[Solved] Dodge Journey Bluetooth Not Working (Simple Fix)

If you’re a Dodge Journey car owner, chances are that you have experienced some trouble with your Bluetooth connections. Whether it be connecting to the vehicle or staying connected, this can be a frustrating issue.

Fortunately, in this article there are several steps that you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully fix issues you may have with your Bluetooth connection in your Dodge Journey.

Why is Dodge Journey Bluetooth Not Working?

The first step is to understand why your Bluetooth connection may not be working. There are a few potential causes, so you must take the time to identify which one applies to you. Common reasons include:

Low Battery

Outdated software, interference from other signals, improper connection setup, faulty device firmware/software updates, bluetooth not activated or enabled on the device, incorrect pin or passcode entered.

  • Incorrect Network Settings

The Device is Not Compatible with Bluetooth

Errors with the bluetooth connection, poor connection or signal strength, too far away from the bluetooth device, the device is paired with another device, the vehicle’s infotainment system needed resetting or updating.

The first thing to check is your device’s battery.

Make sure your device has enough power before trying to pair it with your Dodge Journey.

A low battery can prevent the connection from being established in the first place, or it can cause an existing connection to drop out.

Signs: You may see a message on your device that it is running out of battery.

Your device may also take longer than usual to connect or disconnect from other devices, such as headsets or car audio systems.

Solutions: Make sure that the device you’re trying to connect has enough power for a stable Bluetooth connection.

If the battery is low, charge it before attempting to reconnect with your Dodge Journey again. Once it is fully charged, you should be able to establish a connection.

Your device may also be running an outdated version of the software, which can prevent the connection from being established in the first place.

Visit the manufacturer’s website and download any available updates for your device.

Signs: You may notice that your device is displaying an error message or a warning message that it is out of date.

Solutions: To ensure a stable connection with your Dodge Journey, make sure that the software on both devices is up-to-date.

Check for any available updates on your device’s settings page and then attempt to reconnect with your Dodge Journey once the updates have been installed.

  • Go to your car settings and select the “Bluetooth” option.
  • Select “Update Software”.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the update process.
  • After the update is complete, try connecting your device again.

If you are still having issues, try restarting your device or your car’s Bluetooth system.

After troubleshooting, you should be able to successfully connect your device to the Dodge Journey’s Bluetooth system.

Sometimes, interference from other signals can disrupt the Bluetooth connection.

Wireless networks and other Bluetooth devices nearby can block the connection of your Dodge Journey. This interference is especially common in areas where wireless signals are dense, like airports or busy urban streets.

Signs: Your Dodge Journey may experience the following signs of interference: Bluetooth connection drops intermittently, Slow or choppy audio transmission and Inability to connect to other devices.

Solutions: Fortunately, there are measures you can take to reduce this kind of interference and hopefully restore your Bluetooth connection.

To start, try moving away from any electronic devices that might be causing disruption. You can also change the frequency of your Bluetooth connection to a less congested channel.

To avoid this issue, make sure that you are not in an area with a lot of wireless activity. It is also best to turn off any Wi-Fi networks or cellular connections while attempting to connect your device to the Dodge Journey.

If the Bluetooth device is not properly connected to your Dodge Journey, you may experience issues with its connection.

Signs: Improper setup can lead to problems such as slow audio transmission or inability to connect other devices.

Your Dodge Journey might also display the following signs of an improper connection setup – difficulty connecting with other devices, inadequate audio streaming quality and unreliable connection.

Solutions: To fix this, check the connection settings of your Dodge Journey’s Bluetooth device. Make sure that both devices are properly paired and all the necessary settings have been enabled.

Additionally, try toggling the Bluetooth on and off to reset its connection to your vehicle.

It is also possible that the Bluetooth device’s firmware or software has been updated incorrectly, resulting in a faulty connection with your Dodge Journey.

Firmware are programs pre-installed in a device that control how the device functions. While software updates are commonly used to improve the performance of a device, but if an incorrect version is installed, it could lead to connectivity issues.

Signs: Incorrect updates will often lead to errors such as slow audio streaming, inability to connect to other devices and unreliable connections.

Solutions: To fix this issue, you should first update all necessary drivers on your Dodge Journey. Additionally, reset the Bluetooth device’s settings and try again. If this fails, you might need to manually update the firmware/software of your device.

You must always check for updates on both devices before connecting them. This will ensure a more stable connection with better audio streaming quality.

Steps to Update the Software of Dodge Journey Bluetooth:

  • Start by connecting the device to your Dodge Journey’s Bluetooth system.
  • Go to the device’s settings and locate the ‘Software Update’ option.
  • Select ‘Update Software’ and follow the on-screen instructions accordingly.
  • Wait for the download to finish before disconnecting the device from your Dodge Journey.
  • Now turn off the device and restart it for the new software update to take effect.
  • Turn on your Dodge Journey’s Bluetooth again, and make sure that your device is now connected properly.

If the Bluetooth on your device is not enabled or activated, you won’t be able to connect it to the Dodge Journey.

Signs: You will know that Bluetooth is not activated or enabled on your device when you don’t see the Bluetooth icon in your Settings menu.

You should also check whether your device has a version of software that supports Bluetooth connections, as this may affect your ability to connect to the Dodge Journey.

Take Time to Pair Your Device with the Vehicle as it can take several minutes to pair your device with the Dodge Journey, so be sure to give it enough time.

Once you’ve ensured that your device and vehicle are both on and ready to pair, select the “Pair” option from the Bluetooth menu of your device.

You may need to enter a code provided by the vehicle before the process is complete.

To enable or activate Bluetooth on your device, please take the following steps:

  • Open “Settings” on your device.
  • Select “Bluetooth” in the settings menu.
  • Ensure that the Bluetooth feature is toggled ON and visible.
  • Go back to the main Settings page and select- “More” to access additional settings.
  • Select the option to enable or activate a Bluetooth connection with the vehicle.

You should now be able to connect your device using Bluetooth when in range of the Dodge Journey. Be sure to check that you are within range for it to work properly as this can also affect connection and sound quality.

If the incorrect PIN or passcode is entered when trying to pair your device with the Dodge Journey, it will not be able to connect.

Solutions: To resolve this issue, try deleting and re-pairing your device using the correct code. You can also reset both the vehicle’s Bluetooth connection and that of your device to ensure that the pairing process runs as smoothly as possible.

With a few simple steps, you should now be able to troubleshoot any Bluetooth connection issues with your Dodge Journey.

Incorrect Network SettingsIf incorrect network settings have been applied to your device, it could prevent it from connecting to the Dodge Journey via Bluetooth. To ensure that this isn’t the issue, try resetting the network settings on both your device and vehicle.

To reset the network settings of your device, follow these steps:

  • Go to “Settings- Select the option to “Reset Network Settings”
  • After resetting your device’s network settings, repeat this process for the vehicle.

This should ensure that all networks associated with your Dodge Journey are properly set up and ready to connect via Bluetooth.

Sometimes, the device you are trying to connect may not be compatible with the Dodge Journey. To avoid any issues arising in this case, always check that your device is Bluetooth-capable and also has the correct version of Bluetooth installed (if applicable).

Solutions: To make sure your device is compatible with the vehicle’s Bluetooth connection, take the following steps:

  • Look up the version of Bluetooth your device is compatible with and make sure it matches the version installed on the Dodge Journey.
  • If you find that your device is not compatible, try connecting a different device with one that is compatible.

By taking these measures, you can ensure that any incompatibility issues between your device and the Dodge Journey are addressed.

If you have verified that both your device and the Dodge Journey have compatible Bluetooth versions, but the connection still isn’t working, then there may be some errors occurring on the vehicle side of things.

In some cases, you may encounter error codes when attempting to connect your device to the Dodge Journey via Bluetooth. Some common error codes that can appear include ERROR-11, ERROR-14 and ERROR-17.

Each of these error codes is associated with a different issue relating to the Bluetooth connection and needs to be addressed differently to establish a successful connection.

Solutions: To diagnose this issue, try restarting your car and completely disconnecting any other devices from its Bluetooth connection.

Once this is done, try connecting your device again and see if the connection works.

On certain occasions, the connection between your device and the Dodge Journey may be weak or unreliable. This can occur if the vehicle is located too far away from your device, or if there are any obstructions in the way of the signal (e.g. walls or furniture).

Poor connection between devices may be indicated by several symptoms, such as choppy audio playback, music skipping or interruption in streaming.

It can also lead to slow data transfers between the two devices and even disconnection when attempting to make calls.

Solutions: If you encounter any issues with poor signal strength, try moving closer to the car or relocating any obstructing objects to improve the signal strength.

You can also try connecting via an external device such as a Bluetooth dongle or a car phone holder, which may help to provide a more reliable connection.

Sometimes, your Dodge Journey might be too far away from your device for a successful connection. This is especially true if you leave the car outside while attempting to connect your phone.

Signs: The symptom of being too far away will be noticed when you try to connect your device, but it does not appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices on your phone. Additionally, if the connection is successful, it may be unreliable and suffer from poor signal strength.

Solution: To ensure that a successful connection is made, make sure you are within range of the Bluetooth device before attempting to connect.

Your Dodge Journey may be paired with another device, such as a laptop or tablet, and thus unable to pair with a new device.

Signs: This symptom will usually manifest itself when you cannot find your device in the list of available Bluetooth devices on your phone. Additionally, sometimes the connection is successful but episodic and unstable.

Solution: To solve this issue, go to the settings page on your Dodge Journey’s infotainment system and delete any existing pairings before attempting to connect with a new device.

If these solutions do not work for you, try resetting that causes Dodge Journey Bluetooth not to work, The resetting process for your Dodge Journey’s Bluetooth can be done within the infotainment system.

To do this, go to Settings and then navigate to Network & Connectivity. From there, you should see an option that lets you “Forget” any existing pairings. Select that option and then reboot your device before trying to connect again.

If the above solutions do not work, it may be necessary to reset or update your Dodge Journey’s infotainment system. This can often resolve any issues with Bluetooth connectivity.

Signs: This symptom can manifest itself when your device is paired successfully but the connection is unstable or constantly dropping.

Other signs include if the infotainment system takes too long to respond to commands or does not recognize your device altogether.

Solution: To solve this issue, try resetting your vehicle’s infotainment system. You can do this by accessing the Settings page and going to System Updates.

From there, you should see an option that lets you “Check for Updates”. Selecting this will allow you to install any necessary updates and should fix your Bluetooth connection issues.

If these solutions are not successful, try rebooting the infotainment system. This option is also available on the System Updates page. Select “Reboot” and wait for the system to restart before attempting your connection again.

Dodge Journey Bluetooth not working – causes and how to fix it

Dodge Journey allows drivers and passengers to connect their smartphones, stream music, and make hands-free calls via Bluetooth. However, there are instances when the Bluetooth in Journey may encounter issues, leaving users frustrated and disconnected. In this article, we will explore common causes for car Bluetooth problems and provide practical solutions to get it up and running again.

Dodge Journey

Bluetooth, being one of the most popular wireless technologies, enables drivers to integrate their smartphones seamlessly with the car’s entertainment and communication systems. However, just like any technology, Bluetooth connections can encounter hiccups, leading to issues such as pairing failures, audio interruptions, and dropped connections. Understanding the underlying causes and knowing how to troubleshoot these problems is essential for a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

1. Bluetooth is disabled

Verify bluetooth is enabled in the smartphone.

Before delving into complex troubleshooting steps, it’s essential to start with the basics. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone or Android device. For most smartphones, you can access the Bluetooth settings through the quick settings menu or the main settings app. Turn on Bluetooth and keep your smartphone’s Bluetooth screen open as as you connect your phone to the infotainment system of Journey.

Verify Bluetooth is enabled in Journey

The next crucial step is to confirm that Bluetooth is enabled in the infotainment system of your Journey. Access the infotainment system’s settings and navigate to the Bluetooth or phone menu. Make sure it is turned on, and the infotainment system is actively searching for nearby devices.

2. Forget old pairings

If your smartphone has been connected to multiple Bluetooth devices in the past, it might be trying to connect to a previously paired device instead of your Journey infotainment system. To resolve this, go to your smartphone’s Bluetooth settings and look for any previously paired devices. Select “Forget” or “Unpair” for all the listed devices except your car’s infotainment system.

3. Restart Devices

Sometimes, Bluetooth connectivity issues can be resolved by a simple restart. Turn off both your smartphone and the infotainment system of your Journey. Wait for a few seconds and then turn them back on. This process can help clear any temporary glitches that might be affecting the Bluetooth connection.

4. Re-pair your phone

Re-pairing your phone with your Dodge Journey can be an effective solution for resolving persistent Bluetooth connectivity issues. Re-pairing essentially establishes a fresh connection between your smartphone and the car, which can help to clear any underlying glitches or conflicts.

Unpair the Existing Connection

Before re-pairing, you’ll need to remove the existing Bluetooth connection between your smartphone and Journey. This will ensure a clean slate for the re-pairing process.

Follow these general steps to unpair your phone:

  • Go to the Bluetooth settings on your smartphone.
  • Locate the list of paired devices and find the entry for your car’s infotainment system.
  • Tap on the “Forget,” “Unpair,” or “Remove” option next to your car’s entry to disconnect it.
  • Now re-connect your phone with the infotainment system via Bluetooth again.

5. Reset network settings

Resetting network settings on your smartphone is another troubleshooting step that can be beneficial in resolving Bluetooth connectivity issues with your Journey. This process resets all network-related settings, including Wi-Fi, cellular data, and Bluetooth configurations, to their default values. Here’s how you can reset network settings on both an iPhone and an Android device.

Reset Network Settings on iPhone:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and select “General.”
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Transfer or Reset iPhone.”
  • Tap “Reset” on next screen.
  • Choose “Reset Network Settings.”
  • You may be prompted to enter your device passcode.
  • Confirm the action by selecting “Reset Network Settings” again.
  • Your iPhone will restart, and the network settings will be reset to their default values.

Reset Network Settings on Android device:

Specific steps may vary slightly based on the Android version and manufacturer.

  • Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  • Depending on your device and Android version, look for either “System,” “System & updates,” “System & Reset,” or “General management.”
  • Select “Reset” or “Reset options.”
  • Choose “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.”
  • You may be asked to enter your device PIN or pattern.
  • Confirm the action by selecting “Reset settings.”
  • Your Android device will reset the network settings to their default state.

dodge journey 2010 bluetooth

After resetting the network settings on your smartphone, you will need to reconfigure some network-related settings, such as Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings. Make sure to pair your smartphone with the infotainment system of your Journey again and test the Bluetooth connectivity to see if the issue has been resolved.

Keep in mind that while resetting network settings can often fix connectivity issues, it may not always solve the problem, especially if the issue is hardware-related. If Bluetooth problems persist after trying this step, consider exploring other troubleshooting options.

6. Update Firmware and Software

Outdated firmware and software can lead to compatibility issues, resulting in Bluetooth problems. Check your car manufacturer’s website and your smartphone’s settings for available updates. Keeping both devices up-to-date can often resolve Bluetooth connectivity problems.

dodge journey 2010 bluetooth

To update iOS on an iPhone, first, ensure you have a stable internet connection, and then connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network. Next, go to “Settings” on your iPhone and tap on “General.” From there, select “Software Update.” Your iPhone will check for the latest iOS update available. If an update is found, tap “Download and Install.” If prompted, enter your passcode.

Make sure your iPhone has enough battery life or keep it plugged in during the update. Once the download is complete, tap “Install” to begin the update process. Your iPhone will restart, and after a short while, the new iOS version will be installed, giving you access to the latest features, improvements, and bug fixes.

7. Factory reset the infotainment system

Performing a factory reset on your Journey infotainment system can be a viable solution to resolve persistent and complex Bluetooth issues that are not resolved through other troubleshooting methods. A factory reset will restore the system to its original settings, potentially clearing any software-related problems that were affecting the Bluetooth functionality. However, it’s important to remember that a factory reset will erase all personalized settings and data, so it should be considered as a last resort after trying other troubleshooting steps.

8. Try any other phone

If you’re experiencing Bluetooth connectivity issues in your Dodge Journey, trying a different phone can be a valuable troubleshooting step to isolate the problem. By connecting a different phone, whether it’s an iPhone or an Android device, you can determine whether the issue lies with your original smartphone or if it’s related to the car’s infotainment system.

Once the pairing process is complete, test the Bluetooth connection with the other phone. Make a hands-free call, play music, and use other Bluetooth functionalities to see if everything works as expected. If the connection works flawlessly with the other phone, it suggests that the issue might be with your original smartphone.

9. Hard reset your Journey

Disconnecting the main 12 volt battery of your Journey for about 15 minutes is another potential solution to resolve certain issues, including Bluetooth connectivity problems in the car’s infotainment system. This process is known as a “hard reset” and can help to clear any temporary glitches or errors that might be affecting various electronic systems in the vehicle, including the infotainment system.

Identify the Negative Terminal

The negative terminal on the battery is marked with a minus (“-“) sign and is usually colored black. Take note of its location.

Disconnect the Negative Terminal

Use a wrench or pliers to loosen and remove the bolt or clamp that secures the negative terminal to the battery post. Once loosened, carefully lift the negative terminal away from the battery post.

dodge journey 2010 bluetooth

Wait for 15 Minutes

After disconnecting the negative terminal, leave the car’s battery disconnected for approximately 15 minutes. This will allow any residual electrical charge to dissipate and ensure a complete reset of the car’s electronic systems.

Reconnect the Negative Terminal

After the 15 minutes have elapsed, reattach the negative terminal to the battery post and tighten the bolt or clamp securely.

Start your Journey

With the battery reconnected, start the engine of your Journey and let it run for a few minutes. During this time, various electronic systems, including the infotainment system, will initialize and reestablish connections.

Test Bluetooth Connectivity

Once the car is running, test the Bluetooth connectivity by pairing your smartphone with the infotainment system of your Journey and using various Bluetooth features to ensure everything works correctly.

Remember that a hard reset by disconnecting the battery should be used as a last resort after trying other troubleshooting steps. While it can help in resolving certain issues, it may also result in the loss of some personalized settings in your Dodge Journey. If the Bluetooth problem persists or if you are unsure about performing a hard reset yourself, it’s best to seek assistance from a qualified mechanic or an authorized dealer to avoid any potential damage to the vehicle’s electrical system.

10. Hardware issue

If you have exhausted all software-related troubleshooting steps and Bluetooth connectivity issues persist with Journey, it is possible that the problem may be related to a hardware issue. Hardware problems can be more challenging to resolve and may require professional inspection and repair. Here are some indications that the issue might be hardware-related:

Persistent Issues

If you have experienced Bluetooth problems consistently, even after trying various software fixes and different smartphones, it could be a sign of a hardware problem.

Inconsistent Connectivity

If the Bluetooth connection frequently drops or becomes unstable, it may be due to hardware-related issues within the Journey infotainment system.

No Devices Detected

If the infotainment system in Journey is unable to detect any Bluetooth devices, including smartphones and other accessories, it might be an indication of hardware failure.

Audio Quality Issues

If you experience distorted or poor audio quality during Bluetooth calls or music playback, it could be due to hardware problems with the Bluetooth module or related components.

If you suspect a hardware issue, it’s best to contact your car’s manufacturer or authorized service center for further assistance. They have the expertise and tools to diagnose and repair hardware problems accurately. Depending on the vehicle’s warranty status and the nature of the issue, the manufacturer may cover the repair costs.

Before seeking professional help, you can also check for any software or firmware updates specific to your car’s infotainment system. Occasionally, manufacturers release updates to address known hardware-related issues, and updating the system might resolve the problem.

Bluetooth connectivity issues between your smartphone and the infotainment system of Dodge Journey can be frustrating, but they are usually easily resolved by following a few troubleshooting steps. Ensuring Bluetooth is enabled on both devices, pairing them correctly, and checking for updates are essential starting points. Restarting or resetting devices can also help establish a stable connection. Remember to stay patient and methodical when troubleshooting, as the solution is often just a few simple steps away.

Hello all, I have a 2010 Dodge Journey with the factory Uconnect system that includes the navigation. Is there a way to add Bluetooth music so I can play music through my phone?

One of those aftermarket FM bluetooth  transmitters that you plug into the accessory outlet will be the cheapest way to do that. Welcome to the forum.

phone holders

This is how to pair your iPhone or Android phone to a 2011 Dodge Journey. Generally, pairing a Bluetooth compatible phone to your car will allow you to make handsfree calls. In many models, you can also play music through a paired device over the Bluetooth connection too. Check your owners manual to see if this is possible in your 2011 Journey. Some models only allow Bluetooth devices to take calls wirelessly and do not support Bluetooth music. Typically, these cars will require an input jack to play music from your phone.

Do you have Bluetooth problems? Is Sync not working in your Journey? Or are you having Bluetooth issues? The steps needed to sync your phone to your car tend to vary substantially from one vehicle to the next. If you followed the steps in the video above and your a 2011 Journey will not connect to your phone, then you may need to delete some saved phones. Used cars will often have several saved phones in them. Once a maximum number has been reached, the Journey will not allow additional devices to be paired without deleting some first. If your 2011 Dodge Journey requires a password, try 1234, 0000 or ABCD.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

Random Russian guy

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

Never been to Moscow or Russia but my family has. Many great spots and a lot of culture. Your itinerary sounds fantastic and covers a lot despite it is only a short period of time.

What was their favourite thing about Russia?

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!

Perfect itinerary for spending a week in Moscow! So many places to visit and it looks like you had a wonderful time. I would love to climb that tower. The views I am sure must have been amazing!

I was lucky enough to see the skyline of Moscow from this TV Tower and it is definitely mind-blowing.

OMG I dream to visit Moscow someday! Hope the visa processing would be okay (and become more affordable) so I could pursue my dream trip!

Yup, visa processing is the major downside! Agree! Time and the money consuming process…
