Volkswagen Cars w/ Adaptive Cruise Control (All 11 Models)

Adaptive cruise control has been available mostly in luxury vehicles but is now common in many mainstream cars, including Volkswagens.

The Volkswagen cars, SUVs, and EVs in this post have adaptive cruise control or conventional cruise control system.

Check the corresponding tables to see the relevant model years when the system became available.

volkswagen

Adaptive Cruise Control vs. Cruise Control

The more-basic cruise control in older Volkswagen cars helps the vehicle maintain a steady cruising speed.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) enhances the conventional cruise control system by adjusting the car’s speed to match the vehicle ahead, slowing or accelerating to the set speed when appropriate.

Newer Volkswagens have the IQ Drive technology that automatically maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, with the ability to brake on its own to avoid a potential collision.

Rival mainstream car makers that produce popular models with adaptive cruise control (ACC) include:

  • Toyota vehicles with ACC .
  • Kia vehicles with ACC .
  • Honda vehicles with ACC .
  • Hyundai vehicles with ACC .
  • Nissan vehicles with ACC .
  • Ford vehicles with ACC .

Volkswagen Cars with Adaptive Cruise Control

#1 volkswagen golf.

Although it’s no longer in production after 2021, the Golf hatchback remains a compelling purchase as a used car, with its excellent ride quality and versatile body – even the more-powerful Golf R is a competent daily driver .

All Volkswagen Golf models from 2003 to 2021 had standard cruise control that enabled a steady highway cruising speed.

Only in 2002 when the system first became available was cruise control not available at all trim levels.

#2 Volkswagen Polo

Although the VW Polo isn’t available on American shores, it’s a popular little car sold globally in Europe and many other countries.

Except for the latest generation that debuted in 2022, Volkwagen Polos from 2009 to 2021 had cruise control in the pricier variants, and all pre-2009 models only had the system as an optional add-on.

#3 Volkswagen Beetle

The discontinued Volkswagen Beetle had cruise control as a standard provision from 2012 to 2019.

#4 Volkswagen Jetta

In a class with all-stars like Honda Civic , Toyota Corolla , Hyundai Elantra , and Kia Forte – all with adaptive cruise control – the VW Jetta seems somewhat mediocre.

Still, from 2019 onwards, Volkswagen Jettas have had adaptive cruise control (ACC) in their higher trims and the more-basic cruise control in the lower ones.

Cruise control is standard across all Volkswagen Jettas from 2003 to 2018, with the 2001 and 2002 models only having the system in the more-expensive trims.

#5 Volkswagen Passat

2021 and 2022 Volkswagen Passat sedans have standard adaptive cruise control, while models from 2016 to 2020 only had the system in the higher trims.

Cruise control is standard across all Volkswagen Passat from 2001 to 2015, and older models before that period do not have the cruise management system.

2022 marks this midsize car’s final model year stateside.

#6 Volkswagen Arteon

This 2019 debutant is a unique large hatchback with sleek styling and sporty handling.

All Volkswagen Arteon models have at least the basic cruise control system, with the higher trims carrying the more-sophisticated adaptive cruise control (ACC) before ACC became standard from 2022 onwards.

Volkswagen SUVs with Adaptive Cruise Control

#7 volkswagen taos.

Since its introduction in 2022, the Volkswagen Taos subcompact SUV has had adaptive cruise control in the upper trims and cruise control in the lower ones.

#8 Volkswagen Tiguan

This model stands out among small SUVs with its three rows of seats.

Volkswagen Tiguans from 2018 onwards have had adaptive cruise control or cruise control, depending on the trim level.

All VW Tiguan models from 2009 to 2017 had standard cruise control.

#9 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

This SUV is a two-row version of the VW Atlas.

Since its 2020 debut, the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has had adaptive cruise control in the upper trims and conventional cruise control in the lower ones.

#10 Volkswagen Atlas

This SUV is a three-row midsize, seating up to seven.

Like the two-row variant, the Volkswagen Atlas with an extra row of seats has cruise control in the base trim and the more sophisticated adaptive cruise control in the costlier ones.

Volkswagen Electric Vehicle with Adaptive Cruise Control

#11 volkswagen id.4.

As the German marque’s pioneering electric SUV, Volkswagen ID.4 models have adaptive cruise control with lane centering across all trim levels.

hey @physh thanks for the troubleshooting guide. Unfortunately it didn't solve my issue. I even tried the VCDS recalibration procedure, standing in front of a vertical wall, but also this fix didn't work: the alert went out, but the radar doesn't detect traffic well, so it is kinda dangerous to use it. Any other ideas?

@pibe81 is it a Golf mk7.5? What happens when you unplug the sensor?

Hi @physh , yes I do have a mk7.5. Unplugging and cleaning the sensor and then putting it back in didn't solve the issue. If you mean "what happens when I unplug the sensor and turn on the vehicle?", I get a bunch of alerts from the car, and I can see error logs in VCDS from more than 6 different modules. However I finally solved the issue: 1) I redid the calibration by putting the car in front of a perfectly vertical metal surface. 3) I believe the key was that I positioned the surface exactly 120cm in front of the sensor (measured with laser meter) and perpendicular to the car, both horizontally and vertically (also checked via laser meter). 4) drove a few miles: initially the detection of vehicles didn't work so promptly (could see them only when <10m ahead), but after a while it started detecting vehicles also when >50m ahead.

All great tips! I had this happen just recently on my 2019 / MK7 Jetta SEL P . I get a lot of car washes due to the daily drive I have 25 miles outside of town, but since I park inside my garage, I never actually look at the front of the car. I went to pop off the emblem to look at the radar sensor, to disconnect it and clean both sides of the connection with contact cleaner, and noticed that all of the chrome on the VW lettering on the emblem, had been stripped off, likely due to hundreds of car washes over the years. Part of me thought, no, it can't be that simple. I ordered a new OEM emblem from an eBay etailer, replaced it, and problem solved! ACC now works as it should, not more "Front assist: no sensor view" error!

Going to try this. I have a 2018 7.5R and have experienced this fault twice. First time was due to me removing the grille and it popped up on the drive right after putting everything back together. I tried to clear faults in OBD11 but no success, it kept popping straight back up. Even tried driving around to see if it fixed itself but nothing. I ended up taking it to VW and I don't think they did a re-calibration as I was charged 1hr labor. They mentioned a reset and it was gone... Few months later to now, I had the front repainted by bodyshop and after 80 miles~ now it's come back randomly with the same code and dash messages. Going to try follow this to see if I can resolve. I don't drive the car that much and think the full calibration cost is outrageous so hopefully can get rid of this. Otherwise, removing the front end anytime and having this problem each time is crazy $$$. Wish they kept the 7R ACC location to void these problems...

The specified fuel consumption and emission data are determined in accordance with the measurement procedures prescribed by law. 1 January 2022, the WLTP test cycle completely replaced the NEDC test cycle and therefore no NEDC values are available for new type approved vehicles after that date.

This information does not refer to a single vehicle and is not part of the offer but is only intended for comparison between different types of vehicles. Additional equipment and accessories (additional components, tyre formats, etc.) can alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, affecting the vehicle's fuel consumption, power consumption, CO 2 emissions and driving performance values in addition to weather and traffic conditions and individual driving behavior.

Due to more realistic testing conditions, fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions measured according to WLTP will in many cases be higher than the values measured according to NEDC. As a result, the taxation of vehicles may change accordingly as of 1 September 2018. For further information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC, please visit www.volkswagen.de/wltp .

Further information on official fuel consumption data and official specific CO 2 emissions for new passenger cars can be found in the "Guide to fuel economy, CO 2 emissions and power consumption for new passenger car models", which is available free of charge from all sales dealerships and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, D-73760 Ostfildern, Germany and at www.dat.de/co2 .

Veteran member.

I hate that my cruise changes speed in 5 mph increments when using the + and - . Is there a way to change the increase and decrease faults in vcds?

I found my answer.... http://https://forums-vwvortex-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&7029533-Cruise-control-in-5mph-increments&amp=1&usqp=mq331AQECAFYAQ%3D%3D#aoh=15432946287499&csi=1&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.vwvortex.com%2Fshowthread.php%3F7029533-Cruise-control-in-5mph-increments

odd, our Alltrack has the cruise on the steering wheel that adjust 1mph via the +/- button from the factory.

Adaptive cruise control? Or normal?

normal, i couldn't be sold on flaky technology just quite yet.

So, on the 2016-->, then, is there a way to increment the speed by 5mph (or 10km/h for us Canadians)? I probably make more use of the +1/-1 than the larger increment, but having both is nice.

2015 vw passat adaptive cruise control

It's not your CCM.

Ha ha ha ha yeah kind of figured it wasn't my CCM at this point. The problem is I have no idea what the problem is now. I'm guessing something is not grounded properly. Except I have no idea where that would be.

People use CCM to refer to Comfort Control Module, and for these earlier B5's, the Cruise Control Module. That's over the glove box, which you have to remove to get the module out. Your 7 volts, if measured at the stalk connector, implies that there is a 5 volt drop somewhere. You don't have LED brake light bulbs, do you? The cruise module has a ground though the brake bulb filaments, which is why the brake light switch has to be good too.

There are some errors in the b5 information base - how to troubleshoot cruise control, I informed moderators of this years ago, and provided them with a modified copy as below. DBC Cruise Control Troubleshooting (Modified) https://www.dropbox.com/s/te9di290nk4ulug/DIY DBC Cruise Control Troubleshooting.docx NOTE: The Cruise Control pin 11 test, should be at 0V and go to 12V when clutch or brake is pressed. You are getting the wrong voltage because something is disconnected. All voltage measurements must be done with everything connected.

2015 vw passat adaptive cruise control

This is a known issue, especially with the B5 version Passat's, and whatever versions of early model platforms of Jetta's, Rabbit's, Golf's and other's were. Here is a link to ebay. This guy has 100% positive feedback. Audi Cruise Control Unit Repair Service Module 4D0907305 5GA004397 16 4B0907305 | eBay This where I got my replacement module from. My car works flawlessly now with the new (1 year old now) module installed. It was always hit or miss and then at the end it never worked with the old module. Relatively easy to replace. The module is mounted behind the glove compartment right under the passenger side dash airbag unit. This guy operates by sending you a rebuilt module and then you send yours back to him. It's not 100% of the time the module is the problem, but more times than not, it is. Unless someone's been under the dash messing around I'd be willing to bet the module is the culprit. Again it is a known issue and the early ones were very problematic.

yodarocks4 said: And when I ran the diagnostic test for the cruise control module my ABS module was NOT connected bc I took it out to send it in to be repaired Click to expand...

Having the ABS Module disconnected wouldn't affect those voltages. Pin 5 should be connected to ground, when you did the tests it was NOT. I suggest you get a wiring diagram and check the wiring.

Ok...so this may be a dumb question...but would my horn not working have anything to do with my Cruise control slot 5 not being grounded?

He was doing voltage checks, not using VCDS.

Lol see I knew it was a dumb question

So I took a chance and sent my cruise control module in for repair and it still won't work. I have no idea how to find where the grounding problem is. All the wires that connect to the cruise control module up behind the glove box all disappear up in the dash somewhere.

You have not posted anything that would indicate a grounding problem or faulty module. The link in post #5 indicates what the wires connect to. Do the tests in the DIY, everything must be connected, and the body of the CC module must be connected to ground. Start by checking pin 11.

My Passat is from EU (in Germany was first owner). I will try coding for manual gear tomorrow and I tell you what happenned. Do you know what means ,,Follow to stop adaptation (activate/ deactivate)'' because on my car, this adaptation don't work?

Follow to stop is automaticaly braking to full stop, but this option support only radar RDW A. Radar RDW 1 not support front assist (channel 8 adaptation) and follow to stop (channel 9 adaptation), it doesn't have this channels in adaptation. My radar support follow to stop option, but my engine ECU not support this option. I know this option used in touareg and phaeton.

And your ABS 025 revision is backward compatible (is compatible with your 3C0-937-049).

May be, but ACC doesn't work. From 2009 year passat used ABS revision 025 (in ETKA i learn, revision 020 not compatible to replace by revision 025), new revision of radar, cental electric unit, gateway and parking brake unit. Now i have ABS revision 026, radar *567K and old other parts, such as central electric unit, instrument cluster and parking brake unit. May be needed special initialization process online from VW server.

I don’t understand, when your MFD show error message ,,ACC unavailable’’ why you don’t have any fault on VCDS (or VAS5954)?

I don't know.

When MFD show me "ACC Fault!" i have faults in engine and radar ECU. When MFD show me "ACC Not Available" no faults.

I think i have parking brake unit is incompatible with my new ABS. Because ABS unit revision 025 or newer used parking brake unt 3C8***. I have unit with number 3C0***J, this unit being used only in 2008. Parking brake unit, ABS unit and radar produced by TRW. May be i have internal incompatibility between units.

In my opinion, if your parking brake is incompatible with ABS module you must have a fault code. But, because parking brake is easy to replace, you can try the module from your friend car and is not necessary to buy this module until you are not sure about that.

Le Corbusier’s triumphant return to Moscow

The largest Le Corbusier exhibition in a quarter of a century celebrates the modernist architect’s life and his connection with the city.

Given his affinity with Moscow, it is perhaps surprising that the city had never hosted a major examination of Le Corbusier’s work until now. However, the Pushkin Museum and the Le Corbusier Fund have redressed that discrepancy with the comprehensive exhibition “Secrets of Creation: Between Art and Architecture,” which runs until November 18.

Presenting over 400 exhibits, the exhibition charts Le Corbusier’s development from the young man eagerly sketching buildings on a trip around Europe, to his later years as a prolific and influential architect.

The exhibition brings together the different facets of his talent, showing his publications, artwork and furniture design alongside photographs, models and blueprints of his buildings.

Irina Antonova, director of the Pushkin Museum, said, “It was important for us to also exhibit his art. People know Le Corbusier the architect, but what is less well know is that he was also an artist. Seeing his art and architecture together gives us an insight into his mind and his thought-processes.”

What becomes obvious to visitors of the exhibition is that Le Corbusier was a man driven by a single-minded vision of how form and lines should interact, a vision he was able to express across multiple genres.

The upper wings of the Pushkin Museum are separated by the central stairs and two long balconies. The organizers have exploited this space, allowing comparison of Le Corbusier’s different art forms. On one side there are large paintings in the Purist style he adapted from Cubism, while on the other wall there are panoramic photographs of his famous buildings.

Le Corbusier was a theorist, producing many pamphlets and manifestos which outlined his view that rigorous urban planning could make society more productive and raise the average standard of living.

It was his affinity with constructivism, and its accompanying vision of the way architecture could shape society, which drew him to visit the Soviet Union, where, as he saw it, there existed a “nation that is being organized in accordance with its new spirit.”

The exhibition’s curator Jean-Louis Cohen explains that Le Corbusier saw Moscow as “somewhere he could experiment.” Indeed, when the architect was commissioned to construct the famous Tsentrosoyuz Building, he responded by producing a plan for the entire city, based on his concept of geometric symmetry.

Falling foul of the political climate

He had misread the Soviet appetite for experimentation, and as Cohen relates in his book Le Corbusier, 1887-1965, drew stinging attacks from the likes of El Lissitsky, who called his design “a city on paper, extraneous to living nature, located in a desert through which not even a river must be allowed to pass (since a curve would contradict the style).”

Not to be deterred, Le Corbusier returned to Moscow in 1932 and entered the famous Palace of the Soviets competition, a skyscraper that was planned to be the tallest building in the world.

This time he fell foul of the changing political climate, as Stalin’s growing suspicion of the avant-garde led to the endorsement of neo-classical designs for the construction, which was ultimately never built due to the Second World War.

Situated opposite the proposed site for the Palace of the Soviets, the exhibition offers a tantalizing vision of what might have been, presenting scale models alongside Le Corbusier’s plans, and generating the feeling of an un-built masterpiece.

Despite Le Corbusier’s fluctuating fortunes in Soviet society, there was one architect who never wavered in his support . Constructivist luminary Alexander Vesnin declared that the Tsentrosoyuz building was the "the best building to arise in Moscow for over a century.”

The exhibition sheds light on their professional and personal relationship, showing sketches and letters they exchanged. In a radical break from the abstract nature of most of Le Corbusier’s art, this corner of the exhibition highlights the sometimes volatile architect’s softer side, as shown through nude sketches and classical still-life paintings he sent to Vesnin.

“He was a complex person” says Cohen. “It’s important to show his difficult elements; his connections with the USSR, with Mussolini. Now that relations between Russia and the West have improved, we can examine this. At the moment there is a new season in Le Corbusier interpretation.” To this end, the exhibition includes articles that have never previously been published in Russia, as well as Le Corbusier’s own literature.

Completing Le Corbusier’s triumphant return to Russia is a preview of a forthcoming statue, to be erected outside the Tsentrosoyuz building. Even if she couldn’t quite accept his vision of a planned city, Moscow is certainly welcoming him back.

Ch. 9 The Development of Russia

Ivan i and the rise of moscow, learning objective.

  • Outline the key points that helped Moscow become so powerful and how Ivan I accomplished these major victories
  • Moscow was considered a small trading outpost under the principality of Vladimir-Suzdal into the 13th century.
  • Power struggles and constant raids under the Mongol Empire’s Golden Horde caused once powerful cities, such as Kiev, to struggle financially and culturally.
  • Ivan I utilized the relative calm and safety of the northern city of Moscow to entice a larger population and wealth to move there.
  • Alliances between Golden Horde leaders and Ivan I saved Moscow from many of the raids and destruction of other centers, like Tver.

A rival city to Moscow that eventually lost favor under the Golden Horde.

Grand Prince of Vladimir

The title given to the ruler of this northern province, where Moscow was situated.

The Rise of Moscow

Moscow was only a small trading outpost in the principality of Vladimir-Suzdal in Kievan Rus’ before the invasion of Mongol forces during the 13th century. However, due to the unstable environment of the Golden Horde, and the deft leadership of Ivan I at a critical time during the 13th century, Moscow became a safe haven of prosperity during his reign. It also became the new seat of power of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Ivan I (also known as Ivan Kalita) was born around 1288 to the Prince of Moscow, Daniil Aleksandrovich. He was born during a time of devastation and upheaval in Rus’. Kiev had been overtaken by the invading Mongol forces in 1240, and most of the Rus’ principalities had been absorbed into the Golden Horde of the Mongol Empire by the time Ivan was born. He ascended to the seat of Prince of Moscow after the death of his father, and then the death of his older brother Yury.

image

Ivan I. He was born around 1288 and died in either 1340 or 1341, still holding the title of Grand Prince of Vladimir.

Ivan I stepped into a role that had already been expanded by his predecessors. Both his older brother and his father had captured nearby lands, including Kolomna and Mozhaisk. Yury had also made a successful alliance with the Mongol leader Uzbeg Khan and married his sister, securing more power and advantages within the hierarchy of the Golden Horde.

Ivan I continued the family tradition and petitioned the leaders of the Golden Horde to gain the seat of Grand Prince of Vladimir. His other three rivals, all princes of Tver, had previously been granted the title in prior years. However they were all subsequently deprived of the title and all three aspiring princes also eventually ended up murdered. Ivan I, on the other hand, garnered the title from Khan Muhammad Ozbeg in 1328. This new title, which he kept until his death around 1340, meant he could collect taxes from the Russian lands as a ruling prince and position his tiny city as a major player in the Vladimir region.

Moscow’s Rise

During this time of upheaval, the tiny outpost of Moscow had multiple advantages that repositioned this town and set it up for future prosperity under Ivan I. Three major contributing factors helped Ivan I relocate power to this area:

  • It was situated in between other major principalities on the east and west so it was often protected from the more devastating invasions.
  • This relative safety, compared to Tver and Ryazan, for example, started to bring in tax-paying citizens who wanted a safe place to build a home and earn a livelihood.
  • Finally, Moscow was set up perfectly along the trade route from Novgorod to the Volga River, giving it an economic advantage from the start.

Ivan I also spurred on the growth of Moscow by actively recruiting people to move to the region. In addition, he bought the freedom of people who had been captured by the extensive Mongol raids. These recruits further bolstered the population of Moscow. Finally, he focused his attention on establishing peace and routing out thieves and raiding parties in the region, making for a safe and calm metaphorical island in a storm of unsettled political and military upsets.

Kievan Rus’ 1220-1240. This map illustrates the power dynamics at play during the 13th century shortly before Ivan I was born. Sarai, the capital of the Golden Horde, sat to the southeast, while Moscow (not visible on this map) was tucked up in the northern forests of Vladimir-Suzdal.

Ivan I knew that the peace of his region depended upon keeping up an alliance with the Golden Horde, which he did faithfully. Moscow’s increased wealth during this era also allowed him to loan money to neighboring principalities. These regions then became indebted to Moscow, bolstering its political and financial position.

In addition, a few neighboring cities and villages were subsumed into Moscow during the 1320s and 1330s, including Uglich, Belozero, and Galich. These shifts slowly transformed the tiny trading outpost into a bustling city center in the northern forests of what was once Kievan Rus’.

Russian Orthodox Church and The Center of Moscow

Ivan I committed some of Moscow’s new wealth to building a splendid city center and creating an iconic religious setting. He built stone churches in the center of Moscow with his newly gained wealth. Ivan I also tempted one of the most important religious leaders in Rus’, the Orthodox Metropolitan Peter, to the city of Moscow. Before the rule of the Golden Horde the original Russian Orthodox Church was based in Kiev. After years of devastation, Metropolitan Peter transferred the seat of power to Moscow where a new Renaissance of culture was blossoming. This perfectly timed transformation of Moscow coincided with the decades of devastation in Kiev, effectively transferring power to the north once again.

image

Peter of Moscow and scenes from his life as depicted in a 15th-century icon. This religious leader helped bring cultural power to Moscow by moving the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church there during Ivan I’s reign.

One of the most lasting accomplishments of Ivan I was to petition the Khan based in Sarai to designate his son, who would become Simeon the Proud, as the heir to the title of Grand Prince of Vladimir. This agreement a line of succession that meant the ruling head of Moscow would almost always hold power over the principality of Vladimir, ensuring Moscow held a powerful position for decades to come.

Still, from 2019 onwards, Volkswagen Jettas have had adaptive cruise control (ACC) in their higher trims and the more-basic cruise control in the lower ones.
