Tom Cruise revisits Goose's Top Gun death in Lady Gaga's 'Hold My Hand' music video

Anthony Edwards' emotional death replays in Cruise's memory in the music video for Gaga's Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack song.

tom cruise music videos

Get ready to cry over Goose's death all over again — this time as Tom Cruise revisits classic Top Gun movie moments from the 1986 film in Lady Gaga 's new "Hold My Hand" music video.

The clip, directed by Top Gun: Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski, follows Gaga as she sings at an airfield in the middle of the desert, while flashes of Cruise — who reprises his role in the 2022 sequel as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchel — show the actor reminiscing on key moments from the Tony Scott-directed original. One moment sees Cruise staring at photos from his past before cutting to a shot of him holding Goose ( Anthony Edwards ) in the ocean as the character dies.

Cruise has said that Gaga's work on the film was key to highlighting the sequel's heart.

"There was a sound we were looking for.... she presented her song to us and it just opened up the whole movie," he said on The Late Late Show . "It opened those doors to the emotional core of the film that we had. That moment, things just came together in such a beautiful way. The song she'd written just fell right in and became, really, the underlying score and the heartbeat of our film."

Gaga previously said that the song was a "love letter to the world" amid difficult times.

"When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick , I didn't even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film's heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we've been living in," she wrote on Instagram upon announcing the track. "I've been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life's heroes."

In addition to penning "Hold My Hand" as an original song for the film, Gaga also contributed to the Top Gun: Maverick score with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer , Lorne Balfe, and Harold Faltermeyer, who worked on the original Top Gun soundtrack in 1986.

Gaga also told EW that she's considering her next musical moves as a solo act in a November 2021 interview amid the promotional cycle for her second jazz album with Tony Bennett, Love for Sale .

"There's always music in my heart, in the works. It's just about [asking], 'What will it be?'" she explained when asked about releasing new pop music for the first time since unveiling her Grammy-winning 2020 album Chromatica . "I'm not ready to answer that yet. But what I will say is that... I'm always thinking about music. It just comes out in different forms."

Top Gun: Maverick is in theaters on May 27. Watch Gaga's "Hold My Hand" music video above.

Lady Gaga and Tom Cruise Go Flying in the "Hold My Hand" Music Video

New Lady Gaga music has arrived, but no, it's not a new album. On May 3, the multihyphenate released a new song, "Hold My Hand," which she wrote and recorded for the upcoming film " Top Gun: Maverick ." Gaga shared the song's music video, which stars herself and "Top Gun" star Tom Cruise , on May 6.

Gaga first announced the track on social media on April 27, tweeting, "When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn't even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film's heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we've been living in. I've been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life's heroes." She went on to thank main star Tom Cruise , musician Hans Zimmer, and director Joseph Kosinski for the opportunity.

Leading up to the reveal, Gaga seemingly shared lyrics from the song on Twitter. One line read , "Hold my hand everything will be ok I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey," while another read , "Pull me close wrap me in your aching arms I see that you're hurtin'."

The singer's social media announcement continued, "This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I've wanted you to hear it for so long. And I'm so excited to give it to you on May 3." On April 29, she tweeted a 10-second snippet of the forthcoming track, again teasing the song's release date.

While "Top Gun: Maverick" was originally scheduled to be released in July 2019, it was initially delayed due to the movie's complicated flight sequences and then further postponed as a result of the pandemic. It will now hit theaters on May 27.

Gaga is no stranger to penning songs for movies. She wrote all the music for "A Star Is Born," winning an Oscar — along with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt — for best original song for "Shallow." The original "Top Gun" film had one of the most popular soundtracks of all time, including Berlin's "Take My Breath Away," which won an Oscar in 1986. No other songs on the "Top Gun: Maverick" soundtrack have yet been announced, but it won't be a surprise if the movie has a few more music superstars up its sleeve.

The loss of Goose (Anthony Edwards) still haunts the “Top Gun” films, despite Pete “Maverick” Mitchell ( Tom Cruise ) flying high once more.

Oscar winner Lady Gaga announced original song “Hold My Hand” for “ Top Gun: Maverick ,” the sequel to the hit 1986 film, in theaters May 27. The “House of Gucci” star released the emotional music video for the ballad on May 6, ahead of the “Top Gun: Maverick” premiere at Cannes in a few weeks.

Director Joseph Kosinski filmed Gaga belting the moving single while at an airfield in the desert. Flashbacks to the original film, helmed by Tony Scott, revisit Goose’s heartbreaking death as Cruise’s Maverick holds him. The follow-up film is set 30 years after the original, with Maverick now training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates, including Goose’s son Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) aka Rooster, for a dangerous, specialized mission.

The lyrics for “Hold My Hand” include: “I see that you’re bleeding / You don’t need to show me again. But if you decide to, I’ll ride in this life with you / I won’t let go ’til the end.”

“When I wrote this song for ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,” Gaga, who also contributed to the “Top Gun: Maverick” score along with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, and Harold Faltermeyer, tweeted .

The “A Star Is Born” Academy Award winner continued, “I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes…This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time.”

Lead star Cruise praised Gaga’s dedication to the film while on “ The Late Late Show ,” saying that the song “opened up the whole movie” and grounded the “emotional core” of the epic film.

“The song she’d written just fell right in and became, really, the underlying score and the heartbeat of our film,” Cruise said.

Lady Gaga takes flight in ‘Hold My Hand’ music video for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

“Hold My Hand” took flight Friday when Lady Gaga shared the music video for the new single for the long-anticipated “Top Gun” sequel.

The Oscar- and Grammy Award-winner’s song was written for “Top Gun: Maverick,” an undertaking that “Top Gun” star Tom Cruise said this week became the “heartbeat” of the new Paramount Pictures film.

In an attempt to re-create the rock ’n’ roll magic of “Take My Breath Away” and “Danger Zone” from Tony Scott’s 1986 classic — released the year Gaga was born — the video pulls imagery from “Top Gun” as well as “Maverick.” Mother Monster is no U.S. Navy fighter pilot, but the theatrical performer embraces the role in the video and is certainly costumed for it in aviators and a bomber jacket while belting out the lyrics in and around an airplane hangar.

“So cry tonight / But don’t you let go of my hand / You can cry every last tear / I won’t leave ’til I understand / Promise you’ll just hold my hand / Hold my hand,” she sings, sitting under jets, rolling onto a wing and playing piano on a runway.

The single — produced by Gaga, longtime collaborator BloodPop and Benjamin Rice — was released by Interscope Records earlier this week and is a slow-building ballad about love, loyalty and perseverance. “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joe Kosinski also directed the music video.

Theaters have reason to be optimistic for the first time in a while. Thank movies like ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

The film version of “Hold My Hand” features additional production and score by Harold Faltermeyer and Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer.

The new single marks Gaga’s return to writing and producing original music for a film after 2018’s “A Star Is Born” soundtrack. Her work in that musical film, in which she also starred, earned her an Oscar and four Grammys, among other accolades.

“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,” Lady Gaga tweeted in late April. “I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”

During a Wednesday appearance on “The Late Late Show,” Cruise heaped praise on Gaga, calling her “incredible” and “extraordinary.”

“She’s not just on the soundtrack. She actually helped to compose the score and it was incredible,” Cruise said. (The feeling was mutual, apparently, as the the actor also attended a Gaga show in Las Vegas on Sunday and she thanked him for it on Instagram .)

Cruise told “Late Late Show” host James Corden that Gaga brought “Hold My Hand” to him and composer Hans Zimmer when they were struggling to find a right fit.

“Obviously making the soundtrack and the music in every movie is very important and this one was very particular,” Cruise said, adding: “There was just a sound and something we were looking for and it just, it wasn’t right. She presented her song to us and it just opened up the whole movie. She’s amazing.

“And it just opened those doors to the emotional core of the film that we had,” he added. “Things just came together in such a beautiful way. Her song that she’d written just fell right in and became, really, the underlying score and the heartbeat of our film. She’s amazing. She’s an actress, a jazz singer, pop singer, I mean her talent is just boundless. So you’ll love the music in this movie.”

The  Top Gun: Maverick  soundtrack just soared to a new height. OneRepublic is joining Lady Gaga on the highly anticipated movie’s soundtrack, and released a carefree new single titled “I Ain’t Worried” on Friday (May 13). The video — directed by Isaac Rentz — borrows scenes from the film featuring leading man Tom Cruise.

The visual cuts in between clips of the band performing in a sunset, palm tree-decorated outdoor stage and clips taken straight from the May 27-slated movie. “I’ll take it in and let it go, but I ain’t worried ’bout it right now,” sings OneRepublic leading man Ryan Tedder as Cruise’s character, Pete Mitchell, plays a round of beach football.

Twenty One Pilots' Tyler Joseph Says Band Was Almost on 'Top Gun: Maverick' Soundtrack

Top Gun: Maverick  will serve as a sequel to 1986’s Top Gun , about U.S. navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The follow-up will show the character 30 years later, confronting his fears and training recruits for a special flight mission, with a taste of some of those mid-air action scenes featured in OneRepublic’s new video.

Trending on Billboard

“I’m at my best when I got something I’m wanting to steal,” Tedder sings over a clip of Maverick taking off into the sky, soaring over the ocean.

The easygoing track is a pretty stark contrast to the film’s emotional, grief-stricken theme song co-written and performed by Lady Gaga, “Hold My Hand.” Cruise previously told James Corden that the 13-time Grammy winner’s tune “opened those doors to the emotional core of the film that we had.”

He added: “Her song that she’d written just fell right in and became really the underlying score and the heartbeat of our film.”

Watch Lady Gaga's Melodramatic Music Video for 'Top Gun: Maverick' Power Ballad 'Hold My Hand'

Lady Gaga unveiled the music video for 'Hold My Hand' from Top Gun: Maverick , directed by the film's director Joseph Kosinski, on Friday

Lady Gaga is preparing to take flight in her new music video.

On Friday, the 36-year-old pop icon unveiled the melodramatic visual for her latest single " Hold My Hand " from the upcoming film Top Gun: Maverick .

Directed by Joseph Kosinski , the film's director, the clip opens with black-and-white shots of Gaga posing next to military jets and equipment as she performs the drum-heavy power ballad. Scenes from Top Gun: Maverick are superimposed into the music video, which also features outdoor shots of the musician playing a piano on the airport location's tarmac while a fighter jet whips around her in the sky.

" #HOLDMYHAND OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO ✈️ TOMORROW AT 9AM PT Directed by Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick," the "Bad Romance" performer wrote on Instagram ahead of the video's debut. "Fun fact: the original Top Gun came out in 1986, the year I was born ☺️"

Last week, Gaga released "Hold My Hand" and encouraged fans to "have faith in humanity" in an Instagram post about the uplifting track.

"I wanted to say that I wrote the song for the INCREDIBLE movie #topgun #topgunmaverick but also for people who feel like they're not gonna be ok or WE ARE never gonna be ok and that life taught me through hard times to have faith in humanity when it's hard to have faith in yourself," Gaga wrote alongside a selfie posted May 2.

"When you feel lonely, sad, removed from the world, far away from yourself and others #holdmyhand One day you may even be strong enough to hold your own 🤝," continued the caption. "I love you with my whole heart for all the years I've been blessed to sing, write songs, produce and perform for you. Thank you 🙏 here we go!!! 🖤✈️"

Written and produced by Gaga and Bloodpop , with additional production from Benjamin Rice — all of whom worked on the bulk of 2020's Chromatica album — "Hold My Hand" boasts subtle electric guitar, piano, and synth instrumentation anchored by a powerful drumbeat in the song's chorus and additional strings during its bridge.

The lyrics of "Hold My Hand" find Gaga passionately serenading a loved one who's hurt and in need of help. "I see that you're hurtin', why'd you take so long / To tell me you need me? I see that you're bleedin' / You don't need to show me again," she sings in the track's pre-chorus. "But if you decide to, I'll ride in this life with you / I won't let go 'til the end."

"So cry tonight / But don't you let go of my hand / You can cry every last tear," belts Gaga during its hook. "I won't leave 'til I understand / Promise me, just hold my hand."

Ahead of the single's release, Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise paid Gaga a visit during her Jazz & Piano residency at the Park MGM's Dolby Live theater in Las Vegas. "Thank you for coming to the show last night. I love you my friend @tomcruise ," the singer wrote on Instagram alongside photos of her and Cruise, 59 , kissing each other on the cheek.

Gaga announced "Hold My Hand" on April 27 and penned a lengthy Instagram caption about making the song alongside its cover artwork, which sees the musician posing on a plane with "LG" printed on it.

"When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick , I didn't even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film's heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we've been living in. I've been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours," wrote the "Rain on Me" singer. "I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other — a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life's heroes."

Gaga continued, "I'm so grateful to Tom and Hans [Zimmer] and Joe [Kosinski] for this opportunity — and it's been a beautiful experience working with them. Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I've wanted you to hear it for so long. And I'm so excited to give it to you on May 3. 'Hold My Hand.'"

Lady Gaga's Top Gun: Maverick Music Video For Hold My Hand Features A Touching Tom Cruise Flashback

Prepare for takeoff with Top Gaga!

Lady Gaga in the music video for Top Gun: Maverick.

There was once a time when the pop ballad tie-in single was an essential ingredient to promoting your summer blockbuster. Pioneered by producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, films like Footloose , Flashdance , and even Top Gun would carefully construct soundtracks that moved records after putting audiences in seats. It seems only fitting that Top Gun : Maverick would resurrect this practice as it takes its place among the upcoming movies of 2022, and Lady Gaga ’s song is boosted even higher with the return of an appropriately themed music video.

“Hold My Hand” seems to build its foundation on some very touching Tom Cruise flashbacks, as quite a few moments of Maverick and Goose’s friendship are on display. Showcasing that bittersweet storyline, alongside thrilling clips from Top Gun: Maverick , the good old days of MTV ready videos tying into massive studio juggernauts are back.

Tying it all together is footage of Mother Monster herself, rocking Maverick’s flight jacket and pouring her heart into her piano. You’re probably feeling the need for this Top Gun 2 video’s speed, so let’s not waste any more time. Here’s the official music video for “Hold My Hand”:

There’s a lot to talk about in here, besides the emotional weight of seeing Anthony Edwards’ Goose in archival footage from Top Gun . From a music video standpoint, a lot of loving nostalgia for the time when this was a standard practice shows. Directed by Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski , “Hold My Hand” also lavishes Lady Gaga’s performance with a lot of love. Switching between black and white and golden tinged color, you couldn’t ask for anything more.

Most importantly, the Top Gun: Maverick music video further highlights Tom Cruise’s praise for “Hold My Hand,” and how important he feels this song is to the project. I must admit, when listening to the single upon its release earlier this week, I was a bit lukewarm on the results. After watching the music video, which sounds like it has an amped up sound mix, I’m now a believer that Lady Gaga and her new best friend really have created the movie's "beating heart," and those Goose flashbacks certainly helped.

Also, on the visual end, it looks like Joseph Kosniski has shot the video in both traditional and IMAX format. So maybe there’s a chance that premium format showings of the long awaited Top Gun sequel could include this as a treat? It’d be a waste not to showcase Lady Gaga, and the song she helped create, on the largest, loudest platform possible. Just ask IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond, who was one of many bummed out by Top Gun: Maverick made its final move into 2022.

Hopes are pinned upon Top Gun: Maverick’s theatrical release to be one of those cinematic events that draws audiences to the theater in droves. Tom Cruise, Joseph Kosniski, and now Lady Gaga have all done their part to sell that point, and it’s not hard to see why critics were wowed by the return of Maverick . All that has to happen now is for the finished product to make its way to the public, complete with "Hold My Hand" and its energy that challenges even the most iconic movie based pop ballads.

Tom Cruise is one of the world's greatest film stars, and it turns out he's a fantastic live performer too.

In 2015, the Top Gun: Maverick actor appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the States, and shocked the audience with his impressive command of the stage.

  • Simon Cowell finally sang on the Got Talent stage and he was incredible
  • Tom Cruise fought for 'wingman' Val Kilmer to star in Top Gun sequel after his battle with cancer

OK, he wasn't actually singing, but rather taking part in the Lip Sync Battle segment of the show, miming along with The Weeknd's 'Can't Feel My Face', but he was particularly great at it.

Watch the clip below:

But it's not like Tom can't sing at all. He's belted out the likes of 'Great Balls of Fire' in Top Gun , 'Free Fallin'' in Jerry Maguire and 'Addicted to Love' in Cocktail .

And of course, in 2012, he starred as stadium rock legend Stacy Jaxx in the musical Rock of Ages , where he convincingly performed various '80s anthems like 'Wanted Dead or Alive' and 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'.

Tom Cruise has just experienced the most successful film of his career, with Top Gun: Maverick grossing over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.

Rick Astley has Tom Cruise ’s Hollywood film crew working on his latest music video.

The “Never Gonna Give You Up” singer, 57, announced last week that Simon Pegg was directing the visuals for his new single, “Forever and More”.

He explained on BBC Breakfast on Monday (16 October) that he and Pegg, 53, had linked up after “sharing some love” at a festival.

“He jumped in and did it, he came up with a great script and a whole concept and idea. It was just a great couple of days to shoot it,” Astley said of filming.

Pegg has now starred in six films in the Mission: Impossible franchise as field agent Benji Dunn opposite Cruise’s protagonist, Ethan Hunt.

  • Rick Astley has ‘learned to quietly embrace’ massive success of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’
  • Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis and Brian Cox among British actors on picket line in stand against AI in film
  • Tom Cruise has achieved impressive Rotten Tomatoes record with new Mission: Impossible movie

On Breakfast , Astley revealed that Pegg had roped in the M:I film crew to work on his video as they are currently in limbo due to the ongoing SAG actors’ strike in the US.

“We’ve gone from iPhone to Hollywood – it’s a crazy jump,” the singer said.

The Sun further reports that Cruise himself gave Pegg the green light to borrow his film crew.

A source told the newspaper: “Tom has worked with a number of them on many films so he wanted to be loyal and help out during tough times.

“After discussions with Simon and the label, he’s got them all to cross over and work on the video. Rick is delighted about it because they have lofty standards and could produce something extraordinary.”

The video was reportedly shot on Monday in a secret location in the UK.

Astley released his ninth, and long-awaited, studio album Are We There Yet? On 13 October.

In an interview on BBC North West Tonight earlier this week, the Merseyside artist said he has “learned to quietly embrace” the success of his 1987 smash hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” after “15 years of not singing it”.

Astley said the song had opened “so many doors” for him – including his debut Glastonbury performance this year.

“Without my old songs and without the Rickrolling thing with its own little universe, I wouldn’t have got the invite to Glastonbury.

“It was really, really special [and] I defy [anyone] to be on the Pyramid stage and not feel the enormity of it,” he continued.

7 best Tom Cruise movies to stream on Netflix, Prime Video and more

Where to stream these iconic movies starring Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. For good reason, too. With jaw-dropping stunts, a gleaming smile and an intense gaze unmatched by many, Tom Cruise is a household name in Hollywood. He's had the lead actor role in at least 39 films and counting and has a box office total that has grossed over 10 billion. He has also produced some of his own films, including the hit Mission: Impossible franchise.

While Cruise may be known as an invincible action star, he has also played numerous characters with incredible depth and range. He has been the charming yet competitive romantic lead, the cold, calculating killer, and the greedy but misguided younger brother . Cruise has worked alongside some of the most famous actors and directors of our time. While it's hard to narrow down his greatest roles in such a short list, we've put together a few of the best Tom Cruise movies.

Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise in Rain Man

In the Oscar award-winning film, Rain Main, Cruise plays Charlie Babbitt, the selfish brother of Raymond as played by Dustin Hoffman. Charlie finds out that his brother Raymond has inherited a great deal of money. Determined to get hold of what he believes is rightfully his, Charlie absconds Ray away from his residential home, sending the two on a memorable road trip neither will forget.

Hoffman took home an Academy Award for his role. So did the director, the screenwriter, and the picture as a whole. While Tom Cruise may not have received an Oscar nomination for his role in the film, he is the perfect actor to play alongside Hoffman. You have the reward of watching him shed his character's shallow, flashy demeanor and embrace a subtle maturity as he learns why his brother was sent away. A must-watch film that is one of Tom Cruise's best.

Watch on Prime Video

Tom Cruise in The Firm

No one but Cruise could have played the part of Mitch McDeere in The Firm, an adaptation of the book by John Grisham. It could be why the 2012 television series of the book was canceled after only a single season. In the film, Cruise's McDeere is hired by a "small" firm from Memphis right out of law school. Although everything seems on the up-and-up, it isn't long before he realizes that he is surrounded by crooks.

It's the transformation of McDeere's smugness over landing such a top-notch job into an intensity over uncovering the truth and protecting his career — and life — that makes this such a powerful Tom Cruise film. However, what may surprise many is that Holly Hunter took home the Oscar for her role as Tammy Hemphill, the secretary of the private detective that McDeere hires. Despite Cruise's lack of Oscar recognition, this is one of his best movies.

A Few Good Men

Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men

A Few Good Men is a movie best known by many for its famous line spoken by Jack Nicholson who retorts, "You can't handle the truth!" However, it wouldn't be the same without Cruise playing the cocky Military lawyer Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee.

When defense lawyer Kaffee gets to defend two Marines accused of killing one of their colleagues, many expect him to simply settle the case out of court. Cruise's natural overconfidence as portrayed in his character, Kaffee, becomes a quality that people plan to manipulate to keep the truth a secret. When he realizes this raw reality, Cruise's stone-cold determination to take the case to court shocks many. Nicholson, who plays Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, was nominated for the Oscar. However, Cruise wows the audience when he plays opposite Nicholson in the famous court scene that prompted the line we all know so well.

Tom Cruise in Collateral

Going against his typical role, Tom Cruise plays a ruthless killer in the movie, Collateral. Vincent, as played by Cruise, is visiting Los Angeles to finish off a few people who are supposed to testify in court against a drug lord as well as a couple of other lawyers involved in the case. When he gets into the cab of Max, played by Jamie Foxx, not everything goes according to plan.

Cruise takes out all the charm in his personality to depict a heartless killer — although what remains is a certain reasonableness to his personality as he almost convinces Foxx's Max to stick with him for the long haul. However, Foxx's Max becomes braver by the moment. In yet another film where another actor was Oscar-nominated over Cruise — this time it was Jamie Foxx — it still remains one of Cruise's most complex characters, making it one of his best movies.

Jerry Maguire

Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire

This time an Oscar nominee, Cruise plays the part of Jerry Maguire, a sports agent at the top of his game. However, Cruise's Maguire gets a crisis of conscience when one of his clients gets seriously hurt. Confronted by the client's son, Cruise realizes he has no heart for those he is supposed to represent.

When Cruise's Maguire writes a mission statement, encouraging his agency to change their ways, he loses it all. However, despite the falling out, he connects with potential love interest, Dorothy Boyd, played by Renee Zellweger. He also manages to keep a single client, Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding Jr. It's a perfect blend of excellent acting, a strong script, and superb directing that makes this one of the most memorable romantic comedies. It also happens to include the famous Tom Cruise line that gives us all the feels, "You complete me."

Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick

Timing is everything, as the old adage says. That is possibly why the movie Top Gun: Maverick was such a success. Cruise starred in and produced the film, a sequel to his career-making film, Top Gun. While it was ready to go in 2020, he delayed its release for when people could actually see it in theaters. And for good reason. With incredible stunts and minimal usage of CGI, the movie is an experience as much as it is entertainment.

Playing a character many became familiar with in the '80s, Cruise adds a level of maturity to his role as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Cruise's Maverick returns to the school that molded him to train younger pilots, one of whom is the son of his now-deceased best friend. The emotional depth Cruise brings to the film makes it almost better than the original, a feat that's near impossible for sequels.

Risky Business

Tom Cruise in Risky Business

How can any of us forget that famous scene when Cruise dances in his underwear to the Bob Seger song, "Old Time Rock & Roll"? One of the movies that made him who he is today, Cruise plays Joel Goodsen, a college-bound high school senior who itches to cut loose from his parents' ties. Finally having the opportunity to live a little when his parents go on vacation, things for Goodsen go from bad to worse as each rule is broken.

Acting alongside Rebecca De Mornay who plays the elusive and appealing call girl, Cruise's Goodsen learns about life, love, and consequences in this iconic film. Coupled with a strong script and excellent music from the 80s, this is one of Tom Cruise's best and most memorable movies.

Victoria Beckham’s crutches have made an appearance at her 50th birthday party.

The fashion designer, who broke her foot while working out in February, stunned as she hobbled into her celebration at the ritzy private members club Oswald’s in London’s Mayfair district Saturday evening.

Although she looked a bit downcast as she entered the club, her semi-sheer dress shined. The elegant mint green sleeveless gown featured ruffles on her shoulders that cascaded down her cinched waistline.

She stacked sparkling silver and gold bracelets on each wrist and styled her long brunette hair in loose waves.

Victoria, whose birthday was on Wednesday, walked in with her entire family, including her husband, David Beckham, sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19, plus her 12-year-old daughter, Harper.

The men of the family suited up for the special occasion, with Cruz standing out in a white tux. Harper, meanwhile, looked sophisticated in a white satin dress.

Earlier this week, David, 48, celebrated his wife by sharing a slideshow of never-before-seen photos and videos from throughout Victoria’s childhood and their life as they grew their family.

“Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife… As you head into this birthday you should look back and be proud of what you have accomplished, achieved & what you have built, Posh Spice, business woman & of course marrying an England captain 😂,” he began in his tribute.

“But your biggest success are your children, you guide them, love them & teach them… They love you beyond words, we all love you so much x Have a special day you deserve it all.”
