REVIEW | INFAMOUS MOBB DEEP: MURDA MUZIK 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2019 LONDON

The legendary Mobb Deep came equipped for war­fare on tour cel­eb­rat­ing the 20 th Anniversary of their fourth album Murda Muzik . The Infam­ous Mobb Deep are a pion­eer­ing rap group to emerge from New York City in the 90’s era, a group which per­fec­ted a sig­nat­ory sound which meant some of their tracks instantly became time­less clas­sics. A grit­ti­er rap group, their tracks often con­tained graph­ic imagery of grow­ing up in Queens­bridge Houses and Mobb Deep are some of QB’s finest who provided the soundtrack to the streets. Murda Muzik dropped on August 17 1999 with col­lab­or­a­tions from vari­ous oth­er includ­ing, Cor­mega on What’s Ya Pois­on and Big Noyd on Streets Raised Me . This one album alone houses sev­er­al hits includ­ing the crowd pleas­ing Shook Ones and Quiet Storm on which Hav­oc has sampled, White Lines (Don’t Do it) by Melle Mel. The mix­ture of dope lyr­ics and beats, it’s hard to believe it’s been over twenty years since this album came out as it still has the same impact when played now.

Mid world tour, Mobb Deep’s flight from Bul­garia to Lon­don had been can­celled so they had to make the which meant they came straight from the air­port to the Lon­don stage, not even stop­ping at the hotel, ‘We know we had fans wait­ing’ – Big Noyd. DJ L.E.S took to the stage with Big Noyd hyp­ing up the crowd ready for Hav­oc to rush out per­form­ing Sur­viv­al of the Fit­test, what a hard tune to start with, the crowd was ready recit­ing rhyme for rhyme, instantly the energy levels went up, this is what we had come for!

They per­formed vari­ous tracks not just those on Murda Muzik , so there were bangers for every­one to wild out. Observing some the young­er faces at the Lon­don show at the Oval, the crowd was more diverse than I had expec­ted. If any­thing, the diversity was a testi­mony of the longev­ity of Mobb Deep, and their mass appeal even to a young­er audi­ence. Hav­oc and Big Noyd are cha­ris­mat­ic storytellers hail­ing from Queens­bridge, who cap­tiv­ated us with their move­ments on the stage mim­ick­ing actions to their words. We were engaged.

As the show con­tin­ued, The Realest by Prodigy blared out of the speak­ers, Hav­oc let his verse roll out. It’s always emo­tion­al to hear P’s voice but there was some­thing cath­artic about being in the same room as P’s fam­ily — Hav­oc, Big Noyd and L.E.S. With the bass pump­ing through the floor, we were cel­eb­rat­ing Prodigy’s life and diverse dis­co­graphy togeth­er which gave me a warm fuzzy feel­ing inside. As L.E.S played Thug Music , Hav­oc shared that this was one of his favor­ite Prodigy songs — Rest in Peace P we will nev­er for­get you.

More of my favor­ites Eye for an Eye and Right Back at You had me hyped. Then came anoth­er of favor­ites tracks —   It’s Mine on which Nas’ men­tion of Bar­bra Streis­and on his drives me crazy every time I hear it. Havoc’s use of the sample from Tony’s Theme from the movie Scar­face, is enchant­ing. Hav­oc has done an amaz­ing job on the pro­duc­tion here, I had instant feel­ing of nos­tal­gia think­ing of the lux­uri­ous music video pro­duced by Hype Wil­li­ams to this song. ‘We had a lot of fun shoot­ing that’ Hav­oc later told me.

The dark­er sounds of God­fath­er Part 3 had some of the more hard­core fans going crazy. The melody of Get Away always takes me away to anoth­er zone, and hear­ing Temperature’s Rising was also spe­cial for me, that brought back a lot of memor­ies as well. The Learn­ing (Burn) feat. Big Noyd & Vita got every­one boun­cing, that instru­ment­al is killer but L.E.S kept the party jump­ing mix­ing it into 50 Cent — Outta Con­trol ft. Mobb Deep which was a real treat for fans.

There were many tracks I was left long­ing for such as, U.S.A (aiight then) , but Mobb Deep’s dis­co­graphy is so rich its always impossible to do it justice in just one show. The show ended with Shook Ones Part 2 , the tune that is guar­an­teed to get the crowd jump­ing with excite­ment every time leav­ing us want­ing more.

A great night of real hip hop. I caught up with them after the show to ask how they man­aged to come straight from the air­port to do the show with noth­ing but energy and good vibes.

HAV­OC: The secret is not want­ing to let your fans down, so even if we don’t got no fuck­ing energy we got to fake it like we got energy for the fans. People have paid their money to come and see you so you can’t just be like, I’m tired. You got to pull that energy from deep with­in and be like fuck it.

NOYD: That’s exactly what it is. When the fans are there you, draw energy from them.

Mobb Deep Announces ‘Hell On Earth’ 20th Anniversary Tour

Mobb Deep are hitting the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album Hell On Earth.

Another year, another anniversary to celebrate. After celebrating the 20th year since its classic LP  The Infamous  with a double album and tour, today Mobb Deep announces a 38-date U.S. outing to celebrate two decades of its third album, 1996’s  Hell On Earth . The first date will be in Philadelphia Mar. 5, and the duo will welcome Smif-N-Wessun and the Dogg Pound on selected dates.

Exclusive: Mobb Deep Talk Career Beginnings & ‘The Infamous’ on Its 20th Anniversary

The outing will include three shows at SXSW in Austin, Tex. in March, as well as five events — one apiece in Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago and two in New York — with the Scratch DJ Academy, which will include VIP packages offering demonstrations in making beats, the art of MC’ing and DJ’ing from Mobb Deep’s Havoc and Prodigy as well as longtime touring DJ and producer Ski Beatz. The tour will wrap up in Cambridge, Mass. April 23.

As with  The Infamous ‘ milestone, Mobb Deep are also planning on putting out an album of previously-unreleased tracks from the recording sessions for  Hell On Earth , which came out Nov. 19, 1996 on Loud/RCA and boasted features from Nas , Method Man , Raekwon  and frequent collaborator Big Noyd, among others. And even though this tour is set to celebrate  Hell On Earth , Mobb Deep’s two shows in New York with the Scratch Academy will feature the duo performing  The Infamous  in its entirety at the Blue Note with a live band, which is set to be recorded for a live release later in the year.

The hip-hop duo Daz Dillinger and Kurupt known as Tha Dogg Pound formed in 1992 and signed to Dr Dre’s new label Death Row Records imminently. The band’s early rise to fame was pivotal to the success of the label. Appearing on Dr Dre’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Chronic’ and Snoop Dogg’s ‘Doggystyle’ gave them the boost they needed to forge great success. In 1995 they released their debut full-length album ‘Dogg Food’ which went double platinum taking them straight to the top of the Billboard charts. Their involvement with the West Coast hip-hop scene continued as they also featured on Tupac Shakur’s monumental 1996 album ‘All Eyes On Me’. Being the breadwinners and bringing the label an incredible amount of success took its toll on TDP, feeling exploited and with the label’s reputation and financial situation deteriorating the duo decide to leave and eventually starting their own solo successful projects. Rivalry appeared to follow them everywhere as they had public spats with Bone, Thugz and Harmony, Mobb Deep and Tragedy Khadafi. Soon a rift was caused between Daz and Kurupt who would spend the entirety of 2003-5 publically dissing each other on record. After years apart having varying levels of success, the duo called a truce in 2005 and reformed. Since their reformation they have worked through their differences and created a bond even greater than before. Their brotherhood and new found happiness is apparent on stage as they interact, dancing across the floor as they plough through some of their biggest hits like ‘New York, New York’, ‘Let’s Play House’ and ‘Coastin’. Their reunion is welcomed by hundreds of adoring fans who scream waving their arms back and forth. The musical interplay between the duo is incredible as they bounce off each other’s energy. Tha Dogg Pound may have been gone, but now they are here to stay!

(Show date 10.25.19) LOVE Tha Dogg Pound, seen them multiple times. Their set was good as usual but surprisingly this particular show was short. I think it was barely 30mins but had a great time. Right after the show Kurupt stayed on stage and folks literally started hoping up there to meet him & take pics.

I got to meet him after he left the venue...very nice, kind guy.

Mobb Deep Announce Massive 'Hell On Earth' 20th Anniversary Tour

On November 19th, Mobb Deep 's critically-acclaimed third studio album,  Hell On Earth,  will mark its second decade of screwing up necks and faces. And to celebrate, the legendary Queensbridge duo has announced a lengthy commemorative tour, paired with a deluxe rerelease of the album, featuring a grip of unreleased cuts. At the moment, there are quite a few blanks in the venue department, but we imagine they'll be revealing them within the weeks ahead. So far, LA's Viper Room and NYC's Blue Note are the only confirmed locations for the tour. The cities and dates, however, are all available for you to peep down below. We'll keep our eyes out for updates, so check back soon.

Mobb Deep Announces 20th Anniversary Tour Dates [Update: New Dates Added, Alchemist & Boldy James Open]

Mobb Deep announces the dates for their 20th Anniversary Tour.

After announcing their official reunion , Mobb Deep have now supplied us with the first dates for their 20th Anniversary Tour. That's right, it's been twenty years since the duo's debut album, Juvenile Hell, and Prodigy  and  Havoc are bringing in the occasion with 17 planned concert dates.

The tour will kick off May 9th at Chicago's Double Door, and conclude exactly one month layer at The Blockely in Philadelphia.

Mobb Deep Reunite for 20th Anniversary Tour

The Queensbridge duo of Havoc and Prodigy, aka Mobb Deep , have detailed a 20th anniversary tour of the U.S. for May and June. They'll also hit the Paid Dues Festival later this month.

If you recall, last year, the pair were involved in a Twitter battle and Havoc declared that the group was on indefinite hiatus. They seem to have set their differences aside.

Meanwhile, Havoc has a new album, 13 , out May 7. The new track "Gone" can be heard here .

Mobb Deep Is Going on Tour

Mobb Deep is about to get back on the road. Prodigy and Havoc have announced a new tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Mobb Deep's album Hell on Earth .

The duo is also planning to release a deluxe edition of He ll on Earth that will featured unheard songs from their recording sessions. As for the tour, Mobb Deep will be joined by some special guests on select dates. Fellow hip-hop duos Smif-N-Wessun and Tha Dogg Pound are slated to perform with Mobb Deep on a few tour stops.
