Quetta is the capital of the Province of Baluchistan. It is the most famous wooden landmark used as a sanatorium and was built in the British Raj in the summer of 1892 before entering the federal agent headquarters. Hannah Lake

Lake Hanna, 14 kilometres from Quetta, Pakistan, has an impressive appearance surrounded by mountains. Hannah Lake was built side by side with the reservoir during the British Empire in 1894 and was the starting point of Hannah Lake. The lake’s water source provided a picture of the water mirror in an exposed brown environment. Hazarganji Chiltan National Park is only 16 km from Quetta City , and its purpose is to protect Markhor or Barbary Chiltan goats . Quetta (Urdu: کوئٹہ, Balochi: کویته, Pashto: کوټه) is the capital of Balochistan province in Pakistan . If you are taking the overland route from Istanbul, Turkey to New Delhi, India without going through Afghanistan you will have to pass through Quetta.

Quetta is an excellent base for exploration of Balochistan. Kan Mehtarzai, which at 2224 m above sea level was the highest railway station in Pakistan until the line closed in 1986, is a two-hour drive away. Loralai, the almond bowl of the country, is 265 km away. Besides, there are numerous other valleys that are fascinating places for explorers.

The name Quetta is derived from the Pashto word "Kwatta" which means a fort possibly because it is a natural fort surrounded by imposing hills on all sides. Three large craggy mountains — Chiltan, Zarghun and Koh-e-Murdar — seem to brood upon this town, and there are other mountains that form a ring around it. Their copper red and russet rocks and crests are powdered with snow in winters add immense charm to the town.

Strategically, Quetta is an important city due to its proximity to borders with Iran and Afghanistan . There is a huge military base just outside the city. Historically, Quetta owes much of its importance to the Bolan Pass which links it to Kandahar , Afghanistan.

Excavations in the Quetta valley have proved that humans have lived there since pre-history. Modern day Quetta is a growing centre of excellence.

The population of Quetta district is approximately two million, and the city has an area of 2653 km 2 .

Climate [ edit ]

Quetta is 1,680 m (5,500 feet) above sea level and enjoys a healthy climate. The temperature drops a few degrees below the freezing point in winter following a typical autumn when the leaves turn golden and then a wild red.

Quetta is known as the fruit basket of Pakistan. Plums, peaches, pomegranates, apricots, apples, guavas (locally called zaitoon), some unique varieties of melon such as "Garma" and "Sarda" and cherries, pistachios and almonds are all grown in abundance. Some pistachios also grow in Qila Saif Ullah. Saffron grows very well and is being cultivated on a commercial scale. Tulips are an indigenous flower of Pakistan. The yellow and red varieties of tulip grow wild in the area.

Pakistan Railways [dead link] runs daily train connections with most major cities in Pakistan. The overnight sleeper Bolan Mail departs Karachi daily at 6PM, arriving afternoon the next day. Another sleeper train, Akbar Express starts in Lahore and runs via Faisalabad and several other cities in Punjab , travel time for the full journey is about 24 hours. Coming from Afghanistan , there is a train departing the border town of Chaman every day early afternoon, arriving later that evening just after 7:30PM.

In theory, there is one international train from Zahedan in Iran . However, over the last few years service has been interrupted several times due to security concerns. Inquiring about the current status before travelling is essential. The train is supposed to depart Zahedan the 3rd and 17th of every month at 10AM, supposedly arriving the next day at 8:30PM. Delays are the norm, the actual arrival time is usually between 3-6 hours after schedule. On some occasions this train might be cancelled, sometimes replaced by bus. As of early 2023 local information suggests this service is only being used for freight for now.

By road [ edit ]

The highway connects eastward to Karachi and westward via Koh-e-Taftan to Tehran, Iran, 1,435 km away. The road to Sibi connects it with Punjab and upper Sindh. The road via Loralai - Fort Monro -D.G. Khan and Multan is a shorter route for Punjab. The Chaman Road is a link between the country and the Afghan border.

The city centre is small enough that a visitor can reach most places by foot. It is a place of ancient monuments, wide tree-lined boulevards and sterling British architecture. Even more compelling, Quetta has a dramatic setting, with a mountainous backdrop on all sides. Most sights can be easily seen in a day: the impressive Archaeological Museum of Baluchistan, the fort or the city’s many colourful bazaars which are great places to buy marble, onyx and some of the finest carpets in Pakistan.

The main thoroughfare and the commercial centre of Quetta is Jinnah Road, where the Tourist Information Centre of Pakistan's Tourism Development Corporation is located as well as the banks, restaurants and handicraft shops. Shahrah-e-Zarghun, a tree-lined boulevard, runs parallel to Jinnah Road, here many important buildings like the Governor's House, Post and Telecommunication Offices are located.

By auto-rickshaw [ edit ]

Auto-rickshaws give Quetta polluted air, and are the most popular and the cheapest way to get around the city but they are rapidly being replaced by more environmentally friendly 4-stroke CNG rickshaws.

From the airport - When you arrive at the airport you will likely be besieged with touts offering you taxis and rooms. It's wise not to book anything through them and arrange a taxi yourself to the hotel of your choice. Some of the mid-range and most top-end hotels offer a courtesy shuttle from the airport.

• Hanna Lake . Overlooking Quetta, approximately 10 km from the city and very close to the Urak, where benches and pavilions on terraces have been provided. Golden fish in the lake come swimming right up to the edge. A little distance away, the waters of the lake take on a greenish blue tint. Right where the water ends, pine trees have been planted on the grass filled slopes. The turquoise water of lake is a stark contrast to the brownish-green hills that surround the area. • Hazarganji Chiltan National Park . Hazarganji means "of a thousand treasures". In the folds of these mountains, legend has it, that, there are over a thousand treasures buried, reminders of the passage of great armies down the corridors of history. The Bactrian, Scythians, Mongols and then the great migrating hordes of Pashtuns, all passed this way. In the Hazarganji Chiltan National Park, 20 km southwest of Quetta, Markhors, have been given protection. The park is spread over 38,437 acres (15,555 hectares), altitude ranging from 2,000 to 3,200 m. Nature lovers, students, scientists and researchers are welcome to visit the park at any time of the year. For overnight stay, accommodation is available at the Forest Department Rest House located five kilometres inside the park. Park Rangers help the visitors to see animals. Festivals [ edit ].

There are religious and social festivals celebrated by the people of Quetta. Two major religious festivals are Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fiter . On these festivals people adorn their houses, wear new dresses, cook special dishes and visit each other. Eid-Meladun-Nabi is another religious festival. It is a celebration of the birth day of the Muslim prophet, Muhammad.

Numerous colourful social festivals are also source of jubilation. Sibi festival that traces its roots to Mehrgarh , an archeological site of ancient human civilization, attracts people from across the country. It is attended by common folk, ministers and other government officials. Folk music performances, cultural dances, handicrafts stalls, cattle shows and a number of other amusing activities. Buzkashi is a peculiar festival showing the valor of Pashtun people. It is celebrated on horseback by two teams that use their skills to snatch a goat from each other.

The main bazaar is on Jinnah Road. Prominent bazaars of Quetta are located on Shahrah-e-Iqbal (Kandahari Bazaar) and Shahrah-e-Liaqat (Liaqat Bazaar and Suraj Gang Bazaar). Here you can find colourful handicrafts, particularly Balochi mirror work and Pashtun embroidery. The Pashtun workers are expert in making fine Afghani carpets, with their pleasing and intricate designs, fur coats, jackets, waist-coats, sandals and other creations of traditional Pashtun skills.

Balochi carpets are made by the nomadic tribes of this area. They are generally not nearly as fine or expensive as the Persian city products, or even the Turkoman tribal rugs from further North, but they are generally better than Afghan carpets and more authentic than the copies of Turkoman and Persian designs that the cities of Pakistan produce. They definitely have a charm of their own. They range from relatively crude rugs that can, with some bargaining, be purchased for very reasonable prices to fine and valuable pieces. Many are small enough for easy transport.

In the old bazaars are old tea-shops, which are the local social clubs. There are also many popular eating houses offering different types of delicacies. Among the popular delicacies is Sajji (leg of lamb), which is tender and is not very spicy. It is a whole leg of lamb marinated in local herbs and spices and barbecued beside an open fire. It is very popular among the locals and is offered with great insistence to the guests. The Pathan tribesmen of the valley also enjoy Landii (whole lamb) and Khandi Kebab. Landhi s a whole lamb which is dried in shade and kept for the winters. Kebab shops are very popular, the best being Lal Kebab, Tabaq, Cafe Farah and Cafe Baldia. They serve Pakistani and Continental food. The Chinese restaurant that is one of the oldest in town is Cafe China. Some of the finest mutton in the country is raised around Quetta. It has a delicious smell which can be sampled in the 'Pualao that most of the eating houses.

There is famous Lehri Sajji house and Mir Afzal Karahi at Jinnah Road. The most famous is the Khadi kebab kebab which is just behind the street at Liaquat Bazaar

The Pashtun people are also known for their refreshing green tea and Dood Pati shops

Very few places can compete with Quetta valley in having wide range of tasteful fruits, exported to all parts of the country as well as abroad. There you can find plums, peaches, pomegranates, apricots, apples, olives, different types of melon, water-melon, cherries, pistachios, almonds and other dry fruits. Saffron and tulip are also grown and cultivated on a commercial scale. The fruits heaven is Urak, called Samaristan meaning the land of fruits in Persian.

• Being an Islamic country, Alcohol is banned but is available for non Muslims. None of the hotels have bars, although at some alcohol can be ordered as room service.

There is a liquor store on the main street though it's difficult to find (it's best to ask your hotel, which should be able to provide directions).

• Quetta is well known for its Kawa (Green Tea) and Shere Chai also known as Dood Pati Chai. Kawa has a unique flavour, and is usually served sweet, lemon and ginger powder are optional additions.
• Sharbat-e-Sandal is a sweet, non-carbonated drink unusually found in markets in summer. It has a good taste and a yellowish-green transparent colour - look out for the black seeds. Served ice cold.

Stay safe [ edit ]

Quetta is firmly planted on the overland to/from Iran route and sees its fair share of travelers, and most don't run into problems. Balochistan gained some media attention as a hideout and winter home for the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and some high-profile wanted men have been captured here. While this may invoke fear in some, you're unlikely to be bothered here, as they're more in hiding and trying to blend in than out starting trouble.

In 2009, the general level of safety for foreigners deteriorated as the Head of the UNHCR office in Quetta was kidnapped and taken to Afghanistan. If you are on an official mission or high-profile business some caution should be exercised.

All in all the people of Quetta are friendly but don't question their religion, culture and tradition. The Pashtuns pride themselves on their tradition of hospitality (milmastia in Pashto) to guests. Just a greeting of Salaam Alaykum will get you far in endearing yourself to people.

Filled with numerous fruit orchards, the Pishin Valley is 50 km away from Quetta. These orchards are irrigated by ‘karez’. There is the attraction of cool waters, i.e. man-made lake with Bund Khushdil Khan (Tareenan).

Ziarat [ edit ]

A visit to Quetta May be considered incomplete without a trip to Ziarat (133 km from Quetta, 3 hours by car), a hill town 8000 feet above sea-level, where the founder of Pakistan Quiad-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah spent his last days. Air-conditioned coach and taxis take anything between an hour or two from Quetta, an ideal and relaxing summer retreat with rows of juniper trees and ever green slopes.

While Ziarat abounds in tall chinar trees and juniper grows wild as does walnut and a variety of other trees, the area west of this hill station leading up to the Afghan border is rocky and barren. The drive through this unfriendly terrain provides one the grim reminder of the fierce tribes who roamed free in the region and kept the British weary and fearful. The border village of Chaman is also a major trading centre for a variety of fruit, a large quantity of which is still brought in from Afghanistan.

Khojak Pass [ edit ]

This pass will lead you directly to the Chaman Border of Afghanistan, 153 km from Quetta. The scenic beauty is simply enthralling. The border journey is to be materialized through Khojak Sheela, a 4 km long tunnel, at an elevation of more than 1945 metres above sea level.

Bolan Pass [ edit ]

Over the centuries several armies from Central Asia and north intruded into the lands of India through this pass. It is a picturesque hilly road, although you may encounter member of Al-Qaeda.

Lak Pass [ edit ]

While cruising through the hilly tract between Quetta and Kalat, you cansee the route to Zahidan, Iran. Koh-e-Taftan and Saindak copper mines are en route.

Harnai Pass [ edit ]

The entire population of Kharwari Baba and for that matter of the entire Ziarat, migrates to Harnai in extreme winter. Harnai Pass, about an hour's drive from Loralai, is just as spectacular as the Khyber Pass near Peshawar.

It is an architectural marvel made of wood with verandahs on all four sides. The roof is hipped and has two chimneys. There are two entrances to the Residency, one from the east and one from the west. Internally, three rooms are on each floor and a staircase is in the middle. The ceilings are wooden with ornate plasterwork. Beautiful gardens surround the Residency, so it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

As you head to Residency, do forget to take a good look at the juniper forest. Every tree in the forest is a world in itself. The forest creates a fantastic view. 

The Quaid-e-Azam Residency is open daily to visitors from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free.

National Park of Hazarganji Chiltan

The word “Hazarganji” means ‘of a thousand treasures,’ which used to be a migrating corridor for the great armies of Bactrian, Scythians, Mongols, and Pashtuns. The park is located 20km southwest of the city and is one of Quetta’s most beautiful places to visit. 

Spread over 325000 acres, it is home to various animals, including tigers, leopards, and bears. The park becomes more scenic with many plants and trees, including cedar and juniper. There are also many hiking trails within the park to explore the area at your own pace.

Today, the Bolan Pass is an important trade route between Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. If you think this route is not recommended because of adverse climatic conditions, the alternative Khyber Pass can also be used, located further north.

There is no definitive proof, but there are a few popular theories about why Koh-i-Chiltan is haunted. One view is that the mountain is haunted by the spirits of the people who died in the genocide. Another thought is that the hill is haunted by the fairies that live there. Some people believe that the fairies are angry because humans have invaded their homes, and they are causing mischief as a result.

Instead of taking the turn towards the Hanna valley, if you go straight through the coal deposits, you will end up at the spectacular spin karez. Spin means white in Pashto, and karez is a native irrigation system. The small lake with calm water gives a perfect view of the reflection of the mountains in the water surrounded by shrubs and bushes. The main entrance of spin Karez is under the control of the Special Forces, and you will need special permission to go through it. However, the lake can be accessed by another entrance only a few seconds away. 

The serene lake is just a 20-minute drive from the Quetta city center, and the fact that it is open all day long makes it even better. The entrance is free for locals and tourists.

Quetta in Baluchistan Pakistan is the province’s capital city and the largest city of the South-Western province of Baluchistan of Pakistan.

Quetta is the largest city near the South West of Pakistan and 11 hours drive from both Islamabad and Karachi.

Quetta Time difference

The city is so far West from the nearest comparable city, it is 33 minutes ahead of Pakistan’s Standard Time (Solar time). But the clocks show the same PST as the rest of the country. That is GMT+5 hours.

What is Quetta Baluchistan like?

When you first approach Quetta city by air, you’d suddenly feel the ground getting browner with a lighter shade. Greenery would be sporadic patches of ever-green Quetta pine trees, only.

Weather of Quetta 

The moment you get off from the plane, pleasant weather, the serenity, quietness and dryness of Quetta will stay with you forever. No one perspires in Quetta, as the humidity remains below 10% all year round. It never gets too hot in Quetta, even in peak summers just because of the near zero humidity and wind blowing through the Valley. It also snows during the month of January every year.

It is a little difficult to travel to Quetta by road, because you’d have to take the Sibi-Bolan route, since the Dera Ismail Khan – Zhob road is still not that well made. It is also difficult to reach Quetta by train, since the travel time is more than 24 hours from Islamabad, since there is no direct track there. Train is still a lot better than driving there. The views on the train are also breathtaking, especially the Bolan Pass.

I love Quetta because I spent my childhood there.

Is Quetta a Valley?

Technically, yes, Quetta is surrounded from all four sides by reasonably high mountain ranges.

The city of Quetta is nestled just below the foothills of the majestic Koh e Murdaar (the mountain of dread). Snow that melts from the top of Koh e Murdaar feeds Quetta city. Quetta valley is protected from all four sides by high mountain ranges, Murdaar, Chilton, Mashlaq and Kuchlaq. No wonder the British India chose to establish their officers’ military school here. Mountbatten was also their alumni here.

Not that it helped Pakistan in any way.

Hanna lake is 30 minutes drive from Quetta Cantonment and is safe for families. This is the place where the Quetta crowd loves to picnic, trek, ride boats and just hang out with friends on holidays.

Urak fruit gardens, waterway and park is 45 minutes from Quetta Cantonment and is also safe for families.

The best part is getting to eat the Apples, peaches, cherries and plums lined along the road.

The local farmers would let you eat directly from the trees.

 Spin Karez Dams

The Spin Karez Dam is also 30 minutes drive from Quetta and has its own guest house. Both Hanna and Spin Karez dams were built by the British India colonials on the streams that were fed by snow melting off Koh e Murdaar mountain range. Due to global warming, it doesn’t snow that much anymore, maybe once every winter, and a few inches. Therefore, not much water collects in these two dams and there is hardly any fish there.

But when the Dam fills, up, life returns to the water with migratory birds from Siberia

Hazar Ganji Chiltan National park

The Hazar Ganji Park is one hours drive from Quetta, the last 20 minutes is on gravel road. Hazar Ganji national park is home to the Chiltan Markhor mountain goats.

These mountain goats look more like the Urial of Punjab, except with straighter horns. There is a beautiful mountain cabin right at the beginning of the Hazar Ganji National park, which you can hire by approaching the forest officer at Quetta town Centre. They even give you cooks to make Dam Pukht mutton roast, along with a park ranger for protection.

The park ranger looks more menacing than any terrorist that could come across. Lots of women and families visit this park to enjoy on weekends.

Guys, along with their crates of holy water, and peace pipes love this site isolated from prying eyes.

Ziarat Hill station and Fruit Farms

It takes 3 hours to reach Ziarat from Quetta. The road is perfect and safe. Ziarat is home to the oldest juniper tree forest in all of Pakistan.

This is not because Pakistanis have chopped down everything else. Ziarat receives very little rainfall all year round and it snows once a year. Hence, this Ziarat juniper pine wood is dense and naturally protected because of the dryness.

Ziarat Tangi

The few water reservoirs that have been dammed up are actually Tangi or narrow gorges, through with rainwater and melted snow has been flowing through for ages. These Tangis have helped locals raise fruit farms with the tastiest peach, plum, cherries, apple that I have ever tasted. 

Ziarat Kharwari Baba Shrine

Ziarat has a Kharwari baba shrine in one of these gorges that you’d have to drive down towards from top of the mountain.

Ziarat Quaid e Azam Residency

Then there is the Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s guest house, where the poor guy was banished by blood sucking Pakistani elite that are still at it in this wretched country.

Mashlaq Mountain Top

At the opposite end of Quetta Valley is the  Mushlaq mountain top drive will take at least three hours, as the last hour will be dust and gravel track to the top.

Mashlaq mountain range protects Quetta valley from the Western side. One a narrow passage allows vehicles through. There is a dirt road that leads to Mashlaq top.

From the top you can see the complete Quetta Valley and straight run to Shorawak, Afghanistan on the other side. During the Afghan war, the bombs that hit Shorawak could be heard all the way to this mountain top.

The night sky from Mushlaq top is something you’d have never seen before.

Karkuli wool Sheep

The Karakuli wool sheep are raised at Mushlaq range and have the finest wool used to make caps and high value products

Hiking at Mushlaq

Mashlaq top is part of the Hazar Ganji Chiltan national park, so it’s an excellent place to hike. Just don’t forget to mark you ground features, or you’d be lost in the entire wilderness, and would end up spending the night in the open. Not that It’s a bad thing, but it gets very scary and dark at night, with no human in sight for tens of miles. You’d have to wait for a goats herdsman to show you the way next day, while you are starving and thirsty.

Karez of Mushlaq

Did I mention Mashlaq still has the old Karez system of sub soil canal system intact and preserved?

Pir Ghaib waterfalls

Waterfalls of Pir Ghaib are 3 hours drive from Quetta on good road. The last part is gravel road. Pir Ghaib has a metaled road right up to the place.

This is where a local saint was murdered by the local warlord and his disciples believe that he was raised to heaven before that, yawn!

One thing is for sure, these saints really know how to find the best, heavenly places to preach. It also has clear water running through this isolated valley where sunlight hardly reaches and full of date palm trees.

Bolan Pass 

The Bolan Pass is also 3 hours from Quetta. The road is fully metaled.

Ahmad Shah Durrani

Bolan Pass is from where, I believe, Ahmad Shah Durrani came through in 1748 to raid India, and get rich of the spoils of Hindu worker ants collecting gold dust in their temples. This is one of the easier exits from the Quetta Valley into Sindh and Punjab.

The colonial British used the same pass to arrogantly reach deep into Afghanistan

Railway track of Bolan

The dilapidated railway track across the bolan pass is like traveling in a time capsule. Two locomotives, on in front of your carriage and one at the back pull and push you up and through the Pass. You get to see untouched landscapes, beautiful waterways, bridges, tunnels, all that were considered engineering marvels of the time.

They still are marvels for our brain dead elite though, and that makes it ironically interesting.

Ibn e Batuta and Koh e Suleiman

 In the fourteenth century, as per Ibn e Battuta, while traveling along the Indus River commented that the land beyond Koh e Suleman, is abysmal darkness. He belived that It was a two weeks run across bone dry and hot territory, with bandits aplenty, to reach the Sindhu river (Indus) and first signs of civilization in Multan.

Mostly people never reached the next next watering hole.

Come to think of it, the bandits are still there even after 700 years, only the road is a little better. While driving through the Bolan pass, the old British pul and tunnels appear suddenly; this, along with the clear water streams make this Bolan Pass, a must visit place.

9000 years old Mehr Garh archeological site

Mehr Garh is the oldest archaeological site in Pakistan, that was inhabited somewhere around 7 th BC.

The layout of Mehr Garh is better than most of the recent towns in Pakistan.

The only drawback is that Mehr Garh is smack in the Centre of badas* brigand land. 

Samungli Airfield

PAF Base Samungli and its airfield is one hours drive from Quetta city.It is a pleasure to watch aircraft take off from the runway in crystal clear visibility.

If you don’t get permission from the Airfield authorities, just climb up a close by mountain and observe the spectacle in 4K quality

Askari and Quetta Cantonment Parks

Askari and cantonment Parks are full of  pine trees.  These are the only places you see families enjoying time with lady folks.

With their carefully manicured fields and pine trees, Askari and Cantonment Park are a breath of fresh air in a dry and arid place. It’s only here that you realize that Quetta and Baluchistan has women too. The food courts around Askari and Cantonment parks are clean and delicious too. There are some good rides in the parks too.

Spin Boldok Chaman Border post

It takes 3 hours to get to Spin Boldok. Driving out through the Kuchlaq exit of Quetta Valley, you reach Chaman Border Post, called spin Boldok.

This is smuggling central for all of Pakistan.

• Drugs: all sorts are available maybe including Quetiapine for Schizophrenia
• Stolen vehicles
• Electronics
• left over military fatigues

I once bought a Russian soldier’s blood stained wooly cap, during the height of USSR’s invasion of the country, from an Uzbek afghan in Spin Boldok.

now you get NATO and USA’s forces memorabilia.

On the way to Chaman border you’d see how well-entrenched the British were in their fortifications overlooking Chaman, to ensure no barbarians raided their dear Quetta Valley.

Alam Dar Road Hazara town Mari Abad

The Alam Dar road is right behind the Quetta Cantonment. Alam Dar road, as the name sake, is the heartland of fanatically Shia, Hazara People of Pakistan.

With their striking good looks and western looking physique, Hazara people are a novelty in Quetta and much sought after. Lots of dark dudes like me get rich just to snag a Hazara lady.

Alam Dar road is where you’d see civilized, educated, music and arts appreciating people of Quetta. Do be carefully; they are really into martial arts, the bone crushing kind.

The view of Mari Abad from the foot hills of Koh e Murdaar at night in clear weather is gorgeous.

Wali Tangi fresh water Dam

Wali Tangi Dam , is a 2 hours drive from Quetta on a broken road, but it is safe.

The water is crystal clear and it has a stone shaped like an animal.

Khan Mehtarzai highest railway station of Pakistan

This railway station is located at the remotes and the most beautiful sites in all of Pakistan. at 2200 meters altitude, it freezes over in winters.

Liaquat Bazar Hand Knit Carpet Shops

The Handknit carpets of Liaquat Bazar, especially the Kafkaz design ones, are a must to buy.

Quetta Staff College

What can I say about Quetta staff college that hasn’t been said before.

The alma mater of this institution have subjugated and abused the people of Pakistan like no other enemy could have done.

It was designed by the colonial British to produce the most intelligent sociopaths, that love power, and would go to any lengths to attain it – including murdering their own people.

And it has done wonders in this aspect.

Therefore, it must be visited at least once.

Quetta once had a thriving Christian, Parsi, Hindu and even Jewish population. 

I could only reach a few of the Hindu temple s.

Outside of Quetta, the best sites to see are

• Moola Chotak of Khuzdar,
• the Hindu temple of Zhob,
• Coal Mines,
• Drive from Quetta to Karachi
• Chaghi Gold mines
• Gwadar port

Hazarganji Chiltan National Park

Established in the 1980s, the name of the park means ‘of a thousand treasures’, referencing the legendary treasures that got buried here over the years. While there is abundant wildlife to see here, the most famous are the Chiltian Ibex and the Sulaiman Markhor. The park is full of hiking trails, and there is also a small natural history museum located near the park’s entrance.

Located around 125 kilometres from Quetta, Ziarat is a hilltop town with juniper trees and sloping valleys. Some trees in the nearby forest are said to be more than 1,000 years old and are well worth a visit. Other produce of the area includes cherries, apples, walnuts, and almonds. 

The area is most famous for the Quaid-e-Azam Residency, which was the last home of the founder of the nation and one of his 5 homes in Pakistan . Quaid-e-Azam spent the last two months of his life here. The residence is a national monument, but was actually built in 1892 during the British rule and was known as the Ziarat Residency. The place is a must-visit due to its historical importance. Its location places it in the middle of green lawns, orchards, and gardens, coupled with scenic views of the surrounding valleys. Gunmen kill 9 men after abduction in southwest Pakistan, say police

QUETTA, Pakistan - Gunmen shot and killed nine men after abducting them from a bus in a troubled province in southwestern Pakistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran, officials said on Saturday.

No one has claimed the responsibility for the Friday night attack in Balochistan province in Pakistan's southwest.

Separatist ethnic Baloch militant groups in the mineral-rich region have been fighting for decades against the state, saying it denies them their share of regional resources.

Several gunmen intercepted the Iran-bound bus in Noshki district, taking the nine men with them after determining they were from the eastern province of Punjab, said police officer Abdullah Mengal. "All of them were travelling to Taftan," he said.

The victims were shot at close range, he said.

Their bullet-ridden bodies were found from beneath a bridge after one and a half hour, said the district deputy commissioner, Habibullah Musakhail.

Ethnic Baloch insurgents have previously claimed responsibility for similar killings in the region, which is home to deep-water Gwadar sea port being developed by neighbouring China. The insurgents have also targeted Chinese nationals and their interests.

Beijing has invested heavily in regional development projects as part of its $65 billion pledge under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. REUTERS

Gunmen killed nine passengers after abducting them from a bus in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province , senior police officials confirmed on Saturday.

The incident took place in the mountainous Nushki district on Friday night when the bus was travelling from the provincial capital of Quetta to Taftan, a town bordering Iran .

The unidentified gunmen, 10-12 in number, intercepted the bus and took away the nine men after checking their identity cards and determining they were from the eastern province of Punjab, police officer Abdullah Mengal said. "All of them were travelling to Taftan.”

The corpses of the victims, shot at close range, were found under a bridge nearby an hour and half after the abduction, Mr Musakhel said.

No organisation has taken responsibility for the attack so far.

In a separate attack on the same highway, unidentified gunmen fired on a car that tried to force its way through a blockade, killing one passenger and wounding at least four. Dawn reported that both the attacks took place at the same blockade.

Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the killings and vowed to punish the perpetrators.

“We stand with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” he said, according to Radio Pakistan .

Balochistan has long been a hotbed of ethnic insurgent groups that accuse the Pakistani state, dominated by Punjabis, of denying them their fair share of the region’s rich natural resources.

Baloch insurgents have previously claimed responsibility for similar killings in the region, which is home to the strategic Gwadar sea port being developed by neighbouring China . The insurgents have also targeted Chinese nationals and their interests .

Beijing has invested heavily in regional development projects in Balochistan as part of its $65bn pledge to build the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Lightning kills 3 as rain lashes parts of balochistan.

One man and two children were killed in lightning strikes on Friday as rainfall lashed parts of Balochistan.

According to state-run Radio Pakistan , the Met Department said that apart from Quetta, areas including Pishin, Muslim Bagh, and Ziarat were expected to witness showers, while heavy rainfall was predicted in Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Kohlu, Sibi, and Jhal Magsi.

Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy showers were also predicted in Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, and Kalat. Moreover, rainfall was also expected in Turbat, Harnai, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Chagi, Panjgur, Gwadar and Kech.

Today, low-lying areas in Quetta were flooded after heavy rainfall. Rainfall was also reported in Mastung, Kalat, Shaheed Sikandarabad, Noshki, Pishin, Kharan, Qila Abdullah and Kachhi. A dust storm also battered Kalat, hampering visibility in the area.

An update shared by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Jahanzeb Khan said that two children died in a lightning strike in Sorab district.

He said that the PDMA was in contact with its district-level counterparts and other allied departments to monitor the weather situation.

Meanwhile, the Levies control room said that a 22-year-old man was killed in a lightning strike in Pishin.

PDMA urges citizens to exercise caution

In a statement, the PDMA said that the Met department had predicted rainfall in the province. It said that westerly winds would cause rainfall in most districts from today till April 14 (Sunday).

As a result, rain was expected in Jiwani, Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, Lasbela, Hub, Kech, Panjgur, Turbat, Awaran, Kalat, Sorab, Chagi, Noshki, Mastung, Quetta, Chaman, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Barkhan, Duki, Loralai, Harnai, Zhob, Sherani, Sibi and Musa Khel districts.

The PDMA urged the public to take precautionary measures, including staying away from electricity poles and electrical appliances during the rainfall.

“Take special care of small children, the elderly, and the disabled and avoid unnecessary travel in view of the prevailing weather conditions,” it said.

The PDMA also urged citizens to refrain from going near deep waters and dams, adding that those driving vehicles should seek refuge at a safe space during the rainfall or drive slow .

It also called for making arrangements for livestock and to keep storm water drains clean. “In case of any emergency, contact the concerned deputy commissioner’s office, the district Levies control room or the PDMA control room,” it said.

Masked gunmen who killed nine people after abducting them from a bus in southwest Pakistan are being hunted by police as the country's prime minister vowed they would be "punished".

The gang had earlier shot dead two more people and wounded six others in a car, when they failed to stop at a makeshift roadblock.

The deadly kidnapping happened on Friday in Pakistan's Baluchistan province, where separatists have been battling for independence.

Speaking on Saturday, district deputy commissioner Habibullah Mosakhail said the gunmen set up a blockade, then stopped the bus and went through the passengers' identity cards.

They took nine people hostage, all from the eastern Punjab province.

The bus was heading from the provincial capital of Quetta to Taftan, a town bordering Iran.

Police later found the victims' bullet-riddled bodies under a bridge about three miles from the road.

They had been shot at close range.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, expressing his "deep sorrow and regret over this shocking incident".

He offered his condolences to the families of the victims and said he stood by them in their grief, according to a statement from his office.

"The perpetrators of this incident of terrorism and their facilitators will be punished," he added.
