Hot Launch C521

Our Review:

Tour Edge has been around long enough to know that players who buy golf clubs in this category often make contact with the ground on their iron shots—sometimes too much contact. A traditional cavity-back iron in appearance, the C521 features a somewhat wider sole with a tiny wing that runs along the center of the bottom of the club. This adds mass low to help get the ball in the air, but the bigger advantage to the wing is helping shots hit slightly heavy behave more like flushed impacts. The topline is on the thick side, but a bevel reduces how bulky it appears at address. The bevel also helps hide a larger overall face area and height that increases forgiveness and potential distance. The undercut in the cavity is more extreme than in its predecessor, the HL4 irons, to lower the center of gravity. Also, extra weight in the toe results in a 10 percent improvement in moment of inertia (stability on off-center hits) compared to the HL4. The stock shaft choices are the Aldila Rogue in graphite and the KBS Max 80—a lightweight, low-kick-point shaft that produces a high trajectory for longer-distance shots. Plus, this iron is one of the best values on our list. Read more >>

Low-handicapper.

The leading edge and sole cut through the turf with ease. You’ll catch a divot, but it won’t slow you down.

Mid-Handicapper

Feels very smooth. Good contact is properly rewarded, but bad contact is not heavily penalized.

High-Handicapper

This club wails. The ball is high and driving, no side motion. Straight is the name of the game. I had no fears of slicing because this club wouldn’t let me.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 E and C Series Irons – Key Takeaways

  • Tour Edge has released two new game-improvement irons – Hot Launch E521 and C521.
  • The Hot Launch E521 irons are designed to offer extreme launch and forgiveness.
  • The Hot Launch C521 irons are designed around competition specifications.
  • Retail price for the E521 is $89.99 per club . C521 is $69.99 per club.

The Tour Edge 521 irons give golfers two choices in the ever-popular game-improvement segment of the market. Continuing the identity of its Hot Launch line, the defining characteristics are value and performance with just enough choice to satisfy the target clientele.

In that vein, Tour Edge believes not all game-improvement golfers are cut from the same cloth. Slower swing-speed players who need every last drop of technology to help increase launch to access more distance will be best served by the E Series extreme-spec E521 Iron-Wood model.

Conversely, the Tour Edge C-series C521 provides medium (or thereabouts) swing-speed players a more “traditional” looking iron. Tour Edge describes the C521 as classically shaped though it’s fair to suggest that self-appointed adjectives are subjective and relative to the product category. To be clear, the so-called conventional geometry of the Tour Edge C521 is a bit like describing a hot dog as the quintessential tube-steak.

It’s contextually accurate.

With that out of the way, let’s zoom in on some finer points of each offering.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Tour Edge E521 Iron-Wood

As with the rest of the Hot Launch line, the “E” stands for “Extreme.” According to Tour Edge, “extreme” is characterized by “a super-low center of gravity (CG), super-shallow faces, offset designs and extremely light premium shafts designed to get the ball launching in the air with ease for slower to mid-tempo swing speed players.”

Basically the array one would expect from any game-improvement set of irons.

As for the term “iron-wood,” Tour Edge asserts that it coined the phrase describing hollow-body irons in 1999. The purpose is similar to that of competing hybrid-irons such as the Cleveland UHX: hybrid-like performance from clubs with lofts traditionally defined as irons.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Hollow Body

The purpose of the 17-4 stainless-steel hollow body is straightforward. The design allows for a thinner face (increased ball speeds) and a low/rear CG placement. Redistributing weight away from the geometric center and around the perimeter helps increase the moment of inertia (forgiveness). A shallow face and heel-biased weighting mitigate the left-right ball flight that plagues so many less-accomplished players.

Professional instruction would accomplish the same. Unfortunately, most golfers who like the sound of a $90 per club club price tag arent’t inclined to spend at least that for one lesson.

E521 HOUDINI SOLE

I get it. Those tasked with finding catchy names for keystone technologies ride a fine line. Too generic and no one notices. Too hyperbolic and it lacks credibility. Tour Edge’s Houdini Sole just feels like it was the product at a meeting where everyone was trying a bit too hard.

At face value, the Houdini Sole is characterized by a more rounded leading-edge mass concentrated low/rear in the clubhead. Compared to the HL4 iron-wood , Tour Edge says the weight is 10 percent lower and 15 percent more rearward.

Given this, short of pulling a rabbit out of a hat or walking through a brick wall, I’m not sure the Houdini Sole is going to spawn any on-course illusions.

What it should do is help produce cleaner turf interaction when you catch a shot a little heavy (hit behind the ball).

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

TOUR EDGE E521 SET OPTIONS

The E521 iron-wood is offered as a seven-piece set and is available in both right and left hand.

Twelve discrete lofts allow golfers an a la carte combo-set option as well.

The stock shafts are KBS Max 80 (steel) and Mitsubishi Fubuki HD (graphite) 50-60 gram, depending on flex.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

TOUR EDGE C521

Quoting Tour Edge’s product literature, “The C Series features premium, state-of-the-art Competition Spec designs with a higher MOI in classically shaped clubs that provide medium-plus swing speeds the ability to launch the ball easily and with added forgiveness and power across the face.”

There’s a good bit to unpack here but it really starts with the whole “Competition Spec” label.

The C521 is the less game-improvement model of the two options. However, it’s probably a reach to think that seriously competitive golfers will opt for this set as opposed to the myriad choices on the market.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

That’s not a knock on the capabilities of Tour Edge C521. It’s more so that Tour Edge is depicting the C521 as something of a “better player” iron, using arguably contrived language.  If anything, this approach could take away from what otherwise is an aggressively priced option with more than sufficient performance for the intended customer.

Tour Edge bills the “incredibly soft” 431 stainless steel material as ideal for generating an “optimal feel.” I haven’t hit the C521 irons so, at this point, everything is theoretical. Moreover, I’m not a metallurgist and I didn’t sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. That said, typically such accolades are reserved for one-piece forged irons and materials like 1025 carbon steel (hello, Mizuno and Srixon). It’s entirely possible that the Tour Edge C521 feels remarkably soft. Or perhaps the sensation at impact is thin and harsh. On balance, it’s probably somewhere in between.

GET FIT FOR YOUR GAME WITH TRUE GOLFFIT™

Unbiased. No Guesswork. All Major Brands. Matched To Your Swing. Advanced Golf Analytics matches the perfect clubs to your exact swing using connected data and machine learning.

C521 DESIGN

As opposed to the hollow-body E521 Iron-Wood, the defining characteristic of the C521 is an undercut cavity. The purpose of the cavity, whether external or internal, is roughly the same: remove weight and redistribute it in a more advantageous location. Again, with game-improvement equipment, that translates as additional perimeter weighting to increase MOI and/or shifting CG to moderate launch conditions. Specific to the C521, Tour Edge puts the number at a 10-percent increase in MOI over the previous HL4 model.

CHAMFERING?

You’re forgiven if you think this term feels out of place. It’s not. This bit of visual trickery involves beveling edges to produce a certain aesthetic. With golf clubs, it usually involves making a topline appear thinner than it really is. The benefit is a more compact look at address which is preferred by, dare I say, more competitive golfers.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

TOUR EDGE C521 SET OPTIONS

The C521 iron model is offered as a seven-piece set in both right and left hand.

It also comes as a pre-packaged combo set including two C521 hybrids and five C521 irons.

The stock shafts are KBS Max 80 (steel) and Aldila Rogue (graphite) 55-65 grams depending on flex.

The retail price is $69.99 each (steel or graphite).

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

FITTING AND 48-HOUR DELIVERY PROMISE

Tour Edge will have 850 fitting locations nationwide which allow for a 48-hour delivery to anywhere in the continental United States. Custom fitting is a loaded term but suffice it to say the experience won’t be as in-depth or resource-intensive (time and money) as what you’ll find at True Spec, Cool Clubs or Club Champion. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, given the likely demographics of the average Hot Launch E521 or C521 irons target audience, it’s probably a good thing.

HOT LAUNCH E521 WEDGES

Golfers who opt for the Hot Launch E521 Iron-Wood will likely look to complete the set with matching wedges. At least that’s what Tour Edge is betting on. There’s an element of common sense here. If your game can benefit from wider soles,  perimeter weighting, and a boost in forgiveness with your irons, why not stick to the same game plan with your wedges?

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

The chief characteristic of the Hot Launch E521 wedges is the Houdini Sole. Tour Edge claims the wide sole and undercut cavity reduces turf interaction by 35 percent. Translation: this wedge won’t dig. Also, with more mass concentrated low/rear, it should help golfers who struggle to get wedge shots airborne and forward. It’s easy for better players to forget how challenging it is to hit something other than a skull or chili-dip off a difficult lie.

A larger overall footprint boosts MOI (forgiveness). While some might feel a bigger club is harder to mishit, I’d side with those who suggest that club-turf interaction is king. Every wedge can do something but there isn’t a single wedge that does everything. The high-bounce E521 should help less-skilled golfers navigate bunkers and dicey lies around the green. The primary downside to such a wedge design is that it’s not ideal for dealing with tight lies. But there’s a good chance the target customer isn’t looking to add a Phil Mickelson flop shot to the arsenal any time soon.

The E521 wedge is available in 52-, 56- and 60-degree lofts in both right and left hand.

The stock shafts are KBS Max 80  Uniflex (steel) and Mitsubishi Fubuiki HD (graphite) 55-60 grams depending on flex.

SOMETHING TO CHEW ON

The context of this release for Tour Edge is intriguing. The first part of 2020 was, from a retail point of view, pretty forgettable. But if there’s a silver lining, it might be that more people are interested in picking up the game. And if you’re going to play golf, you’re going to need golf equipment.

Prior to all of this,  Tour Edge seemed poised with a solution for consumers who weren’t motivated by $500-plus drivers and $1,400 sets of irons. While other equipment manufacturers started touting a value-first mantra, Tour Edge wanted to remind consumers that this has always been something of a sweet spot for the brand.

Hot Launch may not get the equipment gear heads setting calendar reminders. However, it will likely have a tremendous amount to do with Tour Edge’s financial picture in 2021.

If you’re the golfer whose favorite part of new releases is the inevitable price-reduction on the previous generation of clubs, you’re in luck. The Tour Edge HL4 line is already on sale .

The new Tour Edge Hot Launch 521 E and C Series irons are available beginning Nov. 1.

I am playing the C521 in graphite. Switched over from steel irons. I am hitting these clubs 20+ years further than my steel irons. (8 iron 160 yds). High ball flight, ball comes off the face like butter. Best Irons I have ever hit and I have hit them all.

Ol'pal Gary

Like Chuck, i’m in my 70’s with a few disabilities, i’m still trying to get my swing & game close to where it was, before Heart Attack, Hip Replacement, Neuropathy & a few others messed me up. I’ve got the Exotic Driver & 3 wood but as i’m a Lefty irons are very hard to come by. I even wrote to the company why i couldn’t find any Left hands irons in Exotic or even Top line Hot Launch C 521 or E 521 . It’s been quite some time ago & they didn’t get back to me. So i took that to mean they weren’t interested in selling to Left Handers. Both of these offering could find a spot in my bag along with the TE Driver & 3 wood. Chuck you keep on improving your game, i sure will. i just bought a full set of callaway Mavriks & still trying to adjust to them !!

Mike Romano

I too am a senior left-hander. It’s amazing how neglected the left-handed golfer is by equipment manufacturers.

If you think it is tough finding left handed clubs for men, try looking for clubs for a left handed female golfer.

Chuck Worgull

I have played with Tour Edge iron’s for the past 20 plus years. I think it might be time to upgrade. As I am 77 years young, I can’t hit my driver’s 275yrds now, but I can still get it out around 220, and I also have a couple of disability. Neuropathy in my feet which has screwed up my balance and C-3, C-4 & C-5 with six screws plates between 3-4 & 4-5.0. I was an 8 handicap, now I am a 15. I would like to get back to at least a 10 – 12. Do you think that it’s possible?? Thanks for reading about my problems. Chuck

Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 iron, E521 Iron-Woods, wedges

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Tour Edge’s new Hot Launch 521 line of clubs gives golfers two distinct options when it comes to game improvement technologies. The C521 series designed to “Competition Spec” to offer more traditional-looking clubs packed with technology and the E521 series packed with “Extreme forgiveness” to help golfers looking for maximum game improvement.

Along with the drivers , fairway woods , and hybrids , the lines are rounded out with the C521 irons along with the E521 IronWoods and wedges. When you put it all together, the entire line offers 46 different lofts of clubs in right-handed and 20 lofts in left-handed, making it the single biggest launch of clubs it Tour Edge’s history.

“We see these two series as being the best value available in the custom fitting market and that’s exactly why we created our 48-hour custom fitting delivery guarantee. We want to open up the flood gates to custom fitting to golfers who are looking for the  latest in innovation and extremely high performance at logical prices.”  – David Glod, founder of Tour Edge

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Tour Edge C521 Irons

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

The Hot Launch C521 irons come packed with everything you would expect from a game-improvement set of irons along with a few extras. They are made from extremely soft 431 stainless steel to provide tour-level feel as well as the ability to be adjusted for lie and loft easily. This means greater opportunity for custom fitting.

Now speaking to custom fitting and additional options, the C521 irons will also be available in a stock combo set configuration that includes two Hot Launch C521 hybrids.

Technology and design characteristics

Undercut Cavity:  Undercut cavities are a staple in the game improvement iron category and the C Series expanded undercut design helps generate better ball speeds around the face, especially on mishits. The deep undercut cavity also allows for the face to be made thinner which gives designers the ability to move more weight to the sole and help boost the MOI. According to Tour Edge, the MOI of the C521 irons has increased 10 percent compared to the previous model resulting in better dispersion.

Wide Sole Design:  The sole is 15-percent wider than the previous Hot Launch irons for a lower center of gravity. The wide yet newly cambered sole offers improved turf interaction for more consistent shot-making from good lies and bad.

Chamfered Face:  Don’t feel bad, I had to look this up too. To “chamfer” is to ease/reduce sharp edges—in other words, it’s a different way of saying bevel or rounding, which are more common terms in golf club design. The chamfered face around the topline and leading edge give designers the ability to create a bigger clubface for added forgiveness without compromising the looks of the irons.

Power Lofts:  To help golfers gain extra distance and achieve a more desirable trajectory, the C Series irons have been power-lofted, but thanks to the lower center of gravity afforded by the wide soles, the C521’s still maintain higher launch angles. These higher-launching, lower-spinning shots result in steeper angles of descent to help hold greens from longer distances.

E521 Iron-woods

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

For those not familiar, Tour Edge and its hollow body iron-woods have been helping golfers get the most out of their game since 1999. They combine fairway wood and hybrid technology into a controllable and forgiving iron design.

By using the same strong 17-4 stainless steel as the Hot Launch E521 fairway woods and hybrids, designers are able to achieve extremely low centers of gravity to make them some of the most forgiving clubs on the market—and compete with clubs more than twice their price.

Technology and design

Houdini Sole Technology:  The Hot Launch E521 Iron-Woods offer the same Houdini Sole design as the driver, fairway metals, and hybrids to improve turf interaction by 35 percent and boost forgiveness. According to Tour Edge, the center of gravity is 10-percent lower and 15-percent further back compared to the previous HL4 iron-woods, which makes the E521’s the highest launching and easiest-to-hit Iron-Woods they have ever made.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

The key element of the Houdini design is its sharply curved leading edge which has proven to be extremely effective in helping get shots into the air, even from the toughest lies.

“The Houdini Sole becomes a complete life-saver from tight and tough lies,”-  David Glod, Tour Edge founder and lead designer

Hollow-Body:  The hollow-body design brings with it the ability to create metal wood properties in a small and more compact iron shape. The achieved perimeter weighting creates an extremely low center of gravity and really helps golfers on the medium to lower end of the speed spectrum the opportunity to achieve a powerful ball flight.

Cup Forged Face:  The super-thin forged face helps increase overall ball speed around the clubface resulting in higher peak heights, and distance to make it easy to hold greens from longer distances.

Slice-Fighting Offset:  When it works it works and offset is a proven way to help golfers reduce or eliminate the dreaded slice. When paired with the heel bias weighting of the head, you can expect to see less of the right side of the course—or the left side for you lefties out there.

Stock Shafts: Graphite – Fubuki HD 50g L-Flex, 55g A-Flex, and regular flex, 60g stiff. Steel – KBS Max 80 regular and stiff

The E521 irons will retail for $89.99 each and will be available November 1, 2020.

E521 Wedges

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

The Hot Launch E521 Wedge features a super-wide sole that pushes as much weight low in the head as possible to make it easy to get the ball up in the air and stop shots faster around the greens.

The dual-flange Houdini sole offers an abundance of bounce (14 degrees) to allow the wedge to get through almost any lie without the fear of digging or chunking shots. The E521 wedges are available individually or as part of the Hot Launch E521 Iron-Wood set and come in a gap, sand, and lob wedge.

Houdini Sole:  The Houdini Sole with its aggressively curved leading edge reduces turf interaction by 35 percent. This helps the wedges glide through even the toughest lies and significantly reduces “duffs and chunks,” per Tour Edge.

Extra Large Face Design:  Thanks to a deep undercut cavity that increases forgiveness, the wedge faces are able to be made oversized to create an overall larger striking area. This means that shots missed further around the face maintain more ball speed and end up on the green instead of coming up short.

Maximized Grooves:  The grooves of the E521 wedges are maximized to USGA depth and sharpness to provide maximum spin and control.

Mizuno Pro 241, 243, 245 irons review – Club Junkie Review

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Mizuno irons have always been highly regarded and coveted by golfers who place feel high on their wants list. The new Mizuno Pro series irons blend soft and responsive Mizuno feel with some of the latest tech for all-around performance.

With the release of the Mizuno Pro 241, 243, and 245, there is an iron for just about any golfer. I was hitting these irons on a very cold (about 18 degrees) range, so the carry and ball speed numbers are probably not the most optimal, but the signature Mizuno feel was impressive!  For the full review please check out the Club Junkie Podcast below and on any podcast platform.

  • RELATED:  New Mizuno Pro 241, 243, 245, Pro Fli-Hi irons take forging further

Mizuno Pro 241, 243, 245 irons review

Mizuno pro 241 irons.

If you are a highly skilled player or just love blades, the 241’s compact size and single-piece forged construction should lure you in. I think the shape of the 241 is great with a little more of a boxy and sharper toe. Mizuno has really improved the look of the short irons over the past few iron generations, and the PW flows well with the set, not looking too large. The added bounce is welcome for steeper swings or players who play in softer conditions.

Mizuno also created more of a progressive set with flighted long irons for softer landings and more penetrating short irons for added control. The 241 are compact irons, but less intimidating than I expected when I took them out of the box. Feel is absolutely textbook Mizuno with a soft, yet solid feel even with less-than-ideal range balls.

Launch was higher than I initially expected but then I remembered the more traditional, weaker lofts. Distance wasn’t long by today’s standards but it was very consistent. Solid strikes launched through the same window and traveled the same distance every time; mishits were predictable in their distance loss. I was hitting the 241’s pretty well, and my misses weren’t too extreme but you do notice a little larger variation in distance between well-struck and toe misses.

While the launch is high, this is a blade, and it allows skilled players to flight the ball down, hit it high, or right and left very easily. I also noticed that the 241 is a little more forgiving than you might expect. Now, you aren’t going to get away with hitting it anywhere on the face, but slight misses will still probably get to the front of the green. We are stuck on mats here so no way for me to test turf interaction yet, but the added bounce should give steeper-swing players or those playing in soft conditions some added playability.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Mizuno Pro 243 irons

Right out of the box, these seemed a little chunkier than the previous 223 from all angles but address. I loved the look from address as they are a little more rounded and softer than the 241. These might have the widest sole out of the three models, but there is some trailing edge relief that should allow the iron to get through the turf quickly and without added digging.

I liked that the 243 was the highest-launching iron for me and was a little surprised with that since they are a couple of degrees stronger than the 241. I don’t hit a high ball, and the 243 was giving me the best visual window of the group to hit high shots that land softly on the green. The slightly large blade size gives you a little more confidence that you don’t have to be as surgically precise as with the 241, and if you do miss a little, you won’t be penalized for it. Shots off the toe, my usual miss, still carried good ball speed and stayed online better than I expected.

For more of a players cavity design, the 243 was a very straight iron on most misses. Now, if you got far from the center, you would be able to see some distance drop off and more movement to the shot. Strikes made lower on the face still elevated and you didn’t see a huge difference in the launch window on those. The 243 also gave you a little sense of speed with the 4- and 7-irons, not 245 speed, but I felt like the iron was helping add a little to the shot with the longer irons.

Sound and feel were very good as you would expect with a Mizuno Pro iron. Center and close-to-center contact gives you this soft and solid thud as the ball leaves the face and the 243 retains a good amount of that even slightly outside of center. More extreme misses are met with a decent click, but the longer irons are slightly more dampened than the short irons due to the insert behind the face.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Mizuno Pro 245 irons

This is the iron where I think Mizuno made the biggest improvement from the 225. Sound and feel are very subjective, but I felt like the 245 offered a more muted sound and softer feel than its previous version. While the hollow body design doesn’t offer the solid feel and responsiveness of the 241 and 243, it does give the player plenty of both. The face definitely gives the sensation of the ball jumping off it for added speed, but it doesn’t feel uncontrolled.

From my range session with them, the performance delta between good and poor struck shots was small and tight. Center shots left the face quickly and for me flew a little more penetrating and boring into the sky. These have the strongest lofts of the trio, but you still won’t have any issues getting the ball in the air, even with the long irons. The look of the 245 is also really good, giving you that more players compact look and little offset that promotes confidence and comfort.

I loved how straight and far mishits flew with this iron as the hot face was able to make up for my lack of perfection. My shots that were further off the toe than I care to admit still stayed in play as gentle draws instead of big hooks that smaller irons would produce. Striking the 245 a groove or two low also didn’t penalize you with a screaming ball six feet off the ground that runs forever, the iron was still able to elevate that shot and provide enough lift to hit the green and hold it. This iron is going to fit a wide range of players and combo up nicely with the 243 for some added help in the long irons.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

In conclusion, Mizuno really upgraded the Pro iron line without disrupting the DNA of the design. Added playability and forgiveness in the 241 will open that iron up to golfers looking to work the ball around the course. At the same time, the 243 will fit a wider range of golfers who love compact irons but need a little added distance and forgiveness. Players who fit into the 245 will love the performance they expect from a hollow body iron and experience soft feel and sound that you don’t always get with those types of irons.

Its shiny black PVD-finished crown looks nice at address, and it frames the ball well. Impact simply feels solid and powerful. If you’re a decent player on a budget, try this first. But a pricier premium model may well make you happier.

Priced aggressively well for a distance-oriented driver. Impact sound and feel give you the sense you’ve crushed it, even when you haven’t.

Looks, plays and feels like a no-frills driver. Not adjustable.

In this Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 driver review, we assess the performance of this no-frills, entry level driver designed for maximum forgiveness

Tour Edge Hot Launch C521 Driver Review

Tour Edge has long been known for selling decent clubs at a great price. While never cheaply made, its Hot Launch series products have progressively gotten quite good in recent years.

They’re made with top materials and technology, look inviting and sleek, and perform adequately against every other brand. Thankfully, the price remains low.

  • Best Golf Drivers - The cream of the crop
  • Most Forgiving Drivers - Find more fairways

Case in point: This new 460cc titanium driver sells for roughly half the price of the latest, most notable drivers from other manufacturers. And it’s a driver built for distance .

For accomplished golfers, it’s what Tour Edge bills as a “competition spec” game improvement model that works well with medium and faster swing speeds.

It has classic shaping, rear sole weighting, and a high moment of inertia (MOI) to launch the ball easily with power across the face. Speaking of forgiveness, the inside of the face sports 39 different thick and thin diamond-shaped “mini-trampolines” that aim to produce hotter ball flight and minimise the severity of your misses.

This driver is not adjustable in any way. Thus, it’s designed to be all things to all golfers in the target category with respect to performance right off the shelf and it was an enjoyable club to hit from the very first shot.

For instance, it has a visible fixed rear sole weight plug that minimizes clubhead twist at impact while lowering the centre of gravity (CG). This enhances stability and helps launch drives higher - we certainly noticed a higher ball flight than we were accustomed to.

Also on the sole but up near the face, a “power” channel amplifies ball speed, reduces spin, and enhances forgiveness on shots struck low on the face where many better players tend to make contact when they miss.

The deep cup face boosts face flex on hits made toward the heel and toe, one thing we noticed was that off-centre hits weren't punished severely, maintaining both good distance with accuracy when we expected to miss the fairway.

Acoustic ribbing inside the clubhead makes impact sound noticeably crisp without being too loud. And its standard Aldila Rogue shaft is a mid-high launch, mid-spin model.

In other words, this is a textbook Hot Launch-style driver: It packs in a lot of decent concepts, and does everything fine and acceptable, most notably being easy to hit, without being best in class in any regard.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 irons are long and consistent.  A great game improvement iron at an affordable price.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Introduction

As we enter a new year, golf welcomes in a fresh crop of beginners.  At the same time, legions of longtime players are looking to remake their bags.  Almost everyone in both groups is searching for the same thing: more distance.  For all those golfers, Tour Edge offers the Hot Launch C522 irons.

Seeking maximum forgiveness?  Check out the Hot Launch E522 Irons HERE

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

The stout top line is the dominant visual trait of the Hot Launch C522 irons.  There’s also a healthy dose of offset and a heightened heel, but everything is colored by the beefy top line.  Looking down at this iron makes me feel like I’m swinging a sledge hammer – in a good way.  I know that even an imperfect strike is going to do some damage.

In the bag, the Hot Launch C522 irons have a standard game improvement look.  There’s quite a bit of branding – Tour Edge Hot Launch across the middle, C522 on the toe, and Vibrcor closer to the sole.  A deep cavity is somewhat hidden among the numerous levels and finishes.  Two splashes of bright blue round out a fairly busy visual package.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Sound & Feel

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 irons produce a very enjoyable feel at impact .  Striking the ball well feels very solid with just a touch of quick .  This blends harmoniously with a low pitched, medium-low volume impact sound.

Feedback is clear but not painful in both the hands and ears .  The sound of mishits is thinner than pure strikes, but it’s not discordant.  Similarly, off-center shots aren’t as solid, but they don’t sting.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Performance

Tour Edge touts the Hot Launch C522 irons as “high-tech distance iron[s] with enhanced forgiveness for competitive golfers.”  This description is spot on.

The specs on the Hot Launch C522 irons are “Power Lofted” per Tour Edge.  You should understand this to mean that the lofts are very strong.  When you combine these strong lofts with a very low center of gravity, the result is extreme ball speed and distance.  I was hitting the C522 8-iron past my gamer 7I with playable spin .  That second part needs to be repeated: with playable spin.  That extends to the long irons which, when struck well, fly for days but don’t roll forever.

Of course, long is only good if it’s consistent, and the Hot Launch C522 irons are that.  Thanks to the 360 Degree Undercut Cavity and Toe Weighted Design, you can hit the ball thin or off-center and still get a great result .  Ball speed, launch angle, and spin rates were all very robust in my testing.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

Tour Edge also notes the “Wide Sole Design” of the C522 irons.  I noticed the effects of this on both mats and grass.  This iron simply does not want to dig .  If you hit a lot of fat shots, these are definitely worthy of consideration.  The flipside is that the wider sole makes them slightly harder to flight down.

Similarly, the Hot Launch C522 irons want to go straight or draw slightly .  If you like point-and-shoot irons, these are going to hit the mark for you.  I was able to hit cuts and lower the trajectory, but it took some effort as that’s not what these are built for.

Tour Edge offers the Hot Launch C522 with two stock shaft options .  If you want steel, there’s the KBS Max 80, a fairly lightweight option.  For players seeking to cut even more weight, the graphite shaft is the Mitsubishi Fubuki HL.  Depending on the flex, this shaft weighs between 50 and 60 grams.

tour edge golf hot launch c521 wedge

In the past, Tour Edge has bragged that “Pound for pound, nothing else comes close.”  I humbly submit a slightly modified version for the Hot Launch C522 irons: “The dollar-for-dollar distance champ.”  If you’re looking for a long, forgiving iron that isn’t going to break the bank, you are not going to find anything better.

How would you compare these to the Cleveland XL launchers you tested in terms of dispersion, forgiveness, easy to hit, etc?

' src=

They’re both in the same range in most respects. I think the C522 will probably be a bit longer for most.

' src=

Getting back into playing more and been looking to update my 1992 Titlesist blades for a few years now but haven’t been able to decide…the C522 irons look like a perfect fit, l like to hit a tight draw and could definitely use a bit more consistency.*

' src=

The C522 look like great irons for an 80 year old golfer like me,

' src=

New irons are in my near future and I’m debating between these and TM M4’s. I know you’ve reviewed both. Any thoughts?

My advice is always to test both and get fit. Both sets are very good, very forgiving.

' src=

How would this compare with my Cleveland Launcher HB turbo irons with graphite shafts? I am 55 years of age.

I have a full review of the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo irons here: https://pluggedingolf.com/cleveland-launcher-hb-turbo-irons-review/

' src=

You are better off getting pxg 0211 dualcore they are 77 a club right now or 770 for 4 they lw. 10 clubs they are great clubs. I’m sure these are ok but pxg took pings engineers and when you order your clubs they are built by those engineers in America not mass produced elsewhere like Titleist TaylorMade etc.

' src=

Price for a full set? Grafhite. 4,5,6,7,8,9 PW and SW. Delivered to Sweden

You would need to contact Tour Edge for the cost with international shipping.

Are these stiff shaft as thats all i use ???…whats the cost for a full iron set with stiff shafts please ???

I tested these irons with stiff shafts.

Whats the cost of shipping full set of irons to England/UK ????

You would need to contact Tour Edge for that information.

' src=

Thanks for the review. They look nice. I would prefer these over the other set.

' src=

Why is it difficult to get your edge irons in left handed Specifications

' src=

How would these compare to the Ping G425’s?

We have a full review of the G425 irons here: https://pluggedingolf.com/ping-g425-irons-review/

' src=

Thank you for your review. I’m a 25 handicapper, deciding on whether to choose the E522 or C522. Is the target of the E522 high handicappers like me or mid…….?

The E is the much more forgiving option. If you see yourself staying in that handicap range, I think the E will probably be more fun to play.

' src=

These sound like great fun, I’d love a set of the C522 irons.

' src=

Would love The C522 irons with kbs 80 max stiff shafts sounds like it would help my game as a senior player. With forgiveness and accuracy.

' src=

Thank for the review. Would love to win these have a buddy who is just starting out, would let him have them.

' src=

I have a horrible back. I got a set of the E522’s. Super forgivng and get the ball up in a hurry whithout digging in. Dispertion is excellent as is spin rate. And all their clubs are guaranteed for life!!! WOW. I dont care if a club looks “chunky”(the rear) as long as it performes and these do.

' src=

I’m in need of irons that will give me more distance while offering forgiveness. After 2 back surgeries I’m always on the lookout for any tech that will help my game. These cavity back irons with a wide sole sound like what I need! I’d use the KBS Max 80 stiff shafts with these.

' src=

Use really been trying to expand the brands I like, or we’ll atleast would like to demo. Tour Edge is really starting to grow on me. This review just nails it home for me. I’m at the point I don’t play nearly as much as I used to, but when I do I want to still have fun and be competitive with my friends. These irons sound perfect for that! Definitely on my list of irons I would love to swing. Thanks for a great review.

' src=

Great review on these forgiving clubs. I might have check these out and at that price point it’s a win win situation. Definitely could use more distance as I’m getting a bit older and losing speed. And forgiveness is always a big plus.

' src=

While as a 17 hdcp the E522 might still be the “smart” option, I’ve never seemed to get along with any sort of hybrid or hybrid style iron so the C522 sound like it would be a good fit. I’m currently using W/S D200 irons and I’m betting that newer designs/tech in this line would offer some more forgiveness.

' src=

These look promising

' src=

Would love to give these a place in my bag. I’ve owned Tour Edge woods in the past, but not the irons. The C522 seems to fit my game better than the E522’s.

' src=

I would love to e able to play the C522, this seems to be the greatest fit for me!!!!

' src=

These look good. I would think this set would help my consistency as I try to drop my handicap.

' src=

Tour edge is a very under the radar brand they are made in the u s a the hybrid model are very forgiving but seem to not quite go as far and a bit chunky around the green I have hit lots of brands tour edge can cater to low handicap and to high handicap players

' src=

Love the review of TE C523. Used to game Bazookas so very familiar with their product (Illinois bias). Gaming older AP1 710s, but the CE22 sounds like a great upgrade.

' src=

The C522’s would be a good fit for me. I need a bit of forgiveness but would like to keep some length as I age. I would like to hit these and see how they feel and react off the ground.

' src=

Enter me for the C522 irons please

' src=

Would love to get my hands on a set to help improve my game!

' src=

I like the c irons, I just can’t get used to the look of the E’s. I’d like the c for the contest

' src=

I’d love to try the C522.

C series please

' src=

How do these irons compare to the Srixon ZX5.

We have a review of the ZX5 here: https://pluggedingolf.com/srixon-zx5-irons-review/

' src=

Are the c522 and 521 midsize ?

I’d say they’re large game improvement, bordering on super game improvement.

' src=

Great review on the C522 irons. They sound very conducive to my game .

' src=

Sign me up for the opportunity to win a set of Tour Edge C522 irons. Thanks for all the reviews you provide us on golf clubs and accessories.

' src=

The C series would really help my game! Thanks!

' src=

Of the two the C522 fit my game the best. At my age the strong loft with thinner face and filled cavity are an advantage for slowing swing speeds. I liked the part describing “less dig”. I live in the Northwest where there is winter golf but there is also a lot of rain so courses are on the wet to very soggy side. I played last Saturday with a day of sun but not enough of them to dry the course. 80% of fairway irons were like playing bunker shots. Club soles that take a nice divot in summer dive deep in soggy wet taking a lot of club speed with it. C522 describe well to fit what I can use all around my iron game. Can use the 4-PW in senior/A flex.

' src=

It would be great to have a set of the C522.

' src=

Luv the c 522! Fits right in with my needs. I now use mavrixs which I find not so game improving and think that this left handed would do better with c 522 from tour edge!

' src=

I’d love to try the C522’s

' src=

I bought what I think was one of, if not the first, Tour Edge offering, the maroon headed Driver, 3 metal and 4 metal several years ago (maybe 25?) Still swing the 4 metal! Would love to try the C522’s with the graphite shafts, would seem to be a good fit for this aging golfer! Thanks!

' src=

I picked up a Tour Edge C271 hybrid last year and it is by far the best club in my bag. I absolutely crush that thing. I am interested in trying out the Woods and irons and as a 20 handicapper, I think I’m improving rapidly enough that the C series would be a really excellent step up from my Cleveland irons.

' src=

Very nice review, I’m especially interested that these irons retain spin well. I’d be curious to see how these work with the KBS shafts, even if they didn’t fit great for my they’d likely be perfect for my brother.

' src=

I recently purchased the Launch C522 3 wood and love it! At 69 years old, the high launch draw flight these irons and hybrids produce would suit my game perfectly. Do they come in a hybrid set?

' src=

As I’m coming off back surgery, I will need the added distance and forgiveness of the C522s. I’ve also noticed the feel of graphite shafted irons is a bit less jolting than steel. Thanks for review

' src=

Definitely enter me for the C522 set with the graphite shafts! Great looking!

' src=

I saw a review for these clubs on youtube recently and they looked excellent, i think the c522 80 g shaft would suit me.

' src=

I would love these C522s. I really like your review and currently can’t afford new irons. Currently using preowned Taylor Made from 3 generations ago.

' src=

Tour Edge C522 sounds like a great option for us Senior golfers, just the ticket for having fun.

' src=

C522 are what I have been looking for! I’ve had several Tour Edge woods and was pleased with the outcome but I do like to tinker with golf clubs so I’m always trying clubs out. Presently hitting PXG 0211dc and would love to have the C522!!! I always love your unbiased reviews

' src=

I would be a candidate for these irons. 18 handicap needing help and distance.

' src=

A loyal follower of PIG here, including podcasts. Have had Tour Edge woods over the years and currently have a hybrid. As I am on the cusp of turning 70 and would like irons with more forgiveness but don’t need a full set of hybrids, the c522s in graphite would be excellent. Thanks for the opportunity.

' src=

Put me down for the E522 with senior flex graphite shafts. Seventy-one years young and just started playing again after a 13 year hiatus. As a Clint Eastwood character says, ” a man has to know his limitations.”

' src=

Would love the C522 irons

' src=

If I win the contest I would love to have the C522s.

' src=

Tour Edge Hot Launch C522 Irons. Very nice irons. As a 72 year old, I would love to have a set of them. Thank you for the contest!!!*

' src=

at every turn I think that Tour Edge gets underrated for their performance. As far as this category of irons goes, it sounds like these will once again be an amazing set of irons that would help any golfer, namely me, have more fun and score better. I would love to bag a set of C522’s!

' src=

The sound like a good solid set of irons.

' src=

The C522s would be a great one for me! I would like to enter the drawing for those!

' src=

C522 for me.

' src=

I’d love a set of these Hot Launch C522 irons with the Mitsubishi Fubuki HL shafts. They’d pair nicely with my Tour Edge putter!

' src=

I would really like to have the C522 irons. I am a high handicapper and never hit irons that well. Trying to get over shoulder surgery now so I know my score will go up more.*

' src=

Based upon my game I believe the C522 to be a better option for me. Since I have a strong grip and I roll my arms a good bit, the offset might produce a bit too much draw/hook. A flatter lie than standard would probably compensate. Great looking clubs!

' src=

love to own the c522 irons*

' src=

The C522 irons are precisely the clubs I have been waiting for from Tour Edge. They look like distance/players irons (that’s right; not players distance – there is a difference) with a slightly wider top line than anything else in their iron line-up. As a 7 handicap 68 year-old, I must grudgingly graduate to a set of irons that gives me a bit more distance and, I trust, a slightly higher launch angle. I can still swing a stiff shaft, but now need the boost these irons appear to promise. Sign me up!

' src=

Looks like the C522’s are more my fit. I’d love to give them a try. It would be an upgrade for sure from what I’m currently playing.*

' src=

I was leaning towards the C’s .Now I’ve made up my mind with those Fubukis . Nice review.

' src=

Sounds like everything that I’d want in an iron: “maximum distance “, “consistent “, “very enjoyable feel”, “ with playable spin”, “does not want to dig”, “draw slightly “. The C522 irons would be a great fit. Please consider me in your Tour Edge Hot Launch Giveaway. Thanks!

' src=

Tour Edge has really targeted senior golfers. I think it’s a smart strategy and as I’m part of that demographic ( age 68) I’m always eager to read the reviews. I have a set of their wedges that I like better than old Callaway X16s. Having said that I’m in a very large senior golf league (160 players) and I don’t see many playing their irons or woods. I would be interested in trying either set but would lean toward the C522s with the Mitsubishi shafts. Call me old fashioned but I just can’t look down at a wedge and see the hybrid bulge.

' src=

C series iron sound great for me. Tour Edge makes great clubs at a great price; really a good value.*

' src=

Would love these irons to increase my distance and get on the par 4 greens in 2. Very keen to reduce my handicap. These clubs seem they would help me do that.

' src=

Please enter me in the give away for these C522s. They look great!

' src=

Definitely would go with C522 over the E522 for my game. Forgiveness, confidence at address, distance gains plus playable spin?! Great combination that should appease many golfers, including yours truly. Thanks for the review and contest!

' src=

Based on the specs for the C522 versus the E522, I got to say the C522 would fit my game better. I would definitely want the graphite shafts as I am 73 years old and my swing speed is slowing down a little more each year. I am currently swinging Callaways that are fitted to be two degrees flat with “senior” shafts. *

' src=

The C522 Irons with the Mitsubishi Fubuki High Launch Graphite shafts would fit my game the best! I’m 68 but have a good Iron Game and could utilize a New Set of Irons. Utilizing my OLD TaylorMade Irons presently. Thank You for the offer and Please continue the emails. JM*

' src=

Please enter me for a set. Thanks!

' src=

Haven’t hit tour edge in 12 or 13 years. When their drivers were the best! Full REFUND if not satisfied!! These irons look good, I will give them a test try.*

' src=

If the C522 irons can hit straight or even have a draw bias then these must be the clubs for me. I presume being a little older now with a slow swing club head speed the graphite shafts would also help for a better trajectory and a little more distance.

' src=

How do I enter for the giveaway irons*

' src=

Thinking the C would be a super set for a gentleman trying to lower his handicap/ thanks*

' src=

I’d love to try the C522 in a stiff flex steel. 5 handicap 71 years young…..*

' src=

The C522 irons would work great with my Tour Edge rescues.

' src=

The C series would be great in my bag. Two years ago I switched out my Ping Eye 2’s for a used set of Tour Edge HL irons. Wow! Straighter and longer! I know technology has made an even bigger difference. As a senior golfer and golf instructor/coach, I would very much appreciate using and promoting these irons.

' src=

I would love to have a free set of C522 irons especially since this great website has already cost me money. (Must resist reviews😀)

' src=

Great review on the C522 irons. These appeal to me.

' src=

I think the C series would be a benefit to me

' src=

The E522 irons are interesting, but I prefer these C522 irons more. I always appreciate the Plugged In Golf reviews. Thanks, Matt.

' src=

Reading your review has convinced me that these irons (C522) would be just what I have been looking for . Heres hoping My choice would be C522 with graphite lite flex shafts

' src=

I would like to enter the competition for a set of irons, and would choose to receive the Hot Launch E522 Irons, if successful, as I believe they would help a high handicapper such as me. I hope to hear from you.

' src=

I would love to have a set of the E522 irons, the looks are amazing and using the irons would be very intriguing.*

' src=

CS522 fits my game better

' src=

Hot Launch C522 definitely want to hit these. Look great and sound like a must hit.*

' src=

C522s for me please. Been a big fan of Tour Edge for a long time and have had their hybrids or 3 woods in the bag for years. Also have used their cb proh 4 iron. Dave Glod makes great stuff.

' src=

I would like to try the C522 irons.*

' src=

Thanks for the awesome review – clear and concise! I’d choose the C522s over the E522s any day. I haven’t gotten used to the hybrid design yet.

' src=

My years ambition is to go from 20 h/cap to get down to minis 12 , I believe the C522 irons fitted with a soft regular shafts .would be a great asset in me achieving my goal by the end of the year, ( 68 years young )

' src=

Thank you for the informative review.

I would be to be considered for a C522 set with my thanks.

' src=

C522 irons would really help my iron game.

' src=

C522 sounds right for me. The Statements that stood out to me in your review were Point and Shoot, Playable spin and doesn’t dig. I also appreciate a company that makes good products at a reasonable price point too! All things I am looking for. Thanks for the opportunity and review.*

' src=

C522 would be for me

' src=

Great reviews of Tour Edge irons. Please enter me for a set of the C522 irons with graphite shafts.*

' src=

C522s fit my game better. Graphite shaft with senior flex. I currently use Cleveland irons and they have always worked great but are over 20 years old so maybe the new technology would be even better.

C522s fit my game better. Graphit shaft with senior flex. I currently use Cleveland irons and they have always worked great but are over 20 years old so maybe the new technology would be even better.

C522s fit my game better. Graphit shaft with senior flex. I currently use Cleveland irons and they have always worked great but are over 20 years old so maybe the new technology would be even better.*

C522s fit my game better. Graphit shaft with senior flex.*

' src=

The C522 iron set would be a great addition to my bag. I had the opportunity to demo these sticks. Great irons. Hope to have them in my bag! The C522 are a better fit for my game.

' src=

The C522s sound like a good fit for my game. Need the extra distance as I’ve gotten older and I rarely try to shape a shot. Please enter me in the contest.

' src=

The E522’s are exactly what I’m looking for

' src=

The C model would be the set I am interested in

' src=

Of the 2 new iron models, the C522 is the one I would choose. It looks like a solid competitor in the GI category.

' src=

I would definitely rock the C series. Tour edge always makes quality clubs

' src=

I would love a set of the C522 giveaway! As a relatively new golfer, I think the E’s would still benefit my game as well… but as my game improves, these C522’s might be a great fit!

' src=

have seen the irons in the club house and really like there looks and feel still gaming my old 2013 mizuno ez irons and ready for a new set always look forward to your reviews, thanks a mil

' src=

As a senior golfer the blades I use fly shorter every season. It’s time to look into game improvement clubs. The C522 irons would probably help a lot.

' src=

I like the wide sole design.

' src=

Oh, how I NEED a set of clubs that “promise” loft and distance. And they look good too!

' src=

C522 please. Graphite

' src=

These would be ideal for my son. Is the power loft idea changing the idea of club gapping, or just marketing.

' src=

Would love a set of the C522 stiff shaft! Love this company that is local to me.

' src=

C522 irons look like a great option for my game.

' src=

looks like a great set if irons. would want the graphite shafts though for weight savings

C522 fits my game better. Graphite shaft senior flex. Currently using Cleveland irons and they have always worked great but are over 20 years old and the new technology could be even better.*

' src=

After reading both reviews, it sounds like the C522’s are similar to my current irons. And until I can break 100 consistently, I’d probably be better off playing with something like the E522’s. Wish me look in the contest!

' src=

Always looking for an edge. Excited to try the Tour Edge E522 Irons.*

' src=

The C522 sound like the exact replacement for my APEX hybrids and my Big Bertha irons. I play 3 times a week and on the Florida fairways the hybrids are hard to hit! Your review indicated the C522 irons have offset, which I need to reduce my fade, otherwise I play the ball further forward in my stance to help close the face during impact . As I continue to review and follow the Tour Edge clubs my impression is changing from a low cost set of clubs to competing with the larger marketing brands. I would like be an ambassador for Tour Edge clubs in the area of The Villages, Florida.*

' src=

Your description of the C522 irons made it sound like they would fit my game very well. I use Tour Edge hybrids for my 3 and 4 iron and have had good success with them – the irons would be a nice complement for my bag.

' src=

C522 seems like they would be a good fit

' src=

I especially like the forgiveness along with the extra distance. The C522 irons would be perfect for my game.

' src=

I’m looking for help with my game. The Tour Edge e irons might do the trick

' src=

These irons look awesome and put you in attack mode. I’d love to get more distance as I’m a senior and could use all the help they afford.

' src=

I would definitely like to win a set of C522 irons. My 22 year old Ping I3 Blades with X stiff shafts need to be donated to the Smithsonian! At age 66, I’m needing a little love from my irons. Plus I like the available custom length, like angle, and grip size options.

' src=

I would love a set of the C522 irons.

' src=

Excellent review. Will definitely take a serious look at these clubs.

' src=

The review of the C522 from Tour Edge seems like a tool I could use to lower my 19 handicap. I would love a set with graphite shafts.

' src=

Leaving a comment to shamelessly enter the iron set giveaway 😉😄😄

Tried a demo of a Tour Edge iron a few years ago and unfortunately it came with the wrong shaft (steel, stiff and I play graphite, regular or even senior) so I couldn’t give it a fair shake…….

Have played their fairway woods and really liked them!

Would love to see if the new Tour Edge irons can best my PXGs!!??!! 👍

' src=

I’d love to win the C552. Thanks!

' src=

Would love to win the C522 irons. I just turned 68 and could use an upgraded set of irons that are easy to hit and give me some extra distance.*

' src=

All of my non-irons have ben Hot Launch by Tour Edge for 3 years now and I would love to have the C522 irons (6-SW) in my bag. As an 82 year old I think this would be a great way to start 2022.

' src=

C522, senior flex. Looks like a nice set.

' src=

I would love the Hot Launch C522 irons, I have used tour edge clubs over the years and always been a big fan of the hybrids and the fairway metals so this would be a nice addition to my set

' src=

Would love to try the C522 irons. I have a Tour Edge Putter I really like. These sound like they would be a good replacement for my 10+ year old Nike irons.

' src=

I choose the C522. The C22 looks like a good iron for my game. I like that they minimize sting, have a wide sole, and offer a graphite shaft.

' src=

Looking for a new set of irons my Mizuno are 6 years old. I am not getting any younger forgiveness is what I need. C522 will do .

' src=

Remind me of the Rogue X irons, but with slightly weaker lofts. My first irons were Tour Edge. They have come a long way and these look like they would be fun to play with.

' src=

Looked at tour edge irons a few times. I’m intrigued by their technology. Wide sole should help game or lack there of My driver is exs220 which I really like. Thanks for a chance plugingolf.

' src=

C522 please

' src=

First ever review on PIG, so here goes. You know how your wife brags about how much money she saves you when she comes home with a load of clothes or shoes. Now it’s our chance. Buy these wonderful Tour Edge clubs & tell her how much money you saved her. She’ll probably send you back out to get the Tour Edge driver to save even more. Honestly, the whole lineup of these Tour Edge clubs looks amazing. And as mentioned earlier the price is fantastic. Best “BANG FOR THE BUCK” out there.

PS, don’t enter me into the contest though as I’ve been blessed & actually have the C522s sitting in a cart at TGW.com right now. I’m considering what other Tour Edge stuff I want, I mean need.

Love your reviews, btw.

' src=

c522 is what I need as I get older, I need more distance and consistency.

' src=

The C522 irons would be the best fit for me.

' src=

C522s look like my kind of iron.

' src=

Definitely would like a set of c22 ladies right hand

' src=

Thanks for the dual reviews. I would live a set of the E522. Looks like that is the one tat would benefit me the most.

' src=

Your Edge makes quality equipment that performs exactly as advertised. Would proud to play them!!!

' src=

Would love a set of C522s to improve my game!

' src=

The E522 irons look like the ticket. I learned to golf in the high desert air in New Mexico and i still have trouble getting elevation on my irons. I think that these would help me get the elevation now that I have retired in Georgia.

' src=

I would lean towards the C522i rons. As I’m getting older, I’m not ready to LET THE OLD MAN IN! No offense towards anyone choosing the E522 irons, but I’m not quite ready to give up any extra distance if I can still gain distance from my irons. Great review!

' src=

Have the tour edge pro woods and are fantastic, these would round my bag out nicely! Great to see so many reviews

' src=

522s look very interesting

' src=

I like the look of these. I suspect the feel would be excellent.

' src=

The C522 ‘s appeal to me. I think these equipped with graphite shafts would be just the ticket for an aging golfer like myself. Would love to give them a try.

' src=

I would love to win the c522 irons. They look like a good fit

' src=

The C522’s look the business, would love to take them out for a round.

' src=

I am currently looking for a new set of irons to replace my old Adams. Tour Edge was one of the manufacturers that I was considering. After reading your review I could really see myself playing a set of C522’s. I think it’s great that they can offer a quality product at a reasonable price.

' src=

Matt, your review has me wanting to demo these irons badly. They seem to be just what would fit my game–need more forgiveness and distance–being a “Super Senior”. Sadly, there is no demo scheduled for anywhere near the Florida panhandle and the C522 isn’t yet available on Tour Edge’s Trial program. But, it’s still early in the season, so I have hope.

' src=

C522 would work well for me.

' src=

I am a senior golfer who took up the game late in life. The C522 irons would help me improve even more and maybe shoot lower scores, which would be great. I would be the envy of my golfing buddies if I won these irons.

' src=

I’d like the E522 irons

' src=

If I am lucky enough to win a beautiful set of Tour Edge irons, I would like the C522’s

' src=

Always been curious about the Tour Edge offerings, but have never had a chance to try them out. If I were fortunate to be chosen, I believe the appropriate set would be the C522 set with the graphite shaft stiff configuration, standard lie and length. Thanks for creating the opportunity for a lucky individual, and keep up the great work you all do, as always !

' src=

I would like the tour edge e522 set.

' src=

The C522 look and sound like an awesome iron. I’m sure these would be a real stroke shaver from the get go!

' src=

If love a set of the C522’s to help senior gain back some consistency…

' src=

Can’t believe how strong the lofts are getting. I’d love to have the C522s

' src=

I would love to win a set of the C522. Thanks!

' src=

C522 would be the ones that would fit my game

' src=

C522! 7 handicap currently gaming Titleist 718 AP1’s. Play a Tour Edge 5 wood. Only club that never gets changed out. Could use a little more distance, but for sure more height. Thanks!

' src=

I vote for the C522 . I have been learning with the Tour Edge H3 and HL4. I think the C522 could help me be a little longer. I hit the HL3 TourEdge 7 a very high 150 yds. I really want to try the new driver to see if I can get more yardage off the tee.

' src=

The older I get the more I like Tour Edge clubs, C522’s please.

' src=

I would enjoy playing the C522’s with the KBS max80 shaft. The clubs sound like a blessing for a trench digger.

' src=

My steel shaft EXS may need to give way to some graphite shaft c522, more forgiveness, higher launch, longer and better for my aging hands and wrists… I love Tour Edge!

' src=

I’d love to have the C522 iron in my bag. Those look like they’d produce a ton of confidence at address.

' src=

Presently, I use Ping G400 irons and have been considering the C522 irons to improve my distance and control. At 75 years old much distance and control has been lost. Of all the new iron sets for a high/mid handicapper, the C522 irons would greatly improve my game. Thank you for considering my request!!!

Senior graphite shafts would be the best for my slower swing speed.

' src=

great review as usual, have the TEE hybrid and love it. c522’s please

' src=

Tour edge please. My game needs a boost lol

' src=

The c522 sounds promising, especially because you noted the distance and spin gain from your seven iron versus eight iron shot. It sounds like a year 522 is a more forgiving clubhead. Think I’m past that. Thank you. Oh, and if you would like to ship the clubs to me this weekend I’d be happy to take them, lol.

' src=

The C522 certainly sound like the clubs I need to improve my game especially with the lighter graphite shafts. Without doubt these would look great in my bag and even better in my hands.

' src=

I’d like to see how the C522 with graphite shafts would help my game.

' src=

C522 would be my choice

' src=

I would love to win the Tour Edge C522 irons with graphite regular shafts, I am 74 with a high handicap. I play the short to medium holes in Dothan, Alabama. I have never bought a new set of irons. Tour Edge is an excellent brand.

' src=

I’d love to try the C522’s

' src=

The C522 look great. Have had Touredge fairways for years. Would love these irons in senior flex.

' src=

Not only are these good looking, the engineering premise fits a duffer like me.

' src=

I currently use the Tour Edge Exotic irons (2017?). Would like a full set of C522s. Might look at the C722’s @ a later date. 78 and still trying.

' src=

I recently purchased a set of C522 irons with the Mitsubishi Fubuki Senior Flex shaft. When I received the clubs, I was surprised the shafts were white. Is this unusual?

' src=

Look great! Where can I try them?

Any Tour Edge dealer should have them.

' src=

How do these compare to the Wilson steel D9 in your opinion for a bogie golfer ?

Thanks John

I did not test the D9, but Matt Meeker has a review of them here: https://pluggedingolf.com/wilson-staff-d9-irons-review/

' src=

I am just now getting into golf and have been playing with my husbands former clubs, I can’t even remember what they are, but he just purchased the C522 ladies irons, 5-PW plus AW and a hybrid. I have been able to hit his clubs but have not perfected them.

I am hoping these are going to help me improve my game.

Are these all female clubs?

No, these are not “female clubs”.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 524 irons and wedges: What you need to know

What you need to know: Tour Edge’s Hot Launch C524 irons and wedges are designed for golfers who prefer a more classic cavity-back design. The E524 irons and wedges provide plenty of help by focusing on ease of getting the ball up in the air or, in the case of the wedges, out of the sand.

Price/Availability: The Hot Launch C524 irons and wedges cost $80 per iron while the E523 irons and wedges go for $100 per club. All will be at retail stores on March 1.

1. Feel is the deal

While generally a more traditional cavity-back design, the 431 stainless-steel C524’s wide sole helps on heavier hits while the 360-degree undercut in the cavity works with extra mass in the toe to enhance moment of inertia for better performance on off-center strikes while promoting face flex.

The company also continued down the path of using its VIBRCOR high-grade thermoplastic urethane to enhance feel and promote a pleasing sound. The TPU—10 percent more than in the C523—is placed in the deep undercut pocket to boost perimeter weighting for forgiveness while bolstering speed and enhancing feel.

2. Ready for launch

The E524 hollow-body hybrid irons offer help in a different way, promoting higher launch and draw bias. The company has also taken an aggressive approach to turf interaction by using its “Houdini sole” employed in some of its fairway woods and hybrids to effectively cut through the ground. The raised mass at the rear of the clubhead also helps lower the CG, assisting launch.

The irons also employ a shallow face height to encourage higher launch while the hollow-body design takes that a step further by placing weight low. The offset design helps counter the slice to some degree, as well. All this comes in a new shape that is slightly longer front to back but with a thinner topline.

3. Wedges that work

The Hot Launch irons extend to C524 and E524 wedges. The C524 uses 20 percent more thermoplastic urethane in the undercut pocket to dampen unwanted vibrations. Extra weight in the toe portion of the club expands the sweet spot and assists shots struck high on the face. The wedges are available in lofts of 50 to 60 degrees in two-degree increments.

The E524 wedges feature a wide, Houdini sole designed to make bunker escape a breeze. The sole has been slightly slimmed with more camber added to make it less of a specialty wedge. The deep undercut in the cavity back design frees up the extra mass that's moved low to provide a higher launch while full-face grooves provide plenty of grab on shots around the green. The wedges are available in lofts of 52, 56 and 60 degrees.
