Day 6: Sightseeing in Yazd - O/N Yazd

Yazd is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns of Iran. The old town of Yazd dominated by minarets, adobe structures, and the ingeniously-designed wind towers that served as cooling systems, would be a highlight of this trip. Yazd is also the center of Iran’s Zoroastrian community, which is where you’ll begin the day’s sightseeing.

Our visits start with Towers of Silence, where Zoroastrians used to leave dead bodies until the mid-1900s. According to Zoroastrian rules, dead should not be buried under ground. They were transported to these enclosures built on hill tops, where they were left to decompose.

The next site will be the Zoroastrian fire temple. At this still-active Zoroastrian Fire Temple, you’ll see a sacred flame that is said to have been burning for the past 1,500 years.

In Amir Chakhmaq Square, you’ll see a very impressive structure. Although more often described as the entrance to a now non-existent bazaar, the chief function of Amir-Chakhmaq structure is known as a Tekyeh (congregation place for rituals) and the square before it, was to host Ta'ziyeh ( a cycle of passion plays commemorating the martyrdom of the third Imam of Shiites, Imam Hossein) which takes place once a year during the mourning month of Moharram. The site dating from fifteenth century, is named after its builder, Amir Jalal Al-Din Chakhmagh,  governor of Yard.

The next place to visit is the Friday Mosque of Yazd (Yazd Jamee Mosque) built in 1324, where you can gaze upon the tallest mosque minarets in the country.

Visits:  - Yazd Jameh Mosque - Mir Chakhmaq Complex - Zoroastrian Fire Temple - Towers of Silence

Day 7: Drive to Isfahan via Naein - O/N Isfahan

We embark on the 300km desert drive from Yazd to Isfahan which in some parts is aligned with Pistachio fields. We break the road at Naein (Nain) where we can have lunch and a short visit to one of the oldest mosques of Iran.

Naein Jameh Mosque

Day 8: Sightseeing in Isfahan - O/N Isfahan

In the square, you’ll visit the 17th-century Imam Mosque, easily recognized by its magnificent blue tile-work and soaring dome and minarets. It is known as the most beautiful mosque of Iran and a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. We will also visit Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, also known as the Ladies Mosque due to its function believed to be the private mosque of the King's wives. It is renowned for a bright color domed, where and its amazing interior.

The next stop will be at Aali Qapu Palace, where you’ll marvel at its beautiful music hall ceiling and the balconies where Safavid kings would sit to enjoy the polo competitions taking place in the square. We'll finish our exploration of the square by visiting the Qeisarieh Bazaar with hundreds of local shops selling traditional handicrafts and art. It’s a wonderful market to shop your souvenirs.

Next up is Chehel Sotun Palace, set in the middle of a beautiful garden in front of a huge reflecting pool. This graceful pavilion was built under Shah Abbas II for entertainment and court receptions. Chehel Sotoun meaning the "Forty Column" is a long-standing relic of the Safavid rule in Iran, which fascinates visitors with its amazing and original architecture. The splendid mural paintings of Chehel sotoun are just one of its many attractions.

Day 10: Drive to Tehran, visit Abyaneh Village and Kashan en-route /Departure

Kashan is an ancient oasis town, 250 km from Tehran, famous for rose water, hand-woven carpets and great architecture. Kashan was the favorite city of Shah Abbas the Great, the 16th-century king responsible for so much of Iran’s development. Located on an altitude of 1600 m on the rim of the central Salt Desert , the city dates back to prehistoric times. The city name probably means “summer houses built of wood and reeds". Archeological discoveries in the Sialk Hills which lie 2.5 miles (4 km) west of Kashan reveal that this region was one of the primary centers of civilization in pre-historic ages.

Overnight: Tehran

Day 2 Tehran

Our Tehran city tour begins with a visit to the Iran National Museum , where we'll get a fascinating glimpse into the advanced cultures of Persia, with unique exhibits from Susa and Persepolis. Don't miss the famous throne relief of Darius I, a true highlight of the museum. Next up is a visit to the stunning Golestan Palace , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll be amazed by the extensive complex, which includes the marble throne room, the tomb of Naser ad-Din Shah, the summer palace, and the reception palace with the coronation hall. We'll take a break in the well-kept palace garden and soak in the beauty of this historic site. After lunch, we'll explore the bustling Tehran Grand Bazaar , one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East. Here, we'll find a maze of shops and stalls selling everything from spices and textiles to jewelry and carpets. It's a true feast for the senses, with vibrant colors, exotic scents, and the sounds of bargaining filling the air. In the afternoon, we'll visit the National Jewelry Museum , located in the National Bank of Iran. Here, we'll have the unique opportunity to view what is perhaps the largest collection of treasures in the world. The highly secured jewel museum presents the crown jewels of the Shahs, including the world's largest pink diamond, called the Sea of Light, the Imperial Crown of Farah Dibas, and the legendary Peacock Throne. We'll be overwhelmed by the sheer beauty and grandeur of these treasures. The first day in Iran ends with a traditional dinner, where we'll have the chance to sample the delicious flavors of Persian cuisine. Get ready for an unforgettable culinary experience! Overnight: Tehran

Day 3 Tehran / Kashan / Isfahan

Today, we bid farewell to the bustling city of Tehran and embark on a scenic drive towards Kashan. Along the way, we'll pass the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in Qom and take in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding landscapes. Our first stop is the tranquil Fin Garden , a stunning example of Persian horticulture. We'll stroll through the garden's intricate waterways and pavilions, admiring the beauty of this peaceful oasis. Next, we'll explore the well-preserved old town of Kashan and visit the historic Tabatabaee House , where we'll gain insight into the city's rich history and culture. In the evening, we'll arrive in Isfahan, widely considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient. After a delicious dinner, our expert guide will take us on a leisurely walk to the famous Naghsh-e Jahan Square , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we'll marvel at the stunning architecture and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this historic landmark. Overnight: Isfahan

Day 4 Isfahan

Today, we'll explore the breathtaking city of Isfahan, known as "half of the world" for its stunning architecture and rich history. Our first stop is the 17th-century Vank Cathedral in Jolfa, the Armenian district of Isfahan. Here, we'll admire the colorful frescoes, wall and ceiling paintings that make this cathedral famous beyond Iran. Next, we'll visit the impressive Khaju Bridge , a popular meeting place for young people, and the Jame Mosque , known for its size and four facing Ivane (entrance portals) from different eras. As we continue our tour, we'll discover the architectural masterpieces of Shah Abbas' flourishing metropolis. Around the stunning Naghsh-e Jahan Square , the second largest square in the world and the most beautiful in the Orient, we'll visit the Ali Qapu Palace , the Lotfollah Mosque , also known as the Women's Mosque, and the Imam Mosque with its azure dome. We'll also admire the Chehel Sotun (40-column palace) in the middle of a lush green garden, which is reminiscent of Indian architecture. Our day ends at Naghsh-e Jahan Square, where we'll have the opportunity to relax in a tea house under the arcades or explore the bazaar district with our travel companion. Take in the beauty of this stunning city, which truly lives up to its nickname of "half of the world." Overnight: Isfahan

Day 5 Isfahan / Nain / Yazd

Today, we'll depart from Isfahan and make our way to the carpet city of Nain , our first destination of the day. Here, we'll visit the Nain Friday Mosque , one of the oldest working mosques in the region, built in the 10th century. We'll be impressed by the Abbasid stylistic elements, the winter prayer hall, and the valuable wood carvings, which make this mosque truly worth seeing. In the afternoon, we'll arrive in the desert city of Yazd and take a stroll through the well-preserved old town with its fascinating mud houses. We'll visit the stunning Amir Chaqmaq Square , featuring a grandstand for the passion play, and the impressive Jame Mosque , with its high entrance iwan, azure tile decorations, and slender minarets. Yazd is also known as the center of Zoroastrianism in Iran, and we'll have the opportunity to learn about their traditions. Our first stop will be the Tower of Silence , where we'll gain insight into the special burial rituals of this religious community. Then, we'll visit the Zoroastrian Fire Temple , the most important sanctuary of Zoroastrianism in Iran, with a flame that has been burning without interruption for 1,500 years. Our day ends in Yazd, where we'll have the chance to relax and take in the unique atmosphere of this desert city. Overnight: Yazd

Day 6 Yazd / Pasargadae / Shiraz

Today, we'll leave Yazd in the morning and head towards the city of Abarkuh , where we'll visit a 200-year-old ice house. This ingenious structure allowed ice to be stored in winter and preserved until summer without the need for air conditioning. It's a fascinating example of traditional Iranian engineering. After our visit, we'll continue our journey to Pasargadae , where we'll visit the tomb of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Persian Empire and a revered figure in Iranian history. In the afternoon, we'll arrive in Shiraz, known as the city of poets and gardens. We'll take a stroll through the famous Bazar-e-Vakil , an architectural masterpiece from the 18th century, where we'll have the opportunity to buy souvenirs and immerse ourselves in the bustling atmosphere of this historic market. Overnight: Shiraz

Day 7 Shiraz / Persepolis

Today, we'll explore some of the most fascinating sites in Iran, starting with Persepolis , a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the world. We'll spend the morning exploring the extensive palace complex, just as the envoys of 28 peoples did 2,500 years ago. We'll marvel at the residential palace of Xerxes, the reliefs depicting tributary peoples, and the great audience hall. Next, we'll visit Naqsh-e Rostam , the neighboring necropolis where the tombs of Achaemenid kings and Sasanian reliefs are carved into a mighty rock face. Among the tombs is the one of Darius I, the founder of Persepolis. Back in Shiraz, we'll visit the tombs of the famous poets Hafez and Saadi , located in magnificent Persian gardens. We'll hear some verses of the poets in their mother tongue from our guide and experience the special atmosphere of the gardens, popular meeting places for Iranian youth. In the city center, we'll visit the Shah Cheragh holy shrine , one of the most important Shia shrines in Iran. We'll feel the unique atmosphere that emanates from this sacred place up close. Our day ends in Shiraz, where we can reflect on the rich history and culture of this beautiful city. Overnight: Shiraz

Day 8 Departure

Today, we'll say goodbye to Iran and head to Shiraz airport to catch our flight back home. Depending on our flight time, we may have the opportunity to enjoy an optional city tour before departing. As we reflect on our journey, we'll realize that our experience in Iran has left an indelible mark on us. We'll cherish the memories of the fascinating sites we visited, the delicious cuisine we tasted, and the warm hospitality we received from the friendly and open-hearted people we met along the way.
