Travel manitoba launch refreshed tourism brand, slogan back to video.
With the tagline Canada’s Heart Is Calling , the brand focuses on the feelings experienced when tourists see or do something amazing while on holiday. The refreshed brand builds on the success of the previous Manitoba, Canada’s Heart…Beats , which officials said redefined Manitoba in the eyes of visitors around the world.
“ Manitoba, Canada’s Heart…Beats gave us a foundation upon which to build and upon which to grow,” said Colin Ferguson, President and CEO of Travel Manitoba, noting that travellers had very low expectations of Manitoba as a travel destination when that campaign was launched 10 years ago and it got people to travel to the province and Manitobans to change the way they viewed their home.
“This brand is digging a lot deeper, this is actually addressing what your heart can do whether your heart needs to race, whether your heart needs (the) wild, or your heart needs to sing. This is a great opportunity for Manitoba.”

“Manitoba is open for business, and there is no better time to showcase Manitoba as a world-class destination of choice for travellers from Manitoba, Canada and around the world and there’s no better place to start than now,” Premier Heather Stefanson said at the launch at the RBC Convention Centre. “With an abundance of outdoor recreation activities, a competitive and world-class sports and entertainment industry and a vibrant arts and culture sector, there is so much to explore in every community in our beautiful province. As our economy emerges into a new era of growth, this campaign will help ensure Manitoba’s tourism industry continues to be a key contributor to our economy and the growth of our communities.”
The brand and its launch campaign were unveiled through a series of videos, including new television commercials that will begin airing this month. The commercials focus on how travel makes people feel rather than just the places they go.
Officials said the new brand has been enthusiastically received by local tourism operators, many still recovering from the pandemic that decimated global travel.
“COVID was an absolute disaster when it came to the tourism industry,” said Ferguson. “But if there was a benefit, (it’s that) Manitobans toured their own backyard. They experienced places they had not seen or had not been to in a long time and they really started to like them.
“People are really experiencing what Manitoba has to offer. This campaign gives us that breadth and opportunity.”
The Manitoba Tourism Strategy targets to achieve visitor expenditures of $1.6 billion in 2024, and $2.5 billion by 2030 with the overarching goal of increasing tourism by 50% by 2030. Pre-pandemic visitor expenditures were $1.64 billion in 2019, Ferguson said.
The initial advertising budget for the campaign is around $485,000. “There’s a lot more to happen and a lot more to come,” said Ferguson.
The campaign will be marketed in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, northwest Ontario and North Dakota as well as Alberta, Toronto and even California.

Travel Manitoba rolls out new slogan, ad campaign aimed at boosting tourism dollars
A new $2.4 million campaign aims to grow Manitoba’s billion-dollar tourism industry.
Travel Manitoba announced the new slogan “Manitoba: Canada’s Heart Beats” to sell the province to tourists.
"The impression that they have of Canada is absolutely pristine so to put Canada in our positioning line was very strategic,” said Colin Ferguson from Travel Manitoba.
The goal is to grow tourism dollars in the province from the current $1.4 billion annually to $2 billion by 2020.
“This is going to benefit everyone. This is going to benefit hoteliers. This is going to benefit restaurants, benefit those companies in rural Manitoba that depend on tourism dollars,” said Chuck Davidson from the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce.
Ads will be marketed to a large audience, including people watching the Junos and the Sochi Olympics.
"So you look at the assets we featured in the commercial - they're totally unique. What makes us look different not what makes us look the same,” said Peter George from McKim Communication Group.
The campaign will show off polar bears, fishing resorts and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
"This isn't a shotgun approach. We're really pinpointing audiences that we know will resonate and react to the products we have to offer,” said Ferguson.
The new campaign replaces the previous one which had the slogan: “It’s Manitoba time.”
Travel Manitoba anticipates a more successful campaign, when compared with one from a few years ago which drew range of criticism. Premier Greg Selinger said the “Spirited Energy” campaign is dead and buried.
Travel Manitoba rolled out its new ad campaign and slogan for the province on Dec. 12, 2013.

Manitoba adopts new tourism slogan and marketing campaign
Tuesday, January 10, 2023 Favorite
In a bid to attract tourists, Manitoba’s tourism industry has adopted a new slogan and marketing campaign. Travel Manitoba, a provincial Crown corporation, had adopted “Canada’s heart beats” as its marketing tag line eight years ago. This has been changed to “Canada’s heart is calling.”
The new brand is aimed at a more emotional connection to travel, cites Travel Manitoba president Colin Ferguson. There are also new advertisements and new lettering that features a polar bear inside the “A” in Manitoba.
With the commencement of direct flights to Winnipeg, Ferguson says one of the target areas now is California.
Ferguson said the corporation is aiming to increase total tourism spending from the pre-pandemic high of $1.6 billion to $2.5 billion by 2030.
The Manitoba government committed to spend five per cent of all tourism tax revenues on Travel Manitoba initiatives in 2019 which is four percent more than the previous year. The corporation spends about $9 million a year on marketing.

Manitoba reveals new tourism slogan to pitch to post pandemic visitors
By The Canadian Press

Manitoba’s tourism industry has a new slogan and marketing campaign to try to lure more visitors.
Travel Manitoba, a provincial Crown corporation, has changed its marketing tagline from “Canada’s heart beats,” adopted eight years ago, to “Canada’s heart is calling.”
There are also new advertisements and new lettering that features a polar bear inside the “A” in Manitoba.
Travel Manitoba president Colin Ferguson says the new brand is aimed at a more emotional connection to travel.
He says that could mean having your heart race during an outdoor adventure or having a reflective moment at a museum.
The corporation spends about $9 million a year on marketing and Ferguson says one of the target areas now is California, where direct flights to Winnipeg recently started.
“When you look around this province and some of the things that have happened in the last 10 years, there’s been some amazing new additions,” Ferguson said Monday, pointing to examples such as Qaumajuq, a large Inuit art gallery in downtown Winnipeg.
The Manitoba government committed in 2019 to spend five per cent of all tourism tax revenues on Travel Manitoba initiatives, up from the previous four per cent.
Ferguson said the corporation is aiming to increase total tourism spending from the pre-pandemic high of $1.6 billion to $2.5 billion by 2030.

Visits to Manitoba lag behind pre-pandemic levels, but those who come are spending more
'i'd say the future is very strong in the tourism industry': travel manitoba ceo.
Social Sharing
Canada's heart is calling, but it might need to start shouting a little.
Travel Manitoba's marketing campaign and slogan, aimed at drawing tourists to the province, could use a little more urgency, based on the latest available data.
Visitors to Manitoba in 2022 spent just over $1.8 billion, exceeding 2019's record levels by about $160 million. That's also far above the goal set earlier this year, to hit the $1.6-billion mark by 2024.
"We were surprised at that, so there is cautious optimism," Travel Manitoba CEO Colin Ferguson said in an interview.
However, the number of tourists still lags well behind pre-pandemic levels.
According to data released Thursday by Travel Manitoba at its annual general meeting in Winnipeg, visits by Canadians to the province last year reached about 85 per cent of the 2019 levels, while visits from the U.S. were nearly half the 2019 levels and visits by people from overseas were about a third.
- New travel brand, slogan for Manitoba aim to tell the world 'Canada's heart is calling'
- Pandemic expected to hamper Manitoba tourism with a 3-year hangover
Overall, the majority of visitors — 87 per cent — were Manitobans visiting other parts of the province. Ten per cent were from other Canadian provinces, 2.4 per cent from the U.S. and 0.45 per cent from overseas.
"It remains clear that Manitoba's tourism industry still has a way to go from a recovery perspective, particularly for international markets," Ferguson said.
"The tourism industry was one of the first industries hit by the pandemic, and we will be one of the last, if not the last, to fully recover."
Inflation, economic uncertainty, labour shortages and air access continue to negatively affect the industry, he said, but noted at least one of those is starting to improve.
Direct flights between Winnipeg and Los Angeles, as well as Winnipeg-Atlanta and Winnipeg-Minneapolis have since come on board.
"We are hoping to get Chicago and Denver back, particularly to serve the U.S. angling and hunting markets," Ferguson said.
Fly-in hunting and fishing camps, which rely heavily on international visitors, were hit particularly hard during the pandemic and have had a slow rebound.
- U.S. visits to Manitoba bounce back, but still haven't returned to pre-pandemic levels
- World's best travel destinations include Italy, Peru and … Manitoba
However, the spending improvement is a sign the industry is headed in the right direction, Ferguson said.
In fact, the spending rate in Manitoba is ahead of the Canadian average, according to Travel Manitoba, which cited Statistics Canada.
The 2022 tourism spending exceeded 2019 by 10 per cent, while Canada as a whole was only three per cent above 2019 levels. Analysts say this is due to the fact that many parts of Canada rely more heavily on international travellers than Manitoba, and international travel has been slower to recover, the Travel Manitoba release said.
The hotel industry is also seeing positive signs with both revenue and occupancy exceeding 2019 levels last year. The occupancy levels were also ahead of the Canadian average, the release says.
However, those numbers are being taken with a grain of salt.
While leisure and business travel contributed, a portion is also due to housing people from around the province who were forced from their communities due to floods and fires, as well as newcomers, Ukrainian war refugees and construction and mining crews working in the province.

Ferguson said he is excited about the province's new government, which was sworn in on Wednesday, because "they are very bullish on driving the economy … and we believe that the tourism industry is a key driver of that."
"Once those visitation numbers increase and we start to move back toward 2019 [levels] and beyond, we will see even greater spending in the province," he added.
"So I'd say the future is very strong in the tourism industry."
The Manitoba Tourism Strategy, a document that guides the growth and development of the province's tourism industry, has set a target of 12.8 million visitors and $2.5 billion in visitor spending by 2030. That equates roughly to a 50 per cent growth in visitor spending levels compared to 2019.

Hey there, time traveller! This article was published 29/01/2011 (4794 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
It’s Manitoba Time? What is that — one hour later than Alberta Time?
But we have some sympathy for those sloganeers (working in B.C. Time) who sold us those three little words for a big chunk of Manitoba money, because by now all the good slogans are likely taken.
The province may have to end up borrowing someone else’s slogan and hope they don’t notice.
With that in mind, here are some perfectly good, slightly used slogans that could be adapted to Manitoba’s needs.
1. Park Pontiac has two possible slogans: “You got it Park Pontiac,” and “Wicked.” On7 thinks Wicked has a nice ring to it. Besides, Winnipeg was once considered the wickedest city in the Dominion, so the slogan could provide Manitoba educators with some teachable moments.
2. “No foolin’ with Poulin.” With slight modification, this exterminator’s jingle is perfect: “No foolin’ when the water’s poolin’.” For graphics, all the province needs to do is borrow some news footage of the army rolling in to bail us out during the next major flood.
3. Cam may cut the mustard every time at Parkside Ford. But Manitoba makes some pretty good cheese. Think of all the New Bothwell varieties and the semi-soft, washed-rind cheese made by the Trappist monks. The province could go with “Manitoba cuts the cheese every time.”
Or maybe not.
4. “Got Milk” has got to be one of the most effective slogans ever. It’s tough to beat those supermodels with their cute milk moustaches. But Slurpees make pretty good moustaches, too, and Winnipeg is the Slurpee capital of the world. Maybe those kids in Glee will be willing to pose for some Slurpee facials.
5. “We jump to the pump.” On7 likes the rhyme and the simplicity of Domo’s slogan. Just make it read “We jump to the sump pump,” and voila! One of Manitobans’ favourite spring traditions is encapsulated in six words. How can the tourists resist?
6. “Come to the town where the train goes around.” This jingle is certainly catchy, but unfortunately, it’s talking about Tinkertown. Manitoba’s capital city is definitely not where the trains go around. They go right through, following a meticulously developed schedule that ensures they interrupt traffic at the worst possible times.
7. “Don’t cook tonight. Call Chicken Delight.” We have no idea how to adapt this jingle for Manitoba’s use. But they make great chicken. Have some, Mr. and Mrs. Tourist, next time you’re passing through.

Manitoba reveals new tourism slogan to pitch to post-pandemic visitors

WINNIPEG — Manitoba's tourism industry has a new slogan and marketing campaign to try to lure more visitors.
Travel Manitoba, a provincial Crown corporation, has changed its marketing tag line from "Canada's heart beats," adopted eight years ago, to "Canada's heart is calling."
There are also new advertisements and new lettering that features a polar bear inside the "A" in Manitoba.
"When you look around this province and some of the things that have happened in the last 10 years, there's been some amazing new additions," Ferguson said Monday, pointing to examples such as Qaumajuq, a large Inuit art gallery in downtown Winnipeg.
