Travel Director
The best of Switzerland unlocked for you
Experience Switzerland differently. Enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences and uncover local secrets when our friends across the country open their doors to you. Here’s just a sample of the rich experiences you can expect.
Want to explore a Swiss mountain by cable car?
Want to explore Lake Geneva by boat?
Cruise Lake Geneva
On a sunny day, there’s no better way to tour Switzerland than by water. Gaze at the country from its largest lake and learn something new about its shores, choosing a historic paddle boat, passenger ferry or cocktail-sipping sunset cruise.
Discover the 15th-century vineyards of Cave Champ de Clos
The Conne family have been producing wine for centuries in the heart of the UNESCO heritage region of Lavaux. Be hypnotized by rows of terraced vineyards then retire to the stone cellar to taste the vintages they have produced.
Take a horse carriage ride through the Alps and Rosegg Valley
The alps are home to an endlessly romantic trail that can be taken on horse carriage ride. Rug up in blankets for this fairytale experience through alpine forests, arriving at a destination of snow capped mountains and an impressive glacier. The kind of views imagined when dreaming up a Switzerland trip.
Ride up to Stans by Switzerland's oldest mountain railway
Start in Lucerne and travel along tracks from the 1890s, watching villages and views pass by in the window. With wildflower meadows in the summer and snow dusted trees in winter, you will unwind as you wind around the mountains for 30 minutes before reaching the top.
Travel to the heart of Switzerland, Interlaken
The unassuming town of Interlaken is the perfect base to connect with the soul of Switzerland. Explore over 700 hikes which roam into the mountains from your doorstep, with charming isolated villages found sitting between them.
Our top 5 things to do in Switzerland
We'll take you through the pristine natural beauty of this country, with a trip that's filled with moments of awe. Lakes, grapevines and alpine forests prove it's not just the hills that are alive in Switzerland.
Swiss National Museum
There is a reason this is Switzerland's most frequently visited museum of cultural history. Inside, you will immerse in the past and present through some 840,000 objects. From bronze Age bowls to silver knight’s armor, nowhere else will deliver such a rich and comprehensive insight into the Swiss.
Lake Geneva
Charlie Chaplin museum
The property where Charlie Chaplin spent his last years provides an intimate glimpse into the iconic entertainer's life and work. Be moved by a walk through the vast estate, where you will marvel at his original bowler hat and boots, hear tales from friends and touch painstakingly replicated movie sets.
Zentrum Paul Klee
The namesake of this museum is one of the 20th century's most important artists. Step into the space to quietly take in his artworks, you might find yourself lost in the famous cubism inspired 'Insula dulcamara' or colorful jigsaw that the German-Swiss genius was most famous for.
Best museums in Switzerland
There's more to this landlocked country than army knives and chocolate. With Trafalgar, you will gain a deeper understanding of Switzerland through these must-visit museums.
Once a farmers’ breakfast, Rösti is now a plate popular amongst the Swiss. One bite into this crisp baked potato and you will be hooked. Luckily, the country's many regions boast their own versions, offering an excuse to sample many during your tour of Switzerland.
There is more to this classic fare than dipping bread into a pot of melted cheese. It’s a sacred pastime. To the Swiss, fresh bread and bubbling creamy Gruyere is incomplete without one vital ingredient: good company. Indulge in authentic fondue in Switzerland in the company of new friends.
Swiss chocolate
Chocolate aficionados will find no shortage of pleasure in the smooth chocolate of Switzerland. The birthplace of Lindt, Toblerone, Mövenpick and more, a banquet of cocoa will be enjoyed here in the name of culture.
Best food in Switzerland
Baked potato, melted cheese and genuine chocolate. The culinary delights of Switzerland were designed with only the pleasure of taste in mind, and it's an indulgence Trafalgar is only too happy to share with you.
What to pack for Switzerland
Even in summer, layers are vital in Switzerland. Temperatures differ throughout through the country and can get particularly crisp in the higher mountains.
A good quality camera
In a place known for pinch me moments, it would be remiss to forget something more than just a smartphone to capture them all.
Swiss Francs
Switzerland may be at the core of Europe, but this country abandoned the Euro many years ago. Though you can still use them in some larger establishments, but it's better to arm yourself with plenty of Francs so you're never caught short.
A phrasebook
A phrasebook with the national languages of German, French and Italian is essential on a tour of Switzerland. If you really can’t spare the space, download them to your Google Translate app offline.
Walking shoes
If your trip is likely to see you traversing the dynamic landscapes of Switzerland, a pair of sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots should be on the packing list.

Switzerland tours by region.
Breathe in crisp mountain air from the rooftop of Europe. Switzerland tours are unforgettable for many reasons, being especially known for experiences in an environment that you can’t get anywhere else.
Here’s a summary of some noteworthy places you will want to add to your list when browsing our Switzerland tours.
Swiss Alps & Zurich
From the Matterhorn to Stanserhorn, the magnificent Swiss Alps cover 60 percent of the country. A scenic Switzerland tour will take you to Zurich, the world’s capital of banking, on the Limmat River, where you’ll walk the colorful street, Augustinergass and see carved windows of medieval merchant houses.
Lake Geneva
Visit the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva or the home of the International Red Cross. Chillon Castle began as a Roman outpost on the other side of Lake Geneva and later belonged to Swiss nobility.
The mountain resort town St. Moritz beckons with its chic boutiques and cable cars.
Visit Ticino, where Italian is the official language, and stroll along the gentle shores of the Swiss side of Lake Maggiore. Take a delightful short on the lake boat trip while enjoying a Ticino tour to see the gorgeous Isola Bella, famous for its gardens and stunning white peacocks.
Central Switzerland & Lucerne
Central Switzerland is a great place to start your Switzerland vacation, as you can easily get to Lucerne from Zurich. Travelers on Central Switzerland tours want to explore this quaint town, see the melancholic Lion Monument, cross the covered Chapel Bridge, and take a walk nearby Pilatus. If you're looking for a snowy wonderland vacation, travelers love to take Switzerland tours in the winter to experience the magic of Lucerne's Christmas market .
Valais & Zermatt
Board the Glacier Express and continue your Swiss vacation to Zermatt, a southern resort town famous for its skiing and rock-climbing opportunities. Zermatt in the summertime offers many leisure possibilities: try swimming, hiking, or spending a whole day relaxing in the fresh Alpine surroundings. Or take a ride on Europe’s highest cable car to the snow-capped roof of the world for a magnificent panorama of the highest peaks in Switzerland, Italy, and France.
Can't decide which cities and places in Switzerland you want to visit? Make it easier on yourself and start with the Best of Switzerland tour to help narrow your search.

Switzerland FAQ's
Switzerland has a lot to be proud of. The country boasts some of the world`s most famous inventions - they created Velcro, cellophane, the Swiss Army Knife, absinthe, the potato peeler, Helvetica font, LSD, muesli, edible chocolate gold, and milk chocolate to name a few. Switzerland is also famous for it`s beautiful nature and landscape, watchmaking, chocolate, cheese, banks, lakes, and more. One of the best things about Switzerland is all the beautiful nature. Many tourists flock to Switzerland each year just to enjoy the Alps. It`s hard to miss them as they make up about 65% of Switzerland. They are one of the world`s most beautiful mountain ranges. Watches - The watchmaking industry in this country produces watches that are not only technologically advanced but aesthetically appealing as well. Some of the more recognized brands from Switzerland include Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer and Rado. Almost everyone loves Swiss chocolate and cheese, it`s delicious and two of the most obvious products when you think of Switzerland. They offer so many different varieties of each. If you love chocolate and cheese, you`re in luck here! From a business point of view, Switzerland has a great reputation for its banks. It`s not uncommon for foreign individuals to put a lot of their money into Swiss banks simply because the economy is so stable and Switzerland is considered to be one of the world`s best countries to do your banking with. They are also popular for their neutrality. If you have ever hear the phrase, `I`m Switzerland` when getting into a debate, it`s because of Switzerland`s reputation for their no-interference policy. Basically they commonly take neutral stance when other countries have issues with one another. Switzerland also has become known for is their trains, they have several of them that allow tourists and locals alike to easily get from one destination to another. The country makes traveling by train seamless and quick, but even better, is the incredible scenery you see when traveling by this means of transportation. Another famous attribute in Switzerland is the amazing lakes. There are so many different lakes from large to small and they are all absolutely striking with the mountains scattered behind them as a backdrop. Just the scenery in general, no matter where you travel in this country is incredible. This brings us to the small towns and villages tucked away in all corners of Switzerland. Traditional Swiss Houses, beautiful wooden chalets with pointy tops and flowers in their windowsills are scattered all throughout the winding side streets and back roads. And they look just like you see them in the pictures.
Switzerland just may be the most beautiful country in Europe. There`s something about the way the jagged mountains glistens making a picture-perfect backdrop almost everywhere you go. The natural scenery is incredible and the efficient transportation makes it so easy to get around discovering it all. Every town and city in Switzerland offers it`s own unique character. Central Switzerland is jammed packed with history and culture and the pristine landscapes, gleaming lakes and towering mountaintops are just begging to be explore. This is where you`ll find Central Lucerne , a town straight out of a fairy tale with a magical ambiance that radiates through this town. Brunnen , also located in central Switzerland, is a popular vacation resort situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne boasting breathtaking views. This is an ideal starting point for excursions in the central region of Switzerland. Also worth mentioning in this area of the country is the dramatically positioned Burgenstock, considered to be the most luxurious resort town of the region, along with Vitznau and Weggis . The Lake Geneva Region is situated in the Southwest corner of Switzerland encompassing the cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais. Formed by the Rhone, Lac Leman is the largest lake in central Europe. It consists of the Grand Lac to the east and the Petit Lac to the west and covers 225 sq miles; more than half belongs to Switzerland, the rest to France. Here you will discover the beautiful towns of Geneva , Lausanne , Montreux , and Vevey . Northern Switzerland is a region that stretches along the Rhine River and mainly consists of the greater Zurich Area and the great Basel area. If culture and history are your interest, this is a fabulous region for you. You`ll want to be sure to explore the hippest destination, Zurich that is regularly recognized as one of the world`s most livable cities. Also located in this region is the medieval city of Basel the ancient town of St. Gallen , and the well-preserved town of Schaffhausen . The Bernese Oberland Region is an admired and beautiful region south of the Swiss capital of Bern. This Swiss winter wonderland is also a summer playground. In a small area, you`ll find a very diversified landscape where the beautiful towns of Interlaken , Grindelwald , and Wengen are located. With its natural beauty and diverse landscape, the Valais , located in a remote corner of southern Switzerland, is a land of contrasts. Here, you`ll find beautiful glaciers in the valley along the Rhone, majestic four-thousand-meter-high peaks in the mountains, sprawling vineyards, and unspoiled side valleys. Both Zermatt , and Saas Fee are located in this region of the country. The alpine canton of Graubundun is the largest and most easterly canton of Switzerland offering a lot of excitement for every taste. High mountain peaks, remote valleys, small mountain villages - this region is full of adventures and excitement. Chur , the capital of Graubunden, is the gateway to the alpine and loaded with history. Davos and St. Moritz are two other towns you won`t want to miss while visiting this part of the country. The canton of Valais is the southernmost canton in Switzerland, bordering Italy. It is Italian-speaking (the only canton with Italian as the sole official language!) with a Mediterranean vibe. This region offers palm trees, beautiful beaches and blue waters. Similar to Italy, You`ll also find charming alleyways, piazzas, churches and a mixture of city and country with something for everyone! The Swiss Mittelland or the Swiss Plateau is one of the three major landscapes in Switzerland alongside the Jura Mountains and the Swiss Alps. At the heart of this central region lies Bern, the laid-back city that few realize is Switzerland`s capital. You`ll find this entire region offers beautiful countryside with charming villages and plenty of history and cultural attractions to be explored.
The best time to visit Switzerland is during the shoulder seasons, as in April to June and September to October. You can enjoy fewer crowds, mild weather, and lower prices. In fact, the mountain resort towns are almost completely dead. In the spring and fall, you might also get the chance to witness cattle processions that wind through alpine villages. Tourists descend into Switzerland in the summer months to soak up the sunshine and wildflowers that are blooming in the countryside. The snow also typically thaws so you`ll have the chance to hike trails that are often covered. Most mountain resorts open up again but at much higher prices. Winter brings tourist with the love of snow sports. Prices at the slopes don`t typically drop this time of year, but if you are visiting anywhere else in the country you will typically save on hotels and get to enjoy a winter wonderland. For more information on when to go, check out Best Time to Visit Switzerland .
We recommend 7-10 days based on what you want to see and do. We offer flexible vacation packages so you can select your number of nights in each city, desired hotel and activities. We suggest a minimum of 3 nights in larger cities.
By Car: Public transport in Switzerland is fantastic, but a car has its advantages: You can save time reaching smaller villages and experience the thrill of winding up and down an Alpine pass, stopping for photos or picnics whenever you like. Switzerland`s roads are generally excellent and marked by clear. Drivers are well trained. You may only need a rubber bone when driving sharply curving, narrow, steep mountain roads, with impatient locals at your rear; or in cities, where trams and bicycles seem to whoosh into streets out of nowhere. One more note of caution: You`ll never want to drive into the mountains if there`s any chance of snow unless you have proper winter tires or chains. In some areas, chains are required, which will be indicated by a blue road sign with a picture of a tire in chains; the same sign with a red slash tells you when you exit that zone. Attempting to drive down an icy mountain with summer tires can be incredibly dangerous (and you may not be covered by insurance). Most North American rental agencies have offices in the major communities of Switzerland. You`ll save a fair amount of money if you make these arrangements before departing for Europe. You`ll also save a lot of money if you can drive a stick shift rather than an automatic. To rent a car in Switzerland, you generally must be at least 20 years old; if you are not yet 25 years old, plan to pay a higher rate. Your North American driver`s license is all that is needed, but you’ll need an international driver`s license if you drive into neighboring countries. Those are fairly inexpensive and can be obtained at your AAA office before departing. For more information, check out Driving in Switzerland . By Train: Train travel is by far the best way to travel in Switzerland; it’s economical and popular with both locals and tourists. The stations are clean and equipped with a variety of services, while the trains themselves are punctual, equally clean and comfortable. Although smoking is allowed in many public places in Switzerland, the trains are smoke-free. Unless you have extremely unusual circumstances that require private vehicles, get on the train and experience life as the locals do. You`ll be exposed to spectacular scenery and a way of life for most Europeans. Two of the world`s most scenic train routes are the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express , which cross through the rugged mountain landscapes, offering up a vision of Switzerland that just can`t be found elsewhere. This is where you might want to splurge and buy seats in the observation cars for unobstructed view of the Alps. First-class cars are slightly more spacious and provide a better view on the upper level, but second-class tickets will save you quite a bit of money. If you’re traveling with family, children under 16 travel for free in the company of an adult, but be sure to purchase the family tickets. The best investment any independent traveler to Switzerland can make is the Swiss Pass. In addition to train travel all over the country, this valuable pass includes intercity bus routes, ferry boats on many lakes, tour boats on many rivers and admission to multiple museums around the country. Discounts are offered on select cog railways and funiculars, as well as some special events and festivals.
The currency of Switzerland is the Swiss franc, usually indicated as CHF or SFr. While Switzerland is not part of the European Union and thus is not obliged to convert to the Euro, many prices are nonetheless indicated in euros so that visitors may compare prices. Euros are accepted in many places, but you will most likely receive francs in return. US dollars are not accepted.
Switzerland is the world’s only country where there are four national languages. These include French, Rumantsch, German and Italian. English may be spoken at your hotel and in the tourist areas, but not everywhere. We suggest you get a good English-German guidebook and familiarize yourself with common phrases such as hello, goodbye, excuse me and numbers 1-10.

Why should you book a vacation package to Switzerland?
When should you book a vacation package to switzerland.
It all depends on what you'd like to do. If you're into skiing and want to save money, a package in February of March could work out just fine. If you're headed to Geneva or Zurich for a city break, May and June are great times to go, and the early fall is prime hiking season in most lower Alpine valleys.
Where should you stay in Switzerland during your vacation?
For any vacation type in switzerland:.
It doesn't matter whether you travel as a family, alone or as a couple, the Hotel Krebs in Interlaken will be ideal. It's well situated for skiing or summer hikes, while a range of bars and restaurants caters for evening entertainment. Airport shuttles from Zurich take around two hours.
For visitors to Geneva, nowhere beats the Beau Rivage. Blessed with a beautiful location overlooking the lake, it's a short walk from attractions like Saint-Pierre Cathedral and is well-equipped with amenities to enhance anyone's stay. Airport taxis take just 10-15 mins.
For family vacations in Switzerland:
Geneva's Grand Hotel Kempinski is among the city's elite family hotels, with a Sunday children's club taking the pressure off parents, a wellness spa and pool. And it's all around 15 mins from Geneva airport (or 25 mins by bus).
If you're arranging a family ski trip to Zermatt, the Grand Hotel Zermatthof will fit the bill. A classic continental ski lodge, it provides relaxing massages, has three restaurants, an indoor pool and staff who are experts at handling kids. The taxi from Geneva Airport takes about 4 hours.
For romantic vacations in Switzerland:
The Hotel d'Angleterre is a wonderful boutique hotel in Geneva where the rooms are furnished with little touches like bathrobes, extra-soft pillows and iPod docks - creating an intimate, romantic atmosphere. It's handily located in the city center, around 15 mins by taxi from the airport.
The Gstaad Palace is perfect for skiing escapes with the one you love. Located at the base of a stupendously beautiful valley, it has 5 restaurants, a pool and spa which specializes in aromatherapy sessions - ideal for recovering from a day on the slopes. The drive from Geneva takes 2 hours.
For luxury vacations in Switzerland:
Located in the upscale ski resort of St Moritz, the San Gian is everything luxury ski fans could hope for, offering hot stone massages and reflexology, while hooking guests up with secure ski storage and the all-important passes. Zurich airport is around 4 hours away by road.
Cresta Palace is a superb premium ski hotel in Celerina where the deep soaking tubs provide the perfect way to recover from a day on the slopes, and the dining options seem to go on and on. The closest airport is Milan Malpensa in Italy, which is 3 hours away by taxi or hire car.
For budget vacations in Switzerland:
If you're taking your family to Zurich, the Novotel Zurich Airport Messe is both cheap and extremely convenient - as well as being a comfortable, friendly hotel. It has a terrace bar, fitness center and sauna, and is 5 mins from the airport.
Budget travelers can explore the fascinating city of Geneva without paying a fortune by staying at the Hotel des Alpes, where free wi-fi and hearty buffet breakfasts ensure a contented stream of customers. And the 3 mile distance from the airport means that transfers are extremely quick.

11 night trips depart on a Saturday for four nights in Interlaken, followed by three nights in Zermatt and then four nights in Davos.
Day 1: UK to Interlaken
Arrive on your chosen flight into Switzerland and take the scenic rail transfer from the airport to Interlaken (approx. 2 ½ hours from Zurich or approx. 3 hours from Geneva).
Day 2 to 3/4: Explore Interlaken
Interlaken sets you up for many options of adventure, walking and sightseeing as you’re at the gateway of the Jungfrau Mountains, surrounded by stunning blue lakes and the impressive snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Oberland . Take a boat cruise on Lake Thun or Brienz, visit the nearby Giessbach waterfalls or head up to the Harder Kulm for the best views over Interlaken and the spectacular mountains in the distance – this is a great spot for sunset.
Our top tips for your time in Interlaken:
Head high into the mountains on the Brienzer Rothorn steam cog railway or take a nostalgic trip up the Schynige Platte (open from 1 July) from Wilderswil for fantastic views and many great walks.
Take a trip to the Top-of-Europe - the Jungfraujoch - for remarkable views of the longest glacier in the Alps, the Aletsch, and surrounding mountains of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch, plus take a trip inside the glacier at the ice palace. Even the journey there is impressive, with routes via either Grindelwald and the Eiger Express cable car, which whizzes you up the mountain beneath the north face of the Eiger. Or travel via Wengen , with spectacular views of the Lauterbrunnen valley – we recommend travelling there one way and back the other to really make the most of the scenery.
Visit James Bond World and have a prosecco brunch at the Schilthorn above the picturesque car-free town of Mürren – the views up here are really impressive and you can enjoy them from the revolving restaurant, prosecco in-hand. Further down the mountain, the thrill walk at Birg offers the perfect photo opportunity and the quiet villages of Mürren and Gimmelwald are lovely to stroll around.
Adventure lovers will find plenty to do in Interlaken, from speed-boat trips to white water rafting or canyoning. If you’re after a calmer trip out on the water, relax and enjoy a lunchtime boat cruise or hire a paddleboard or kayak for the afternoon.
Day 4/5: Travel to Zermatt
Today, you travel to Zermatt by train, which takes around two and a half hours. On arrival, check in to your hotel and head out to discover this beautiful car-free town, with charming cafés and shops lining the streets. Many of our hotel options have great spas too, so this afternoon may be the perfect opportunity for a bit of relaxation.
Day 5/6 to 7: Explore Zermatt
With nearly 400 kilometres of marked routes, Zermatt’s walking area is huge - opened up by multiple mountain lifts. The pre-bookable Peak Pass gives access to all lifts and opens up the vast walking area above this world-famous town – plus it includes entry to the Glacier Palace and travel on the Gornergrat.
Our top tips for your time in Zermatt:
For the best views of the Matterhorn, a trip up the historic Gornergrat railway is a must. Not far from the top of the lift is the Riffelsee where you can get the ultimate mirror reflection of the Matterhorn on a calm day. There’s plenty of lovely walking options up here too.
Head up high to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, where you can visit the ice palace, enjoy spectacular views and take a trip on the new Matterhorn Alpine Crossing over into Italy.
There’s lots of adventurous activities in Zermatt too – hire a mountain bike for the day and explore on two wheels, or try some via feratta.
If you’re in Zermatt over a Monday or a Friday, why not join one of our Inghams guided walks? Explore some of Zermatt’s best scenery in the company of other Inghams guests and a professional local guide – and the best bit is, there’s no extra cost to join – add the walk to your holiday at the time of booking.
Visit Europe’s highest alpine garden at 2,800 metres altitude. The Alpine Garden is being built on the Gornergrat, directly below the Rotenboden station, in the summer of 2023 and will display 150 species of plants.
Day 8: Glacier Express Railway
Today, you leave Zermatt and embark on the crowning highlight of your holiday - a full day excursion on board the famous Glacier Express scenic train as you make your way to Filisur (approx 7h) where change of train is required for additional 25min journey to Davos . This journey on the ‘slowest express train in the world’ takes you past dramatic glaciers, over spectacular viaducts, and through unspoilt mountain forests and valleys to the charming canton of Graubünden .
Day 9 to 10/11: Explore Davos
There are around 700 kilometres of marked walking routes in the beautiful Davos and Klosters region, offering a fantastic range of routes with something to suit everyone. You can also hop on a bike and explore on two wheels or relax in the Davos wellness centre. There’s plenty of culture here too, with museums to visit and various festivals throughout the summer.

What to eat in Switzerland
Switzerland is rightly called the country of chocolates. But apart from these sinful indulgences, this mountainous country also offers an array of local dishes to choose from while on your Switzerland tour. Swiss cuisine is a combination of German, French and North Italian influences. Interestingly enough, the food changes with a change in locations - the language divisions working as rough boundary outlines. There are a few items which have remained Switzerland’s national favorites; they are a must-try during your Switzerland trip.
Cheese Fondue : Switzerland is famous for the invention of the fondue, which is a meal best had when you have company. Cheese fondue is melted cheese with bread cubes. The bread cubes are swiveled in the melted cheese served in a traditional ceramic fondue pot, the ‘caquelon’, infused with wine and garlic, and often paired with white wine.
Raclette: This is a national dish of the Valais canton in Switzerland. It is a simple as it is delicious, consisting simply of melted Alpine hard cheese, served on a platter along with potatoes and other optionals.
Tartiflette: A luxurious supper dish originating from the Alps, the tartiflette is an ideal dish to have in cold weather. It consists of potatoes cooked along with cheese, onion and bacon in a kind of gratin.
Rösti : It is a traditional flat cake served hot, made from grated raw potatoes or cooked jacket, and fried in hot butter. This dish is held together by the potato starch itself.
Bircher Muesli: A popular breakfast food, this is a combination of oat flakes, lemon juice, condensed milk, grated apples, hazelnuts or almonds, and was famously developed by the Swiss doctor Brenner in the 1900s.
Swiss Chocolate: Swiss chocolate is world renowned. The invention of milk chocolate by Daniel Peter and the introduction of fondant chocolate by Lindt added all the uniqueness to Swiss chocolates, increasing demand the world over. Locally made Swiss chocolates are a must when you are on a Switzerland package.
Swiss cheese: Switzerland is the land of cheese. Interestingly, each area has its very own type of cheese. The weekly markets are thronged by stalls of farmers and cheese merchants selling cheese, which is Switzerland’s very own treasure trove. There is a lot of variety to choose from, be it the aromatic Appenzellar, the world-famous Gruyere, or the ‘monk’s head’ or Tête de Moine. Tourists can also witness the cheese-making process in cheese dairies.
Go ahead and tantalize your taste buds with these and many more Swiss delicacies during your Switzerland tour.

Unmissable things to do in Switzerland
Beyond the ethereal landscapes, cheese and chocolates, a holiday in this land of four languages is a once in a lifetime experience. From luxury experiences to adventure activities, romantic retreats and cultural exploration, there’s a lot to cover in Switzerland tour packages. Here are just a few suggestions of things to do apart from the regular Switzerland sightseeing to make your holiday even more memorable.
Paragliding in Interlaken : If you have not had your fill of the scenic alpine views around Interlaken, try seeing the sights from a height! A ten minute tandem paragliding experience in Interlaken will take you on an unforgettable trip. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Interlaken scenery and the Swiss Alps, while your pilot takes care of all the manoeuvring. Since this is a tandem flight, it is ideal even for beginners. For travellers keen on adventure, this is one of the best things to do in Switzerland. This activity can be pre-booked in Switzerland packages from India even before travelling.
Skydiving in Interlaken: For travellers who find paragliding too tame, Switzerland tours also offer more adventurous options such as skydiving. Take a helicopter ride from Interlaken, soaring over the scenic landscape up to a height of 14,000 feet. From this height, in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, experience the adrenalin rush of a skydive along with your instructor. For a thrill-seeker, this could well be the highlight of a Switzerland holiday package.
Boat ride at Rhine Falls: One of Europe’s biggest waterfalls, the Rhine Falls are one of the most important places to visit in Switzerland near Zurich. While the falls can be seen from riverside walking trails and viewing platforms, we recommend taking a boat ride on the river to fully experience this spectacular spot. The boat trip takes visitors up to a rock in the middle of the falls, where the sound and spray of water from the Falls is impressive. Be prepared to get soaked!
Excursion to Chillon Castle: If you are lover of history and culture, you should consider visiting the Chillon Castle near Montreux on Lake Geneva. This medieval lakeside fortress is the most visited historic monument in Switzerland. Visitors will enjoy the underground rooms, the 14 th century wall paintings, and the various halls and courtyards in the fortress. The royal bedroom here has been preserved in its original state and can also be visited.
Sky Dining: This is one of the most perfect things to do in Switzerland for you, if you are booking a Switzerland honeymoon package and searching for a unique experience for couples! Sky Dining is an exclusive dinner experience, where you will be dining on board the world’s first revolving gondola. Imagine having an intimate dinner with your loved one as you float in the sky. The three-course dinner includes gourmet cuisine with wine and coffee. This experience is highly recommended as a romantic meal for honeymooners, and can be pre-booked with Switzerland packages from India.
Wine Tasting: For travellers who enjoy wine, Switzerland tour options include local wine tours. Learn about wine making in Switzerland, visit local wineries and get the opportunity to taste local varieties. You will learn interesting facts about Swiss wine, and also have the option of purchasing some for your own consumption back home. Swiss tours like these can make your Switzerland travel that much more experiential.
Ride on the Bernina Express: If you plan to book only one train journey in Switzerland, let it be this! The Bernina Express is a train that connects Chur, Davos and St. Moritz in Switzerland to Tirano in Italy. It takes travellers through an incredibly scenic alpine landscape with 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and viaducts. You can enjoy an uninterrupted view through the panoramic cars of the train. In summer, your view will include green pastures and colourful villages whereas in the winter you will see snow-capped peaks and frozen lakes. The Eurail Pass can be used to travel on the Bernina Express.
Cable Car ride at Zermatt: This is not an ordinary cable car, it is the world’s highest cable car ride. The new Matterhorn cable car ride takes passengers comfortably from Zermatt to the highest mountain in the world. Enjoy the unmatched views of the snowscapes all around you, and carry back unforgettable memories of your trip!
Downhill Hiking at Zermatt : Visitors to Zermatt can indulge in a variety of adventure activities, one of them being downhill hiking. Take the mountain train to Sunnegga plateau and enjoy the awe-inspiring views of Matterhorn, before starting your downhill hike. The hike goes past tiny villages, the Findel glacier, and the Grunsee Lake until you eventually reach Zermatt town centre. This activity is one of the most fun-filled things to do in Switzerland for an active family spending time together.
Winter sports: If you are fond of winter sports or would like to experience any of them for the first time, your Switzerland holiday package might be the perfect opportunity to try something. Switzerland is a popular destination for skiing , with a high number of ski-resorts dotted around the country. Interlaken in particular is known for heli-skiing and snow-boarding . Bobsledding in the glamorous Swiss town of St. Moritz will send you whooshing down the natural ice track at great speeds in a whirlwind ride. Ice Karting is another extreme sport to experience in the snow-clad mountains of Switzerland. Glacier Bungee Jumping - jumping off a glacier with a bungee rope tied to you - is another level of thrill in the bone-chilling cold, especially at the Grindelwald glacier near Interlaken. Hiking and trekking the glaciers in the wintery mountainous wonderland of the Swiss Alps is another activity to look out for.

For example, a 6 nights and 7 days package that covers Zurich, Engelberg and Paris will cost you nearly ₹ 1,79,490 per head. Similarly, a 5 nights and 6 days package that covers Paris and Zurich, will cost you approximately ₹ 1,48,743 per person. Most people prefer adding other European cities to their Switzerland tour package, extending it by a few days. You can also personalise your travel itinerary to focus only on Switzerland by choosing your preferred attractions and activities.
Ques. Which month is best to visit Switzerland?
Ans. You can book your Switzerland tour package for almost any time of the year. Many people visit between the months of April and October for the pleasant weather conditions and lesser crowds, while those into winter sports prefer the stretch between December and March. The spring season is a sight to behold for travellers, between March and May, offering blooming flowers, trees, greenery and charming pastoral landscapes. The October-November period is also characterised by lower tourist volumes. To sum it up, you can visit Switzerland whenever you wish, depending on your schedule and convenience.
Ques. Is Switzerland a visa free destination for Indian citizens?
Ans. While booking your Switzerland tour package, do take the visa regulations into account. Indian nationals will require a Schengen visa to explore the country, since Switzerland falls within the Schengen Area. Hence, even though Switzerland is not a part of the EU (European Union), you will still need the Schengen visa to visit the country. Only those who are EFTA and EU citizens can arrive in Switzerland without needing a visa. Check the visa documents and other regulations carefully before applying.
Ques. How much is the cost of a visa from India to Switzerland?
Ans. While booking an itinerary for Switzerland, you must also know the cost of its visa. The cost of the visa should be added to the price of your Switzerland tour package. The visa costs are given below for your perusal: 79.91 USD (approx) for adults- single entry visa 39.96 USD (approx) for children between 6-12 years- single entry visa 0 USD for children between 0-6 years- single entry visa Include these visa costs while budgeting your Switzerland trip.
Ques. How many days are enough to explore Switzerland?
Ans. You should book your Switzerland tour package for a minimum of 5-7 days in order to check out the lovely countryside and vibrant cities of the country. Here is what you should include in an itinerary for 5-7 days: Lake Geneva with a jaunt to Bern Valais, with its charming countryside and mountains Aletsch Glacier and Zermatt (mountain adventures) Jungfrau Region in the Bernese Oberland via Interlaken, with the highest-elevation European rail ride to reach Jungfraujoch. You can also visit the Eiger and Jungfrau summits with hiking trips, going through fabulous landscapes and mountain villages like Grindelwald. However, if you do not have much time and can only spare 3-4 days for your trip, then you should include the following in your itinerary: Geneva, including the Cathedral, Old Town and wonderful museums. Lake Geneva and boat trips along with Lausanne and the Chateau de Chillon, which is a famous landmark nearby. Zermatt and the Matterhorn, its popular mountain range. Zurich with its Fraumunster Church, Swiss National Museum and the Uetliberg Mountain, among other big draws for tourists. Lucerne and the gorgeous Lake Lucerne, along with venturing into Mount Titlis, the highest peak in the country. These are some of the chief attractions that can be covered within 3-4 days.
Ques. In which month can we see snow in Switzerland?
Ans. If you want to book your Switzerland tour package at the right time, in order to see snowfall, then you should consider the winter season. The winter season in the country starts in December and ends in March. These are months characterised by thick snowfall and wintersports. Innumerable tourists visit during this period to enjoy skiing and other adventure activities.
Ques. How much money do I need for Swiss visa?
Ans. If you have chosen a Switzerland tour package, then you must know about the minimum amount that you can carry into the country. As per regulations, you should have 100 CHF or 92.34 Euros each day for your trip in the country. This amount is reduced to 27.70 Euros or 30 CHF for those who are students. Ensure that you budget for your trip accordingly.
Ques. What is the best way to explore Switzerland?
Ans. Make sure that your Switzerland tour package gives you ample scope to travel by local transportation. You can take trains to reach various destinations like Geneva, Bern, Interlaken and Zurich. The train rides are relatively affordable and do not take much time. The best part of train journeys is that you get to travel through picturesque landscapes. You can also take FlixBus rides throughout Switzerland at affordable prices while there are domestic flights available too. However, Switzerland is a comparatively smaller country than many other European nations. Hence, flights are a costlier option that you can avoid. You can also book ride sharing services in various areas or simply go hitch-hiking. These are comparatively affordable options for reaching several hotspots in the country.
Ques. What is the capital of Switzerland?
Ans. Many people booking a Switzerland tour package often think that Geneva and Zurich are the main cities of the country. To an extent, it is true, considering how both these cities are hubs of culture, nightlife, art and tourist attractions. However, you may be surprised to know that the capital of the country is the beautiful and small city of Bern. It was selected as Switzerland’s federal city long back.
Ques. Which are the best cities to visit in Switzerland?
Ans. There are many mesmerising cities that you can add to your Switzerland tour package. Some of the best options include the following: Geneva Bern Lucerne Zurich Interlaken Zermatt Montreux These are some of the top choices for those planning trips to the beautiful country in the near future.

Italy and Switzerland Tours & Trips
While Northern Italy (Milan) is known for its fabulous fashion scene, Southern Italy (Naples) will feed the crowds with an authentic pizza Margherita. Central Italy is where you will find Rome, the capital city, and the Colosseum or St. Peter's Basilica. Switzerland 's capital, Bern, features magnificent heritage sites like the Zytglogge clock tower. Geneva's picturesque views of the lake and the Swiss Alps seem to be taken out of a fairytale. Harmonious Europe
Awesome experience!! Magical 12 days!
Country Roads of Switzerland (Classic, 14 Days)
We went on this trip expecting a lot. Every expectation we had was exceeded. The venues were spectacular, but that was Switzerland. The precision and professionalism with which each days adventures unfolded was apparent. When you are on a 14 day trip with no serious complaints it is a direct reflection on the Insight team, take a bow Sue, Greg and Maria.
European Splendour (End Paris, 11 Days)
Had a fantastic time. Excellent Tour Director, Emile, and Driver, Fabio. So much to see and nothing to take care of! Great trip!

Switzerland and Italy
The trip itinerary was enjoyable, the pace was just nice. The whatsapp group chat was very useful. The staff manning the chat responded to the queries and clarification promptly.

Alpine Adventure, Bernina & Glacier Express
Great tour with a easy to follow pace
Switzerland and Italy with Amalfi Coast
Firstly, I will absolutely book with them again. Daily check-ins and confirmations of drivers coming and where to be etc were beyond expectations. They made a custom trip and found the best value hotels in every city and supported our independent trip amazingly. Guides and transfers were great and any time I had a question they answered within minutes! Highly recommended.
Italian Mosaic
Our very first tour and we had a wonderful time! The Tour Guide Salvatore made us feel comfortable and what a great personality! We had so much fun! No complaints here would recommend Italian Mosaic to everyone! Globus knows what their doing they are very organized. We booked the Northern Capitals tour with Globus In June! Can’t wait!! Also I want to give a shout out to Andrea L the booking agent for Globus she was very helpful! Go Globus!!
European Highlights
Quite a lot over short period of time but well done. The lesser known places are really spectacular as well. Good mix. Bus WiFi and lack of ability to charge phones on bus were only real down area.

Reviews of italy and switzerland tours.
I enjoyed the entire course of the tour. The only thing i can comment is the location of the hotels that is quite far from the center ie: Milan and Florence. Thanks to google and it was very accurate. We DIY in some of the locations like Paris, Zurich, Rome. The over all coordination is excellent. I commend Bego shes very nice and informative.
Fabulous and comprehensive tour. Thank you so much to Brianna (Travel Director) and Maria (Driver) for a brilliant two weeks!
