Find Your Grand Adventure with a 2024 Guided Tour

2024 guided tours are filling up. find your adventure today.

With an Adventure Cycling Guided Tour, you can count on five things:

  • Curated experiences traversing the histories, cultures, and landscapes of the U.S.
  • A tour type to fit your travel style
  • Small groups of 10-15 participants, except for our larger Fully Supported Events
  • A fully planned trip, without the worry of routing, navigation, or reservations, from an experienced organization
  • Warm fuzzies knowing your Guided Tour purchase supports a nonprofit and its mission, not a for-profit company

We’re excited to hit the road with you!

Our goal is to facilitate a life-changing journey with a Guided Tour that fits your needs. Our Guided Tours provide a range of experiences: long weekend to epic, pavement to dirt, historically focused to earning the scenic vistas. They also come in a variety of lengths and difficulties as well as different levels of support and price points. We offer everything from self-sufficient nights under the stars to fully catered experiences and inn-to-inn options.

Every tour comes with knowledgeable Tour Leaders, routing, navigation, and reservations. All you have to do is participate! Some tours provide opportunities to get to know your fellow riders better, such as group-made meals and grocery shopping, while other types of tours are less interactive. Participation in these small group activities on some tour types is all part of the Adventure Cycling experience.

“Without a doubt, the best part of the tour was the friendships we made. We came from all levels of experience. Everyone was supportive. Every single day, no matter what the difficulty of the day, we laughed.” – Sam, Tour Participant

Types of Tours

We have a variety of tour formats that suit different styles of touring. All come in different lengths and levels of difficulty, which we call Adventure Levels, ranging from Level 1 to Level 5. Generally, our tours have between 10 and 15 participants, with the exception being our larger Fully Supported Events.

Self-Contained This type of touring is all pedal power and no vehicular support. All shared gear is carried by the group, and cooking responsibilities rotate among its members. A majority of nights are spent outdoors under the stars. An indoor stay or restaurant may be sprinkled in just when you need it the most.

Inn-to-Inn This is the type of tour for those of us who prefer the comforts of a cozy bed. As the name suggests, each night is spent indoors. Breakfasts and dinners are enjoyed in restaurants. Although there is no vehicle support, you’ll only need to carry the minimal gear of your clothes, toiletries, basic repair items, water, and a bag lunch for the day.

Van-Supported If you prefer touring without the load of a full set of panniers, but you still love camping, we have a van and trailer to haul your gear. Just worry about pedaling. Carry nothing more than water/lunch/snacks and maybe some rain gear if the weather’s dodgy. You’ll still have fun with your partner rotating on camp cooking duty. But not to worry, on certain tours, there are occasional restaurant meals and indoor stays.

Fully Supported and Family Adventure  Events The top level of support! Meals are catered. Luggage is hauled. Starry night camping for those into tents and motel options for those who aren’t. Water and snack stops along the route. Just enjoy the riding, the scenery, and the people to your front and back. These tours are larger in size (20–50 participants) and staffed by several tour leaders all looking out for you.

Education Not sure you’re ready to take the leap into full-on independent touring? Our Intro to Road and Intro to Gravel Touring & Bikepacking courses help you break down the basics. There’s some in-person classroom work before setting out as a group on a short self contained tour. We also offer Leadership Training Courses for those experienced in bike touring but want to start leading their own groups.

“This was my first organized multiday trip. I was traveling solo and I had a wonderful time. I could set my own pace and never felt rushed. The food was fantastic and there was lots of it! I can’t say enough good things about the leaders. I will definitely sign up for another one.” – Kelly, Tour Participant

Doing Good with Every Pedal Stroke

Adventure Cycling is a nonprofit. Every Guided Tour purchase supports our mission of inspiring, empowering, and connecting people to travel by bicycle.

For nearly 50 years, we’ve been researching and mapping one of the largest bicycle route systems in the world. And we’re not done yet. Our programs focus on making bicycle travel more accessible to more people through mapping short and long routes, hosting educational resources and events, and creating an open, supportive community for all riders.

All of our tours are listed below. If you have any questions, give us a call or reach out through our online chat. We’re here for you — because Your Adventure Awaits!

“ I’ve done a number of tours with Adventure Cycling and loved them all, but this was the best group I’ve been with. The people on this trip were just plain fun. I loved everywhere we got to see.”  — Jeff, Tour Participant “ I love the little towns, particularly Patagonia. Tombstone was interesting but did not get to see much of it. Bisbee is a fascinating and historic community. The roads were generally fine and not too busy. The terrain was sufficiently challenging, but not intimidating for this early season rider who was not in top shape.”  — Stephanie, Tour Participant

Grandmothers, Gravy and Old Bikes

Holiday memories and bikes on a holiday week.

Do you ever feel like today’s conversation is dominated by code phrases?  Who knew, at the beginning of 2020, that terms like ‘Social Distancing’ and ‘Flattening the Curve’ would be commonplace in our daily lexicon?  In 2019, I would have thought that meant biking a safe distance away from everyone else to avoid a crash, or somehow making biking up that huge hill not as hard to tackle!

Why bicycle adventures.

We invite you to join our family. After 40 years of guiding extraordinary bicycle vacations, we have learned that bigger is not better. How do we know that? Easy… Our guests and guides tell us so. It’s the little things that small tours do that just aren’t possible with large group tours. Whether it’s getting to know everyone through shared conversation at dinner, choosing your dinner off the menu, staying in boutique accommodations or having your favorite post-ride refreshment waiting for you at the end of the day. But the best part is having guides that actually get to know you so that each trip feels like your own personalized vacation.

Bikers on the Palm Springs Joshua tour

Enthusiastic, knowledgeable guides, healthy lunches, fine dining, copious brew pubs, good wine lists, spectacular scenery and nearly ubiquitous van support!
A great way to experience a unique part of our world by leaving much of the planning and execution to a group of knowledgable, experienced, and helpful guides.
Great trip! Beautiful scenery, guides are very supportive and accommodating to the various levels of riders. Everyone is encouraged to ride to their comfort level.
It was a great introductory cycling trip for a family of 5 with ages ranging from 7 to 40+. All the kids made friends and loved being together.
It is an amazing way to explore a new place, the routes take to you to best spots, on the best roads, the guides are always there to make sure you are doing OK.

How to watch Paris-Roubaix 2024: live stream cycling online

T here are some bike races you can dip in and out of but the Paris-Roubaix 2024 – known to cycling fans as the 'Queen of the classics' – demands total attention from start to finish.

Anything can happen on the horrendous cobbled roads of Northern France so read on and we'll show you how to watch Paris-Roubaix 2024 live streams from anywhere with a VPN , and potentially for FREE .

This year, race organisers have added an extra two sectors of the hellish pavé that makes the Paris-Roubaix so famous. The total distance raced on cobbles is now 55.7 kilometres, split across 29 sectors, counting down as the race closes in on the famous velodrome in Roubaix.

Starting in Compiegne the total race distance is a huge 259.9 kilometres but it’s the cobbled stretches that really count and especially the five star sectors such as Mons-en-Pévèle (#11), the Carrefour de l’Arbre (#3) and the dreaded Trouée d’Arenberg (#19) which is where the favourites will all want to be right at the front.

Last year’s emphatic winner Mathieu Van de Poel (Alpecin - Deceuninck) returns to try and double up but he will be without his principle rival as Wout Van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) crashed last Wednesday breaking multiple bones. The role of second favourite now falls on the shoulders of the Gent Wevelgem winner Mads Pedersen (Lidl - Trek) who proved that Van de Poel can be beaten.

The one thing you'll want to do is the only thing not to do while driving during solar eclipse

cycling tours usa

The 2024 solar eclipse will shroud much of the United States in darkness on Monday, leaving many people to wonder: Is it safe to drive during the celestial event?

We know Americans should wear certified eclipse glasses when looking directly at the eclipse. And millions of Americans are in the eclipse's path of totality , the moment that occurs when the moon completely blocks the sun's light from reaching us. During totality, the eclipse can be viewed with the naked eye.

The eclipse will begin in Texas at 1:27 p.m. CDT and end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT, but the exact time of the eclipse varies by where you are in its path. If you plan to drive during this time, you may not only have to contend with traffic , but need to take steps to stay safe.

Here's what to know about driving during the eclipse.

Where to get free solar eclipse glasses: Libraries, Warby Parker and more giving glasses away

Is it safe to drive during an eclipse?

It's safe to drive during an eclipse as long as you don't look up at the sky. AAA is telling drivers to be focused on the road if they are operating a car during the total solar eclipse.

"Anyone operating a vehicle should not be attempting to look up at the sky during the eclipse – their eyes should be on the road," said Aixa Diaz, a spokeswoman from AAA.

The automobile insurance company is advising Americans who want to safely view the total eclipse to "find a safe place to park (not on the side of a road or highway) away from other traffic and then wear your eclipse glasses," Diaz said.

Do not wear eclipse glasses while driving

It should go without saying, but authorities are also reminding people to not drive while wearing eclipse glasses .

The Missouri and Texas departments of transportation are both advising drivers to not wear eclipse glasses during the natural phenomenon and to focus on the road.

"Do not wear eclipse glasses while driving," reads a list of safety tips from the Texas department. Thousands people are expected to drive to towns along the path of totality, including Dallas, ahead of the eclipse.

Several state transportation departments  released similar warnings  ahead of the 2017 total solar eclipse. Wyoming's, for example, warned people traveling to the state about how they wouldn't be able to see the road with solar eclipse glasses on.

"When the glasses are worn, a person shouldn’t be able to see anything except the solar eclipse, which is why it is unsafe for a person to wear them when driving," the warning reads.

"Eclipse glasses are for eclipse viewing, not driving. They shouldn’t be treated like normal sunglasses," Diaz said.

Neither qualified through the first round and had to race the Repechage where both claimed the top qualifying position in their respective heats to move through to the Semi-Final. In the Semi-Final, Hankins finished fourth in her heat, narrowly missing the cut for the Final 1-6. During Marquardt’s Semi-Final heat , she led going into the final straight away sprint when a rider behind caused her to crash. The rider was relegated and Marquart would finish the heat in third. In a stunning show of strength, she got back on her bike to complete in the Final 1-6. Martha Bayona Pineda of Team Colombia would win the gold, Luz Daniela Gaxiola Gonzalez of Team Mexico claimed the silver, and Kelsey Mitchell of Team Canada would take the bronze.

In the Men’s Time Trial Jamie Alvord III (King of Prussia, Penn.) and David Domonoske (Palo Alto, Calif.) represented Team USA and clocked the third- and fifth-fastest times in Qualifying to advance to the Final. Paris-Roubaix 2024: How to Watch a UCI World Tour Cycling Livestream for Free

The world's best riders take on the Queen of the Classics.

cycling tours usa

The UCI World Tour heads to the rugged roads of northern France this weekend for the 2024 edition of the Paris-Roubaix.

Widely regarded as the toughest one-day race on the road cycling calendar, Paris-Roubaix features some of the most grueling cobblestone stretches on any of the Spring Classics. The peloton's ordeal eventually concludes after almost 160 miles in the iconic velodrome in Roubaix.

Last year's event saw Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) claim victory in the men's race while Alison Jackson (EF Education-Cannondale) was the 2023 women's race winner.

Below, we'll outline the best  live TV streaming services  to use to watch the Paris-Roubaix live wherever you are in the world.

Max Walscheid of Germany and Team Cofidis riding along a cobbled stretch, while spectators behind a barrier with flags cheer on from the sides at the 2023 Max Walscheid of Germany and Team Cofidis race.

The 256.6km one-day race is known as "The Hell of the North," and these cobblestones might give you a clue as to why.

Paris-Roubaix 2024: Where and when is it?

The 2024 Paris Roubaix Femmes takes place on Saturday, April 6, at 1:35 p.m. CET local time, making it a 7:35 a.m. ET or 4:35 a.m. PT start in the US . For viewers in the UK it's a 12:35 p.m. BST start , while in Australia the action begins at 9:35 p.m. AEST .

The Men's race meanwhile starts on Sunday, April 7 at 11:10 a.m. CET local time, which is 5:10 a.m. ET or 2:10 a.m. PT in the US, 10:10 a.m. BST in the UK and 7:10 p.m. in Australia.

How to watch the Paris-Roubaix 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the race locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to what you want to watch. If your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, non-blackout area. Most VPNs, like our  Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming Paris-Roubaix 2024 using a VPN

  • With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming the 2024 Paris-Roubaix live may vary.
  • If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
  • If you're having trouble after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend  Brave .

USA TODAY 10Best editors and a panel of expert runners compiled a list of their top events, then readers voted for their favorites to determine the winners — and the results are in.

Here are the 10 best half-marathons in the United States for 2024.

Alpha Half Marathon

No. 10: Alpha Half Marathon presented by Naccarato Insurance - Poughkeepsie, New York

This half marathon might be new (it only started in 2023), but it's already turning heads for its course that takes runners across the historic Walkway Across the Hudson, providing incredible views of the gorgeous Hudson Valley. The race is USATF certified, and race weekend includes a pasta dinner and live music the night before the run.

Wegmans Wineglass Half Marathon

No. 9: Wegmans Wineglass Half Marathon - Corning, New York

The Wegmans Wineglass Half Marathon takes place annually in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Starting in Campbell, the point-to-point route winds through picturesque countryside and passes through small towns before finishing in downtown Corning. Runners adore this race for its flat, fast, and scenic course.

Boulderthon Half Marathon

No. 8: Boulderthon Half Marathon - Boulder, Colorado

The Boulderthon Half Marathon has received a lot of accolades. Runners World called it one of the best fall marathons and the best half marathon in Colorado, and it makes a lot of lists for being one of the most beautiful half marathons in the country as well. It's not surprising, given the weather, stunning views of the Rockies, and high-altitude course that races through the foothills of the Flatirons and then finishes in Boulder's historic downtown. The race is famed not only for its scenery but for great logistics, aid stations, and planning. Be sure to apply early because this event sells out every year.

Hippie Half Marathon

No. 7: Hippie Half Marathon - Gregory, Michigan

This late summer race takes place in Gregory, Michigan, and is part of the Run Woodstock weekend of events. For the most part, this is a single-track wooded trail race with lots of ups and downs, climbing a total of 1,138 feet overall. Many of the participants camp for the weekend and enjoy a festive atmosphere complete with live music.

Creep 'N Crawl Half Marathon

No. 6: Creep 'N Crawl Half Marathon - Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock's Creep 'N Crawl is a fun pre-Halloween race that takes place on the paved trails at Two Rivers Park, combing the safety of a smooth track with Arkansas' autumnal beauty. Registration gets you a long-sleeved hoodie, and finishing gets you a finisher's medal and refreshments. The organizers promise all entrants a "wonderfully creepy course and howlin' ghoul time."

RunTheBluegrass Half Marathon

No. 5: RunTheBluegrass Half Marathon - Lexington, Kentucky

RunTheBluegrass Half Marathon is an annual race held in Lexington, Kentucky. Known for being "America's prettiest half marathon," the scenic course winds through picturesque horse farms and rolling hills. In addition, enjoy Kentucky bourbon and cuisine at festive events during the race weekend.

DONNA National Half Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer

No. 4: DONNA National Half Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer - Jacksonville, Florida

The DONNA Foundation, a Florida nonprofit whose aim is to eradicate breast cancer, is the organization behind the National Half Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer. The racecourse runs through Jacksonville's beautiful beach communities and features endless scenic views and fantastic crowd support. Participants receive a finisher's medal, finisher's shirt, and a goodie bag.

Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon

No. 3: Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This big and famous pre-Thanksgiving weekend event takes runners past historic Philadelphia landmarks, through urban neighborhoods, and along the city's waterfronts. It's the perfect course and opportunity to prepare for the full Philadelphia marathon. There are awards for different age groups from 14 all the way to 80 and up, and there's a separate start for those in push rim wheelchairs. The support here is immense, and in the last miles to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you'll be surrounded by cheering spectators — the perfect boost to get you to the finish line.

OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon

No. 2: OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon - Columbus, Ohio

Called the "best tour of Columbus on two feet," you'll get to see all the highlights of Ohio's capital and tour its diverse neighborhoods as the half marathon winds its way through downtown. Perhaps even better than the race itself is the finish line, where a party and post-race concert takes place, with bottles of Corona, margaritas, chicken wings, and pizza as just part of the festivities. More than 12,000 runners and walkers show up for this popular spring event.

OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

No. 1: OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon - Indianapolis, Indiana

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, also known as the Indy Mini, is a half-marathon that takes place annually in Indianapolis, Indiana. The course takes runners through downtown Indianapolis, past historic landmarks and famous sites like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. One of the largest half-marathons in the United States with around 35,000 runners each year, it is part of the larger 500 Festival of events leading up to the iconic Indianapolis 500 car race.

Head coach and creator of the Badass Lady Gang, Kelly Roberts’ pre-BALG fitness routine consisted mostly of struggling through the elliptical and trying to shrink her body. It wasn’t until hitting post-college life, poised with a theatre degree, student loans, and the onset of panic, that she found running. Running forced Kelly to ditch perfectionism and stomp out fear of failure. Viral selfies from the NYC half marathon struck a chord with women who could relate to the struggle, and soon the global women’s running community Badass Lady Gang was born. BALG is about enjoying life with a side of running. Kelly’s philosophy measures success by confidence gained, not pounds lost. If you aren’t having fun, it’s time to pivot. Kelly is an RRCA certified coach and has completed Dr. Stacy Sims ‘Women Are Not Small Men’ certification course helping coaches better serve their female athletes. Over the years Kelly has coached thousands of women from brand new runners to those chasing Boston marathon qualifying times, appeared on the cover of Women’s Running Magazine, and created a worldwide body image empowerment movement called the Sports Bra Squad. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
