Head Extreme Tour video review

Head Extreme Tour presentation

The Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour racquet is part of Head's Extreme line, which offers comfortable and powerful racquets that promote top spin.

The Extreme serie is close to the Instinct serie in terms of power, the MXGs are powerful and also top spin oriented, the Speed ??and Radical are intermediate and the Prestige are the least powerful.

The Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour is a new racquet in the Head Extreme range at the time I write this article.

Until then, the Head Extreme serie did not have a racquet with a 632 cm² head size and their weight did not exceed 300 grams.

This version results in a smaller head and a thinner profile, which make the Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour a top spin oriented racquet that gives more control than other racquets in this serie.

Technologies

  • Graphene 360+: provide resistance, flexibility, lightness, stability while keeping a reasonable weight,
  • Spin Shaft: reinforced handle to improve stability,
  • 360 Spin grommets: enlarged, funnel-shaped grommets  to promote movement of the strings and thus access to top spin and power.

Head Extreme Tour power level

Despite its average head size of 632 cm², the Head Extreme Tour delivers a nice dose of power.

In the category of tennis racquets with a 632 cm² head size, slightly "control" oriented, it is in my opinion one of the most powerful racquets.

On the forehand, I had very good power, on the backhand as well, I even sometimes lacked a little control on this stroke on strong hitting with little top spin.

Even on serve, which is a stroke where I generally lack power, I felt absolutely correct in terms of power.

Here is a comparison in terms of power with other similar racquets:

More power:

  • Head Extreme MP, Instinct, Gravity S, Radical S
  • Babolat Pure Drive, Pure Aero
  • Yonex VCore 100, Ezone 100
  • Wilson Burn, Ultra

Similar power:

  • Head Speed MP, Boom MP
  • Babolat Pure Drive VS

Less power:

  • Wilson Blade 98, Pro Staff, Clash
  • Head Radical MP, Gravity Pro/Tour/MP, Prestige, Speed Pro
  • Babolat Pure Strike, Pure Aero VS
  • Tecnifibre TFight 300, 305, TF 40
  • Yonex Vcore Pro, Ezone 98, Vcore 95

Head Extreme Tour and spins

The Head Extreme Tour, like the Head Extreme MP, is equipped with grommets whose shape is intended to facilitate power and access to top spin.

I had very good feelings on the backhand slice, in terms of feel and control.

As for top spin, I had excellent feelings from the baseline and serving, despite the head size a bit small.

The racquet provides very good access to top spin, although players who play with extreme top spin will certainly be even more comfortable with a 645 cm² head size frame.

For a racquet in this category, it is in my opinion one of the racquets that provides the best access to top spin.

Head Extreme Tour maneuverability and stability

The balance located at 31 cm and the swingweight of 318 allow the Head Extreme Tour to have exceptional handling.

In my test, I didn't feel like I was playing with an unstrung 305g racquet; I felt the racquet was lighter than other racquets of the same weight I have tested.

The stability is correct, however I would have preferred to have a little more weight in the head of the racquet to have more.

This is something that can be easily changed by adding some lead tape to the head of the racquet.

Head Extreme Tour comfort

I found the Head Extreme Tour to be very comfortable.

I also liked the tolerance of the racquet, which is really good for a racquet with this head size.

Summary of my Head Extreme Tour review

The Head Extreme Tour is a control oriented racquet that delivers a great dose of power at the same time.

Access to top spin is excellent considering the size of the head, the racquet is very maneuverable and comfortable.

Personally, I liked it a lot, I'd just have needed a bit more weight to feel the racquet more stable and have a bit more plow through.

Players I would advise the Head Extreme Tour

Considering the characteristics of the Head Extreme Tour, I would recommend it to tennis players:

  • from an intermediate to advanced level (I do not recommend for beginners),
  • who are looking for control and at the same time do not want a very hard racquet to play,
  • who are looking for a racquet with a good balance between power and control,
  • having an offensive and top spin game style, without using extreme top spin
  • who are looking for a racquet with a 632 cm² / 98 in² head size that offers good power and good access to top spin,
  • who are looking for a relatively flexible and comfortable racquet,
  • looking for a racquet that provides very good maneuverability.

HEAD  adds an Auxetic construction to their most control oriented Extreme frame, the HEAD 2022 Extreme Tour. The Tour is one of the fastest 10.8 ounce racquets around, and the  98 square inch head  and more dense 16x19 string pattern should be perfect for advanced players who want to add some precision to a heavy spin game . The Auxetic construction within the racquet yoke maintains impressive stability at contact, and it provides ideal feel to help fine tune your game .  The Extreme Tour is a perfect fit for an experienced competitior, who seeks something in between a classic thin-beamed control racquet, and a more forgiving and modern tweener.

-Exceedlingly fast, a very mobile 10.8 ounce (unstrung) racquet

-Auxetic construction refines the feel and will provide confidence to big hitters

-Better string durability than the Extreme MP, thanks to the smaller 98 head size

String Recommendation: Lynx Tour  Grey at 52 pounds

New HEAD Extreme Racquets 2022

head extreme tour swingweight

The new HEAD Extreme Racquets for 2022 are revealed. The update comes with a fresh paint and Auxetic added to the layup.

There are not any big spec changes to the new HEAD Extreme racquets, but the Pro is not there anymore. Instead they have tigthened the string pattern on the HEAD Extreme MP , which I think makes a lot of sense as that one was a bit difficult to control. Auxetic is there to improve the feel and I also felt like it enlarges the sweet spot slightly. Similar to what it did with the HEAD Speed Racquets . It’s a small difference, but picky racquet nerds will definitely feel it while playing.

I am reviewing pretty much the whole range of the new HEAD Extreme racquets, from the very light Team L, to the Team, the MP L, the MP and the Tour. I had a lot of fun last week hitting with the Team L. Big power and spin and easy playability. My mother actually loved playing with that racquet and decided to keep it. She is a beginner so for her the easy power, spin and large sweet spot was appealing. But I actually had fun just hitting spinny groundstrokes with it too. It’s going to be a bit light for me in the long run, but that’s where the other racquets come in.

The racquets will be for sale end of August or early Sep, check out our affiliates Tennis Warehouse , Tennis Warehouse Europe , and Tennis Only to purchase (we get a small commission if you use the link, doesn’t matter what you buy, so no pressure!). And if you’re not picky about having the latest model, the current model is for sale.

The HEAD Extreme 2022 racquets

head extreme tour swingweight

HEAD Extreme Tour

The HEAD Extreme Tour was my racquet of choice a while back, so I’m keen to see how this one compares. This is the most controlled racquet of the line-up and specs up in the following way. Ps. The CPI is the power scale from 100 (lowest) to 1000 (highest in power). Ds.

CPI: 400 WEIGHT (UNSTRUNG): 305 g / 10.8 oz STRING PATTERN: 16/19 HEAD SIZE: 630 cm² / 98 in² GRIP SIZE: 1-5 BALANCE: 315 mm / 1 in HL LENGTH: 685 mm / 27.0 in BEAM: 22/23/21 mm

No real difference as far as I can tell in terms of specs. It will be interesting to see how it feels. I will review it here as usual and on my YouTube channel .

HEAD Extreme MP

This racquet comes with a denser string pattern than its predecessor – similar to the Pro from 2020.

CPI:500 WEIGHT (UNSTRUNG): 300 g / 10.6 oz STRING PATTERN: 16/19 HEAD SIZE: 645 cm² / 100 in² GRIP SIZE: 1-5 BALANCE: 320 mm / 1 in HL LENGTH: 685 mm / 27.0 in BEAM: 23/26/21 mm

HEAD Extreme MP L

Just a lighter version of the MP.

CPI: 600 WEIGHT (UNSTRUNG): 285 g / 10.1 oz STRING PATTERN: 16/19 HEAD SIZE: 645 cm² / 100 in² GRIP SIZE: 0-5 BALANCE: 325 mm / 0.7 in HL LENGTH: 685 mm / 27.0 in BEAM: 23/26/21 mm

HEAD Extreme Team

A lighter and more powerful Extreme racquet for beginners to intermediate players.

CPI: 700 WEIGHT (UNSTRUNG): 275 g / 9.7 oz STRING PATTERN: 16/19 HEAD SIZE: 645 cm² / 100 in² GRIP SIZE: 0-5 BALANCE: 330 mm / 0.5 in HL LENGTH: 685 mm / 27.0 in BEAM: 23/26/21 mm

HEAD Extreme Team L

head extreme tour swingweight

The lightest and most powerful racquet of the bunch.

CPI: 900 WEIGHT (UNSTRUNG): 265 g / 9.3 oz STRING PATTERN: 16/19 HEAD SIZE: 680 cm² / 105 in² GRIP SIZE: 0-5 BALANCE: 345 mm / even LENGTH: 685 mm / 27.0 in BEAM: 23/26/22 mm

The play-test of the new HEAD Extreme racquets are underway. Keen to hear what you guys think about them.

I guess they are not releasing the extreme pro ?

No, they are not

Thanks for reviewing these,

Can you provide the swingweight for the MP?

So it’s the same swingweight as previous MP model?

The balance was changed to 320mm and CPI to 500, so thought maybe the swingeight dropped a little bit.

Can you double check that, please?

Still 325 w Lynx Tour. A thinner/lighter string will reduce it. It also depends on the racquet you get of course (quality control).

Im not seeing the RA of any of these sticks?

Not revealed yet…

Ok i see, thanks for precising that.

Looking forward to your test and impression about it, and how it compares to the previous model.

Between new aero and new Extreme Mp, Which is more maneuverable and easy ti swing through the air and generally less tiring for the arm? I often play with 285 grams

I would say Aero because of the lower swing weight, but I haven’t tried the Extreme MP L yet, which would be the version you should go for.

Looking forward to the review and also a comparison with the new pure aero 100 and 98. I currently use the extreme tour. Has the flex rating drop? I heard it’s like.

Got the new extreme TOUR about a month ago. I’m a teaching pro on the Philly area. It is a hitters racquet. It feels solid and a little more (softer) forgiving then the previous one. The new colors are very distinct. I will recommend it to my players

What are those black strings in your demo extremes?

Signum Pro Tornado

Demoed the current Extreme Tour and really liked it. It’s currently being sold at a steal of a discount of $149. Was considering a purchase but then heard about the update. Wonder if the new one will be worth the extra money (and that lime green – yeesh). Also, very curious how the new Extreme Tour will compare to the Pure Aero VS.

Thanks so much for all the tennis content. You’re awesome!

I think you will be happy with the current one, it’s not a huge update. You get more power but also stiffness with the Aero VS.

Thanks! You just swayed me considerably. I’ll see what you also have to say in your review. Can’t wait! Thanks for all the insightful content.

Friend, I am using the head 360+ extreme tour and there is no point, I don’t know if it is the low stiffness (sub 65 RA) but I feel that it is difficult for me to accelerate the swing. I increased the weight of the racket by 6 grams at 12 o’clock. Even so, I feel that the acceleration is not very fast. Can this be fixed by counteracting those extra grams with one gram in the grip? Even my custom prestige auxetic tour with six grams at 12 o’clock feels faster. Please help. I want this racket to feel like my old yonex vcore 98 from 2018.

Head Extreme MP (2022) Review

Head claims the extreme can overwhelm your opponent with hard-hitting spin, and it features a better feel, and stability than previous versions. how does it play.

Martina

As a tennis player, finding the right racket can make all the difference in your game, and it can be challenging to navigate the sea of options on the market, but one option gaining popularity is the Head Extreme MP (2022).

This last version was released in September 2022 and, together with the Extreme Tour, Extreme MP Light, Extreme Team and Extreme Team Light, is part of the latest Head Extreme Line endorsed by Matteo Berrettini and Richard Gasquet.

I recently had the opportunity to test out this racket and wanted to share my thoughts and experiences.

In this review, I will be taking a closer look at the Head Extreme MP and exploring its features, benefits, and drawbacks.

I will also compare it to other rackets on the market and provide recommendations for players considering purchasing it.

Head Extreme MP Cosmetics

However, the classic Head Extreme shape remained with a wide throat and oblong head.

The Head Extreme MP is designed to offer a balance of power, control, and spin. It has a 100-square-inch head displaying enlarged grommets, which provides a large sweet spot and helps players maintain accuracy even when they do not make perfect contact.

It also has an open string pattern designed to facilitate the generation of heavy spins.

Specification and Setup

head extreme mp specs

For this playtest, I had the Extreme MP strung with a full bed of Dunlop Black Widow at 22kg (48.5 lbs).

Head Extreme MP Playtest and Review

head extreme mp closeup

The playtest with the Head Extreme MP 2022 was on outdoor hardcourts, and I used it for several hours over four days to get a good idea of how it played.

For reference and to understand some of my findings with the Extreme, I currently play with a Yonex VCORE 100 in competitive play.

First Impressions

One of the things I immediately appreciated about the Head Extreme MP was its sizeable sweet spot.

luxilon element forest green

Especially at night, with artificial lights, I sometimes struggle to make perfect contact with the ball.

For this reason, having a racket that can still provide power and accuracy on off-centre hits made me feel more secure while hitting.

The open string pattern also lived up to its promise of helping me generate spin and control the trajectory of my shots.

The lightweight design of the Head Extreme MP 100 inch was also a plus for me. I like to generate plenty of racket head speed, and this racket made it easy to do so without feeling heavy or cumbersome.

The balance of power, control, and spin also worked well for my game, as I prioritise precision and accuracy over raw power.

However, it wasn’t all good news. While the Head Extreme MP worked well for me in many respects, I noticed some potential drawbacks.

For one, despite the Head’s attempt to create a reasonably powerful racket through enlarged grommets, the lack of power may concern some players.

While I appreciated the balance of power, control, and spin, I can see how it could create a sense of insecurity and limitation in players that like to rely on their power game,

Moreover, in my opinion, the stiffness of the Head Extreme MP is another cause for concern.

Even though it’s mid-range at 65RA and did not bother me too much during the first couple hours of play, I felt an uncomfortable tingle in both my wrist and elbow at the third-hour mark.

Finally, from my point of view, the price of the Head Extreme MP is a big drawback. While I appreciated some of the features and benefits of this racket, I would not identify it as a professional-level racket.

For this reason, I would not expect its price to be on the higher end of the market. I believe intermediate-level players could find similar options for a more affordable price.

Groundstrokes

During the first 30 minutes of play, I recognised that the Head Extreme MP would not match my expectations.

Even though the design allowed me to generate a good amount of spin, the ball appeared to die right after the bounce.

In both forehand and backhand, I could not transfer enough weight onto the ball, which resulted in overall “empty” spins.

I appreciated the manoeuvrability of this lightweight racket that allowed me to produce a significant amount of head speed and maintain good control of the trajectory of my groundstrokes.

However, this characteristic did not compensate for the lack of power a professional player would desire from the baseline.

As an all-court player, I trust my volleys to close a point. Therefore, I want to feel comfortable executing the shot without second-guessing the reliability of the racket.

While I felt the Head Extreme MP could provide good control from the baseline, I had different feelings about the net.

I felt the racket to be empty on impact, and I could not direct my shot with the precision I wanted.

Moreover, the lack of power significantly affected my overhead, often forcing me to hit two or more in a row to finish a point.

I think the serve is the shot that least benefits from the Head Extreme MP. Although I could consistently hit the ball safely in the court, my serve did not cause any trouble to the returner.

I found that my sliced serve would not gain enough speed, while my kick second serve did not bounce high enough to become difficult to attack.

While returning, I could finally enjoy the manoeuvrability of the Head Extreme MP fully. Especially when I tried to return against big serves, I utilised the enlarged sweet spot and light weight of the racket to move it into position quickly and hit my return on the rise.

In this way, I could compensate for the racket’s lack of power by taking in the power of the serve and using it as my own.

Who is this Racket For?

head extreme mp line

According to the manufacturer’s description, the Head Extreme MP is a tennis racket designed for intermediate to advanced-level players with a modern playing style who prefer a racket with power and spin.

However, I do not believe that any advanced-level players would genuinely benefit from using this racket.

All the marketing around the Extreme MP claims it is particularly suited for players who like to hit aggressive shots from the baseline and who generate a lot of topspin. Yet, I find that the weight and power transferred to the ball are not up to the standards of many other rackets I have used.

In conclusion, the Head Extreme MP would best suit low to intermediate-level players rather than advanced-level players.

I would suggest this racket to 3.0-4.0 NTRP players looking for control and consistency during points but not relying on their power or attacking abilities to win their matches.

Higher-level players should look elsewhere. Otherwise, the Extreme MP will need to be heavily customised.

Final Thoughts

head extreme mp playtest

As an advanced-level player, I can say that my final impression of the Head Extreme MP is primarily negative.

It does not allow professional and higher-level players to fully express their potential through their shots.

On the other hand, I think it could help intermediate-level players feel secure that their shots, even if not too powerful, will consistently land on the court.

However, in my opinion, the price of the racket is too high for what the product offers: the quality-price ratio does not seem worth it (especially given Artengo’s offering ), and I would wait until it drops in price to consider purchasing.

Head Extreme MP 2022 Review

Control - 7.5, manoeuvrability - 8, stability - 5, comfort - 3, touch/feel - 6, groundstrokes - 7, volleys - 5, returns - 8, underwhelming.

My experience with the Head Extreme MP is mostly negative. It does not allow higher-level players to express their potential through their shots. But it could help intermediate-level players feel secure that their shots, even if not too powerful, will consistently land on the court.

Head Graphene 360 Extreme MP Racquet Review

Head Graphene 360 Extreme MP Racquet Main Image

With an updated look and feel, the Head Graphene 360 Extreme MP left a lasting impression on our playtesters. The addition of wider string spacing and Graphene 360 spin grommets gives this racquet an extremely spin-friendly response. It also features new Graphene 360 technology, which reinforces strategic locations in the hoop for added stability. Our playtesters found that the close-to-even balance and near-330 swingweight also contributed to the racquet's solid response. The high launch angle made hitting with depth easy, but some playtesters experienced issues with control when hitting flatter shots. Stability at net was impressive for an 11.2-ounce racquet, and the ability to drive through serves with ample pace and loads of spin made this racquet suitable for all playing styles. Our testers who were familiar with previous iterations found this update to be an improvement in feel and playability, and first-timers to the Extreme line were just as impressed with the racquet's performance. Overall, intermediate to advanced players looking for a racquet that can add spin and power to their game should be sure to check out this latest edition of the Extreme MP.

  • Can lack control on flatter shots

Bottom Line

This Graphene 360 Extreme MP swings with more heft than its 11.2-ounce weight would suggest, and it lets players load their shots with spin while retaining power.

Intermediate to advanced

Groundstrokes - Score: 84

Across the board, our playtesters enjoyed rallying from the baseline with the Head Graphene 360 Extreme MP thanks to the easy depth, spin and pace they could tap into. Though she hasn't been drawn to Extremes of the past, Tiffani was won over by this new iteration. She explained, "I came away really impressed with this update. In the past, the Extreme series honestly hasn't been my favorite, but I felt really confident with the Graphene 360 Extreme MP. It swung with a good amount of heft for its static weight, so it felt stable and comfortable. Even with the extra swingweight, I was finding easy access to spin, and the trajectory of my shots was much higher than with my own Prince Textreme Tour 100P, which has a tighter string pattern. The extra arc on my ball took some getting used to, but I ended up liking that height. I was able to drive through the ball with this racquet, but on the flip side, I could add that higher arc when I wanted to buy myself extra time to get back into position. Although the swingweight is a bit higher than I prefer, I didn't find the racquet too difficult to use overall. I struggled with two shots in particular: When I let the ball get too high over my shoulder, especially on the forehand side, I tended to dump the ball into the net, and on my cross-court dipper I didn't always get enough wrist flick, so I'd drive the ball wide. The Extreme MP felt comfortable overall and had noticeably better ball feel than the previous version."

Mark was also pleased with this update. He was quick to find his groove from the back of the court, saying, "I really liked the direction Head went with the previous iteration, the Graphene Touch Extreme MP, which featured a less round head shape and a firm but not stiff beam. These two versions are pretty similar, but this new Graphene 360 version feels a little stiffer in the hoop. Exchanging heavy groundstrokes with the Graphene 360 Extreme MP was a lot of fun. Its 11.2-ounce weight and high 320 swingweight offered a great blend of maneuverability and stability. Within two hours of baseline rallies, I was consistently nailing my targets with decent pace and spin, making this my favorite part of the playtest."

New to the Extreme line, Kristen was left with a positive first impression. She said, "I was really impressed with this racquet's playability. Right off the bat, I'll say that it's a great weapon for the aggressive topspin player. The access to spin was exceptional, and when I was loading my balls with spin they seemed to soar over the net with a lot of arc and drop sharply down at the baseline. Slice shots were also easy to hit effectively. I got a bit caught on groundstrokes when I tried to flatten out the ball, especially when I was going for a big, flat winner. In those instances, the ball tended to launch on me. The more I played with this Graphene 360 Extreme MP, though, the more I got dialed in on the style of play that fits it best, which is putting spin on every shot. Once I figured that out, I was getting better control and placement."

Like Kristen, Jason also took advantage of this racquet's launch angle and spin on groundstrokes. He described, "I immediately noticed the higher launch angle, which resulted in easier depth. The Graphene 360 Extreme MP provided great pop on my shots, as well as lots of spin. With the new 360 Spin Grommets and the open string pattern, I definitely noticed the great access to spin, which I thought was necessary to help reel in some of the racquet's power. The downside to all that power was that I found myself launching shots when I wasn't focused on putting topspin on the ball."

Volleys - Score: 82

On volleys, the Graphene 360 Extreme MP proved to offer exceptional stability for a racquet of its weight class. Jason elaborated, "I thought the Graphene 360 Extreme MP performed well up at net. It provided easy put-away power, and I also enjoyed it on my touch volleys and drop shots. I was pleasantly surprised by the stability I was getting from this 11.2-ounce racquet. I found that mishits toward the top of the hoop resulted in a more jarring response compared to shanks that hit around 3 and 9 o'clock."

The improved feel of the new Extreme MP became most apparent to Mark at net. He said, "At net is where I can develop an idea as to what sort of 'feel' a racquet provides. With the exception of the Graphene Touch Extreme MP, prior models of the Head Extreme MP were never really discussed in terms of 'feel,' since they were so darn stiff. This new Graphene 360 Extreme MP is all about feel and dwell time, with its 63 RA giving me an extra moment to develop, disguise or change the direction of my volley."

Tiffani appreciated being able to add some new dynamics to her net game. She said, "Although I'm not as comfortable at net as I am at the baseline, I enjoyed volleying with the Graphene 360 Extreme MP. It felt stable, especially considering its weight, and it was just maneuverable enough. I typically don't use much variety at net and have hands like bricks, but I happily found myself using touch volleys and drop shots with success. If I had to guess, it was the little bit of extra flex from the Extreme MP's beam that was helping me in the touch department."

Kristen had no qualms at net and found herself moving forward with confidence. She said, "This racquet played great at net right from the start. It was one area where I didn't need an adjustment period. My volleys just felt super solid, and I could consistently send everything back without much issue. I felt confident at net whether I was blocking back balls or going for an aggressive volley."

Serves - Score: 82

Plenty of plow through, pace and spin made the Graphene 360 Extreme MP a hit with our playtesters on serve. Although Kristen found that she had to add some rotation to keep her serves from going long, this was still her favorite part of the playtest. She said, "I really loved serving with this Graphene 360 Extreme MP, even though it did swing a bit heavier on serves compared to the head-light balance and lower swingweight I'm used to. This racquet didn't feel whippy on serves. Instead, it offered a solid feel with great access to spin and pace. I struggled with placing flatter serves with this racquet (they would often land a tad long), but as long as I added a touch of spin I could place my serves well and start the point in a good position."

Jason also noted the importance of putting spin on his serves. He said, "I struggled with this racquet when I tried to hit flatter serves. My flat serves were consistently going long, probably because of the open string pattern and the nearly 330 swingweight. However, I liked that I could put a lot of rotation on the ball without sacrificing pace when I tried to just spin a serve in."

Thanks to the specs of the frame, Mark was able to drive through his serves effectively. He explained, "Typically, I prefer a heavier racquet on serve and a slightly lighter one from the baseline, knowing all the while that you can't have it both ways. Thanks to the pairing of a slightly tip-light balance and high 320 swingweight, the Graphene 360 Extreme MP allowed me to deliver some penetrating serves without much effort."

Tiffani had to adjust to the feel of the frame before she started finding success on her serves. She elaborated, "It took me a few serves to find my rhythm with this Extreme MP. It took a bit more to initiate my swing, and I needed to be sure to complete my motion. I have a bad habit of not following through on my service motion and just letting the racquet decelerate after contact. When I did that with this racquet my serves tended to sit up and not penetrate at all through the court. When I was using better technique and swinging all the way through, my serves were much better. I had a tougher time generating spin on my serves than I did on my groundstrokes, but that's due more to shortcomings in my motion than anything."

Returns - Score: 81

The stable response of the Graphene 360 Extreme MP allowed our playtesters to both defend and attack when returning. Kristen enjoyed swinging big on returns. She noted, "I found this to be a really solid racquet to return with. When I got my timing right I was hitting aggressive, yet controlled, returns. I was also impressed by how well this racquet handled pace when I hit more defensive returns."

Although lighter than his racquet of choice, Mark was also pleasantly surprised by this racquet's performance on returns. He said, "Although I do gravitate toward slightly heavier racquets, I must concede that the new Extreme MP nicely complemented my return. Again, I will credit to the combination of overall weight, stiffness, close-to-even balance and substantial swingweight for why I could vary my return with either a more offensive or defensive reply."

Tiffani found good precision when returning. She remarked, "I was happy to see how easy it was to tap into extra spin on returns. My returns are generally the flattest shots I hit, but I liked how I could add a bit of extra spin to keep my returns in the court. Once again, the Graphene 360 Extreme MP felt solid and comfortable. I had trouble taking shots early, but I still liked that I could move the ball around as needed."

Enjoying some good depth on his returns, Jason found tapping into the racquet's spin potential essential. He said, "For the majority of the serves I faced, this racquet was a solid, versatile weapon. I could tee off on slower serves, and I found easy depth when blocking or chipping a serve back. I struggled when I tried to be more aggressive against bigger hitters. I thought the racquet felt a bit sluggish and didn't come around as fast as I'm used to. Like my groundstrokes, I definitely needed to make sure I was hitting with lots of spin to keep my returns in the court."

Overall - Score: 83

Tiffani - "Although I don't consider myself much of a spin player, I like how easy it is to hit topspin with this Graphene 360 Extreme MP when I need it. At the same time, I can still hit my flatter shots with success. This racquet feels stable and comfortable."

Kristen - "There is great access to topspin and power. This racquet feels stable at the net."

Mark - "With the new Graphene 360 Extreme MP, Head paired the same low 11-ounce strung weight with a more flexible layup of graphite. This more flexible frame allowed me to play painlessly through the entire playtest without sensing a decline in power, which is perhaps the most impressive aspect of playing with this modern player's frame."

Jason - "There's great power and spin here, and the racquet makes it easy to hit with depth."

Tiffani - "There's not much I don't like. I struggled with high balls and hitting dippers because of the higher swingweight, but it's something I could adapt to with some time."

Kristen - "The Graphene 360 Extreme MP lacks control on flatter shots."

Mark - "This is more of a subjective thing, but the weight of the Extreme Pro suits me a little better, so I might give the Extreme MP a bit of the 'Troy treatment' and add at least a leather grip."

Jason - "The higher launch angle takes some getting used to, and the Graphene 360 Extreme MP would launch the ball if I hit a flatter shot."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Tiffani - "The Graphene 360 Extreme MP is my favorite Extreme MP to date. I tested the lighter version of the previous model, and this Graphene 360 Extreme MP feels more solid than the Graphene Touch Extreme Lite. Because of the easy spin factor, I would also look at the Babolat Pure Aero, Yonex VCORE 100 and Wilson Ultra 100."

Kristen - "With its generous access to topspin and its more even balance, the Tecnifibre ATP TFight 300 XTC comes to mind as a comparable racquet. The VCORE 100 also boasted similar access to topspin and arc. Although, when compared to those frames, I found that the Graphene 360 Extreme MP offers a bit more stability from around the court and has a more forgiving feel."

Mark - "I used to compare Extreme MP and Pro to frames like the Babolat Pure Drive and the Pure Drive Tour/Roddick. However, Head has taken its foot off the stiff frame throttle, so to speak, and also modified the head shape to a more oval configuration. The result was favorable to my game style and my desire for comfort. Now I can compare the last two iterations of the Head Extreme MP to the Wilson Blade 98 (16x19), the Prince Textreme Warrior 100, the Pro Kennex Ki Q+ Tour (300) and the Yonex VCORE 100 (300). Relative to the way the frame bends at contact with the ball, the Graphene 360 Extreme MP also reminds me of the Yonex EZONE 98 (305)."

Jason - "The Graphene 360 Extreme MP has specs very similar to the Pure Strike 16x19, but the Graphene 360 Extreme MP gives me more power and depth while the Pure Strike wins for control and feel."
