit Jupiter Beach is during the annual Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic, even though it’s a terrific dog beach all year.

A Bark & Brunch, a dog bikini contest, a vendor village full of unique items for Fido, a blessing of the animals, and a picture opportunity with surfing Santa have all been featured at previous events.

  • Major event: a canine surfing competition.
  • All dogs are welcome to try to stay upright on a surfboard.
  • If your furry friend can’t cut the waves, there will be plenty of surfers eager to take him out for a little ride.

5. Bay View Beach, Maine

Bay View Beach, in the city of Saco , is a genuine gem in the sand, as one of the few pet-friendly beaches in Maine that enables dogs to hang around all day.

The beaches alone are enough to keep two- and four-legged tourists flocking to this picturesque part of New England, which is known as a location that is “friendly by nature.”

From April 1st through September 30th, pets must be on a leash at all times on all beaches.

From October 1st to March 31st they can be off-leash, but trained under voice control.

  • It’s great for a doggie dip because of the lovely white beaches and gently sloping shoreline.
  • Dogs can wander off-leash the remainder of the year and at any time as long as they are leashed
  • Waste bags are available at several Bay View Beach gates.

6. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Outside of Florida, Myrtle Beach is the closest thing to a Florida beach.

Even though Fido must be leashed while on the beach, this renowned resort has earned a position on our list.

A beautiful sandy beach with views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the massive SkyWheel on the other.

Regretfully, during the high season, beach access is limited.

Dogs are welcome to visit Barc Parc South and Barc Parc North, which are both close.

  • Keep the celebration continuing on dry land at the Sneaky Beagle.
  • Dogs may order frozen dog biscuits, chicken and rice, and other snacks from Precious Paws Boutique Store.
  • There are two local dog parks in the area where you can also take your pooch at.

7. Morris Island, South Carolina

We’re sticking in South Carolina for our next dog-friendly beach destination, which is a far cry from Myrtle Beach’s hustle and bustle.

Morris Island, off the coast of Charleston, is a remote, untouched jewel that can only be reached by boat.

While the beach does not have a fenced-in area, your dog is free to join you off-leash if she is under voice direction.

And as long as it is not nesting season for shorebirds!

The beaches run for kilometers down the shoreline, reaching Morris Island Lighthouse, which was built in 1876, when the tide is out.

In the waterways around the ancient monument, you could even see dolphins.

You can make reservations at Adventure Harbor Tours if you don’t have a boat.

  • The Morris Island Tour includes a history of Fort Sumter, the site of the Civil War’s opening shots, as well as a guided tour of the island.
  • You and your canine companion may go shark tooth hunting while learning about the local environment.
  • You can check out the private charter boat tours and bring your companion along

8. Sombrero Beach, Florida

Sombrero Beach, in the Florida Keys, is the ideal spot for you and your closest buddy to unwind and enjoy island life.

In the Keys, sandy beaches are hard to come by, but whether your dog wants to fling sand on the natural beach or splash in the shallow surf (or both), here is the place to take him.

All city parks in Marathon welcome dogs, however, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Free parking is available along the street, as well as shaded pavilions with grills and outdoor baths for people and dogs.

  • Is it true that Fido has always longed to meet Flipper?
  • Make your way to the Dolphin Research Center after a day at the beach to view dolphins and sea lions up close.

9. East Hampton Main Beach, NY

The Hamptons are a well-known beachfront retreat for New York’s upper crust.

Their enormous houses are only a few hours away from the Big Apple on Long Island.

Whether you and your best friend are looking for a luxurious second home or simply visiting, the Town of East Hampton’s pet-friendly beaches are a must-see.

Depending on when you come, the restrictions differ from beach to beach.

Many laws that are suspended during the off-season are reinstated during the peak season, which spans from May 15 to September 15.

Once on the sand, dogs can even go off-leash.

  • This beach is particularly accessible and has easy roadside parking.
  • The beach culture is very respectful and only trained dogs are allowed off-leash

10. Jekyll Island, Georgia

The Golden Isles, off the coast of Georgia, finish off our list of finest east coast dog beaches, and what a spot.

Jekyll Island, one of Georgia’s treasures, has a few dog-friendly beaches, each of which provides something creative and unexpected.

Driftwood Beach lives up to its name, with a plethora of driftwood trees twisting and curling out of the sand in a variety of shapes, giving it a spooky and untamed image.

jekyll island georgia

  • Great Dunes Beach Park, on the other hand, offers a variety of enjoyable activities for four-legged guests, including volleyball, bocce ball, and surfing.
  • The 25 miles of pet-friendly pathways that wind their way around the island allow you to go from one beach to the next.

11. New Smyrna Beach Dunes, Florida

New Smyrna Dunes Park is a 73-acre protected area on the New Smyrna Beach peninsula’s northern point, surrounded on three sides by the ocean.

The Indian River offers a unique combination of habitats as it runs through Ponce Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean: ocean, dunes, river, saltwater marsh, and scrub zone.

To conserve the diverse plant and animal species that call this park home, two miles of elevated paths have been built.

Picnic grounds, an observation tower, and pavilions are also available.

the boardwalk in new smyrna beach

  • Hiking around the park is a favorite activity for nature enthusiasts, and they are welcome to bring their dogs along as long as they are on a leash.
  • This park provides a great opportunity to get close to nature and see a variety of wildlife.
  • The amazing boardwalk is perfect for you to walk on to get fresh air

12. Hampton Beach, New Hampshire

This beach is well-known for its annual Sand Castle Competition, where teams of architects sculpt massive sandcastles.

Dogs are allowed on the beach from October 1 to March 31. Dogs need to be leashed in a retractable leash no larger than 6 feet tall.

Make sure you abide by the rules. Because Hampton Beach is a state beach, there are certain things you can remember to have an amazing time.

Hampton Beach is the perfect place for your family to spend time camping, enjoying activities, great seafood, and a bustling boardwalk.

Why it’s perfect for your dog

a dog swimming in the water

If you’re planning on bringing your dog to the beach, there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind.

First, make sure that the beach you’re going to is actually dog friendly – some beaches don’t allow dogs at all.

Some have restrictions as far as having your dog leashed during peak times which usually includes summers! Unless you plan on going extra early! Double check first!

I recommend checking out the actual city pages of each beach before you plan.

Once you’ve found a suitable beach, it’s important to prepare both yourself and your dog for a day in the sun.

two dogs staring at the ocean

Here are a few tips to make sure that everyone has a good time:

  • Bring plenty of water for both you and your dog, and make sure to take frequent breaks in the shade. Dogs can get dehydrated quickly, especially if they’re playing in the water.
  • Make sure your dog is wearing sunscreen – their skin can burn just like ours can.
  • Bring a towel or some other way to clean up your dog’s messes. Nobody wants to step in sand-covered dog poop.
  • Keep an eye on your dog at all times. There are plenty of things at the beach that can harm them, from jellyfish to broken glass.
  • Check out our blog 15 beach accessories to bring with your dog

This is why we make it a priority to find the best pet- friendly accommodations and things to do, so everyone in the family can experience a vacation together. Here are some of our favorite dog-friendly attractions and accomodations on the East Coast of the USA .

Dog-Friendly East Coast USA

Dog-Friendly Virginia Beach, Virginia

Four-legged friends are always welcome in Virginia Beach no matter the season. You can even bring your furry friend on the beach before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, as long as it’s before 10am or after 6pm. This ensures that your pup is safe, and has plenty of room to play without the crowds of people.

If you aren’t interested in getting sand in every crevice of your dog, try out a brewery. There is just something about a bark and brew. A few favorites are  Commonwealth Brewing and Smartmouth Pilot House. Enjoy a local beer while your dog meets new friends and hangs out on the patio.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of restaurants that offer puppy menus, such as Simple Eats, that have a “Doggie Deck”. You will certainly get your puppy fill here.

Dog-Friendly North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

In North Myrtle Beach , there are at least three parks dedicated solely to dogs. There’s Barc Park South and North, with each offering a different experience for your pup. You can choose to let your pup swim in the lake, chase other dogs, play fetch or just sniff until their hearts are content.

There are also many state parks and gardens that allow you to bring your pet. Vereen Memorial Gardens is a spectacular place to get your nature filled. Of course you can also take your dogs on the beach as long as they are leashed.

One special thing about North Myrtle Beach are the amount of boat rentals and watersports they have available. The best part is, many of the boats are pet-friendly, so you can enjoy a day out on the water with your pup. Check out the Living Large Party Barge for a wonderful experience.

Myrtle Beach

Dog-Friendly St. Simons Island, Georgia

If you are interested in a serene, nature filled vacation with your family including your furry friend, this is the place for you. St. Simons Island is rich in history and culture with so many things to do and see while you are on the island.

You can take a visit to the St. Simons Island Lighthouse, and have your pup run around in the park right below it. With so much area to roam and explore they will never want to leave. You can also go on a few different hikes and trails like the St. Simons Island Trail System or the Alice Richards Botanical Trail.

There are many dog parks on the island as well as restaurants that welcome your four legged friend. You have to try the Half Shell, Brogen’s, or the Sandcastle Cafe and Grill for some of the best seafood around.

Dog-Friendly St. George Island, Florida

St. George Island in Florida is a very special place because it is one of the few coastlines that does not have any hotels built on the oceanfront. This leaves the island with spectacular views and unbothered and inhabited beaches. Your pets will truly love the natural, raw beauty of the island.

If you are feeling adventurous, rent a kayak or paddleboard and hop on with your pup. It will be a balance and trust test for the both of you. You can find rentals at Island Outfitters, Jolly Roger Beach Show or Island Dog Outdoors.

Enjoy a nice dinner on the water with your pet at Paddy’s Raw Bar or the Owl Cafe, or head to the beach and let your dog run until they can’t anymore with the clear coastline.

Dog-Friendly Blue Ridge, Georgia

If your dog loves the outdoors and exploring, Blue Ridge is the perfect place for an off leash hike. Bask in the beautiful mountains as your dog explores all of the land beside your cabin and even inside of your cabin. Between doggy daycares, restaurants, shops and much more, your dog will feel like this vacation was for them.

Check out the Grumpy Old Man Brewing and bring your pet to make a few friends. You can also visit the Brew Ridge Brewery with your pups. Many restaurants feature a pet menu so your furry friend can wine and dine with you. Before heading home, take them into the Blue Ridge Cotton Company to find a souvenir for friends back home.

Blue Ridge

No matter where you decide to travel with your pup, you will have a great time. There is just something so special about having everyone in the family on vacation including pets. Everyone, including furry friends, could use a break every now and then. We hope you find these attractions and accommodations useful and happy traveling!

Important Tips and Tricks with Dogs and Airbnbs

Read everything..

Carefully read the house rules, description of the property, amenities and comments. I can’t tell you how many times I looked at “dog friendly” houses, where a dog had to be crated the whole time or couldn’t go on carpets or only allowed dogs under 25lbs. Do not book a house without carefully reading the whole listing.

Watch out for the fees.

When you search in Airbnb for dog friendly, Airbnb MIGHT charge you automatically for that pet. This means your service fee etc. might go up more then what the owner is charging for the pet fee. This happened to us where the owner was charging us $50 but Airbnb had charged us $60. Take a minute to do the math. See how much it is with a pet vs without one. (This just requires you to click pet and then do it again without clicking pet.) If it is more reach out to the owner before you book.

Communicate

Speaking of owners, email them about pet fees and rules. I have had surprise pet rules come up upon arrival. (Ex. Showed up to an Airbnb where it said to crate the dog and this wasn’t listed anywhere.) I like to have everything in writing just in case things go south.

Other things to look for…

  • Bring some extra sheets to put over furniture and beds just in case.
  • Make sure the fenced in area, is actually fenced in or not shared with another property. I want to let my dog run around freely without having to navigate other dogs and people.
  • Clean up after your dog. Don’t be that person who ruins it for everyone else.

  • Dog Rules : No pet fee but dog needs to be crated while out. She let us borrow hers.
  • Dog Rules: $50.00 pet fee, clean up after dog.
  • Dog Rules: $60.00 pet fee, clean up after dog, not allowed on furniture.
  • Dog Rules: $25 per day per pet.
  • Dog Rules: $75.00 pet fee. There are dogs on property just something to consider.

New Hampshire

  • Dog Rules: $50 fee per dog, must be crated when out of the house and not allowed on furniture.
  • Dog Rules: $100 pet fee and dogs who bark cannot be left unattended which in my opinion is insane. I, unfortunately, will not be staying here again because dogs bark. BUT if your dog is very quiet then it might be a good choice for you.

North Carolina

  • Dog Rules : No pet fee, no pet rules except to clean up after them. Two dog max.
  • Dog Rules: No pet fee and dog must be on leash outside.

Our Picks for an Epic East Coast Road Trip with Your Dog

east coast trips with dogs

After almost a year of restricted travel, most parts of Australia are starting to open up just in time for the summer holidays. Chances are, you and your pet are itching to get out of town. But the thought of embarking on a dog road trip can be overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be though–many animals love jumping in the car and exploring. So if you’re considering setting off together, we have some suggestions for making your favourite holiday activities dog-friendly.

Not sure where to start? Let us suggest a mosey up Australia’s east coast, taking in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane as you go. There’s plenty of swimming, adventuring, eating, and drinking to keep you both busy.

This is our home town, and we think it’s a pretty great city to be a dog (or a dog owner). Famous for its food and dog-friendly café culture , the highlight of a Melbourne trip is often eating. Luckily, with so many venues that welcome your pooch, like the dog-friendly beaches , you won’t have to leave your dog on the curb.

Patch, Richmond

With a walled front courtyard, beautiful interior, and great coffee, Patch has something for everyone. Plus, its proximity to the Yarra River and Burnley Park’s off-leash area makes it a perfect stop on a dog day out.

Dog road trip

The Farm Cafe, Abbotsford

As the name suggests, this cafe is part of the Collingwood Children’s Farm so it’s great for pets and people who love all sorts of animals. After you’ve had a bite you can both stretch your legs at the beautiful Merri Creek trail or walk up to the off-leash area in nearby Yarra Bend Park. 18 St Heliers St, Abbotsford

West Beach Bathers Pavilion, St Kilda

If you’re feeling a little fancy, treat yourself at this century-old local institution. There’s plenty of ocean-side outdoor seating, but the best part is that the beach right in front has an off-leash play spot.

Gourmet Paw p rints

If you have a whole day to spare, you and your dog can book in for a doggy wine tour with Gourmet Pawprints. This Melbourne based company offers curated hikes, walks, picnics, high teas, wine tours, and even truffle hunts designed to be enjoyed with your pets.

Any time spent in Sydney with a dog really has to be focused on the great outdoors. It would be cruel to bring them to this beautiful city and not have as many swims as possible. Luckily, Sydney has more than its fair share of spots to take a dip. Once you’re done visiting these dog-loving beaches , and probably starving, you won’t have to look far for somewhere great to eat.

Sirius Cove, Mosman

One of the nicest things about this beautiful and protected cove is the grassy reserve that borders it. Meaning you can turn your beach day into a park day without having to get back in the car. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach for the whole weekend. But heads up, during the week it’s only off-leash before 9AM and after 4PM.

Dog road trip

Silver Beach, Kurnell

Just down from Greenhills Beach, this quiet spot is beloved for its open space, nearby cafes, playground, BBQ facilities, and great views of Botany Bay. Oh, dogs like it too! With hardly any waves and shallow water it’s suitable for any level of swimmer. Between the third and fourth jetties at Bonna Point reserve it’s off-leash all day. But make sure you don’t wander off course, as dogs are prohibited on other parts of the beach.

Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve, Curl Curl

Now, this is more of a lagoon than a beach, but we doubt you’ll get any complaints from your dog. Especially considering it’s a full-time off-leash spot. They can get in a good run too, thanks to the grassy dunes in the park area. Word of advice though: it’s not great for non-dog swimming.

Cafe Bones, Leichhardt

Open since 2000, Cafe Bones has the honour of being Sydney’s first expressly dog friendly cafe. Even more incredibly, they lay claim to being home to the world’s first café-style dog beverage–the famous Pupaccino™. In the decades since, they’re worked hard at perfecting a pet paradise, and now offer gourmet dog biscuits too.

After all that action, make sure you save some energy and appetite for Brisbane. The city has a lot to offer anyone looking for a relaxed or exciting break. While Melbourne and Sydney pride themselves on food and leisure, Brisbane manages to combine the best of both cities.

Todd & Pup, Moorooka

Ok, let’s pause for a real standout among Brisbane’s many dog-friendly cafes . Not only do these guys have great food, coffee, plenty of space, and pats for your dog–they go beyond with a dedicated dog menu. If you had any lingering doubts over their love, this cute tucked-away spot’s Lady and the Tramp inspired mural and dedicated hashtag #dogsoftoddandpup will cement things.

Goodness Gracious, Graceville

These local roasters take their coffee seriously–not only making sure it’s delicious, but also sustainably produced. Second to coffee, their speciality is dogs. They have a special hang out spot with water, lead hooks, and lots of pals for them to socialise with. They might even be lucky enough to nab a taste of doggy ice-cream.

Mount Coot-tha

Less than 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, Mount Coot-tha is a convenient nature break for you and your dog. The five kilometre track from JC Slaughter Falls to the summit winds through beautiful native bushland, and offers a great chance to stretch your legs after all that driving. But if you’re after something a little cruisier, there are also shorter walks that will allow you to check out the falls and creeks. Although, if you do make it to the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the city. Just make sure your dog stays on-leash.

Dog road trip

Toohey Forest Park

This bushland reserve might only be 15 minutes out of Brisbane, but it can feel like you’re miles away from the hustle and bustle. A popular dog walk among locals, due to all the native wildlife, you’ll need to take care to keep your dog on-leash at all times. The park has several trail options to explore, so you can easily spend as long as you like enjoying nature–and maybe even spot a wallaby or koala.

Dog Road Trip Tips

  • Before you set out, make sure your dog is microchipped and your contact details are up to date.
  • If you’re travelling interstate, check that the laws around driving with dogs don’t vary.
  • Organise a restraint your dog is comfortable with (pet shops offer a wide range). Don’t let your dog wander around the car.
  • If this is your first long trip, get them used to things by taking a few shorter rides to places they enjoy. It’ll help them get comfortable and associate the car with good things.
  • Pay attention to how often your dog usually needs to go to the toilet and plan plenty of stops along the way. In general, stopping every couple of hours to let them stretch their legs is a good plan.
  • No matter how many breaks you take, most dogs will struggle with a whole day of driving. Try break up the trip with overnights in pet-friendly hotels or campsites.
  • Before you start each day, make sure they’ve had a decent amount of exercise. A tired dog will be more relaxed in the car.
  • Purchase a bone or occupier treat for them to chew on across the trip. It will help keep them busy.
  • Don’t forget to pack their bag too. You’ll need to bring: lead, collar, water bowl, food bowl, treats, favourite toys, poo bags, blanket, bed, and any medication they may need. Familiar items like toys and blankets will help them relax.

Finally, it goes without saying, but NEVER leave a dog in a car by themselves. Even on cold days they can be impacted and even die from heat stress.

Plan Your Dog Road Trip Carefully

Road trips are a great activity for the warmer months, but in Australia that means you could also be travelling during bushfire season. Research the areas you’re travelling through and to and make sure that roads are open and towns are welcoming visitors.

3 Best Dog-Friendly Road Trips In The U.S.

Let's ride 😎.

dog in the car

If you’re thinking about taking your pup on a road trip, do it!

Road trips with dogs can be a ton of fun, and your pup will definitely appreciate being included in your vacation plans.

Keep in mind, though, that a huge key to the success of a road trip with dogs is choosing the right dog-friendly destinations to visit along the way. So plenty of pre-planning is essential.

The Dodo did the groundwork for you and rounded up the best dog-friendly road trip routes that stop at the most pup-happy places you’ll find in the U.S. — all without taking up too much driving time.

Dog-friendly California road trip

Dog-friendly road trip route: San Francisco > Yosemite > Los Angeles > San Diego Total time driving: About 11 hours

If you want your road trip to be filled with beautiful sunrises, stunning nature and good food, head on over to the west coast for the road trip of a lifetime. California is a super dog-friendly state, so you’ll have no trouble bringing your pup along for the fun.

San Francisco, California

Take a ride in the famous cable cars, bring your pup to see the sea lions at Fisherman’s Wharf, or let him off his leash at Baker’s Beach. And don’t forget the Golden Gate Bridge, which allows pups to enter after 5 p.m. San Francisco is the ultimate pet-friendly city and should be at the top of your road trip destination list.

Are dogs allowed at Yosemite?

After visiting San Francisco with your dog, you’ll want to head east so you can stay a night in the campgrounds at the dog-friendly Yosemite National Park. While pups are allowed in the park, there are some restrictions on where he can go. He can enter the campgrounds leashed, for example, but he isn’t allowed on most trails. Your pup is allowed on the Wawona Meadow Loop, however, which is 3.6 miles long and has an absolutely beautiful view.

Los Angeles, California

About six hours south of San Francisco (and five from Yosemite), Los Angeles is another must-visit pet-friendly city. There are a total of eight off-leash dog parks and countless dog-friendly restaurants, like Momed and The Fat Dog , and hotels, like The Hoxton in downtown LA. While you’re there, you should definitely check out the dog park located directly below the Hollywood sign, known as Lake Hollywood Park , for some touristy photo ops.

San Diego, California

About two hours south of Los Angeles is sunny San Diego. It’s the perfect city to play beach bum with your pup since there are several dog-friendly beaches to choose from, like Ocean Beach and Fiesta Island on Mission Bay. And what’s awesome is your pup is allowed to go leash-free at these beaches, so he can run around to his heart’s content.

Pacific Coast Highway

While traveling along the west coast, you’ll be taking the famous Pacific Coast Highway, which goes from San Francisco to San Diego and is one of the most scenic roads in the country. Some must-visit pit stops along the way include Big Sur (where you can camp with your pup along the famous misty coastline) and Carmel-by-the-Sea, which is a super quaint, dog-friendly seaside town you’ll find totally adorable.

Dog-friendly Southwest road trip

Dog-friendly road trip route: Las Vegas > Grand Canyon > Albuquerque Total time driving: About 10 hours and 30 minutes

Going to the desert can be a super fun vacation and can be even better when you bring your pup with you. It can get pretty hot in the summer, but in the cooler months, it’s a great destination if you plan on spending time outside. The amazing rock formations, vast lakes and other natural wonders will make for beautiful memories.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas can be a really fun place to take your pet. While it’s known for the Vegas Strip, there’s also a ton of nature activities you and your pup will love, like hiking the River Mountains Loop Trail or kayaking on Lake Las Vegas. Dogs are only allowed on the strip between 5 a.m. and noon, and you can give your pooch a taste of the high life with a trip in a pet-friendly limo .

Grand Canyon, Arizona

About four hours east of Las Vegas is the Grand Canyon, which is arguably one of the most beautiful areas in the country where pups are welcome (to an extent). Dogs are allowed on trails above the South Rim, plus in plenty of campgrounds onsite.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the nation. It has a total of 14 dog parks, plus tons of lodging and dining spots where you can bring your pup, too. The La Luz Trial is also dog friendly and has incredible mountain views both you and your dog will really enjoy. Just head east for about six hours on Route 66, and you’ll be ready to take on the city!

There are so many fun stops along the way on Route 66 that are perfect for pups, too. When traveling to Albuquerque from the Grand Canyon, make sure to take a pit stop in pet-friendly Flagstaff, Arizona , and the Petrified Forest National Park in Holbrook, Arizona.

Dog-friendly East Coast road trip

The North East has so much history that you’ll always have something to do. And they really love pets there, so your pup will feel super welcome the entire time.

Dog-friendly road trip route: D.C. > Philly > NYC > Boston Total time driving: About 8 hours

Washington, D.C.

Your dog will love D.C. And you will, too! With so many national monuments, you’ll have endless photo opportunities. Don’t forget to visit the National Mall as well as the Tidal Basin, which has a ton of beautiful cherry blossom trees in spring.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Just three hours north by car (or two hours by train) from D.C., Philly is one of the best places for you (and your dog!) to get cultured in U.S. history. You can take your pup to visit Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell (you can’t bring your pup inside, only outside around the buildings), plus go on one of many historical walking tours that are totally dog friendly.

New York, New York

After just two hours driving north from Philly, you and your pup will find yourselves in the Big Apple. You’ll obviously want to hit up Central Park while you’re there, which has over a mile of green spaces and 23 off-leash areas where your dog can roam between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Other popular dog-friendly activities include walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and taking a ferry past the Statue of Liberty.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is another super dog-friendly city that is full of historical landmarks and trails. Like the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail that lines the city and allows pups. Or you can check out the Boston Commons, which is the oldest urban park in the U.S. (and even has some off-leash areas, too).

If you’re going on a road trip with your pup, save some time planning for the trip and make the most of your vacation by following one of the routes above.

I know only training places in park. There is a place in Sokolniki park, but can be crowded and not touristic. https://dressirovkasokolniki.ru/kinologicheskiy-centr-sokolniki.htm

The dog training place is about 20 minutes walk from the entrance.

Oakland Athletics

Oakland athletics | oakland a’s on a roll heading into challenging east coast trip, the a’s are 7-4 in their last 11 games as pitching, defense have improved after 1-8 start to the season.

east coast trips with dogs

It’s barely a month into the season, but the A’s are one of the biggest surprises – and mysteries – in the majors.

While the dark cloud of their impending move to Sacramento next season and then Las Vegas as soon as 2028 looms over the franchise, the A’s have provided some light on the field with a somewhat surprising 8-11 start.

Now comes a challenging 10-game East Coast trip that begins Friday in Cleveland that could go a long way in providing a clearer picture of what the rest of the A’s final season in Oakland might look like.

Even with some encouraging signs, the A’s have their work cut out for them. Their run differential of minus-22 is the fifth-worst in the majors, and they are projected to finish with 90 losses, according to the latest from FanGraphs.

But as of Thursday, they had more wins than preseason playoff contenders the Astros and Twins, and as many as the Giants. Last season, with largely the same roster, the A’s didn’t win their eighth game until May 6. That was their 34th game in a season that saw them finish 50-112.

It seemed like more of the same when the A’s lost their first three games this season and seven of their first eight. But they are 7-4 since, including a road series win against the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers.

This trip will be even more challenging and perhaps more telling.

Cleveland and the New York Yankees, a four-game series on the second stop, are division leaders. Then they cap the trip next weekend with three games in Baltimore, where the Orioles are nipping at the Yankees’ heels in the A.L. East and might be the best team in the American League.

Overall, the A’s play 20 of their next 30 games on the road. The 4-2 trip through Detroit and Texas last week was just their third winning trip since 2021.

“We’re playing great baseball right now,” A’s starter Paul Blackburn told Martin Gallegos of MLB.com after Oakland concluded its most recent homestand with a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. “The energy is at an all-time high right now for us. It’s not just coming from guys that are in the game. It’s coming from everyone. It’s definitely a group effort right now, and it shows.”

– The A’s didn’t have a whole lot of leads to protect a year ago, but still managed to tie for the fifth-most blown leads in the majors with 42, including four in the ninth inning.

The bullpen has been much more consistent so far this season, and Mason Miller is emerging as a lock-down closer.

Miller has not allowed a run in his past six appearances after allowing two in the ninth inning of an already out-of-hand 12-3 loss to Cleveland.

Since that season debut, Miller has pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits, three walks with 16 strikeouts. He’s 4-for-4 in save opportunities.

Not only is the 26-year-old right-hander effective, he’s been electric. Miller leads the majors with 64 pitches of at least 100 mph – White Sox reliever Michael Kopech is second with 32. Miller retired the final out of Wednesday’s win by throwing a 102-mph fastball past Brendan Donovan, one of nine pitches of at least 100 mph he threw in the ninth.

– Much of the A’s success in the past two weeks has been the result of better pitching and defense.

After being outscored 49-19 in the first eight games – when they went 1-7 – A’s pitchers have a combined 2.64 ERA over the past 11 games.

The defensive turnaround has been even more impressive. After the A’s committed 13 fielding errors in the first five games, they have made just four in their past 14 games.

– Spring training statistics typically don’t mean much, but in Blackburn’s case, his 13 ⅔ innings scoreless streak to break camp proved to be a good indicator of how locked in the veteran right-hander was to start the regular season.

Blackburn allowed his first runs of the season on Wednesday, his fourth start. He stretched his Oakland franchise-record scoreless streak to 22 ⅓ innings before allowing three runs in the fourth inning against the Cardinals.

Matt Keough had held the consecutive scoreless innings to open a season by an Oakland pitcher with 16 in 1980.

– Clearly, much has changed for the A’s since they opened the season against the Guardians. Oakland lost three straight before Abraham Toro’s walk-off walk salvaged the series finale.

Since then, the Guardians lost ace Shane Bieber to season-ending Tommy John elbow surgery, but have barely missed a beat.

Offensively, the Guardians have been receiving a huge spark from Fremont’s Steven Kwan, who is emerging as one of the top leadoff hitters in the game. He’s opened the season with a .376 on-base percentage and has reached base (and has a hit) in 15 of his first 18 games. He’s only walked three times, but was too busy racking up 29 base hits, second to only the Astros’ Jose Altuve and the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani after Thursday night.

–  With fans frustrated and devastated about losing their team, it’s no surprise attendance at the Coliseum has been abysmal.

The A’s have had an announced attendance of more than 10,000 once – Opening Day – and are averaging 6,244 fans through their first 13 home games. They played before a season-low crowd of 3,296 in a loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday night.

The A’s played before an average crowd of more than 26,000 on their opening trip. They’ll face even bigger crowds on this one – the Guardians and Orioles are averaging more than 22K per home game and the Yankees are averaging nearly 40K per home game, second in the majors to just the Dodgers.

– Barring weather cancellations or injuries, the A’s likely will face the Orioles’ top two pitchers – Saint Mary’s College product Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez as well as former A’s left-hander Cole Irvin.

Moscow Water Dog

The Moscow Water Dog , also known as the Moscow Diver , Moscow Retriever or Moskovsky Vodolaz , was a little-known dog breed derived from the Newfoundland , Caucasian Shepherd Dog and East European Shepherd . It is now extinct, but was used in the development of the Black Russian Terrier . [ citation needed ] The Moscow Water Dog was produced only by the Red Star Kennels, the state-operated organization chartered to provide working dogs for the armed services of the Soviet Union. The breeding program was discontinued as the dogs would attack drowning victims instead of saving them. [ citation needed ]

After World War II , there were very few working dogs in the Soviet Union , as many had been killed during the war. Some were imported but there were not enough to establish a dedicated breeding programme for a specific breed. The Central Military School of Working Dogs (the Red Star Kennels), under the command of Colonel G. P. Medvedev began working on developing a number of its own specialised breeds by crossing the available stock. [1] A few breeds were established, including the Moscow Newfoundland, a cross of the German Shepherd Dog and the Newfoundland; the Moscow Great Dane, using the German Shepherd Dog and the Great Dane ; the Brudasty Hound, which was an Airedale Terrier and Russian Hound cross; the Moscow Watchdog , [2] a combination of the St. Bernard and the Caucasian Shepherd Dog ; and the Moscow Water Dog. The most successful breed to come out of the programme was the Black Russian Terrier , [3] [4] which gained international recognition in 1984; it derived from a combination of 14 different breeds, including the Moscow Water Dog in the later stages of its development. Most Beautiful Metro Stations in Moscow

Most Beautiful Metro Stations in Moscow

Visiting Moscow? Get yourself a metro card and explore Moscow’s beautiful metro stations. Moscow’s world-famous metro system is efficient and a great way to get from A to B. But there is more to it; Soviet mosaic decorations, exuberant halls with chandeliers, colourful paintings and immense statues. Moscow’s metro is an attraction itself, so take half a day and dive into Moscow’s underground!

The best thing to do is to get on the brown circle (number 5) line since the most beautiful metro stations are situated on this line. The only exception is the metro stop Mayakovskaya one the green line (number 2). My suggestion is to get a map, mark these metro stops on there and hop on the metro. It helps to get an English > Russian map to better understand the names of the stops. At some of the metro stops, the microphone voice speaks Russian and English so it’s not difficult at all.

Another thing we found out, is that it’s worth taking the escalator and explore the other corridors to discover how beautiful the full station is.

Quick hotel suggestion for Moscow is the amazing Brick Design Hotel .

These are my favourite metro stations in Moscow, in order of my personal preference:

1. Mayakovskaya Station

The metro station of Mayakovskaya looks like a ballroom! Wide arches, huge domes with lamps and mosaic works make your exit of the metro overwhelming. Look up and you will see the many colourful mosaics with typical Soviet pictures. Mayakovskaya is my personal favourite and is the only stop not on the brown line but on the green line.

2. Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya metro station is famous for its yellow ceiling. An average museum is nothing compared to this stop. Splendour all over the place, black and gold, mosaic – again – and enormous chandeliers that made my lamp at home look like a toy.

3. Novoslobodskaya Station

The pillars in the main hall of Novoslobodskaya metro station have the most colourful stained glass decorations. The golden arches and the golden mosaic with a naked lady holding a baby in front of the Soviet hammer and sickle, make the drama complete.

4. Prospect Mira Station

The beautiful chandeliers and the lines in the ceiling, make Prospekt Mira an architectural masterpiece.

5. Belorusskaya Station

Prestigious arches, octagonal shapes of Socialistic Soviet Republic mosaics. The eyecatcher of Belorusskaya metro station, however, is the enormous statue of three men with long coats, holding guns and a flag.

6. Kiyevskaya Station

The metro station of Kiyevskaya is a bit more romantic than Belorusskaya and Prospect Mira. Beautiful paintings with classical decorations.

7. Taganskaya Station

At the main hall Taganskaya metro station you will find triangle light blue and white decorations that are an ode to various Russians that – I assume – are important for Russian history and victory. There is no need to explore others halls of Taganskaya, this is it.

8. Paveletskaya Station

Another and most definitely the less beautiful outrageous huge golden mosaic covers one of the walls of Paveletskaya. I would recommend taking the escalator to the exit upstairs to admire the turquoise dome and a painting of the St Basil’s Cathedral in a wooden frame.

It’s absolutely beautiful! Moscow is a great city trip destination and really surprised me in many ways.

My partner and I did a self guided Moscow Metro tour when we were there 2 years ago. So many breathtaking platforms…I highly recommend it! Most of my favorites were along the Brown 5 line, as well. I also loved Mayakovskaya, Arbatskaya, Aleksandrovski Sad and Ploshchad Revolyutsii. We’re heading back in a few weeks and plan to do Metro Tour-Part 2. We hope to see the #5 stations we missed before, as well as explore some of the Dark Blue #3 (Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bul’var, for sure), Yellow #8 and Olive #10 platforms.

That’s exciting Julia! Curious to see your Metro Tour-Part 2 experience and the stations you discovered.

Malibu’s Most Exclusive, Butt-Kicking Spa Is Coming East

The Ranch, which specializes in long hikes, communal vegan meals and snacks of precisely six almonds, is opening an outpost in the Hudson Valley.

Seen from the air, a large stone manor house sits on a lawn bordered by large trees with a lake in the background and mountains beyond.

By Danielle Pergament

You will wake up at 5:30 a.m. and stretch for 30 minutes. You will eat something vegan and organic for breakfast followed by an hourslong hike on which you will hear words like “verticality.” If you need a snack, you will get six almonds. Not seven — don’t be gluttonous.

In the afternoon, you will take a cold plunge, dunking yourself in water cooled to a painful 55 degrees. The throbbing in your body is not a hangover — there is no alcohol — it’s from the 10 miles you hiked yesterday, or it could be the 12 you hiked the day before. Or maybe it’s the 1,400 calories a day allotted. For all this, you will pay thousands of dollars.

This is luxury wellness in 2024. Some destination spas and high-end retreats are more akin to Navy SEAL prep — or at the very least, basic training — than five-star resorts.

The standard-bearer of this group is the Ranch, 200 acres of nature and trails in the Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu, Calif. For 14 years, the Ranch has been helping 25 people at a time destress, detox and generally rid themselves of the anxieties of life.

“It’s not like any other place,” said Gillian Steel, 69, who sits on the board of the New-York Historical Society and has been to the Ranch nine times. The Ranch, she said, “isn’t just a week-away experience. They manage to be both stylish while pushing you. You meet the most interesting people and get a week to yourself at the same time.”

In late April, the Ranch will open a second property, this time in the Hudson Valley of New York.

“For years, our guests kept saying, ‘Please open something on the East Coast,’” said Sue Glasscock, who owns the Ranch with her husband, Alex, both 60. “We kicked the idea around for a long time.”

They eventually found a lakeside estate on 200 acres of forests and trails flanked by state parks near the New Jersey border in the town of Sloatsburg, N.Y. The house, a 40,000-square-foot stone mansion previously known as Table Rock estate, was built in 1902 by J.P. Morgan. (It was a wedding present to his daughter and new son-in-law, the great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton, and was later owned by an order of nuns .)

“It’s an hour from Manhattan, which is just crazy to me,” said Ms. Glasscock.

To the mountains

I met the Glasscocks for lunch at their home at the Ranch Malibu. In the foreground, three bowls of warm cabbage soup, topped with crispy kale and microgreens. In the background was the entirety of the Santa Monica Mountains, and just beyond, a glimmering streak of the Pacific. It was hard not to feel healthier, calmer and more sustainable just being there.

“We don’t think of ourselves as a spa — we never have,” said Mr. Glasscock. “To be honest, I don’t like the word wellness.” Before opening the Ranch, the couple bought and remodeled houses and designed gardens.

The natural world — both in Southern California and the Hudson Valley — is the most important amenity at the Ranch. “Nothing we do is trendy,” said Ms. Glasscock. “The point is that you’re in nature. You’re eating food from the garden, you’re drinking more water, you’re sleeping more, you’re taking time off your devices. And you’re playing.”

Play, she said, is a proven aid to longevity and something adults don’t do enough. At the new location, a hill in the backyard will give guests a chance to go sledding in the winter. “The Ranch is basically like camp for grown-ups,” she said.

But grown-up camp doesn’t come cheap. The Ranch Malibu has a six-night, seven-day minimum and can cost more than $9,000 a week, depending on the package. The price of a stay at the Ranch Hudson Valley will range from $2,575 per person (three nights, double occupancy, low season) to $6,900 per person (four nights, single occupancy, high season). With high prices comes exclusivity.

“It’s hard,” said Mr. Glasscock. Part of the impetus for opening in the Hudson Valley, he said, was to give people the option to come for three days. “Obviously, that lowers the cost, and still gives people time to reconnect to nature.”

From weight loss to longevity

As wellness has gone mainstream, places like the Ranch have played a pivotal role in changing the definition of destination spas.

“In the U.S. in the last 10 or 20 years, destination spas were focused on weight loss and fixing bad habits like alcohol, coffee, smoking and eating too much meat and sugar,” said Linda Wells, the founding editor of Allure magazine and the editor of Air Mail Look , a beauty and wellness newsletter (to which I have contributed). “But the experience boiled down to getting weighed and measured on Day 1 and again on departure day, with a report card of pounds and inches lost at the end. Weight loss and flat abs were the goal, not health — and definitely not longevity.”

But wellness evolved. Even in light of recent controversies , one of the most popular podcasts on Spotify is still “Huberman Lab,” in which a Stanford University neurobiologist discusses cold exposure, sleep hygiene and circadian rhythms. And an increasing number of spas offer an array of high-tech, often medicalized programs .

Other pricey destination spas also take the boot camp approach. There is Golden Door in California, Mii Amo in Arizona, and Miraval and Canyon Ranch , both of which have several outposts. All of these combine spa treatments, exercise programs, special diets and the promise of resetting to a healthier lifestyle. But the Ranch is singular in its simplicity. There are vegan cooking classes, energy healing sessions and infrared saunas, but don’t expect Botox or filler injections.

“I’m not against those things,” said Ms. Glasscock. “It’s just not in our ethos.”

The Ranch is also extremely luxurious and deliberately communal. Arrival and departure dates are set according to weekly packages, so guests see the same faces for a week. Activities — including the daily hikes — are done as a group. And there is only one dining table, so you eat all meals with the rest of the guests.

“I was expecting meditation, heads down, keep to yourself, but it’s not that at all,” said Jillian Spaak, the director of a real estate investment company who lives in Southern California and first went to the Ranch 10 years ago when she was getting divorced. “You’re communing with other people, you’re hiking together, and you’re all eating meals at the same table. You go through peaks and valleys — literally — and you’re all there for the same reason: to feel better, to look better, to be better. ”

“We want to take what we consider the important aspects of health, wellness and longevity and immerse everyone in all of them for a week or three days,” said Ms. Glasscock. “Most people want a silver bullet, but there is no such thing.”

Middle East latest: 'Unknown airstrike' on Iraqi military base; Iranian minister downplays Israeli attack

Injuries and "material losses" have been reported after a large explosion at a military base in Iraq. Meanwhile, Iran's foreign minister dismissed the apparent Israeli attack as ineffective in an interview with Sky News' US partner NBC News.

  • Live reporting by Narbeh Minassian

Details remain unclear around the explosion at the Iraqi military base, which houses a group sponsored by Iran.

The blast at the Kalsu base, which killed one member of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces, is under investigation.

Speaking from Tel Aviv, Sky's international correspondent Alex Rossi noted it is "interesting" the US has already denied any responsibility.

The blast comes one day on from an attack on Iran - widely believed to be from Israel.

"I think what it really speaks to is the fact that although the direct confrontation that we've seen in this phase between Iran and Israel may be over, there are still significant tensions in the region," Rossi said.

"In terms of that direct confrontation, I think the indications we're getting from both sides is that they don't want this to escalate anymore and that's reflected in the language that they are using."

There are still "significant flashpoints", he added, with daily exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah and the ongoing offensive in Gaza.

But it is unclear if the incident in Iraq is related to a so-called shadow war between Iran and Israel.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry reports 34,049 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since 7 October, with 76,901 wounded.

The new figures come as the health ministry claims 37 Palestinians have been killed and 68 injured in the past 24 hours.

The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and fighters in its reports, but says most of those killed are women and children.

The Israel Defence Forces has said it "attacked targets" overnight in the Beit Hanoun area in northern Gaza.

In a post on X, the IDF claims it initiated the attack after a "launch" crossed from Beit Hanoun towards the city of Sderot in southern Israel.

That attack, it says, was intercepted.

Over the past day, the IDF says its air force has attacked "dozens" of targets, including "armed terrorists, military infrastructures and military buildings".

One member of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces has been killed and eight wounded during the overnight explosion at its Kalsu base, according to a military statement.

As we reported earlier (see 7.32am post), the cause of the blast at the facility is still unconfirmed, although sources have claimed it came from an unknown airstrike.

The military says there were no drones or fighter jets detected in the air space around the area before or during the blast.

A committee has been formed to investigate what happened.

In a world-first interview, a senior Hezbollah figure has told us violence will not stop until the war in Gaza ends.

Ibrahim Moussawi, a Hezbollah spokesperson, also warned Israel "will see results" if they continue provoking Iran.

And he said the responsibility for ending the war lies with the West.

"In order to reach an agreement, they have to stop the aggressor," he said.

"They have to stop Netanyahu and this bunch of idiots who are in the occupied Palestine to stop their genocidal war."

Hezbollah warns against provoking Iran

He added they do not want to see a "comprehensive confrontation" but "if it is imposed, they see and we will see the kind of results that will unfold".

He also played down the strikes against Iran yesterday, claiming he has "never heard of such a thing" and he had "heard it in the news".

"My understanding is that the Israelis, up till now, they want to save their face," he said.

For the full story, read the article below...

Iran's foreign minister has questioned if Israel was behind Friday's attack on the country.

Iran said its air defences destroyed three drones and reported no damage or casualties - though Sky's military analyst Michael Clarke said Israel almost certainly used ballistic missiles, rather than drones.

Speaking to our US partner network NBC News, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian claimed drones took off from within Iran and only flew a few hundred metres before being shot down.

The foreign minister added they were "more like toys that our children play with" than a serious threat, as he sought to play down the threat.

Israel hasn't commented but is widely believed to be behind the strike targeting an airbase and nuclear site near Isfahan.

"It has not been proved to us that there is a connection between these and Israel," Mr Amir-Abdollahian added.

A blast at an Iraqi military base came from an airstrike from an unknown source, two security sources have told Reuters news agency.

Injuries and "material losses" have been reported after the explosion at the Kalsu facility in the city of Babylon, which is about 30 miles (50km) south of the capital Baghdad.

A US official said it wasn't caused by American military operations.

The base is used by Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an umbrella group of dozens of armed groups, and is home to its chief of staff.

One PMF fighter was killed and six were wounded, according to sources at the nearby hospital in Hilla.

Video appears to show explosion

The group did not confirm any deaths in its initial statement, adding: "An explosion occurred at the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces at the Kalsu military base in the al Mashrou district on the highway, north of Babil Governorate.

"An investigation team immediately arrived at the scene, and the explosion caused material losses and injuries.

"We will provide you with the details once the preliminary investigation is completed."

Factions within the PMF took part in rocket and drone attacks on US forces in Iraq in the early months of Israel's Gaza offensive.

However, the group stopped the attacks in early February.

Welcome to our live coverage of the Israel-Hamas war and wider tensions in the Middle East.

Today we'll be watching for further reaction to an apparent Israeli attack on Iran in the early hours of Friday.

Both sides appeared to downplay the strike, with Iran initially saying it was an "infiltration" rather than an attack.

It also claimed drones had been used - although our military analyst Professor Michael Clarke said it was almost certain ballistic missiles were used.

He explained both sides are trying to "save face", with neither wanting an escalation.

Comments from Iranian officials in the aftermath suggest Tehran is unlikely to retaliate.

Overnight, an explosion was reported at an Iraqi military base, with the cause still unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, the US has remained tight-lipped on the matter - something that raised questions over whether this is part of a de-escalation strategy.

Before we bring you today's news, here are more updates from the last 24 hours:

  • A man was arrested at the Iranian consulate in Paris after threatening to blow himself up - although it was later discovered he was not carrying any explosives
  • Worshippers in Iran's capital chanted "death to Israel" after Friday prayers, in a demonstration hours after the apparent Israeli strike
  • The Met Police issued an apology after two of its officers were criticised for threatening to arrest a Jewish man near a pro-Palestinian march
  • Airlines changed their flight paths, cancelled flights and diverted others to alternate airports following Israel's attack on Iran
  • Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy appeared to criticise a double standard from Western allies, saying Israel was not left to fend for itself when attacked.

An Israeli retired major general has said he doesn't believe Israel's overnight attack on Iran is a "very significant event".

Major General Giora Eiland, the former head of the Israeli National Security Council, said the strike showed Israel can reach "even sensitive places" but it had tried to "do it way that both sides can be satisfied".

He told Sky's World with Yalda Hakim programme that he doesn't "predict real escalation after this".

Asked whether Israel's message had been received in Iran, he said countries will try to emphasise their success and minimise the success of the other side.

He added that in attacking Israel, Iran had created an international coalition against itself - "something they certainly don't want to see".

We've been hearing from our military analyst Professor Michael Clarke , who says the overnight attacks on Iran appear to be the Israelis "going after certain targets directly linked to n[Tehran's] attack last weekend".

It's not been confirmed yet, but he says Israel almost certainly used ballistic missiles - rather than the drones than Iran says were used.

"The Iranians have an interest in saying it was almost certainly a one-off attack, it was drones, it didn't matter," Professor Clarke says.

This "relieves them of the responsibility of being so outraged they have to do something even more decisive", he says.

Both sides are now "trying to save face".

Professor Clarke says Israel wanted to carry out an attack, but not one that would upset its allies too much.

Meanwhile Iran is being "careful not to overplay" Israel's attack.
