The Venice City Pass is a tourist card that gives you access to the best museums of the city and/or unlimited public transport rides .

To take advantage of the best things to do in Venice you’ll find that the visitor’s pass is the best investment you can do if you want to experience this city to the max.

No matter whether it’s to make the most of its cultural and historical offer or simply use public transport to navigate the city and nearby islands.

But which pass is the best pass for you? Let me help you!

For a start, ask yourself two questions to understand if these passes might be right for you or you should explore other options:

  • Am I interested/do I have the time to visit more than 3 museums? Write a list of the attractions you really want to visit , then their entrance ticket prices and compare the city pass offer with the total you would spend to visit your chosen museums.
  • Do I need to use public transport to move around multiple times every day or I rather explore the city on foot?

You can purchase your museums and transportation Venice city passes from the Venezia Unica website or from Venezia Unica ticket points in Venice.

If you purchase your city pass online, you’ll receive a voucher via email with a booking code (PNR). You can use the voucher straight away to get access to the city’s attractions and museums.

At this point, you should have a clear idea of all the Venice city passes available.

Before you purchase a city pass, take time to understand which Venice attractions you’re interested in visiting and available time to make the most of your pass.

If you’re a first time visitor I’d personally recommend the St. Mark’s Square Museums pass. Then to purchase a skip-the-line ticket to visit St. Mark’s Basilica separately, or, alternatively, the St. Mark’s Campanile ticket to help you save time.

Also, I highly suggest that you check both the ACTV vaporetto and Alilaguna lines and see what’s the most convenient pass for your particular itinerary (remember that Alilaguna includes transport from/to the airport!).

Venice has a number of different tourist passes and travel cards . A number of these discount cards will really save you money and, above all, a lot of unnecessary waiting times, such as the Venice Pass , Venezia Unica Card and ACTV travel card . 2) ACTV Public transport card

When you plan to use public transport in Venice you always have to rely on ACTV's waterbuses ( vaporettos ). Book your ACTV travel card easily via this link . You will receive a smartphone voucher, which you can easily exchange at a Venezia Unica self-service ticket machine at a Vaporetto stop or at the Venezia Unica counter at Piazzale Roma (next to the station and main bus stop).

If you want to use public transport (via water), you are always depending on ACTV in Venice. You can pre-order your tickets for the Vaporetto waterbuses, choosing between the following ACTV travel cards:

  • Regular ACTV ticket for 75 minutes (9.50 €)

This Venice Museum Pass is especially interesting if you plan to visit many museums. It is a pass that is valid for no less than 180 days and includes 11 museums , including a number of important museums on St. Mark's Square like the popular Doge's Palace . However, the disadvantage of this card is, that after your order, you still have to pick up the 'physical card' at one of the (central) collection locations in Venice. The Venice Museum Card Plus gives access to the following museums:

Purchasing the standard Venice Museum Pass gives you one-time admission to twelve of the city’s major Civic museums over six months.

In contrast, the MUVE Friend Card gives you unlimited access to the city’s twelve museums over twelve months.

The Venice Museum Pass costs €36 for adults, and the MUVE Friend Card costs €45 for adults. You can look at the current pricing for the  Venice Museum Pass  and the  MUVE Friend Card  here.

  • Attractions : You can visit all twelve of the city’s major museums included in both passes. Participating museums include the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, National Archaeological Museum, Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Marciana, Cà Rezzonico, Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, Carlo Goldoni’s House, Ca’ Pesaro, the Murano Glass Museum, the Burano Lace Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Palazzo Fortuny Museum.

  • If your trip to Venice is only a few days and you don’t live close enough to the city to visit again, you might not have the opportunity to check out all of the museums included.
  • You’ll need to purchase separate entry tickets if there are museums you want to visit that aren’t included in this pass.
  • Other significant landmarks and attractions that you might want to see in Venice aren’t included in this pass. Also, this pass doesn’t have a Vaporetto transportation pass.

How to Purchase and Use It

You can purchase the Venice Museum Pass or the MUVE Friend Card online.

A .pdf of your tickets will be delivered to you digitally, and you can either print it out or keep it on your phone.

When you visit a participating museum, have them scan the barcode listed on the ticket, and you’re good to go!

Why choose the Venice Museum Pass?

The Venice Museum Pass is worth it if all you want to do is visit the Musei Civici di Venezia museums.

You have twelve world-class museums to choose from and six full months in which to see them all.

It’s also more straightforward than the Venice Unica Pass since it doesn’t include any additional add-ons you need to worry about expiring if a specific date was selected.

Why choose the MUVE Friend Card?

The MUVE Friend Card is perfect if you live nearby and want the option to go back to the twelve museums within the Musei Civici di Venezia system.

You have one year to go back to any museums as often as you’d like.

  • You’ll need to purchase a separate ticket if there are museums you want to visit that aren’t included in this pass.

To purchase the Venice Unica Pass, you need to  head to their website  and follow the prompts to create a tourist travel card for each person.

Next, you’ll select which of their base-level “Best Deals” tickets you want to start with.

Then, scroll through the additional add-ons and select which card you want to add it to.

Once you’re done, you’ll check out online, save your voucher to your phone, and/or print it out, so you have it with you when you arrive in Venice.

Since each pass is different, follow the directions listed on the voucher on how to access and use the pass you’ve purchased.

Why choose the Venice Unica Pass?

If you’re looking for more flexibility than the Venice Museum Pass, then the Venice Unica Pass is what you want to go with.

One of the base-level passes includes every museum included in the Venice Museum Pass and other admissions.

Or, if all twelve museums are overwhelming, you can choose a base-level pass that only consists of the four significant museums within Piazza San Marco for less, which still includes extra benefits and the option for add-ons.

Why choose The Venice Pass?

This streamlined pass is an excellent choice if you’re interested in experiencing only the most famous landmarks in Venice–St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, and enjoying a gondola ride.

venezia tourist pass

Like the Venice Pass, the Venice Discovery Pass allows visitors to choose from a curated list of the best things to see and do in Venice.

However, it offers more experiences and landmarks than the more consolidated Venice Pass.

The Venice Discovery Pass has different pricing based on your age and how many days you want the pass to be active. You can view the current pricing breakdown on their website here.

  • Attractions : The Venice Discovery Pass includes a fast-track entrance to Doge’s Palace, admission into 15 different Catholic landmarks throughout the city, an Alilaguna Boat Transfer from the city center to the airport, and an audio tour led by a local historian called Welcome to Venice. It also includes 24-, 48-, or 72-hour unlimited access to Venice’s public water transportation system, the Vaporetto.
  • Validity : When you purchase the Venice Discovery Pass, you will schedule each of your included attractions at the time of booking. Your excursion is available on the date you selected in advance. However, your Venetian Churches Chorus Pass is valid for 1 year after its first use.
  • Suitability : This pass is a great choice if you’re interested in visiting Venice’s many historic churches or want to utilize an airport transfer or the Vaporetto system without worrying about additional bookings.
  • If you’re interested in visiting historic Catholic churches in Venice, this pass includes entry to fifteen churches.
  • No need to schedule an additional airport transfer and Vaporetto passes to get you into and around Venice–this pass does it for you.
  • The only major landmark the Venice Discovery Pass includes is Doge’s Palace, so you’ll still need to purchase entry to other museums you want to see.

To purchase the Venice Discovery Pass, head to Tiqets and select “Book Now.” Once you select the number of adult, youth, and children tickets you’ll need, you will work through the prompts to schedule each of the excursions your pass includes.

Why choose the Venice Discovery Pass?

If you’re looking for a Venice pass that combines an airport transfer with a Vaporetto pass, then this is a great choice.

This is an image of the Rialto bridge in Venice, Italy as seen from the water.

The San Marco City Pass is the only one of its kind here on this list of the best Venice city passes! If you’re a history buff who’s passionate about the Republic of Venice, this one is for you.

The San Marco City pass costs $40.80 for adults (ages 30-65), $25.10 for youths (ages 6-29), and $25.10 for seniors (ages 65+).

  • Attractions : The San Marco City Pass includes almost all of the most famous attractions in Piazza di San Marco. With this pass, you can visit Doge’s Palace, the Correr Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Marciana National Library, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, and three churches–the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio, the Church of Santo Stefano, and the Church of Santa Maria Formosa.
  • Validity : When you purchase the San Marco City Pass, you can enter each included museum or monument one time and it’s valid for two years once activated. However, you must enter the Doge’s Palace on the date and time you select at the time of booking.
  • Suitability : This pass is great for anyone who is interested in only exploring the included museums around Piazza di San Marco.
  • Once you activate the pass with your entry to Doge’s Palace, you can use it for entry into the other included landmarks for two years.
  • Instead of purchasing one of these other Venice city passes with too many offerings for a short Venice itinerary, You’re only paying for the things you really want to do.
  • Although it’s called the San Marco City Pass, entry into the Basilica di San Marco is not included in this pass.
  • Once you purchase the pass, you can’t change your entry date and time for the Doge’s Palace.

To purchase the San Marco City Pass, you’ll need to visit the Civitatis and select the date you’re interested in activating your pass and the number of tickets you’ll need.

Once your pass has been purchased, you can schedule all of your additional activities up until the start time, as long as they have space available.

Why choose the San Marco City Pass?

If you’re interested in really exploring all of the different landmarks, the San Marco City Pass is for you.

You’ll be able to take time to discover the history of Venice inside these museums without paying for other museum entries you won’t have time to use.

Venice Sightseeing Passes Comparison Breakdown

venezia tourist pass

Which is the best Venice city pass to buy for my trip?

Although each Venice attractions pass shares some similarities, here are my recommendations on which one to buy based on this Venice pass comparison:

The Overall Best Venice City Pass

After reviewing all of the information, and after very happily using the full Venice Museum Pass myself, the Venice Unica Pass is the best Venezia city pass overall, for both visitors and frequent visitors like myself.

It offers everything the Venice Museum Pass offers–and more.

However, what really sells me on the pass is that cardholders receive additional discounts from participating museums and restaurants.

The Best Venice Attractions Pass To Use Multiple Times

If you live near Venice or are planning to spend a lot of time in the city over the course of a year and want the flexibility to visit the Musei Civici di Venezia museums over and over again, then you need the MUVE Friend Card .

Since there are no restrictions on how often you can visit any of the participating museums, you can take your time working through different museums and go back to others that you want to explore further.

Or, if family and friends are coming to visit and you know they’ll want to head into these museums, then the MUVE Friend Card makes the most sense.

The Best City Pass Venice for Major Attractions

If you’re visiting Venice for a limited amount of time and only want to experience the most famous landmarks and attractions, The Venice Pass is the best choice for you.

Although the pass only includes five excursions, it has the Big 3–skip-the-line entrance to St. Mark’s Basilica with access to the Terrace and Pala d’Oro, fast-track admission to Doge’s Palace, and a shared 30-minute gondola ride.

If you’re not interested in wandering through museums and want to hit the biggest sites, this is the best pass for your itinerary.

The Best Pass to Explore San Marco

The San Marco City Pass is the perfect choice if you want to dive deep into the history and museums around Piazza di San Marco.

Although it does not include skip-the-line admission to the Basilica di San Marco, you can access the Doge’s Palace, the Marciana National Library, the National Archaeological Museum, and the Correr Museum–all museums surrounding the Piazza di San Marco.

The Case For A Venice Museum Pass

However, as I said, I’m a very happy Venice Museum Pass user!

When I first moved to the Veneto region, we didn’t know that there were different options for passes–we only saw the Venice Museum Pass available when we purchased individual tickets to visit Palazzo Ducale.

If you’re only going to be in Venice for a short time, so you don’t need the flexibility of multiple admission but want as many options as possible, this is the pass for you.

The Case of a Venice Discovery Pass

The Venice Discovery Pass offers the fewest bucket-list experiences in Venice .

However, if you’re interested in religious tourism and want to visit fifteen different historic Catholic churches in the city, this is the pass for you!

Also, if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of managing an airport transfer or scheduling your Vaporetto pass, the Venice Discovery Pass includes it for you.

venezia tourist pass

What are some Venice experiences and landmarks not included on these passes?

  • If you’re interested in purchasing one of the Venice city passes for museums, then they do not include a classic Gondola ride. Book a  Grand Canal by Gondola with Commentary  tour to try this wonderful boat trip.
  • Although admission is included for four of the major museums in Piazza San Marco, entry into the Torre dell’Orologio and climbing up the San Marco Campanile are not included in any of these Venice passes.
  • If you want to explore the Doge’s Palace further with a  Secret Itineraries tour , you’re going to need to purchase the experience separately from your ticket to Palazzo Ducale.

The Best Venice Tourist Cards: Wrap-Up

Fortunately, Venice offers a variety of passes that allow tourists to visit the most incredible landmarks and museums in the city while bundling admission.

To ensure that you enjoy the most out of your stay in Venice, consider purchasing one of these Venice city passes!

On St. Mark's Square, you will also find world-famous landmarks such as St. Mark's Basilica with the Bell Tower, Italy's largest library known as Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, and the impressive Doge's Palace. By Durant Imboden

O ver the years, Venice's tourist authorities have sold several different city passes for tourists. One, the Venice Card, was discontinued in 2009; a subsequent version, Venice Connected, was replaced by the Venezia Unica City Pass in December, 2013.

The Venezia Unica City Pass is confusing because it comes in two versions:

A "tourist" version for short-term visitors, and...

A "frequent users" version for residents, students, and long-term or frequent visitors.

In this article, we'll focus on the "tourist" version. (If you're planning on staying in Venice for several weeks or longer, see our Venezia Unica Pass for frequent users article.)

What you get:

The Venezia Unica tourist pass is a stored-value "culture card" that gives free admission to the Doge's Palace and a number of museums without standing in a ticket line.

In addition, you get discounts at various other museums and exhibitions in Venice.

The pass is good for seven days from the first day of use.

Optional services:

If you wish, you can add an ACTV 24-hour to 7-day travel pass , which allows unlimited travel by public transit for one to seven days. (This is the same Tourist Travel Card that you can buy for the same price at any ACTV office or ticket machine.)

Another option is public transportation by bus or water bus from Venice Marco Polo Airport.

You can also buy access to the municipal Venice Wi-Fi Network for 24 hours, 72 hours, or a week. Rates are reasonable if you order the service before your trip. (Note that the "culture card" component isn't needed to buy Wi-Fi access.)

Access to city's outrageously-priced public toilets can also be purchased in combination with the Venezia Unica pass.

Our advice:

Unless you're planning to visit a lot of museums and churches, the tourist version of the Venezia Unica pass probably isn't worth the cost or the bother. Still, if you want more information, see the card's official Web site at:

VeneziaUnica.it

Note: Turbopass, a European company that offers passes in more than a dozen cities, now has its own Venice City Pass that competes directly with Venice Conected. If you're interested in a city pass, we suggest that you compare both products.

Venice Pass: prices, included visits & policy

This Venice city pass is very easy to use because it is exclusively electronic . You can arrange everything from the comfort of your own home, from purchasing to choosing the dates you would like to visit.

Venice Pass pricing

Unlike other passes in other major cities, the pricing system here is very easy to understand . As the pass is a package of tickets and other benefits received in advance, there is only a one-time price it and it only depends on the age of the person using it.

How it works

The pass can only be purchased online . You simply select the number of participants, their age range, and the dates and times for the various activities included. You will then receive all the tickets by email.

Doge's Palace in Venice

You will then need to present these tickets on site once in Venice , whether directly through your smartphone or if you prefer, by printing them out in advance.

When you receive your tickets by email, you will also receive a 10% discount code that enables you to benefit from a reduced price on a set of complementary activities to do in Venice (numerous museums, excursions to small islands on the lagoon, La Fenice opera house, etc.). You can also book them online.

Visits and activities included with this city pass

This city pass includes the must-see attractions for a first trip to Venice:

Doge's Palace

  • Saint Mark's Basilica
  • The Marciana National Library, in front of the Doge's Palace, which can be visited much like a museum . It houses important manuscripts.
  • The national archaeological museum, which houses collections of ancient sculptures, pottery, coins, etc... from different civilizations (Greek, Egyptian, etc...)
  • Access to an audio guide application of Venice, as well as another that provides insight on the Doge's Palace (POPGuide)

Validity period

There is no expiry date for this tourist card. As it is an online Venice pass, see it as a set of activities booked in advance . The good thing is that you can spread out your visits as you wish, without having to force yourself to group them all together within the same given time frame.

In addition, you should know that a 10% discount on other bookings is valid beyond the dates you booked for your included attractions. This means that you can take advantage of the Venice city pass for your entire stay .

Where to get your Venice Pass?

This city pass can only be found online, in the form of mobile applications and electronic tickets, so there is nothing you’ll need to pick-up once in Venice.

You will receive all your tickets by email , as well as the links to download the audio-guide applications, right after your purchase. As for the tickets, you will only have to present them once you get there, and the same applies for the mobile apps that can be used anywhere and anytime.

Venice Transport Pass: rates & policy

This pass is intended only for public transportation . Venice is actually very large, and between getting to the other islands on the lagoon (especially Murano and Burano), and the lengthy journeys back and forth, or even getting to and from the city of Mestre, you will be needing to use public transportation on a regular basis.

Canal in Venice

This Actv card gives you access to the city’s transportation network. Here is what it includes.

Venice Actv transport card pricing

The price structure is easy to understand. It only depends on the number of days you need it . Of course, the longer you plan to use the card, the more it costs. But on the other hand, the price decreases as the number of days increases.

The good news for families with young children is that transportation is free for children under 6 years old . You do not need to buy a card for them.

The Venice transport pass is a traditional type of card. Once you have it, you can use it to travel free of charge on all public transportation services covered by the card (vaporetto boats, buses in Venice, and suburban trains if you choose that option).

Considering a one-way ticket for a vaporetto boat ticket (7,50 €), and the distances to travel in Venice, this card quickly pays for itself . For example:

  • You will have to walk about 3 km from the train and bus stations to St. Mark’s Square, and even more to get to the Castello district, on the east side of the main island.
  • You will need to take a boat to get to the islands of Murano, Burano, and Lido

Modes of transportation included with the Actv card

Here is a list of modes of transport covered by the Venice pass:

  • Access to the vaporetto
  • Access to the Venetian ACTV bus network (transfer to the airport is not covered).
  • Access to R and RV trains around Venice, if this option is chosen at the time of purchase.

Please note: it does not cover transportation to Venice airports (Marco Polo and Treviso), either by bus or by boat (Alilaguna line).

How long is it valid?

This card is valid for the number of days (or rather hours) you choose when you buy it. Time is deducted starting the moment you use it for the first time (the first time you get on a vaporetto, train or bus).

The validity period is counted in hours. This means that if you activate a 2-day pass on Monday at 2pm, it can be used until Wednesday at 1:59pm. This is very practical because there is no need to check if it is cost-effective if you activate it at the end of the day.

Where to get a Venice transport card?

Since it is a printed card, it must be picked up in Venice. The most convenient pick-up points are the « Actv » kiosks found in most vaporetto stations . They can be recognized by the words « Actv » and « Biglietteria ». Simply go to one of these terminals and follow the instructions. You will then just have to scan the QR-code sent to you by email after your purchase to get your pass directly at the machine.

Gondolas on a canal in Venice

Another alternative is to go directly to the Actv office in Piazzale Roma. It is located right next to the bus station and about 500 meters from the Santa Lucia train station. It is open every day from 7am to 7:30pm.

Venice Discovery Pass

This city pass gives you the opportunity to enjoy the rich culture that Venice has to offer, combining access to public transportation with the Actv card detailed above.

Discovery pass pricing

The price depends on 2 factors: the user’s age and the duration of validity , i.e. 24, 48, or 72 hours.

You should consider the Venice pass as a package of several passes, each with its own special features. For example:

  • a ticket for the Doge’s Palace that grants access to other museums in the area
  • an Actv transport card , which provides free and unlimited use of vaporetto boats, ACTV buses, and some trains
  • the Chorus Pass , which grants access to a number of churches, namely the most famous ones.

As mentioned above , the transportation card pays for itself in no time since you’ll need to take a boat to get to some of the islands on the lagoon, yet also to travel long distances.

What is included in the Venice city pass

It covers everything you need for a trip to Venice oriented towards cultural visit s, with access to transportation as well. As you can see, no gondola rides provided!

Here is a list of what the pass includes:

  • Marco-Polo airport transfer (round trip), via the "Alilaguna" boat

A major advantage compared to the Actv card alone: it also covers transfers to and from the Marco Polo airport! This service is available by boat, via the « Alilaguna » line.

This is actually the same coverage as the Actv card , i.e. the number of consecutive hours of unlimited access to public transport. This can be determined at the time of purchase. It is either 24, 48 or 72 hours .

The card’s validity starts being counted the moment you use it for the first time.

Venice lagoon

For the rest:

  • the Chorus Pass is valid for one year, so there is no real limitation there
  • Other tickets dates are to be decided at the time of purchase. These are fast-pass (no line) tickets.

Where to get this city pass?

As it is a package, it can be picked up in installments. But don’t worry, it’s simple and non-binding!

  • The Actv card can be purchased in Venice at the « Actv » kiosks located at most vaporetto stations. We have given more details on this subject earlier in this guide.
  • The Chorus Pass card can be used when you visit a church, by showing the QR-Code obtained at the time of purchase.

As for the other tickets , you will receive everything by email . You will only have to show them when you get there. You will also get the link to download the audio-guide app included in this pass and accessible anywhere and anytime.

Which must-see attractions are included in Venice City Passes?

Depending on which one you choose, you can enjoy either all or only part of the main activities in Venice , from monuments to museums, transportation to gondolas. Here is a summary of the city’s must-sees along with the city passes that include them.

Doge's palace in Venice

Located on St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace is the historic residence of the Doge of Venice . The tour consists of exploring various rooms such as the apartments, a weapons room, etc... But also the prison, as well as the famous Bridge of Sighs that you can walk across. This monument is by far one of the most frequented places in the city , and having a ticket in advance with a city pass or a regular ticket is a must.

The Venice Pass

The Correr Museum

Located on St. Mark's Square, this art museum is one of the most prominent in Venice. It houses many works, including Venetian paintings, sculptures, but also period furniture.

Saint Mark's basilica in Venice

Saint Marc's Basilica

This basilica is one of the beauties of the square that bears the same name. Once inside, you can admire its dome and numerous golden mosaics . Entrance to the building is free but some parts are not free of charge such as the Saint Mark's museum (known for its sculptures of the horses of Saint Mark) and the Pala D'Oro (altarpiece in precious stones), or access to the terrace . The terrace offers a magnificent view of the entire square.

Gondola ride in Venice

Gondola boat ride through the canals

Apart from cultural visits, a gondola ride is a must-do activity when visiting Venice. The concept is to embark on a gondola and navigate along the Grand Canal and other small canals to see the city from a different angle. This activity is extremely popular despite the price .

Vaporetto in Venice

Taking a vaporetto boat

Taking a vaporetto is not necessarily an activity to be done in itself, but it is somewhat atypical and very much representative of Venice. It is the system of boats that cross the Grand Canal and connect it to the lagoon's main islands. It is the most common mode of transportation in Venice, and you will inevitably use it at one point during your stay.

ACTV Venice

This card gives you access to Venice's 15 main churches . The entrance to these churches is not free of charge. Among them: the church of Santa Maria del Giglio, known for its works by Rubens and Tintoretto, the Gesuati church with its 3 beautiful ceiling frescoes, and the Santa Maria del Giglio church.

Conclusion: which Venice Pass is best for my trip?

Before buying one or several city passes for Venice, it’s important to know beforehand if the visits and activities correspond with your interests. Here below is some advice and our opinio n for helping you choose which tourist card to buy when visiting Venice.

For easily enjoying cultural visits

If you plan on visiting Venice mainly for its general atmosphere and cultural attractions (main museums and churches), the Discovery Pass will suit you best.

It is the most comprehensive . It does not include a gondola ride, but if you want to do it, you can book this activity on your own.

In addition to sightseeing, the Discovery Pass gives you access to public transportation , which enables you to move around at your leisure, especially over long distances and to different islands located on the lagoon.

Venice Discovery Pass

The Venice Pass: for combining museums and gondolas!

Are you going to spend a few days in Venice but just want to stick to the main attractions and take nice little strolls around the city to discover it on your own?

If that’ s the case, the Venice Pass is the most relevant. You’ll be able to enjoy the must-see monuments: the Doge’s Palace (and surrounding museums), the fee-based attractions inside St. Mark’s Basilica , a gondola ride , and the mobile apps to discover Venice on your own.

And if you want to do an extra activity (or more), you can always take advantage of the pass’s 10% discount.

The Venice Pass

For transportation only: the Actv card

To get around Venice without worrying about the price of fares and saving yourself the hassle of buying them at the ticket booths, this transportation pass will come in handy. For a city the size of Venice, that requires long distances when traveling to and from the main island, a vaporetto boat is clearly a must .

Since this Venice pass is solely for transportation, you can combine it with a « Venice Digital Pass ».

We bought our passes greater than 30 days out from travel to save the additional discount. We were only in Venice for 4 days but found that the amount of times you hop on and off the vaporetto it was worth the extra cost and the time you save from lining up at the vending machines to buy a ticket each time. Don’t forget each ticket costs approximately €9 and only lasts about 75 minutes. When you buy online your vouchers are a QR code, so for the people who arrive via the airport (which is what we did) the Venezia Unica Activation machine to receive your actual ticket is located in the arrival section of the airport where you pick up your luggage ( NOT THE ARRIVAL HALL). So before you walk out into the arrival hall where all the public are waiting, look to your right and you will see 2 or 3 machines. One of them is for Venezia Unica. Don’t forget to tap on before your first Vaporetto ferry ride. You can do that at any of the ferry stops using one of there scanning machines. This will activate your start time for your ticket duration ie 7days Read more Written July 25, 2023

After we had bought 48 hour ATCV passes for the boats from them, they said we needed ATVO tickets for the bus to Venice. The internet said that the ACTV passes are good for boats and busses but the staff said they were not. We tried the ACTV bus on the way back as it was already waiting and the 48 hour ticket was accepted. Although it had more stops and was slower than the ATVO we would use it in future saving 30 Euros . Read more Written April 8, 2023

Excellent way to travel around, just need to validate your ticket on the pad before you get on. Face masks needed at the moment. Sometimes the boats are busy so you may need to stand or wait for the next one. Check the route direction as you may need to change to a different dock point but the colour route maps work well. All the main attraction points are included. Would certainly purchase again on a return trip. Read more Written August 27, 2022

They sold us a ticket on the ferry to Burano and were not given a receipt except a ticket for the whole 4 of us . We were charged 30€ and told that once on the Burano island we would have 75 min to catch a ferry back to Fondamente nove . 60 min later our ticket didn’t work on the entry gates and the very unhelpful girl at the tickets counter just dismissed us because we didn’t have a receipt (no receipt was given by the guy who sold us the ticket onboard). We are very upset that we had to repay 30€ cash to the ticket office and also because it shows how unorganized the venice ticketing system is . Put all the info on the ticket like it was a receipt and timed ticket together. This system is so obsolete (giving another piece of wasteful paper with a time stamp on it ) and it doesn’t take much to improve it really .
