Jalagamparai Waterfalls

One of the other places to visit in Yelagiri is the Jalagamparai Waterfalls . This waterfall can be found at a short distance away from the main Yelagiri area and is located on the other side of the main hill station area.

The falls are located just 14 km away from Tirupattur. The famous Attaru River meanders through the mighty Yelagiri Hills and cascades down from a considerable height to form a beautiful and captivating waterfall which is a popular tourist attraction.

The cascades are just about a 5 km walk from the Yelagiri downhill with most people preferring to walk or trek to the falls. Despite having a direct pathway from Yelagiri to the falls, this route is often closed for safety purposes.

The waterfall looks its resplendent best during the early days of the month of November to around mid-February for the water that flows is in abundance as compared to the other months in the year. In fact, during the summer months, the water flow from the falls reduces considerably as compared to a few years back.

"The Call of the Hills"

Yelagiri tourism.

A quaint little hill station located in Vellore, Yelagiri is just three hours away from Bangalore, making it the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway. Spread a little over 30 square kilometres, and at a height of over 1100 metres above sea level, Yelagiri offers its tourists some beautiful places like the Jalagamparai falls, sweeping orchards and rose garden, among others. The ideal destination for nature lovers, Yelagiri is a town that is completely off the beaten tourist trail, lending it a quieter and much more peaceful vibe compared to other more famous hill stations nearby. Originally belonging to the Zamindar family of Yelagiri, the hill station began to gain popularity since the colonial rule, when it was used by the British as a summer getaway. Ever since then, it has been one of the hidden gems of South India, replete with rocky hills and natural scenic beauty, making it the perfect place to take a break from the fast-paced city life.

Yelagiri is one of those typical, silent places that seem ordinary on the outside but are more and more startling as you discover it. It has all the features of a great hill station, be it sunset points or lakes and parks. But the beauty of Yelagiri lies in all the more that it has to offer. Being one of the lesser known hill-stations in Tamil Nadu, the place is rarely overcrowded. The surroundings are pristine and the forests are home to some rare species of flora and fauna. The honey that is locally available is considered to be one of the purest and tastiest varieties.

Life Stories by Veena Patil

‘Exchange a coin and you make no difference but exchange a thought and you can change the world.’ Hi! I’m Veena Patil... Fortunate enough to have answered my calling some 35 years ago and content enough to be in this business of delivering happiness almost all my life. Tourism indeed moulds you into a minimalist... Memories are probably our only possession. And memories are all about sharing experiences, ideas and thoughts. Life is simple, but it becomes easy when we share. Places and people are two things that interest me the most. While places have taken care of themselves, here’s my podcast, which I consider to be a great platform, through which I can share some interesting stories I live and love on a daily basis with all you wonderful people out there. I hope you enjoy the journey... Let’s go, celebrate life!
