Star Trek: TNG Fluxx
Beam yourself aboard the Enterprise-D for a game of Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx! Join Picard, Riker, Data, and the rest of the TNG crew, to gather the Keepers you need for victory – but don't let Creepers like Q or the Borg keep you from your mission! With new cards like Darmok and the Rule of Acquisition, this version of Fluxx will take you into the 24th Century!
It all begins with one basic rule: Draw one card, play one card. You start with a hand of three cards, add the card you drew to your hand, and then choose one card to play, following the directions written on your chosen card. As cards are drawn and played from the deck, the rules of the game change from how many cards are drawn, played, or even how many cards you can hold at the end of your turn.
Bridge Expansion Card List:
- Meta Rule: 5 Card Mission
- Keeper: The Bridge
- Goals: Past Meets Future, Generations, Scien ce Officers, Engineering's Finest, Medical Geniuses, Captain on the Bridge, Bridge of the Enterprise, Romulan Attack, Phaser Overload, and Star Fleet
Add some Enterprise flavor to your collection of Star Trek Fluxx decks!

Porthos Expansion : The second of two Enterprise -themed expansion packs is on the light-hearted side, and is named for Porthos, Captain Archer’s dog. Porthos is joined by his crewmate Dr. Phlox, his fellow space pet Spot, a famous Klingon, Kor, and a bottle of Romulan Ale. Also includes a new Action and a New Rule! The Porthos Expansion pack works with any of the 4 standalone Star Trek Fluxxes, but for maximum fun, shuffle these cards together with as many of the Trek Fluxxes as you have! Contains 16 cards.

Product description.
Fluxx is a card game in which the cards themselves determine the current rules of the game. By playing cards, you change numerous aspects of the game: how to draw cards, how to play cards, and even how to win. At the start of the game, each player holds three cards and on a turn a player draws one card, then plays one card. By playing cards, you can put new rules into play that change numerous aspects of the game: how many cards to draw or play, how many cards you can hold in hand or keep on the table in front of you, and (most importantly) how to win the game. There are many editions, themed siblings, and promo cards available. Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx features the most popular characters from this television series, including Captain Picard.

Card Game Review: ‘Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx” from Looney Labs
Jeff Provine September 16, 2018 Comments Off on Card Game Review: ‘Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx” from Looney Labs 799 Views
Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx from Looney Labs is a bold take on the classic card game with the ever-changing rules. With so many different properties being incorporated into the Fluxx world, including a Fluxx for the original series Star Trek , an unknowing glance would guess that each version is just a skin over the original set. Yet Looney Labs creates new rules and shuffles the numbers of different kinds of cards to give each edition its own flavor. The former ST:OS Fluxx focused on a rapid spirit of adventure, for example, while the ST:TNG Fluxx captures the themes of cleverness and diplomacy like the new series.
Features from the TV series are clear in Star Trek: TNG Fluxx with Keepers showing tools like the Phaser and the Holodeck and favorite characters like Data, Geordi, Guinan, and of course Captain Picard himself. They pair up to make Goals, with Data and the Holodeck being the conditions to win with Elementary, Dear Data. There are also plenty of Creepers, cards that prevent a player from winning unless special conditions are met, such as Q and the Romulans. Several Creepers attach to Keepers, like the Borg and a Malfunction, rendering the Keeper a hazard until discarded.
Beyond the iconic elements, Star Trek: TNG Fluxx reflects the thematic mood of the series as well. The new rule Darmok! enables players to draw extra cards in they spend their turn speaking only in proper nouns and numbers, a great boost for a dedicated Fluxx player. The most strategy comes with playing on the Creepers, playing Actions like Creeper Reassignment to move a Creeper to another player or Distress Call to prompt everyone to draw a card with those players suffering Creepers drawing even more. By slyly changing who is being attacked by the Cardassians, a player may go from what would be considered last play to victory in a single turn.
Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx is a card game for two to six players aged eight and up. Games are usually fairly short, lasting about twenty minutes, although the actions of clever players can rapidly speed up the end with swift moves or extend play by stopping another player from winning with a sudden shift in the game.
To add further excitement for Trek fans, Looney Labs also offers a Star Trek Fluxx Bridge Expansion deck with a suite of new cards that combine ST:TNG with the Original Series Fluxx . Goals match captains, science officers, Enterprises , and the Past and Future themselves.

PuzzleNation Product Review: Star Trek Fluxx and Star Trek: TNG Fluxx
[Note: I received a free copy of this game in exchange for a fair, unbiased review. Due diligence, full disclosure, and all that.]
Innovation is part of the fabric of the puzzle/game industry. Constructors and game designers are constantly pushing the envelope, finding new ways to reinvent the puzzles and games we love in order to create new solving and playing experiences. Every new wrinkle is a step forward, and Looney Labs has been at the forefront of that movement for years now.
And it’s only fitting that Fluxx, a card game all about dynamic gameplay and ever-shifting rules, continues to grow, evolve, and adapt, adding new gameplay mechanics to an already loaded bag of tricks.
Their newest release also fits that ambitious aesthetic. After all, the Star Trek series has always been about boldly going where no one has gone before. Today, we’re doing the same as we review Star Trek Fluxx , Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx , and a special expansion pack .
For the uninitiated, Fluxx is a straightforward card game. You collect keeper cards and put them into play. Different combinations of keeper cards complete different goals, and each player has the chance to put different keeper cards and goal cards into play in order to win. So you might find yourself working toward completing the goal at hand when suddenly somebody plays a new goal, and the object of the game changes.
Along the way, players affect how the game is played by utilizing action cards and new rule cards which alter what players can and can’t do. Suddenly, you’ll have to trade your hand with another player, or start drawing three cards each turn instead of one.
Star Trek Fluxx marries the chaotic gameplay of the now-classic card game with familiar characters and themes from the iconic science fiction franchise to create a fresh and enjoyable play experience.
The special touches are immediately identifiable, as the title at the top of every single card is written with the famous Star Trek font.
Even as you collect and play cards bearing the images of beloved characters like Kirk, Uhura, and Spock, you’ll find yourself on a strange new world, as unfamiliar new actions and obstacles appear in your path. I encountered Action cards I don’t recall ever seeing in previous Fluxx games, like Taxation, which requires every other player to give you one card from their hands, and Brain Transference, where you switch seats, cards, Keepers, and Creepers with another player.
Not only that, but lurking in the deck amidst rules, keepers, and goals is an Ungoal, a card that works like a goal, except when all of the conditions on the card are met, everyone loses.
But that unpleasantness is balanced nicely by the many references to the classic show featured throughout the game. As a long-time Star Trek fan, it warmed my heart to see the goal card Majel’s Voice, which credits actress Majel Barrett (wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry) in her dual roles as Christine Chapel and the voice of the Starfleet computers in future editions of the series (as well as Deanna Troi’s mother, Lwaxana, in The Next Generation ).
I was also delighted to see the Fizzbin card, which features ridiculous rules reminiscent of the fictional game Kirk and Spock make up as a distraction in the episode “A Piece of the Action.”
These clever touches not only add depth to the gameplay, but serve as welcome nerdy reminders to fans of the series, little inside jokes that entertain, even as they wink and nod in tongue-and-cheek fashion.
The Star Trek: The Next Generation edition of Fluxx covers a lot of the same ground as Star Trek Fluxx — including a special font for the card titles, Ungoals, and gameplay mechanics built around the technology like the Transporter — but adds numerous little touches that make for an enjoyably distinct play experience.
The Holodeck, for instance, comes into play with several cards, proving to be just as big a distraction (and occasionally, annoyance) as it was in the TV show. Some of the Keeper cards also grant additional actions to the players who use them — like taking additional cards, resolving Creepers that would prevent you from winning the game, etc. — that make them more desirable and handy than Keepers in other editions of the game.
Not only that, but the cards are packed to capacity with inside jokes and fun references to events from the series. From the officers’ poker night to Picard’s harrowing declaration that “There Are Four Lights,” many of the show’s most memorable moments are reflected in some way in the gameplay.
Heck, there’s even a rule card that rewards you for communicating using only names and numbers like the aliens in the classic episode “Darmok.” It’s a super-clever idea based on a much-loved episode of the show.
Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx has all of the strengths embodied by Star Trek Fluxx, but still feels like it was created specifically for fans of the Picard years. It’s an elegantly balanced approach.
And, for the very first time, two Fluxx games have been designed so that you can combine and mix them to create a unique play experience!
Although there’s nothing stopping you from mixing Fluxx games — the card backs always look the same, after all — sometimes differing games don’t mesh well, spoiling the fun. But in this case, not only were the two games designed to have similar elements — crew members, technology, ships named Enterprise — but there’s a small bonus pack, The Bridge Expansion , which is crafted to make the most of merging your two games.
Yes, much like the Borg, you can assimilate each game’s individual strengths into a single, unified core.
With goals that encourage crossovers between the two shows, as well as a rule card called The 5 Card Mission (referencing the U.S.S. Enterprise’s original 5-year mission), The Bridge Expansion allows for double the Fluxx-fueled chaos and fun.
Whether you’re choosing to play one of these new star-spanning editions of the game, or combining all three products for the ultimate Star Trek Fluxx experience, you are guaranteed to be surprised and amused. Looney Labs games continue to innovate, entertain, and grow in both complexity and cleverness, and they’ve truly outdone themselves this time around.
[ Star Trek Fluxx , Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx , and The Bridge Expansion are all available now from Looney Labs and certain online retailers.]

Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx ® is a variant of the Fluxx ® series. It was released on August 2, 2018 under dual license by Looney Labs and Gale Force Nine . It is based on characters and situations depicted in Star Trek: The Next Generation , which originally aired in syndication in the US from 1987 to 1994. It was the second of four Star Trek -related sets made by Looney Labs. As of August 2023, it is still available from the Looney Labs Webstore , albeit in limited supply "Demo Copy" form, which is the same as the regular release version, but with a pink "Demo Copy" sticker on the box front. To date, there are no plans for another reprinting of the set.
Packaging [ ]
The Packaging for Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx ® is the standard flat 2-part box (4 13/16" length x 3 11/16" width x 1" depth) currently used for Fluxx ® sets. The box holds all the cards in two piles with a cardboard divider insert keeping said piles apart for storage. It also holds an instruction sheet and a catalog of Looney Labs merchandise.
The deck contains 100 cards: 20 Actions , 6 Creepers , 30 Goals , 16 Keepers , 21 New Rules , 5 Surprises , 1 Ungoal and 1 Basic Rules card. All cards carry the following copyright information under the Fluxx logo on their backs: "TM & © 2018 CBS Studios, Inc. STAR TREK and related marks and logos are trademarks of CBS Studios Inc. All rights reserved."
The headers describing each card type on their fronts are in the font style known as "Crillee Italic" , the same font used for the show's credits.
The card art was produced by Kevin Hill, who has done the art for all of Looney Labs' "Star Trek"-related releases.
Some of the Keepers and Creepers carry one of three special Icons on them. The Keepers may have one of two Icons: Crew Member , denoting personnel from the Enterprise , and Equipment , which refers to the various devices used by the crew. Some Creepers carry an Attaching Creeper Icon, which means that the Creeper must be attached to a specified type of Keeper with one of the two above-mentioned Icons if available. Once attached, the two cards are considered a single unified card until the Creeper is either removed from play or another card specifically says to detach it from the Keeper.
NOTE: The Crew Member Icon used on this set and the Star Trek Fluxx set is interchangeable with the identical Starfleet Officer Icon used in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Fluxx and Star Trek: Voyager Fluxx sets.
Card List [ ]
Promo cards and expansion packs [ ].
To date, three Expansion Packs have been released that are directly compatible with the set: the Star Trek Fluxx: Archer Expansion , the Star Trek Fluxx: Bridge Expansion and the Star Trek Fluxx: Porthos Expansion . However, as of 2023, no single Promo Cards have been produced for this set.

The Fluxx game, which is touted as one “with ever-changing rules,” relies heavily on each player’s actions to guide where the gameplay will go — with the goal to find and collect “Keeper” cards as you go, aiming to complete goals established by previous rounds of play.
Along the way, these “Keeper” cards might be traded with or stolen by other players, while “Creeper” cards can either get in your way — or help you win the game, if you’re lucky. As you play, the game will be impacted by “New Rule” cards (which, as the name implies, changes how things proceed forward), and “Action” cards, which dictate a required task the player at hand must complete.
The joy of Star Trek: Voyager Fluxx is in the depth of Voyager knowledge that the Looney Labs team clearly utilized in the design of this version of the game, with cards referencing fan-favorite character traits, episodes from all across the show’s seven seasons, and even a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor about some of Voyager’s lesser-loved elements.
Here are some of our favorite cards from each section of the game, clearly illustrating this team’s love of Voyager .
- B’Elanna Torres: The skilled engineer saves the day if you’re stuck with a Malfunction card.
- Phaser: Stun away any Creeper in your way.
- Timeship Aeon: The time-traveling starship from “Future’s End” will give you an extra turn.
- Holographic Doctor: Players must announce the card with the EMH’s catchphrase.
- Transporter: Beam up any other player’s Keeper to your own collection during a turn.
- There’s Coffee In That Nebula: Get Captain Janeway a refill of her trusty beverage.
- Nurses in Training: Pair up The Doctor with his sickbay sidekicks, either Kes or Tom Paris.
- Even the Borg Fear Them: Recreate the Collective’s war with Species 8472.
- Human Error: A joking dig at the late-series romance between Chakotay and Seven.
- Tuvix: Recreate that infamous incident by pairing up Tuvok and Neelix with the Transporter.
- Breaking the Threshold: Match up the parents of those long-lost lizard babies.
- Ancestor’s Eve: Mention the name of one of your own ancestors (or older family members) and pick up an extra card.
- Vent the Warp Core: Get a free pass to dump as many cards from your hand as you like, and replace them with new ones.
- The Kazon: You can’t win with this Creeper card in your possession, so you can curse it to whoever has USS Voyager in their hand.
- Krenim Timeship: Discard a Keeper card and change another player’s history by adding this to their impediments.
- The Caretaker: Fire out a coherent tetryon beam and collect the USS Voyager, along with cards bearing the faces of all original Alpha Quadrant senior staff.
- Belay That Order!: Cancel out another player’s commands and shut down an Action card.
All in all, it’s not a revolutionary update to the Star Trek Fluxx series, but certainly it’s a well-crafted homage to the adventures of Captain Janeway’s crew, and one which will make a great expansion to the existing three Star Trek Fluxx games — if you’re brave enough to combine them all into one massive deck.
Unfortunately, this is the last Trek Fluxx game expected from the Looney Labs team, who told us last spring that Enterprise wasn’t getting its own variant — though that series was well-represented in 2019’s Chrono-Trek game — and because the ongoing new shows aren’t finished airing yet, no entries for Discovery , Picard , etc., will be pursued at this time.
That said, the company’s five Star Trek card games have been welcome releases to the analog gameplay scene, after years of less-than-stellar video and mobile games, and we hope other board and card game designers will follosw suit in the future.
JUNE 3 UPDATE: We may have spoken too soon, as the Looney Labs team shared on TrekCore’s Facebook page that “pending CBS approval,” they’re pursuing “two final expansion packs that will have a heavy dose of Enterprise cards in them and will allow you to shuffle all the decks together.”
You can pick up your copy of Star Trek: Voyager Fluxx — and all of Looney Labs’ other Star Trek games — at your local game store now, or at the links below.

Now you can beam yourself aboard the Enterprise-D for a game of Star Trek: The Next Generation Fluxx ! Join Picard, Riker, Data, and the rest of the TNG crew to gather the Keepers you need for victory — but don't let Creepers like Q or the Borg keep you from your mission! With new cards like "Darmok" and the "Rule of Acquisition", this version of Fluxx will take you into the 24th century!

Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx is one of the latest versions of Fluxx from Looney Labs. Fluxx is a game of ever changing rules and goals for victory. Each turn you draw one new card and play one card, but you can play cards that change the rules, such as to draw more than one card, play more the one card or limit the number of cards you can have. During the game you will collect keepers from Star Trek The Next Generation, such as Captain Picard, the Transporters or Wesley Crusher. You collect these keepers to achieve the goals which can be played and change any number of times during the game, can you collect Wesley and Dr Crusher to achieve The Crusher's goal, or perhaps Computer Brains by having Data and the computer in front of you. But beware, during the game you might gain a creeper! Creepers usually stop you from winning the game and can be difficult to get rid of. The Borg, Romulans or Cardassians might stop you in your tracks. Or a malfunctioning phaser might be the end of your game. Creepers are not the only problem you might encounter, your opponents will also play surprise cards against you, vetoing your played cards, cancelling your actions and plans or even stealing your keepers out form under you and snatching victory in the process! Step into the amazing world of Star Trek The Next Generation Fluxx from Looney Labs, take the helm, go to red alert, avoid the Borg cube and claim victory. Why Star Trek: Discovery Chose That Classic Next Gen Storyline To Explore In Its Final Season
Shields up! This article contains major spoilers for the season 5 premiere of "Star Trek: Discovery."
Who knew that "Star Trek: Discovery" would be saving its biggest reveal for last? After being responsible for kickstarting the new era of "Trek" on streaming , the fifth and final season is signaling the beginning of the end for the flagship series. But as fans would expect, the opening episode proves the writing team has no intentions of taking its final bow without crafting one last adventure worthy of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Mr. Saru (Doug Jones), and the rest of the Discovery crew. (For more on that, you can check out /Film's "Discovery" season 5 premiere review by Jacob Hall here .) So perhaps it was inevitable that the biggest twist of the young season would have its roots in one of the most game-changing hours of "Trek" lore ever.
Trekkies will no doubt remember the classic "Next Generation" episode "The Chase," which first introduced the extinct race known as the Progenitors. Responsible for seeding humanoid life throughout the galaxy, these ancient beings were meant as an in-universe explanation for why almost every alien race encountered by Starfleet looked mostly like, well, ourselves ... give or take a few random ridges on foreheads and such. This also had the side effect of linking even the biggest enemies — humans, Romulans, Cardassians, and even Klingons alike — on a foundational genetic level.
"The Next Generation" mostly breezes past this revelation and reverts to business as usual in later episodes, despite the startling implications, so leave it to "Discovery" to pick up this major dangling thread and weave it into the fabric of this new season. At the season 5 world premiere, producer Michelle Paradise addressed why the show's creatives went back to this storyline in particular.
'Huge ideas and huge themes'
How do you raise the stakes even higher than the time-traveling shenanigans of "Discovery" season 2, the mysterious dilithium "Burn" of season 3 that caused the breakdown of Starfleet, and the impossibly advanced species of extraterrestrials that put the entire galaxy at risk in season 4? Well, going all the way back to the origin of life as we know it is definitely one way to get the job done and end things with a bang.
It took until the closing moments of the season 5 premiere for the full picture (or part of it, at least) to round into shape, but what a twist it is! As it turns out, the pair of scavengers who absconded with an item of top priority to Starfleet couldn't have possibly picked a more important piece of "Trek" lore: the leftover Progenitor tech that helped them create humanoid life in the first place. So why tie things back to that underrated "The Next Generation" episode , of all things? At the SXSW premiere of "Discovery," producer Michelle Paradise had this to say:
"'The Chase' is an episode that had stuck with many of us because it addresses such huge ideas and huge themes. Where do we come from, the creation of life. And then it was this one episode, and then that was it [...] And it just left us with many, many questions."
That's putting it mildly. Even for a sci-fi franchise like "Star Trek," those are some incredibly heady ideas to attempt to tackle. It's one thing for a random episode in the early 1990s to suddenly establish such a massive change to canon. It's quite another for "Discovery" to double down. According to Paradise, however, this was done with character and theme in mind.
Tackling the big questions
Arguably more than any other ongoing series, "Discovery" has always worn its heart on its sleeve. That doesn't appear to be changing in season 5, but it's only fitting that the final adventure for this cast digs deeper into the psyches of the characters than it ever has before. The biggest question on the minds of the creative team, as it turns out, revolved around ideas of meaning and purpose for Burnham, Saru, and all the rest. According to Michelle Paradise, those are existential topics that translate naturally from the events of "The Chase," set hundreds and hundreds of years before the future timeline of this current season of "Discovery." She went on to say:
"And so when we were thinking about this season in particular and what we were going to be doing thematically and our characters looking at questions of meaning, questions of purpose. It felt like that was a really great place to go back to as a launching point for this adventure and that it was going to have that resonance."
For a crew that's been stranded in the future and cut off from everyone they used to know, these are poignant issues that previous seasons of "Discovery" have sought to explore. After having rebuilt Starfleet to something close to its former glory and putting the officers of the Discovery through the wringer, the rest of season 5 is now primed and ready to push these characters where they have never gone before.
New episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery" season 5 premiere on Paramount+ every Thursday.
