Counting Crows announce Frank Turner as special guest on the Butter Miracle 2023 Australia & New Zealand tour dates.
Ahead of their forthcoming Butter Miracle Australia and New Zealand 2023 tour, The Counting Crows have today announced legendary punk/rock artist Frank Turner as special guest on all headline shows.
Turner released his ninth studio album FTHC early last year, a record of reckonings, realisations and redemption which debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums chart. Returning to his punk rock roots, the album is harder than previous solo material, exhibiting genuine honesty as he opens up about identity, aging, addiction, anxiety, loss and love.
“I'm fully aware that I'm not the most experimental musician in the world, but I made an electro-pop record and then I made a history folk album, both of those were pushing at the boundaries of what I do,” explains Turner of his last releases . “But the music I've made has always been punk adjacent or punk with an adjective; whether it was it was post-hardcore, folk punk or indie punk. I just mostly still listen to punk rock records, so I wanted to make one – a noisy and, in places, angry record, which is much more sonically aggressive than anything I've done in my solo career.”
Recorded in-between lockdowns via FaceTime with Turner and his band The Sleeping Souls in Oxford and producer Rich Costey in Vermont, they made the entire record remotely, with drums from Nine Inch Nails’ Ilan Rubin, as well as guest appearances from Jason Isbell, Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil, Muse’s Dom Howard and Death Cab for Cutie’s Jason McGerr, all of whom sent their respective parts from various corners of the globe.
The Butter Miracle Tour will start in Christchurch on March 23, followed by dates in Auckland, Wellington, Adelaide, and Melbourne, before finishing up in Sydney on April 11. Counting Crows will also play Bluesfest, Perth on April 1 and Bluesfest, Byron Bay on April 8.
Counting Crows’ Australian tour follows the release of the band’s latest record Butter Miracle Suite One, a four-track, nineteen-minute suite featuring hit single Elevator Boots, available now .
Counting Crows have enchanted listeners worldwide for more than two decades with their intensely soulful and intricate take on timeless rock & roll. Exploding onto the music scene in 1993 with their multi-platinum breakout album, August and Everything After , featuring Mr. Jones , a song that made a huge impression on Australian audiences, the band has gone on to release seven studio albums, selling more than 20 million records worldwide, and is revered as one of the world's most pre-eminent live touring rock bands. In 2004, Counting Crows recorded the chart-topping Accidently in Love for the animated motion picture Shrek 2. The instant success of the track earned them an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song at the 2005 Academy Awards, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song, and a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
Over the last 30 years, the masterful songwriting from frontman Adam Duritz put the band at No.8 on Billboard Magazine's 2021 Greatest Of All Time: Adult Alternative 25th Anniversary Chart.

Frank Turner has been added to Counting Crows’ Australian and New Zealand tour
The English folk-punk singer will join Counting Crows for eight of the band's shows in March and April
English folk-punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner has been added to Counting Crows ‘ forthcoming Australian and New Zealand tour .
Turner will join Counting Crows on all eight of the band’s headline shows in March and April. He will also be appearing at this year’s edition of Bluesfest in Byron Bay, performing alongside the likes of The Doobie Brothers , John Butler and many others.
Counting Crows’ tour – with Turner in tow – will kick off March 23 at Christchurch Town Hall with further headline dates in Auckland, Wellington, Adelaide and Melbourne before it wraps up with shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on April 9 and 11. See dates and venues below – tickets to remaining shows are on sale now.
The upcoming dates will mark Turner’s first visit to Australia in over four years. He last toured the country in late 2018. A planned 2020 tour was later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since Turner last performed in Australia, he has released two more albums: 2019’s ‘No Man’s Land’ – a concept album about various women throughout history – along with last year’s ‘FTHC’.
The latter album saw Turner confront themes like the death of his friend – Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison – on ‘A Wave Across a Bay’ , examine his new relationship with his trans parent on ‘Miranda’ , and collaborate with Biffy Clyro ‘s Simon Neil on ‘The Resurrectionists’ . In his home country, the album scored Turner his first-ever number one album.
Counting Crows’ ‘Butter Miracle’ tour dates are:
MARCH Thursday 23 – Christchurch, Town Hall Saturday 25 – Auckland, Spark Arena Monday 27 – Wellington, Michael Fowler Centre Thursday 30 – Adelaide, Hindley Street Music Hall
APRIL Saturday 1 – Perth, Bluesfest* Tuesday 4 – Melbourne, Palais Theatre (sold out) Thursday 6 – Melbourne, Hamer Hall Friday 7 – Byron Bay, Bluesfest Sunday 9 – Sydney, Enmore Theatre (sold out) Tuesday 11 – Sydney, Enmore Theatre

Touring in support of his latest album No Man’s Land, which features an all-female cast of musicians, focusing on inspirational women from all walks of life whose stories have been largely overlooked. Honing in on his love of folk with acoustic guitar the guiding force, he tells these stories (many of them dark and tragic) with empathy, tenderness, and a desire to illuminate curiosity about his subjects, highlighting both their struggles and valiant successes, making No Man's Land a welcome addition to Turner's critically acclaimed catalogue.
“It’s bringing together my two main interests in life, which have always been separate from each other - history and songwriting,” explains Turner, who can be found seeking out long-forgotten historical sites on self-guided psycho-geographical strolls when he’s not packing out arenas or headlining festivals. Delivering his yearningly honest and heartfelt punk-tinged catalogue, don’t miss UK’s Frank Turner on his Australian and New Zealand 2020 tour!

FRANK TURNER & THE SLEEPING SOULS
Australia & new zealand tour, new album ‘be more kind’, released may 4 th 2018, pre-order the album here https://frankturner.lnk.to/bemorekindpr, blue murder and select touring are excited to announce the return of singer/songwriter frank turner this december, his forthcoming seventh studio album, be more kind (released on may 4 th through xtra mile recordings/polydor records , represents a thematic and sonic line in the sand for the 36-year-old. it’s a record that combines universal anthems with raw emotion and the political and the personal, with the intricate folk and punk roar trademarks of turner’s sound imbued with new, bold experimental shades. produced by austin jenkins and joshua block , formerly of psychedelic-rock texans white denim, and florence and the machine and halsey collaborator charlie hugall . “i wanted to try and get out of my comfort zone and do something different,” says turner. , turner and his band, the sleeping souls , were on tour in the usa in 2016 “when the world decided to go collectively nuts” and the songs that make up be more kind started to come together. “somewhere in the record, there’s a convergence of the ideas of personal and political, which is a central theme of the album,” turner says. one of the driving themes of the album is empathy, even for your enemy. “you should at least be able to inhabit the mental universe of the people you disagree with. if you can’t do that, then how do you communicate with people other than through force of arms, which is something we all agree is a bad idea.” behind some of the best songs of turner’s career is the idea that the human race needs to find better ways of disagreeing than screaming each other down., the first track to be released from be more kind is “1933”, a clattering, state-of-the-nation anthem. furious and direct, it’s inspired by articles turner saw that suggested the alt-right was punk rock. “that filled me with a mixture of incredulity and anger,” says turner. “the idea that breitbart or steve bannon think they have anything to do with punk rock makes me extremely angry.” the other theme in the track is summed up by the line, “if i was one of the greatest generation/i’d be pissed/i’d be screaming at my grandkids/that we already did this.” “these ideas are surfacing again that collectively as a species we’ve already shot down,” says turner ., after the stripped-down, live-sounding positive songs for negative people , turner wanted to try a new approach for the record. “i have an obscure corner of my music taste where i’m into glitch electronic music and warp records,” says turner. “it’s not an electronic record but i got into arpeggiator synths.” positive songs … was cut in nine intense days whereas be more kind was made over a period of seven months, giving turner the opportunity to turn songs on their head, try different versions and shake up the dynamics within his band., now he just has to work out how they are going to play them live. these are songs that demand to be heard and frank turner is packed and ready to go., tickets are on sale now, tickets here: http://selecttouring.com.au/tours/frank-turner-the-sleeping-souls/, frank turner (solo), thu 29th nov san fran wellington nz, fri 30th nov tuning fork auckland nz, frank turner & the sleeping souls, sat 1st dec triffid brisbane, sun 2nd dec forum melbourne, tue 4th dec basement canberra, thu 6th dec cambridge newcastle, fri 7th dec metro sydney, sat 8th dec capitol perth, sun 9th dec the gov adelaide, follow frank turner & the sleeping souls, share this story, choose your platform, related posts, twenty one pilots announce massive global headline tour + share new song & official music video “next semester”, stand atlantic announce brand new album ‘was here’ out august 23 – team up with pvris & mexican alt-pop star bruses for cross genre collab: “girl$”, josh setterfield releases new music video for ‘something that you just might like’ after cmc rocks main stage debut, the ghost inside question their sanity in crushing new single ‘split’ – new album searching for solace out april 19 – touring australia this september supporting parkway drive, witchgrinder melbourne’s industrial metal titans release killer video for queen of sin – new album nothing stays buried out friday, march 28 – touring april, leave a comment cancel reply.
