What a fun time we had! The staff was really friendly, the boat was nice and the tour was very informative of some history along the waterway and the river. the only thing I would complain about was the music during the first part of the tour. It was just a little too loud, however, we were sitting right next to the dance floor. Overall, it was a great time and we made great memories.

Shannon, Thank you so much for the kind review. I will pass your concern to our staff. Capt. Tony
We chartered the boat for a private fundraiser- Captain Tony and his crew were awesome. We had taken reservations for 80 people for a sunset cruise. Boarding began at 6 pm and the boat left the dock at 6:30 pm sharp. The boat was clean, lots of seating & tables to gather in smaller groups and the bar was extensive. The poor bartender didn't get a moment to stop pouring for the thirsty bunch! The cruise goes through the CB Marina to the Cut and over to the Intracoastal. The sunset was magnificent and the 2 hours on the boat were extremely enjoyable. Our friends had taken the sunset cruise with their kids the week before, and they loved it. I think it's @ 22 for adults and $12 for kids. If you are looking for something to do - this is a great 2 hour adventure. Relaxing. Beautiful. And the chance to see Pleasure Island from a different viewpoint.
Fundraiser charter cruise- Sunset did not dissapoint.

Maureen, we are so glad to hear that the fund raiser was a success. Thank you so much for working with us and so many other to continue the beautification and support of our home town!
The staff was very nice. However there was a large group on the boat who were there to drink and party making it hard for those of us who wanted to sit and enjoy the cruise to do so. I was not able to hear about points of interest etc due to loud music and noise of the larger party. They should let people know that there will be alcohol and a party atmosphere. Otherwise it was a nice trip with a lot to see but just too much drinking and partying going on.
The worst experience I have ever had at the beach. Extremely unprofessional and only care about squeezing every dime out of you they possibly can because they thoroughly enjoy screwing over people on vacation. I will NEVER business with this company again. Oh and they offer ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS after you book as well, your family member could be in a hospital fighting for their life and they still wouldn't give a refund. Steer clear of this place.
Jun 12, 2023
Brian, I can find no record of you requesting a refund. We have always worked with our guests when such a thing occurs. We offer gift cards for future use, rebooking to other days, or full refunds for such an unfortunate event, Please contact me and I will make certain that something wasn’t missed. I want to know who and when you discussed this with. Once I have your full name you will receive a full refund as requested. Capt. Tony
great time with the crew of Island Cruises ! The captain was a great host and his crew could of not been nicer booked the 3pm trip got back for a early dinner and we learned something along the way Well worth your hard earned vacation dollars and time !

Fun little cruise. Good drinks. Comfortable seating. Fun times. Only complaint is the speakers aren't loud enough on the fantail.

Guide to carolina beach’s island of lights.
Immerse yourself in the festive and free-spirited vibe of the Island of Lights Festival, a beloved Carolina Beach holiday tradition. This month-long annual celebration starts the day after Thanksgiving and culminates in a New Year's celebration. Let the festival's signature events make your spirits merry and bright, just like the vibrant lakeside lights and colorful boat parade.
Santa by the Sea
With homes and businesses around the island decked in their festive best, the holiday spirit extends far beyond the lake. During Santa by the Sea , see the vintage seaside Carolina Beach Boardwalk illuminated with dazzling lights. The recurring event takes place on Nov. 25, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 (all Saturdays) this year. Special programs begin at 5 p.m. and feature storytelling, treats, crafts, visits from Santa and more kid-friendly fun
Holiday Parades by Land and Water
The town’s holiday traditions continue during the Carolina Beach Christmas Parade , which is held the Friday following Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., decorative floats, marching bands and more will parade through town, providing an evening of free, family-friendly cheer.
The festivities officially hit the water the following day, Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. with the annual Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla – a Carolina Beach original and a highlight of the Island of Lights Festival.
Elaborately decorated and illuminated fishing boats and pleasure crafts cruise along the Intracoastal Waterway from Snow’s Cut to the Carolina Beach Basin, creating a fantastic display of colorful lights that will wow the whole family. Vote for your favorite boats via text to help determine the winner of the "People's Choice" award. Find additional information on the event’s website .
For prime viewing of the lively water parade, consider reserving tickets for the Island of Lights Flotilla Cruise with Island Cruises . Hop aboard at the Carolina Beach Marina an hour before the flotilla begins and admire the festive lights on homes, docks and decorated watercraft as you float along. Island Cruises’ vessel anchors for passengers to witness the boat procession through the harbor and then joins the parade as it returns to the marina. Plan ahead to book your spot, as this experience typically sells out each year.
Enjoy a front-row seat to the flotilla as you dine on the waterfront patio at Stoked Restaurant . Watch the floating parade pass by while warming up with delicious crab dip and clam chowder. Or, opt to watch from near the Carolina Beach Marina or the Federal Point Yacht Club . Locals often gather at the intersection of Florida and Georgia Avenues, which offers a view of the action from the stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and kayak launch area.
A Seaside New Year’s Celebration
Ring in the new year coastal style with the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration , which rotates between Carolina Beach and nearby Kure Beach annually. This free, family-friendly celebration wraps up the Island of Lights Festival with a night full of dancing and excitement. Festivities begin every New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. and culminate with a beach ball drop at midnight and a display of fireworks.
As you plan your holiday season travels, choose from a variety of lodging options in laid-back Carolina Beach, including many within a short walk or drive of signature holiday events like the Island of Lights Festival. Explore our holiday highlights for even more festive trip inspiration!

Victory Beach Vacations
Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach. When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation. Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott. For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.” Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly. Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier. A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.” Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. Dead whale washed ashore at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge
P EA ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) — A dead whale washed ashore at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Tuesday, according to the U.S. Wildlife Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in North Carolina.
USFWS officials said the whale’s body has been anchored to the shore and biologist will perform a necropsy as soon as tide conditions allow.
This is just the latest in a series of dead whales found along the coast of Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks.
Two whales washed ashore in Virginia Beach in March and officials with NOAA told 10 On Your Side another four whales were found stranded along the Outer Banks between March 5 and March 9.
Anyone who sees an injured or stranded whale, dead or alive, should call the Greater Atlantic Marine Mammal Stranding Hotline at 866-755-6622 or the Southeast Marine Mammal Stranding Hotline at 877-942-5343. They ask anyone who encounters an injured or stranded whale to maintain at least a 500-yard (1,500-foot) distance away from it.

Solar eclipse maps show 2024 totality path, peak times and how much of the eclipse people could see across the U.S.
By Aliza Chasan
Updated on: April 9, 2024 / 5:00 AM EDT / CBS News
A total solar eclipse crossed North America Monday with parts of 15 U.S. states within the path of totality. Maps show where and when astronomy fans could see the big event as skies darkened in the middle of the day Monday, April 8.
The total eclipse first appeared along Mexico's Pacific Coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT, then traveled across a swath of the U.S., from Texas to Maine, and into Canada.
About 31.6 million people live in the path of totality , the area where the moon fully blocked out the sun , according to NASA. The path ranged between 108 and 122 miles wide. An additional 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.
Solar eclipse path of totality map for 2024
The total solar eclipse started over the Pacific Ocean, and the first location in continental North America that experienced totality was Mexico's Pacific Coast, around 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA. From there, the path continued into Texas, crossing more than a dozen states before the eclipse enters Canada in southern Ontario. The eclipse exited continental North America at around 5:16 p.m. NDT from Newfoundland, Canada.
The path of totality included portions of the following states:
- Pennsylvania
- New Hampshire
Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan also experienced the total solar eclipse.
Several major cities across the U.S. were included in the eclipse's path of totality, while many others saw a partial eclipse. These were some of the best major cities for eclipse viewing — though the weather was a factor :
- San Antonio, Texas (partially under the path)
- Austin, Texas
- Waco, Texas
- Dallas, Texas
- Little Rock, Arkansas
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Dayton, Ohio
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Buffalo, New York
- Rochester, New York
- Syracuse, New York
- Burlington, Vermont
Map of when the solar eclipse reached totality across its path
The eclipse began in the U.S. as a partial eclipse beginning at 12:06 p.m. CDT near Eagle Pass, Texas, before progressing to totality by about 1:27 p.m. CDT and then moving along its path to the northeast over the following few hours.
NASA shared times for several cities in the path of totality across the U.S. People could have also checked their ZIP code on NASA's map to see when the eclipse was to reach them if they were on, or near, the path of totality — or if they saw a partial eclipse instead.
How much of the eclipse did people see if they live outside the totality path?
While the April 8 eclipse covered a wide swath of the U.S., outside the path of totality observers may have spotted a partial eclipse, where the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, according to NASA. The closer they were to the path of totality, the larger the portion of the sun that was hidden.
NASA allowed viewers to input a ZIP code and see how much of the sun was to be covered in their locations.
Could there be cloud cover be during the solar eclipse?
Some areas along the path of totality had a higher likelihood of cloud cover that could interfere with viewing the eclipse. Here is a map showing the historical trends in cloud cover this time of year.
You could have checked the latest forecast for your location with our partners at The Weather Channel .
Where did the solar eclipse reach totality for the longest?
Eclipse viewers near Torreón, Mexico, got to experience totality for the longest. Totality there lasted 4 minutes, 28 seconds, according to NASA.
Most places along the centerline of the path of totality saw a totality duration of between 3.5 and 4 minutes, according to NASA. Some places in the U.S. came close to the maximum; Kerrville, Texas, had a totality duration of 4 minutes, 24 seconds.
What is the path of totality for the 2044 solar eclipse?
The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.
Astronomy fans in the U.S. will have far fewer opportunities to see the 2044 eclipse they had on April 8. NASA has not yet made maps available for the 2044 eclipse but, according to The Planetary Society , the path of totality will only touch three states.
The 2024 eclipse will start in Greenland, pass over Canada and end as the sun sets in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Planetary Society.
