Vince Staples is an American rapper originally from Long Beach, California. He is also a member of the Hip hop group Cutthroat Boyz, alongside California rappers Joey Fatts, and Aston Matthews.

Staples had a great start in hip hop after moving in with hip hop collective Odd future's producer Syd Tha Kyd after being kicked out from his house. Since then he has been a frequent collaborator with numerous members of Odd Future including a 2012 mixtape entitled 'Winter In Prague' which was produced entirely by Michael Uzowuru.

Vince appeared three times on Earl Sweatshirt's debut album 'Doris' and after this successful collaboration it was revealed he had signed to Hip hop record label Def Jam Recordings. His most notable feature for this album was on the single 'Hive' which went on to chart at #57 on the US R & B Charts upon release. He also found success on the 'Stolen Youth' mixtape which was a collaboration with Mac Miller and featured guest appearances from Ab Soul and Schoolboy Q amongst others. It was received well by critics and his underground fanbase.

After the release of several successful mixtapes, he released his first official EP 'Hell Can Wait' in October 2014 which features seven tracks and was a complete critical success. Pitchfork Media awarded it an impressive mark of 8.5/10. It featured two singles, 'Blue Suede' and 'Hands Up' which both appeared on the iTunes store.

Live reviews

Vince Staples first gained exposure in music following his verse on Earl Sweatshirt's debut album, a crude verse which perhaps reflected his youth. But the Vince Staples we hear today has clearly developed as an artist, performing with greater authority and maturity than what has come before. Hailing from Long Beach, California, Staples looked to impress when appearing at SOB's (Sounds of Brazil) in New York. It was an intimate atmosphere which allowed the young Staples to flourish, with a real buzz around the room, anxious to see what the rapper was made of. Technically, he delivered his lines with tremendous flow, still with a ferocious energy that made it a truly riveting performance. He played new songs along with tracks pulling more heavily from the Odd Future sound of before. The Odd Future collaboration "Hive" was a highlight, with the crowd singing back the words with enthusiasm. I say singing, it was more like screaming. "Blue Suede," a newer song was equally memorable, showing that Vince Staples definitely has potential to develop into a prominent part of the Hip Hop scene. He is an exciting performer with real lyrical talent and smooth, meticulous flow and definitely one to watch, growing significantly since his younger years.

One third of the hip hop group Cutthroat Boyz, Vince Staples has been identifying himself as one of the most exciting artists to emerge in recent years. The Californian alumni is only 22 years old yet has already guested for Odd Future, Mac Miller and more so his name has been very much in the public domain for a while. Therefore his tickets get snapped up pretty fast despite Vince regularly playing to larger and larger crowds.

The debut album is pending so tonight he entertains with a selection of material picked from his popular mixtape series and early single releases including 'Blue Suede' and 'Guns & Roses'. The stage show is pretty sparse but there is no need for extra production or unnecessary accompanying musicians as the focus is truly on Staples' ability to rap. The speed is pretty incredible at times and even though the underground fanbase try to make themselves known by rapping along to certain tracks, they cannot keep up. This guy is assured to be huge so get tickets whilst you have the chance.

I saw Vince Staples in Portland before Tyler, The Creator performed, and he was great! Vince does not talk a lot, which he admitted during the performance, but you can tell that he really wants to be there. He puts a lot of energy and heart into his performance, and his voice and intonation is really emotional and strong. The lighting and set for his performance also added a lot of emotion, I really enjoyed it. Vince's songs aren't really a bop, if that makes sense, like they're not groovy or pop-y, but the performance feels really powerful. I feel like since the 'headliner' was Tyler, the Creator and the show was in Portland, that not enough people gave Vince love or were really familiar with him, which was a bummer, but I feel like nonetheless, Vince Staples brought a lot of passion and love to his performance and time on stage :)

VINCE FUCKIN STAPLES,

First I want to say fuck everyone else who did not appreciate you, your set was amazing bro great set bro. One of the best shows of 2017. Vince Staples was super energetic, artistic and able to control sold out crowd for more than an hour. Unbelievable that LA rapper is only 23!

With the exception of supporting act - DJ Semtex. The latter performance was cringeworthy, and seemed like a throwback to a really bad school disco. Whoever booked him, should think twice when booking him next time.

Katori Walker who was part of the tour did a great job. He certainly has the potential to be great. As always JPEGMAFIA's unorthodox performance was as entertaining and wild as always. Of course Vince Staples did his thing. He rocked the show at the end. I definitely don't regret going to see him. One of the best young rappers of this generation!

I don't listen to rap music, but my boyfriend took me to this concert and I loved it. I'm an alternative music fan and Vince's sound mixed alt-vibes and visual aesthetics with a rap core. Good performed and a fun night overall. Also liked Kilo Kish and wish I got to see more of her performance!

Absolutely beautiful. Besides the intensity of Vince Staples' songs, the light and visual effects during the show were phenomenal. They elevated his set from just a normal hip hop concert to something spectacular and otherworldly.

Brilliant performance. Kept the audience captivated and excited. Great dancing and S&L paired with a great track list that kept his audience entertained and ecstatic for the next song. Finishing with Norf Norf was brilliant

Great visuals , Vince put on a great performance and the track list had every song that needed to be there , overall great set no complaints aside from the fact that the crowd didn’t mosh hard enough to blue suede
