The first sentence is the most important! This is what the reader will see first and your goal is to capture their attention so they click “read more”. If your first sentence is not compelling, they may not read your entire story and you have missed an opportunity to connect with them.

Ask a question. One of the best ways I found to have an engaged audience is to ask them questions in my captions. Everyone loves to talk about themselves and asking them a question is a great way to learn more about your audience and to increase your travel post engagement.

Do not use swear words! The Instagram algorithm is designed to detect swear words and will block your post.

Add a Call to Action. Think about capturing the attention of your readers and directing your Instagram audience to your latest blog post, your Instagram stories, Instagram guides, or anything you would love them to read. An example is “make sure you check out my latest blog post about the best budget hotels in the Maldives. Link in bio.”

Use hashtags beneath your caption. If you add hashtags within your caption, it reduces readability and you have a greater chance of losing the attention of your audience.

Use emojis! Emojis are so fun and are a great way to share emotions in addition to the caption. If you think about it, have you ever skipped a post that started with a broken heart or crying emoji? Jon Rahm took nostalgic trip down Magnolia Lane to get emotions of Masters win out of system | D'Angelo

DORAL — Jon Rahm is tuning up this week for his seventh Masters. But when he arrives at Augusta on Monday, straight from his fifth event since joining LIV Golf, the entire feel will be nostalgic and perhaps surreal.

Rahm is one year removed from the high-water mark of his career, winning the 2023 Masters. The experience was exhilarating and emotional. To be sure his head is clear and his emotions are intact when he returns to Augusta early next week, Rahm attempted to get all that out of his system last week when he took a first trip down Magnolia Lane since donning that green jacket.

"I didn't want the first time back at Augusta National to be tournament week," he said before Friday's start to the LIV event at Trump National Doral. "I wanted to get a lot of those emotions out of the way, and also see the golf course, see if they have done any changes."

But mostly it was a trip down memory lane by reliving how he overcame a four-shot deficit, storming back Sunday after a severe storm cut short play on Saturday, and getting past the chill of seeing his name in the Champions locker room for the first time.

Rahm's win was aided by an unusual Brooks Koepka majors meltdown. An eight-shot swing on the final day, which included 30 holes, prevented Koepka from winning his fifth major, although the Jupiter resident got No. 5 a month later at the PGA Championship.

What it did, though, was allow Rahm's 69 to give him a stress-free four-shot win over Koepka and Phil Mickelson.

"It was very much about dealing with the elements and going about your own business," Rahm said this week.

Rahm playing in anonymity

Rahm's brand never was higher after that win at Augusta. He regained the No. 1 spot in the world ranking with his third PGA Tour win in three months. And although he hit a few rough patches, he was able to carry some of that momentum to the end of the season with a couple of seconds — including the British Open — and helping lead Europe to victory in the Ryder Cup.

Then came the industry-altering announcement that will have an impact on Rahm's legacy forever. The aftershock of Rahm's flip from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf for a deal topping half a billion dollars, including bonuses, was felt around the golf world.

Rahm went from a PGA Tour superstar on a Hall of Fame track to a player now being judged as willing to be bought for the right price. But what made his defection more stunning was the timing, which came as many believed a cease-fire on poaching players had been negotiated as LIV and the PGA Tour were in talks to merge business interests.

Justin Rose called it a "huge coup" for LIV. "He's a big catch and a big loss," Rose said. "He weakens one side and strengthens the other."

Four months later, Rahm has done more for LIV Golf than LIV Golf has done for Rahm ... outside of growing his bank account. The signing has given Greg Norman's league and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV, leverage in its talks with the PGA Tour, and LIV continues to grow its franchises and attract sponsors.

But one area in which the league continues to struggle is gaining acceptance.

And Rahm now is living in anonymity when it comes to his golf. The average golf fan has no clue Rahm has finished no lower than eighth in his four LIV starts. And few care.

Although Rahm does.

"I feel like I have been playing really good golf but not over that hump of winning yet," Rahm said. "I'm confident now, and I'm equally confident on my game pretty much any given day of the year. I think that's how any competitor should be. But this is that difference of how I've been playing the last few months."

And what's different this year when he steps to the first tee Thursday is the pressure of being the defending champion who happens to be No. 3 in the world.

Rahm was in a bit of a slump entering the Masters last year. Despite that hot start, he had an unimpressive three-week run-up to Augusta.

"That month was a bit of a slump, which in a weird way helped going into that Masters," he said. "I was an overwhelming favorite, but Scottie (Scheffler) was still more of a favorite than I was."

All those bets are off this year.

A  severe weather outbreak that caused damage from Texas to the Ohio Valley and the Southeast and led to the death of one person in Kentucky continued for the third straight day Wednesday.

This time, the worst weather happened along the East Coast, particularly in parts of Virginia and Florida.

Due to atmospheric conditions not being as conducive for severe weather, chances for damaging winds, large  hail and tornadoes  are lower than Monday and Tuesday.

“So, we go from a (Level) 4 out of 5 risk now to a 2 out of 5,” FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender said.

“It doesn’t mean you let off the gas pedal. You still think about what those threats can be.”

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center highlighted two separate areas as having the greatest risk of severe weather Wednesday – one stretching from Delaware to northern North Carolina and another extending across North and Central Florida.

A Tornado Watch  has been issued in the mid-Atlantic region but does not include Washington or Baltimore.

Overall, nearly 30 million people in these regions face the risk of damaging wind gusts, large hail and a tornado or two.

What are the storms doing right now?

A cold front continues to march past the East Coast, with plenty of showers and thunderstorms ahead of it.

The storm system is fast-moving, with some thunderstorms moving east at more than 50 mph.

Some of the storms continue to turn severe, prompting warnings for several counties.

The majority of the storms are expected to move off the East Coast by sunset, but the winter weather on the northern end of the storm system will linger through at least Thursday.

April is usually 2nd-busiest month for severe weather

The fourth month of the year typically sees an increase in severe weather outbreaks as seasonal air masses clash over the eastern half of the country.

In fact, April is usually the second busiest for tornadoes, only outdone by May.

A global climate pattern known as El Niño is known to clamp down on severe weather outbreaks in the Lower 48.

The year seems to be following the norms set during previous El Niño events.

Data from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center shows tornado activity for the year is below average, while hail and damaging wind reports are closer to average.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen landed in China this week with a raft of thorny issues to tackle. But it wasn’t her trade policy or stance on the poor state of U.S.-China relations that caught the attention of the Chinese public.

“Watching Yellen use chopsticks, it’s clear she’s a chopsticks master. She definitely eats Chinese food on a regular basis,” one user wrote on the microblog Weibo after news outlets posted a seven-second video clip of Yellen wielding said utensils at a Cantonese restaurant in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Thursday night.

“U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen chooses authentic Cantonese cuisine and uses chopsticks well,” read one headline from state broadcaster China Central Television.

Chinese social media platforms on Friday were awash with details of Yellen’s first meal in China during a week-long visit aimed at improving U.S.-China ties and addressing what Washington sees as unfair Chinese trade practices. Hashtags related to Yellen’s dining choices drew almost 10 million views on Weibo.

The breathless state media coverage of her dining choices or dexterity with chopsticks reflects an effort by Beijing to cast Yellen’s visit in a positive light, especially to an increasingly anti-American Chinese public. It underlines how Beijing sees Yellen as perhaps its best hope for improving trade ties with Washington and helping its own ailing economy.

“Overall, Yellen’s visit to China sends a positive signal regarding the economic and trade relations between the two countries,” the state-run Global Times concluded in an editorial on Thursday . On Friday, Yellen met with the Guangdong governor, Wang Weizhong, and said the United States is not seeking to “decouple” or cut itself off from the Chinese economy.

In a separate meeting Friday with the American Chamber of Commerce, she said she would speak to Chinese officials about unfair trade practices against U.S. businesses. Before the trip, Yellen also said she would raise her concerns that overproduction in China is leading to a glut of exports , especially in electric vehicles and other clean technology.

Details of her visit in Chinese media reports include that Yellen ate at a storied restaurant in Guangzhou frequented by the likes of Chinese modernist writer Lu Xun. She was served a menu of more than a dozen dishes, including roast goose and barbecued pork, shrimp dumplings, iced sweet and sour pork and egg tarts.

“What she ordered was very representative of Cantonese dishes,” a staffer at the Tao Tao Ju restaurant told Guangzhou Daily News.

While the restaurant had arranged a private room for Yellen, her team requested that partitions be taken down so she could eat alongside other patrons, those reports noted — a detail that was confirmed by a Treasury official.

The Guangzhou-based Yangcheng Evening News also ran a profile of Yellen’s enthusiasm for food, including a Yunnan restaurant she visited last year where she ate mushrooms that could have hallucinogenic properties if not cooked properly. (A mushroom casserole was also on the menu at Tao Tao Ju.)

“Official public opinion is quietly changing,” popular commentator and former journalist Zhang Feng wrote in an essay on WeChat . Zhang noted that the soft coverage of Yellen’s familiarity and appreciation of Chinese food — which some commentators attributed to her time in San Francisco — was reminiscent of how Chinese media reported on the visits of foreign leaders in the past.

In 2011, a surprise stop at a Beijing eatery by Vice President Biden was also closely reported: He ordered noodles, steamed dumplings and cold appetizers such as smashed cucumbers.

Still, years of worsening ties, as well as official comments and state media coverage demonizing the United States, have had an impact on Chinese public opinion. Under reports of Yellen’s dinner choices, internet users ridiculed the coverage, asking why there was nothing more substantial to report on.

“How about instead of focusing so much on what Yellen eats, you focus on how they plan to make things difficult for China,” one said.
