EA Sports PGA Tour Arrives on EA Play List, Included with Game Pass

EA Sports PGA TOUR is coming to Game Pass and the EA Play List on Thursday April 4, just ahead of the Valero Texas Open. PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and EA Play members that haven’t purchased the game already can download the game for free with subscription . (UPDATE: 4-4) Today is the day.

The announcement comes at a perfect time as the latest update for the game arrived earlier today adding Jack Nicklaus to the roster, four additional courses and much more . Not only did the team add the signature swing for The Golden Bear and the  Augusta National Par 3 course , they also added Valhalla, Pinehurst No. 2 and Royal Troon for a total of 39 playable courses and 23 playable pro golfers.

Later this week, EA Sports will be officially releasing its newest hit golf video game, known as the PGA Tour Road To The Masters. EA Sports touched on a variety of important details leading up to the games’ launch so far, including where it will be available to play on. And as you can imagine, some Xbox Game Pass members are likely wondering whether their subscription-based service will have the EA Sports PGA Tour video game in its catalogue as well?

A couple of things to be aware of about Xbox Game Pass, is one, sports games won’t always be featured on it. And two, should there be any new sports games coming to Game Pass, it can take weeks if not months before they arrive. This was the case with Madden 23, for example. Released by EA Sports on August 19, 2022, Madden 23 wasn’t added to Game Pass until February 9, 2023.

Though that was the case for Madden 23, it wasn’t for MLB The Show 23, which launched with Xbox Game Pass on March 28. So in short, it will ultimately vary which sports video games will make it on Xbox Game Pass. And with EA Sports PGA Tour set to go live this week, many want to know if it will be on Game Pass.

Unfortunately the answer is no. EA Sports PGA Tour is not available on Xbox Game Pass and won’t be for the foreseeable future. EA Sports has yet to make any statement on whether the new PGA Tour video game will be on Game Pass later this year, something that’s not even reflected on their FAQ page .

Though it took a while for Madden 23 to make it to Game Pass, it ultimately did make the cut (albeit months later), and that could very well be the case for EA Sports’ PGA Tour as well.

Since the game will only be available on current generation consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC), it very well might not make it on Game Pass seeing that Xbox One players wouldn’t even have access to it. Should you want to play the new EA Sports PGA Tour video game, you would need to purchase a copy.

EA returns to the world of golf with a challenging and rewarding title that's let down by a couple of inconsistencies and an underwhelming swing mechanic.

EA Sports PGA Tour is unlike any other golf game I've played. It still features familiar elements from the series' past--back when Tiger Woods was front and center--such as slow-motion heartbeat moments and climactic power shots. But after an eight-year hiatus from the world of golf simulation, EA has returned to the fairway with a more demanding recreation of the sport that's as much about feel as it is mastering the game's robust mechanics. With 30 courses covering all four majors--including The Masters at Augusta National--EA Sports PGA Tour has a plethora of golfing action to sink your teeth into. It's just a shame there are a few notable issues in critical areas that hold it back from greatness.

The first of these is the game's swing mechanic. If you've played a golf game before, the actual act of swinging a driver or 5-iron will be familiar. You pull down on the analog stick to bring the club back, then push forward again to unleash your shot. This has been a staple in golf games for a number of years now, and there aren't any alternatives at the moment--not until a three-click system is implemented in a later update. The issue with EA Sports PGA Tour is that there's a slight delay between your input and the on-screen visual. Your swing isn't 1:1, so there's an uneasy disconnect where you never quite feel like you're in total control. The general malaise of each swing doesn't help matters either, with the slow, clunky pacing and frustrating lag making it difficult to nail the timing and power of each shot. I eventually grew accustomed to these idiosyncrasies over time, but it never feels quite right and fails to capture the satisfaction that hitting a 300-yard tee shot should achieve.

To compound the issue, EA Sports PGA Tour also lacks any sort of meaningful tutorial. There are tooltips that pop up and cover the basics the first time you play, but these brief snippets barely scratch the surface of everything going on under the hood. Instead, the game has a suite of challenges that happen to include a Coaching Academy. This is the best place to start, even if these challenges still neglect to offer any tips or feedback to help you along the way. What you get is a variety of contextual situations covering different aspects of the sport, from putting downhill to dealing with elevation changes and the multitude of shot types on offer. There's a lot of trial and error involved, but the repetition of replaying each situation does give you a greater understanding of how everything works. It's not a very user-friendly approach, but it sets expectations and is genuinely helpful in an unconventional way, even if it might prove frustrating for some. Plus, completing these challenges also earns you XP that can be used to improve your created character.

EA Sports PGA Tour's career mode sits front and center, starting off with your no-name golfer competing in the qualifying school before moving on to the amateur Korn Ferry Tour. The ultimate goal is to reach the PGA Tour, which can be done either by winning one of the many four-round courses or by placing highly enough in the Korn Ferry rankings come season's end. You can expedite this process by opting for a quick play mode where you only need to play a few holes rather than an entire round, but I think playing full rounds is the way to go. That's mostly because it gives you ample time to fine-tune your skills, learn the courses, and gain a better understanding of the game's mechanics. There's also a palpable sense of progression that comes from leveling up your golfer. Earning XP lets you build your skills in driving, approach play, short game, and putting, while progressing each attribute also unlocks more shot types, giving you additional options when preparing to send the ball careening toward the green.

Fortunately, the Coaching Academy includes challenges for each of the game's myriad shot types, giving you the opportunity to see how each one functions before playing competitively. There's value in understanding the differences between a runner, spinner, or knock-down shot, but knowing when to utilize each one essentially comes down to a matter of feel. In this respect, EA Sports PGA Tour resembles the sport of golf more accurately than any other game. There are a number of variables at play for every single shot, to the point where there's a real thought process behind each swing. You have to choose the right shot type and club for each situation, adjust for wind and elevation, judge how much power you need to put into the swing, and account for the distinct ways each course plays--tweaking your shot shape depending on the shape of the fairway and lie of the bunkers. The game helps to some degree by displaying relevant information such as wind speed and distance, but then you're left to your own devices. This can be frustrating, particularly early on when you're still learning the ropes and your golfer's attributes aren't up to snuff, but once everything clicks, EA Sports PGA Tour plays an engrossing game of golf that can be incredibly rewarding.

Much of this is down to the courses themselves. Every single one of the 30 officially licensed courses is staggeringly beautiful and offers an authentic attention to detail, whether it's Liberty National and its view of the Manhattan skyline, the waves crashing against the sand at Pebble Beach, or the alligators lurking in the water at TPC Sawgrass. Almost every course is iconic on some level, and they've all been faithfully rendered and recreated, right down to individual blades of grass. The absence of a course designer is a tad disappointing, but unlike PGA Tour 2K23, it's not something that feels like a necessity because there are already so many 18-hole delights. The courses are the game's main character, providing the kind of variety and depth to stave off any tedium. Mastering a golf game's mechanics is usually the key to success, but EA Sports PGA Tour's courses demand much more from you. Each one plays differently, whether it's the roll of the green or the width of the fairway impacting your decision-making. It genuinely feels like you're playing against the course rather than the shot meter.

The physics model, which is built around the official TrackMan data for ball tracking and swing analysis, is excellent for the most part. However, there are some inconsistencies when it comes to ball rollout. On The Old Course at St Andrews, for instance, the rollout is overly extreme to the point where the ball will roll uphill at pace, even through heavy rough. This forces you to account for situations that shouldn't really occur. Once you land on the green, putting is also equally aggravating for different reasons. Each green contains a grid that uses moving beads to show you the direction of the break. The problem is that sometimes this data is inaccurate and the break is opposite to what the beads are showing. The putt reader alleviates this somewhat by showing the ideal path to the hole, but this is also misleading at times. With no reliable way to gauge the breaks, putting is a lesson in irritation that will only be rectified if these issues are fixed in future updates.

Outside of career mode, EA Sports PGA Tour also features various tournament options for use in online matches against the community. If you want to play against friends, however, stroke play is the only option, and there's a disappointing lack of alternating play for those who want to see each other tee off. A range of daily, weekly, and seasonal tournaments give you another chance to earn XP and items like club specs and in-game cash for a limited time before they're refreshed, so there's an incentive to keep coming back. That in-game cash can be spent in a store of rotating items including various cosmetics, which holds some appeal because the character creator is extremely barebones. Outfitting your golfer in branded clothing can be fairly costly, though, which is explained by the inclusion of microtransactions for those who would rather buy the in-game currency with real money. This isn't a surprising move, but it doesn't exactly vibe with the serene mood.

After almost a decade away from the sport, EA's return to the golf course is a promising one. The range of shot types, courses, and tangible variables make for a methodical and tactical game of golf that's both challenging and rewarding. It stumbles by barely introducing players to its robust mechanics, while a laggy swing and inconsistent putting are notable flaws on what is otherwise a fantastic golf sim. EA Sports PGA Tour represents a solid re-entry for the series and lays down a sturdy foundation for an auspicious future.

Microsoft has announced the second wave of April 2024 Xbox Game Pass additions. The upcoming batch consists of six titles, some of which will only be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

Microsoft's on-demand game library has expanded to include nine titles since the turn of the month. The latest Xbox Game Pass arrival is Harold Halibut , a unique narrative-driven adventure with stop-motion animation, which reached the service on April 16 as a day-one release.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds New Fallout Perks for April 2024

Mere hours following that launch, the company announced Wave 2 of its Xbox Game Pass April 2024 lineup . The newly confirmed additions to the platform are Orcs Must Die! 3 , EA Sports NHL 24 , and Have a Nice Death . The second half of the batch includes Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes , Another Crab's Treasure , and Manor Lords . That latter trio has already been known to be coming to Microsoft's content library, as it exclusively consists of upcoming titles that their publishers announced as day-one Xbox Game Pass releases.

All New Xbox Game Pass Games in April 2024

The first of the newly confirmed additions to reach Xbox Game Pass will be Orcs Must Die! 3 , a 2020 action tower defense game that is set to debut this Wednesday, April 17. EA Sports NHL 24 will be added to the service a day later. As is the case with all Electronic Arts titles that make their way to the platform, the ice hockey sim will require the EA Play add-on, which is one of the perks of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. But seeing how EA Sports NHL 24 doesn't have a PC version, it will only be available to Xbox console owners with an Ultimate-tier membership.

Critically acclaimed roguelike Have a Nice Death will round off the Xbox Game Pass April 2024 Wave 2 lineup. Developed by France-based Magic Design Studios, this stylish indie game is scheduled to reach Microsoft's subscription library on April 30, just over a month following its first anniversary. Have a Nice Death will be the first traditional roguelike to hit Xbox Game Pass in spring 2024. It was widely celebrated as a high-quality genre representative upon its release, with its aggregate review scores on Metacritic ranging from 77 to 81, depending on the platform.

Assuming no surprise launches take place in the next two weeks, Xbox Game Pass will ultimately add 15 new games over the course of this month. This will make April 2024 its most release-filled month of the year so far. But the month will only end up being a small net positive for the service, which lost six games on April 15 and is scheduled to lose half a dozen more on April 30.

EA Sports PGA Tour: Why Has the Pro Pass Been Paused This Season?

Despite being one of the better new features added to EA Sports PGA Tour, the Pro Pass will not be present this season and in this write-up, we are going to find out why that is. Let’s get into the discussion of why the Pro Pass was left behind.

Why Has the Pro Pass Been Paused in EA Sports PGA Tour?

There has been no reason given as to why the Pro Pass has been paused . EA has only indicated that the Pro Pass was abandoned this season and will make a strong return next season, Season 9.

If one has to speculate, this could boil down to the lack of events happening in golf and all of the gameplay upgrades and improvements made by EA to PGA Tour. At the time of writing this, there is only the Hero World Challenge happening between November 30 and December 3.

Running straight after the Hero World Challenge will be the final event before the end of the year, the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. The tournament will start on December 14 and end on December 17. This could be one of the reasons that there are no events for rewards. Because real-time events affect the seasonal updates, there could be too little content for a Pro Pass.

The other reason could be because of the new reward system. The dev team could be figuring out a new way to pair the latest gameplay features, the Pro Pass, and rewards.

Is the EA Sports PGA Tour Pro Pass Worth the Wait?

Yes, the EA Sports PGA Tour Pro Pass is worth the wait. Without it in the game, it makes it difficult to earn additional goods such as apparel, equipment, and specs. All of these will improve your pro’s golf game or style when walking down the greens.

The Pro Pass was introduced to PGA Tou during Season 5’s major update and was a welcomed addition to the game. It gave golfers more motivation to log in every day and try to finish the daily and weekly challenges.

Xbox has now  revealed the second wave of games headed to Game Pass subscribers for the month of April 2024, with adding on to an already-great month for day one launches which includes the likes of Botany Manor and Harold Halibut, with  three more in Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, Another Crab’s Treasure and Manor Lords.

Xbox has also added three new titles to the Game Pass Core library, which is a nice bonus.

Microsoft added Diablo 4 to Game Pass in March and these are the latest titles you can play  on the service.

In this open-world racing game, you can build your dream ride and race against a cast of kooky rivals with names like Clutch Racington. If you drive into a lake, no worries. Your car can turn into a boat because of Lego.

Lil Gator Game

Take a bite out of a cute little quest as a young gator in this adorable game. You play as the titular character as you climb, swim and explore the world around you while making friends with all the other critters and characters you run into along the way.

EA Sports PGA Tour

Not everyone can tee off at historic courses like Augusta National and St. Andrews, but you can with this golf game. You can play against PGA and LPGA pros, like Scottie Scheffler and Lexi Thompson, as you climb the ladder to become a Masters Tournament champion.

Kona (cloud and console)

Kona is returning to Game Pass about three years after it left the service. In this title, you play a private investigator in the 1970s who arrives at a small Canadian village to find it abandoned. You have to explore the village, investigate the supernatural and survive the northern winds. This game will surely send a chill down your spine.

Botany Manor

Calling all plant enthusiasts: If you've ever gotten into an argument over whether a snake plant is part of the Sansevieria or Dracaena genus, this game is for you. In this puzzle game, you play as a botanist in the 1890s completing your botanical research book, and you research and grow rare plant specimens from seed in an idyllic English manor. Don't be afraid to stop and smell the roses while you play.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

This is the final chapter in the story of how Lara Croft took up the mantle of Tomb Raider. You take the role of Croft as she travels to South America to uncover an artifact that could save the world. With the Definitive Edition, you get all seven DLC challenge tombs and more ways to tackle each challenge with additional downloadable weapons, outfits and skills.

Harold Halibut

Xbox Game Pass Adds Hectic Genre Hybrid With 'Very Positive' Reviews

The tenth title to reach Xbox Game Pass in April 2024 is a hectic genre hybrid with thousands of 'Very Positive' user reviews.

• Developed by Robot Entertainment, the game mixes tower defense elements with third-person shooter gameplay.
• Five more titles are coming to Xbox Game Pass before month's end.

Xbox Game Pass members can play Orcs Must Die! 3 as part of their subscriptions starting today. This is the tenth title to reach Xbox Game Pass in April 2024, and the 51st one since the turn of the year.

Developed by Plano, Texas-based Robot Entertainment, Orcs Must Die! is a series of fantasy genre hybrids that combine elements of third-person shooters with tower defense gameplay. The first two entries in the franchise were released in the early 2010s, whereas Orcs Must Die! 3 debuted as a timed Google Stadia exclusive in July 2020 before making its way to PC and consoles a year later.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Adds 2 New Games, One With Amazing Reviews

The game has now also reached Microsoft's subscription service, having launched as part of the Xbox Game Pass April 2024 Wave 2 lineup . As is the case with most additions to the platform, the Game Pass version of Orcs Must Die! 3 is being offered to both PC and console owners, in addition to being available via Xbox Cloud gaming. Trophy hunters will find quite a bit of content to enjoy here, as the game boasts 38 achievements worth 2,150 Gamerscore points in total.

Xbox Game Pass April 2024 Release Calendar

In terms of critical acclaim, this is another fairly highly regarded Xbox Game Pass addition, as underlined by the fact that it's ranked in the 71st percentile of OpenCritic games. Orcs Must Die! 3 also has excellent reviews on Steam, with its player impressions being above the platform's "Very Positive" threshold, based on nearly 9,000 ratings. Aside from a single-player campaign that's roughly 12 hours long, Robot Entertainment's genre hybrid also features co-op multiplayer for two players.

The addition of Orcs Must Die! 3 to the Xbox Game Pass library concludes the middle third of the platform's April 2024 releases. Five more titles are scheduled to reach the popular subscription service before the end of the month, starting with the April 18 launch of EA Sports NHL 24 . The ice hockey sim will be followed by the day-one release of Rabbit and Bear Studios' ARPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes on April 23. Another day-one title is coming to Xbox Game Pass two days later in the form of Aggro Crab's Another Crab's Treasure , a colorful and family-friendly soulslike.

Manor Lords and Have a Nice Death are then scheduled to reach Microsoft's on-demand game library on the 26th and 30th of the month, respectively. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass will also lose half a dozen titles at the tail end of April 2024.
