Madrid’s first match in the Soccer Champions Tour 2024 will be against legendary Italian side, AC Milan . Stefano Pioli’s side have been a force to be reckoned with in recent seasons, having seen players such as Christian Pulisic take a huge leap forward and propel them to second in Serie A.

Madrid played against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in 2021 , where the two sides were held to a goalless draw in Austria. The game was David Alaba’s debut in the Madridista shirt. More recently, the two sides played in 2023, with the Spaniards coming away with a slim 3-2 win, thanks to a late Vinicius Jr goal.

Barcelona, 3 August, MetLife Stadium, New York

The second game to be played will be the big one. Barcelona and Real Madrid will play each other in a US El Clásico at the end of July in New York’s MetLife Stadium . The last time the world’s biggest fixture was brought stateside, it was a whitewash from the Catalans, who saw Dembelé, Fermín and Ferran scored to make it 3-0 in a game that saw Ancelotti’s side have a whopping 29 shots.

Real Madrid have plenty of recent history with Chelsea . They played back in the Champions League in the 21/22 season, with Los Blancos securing a memorable passage through to the semi-finals in extremis . Real Madrid have released their squad list for their preseason tour to the USA, ahead of their Wednesday flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

Carlo Ancelotti took just 25 players with him compared to the 32 headed with Barcelona on their tour, and included only one outfield youngster in his squad. Nico Paz, a talented midfielder of 18, was included in the squad to add to an already quality group in the middle of the pitch.

Outside of that, the main surprise was that Uruguayan youngster Alvaro Rodriguez did not make the cut. Making his debut last season and scoring in the Madrid derby, Ancelotti confirmed that he would promoted to the first team this summer. It appears he has tracked back on that decision, surprisingly leaving Rodriguez out.

Real Madrid have reportedly been working on a new 4-4-2 formation under Ancelotti this preseason, and the tour to the US will be the first opportunity to see how it functions. Their first fixture is against Milan on Sunday night local time, 04:00 CEST at the Rose Bowl.

Real Madrid landed in Los Angeles to kick off their pre-season tour of the United States , which will feature a 'Clasico' in Dallas against Barcelona .

The Spanish giants arrived after a 12-hour flight, not long after Barca , who also travelled on Wednesday to the City of Stars as part of their own pre-season tour.

"Los Angeles, we're HERE!", tweeted Madrid's official account at 3am on Thursday with a photo of Jude Bellingham arriving in Hollywood.

Several players like Vinicius Jr, Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and Rodrygo , who had extra days of holiday after representing their countries in international qualifiers and friendlies, did not fly with the team but will meet their team directly at their LA hotel .

Training in Los Angeles will begin on Thursday at UCLA , where Carlo Ancelotti's side trained last year.

Although they will be in Los Angeles at the same time, it will be difficult for Madrid and Barcelona to coincide in the Californian city as 'Los Blancos' have opted for the west (around Beverly Hills and Westwood), while the Catalans will stay in the centre (Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel) and will train at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (the stadium of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games).

With 25 players called up, Madrid will play their first friendly of this tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, against Milan .

The team will be in Los Angeles until Tuesday 25th . From there, they will travel to Houston to face Manchester United . They will then head to Dallas to take on the aforementioned 'Clasico' against Barcelona on Saturday 29th and, finally, they will face Juventus before returning to Spain.

The list of players traveling to the United States on Thursday night features the likes of superstars David Beckham (England), Ronaldo (Brazil), Raul (Spain), Figo (Portugal), Michael Owen (England) and Roberto Carlos (Brazil).

Real Madrid will be making its first appearance of the 2005-2006 season in the United States, in the debut of new acquisitions and Uruguayan internationals Carlos Diogo and Pablo Garcia. The Spanish giants will face Mexican power CD Guadalajara at Chicago's Soldier Field on Saturday, July 16 (5:30 p.m. CT / 6:30 p.m. ET) followed by its first ever match against an MLS team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, at The Home Depot Center on Monday, July 18 (7:30 p.m. PT / 10:30 p.m. ET). However, performances began to derail and back-to-back losses versus Barcelona and Juventus saw them conclude the tour with a bitter after-taste.

Despite mixed sensations towards the end, the pre-season served its purpose as the ideal groundwork for the forthcoming campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti managed to tinker with his newly assembled squad, with the coach bound to grasp a better idea of his team’s dynamics before the actual season starts.

Here are three takeaways from Los Blancos’ US pre-season tour.

1. Bellingham is ready for the big stage

Real Madrid’s latest acquisition, Jude Bellingham, enjoyed a blissful start to life with the Merengues . The midfielder was at the receiving end of a few tough losses but provided innumerable glimpses of his exceptional talent.

After an impressive debut versus AC Milan, Bellingham instantly stamped his name on the scoreboard against Manchester United in merely the sixth minute with an audacious chip from the edge of the box.

Apart from showcasing deadly final-third instincts, he played with excellent panache in every game he participated in. Simplicity is often the glory of expression, and Bellingham encapsulated that with his tender touches on the ball.

Against Juventus, he was not involved on the scoresheet but was at the heart of many offensive plays constructed by Madrid. In addition to playing as a connector between the lines, his duel winning was on display. The 20-year-old’s ball-carrying from deep and swiftness to evade pressure allowed Madrid to generate advantages from very little.

2. Real Madrid need a top No. 9

With the conclusion of the pre-season, it has become clearer than ever that Real Madrid are struggling to score goals in the absence of Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman, in most games, was cool as a cucumber recycling possession and provided a reliable presence in possession. Tchouameni even came close to scoring one of the goals of the pre-season against Barcelona, but ended up hitting the woodwork from range.

Real Madrid are the kings of the UEFA Champions League. Historically, no team in world football can boast of a similar record in the prestigious event.

In recent years, however, the men in white have been threatened repeatedly by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who have now built up a reputation as one of the favourites in the event.

Real Madrid face the defending champions in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie later today. Keeping their humiliating defeat to the same opposition in mind from last season, they will be motivated to go for the kill.

Defence: Tchouameni over Nacho

A debate at one point in the season, Carlo Ancelotti now has no doubts over whom to pick in goal. Andriy Lunin is expected to retain his starting spot for the UCL game, with Kepa Arrizabalaga starting on the bench.

Antonio Rudiger picks himself as one of the starting centre-backs on the night given his impeccable form and leadership, and it is likely that the manager pairs him alongside Aurelien Tchouameni to fortify against aerial threat.

He will be aided by two maestros in the middle of the park with Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde covering as the left and right interiors respectively.

While the former will be indispensable in maintaining possession and breaking defensive lines, the latter’s undying energy and relentless press will be crucial against Guardiola’s side.

Attack: The Golden trio

Carlo Ancelotti showered praise on Jude Bellingham in his pre-match press conference and it is clear that the youngster must play a big role on the night.

He will continue to start as Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder at the tip of the diamond on paper, although his role, in reality, will be much closer to that of a false 9.

The Brazilian duo of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo Goes are expected to form the pairing up top to complete the lineup. While the former will indeed drift towards the left, the latter will play more centrally or drift to the right.

Substitutes

Carlo Ancelotti will have a plethora of resources on the bench to count on against Manchester City. Of them, there are few names who pick themselves as undisputed presences off the bench.

Carlo Ancelotti has said he plans to trial a new formation during Real Madrid 's U.S. tour this month, as the coach looks to fit new arrivals like Jude Bellingham into the team ahead of the 2023-24 season.

A busy summer so far has seen midfielder Bellingham, forward Joselu , playmakers Arda Guler and Brahim Díaz and full-back Fran García join Madrid, while Karim Benzema , Marco Asensio , Eden Hazard and Mariano Díaz all departed as their contracts expired.

"When I started coaching I had a clear idea, and I didn't adapt to the players I had," Ancelotti told a news conference on Friday, when asked if he'd consider a change of system.

"I had an experience at Parma, where [Roberto] Baggio wanted to play as a playmaker and I didn't change the system. He went to another team. And I was wrong."

Madrid's summer business means the squad is currently overloaded in midfield, with at least seven players -- Bellingham, Toni Kroos , Luka Modric , Eduardo Camavinga , Aurélien Tchouaméni , Federico Valverde and Dani Ceballos -- all competing for places.

Ancelotti has tended to favour a 4-3-3 formation throughout his time at Madrid, but there has been speculation that Bellingham's signing could signal a switch to a midfield diamond.

"At Juventus , with [Zinedine] Zidane, I started to understand that it's better to adapt to the players," Ancelotti said. "Players have to feel comfortable. I adapted and I'm still adapting.

"This year we might play a different system. The system we have played with has been very successful, but we can try a new style. We're going to try it on the tour. It's a good time to do so."

The Italian praised the impact of Bellingham, 20, in preseason training so far, after his €103 million ($115.9m) signing from Borussia Dortmund .

"He's different to the other midfielders we have," Ancelotti said. "We are very happy that he's with us. He raises the level at Real Madrid. He works hard, he's doing well and he will play on the tour."

Madrid will kick off their involvement in the Soccer Champions Tour when facing AC Milan in Pasadena, California, on July 23 before playing Manchester United in Houston on July 26, Barcelona in Arlington, Texas, on July 29 and Juventus in Orlando, Florida, on Aug. 2.

Barca were crowned LaLiga champions last season, finishing 10 points clear of second-placed Madrid.

"It doesn't matter where [the Clasico with Barcelona] is played, there are no friendlies in a game like this," Ancelotti said. "It's always a special match.

"We saw it last year in a fantastic atmosphere and I'm sure we'll see it this year in Dallas... There are no friendlies between Real Madrid and Barcelona and there never will be."

A tour of the United States has been Madrid's preferred preseason itinerary in recent years. Ancelotti praised the "fantastic" facilities at the University of California, Los Angeles, where Madrid will begin training next week.

"Football in the U.S. has to compete with very popular sports," he said. "The signing of [Lionel] Messi by Inter Miami could help its standing... I have a bad memory of the Rose Bowl [where Madrid will play Milan] because I lost the 1994 World Cup final against Brazil there. I'm sure there will be a good atmosphere."

Real Madrid have published their squad list for Tuesday’s home match against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals.

REAL MADRID SQUAD:

Goalkeepers: Lunin, Kepa and Fran.

Defenders: Carvajal, Militão, Nacho, Lucas Vázquez, Fran García, Rüdiger and Mendy.

Midfielders: Bellingham, Kroos, Modrić, Camavinga, Valverde, Tchouameni, Ceballos and Arda Güler.

Forwards: Vini Jr., Rodrygo, Joselu and Brahim.

No surprises on Real Madrid’s squad list, with Vinicius back after missing the last Liga game against Athletic Bilbao. Vinicius, Bellingham, Camavinga and Tchouameni will miss the return leg if they get booked tomorrow.

Real Madrid XI vs Man City: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Champions League today

Real Madrid name a strong team as expected for today’s Champions League clash with Man City .

Only long-term absentees Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba have been ruled out for Los Blancos, who named their matchday squad on Monday.

Brazilian defender Eder Militao has been included, having made his comeback from injury as a substitute in the LaLiga win over Athletic Club at the end of last month.

Real were able to rest over the weekend with the Copa del Rey final taking centre stage in Spain and Militao’s inclusion is the big selection decision for Carlo Ancelotti.

The Madrid coach was tight-lipped on his starting line-up during his press conference for the quarter-final first leg in the Spanish capital .

Nacho Fernandez is the one to drop out of the XI should Militao start.

Vinicius Jr will return to the Real team having been suspended for the Athletic match. The forward, along with Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are one booking away from a one-game ban in the Champions League.

Is soccer’s model club actually … real madrid.

The club is strutting into a future different from the one envisioned by its president, Florentino Pérez. But its prospects are as bright as ever.

Florentino Pérez had a contented smile on his face, and with good reason. He had just watched Spain and Brazil share a thrilling, freewheeling draw at the stadium he has expensively, lavishly, reappointed. Now, Pérez, Real Madrid’s all-powerful president, found himself in a whitewashed tunnel, presented — completely by chance, obviously — with his favorite kind of photo opportunity.

To one side stood Vinícius Júnior, Real Madrid’s standard-bearer and main event, dutifully introducing the man who pays his wages to his Brazil teammates. A little further along the corridor, hurrying to pay obeisance, was Rodrygo, another of Pérez’s employees.

But Pérez’s focus was on Endrick, the 17-year-old star-in-waiting who will complete his long-awaited move to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer. To say the two of them shared a conversation would be pushing it: In footage of their brief meeting , Endrick does not appear to speak. After a handshake, Pérez utters only one line, but it is perfect. “We’re waiting for you here,” he said.

Real Madrid has had Endrick lined up for some time: The club announced that it had reached an agreement to sign him from Palmeiras three days before the final of the 2022 World Cup. He would, as FIFA’s rules dictate, remain in Brazil, with the club that has sculpted him into the most coveted prospect in world soccer, until he turns 18 this July.

That kind of long-term planning feels just a little out of step with Real Madrid’s traditional modus operandi. The club identifies, correctly, as a titan, and — under Pérez’s stewardship, in particular — it has taken great pride in living the values associated with the classical definition of that term: impetuous, impulsive, irascible.

It fires coaches for failing to win the Champions League , signs players on the back of a stellar World Cup and airs a regular feature on its in-house television channel that has been interpreted as a pre-emptive attempt to influence and/or intimidate referees. Real Madrid has always been the sort of place that eats its own sons .

All of that remains hard-wired into the club’s fibers. In the past three years, Pérez has not only helped to concoct a Super League that was intended to reshape world soccer more to his liking, but defended it on a gaudy late-night talk show — a little like going on “Judge Judy” to announce the abolition of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council — and then continued to promote it even after it was savaged by, well, just about everyone else.

But there is little question that there is something different about the current incarnation of Real Madrid. The club has always regarded itself as being the biggest, most powerful, most glamorous, most famous team not just in soccer, but in sports as a whole. Now, it is possible to make the case that it should be regarded as the best run, too.

Its mildly absurd record in the Champions League bears that out. In the last decade, it has won the tournament the club cherishes most five times. Should Carlo Ancelotti’s team fall to Manchester City over the next two weeks, it would mark only the third time since 2010 that Real Madrid has not reached at least the semifinals of Europe’s showpiece competition.

A better gauge, though, is what will happen this summer. As well as Endrick, already anointed as the finest player of soccer’s new generation, Real Madrid is expected (at last) to sign Kylian Mbappé, the standout of the current one. They should be joined, too, by Alphonso Davies, the Bayern Munich and Canada left back.

All three deals showcase how adroitly Real Madrid now navigates the transfer market. Endrick is another special from Juni Calafat, the club’s recruitment chief, who has long been tasked with bringing the brightest prospects from around the world — and from South America in particular — to Madrid.

Mbappé has been a case study in patience, with Real Madrid by turns seducing the player and biding its time, slowly and carefully positioning itself as his only realistic route out of Paris St.-Germain, waiting until the economic conditions were right to sign a player currently employed by a club that is in effect an arm of a nation state.

Davies, too, is a masterpiece of patience: Real Madrid will present Bayern Munich with the choice of losing him for a fee this summer, or for nothing when his contract expires in 2025. Bayern will resent it, of course. But it is familiar enough with that sort of strong-arm method that it might, privately, applaud just a little, too.

It would not be the first club to admire — however begrudgingly — how well Real Madrid has adapted to a financial landscape that, as the Super League project demonstrated, seemed to have shifted against Europe’s old aristocrats.

Real Madrid does not have the money, for example, to bully Premier League teams into selling players, and so instead it signed Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea on a free transfer. It retains an impressively productive academy — according to the analysis firm CIES, 97 of its graduates are playing professionally in Europe — but has also moved quickly to gobble up players like Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham and Aurelién Tchouaméni before they fall into English clutches.

The result is a club that, almost alone among the grand old teams of the continent, can look to the future with relish. Barcelona has mortgaged many tomorrows to pay for the sins of yesterday. Bayern Munich is about to hire its fourth coach in three years. Juventus is still reeling from the mass resignation of its board in 2022 amid allegations of fraudulent accounting.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, should next season be able to name a midfield of Camavinga, Tchouaméni and Bellingham, and a forward line of Rodrygo, Vinícius and Endrick. Quite where Federico Valverde fits in is anyone’s guess. It certainly does not feel like the club’s destiny rests on whatever Mbappé decides to do.

It may, in many ways, remain an old-fashioned club, run as a personal fief by an omnipotent president. It does not pretend to be as data-driven, as avowedly modern, as Manchester City or Liverpool or Brighton, and it most definitely does not, at any point, feel any need whatsoever to tell anyone how clever it is.

But it is difficult to escape the impression that of all the game’s traditional elite, Real Madrid is now the one that needs a Super League the least. It is true that this is not the reality Florentino Pérez hoped to occupy in the spring of 2024. He wanted it to change, irrevocably, to suit his club. The converse, though, seems to have worked just as well. He has his modern stadium. He has his cluster of stars. The world remains, as it always was, much to Real Madrid’s liking.

Emma Hayes and the Last Word

The end, for Emma Hayes, is in sight. Next weekend, her Chelsea team will take on Manchester United in the semifinal of the F.A. Cup. A few days later, it has a Champions League semifinal with Barcelona to contemplate. There are five games left in England’s Women’s Super League; if Chelsea wins them all, Hayes may depart for her new job, as coach of the United States, with a valedictory championship.

One, two or three of those trophies would be a fitting way for Hayes, the W.S.L.’s greatest-ever coach, to wave goodbye to a league she has done much to build. Over the last few weeks, though, the 47-year-old Hayes’s farewell tour has taken on a decidedly, but unexpectedly, contentious aspect.

First, she suggested that — from a coaching point of view — it might be less than ideal for teammates to be romantic partners. She quickly rowed back from those comments after it appeared they had stoked resentment both inside and outside her squad.

Then, last week, she shoved Jonas Eidevall , her Arsenal counterpart, and then accused him of exhibiting “ male aggression ” in confronting a Chelsea player during the Blues’ defeat in the Women’s League Cup final. There, a retraction — or even a clarification — seems less forthcoming, something that may be explained by the fact that Hayes is not the first coach to find Eidevall’s touchline demeanor a little abrasive.

Hayes is habitually frank. She is eloquent and unafraid in equal measure. That is, in part, what has allowed her to develop a profile beyond women’s soccer. In these past few weeks, though, she has exhibited an openness that borders on straight-shooting. The overriding impression is that she does not want to leave England without setting a few things straight.

If We’re Taking Ideas From America

Curious to note, this week, that the idea of a luxury tax is being floated by certain Premier League teams as a more palatable alternative to all these infernal points deductions. Well, that is how it is being dressed up, anyway: What is actually happening is that some of the league’s clubs are trying to find a method, effectively, to abolish financial regulation.

This is an increasingly popular stance, because the Premier League has allowed the idea that cost controls are in some way “unfair” to fester. It is, though, a disingenuous one.

Those clubs who want to allow the market to run riot do not want to level the playing field. They want, instead, to take one unpopular elite and replace it with another. The primary difference, of course, would be that this new one includes and favors them. Nobody is thinking in the slightest about collective fairness.

Still, the idea is out there, so let’s debunk it. A luxury tax has benefits in American sports. It would not work in England, partly because there is no salary cap, and partly because some of the teams are owned by nation states, making the idea of a financial penalty pretty laughable. They would pay it and go on their merry way, driving other clubs to the wall as they do.

If you want a truly “fair” Premier League, you need more financial regulation, not less. And, as discussed a little while ago, if you are to take inspiration from the U.S., the best place to start would be with a commissioner, complete with both office and powers, who can enforce those rules in real time.

The Real Madrid youngsters looking to leave (and why it’s no surprise)

“When you are not doing well economically, you have to take people from below, it’s logical. In the end, (last summer) Real Madrid had a shot at Jude (Bellingham), one of the best in the world, and we had to buy him. That closes the door on Sergio Arribas .”

These were the words of the Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal in a recent interview on Spanish radio. Carvajal had been asked about Barcelona ’s latest bright young talents, with Lamine Yamal , 16, and Pau Cubarsi , 17, both involved in the latest Spain squad alongside him.

While Barcelona’s youth academy is set up with the specific ambition of forming players for the first team — shaped as they are towards Barca’s style of play — Madrid’s focus is different. It’s reflected in their nicknames, too.

If ‘La Masia’ (often translated as ‘farmhouse’ but best described as a rural dwelling particular to the east of Spain) paints a portrait of family ties, ‘La Fabrica’ (The Factory) has connotations of industrialised efficiency.

The football education Madrid’s youngsters receive is — as described by those who work at the academy — more oriented towards versatility, resilience and being able to adjust to several different tactical styles. The goal is to train youngsters capable of making it in the professional game and more often than not, that means them playing away from Madrid.

In a November 2023 study by the International Centre for Sports Studies, Real Madrid were found to be the club that had produced the greatest number of active players in Europe’s top five leagues, with 44.

Arribas, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder referenced by Carvajal, is one of them. He was highly rated at Madrid but was sold to Almeria in August — though Los Blancos have a 50 per cent sell-on clause and right of first refusal to buy him back.

Nacho , now 34, is the only member of the Madrid squad to have come through directly from the club’s academy. Federico Valverde , Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo each spent some time with Real Madrid Castilla — the club’s reserve side made up of youth players — but they cannot be considered youth academy products as such.

Lucas Vazquez , Fran Garcia and Joselu are other homegrown players. The difference is they all ended up in the first team via a different path — what has become known as the Carvajal route (via Carvajal).

This essentially involves leaving the club in the hope of later returning — just as the long-time right-back did when Madrid re-signed him from Bayer Leverkusen on a €6.5million (£5.6m; $7m) buy-back clause in 2013. Since then, Carvajal has made 407 appearances and lifted 23 trophies.

When Madrid sell a youth player, they almost always push for favourable terms that give them a future option on repurchasing them, as with with Arribas. But big competition for first-team spots and the club’s commitment to signing the best young foreign stars have only reinforced the pressures that make achieving what Nacho did all the more difficult today.

For some time now, agents, family members and even youth-team coaches at Valdebebas have reflected on the situation that has come to dominate reality at La Fabrica: the main objective is to become professionals because only a very, very small percentage of players make it to the Madrid squad.

That understanding is deeply ingrained in the way Real Madrid’s youngsters see their own careers progressing, too. They all dream of making it to the first team — but many are aware that it remains a tough thing to achieve and several of La Fabrica’s brightest prospects are already considering their futures as the 2023-24 season approaches its final stages.

Mario Martin

The Real Madrid Castilla captain, 20, is well-liked by his manager Raul (the legendary former club striker) but also first-team boss Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian has mentioned to those closest to him that he sees the defensive midfielder as being ready to play in the elite. Ancelotti gave Martin his senior debut in the final stages of an extra-time Copa del Rey win against Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

Martin stands out for his reading of the game, his calmness with the ball and his ability to combine with others. Sources at Valdebebas consider him to be one of the Castilla players who should make the jump to La Liga next season. However, his future at Madrid is unclear.

Martin has a contract until 2026 and there are plans for him to take part in the US tour during pre-season, but competition for a place in Ancelotti’s midfield is so fierce that an opportunity might better be found elsewhere. The Spanish player recently changed agency, joining Best of You, and clubs including Girona have been tracking him for months.

According to those who know him, although his dream is to play for Real his situation might also be closely informed by whether Luka Modric stays on for another year and whether Dani Ceballos remains at the club. Ceballos, 27, has only made four starts for Madrid this season.

But, in general, Madrid prefer it if players spend at least three years with Castilla and Martin is in his second season with the side.

Manuel Angel

Another key player in Raul’s Castilla — who have struggled in Spain’s third tier this season (they are 13th) despite making the promotion play-offs last term — is Manuel Angel.

The 20-year-old has also been playing for Madrid’s UEFA Youth League side under Alvaro Arbeloa. He joined La Fabrica in 2018 from Sevilla ’s youth academy and his contract expires in 2025.

‘Mami’, as he’s affectionately known, is a midfielder with a very slight frame, which he more than makes up for with clever positioning, grit and exquisite control. His character has earned him the affection and admiration of all the coaches who have worked with him at Madrid, but he has seen little sight of the first team, only taking part in a handful of training sessions.

For this reason, his representatives plan to talk to the club at the end of the season to see what role they offer the player in the future.

At the moment, Manuel Angel is enjoying his first season in Castilla and wants to listen to the club first, but other destinations are not ruled out.

Rafa Obrador

Obrador is a left-back who stands out for his attacking skill— who, unlike other talents from La Fabrica, would not suffer from increased physical demands at the elite level. He is seen as another who could make the step up to La Liga next season, but his contract with Madrid ends this summer and his future looks uncertain.

The 20-year-old has had a less active role in Raul’s Castilla side over recent months, but sources close to the player — speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships — say this is “something normal in football” and they still contemplate a renewal, a loan away or a permanent move with Madrid retaining re-purchasing rights.

But with Madrid looking at the possible arrival of Alphonso Davies (and with Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez also being watched — another academy graduate), a place in the first team seems almost impossible, for now.

Real reach verbal agreement with Davies over move from Bayern

This 16-year-old attacking midfielder has been playing two levels above his age group, such is his technical talent and self-confidence. Last week, he featured with Real Madrid C, who play in Spain’s fifth tier, two below Castilla.

Iago has regularly been called up to Spain’s youth teams and last summer renewed his Madrid contract until 2025 after a period of uncertainty and doubts about his future. But now, according to sources close to the player, he is unhappy. He feels that he has not been offered a project that enables him to grow and is exploring what is the best resolution.

Although his agency is Gestifute, the company of super agent Jorge Mendes, those close to him still do not want to talk about other proposals because there is more than a year left until the end of his contract and they want to resolve the situation first with Madrid.

“It’s still early,” remark those who know him, but the player seems frustrated and proof of this was in the Instagram message he posted last week: “I love and want soccer, but I hate the falsehood, lies and deceit of the world that surrounds it.”
