Everything to Know for Your First Disney Cruise

disney cruise 14 nights

Wondering what you need to know before sailing the high seas with Mickey, Minnie and the gang? From familiar entertainment and exciting Marvel experiences to upper deck water slides for kids and plenty of quiet pools for adults to relax, there's so much to do — and also to know.

What and Where

Disney Cruise Line operates four different ships — Magic, Fantasy, Dream and Wonder — that travel on itineraries that include tropical stops in the Caribbean and Bahamas, domestic outings to Alaska and along the coasts, as well as throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Sailings last anywhere from two nights to two weeks out of ports in a handful of countries, with some departures out of Port Canaveral, located an hour from Walt Disney World.

Family Friendly

Disney Cruise Line’s essence is extremely family-friendly, offering the charm of Disney characters, films and music through every step of the journey. In addition to the plentiful activities for young ones, the ships and activities offer quiet areas and escapes that are exclusive to adults.

Pools, Slides and More

Disney Cruise Line ships have an assortment of pools and themed water play areas, with most offering a large signature waterslide. The AquaDunk on the Disney Magic shoots riders down from three stories up, while the AquaDuck on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy offers a water coaster ride high above the pool deck.

Instead of spending each night in a formal dining room, Disney Cruise Line has rotational dining, wherein guests switch between three different restaurants. The stylized eateries vary between ships — Disney Wonder serves cajun and creole food at “The Princess and the Frog”-inspired Tiana’s Place, while Disney Magic offers a “Beauty and the Beast”-themed Lumiere’s — and all have Animator’s Palate, which highlights the artistry of Disney and Pixar’s most popular films.

Entertainment

There aren’t any true attractions on board, but this is still definitely Disney. Special interactive appearances from Finding Nemo characters at Animator’s Palate restaurant on Dream and Fantasy sailings is on par with Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot and Disney California Adventure, while the Midship Detective Agency unveils an exciting layer of the two ships you’d otherwise never know.

Castaway Cay

Disney Cruise Line visits destinations across the globe, but a favorite among guests remains Castaway Cay, a private Disney-operated island in the Bahamas.

What's Included

The sit-down restaurants, buffets and room service on all Disney Cruise Line ships is included in the price. Unlimited soft-serve ice cream and treats are also available around the ship, as well as complimentary fountain soda, tea and coffee in restaurants and on the main deck.

Adults Only

Disney ships offer plenty of tranquil adults-only areas. All ships have a set of pools reserved exclusively for adults, as well as a collection of bars and restaurants that are segmented away from the rest of the ship. The Senses Spa Rainforest Room has a selection of steam rooms and whirlpool spas, and Castaway Cay offers Serenity Bay, a beachfront area of the island exclusively for guests 18 and over.

Fine Dining

Disney Cruise Line does offer dining upgrades by way of its upscale on board restaurants, which are exclusively for adults and absolutely worth the splurge. Palo, an Italian restaurant located on all four Disney Cruise Line ships, serves a three-course selection of dishes including pasta, steaks and souffles, well as a brunch on select sailings. Disney Dream and Fantasy additionally offer Remy, a multi-course fine dining French restaurant with a dress code to match.

All Disney Everything

You can watch Disney films on the large-scale “Funnel Vision” screen at the Goofy Pool or Donald Pool during the day or night. Disney ships even play Disney, Star Wars and Marvel films the same day they’re released in theaters, broadcasting the newest films inside the Buena Vista movie theater.

State Rooms

If you’d rather call it an early night, there's a range of films on-demand within state rooms. Cabins have a “split” double bathroom and shower that can be used as a bathtub, as well as pull-down beds and fold-out couches. There’s also a laundry room aboard each ship that’s open 24 hours.

Special Sailings

With new Marvel Day At Sea bookings on the Disney Magic and Star Wars Day At Sea on the Disney Fantasy , the ship turns into a completely themed environment with exclusive deck parties, activities, fireworks and themed food and drinks all day and night long. Star Wars sailings offer photo ops with R2-D2 and C-3PO as well as famous beings on both sides of the force, while Marvel fans will love meeting Iron Man, Black Panther, Loki and Spider-Man among others, as well as a visit from the Guardians of the Galaxy. There are also special sailings over Halloween and Christmas that incorporate the holidays into onboard activities.

Kid's Areas

One oft-praised feature of Disney Cruise Line are Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab, both included in all sailings. This set of connected and themed play areas is for kids ages 3 to 12. Guests aboard Disney Fantasy will have an extra-special time learning skills and accomplishing impressive feats with Doctor Strange and Thor in the Marvel Super Hero Academy, while the Star Wars: Command Post brings kids face-to-face with intergalactic activities, as well as special appearances by beloved characters like BB-8. Similar experiences are available at the Marvel’s Avengers Academy on Disney Magic, Marvel Super Hero Academy on Disney Wonder and a Star Wars-themed Millennium Falcon space on the Disney Dream.

If you’re looking for a photo opp with Mickey Mouse, you won’t have to search very far. Disney princesses, popular characters and even some rare favorites offer regular meet-and-greets on Disney Cruise Line sailings. If you miss them, which is nearly impossible to do, there are opportunities within lively character dance parties, spontaneous appearances on the ship’s pool decks and certain interactions — Disney Princess Gathering and Frozen Meet and Greet, specifically — can be pre-booked.

More Entertainment

In addition to nightly Broadway-style shows on all four Disney Cruise Line ships, some of which bring familiar Disney films such as “Aladdin,” “Frozen,” and “Beauty and the Beast” to life, there are plenty of other shows to take in throughout the cruise, especially with outdoor “deck parties”, trivia and solo entertainers.

Pirate Night + Fireworks

An entire night of Disney Cruise Line sailings is dedicated to “Pirates of the Caribbean,” with themed dinner options and complimentary pirate bandanas for each guest, even though plenty pack their own outfits and come in full freebooter regalia. After an adventurous evening performance with Captain Jack Sparrow, the spectacle’s “buccaneer blasts” begin, a true fireworks show at sea set to the energetic film soundtrack.

Small Upcharges

Though most everything is included in Disney Cruise Line sailings, there are a few additional but worthy expenses. Mickey-dusted cappuccinos at Cove Cafe are delightful, Royal Court Royal Tea offers a tableside experience with Disney characters and Vanellope’s & Treats on Disney Dream and Sweet On You on Disney Fantasy are ideal stops for delectable sundaes, scoops of gelato and other themed baked goods. For the little ones, there’s also a “It’s a small world” childcare nursery for children six months to three years old, for an hourly cost.

Disney Cruise 2024: Sail Dates, Itineraries, and Ports

UPDATED Sept 5, 2023: This article has been updated to add 2024 cruises on the Disney Treasure cruise ship, which is scheduled to begin sailing in late December 2024.

If you’re dreaming of a Disney Cruise 2024, you’ll need to know where the ships are and where they’re going. Although there are plenty of Disney Cruises in 2024, not every itinerary is offered at every port during every month of the year. And once you throw school vacations and time off work into the mix — not to mention the complexities of multiple cruise ships and countless itineraries — it can be tricky to figure out just which cruise to select.

With that in mind, we offer this handy reference guide. We’ll start with a brief glance at where all of the Disney Cruise Ships will be located throughout the year. Then, we’ll go in-depth for each month so you can see exactly which sail dates are being offered for each itinerary.

Have Questions About 2024 Disney Cruises? Vacationeers Are Standing By!

Where Will the Disney Cruise Line Ships Be In 2024?

Here’s a quick overview at what’s planned so far. To see specific cruise itineraries and sail dates, look at the monthly entries further down this page.

Disney Dream

The Disney Dream cruise ship spends the first half of 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , continuing the string of Caribbean Cruises it had begun offering from there in November 2023.

In May, the ship heads out on a Transatlantic voyage that positions it in Europe for the summer travel season.

The Dream will offer a series of European itineraries that sail out of Barcelona, Spain and Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy from early May through late July — and from Southampton, England from late July through mid-September.

Disney Dream sailings between mid-September and mid-October are not yet released , but it’s likely the ship will remain in Europe during that timeframe.

Following a Transatlantic voyage in late-October, the ship returns to Fort Lauderdale in November and offers Bahamian and Caribbean cruises for the remainder of the year.

Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy will be based out of Port Canaveral, Florida throughout 2024.

From early 2024 through the end of September, the Fantasy primarily offers Caribbean cruises. From October onward, the ship adds in a number of Bahamas sailings including Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Disney Magic

The Disney Magic cruise ship rings in the new year in Galveston, Texas , continuing the series of Caribbean cruises it had begun a few weeks earlier.

In February, it briefly relocates to New Orleans, Louisiana for a month of Caribbean cruises out of that port before returning to Galveston in March.

The Caribbean cruises continue from Galveston through mid-April, when the ship relocates to San Juan, Puerto Rico .

The San Juan Caribbean cruises run through mid-May, when the ship relocates for an extended assignment to Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), Florida .

In Fort Lauderdale, the ship will mainly sail on Bahamian itineraries (featuring Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney’s newest private port), with an occasional Caribbean cruise in the mix.

The Disney Magic briefly returns to San Juan for part of November, then returns to Galveston for the remainder of the year.

Disney Treasure

The brand new Disney Treasure cruise ship just barely squeaks into 2024’s sailing schedule; the ship’s 7-night Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida start in late December.

Disney Wish

The Disney Wish has the simplest of all sailing schedules.

The ship will be based in Port Canaveral , Florida throughout all of 2024, sailing on 3- and 4-Night Bahamian Cruises.

Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder cruise ship starts 2024 in the southern hemisphere, continuing the inaugural season of Disney’s Australia and New Zealand cruises which began in October 2023. These cruises sail out of Sydney, Australia and Melbourne, Australia in January and early February.

Starting in mid-February, the ship goes on a series of one-way cruises that take it to Honolulu, Hawaii , followed by Vancouver, Canada, and finally to San Diego, California .

Once the ship arrives in San Diego in mid-March, it begins a string of Baja cruises that last through early May.

The ship then returns to Vancouver to begin the 2024 Alaska Cruise season, which lasts through late September.

From there, a series of one-way cruises take the ship back to Honolulu and then to Brisbane, Australia to start another series of Australia and New Zealand cruises for the remainder of the year and into early 2025 (sailing out of Brisbane, Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne ).

When Does Disney Release Its 2024 Cruises?

Disney Cruises are typically released in three phases throughout the year.

The first phase of sail dates, covering travel from the beginning of the year through Spring 2024, was announced in December 2022.

The second phase of sail dates, covering travel for Summer 2024 and early Fall 2024, was announced in March 2023.

The third phase of sail dates, covering the final months of 2024, was announced in June 2023. Some saildates for the Disney Dream (mid-September through mid-October) were still missing during this announcement, and might possibly indicate a “dry dock” period in which there are no cruises and the ship is essentially “closed for refurbishment.”

There was a special fourth announcement of 2024 sail dates due to the arrival of the new Disney Treasure cruise ship. The ship only has two 2024 sail dates, both in late December; those were announced to the public in September 2023.

When Do Cruises to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point Begin?

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera, Bahamas, is Disney’s newest private destination — and it’s certainly been highly anticipated.

Unlike Disney Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island), Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a private port rather than a private island . Construction has been underway for a few years, and the island is ready to welcome its first Disney Cruise Line guests.

The first cruise scheduled to visit Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a special preview sailing on the Disney Magic. It departs from Fort Lauderdale on June 6, 2024 .

After that, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a frequent stop on Bahamas Cruises from Fort Lauderdale all summer long.

There’s also a special “Lighthouse Point Inaugural Cruise” from Port Canaveral on the Disney Fantasy June 8. 2024 — one of the few chances in Summer 2024 to reach Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point from Port Canaveral rather than Fort Lauderdale. Once fall 2024 rolls around, the port can be regularly reached through sailings from either Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral.

Want to secure your spot on the inaugural season of cruises to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point?

Now let’s take a look at the Disney Cruises setting sail each month of 2024. Below, we’ve listed the first day of each cruise departure currently scheduled to occur in 2024. Dates which show “none” indicate days on which no cruises begin their voyages.

Note that we’ve omitted cruises that aren’t open to the general public, such as short no-passenger relocation voyages or privately-chartered sailings such as the Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise.

No, there aren’t any 2024 Disney Cruises from New York . They’ve sometimes skipped New York for a few years in a row, so we don’t know how long it’ll be until it’s back on the schedule. They haven’t released a full 2025 schedule yet, so we don’t yet know if anything will show up for the later months of 2025. Hope that helps!

How Much Does a Disney Cruise Cost? 2024 Pricing Explained

disney cruise 14 nights

The Disney Wish will sail its inaugural season of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from its new home port of Port Canaveral, Florida.

Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of Disney-themed ships with all-inclusive cruises traveling all over the world. Disney Cruises often Broadway-caliber dinner shows, Disney lounge-themed experiences, character meet and greets, and other themed experiences. Disney Cruises also offer amazing amenities and luxurious upgrade options for guests looking to sail in style. So this also begs the question, what does a Disney Cruise cost?

If you're new to the experience of cruises, it also helps to understand how cruises are typically priced and what cruise lines mean by all-inclusive voyages. Keep reading for our full breakdown of Disney Cruise costs including amenities, inclusive options, and optional upgrades. We have experienced a variety of Disney Cruises plus we have the experience of helping guests budget for their Disney vacations whether it's for Disneyland, Walt Disney World or a Disney Cruise Line experience.

Disney Cruise Cost Pricing Explained

Disney Cruise Cost

Let's start by covering the details of how Disney Cruise costs are calculated between room pricing and cost per person.

Disney Cruise Room Pricing

All Disney Cruise costs are priced based on two adults in the stateroom (room on the ship). This means that one adult traveling with a child (ages 3-12) is the same price as two adults (13 and up) in the room. Children ages 0-2 pay 50% of the child rate.

After the two adult prices, the third and fourth passengers in the stateroom are charged a lower rate. If you are traveling alone, Disney Cruise Line will charge you 100% of the second adult’s cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes) in addition to the full fare for the first adult.

Pricing Per Adult

It is simply impossible to determine exactly how much a person will pay without looking at several different factors. We are going to break these factors on Disney Cruise cost down for you.

Then, we will help you gauge pricing on a budget to pricing with no limits, and everything in between, so that you have an accurate idea of what you can expect to pay for your Disney Cruise itself. We will also show you a full Disney Cruise Scenario with estimates on what you may need to include for a Disney Cruise. Finally, we detail some ways to save money if you are interested in sailing on a Disney Cruise.

Which Disney Cruise Should I Do?

The first couple of factors to consider when deciding to book a Disney Cruise and cost are where you want to go and what ship you want to sail on.

Disney Cruise Ships

Disney currently has 6 signature cruise ships with more on the way.

The newest cruise ship available right now is the Disney Wish, but the Disney Treasure begins sailing in December of 2024, and it is almost time to start booking!

Each Disney ship is decked out from bow to stern in immersive Disney experiences. The experiences are going to differ depending on the ship, where it is sailing to, and if it is a themed expedition or not.

Ships Sailings

  • Disney Magic : Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Panama Canal
  • Disney Wonder : Alaska, Mexico, Caribbean, South Pacific, New Zealand & Australia
  • Disney Dream : Caribbean, Bahamas, Europe, Bermuda, Transatlantic Cruises
  • Disney Fantasy : Caribbean and Bahamas
  • Disney Wish : Bahamas
  • Disney Treasure : Caribbean

Disney Cruise Cost Factors

There are a few factors that will impact the cost of a Disney Cruise like time of year, location of the cruise, plus the Disney Cruise ship chosen.

Time of the year

Disney prices their cruises based on peak seasons. The more in-demand the cruise sailings are, the higher the pricing.

The first peak season is the most expensive. Think about when children are out of school, June – August. There is an increase in demand for ships and sailings, so the pricing also goes up. Alaska, and the Caribbean, are usually priced high during this time. Europe and the Panama Canal are usually only offered during these peak seasons.

Holidays are another popular peak season. The Bahamas and the Caribbean are going to be more expensive during these times because families will want shorter cruises, which are offered to these two locations.

Off-season bookings will be cheaper, but keep in mind, that the weather may not be as cooperative depending upon the location you are sailing to.

When choosing locations for your cruise, a cruise to the more remote destination Alaska is going to cost more than sailing to the Bahamas from Florida.

Europe and the Panama Canal are usually only offered in the summer, which can drive up the price of the cruise.

When deciding on what you want out of your cruise, guests can choose from different night lengths.

Disney currently offers cruises in 1-3, 4, 5-6, 7 8-13, or 14+ lengths. The longer you cruise, the more expensive the cruise is going to be because more amenities are included and paid for in the cruise cost.

Specialty Cruises

Disney offers specialty cruises throughout the year. Each of these specialty cruises is going to include extra events, entertainment, dining specialties, and more that are factored into the higher costs.

Guests can book a Pixar Day at Sea, Marvel Day at Sea, Halloween High Seas, and Holiday-themed cruises.

Disney Cruise cost entertainment

Stateroom type

There are four different types of staterooms guests can book on the cruise ships. A stateroom is the cruise equivalent of your hotel room.

The most luxurious accommodations on the cruise and the most expensive. Each room has a large private verandah (balcony) and premium amenities and services included. Prices for this type of hotel room will be the most expensive out of all rooms on the ship costing upwards of $6,000 for a trip.

The most spacious non-concierge staterooms are in the Verandah category. Each room comes equipped with a private verandah (balcony), some with partial views of the ship and ocean. The space and balcony are worth the price increase if you are sailing on a longer cruise. This category is the second most expensive type of room to choose from and also tends to sell out the quickest. Pricing tends to start around the $3500 total mark for most cruise lengths and destinations.

The oceanview room has more space than an inside room and also includes a porthole or two to be able to see the ocean. This is a great middle price on the cruise where you can still see the ocean passing by, but you don’t have the balcony to walk out on. This type of room falls in the middle pricing category. The cheapest cruises will come in around $2800 total but can go much higher depending on the length and destination.

Disney Cruise inside rooms

The base accommodations feature no outside viewing as the rooms are on the inside of the ship. However, Disney provides a scenic porthole display of different images to make it not feel as claustrophobic. These will be the absolute cheapest rooms due to not having an actual window or balcony. If you want to go on a Disney cruise, but your family is on a strict budget, these rooms will be the cheapest, averaging around the $2,000 – $4,000 range.

Transportation To Port

By far the biggest factor that will vary for each family going on a Disney cruise is the transportation to the Departing Port.

You will need to provide your own flight, take a train, or drive to the port that you are leaving from. This cost is going to vary widely depending on where you live versus where you need to leave from.

We also recommend arriving the day before the cruise is set to depart so there are no delays in boarding the ship at your arrival time. This is going to cost a night at a nearby hotel, which adds to the overall budget for your cruise.

Disney has ports in the following locations:

  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Port Canaveral, Florida
  • Vancouver, Canada
  • Auckland, New Zealand
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Honolulu, Hawai’i
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Melbourne Australia
  • Southampton, England
  • Brisbane, Australia
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
  • New York, New York
  • San Diego, California
  • Galveston, Texas

Certain cruises only depart from specific locations. You can filter this when you are searching to book your cruise.

When planning your destinations for your cruise, it is helpful to know where you are going to sail from. The majority of the Bahamas and Caribbean cruises are going to leave from the two ports in Florida, but they also depart from Texas. The Alaskan cruises sail from Vancouver, Canada.

The cheapest way to book transportation is to filter the cruises by which port is closest to you and see which destinations are available. Or, you can filter by destination and then see which ports are the closest to you to help keep costs down.

Keep in mind that if you drive to the port, this will be an additional cost to park your car at the port as well. The fee will be nightly similar to an airport.

What is Included in the Disney Cruise Cost Base Price?

A big question is what do I get for the price tag I see on the Disney Cruise Line website?

When booking your Disney Cruise, you are not just paying for a hotel room like many other vacations. You are paying for an all-inclusive Disney Experience . For every Disney Cruise booked, you can expect the following accommodations, activities, and amenities.

Room type chosen

Guests can choose from 4 different stateroom types:

  • Concierge – Most expensive and most luxurious
  • Verandah – Popular and mid-level pricing
  • Ocean View – Mid-level pricing
  • Inside – Cheapest book and smallest rooms

What is Not Included in a Disney Cruise?

While Disney Cruises is great at including a lot of amenities in the total trip cost, there are a few extras that you may want while sailing on your ship.

  • Port Excursions
  • Premium desserts
  • Premium coffee (at the Cove cafe)
  • Meals at the adult-only Palo and Remy
  • Gratuities – can be prepaid
  • Wireless Internet Access
  • Baby Nursery (6 months -3 years)

All of these items should be considered when pricing out your Disney Cruise so that you do not have any unexpected costs.

disney cruise 14 nights

Menus for restaurants are available on the Disney Cruise Line Website, so you can see if you want to eat somewhere not included in the base price.

Port Excursions are also booked ahead of time, so you can prepay these items and include them in the final cost of your cruise.

Gratuities Explained

On a cruise ship, it is customary to give gratuities in recognition of exceptional service. Disney recommends a gratuity amount of $14.50 USD per night, per stateroom Guest, including infants and children or $15.50 USD per night, per stateroom Guest for concierge and suites.

Pre-Paid Gratuities are distributed to the Crew Members who take care of you in the following roles:

  • Dining room server
  • Dining room assistant server
  • Dining room head server
  • Stateroom host

Easily pre-pay gratuities online to create a carefree, all-inclusive experience by visiting My Reservations in your Disney account and following the prompts for Pre-Paid Gratuities. If you do not pre-pay before boarding the ship, Disney automatically charges your onboard account the suggested gratuity amount. Once on the ship, you can adjust the amount of your Pre-Paid Gratuities by visiting Guest Services prior to the end of your cruise.

Pre-Paid Gratuities do not include the following gratuities, which are either included in the charge or based on your discretion:

  • Extras added to rotational dining meals such as alcoholic beverages
  • Adult dining locations such as Remy, Palo, Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, which are not part of rotational dining
  • Food or drink in shops and outdoor or poolside eateries
  • Room service
  • Port Adventures
  • Senses Spa & Salon
  • Concierge Lounge Team—Guests staying in Concierge accommodations are recommended a gratuity amount of $8.00 per night, per stateroom Guest
  • Any other additional services
  • An 18% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, deck service tabs and spa services. All gratuities can be charged to your onboard account.

Disney Cruise Islands Cost

Disney’s Private Islands

When sailing on a Disney Cruise, one of the locations you will visit on your travels during a Bahamian cruise is one of Disney’s Private Island’s Castaway Cay and coming soon Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Castaway Cay is the perfect beach getaway. Amenities on the island include

  • A family beach
  • Serenity Bay (18+ beach)
  • Teen Hideout
  • Game Pavilion
  • Sports Beach
  • Snorkeling Lagoons teeming with sea life
  • Water play areas
  • Walking trails
  • Open-air BBQ dining locations serving complimentary meals
  • Free transportation around the island
  • Character appearances
  • Boat rentals

Disney’s new island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will have similar amenities to Castaway Cay! We can’t wait to see what the island holds.

Breakdown of Pricing

This section of our article is going to take a look at the specific pricing of specific cruises to help estimate Disney Cruise cost. The three most popular Disney Destinations are the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Alaska, so that is what pricing we are going to focus on.

Disney Cruise On a Budget

If you really want to go on a Disney Cruise and stick to a budget, the 3-night and 4-night cruises are going to be the best option. Depending on how far from your destination you are traveling, the amount of time on the ship versus in a port will vary. The Bahamas destinations are going to offer more time in ports where Caribbean cruises will be more time on the boat.

The cheapest room option on a cruise is always the interior room. However, these rooms don’t have actual windows and can make a very tight space for a family of four, which we are basing all of our pricing on. If possible, spring for at least an Oceanview room where you are guaranteed at least one actual window.

Another way to stay on budget is to adjust the dates. In the tables below, you will see different dates and different ships will provide cheaper options. Cruises during February, August, and September tend to be cheaper, similarly to a Walt Disney World Vacation, whereas cruises during holiday seasons (Spring Break, Christmas, New Years, Halloween, etc.) are going to be more expensive.

3- Night Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

  • 4 Guests – 2 adults, 2 children
  • Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point & Nassau, Bahamas

disney cruise 14 nights

4 – Night Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

4-Night Western Caribbean Cruise from Galveston

  • Sailing to Progreso, Mexico

4- Night Western Caribbean Cruise from New Orleans

  • Sailing to Cozumel, Mexico

5- Night Western Caribbean Cruise from New Orleans

  • Sailing to Cozumel, Mexico & Progreso, Mexico

The cheapest Alaskan cruise is about the price of the Concierge Level for other Disney Cruises.

7 – Night Alaskan Cruise from Vancouver

  • Sailing to Glacier Viewing (Stikine Icecap), Alaska; Skagway, Alaska; Juneau, Alaska; Ketchikan, Alaska

Disney Crusie Cost

Mid-Range Disney Cruise Pricing

A 5 – 6 day cruise is a great mid-price range budget. Typically with these cruises you will have enough time to explore the ship while also getting at least two, if not three days in a port of call to explore your destination.

For the longer 5-6 day cruises, we recommend the oceanview or verandah rooms. To keep the budget down and get to experience more for your money, avoid booking the concierge rooms at these middle price points.

Another great way to spend your money is to book one of the themed cruises. Guests can book the Marvel Day at Sea, a Halloween Cruise, or a Merry Christmas Cruise. The prices are going to be higher for these themed cruises even if they are only 5-6 days long, but you get a lot more special activities.

Disney Cruise Cost Aquamouse

5-Night Western Caribbean Cruise from Galveston

5- Night Western Caribbean Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

  • 4 guests – 2 adults, 2 children
  • Sails to George Town, Grand Cayman & Disney Castaway Cay

Disney Cruise Alaska

No Restrictive Budget Pricing

The longer cruise you book, the more ports you can stop at and the greater chance you have to stretch your days at sea to fully explore all that the ship has to offer.

The longer the cruise, guests can also experience more themed Disney nights and formal nights as well. This can make the cruise an extra special vacation due to all of the extra magic you are receiving.

Our recommendation for rooms on a cruise any longer than 5 days is to book at least a verandah room if not the concierge rooms. This is going to provide the most space for the times when you need to escape from the hustle and bustle of the ship.

In addition to the longer cruise, specialty cruises can also be booked during peak times if you don’t have an incredibly restrictive budget.

Disney Cruise Line Discounts

Disney cruises can be expensive, but there are ways to save money.

The best way to save money is to book as soon as you know when you want to sail.

Cruises price rooms by tiers – the earlier you book, the lower the cost.

disney cruise 14 nights

Special Pricing

Sometimes Disney will offer special pricing for Florida residents, military personnel, travel agents, and cast members.

They may also offer Kids Sail Free to families with children.

Travel Agencies can also offer promotions if you book through them in the form of Shipboard Credit. While on the ship, you can use this credit for spa treatments, merchandise, photos, and more. Be aware these credits expire at the end of your cruise.

Final Thoughts

A Disney Cruise is an exceptionally personal vacation that allows your family to customize the trip that fits what you want and need. With each ship featuring new shows, themed restaurants, amazing kid areas, and specialty adult-only sections, there is a multitude of opportunities that a Disney Cruise ship offers for a vacation – not to mention the amazing destinations.

Unfortunately, because Disney provides so many different ships and opportunities, it is difficult to narrow down the exact price that a cruise will cost your family. One thing for sure is that you can't put a price on the magical memories that will be made on your Disney Cruise vacation.

Disney Cruise Pirate Night – The Ultimate Guide

Sharing is caring!

Pirate Night on a Disney Cruise is one of the highlights of a cruise for many guests.

But what is really involved in a Disney Cruise Pirate Night?

It has become a huge part of the entertainment on a Disney Cruise.

Whether you want to embrace the Pirate Life completely or just enjoy it from the sidelines, here is a complete guide to show you exactly what is involved and how to make the most of the experience.

PIRATE NIGHT ON DISNEY CRUISE LINE

disney cruise pirate night

There are several elements to Pirate Night on your Disney Cruise.

It varies slightly on each ship, but the main things offered are the same.

  • Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party

Pirate Night Menu

  • Late Night Buffet (not on all cruises)
  • Buccaneer Blast Fireworks
  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
  • Pirate Costumes

The Deck Party

The highlight of Disney’s Pirate Night for many people is the Deck Party.

There are usually two shows, with the second show being followed by the fireworks. Sometimes there will be just one show.

Just like the stage shows each evening, the Pirate Night shows are designed so that you can attend the show whichever dinner seating you have.

The timing of the shows is subject to change so you should check your Navigators for the relevant time for your sailing.

The Pirates in the Caribbean Party follows basically the same formula on all the ships, with the exception of the Wish.

disneypiratenightonacruise

On Pirate Night on the Wish, this is Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party hosted by Captain Redd.

In a reference to the classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney Park, Captain Redd is a descendant of the iconic redhead woman in the park attraction.

I won’t go into any particular detail about the show, except to say expect lots of singing, some Pirate Villains and Heroes, and maybe even an unexpected spectacular entrance from Mickey Mouse and Captain Jack Sparrow.

The grand finale of the evening is the Buccaneer Blast Fireworks Show.

I have written about where to pick the best viewing spots for the shows and fireworks later in this article.

Pirate Night Buffet

The Pirate Night Buffet always used to be a feature of the evening. Following the deck party at around 10.30 pm, guests were invited into Cabanas to have even more food!

However, since the resumption of cruising, the buffet only seems to be happening on a select number of cruises.

Even before the shutdown, it wasn’t entirely predictable as to whether or not there would be a Pirate Buffet.

Really, at this point, so late in the evening, the last thing I wanted was even more food! However, it was another fun element to the evening and it is sad to see that it doesn’t often feature anymore.

The Pirate Night Turkey legs were very popular!

What is the Best Place to View the Fireworks on Disney Cruise?

The highlight of Pirate Night is the fireworks. So you want to make sure that you snag yourself a good viewing spot.

Obviously, fireworks are in the sky!

So there are many good places to view this part of the evening.

However, some viewing spots are better than others.

disney cruise pirate night fireworks

The best viewing places depend upon which Disney ship you are sailing on.

Also, be aware that some spaces may be blocked off by Cast Members. This varies, but obviously, if space is blocked off from public access there is a safety reason, so just don’t break the rules.

Disney Magic and Wonder Fireworks

On Classic Ships the Magic and Wonder fireworks can be seen in the sky on the Starboard side of the ship.

If you stand at the Family Pool and look towards the Starboard side, that is where they will appear.

If you are on Disney Magic or Wonder Deck 10 is the place to be.

Most places on Deck 10 are going to give a decent view of the fireworks.

I tend to prefer Deck 10 anyway for Pirate Night as it is slightly less crowded than Deck 9.

The disadvantage is that you can’t then be on the pool deck for the Party. But I think that the benefits outweigh this, particularly if you are not experiencing this for the first time.

If you are on Deck 9 you will still be able to watch the fireworks from most places.

However, there are certain places on this Deck where your view will not be as good as from higher up.

Don’t stand to the far Starboard side under the Deck 10 overhang as you are going to have a severely restricted view here.

disney wonder pirate night

If you are sailing Concierge on the Magic or Wonder the very best place to watch the fireworks on Pirate Night is from the outdoor concierge deck.

The Concierge Deck is, of course, my favorite place to watch the fireworks. Unfortunately, you do not have a view of the Pirate Show as this is directly below you.

Having sailed many times though, if I am sailing Concierge I always watch from this deck. You get a great sense of the atmosphere, without having to deal with the crowds.

Another place to be if you do not want to follow the crowd is Deck 4 Starboard. Relatively few people will be watching from here as you can’t see the show at all. You can hear the music.

Deck 4 is a good alternative place to view but if it is your first Pirate Night you will probably want to be in a different place. It is a very different, much quieter experience here.

Disney Dream and Fantasy Fireworks

The Dream and Fantasy fireworks are also fired from the Starboard side of the ship.

One of the best places to view both the show and the fireworks is Deck 12 Port Side. The show is on Deck 11 which means that you will be above it looking down.

This location on the Port Side of Deck 12 gives one of the best views of the fireworks. However, do be aware not to stand too close to the AquaDuck as this can block your view.

The ideal spot to get a great view of the fireworks and the show is at the front of the railings on Deck 12 Port Side. However, be prepared to stake out this viewing spot early.

You can also stand on the Port Side of Deck 12 to watch the fireworks and you will be able to see the show on Funnel Vision. However, just be careful not to stand so that your view is obscured by the Aquaduck.

If you want to feel more like part of the show then Deck 11 is the place to be. Just avoid being under the overhang of Deck 12 on the Starboard side or you will not have a good view of the fireworks.

Deck 13 is a quieter location for two reasons. The first is that not as many people know about it. The second is because it is an adult-only area. This is an area for viewing the fireworks only as you can’t see the show at all from here.

You can also view the fireworks on Deck 4 Starboard. However, just as for Wonder and Magic, this is a very different experience. One probably not for first-timers unless you do not like being in large crowds.

Disney Wish Cruise Fireworks

The advice for the best places to view the fireworks and show is the same as for the Fantasy and Dream.

It is likely that when the Disney Treasure is launched in 2024 all advice will be the same as the Wish with regard to Pirate Night.

Can You Watch the Disney Cruise Fireworks from your Verandah Stateroom?

Only Verandah Staterooms on the Starboard side would have a view of the fireworks.

There is now a Safety Warning on the Disney Cruise Line App saying that all loose items should be removed from the balcony, the door should be shut and viewing should be from inside only.

Do all Disney Cruises have Pirate Night?

Not all Disney Cruises have Pirate Night.

Disney Alaskan Cruises and European Cruises do not have a Pirate Night.

The 2 and 3-night Australian and New Zealand cruises will not have Pirate Night. DCL originally confirmed that the 3-night cruises would have Pirate Night but then, in August 2023, said that this was no longer the case.

If you are sailing on a Disney Cruise from Australia I would suggest that you contact DCL directly to ask if there will be a Pirate Night, as the information at the moment seems to be contradictory.

Do they have Pirate Night on a 3-day Bahamian and Caribbean Cruise? Yes, there is a Pirate Night on a 3-night cruise.

How much does a Disney cruise really cost?

Megan duBois

Editor's Note

Disney Cruise Line is known for its family-friendly cruises complete with all of your favorite Disney characters, impeccable dining, exciting entertainment and thrilling ports of call. With everything that's included on the sailings, you might be wondering how much a Disney cruise costs — and if you can afford one.

Cruises with Mickey Mouse and his pals range in price depending on many factors such as the embarkation port and destination, departure date, length of the cruise and cabin type you book. No matter which cruise you book, it will be pricey, like any Disney vacation. You'll have to determine what value you put on experiencing the "magic" of Disney.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

To me, it's worth a lot. I've experienced all five ships in the Disney fleet and have sailed seven times to destinations around the Caribbean and the Mediterranean .

Here, I'm sharing how much a Disney cruise costs per ship and itinerary, any extras that are worth the additional fees and how to save money on a Disney cruise.

How much does it cost to go on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise 14 nights

Let's be honest: A cruise on any Disney ship isn't cheap. Factors like cabin type and category, sail date, destination, length of cruise, traveling party size and if you're on a themed cruise can impact the overall cost. If you're trying to keep your costs lower, your best option is to pick a cruise on an older ship (Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) or pick a shorter cruise length.

The cheapest Disney cruise we found cost $1,000 for an inside cabin for two people on a two-night sailing on Disney Wonder in Australia. That's $250 per person per night.

If you're looking for a cheap Caribbean or Bahamian sailing, consider a three-night Bahamas cruise on Disney Magic starting at $1,500 for an inside cabin for two people. This also equates to $250 per person per day. Add in drinks, specialty dining, souvenirs and other expenses, and you can expect to spend around $2,500 in total.

On a recent sailing on the Disney Dream , my family of three and I spent five nights at sea in a balcony room and paid a grand total of $4,514.06. This total included everything from the cruise fare and pre-night hotel stay to parking and spa services.

Some examples of starting prices for each ship and its major itineraries for an inside cabin or a balcony cabin are listed below so you can get a sense of pricing across the fleet. Prices are based on double occupancy.

One- to three-night Bahamas: inside cabins, $1,500 to $2,500; balcony cabins, $1,900 to $3,300 Four-night Caribbean and Bahamas: inside cabins, $1,800 to $3,200; balcony cabins, $2,300 to $4,000 Five- to six-night Caribbean and Bahamas: inside cabins, $2,200 to $4,400; balcony cabins, $3,000 to $6,600 Seven-night Caribbean: inside cabins, $2,700 to $3,300; balcony cabins, $3,800 to $4,900

Where do Disney cruises sail from?

disney cruise 14 nights

Disney Cruises depart from 15 different ports around the world, but the major ones to think about from the U.S. include:

  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Port Canaveral, Florida
  • Galveston, Texas
  • New Orleans

The major international ports Disney Cruise Line sets sail from include:

  • Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Southampton, England
  • Brisbane, Australia
  • Vancouver (British Columbia), Canada

Depending on the cruise you pick, getting to and from the home port can be easy or take a little longer — and that can impact the total cost of your Disney cruise.

For instance, many people drive to Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral if they already live in the southern U.S. Driving can save money versus flying, and you might not have to stay in a pre-cruise hotel if you can drive right to the port.

You will have to pay to park at the port or at a third-party parking lot. While the off-site parking lots are often cheaper, you will need to think about how to get to and from the ship, tipping the porter or driver, plus the added time to get from your car to the ship.

On the other hand, if you are taking a cruise from an international destination or flying to a domestic home port, your costs automatically go up because of flights for your family, a pre-cruise hotel, meals before the sailing, and transportation to the ship and back to the airport.

What's included in the price of a Disney cruise?

disney cruise 14 nights

You might pay a lot for a Disney cruise, but you get a lot for your money. The cost of a Disney cruise covers your onboard dining and most nonalcoholic drinks, an abundance of entertainment for kids and adults, onboard activities and transportation between cruise ports. Even most entertainment and food on Disney's private island Castaway Cay (and upcoming private island destination Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point) is part of the fare.

Entertainment

Most of the entertainment on board is included in the overall cost of your sailing. On your cruise, you can experience Broadway-quality shows inside the Walt Disney Theater, watch first-run movies from Disney's production companies (like Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars), listen to live music and participate in game shows in the adults-only lounges. Most itineraries feature a deck party with a fireworks show.

Kids can meet and play with their favorite Disney characters and participate in activities like karaoke. Family-friendly sun decks with pools, waterslides, splash zones and wading pools are also included in the cost.

disney cruise 14 nights

Disney Cruise Line is known for its rotational dining evening dinner service. Families rotate through three onboard restaurants throughout the sailing, and your service team moves with you. Each of the rotational dining options is included in your cruise fare. One of the restaurants will be open for drop-in, sit-down meals during breakfast and lunch as well. Complimentary room service is available 24 hours a day.

On the upper decks, quick-service food stations, soft-serve ice cream and a buffet are available. Every Disney cruise also includes unlimited coffee, tea and soda.

Accommodations

Almost every cabin across the Disney fleet features Disney's distinctive split bathroom concept. One of the bathrooms has a vanity, sink and tub-shower, plus another bathroom with a vanity, sink and toilet. Each room also has a small refrigerator, safe and hair dryer.

disney cruise 14 nights

Every child ages 3 to 17 will have access to Disney's kids clubs on board. Youngsters ages 3-10 can enjoy Disney's Oceaneer Club and Disney's Oceaneer Lab . Tweens ages 11-14 have access to Edge, and teens ages 14-17 can chill out in Vibe.

Each kids club has dedicated counselors and a host of activities every day. The best way to see the list of activities is to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and scroll through the daily agenda. You can flag activities your kids want to attend, so you can get to the kids clubs before they start.

Adult-exclusive activities

Disney cruises are packed with family-friendly programming, but adults can find spaces and events geared just for them in the adult-only nightclubs and lounges on board. Live music, interactive games and shows are only some of the nightly activities.

Additionally, adults have a dedicated pool and hot tub area that includes a bar and coffee shop. (Drinks cost extra, but access is free). For those looking to stay fit while onboard, access to the fitness center is also included.

Castaway Cay

disney cruise 14 nights

On most Bahamas and Caribbean sailings, you'll stop at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay . At the island, your family can enjoy the family beach or adult-exclusive beach (for those 18 and older).

Use of towels, beach chairs and shade umbrellas are complimentary, as are waterslides and splash zones. Live music and character appearances take place around the island. Kids and teen club activities are available on Castaway Cay — again, at no extra charge. Runners can participate in the Castaway Cay 5K and get a finisher medal.

When it's time to eat, three spots serve an included barbecue lunch, complete with soft-serve ice cream. Coffee, tea and fountain drinks are also included at Castaway Cay.

To get around the island, you can walk or use the complimentary trams.

Are there any extra Disney costs?

Even though many activities, dining options and entertainment are included in the cost of your cruise, you will find things to pay extra for on a Disney cruise. These may or may not be worth it for your family, depending on your budget and interests. Below is a list of things not included in your overall cruise fare.

Some of the cutest Disney activities are also ones that cost extra. Kids who want more time with the Disney characters might be interested in the Royal Court Royal Tea — a tea party with characters for kids ages 3 to 12. According to planDisney (Disney's online resource for vacation-planning tips) , the cost is $220 per child and $69 for anyone 13 and up. Each tea party includes a selection of tea and a two-course meal; every child gets an assortment of gifts.

Kids can also play dress-up and get a full regal or pirate (only available on Pirate Party Nights) makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, found on every Disney ship. Depending on the package you booked for your child, expect to pay $100 to $450 for each makeover.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy both have a virtual sports simulator that requires a reservation and a fee. You can play various sports, from football to golf, for either 30- or 60-minute time blocks. Cost varies based on time, sport and number of people playing.

Specialty dining and cocktails

disney cruise 14 nights

Four specialty dining restaurants are offered across the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Exclusive to Disney Wish (and coming soon to Disney Treasure ) are Enchante and Palo Steakhouse. Expect to pay $60 to $205 plus an 18% auto-gratuity for a meal at Enchante; Palo Steakhouse is $50 for a prix-fixe meal, but an a la carte menu is also available.

On the four other Disney Cruise Line ships, Palo is also $50 for prix-fixe and offers an a la carte menu. An 18% auto-gratuity is also tacked onto your bill.

On Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, Remy is also available, with the dessert experience starting at $65 without the 18% auto-gratuity, while brunch and dinner are $80 and $135 respectively, plus an additional 18% auto-gratuity.

On all ships, themed bars and lounges sling drinks. Because there's no drink package available through Disney Cruise Line, you will have to pay for each drink individually. The planDisney panel says the average drink can range from $6 to $20.

If you're looking for specialty coffee, tea or hot chocolate drinks, look for the Cove Cafe on all ships; there are also specialty counters off of the atrium on Disney Dream, Fantasy and Wish. These drinks cost anywhere from $5 to $8, depending on your order. You can also order alcoholic drinks from the coffee bars, which run the typical cocktail prices.

Outside the Walt Disney Theater or near the movie theaters on board each ship, you'll also smell the buttery goodness of freshly popped popcorn. You can buy the popcorn for an added fee to take into the shows with you. Additionally, there are some specialty popcorn buckets available for purchase on each ship; you can refill them for a discounted price every time you want to munch on the salty snack. (Specialty buckets purchased off the ships at a Disney resort or theme park are not eligible for a discounted popcorn refill.)

Additionally, each ship offers beverage-tasting seminars where you can learn how to make and taste a variety of cocktails in a given category. Seminars can range from $40 to $70 and last about an hour.

While crew gratuities on Disney Cruise Line are not included in the overall cost, some can be prepaid before you step onboard. These include gratuities to your dining room server, assistant server and head server, plus your cabin host. Disney recommends a gratuity of $14.50 per night per person, including infants and children in regular cabins. It's recommended that those in concierge cabins and suites pay $15.50, with the extra going to your cabin assistant host.

Gratuities that are not included can be paid on board. Such gratuities include anything extra you would like to give to your service team, tips on alcoholic beverages in the dining room, adult dining locations, room service and the spa. The concierge lounge team is also not included in prepaid gratuities for concierge guests, and Disney recommends $8 per night per guest.

Keep in mind that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to bar tabs across the ship and for spa services. To make it easy while on the ship, you can charge all your gratuities to your onboard account.

disney cruise 14 nights

If you want to bring something home from your trip — whether from a port of call or from the onboard shops — you'll want to budget for that extra cost. Souvenirs off the ship can range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, depending on what you buy. Be prepared that some shops will only take local currency; purchases at Castaway Cay shops will be charged to your onboard account.

On the ship, easy-to-transport souvenirs included trading pins, magnets and apparel. These can range anywhere from $20 to $75. Other more expensive onboard souvenirs include jewelry, luxury brand purses and wallets, and art.

How do I save money on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise 14 nights

If you're reeling from sticker shock, know you can find many ways to save money on a Disney cruise. Here are a few of my favorite money-saving tips.

Letting Disney choose your cabin can be a great way to get a deal on the cruise. These are known as guaranteed rates, and they are the cheapest fares in each category. All you have to do is pick your room type, such as inside, ocean view or balcony, and Disney picks which specific room number you get. This works best if you don't care where your room is on the ship.

If you're looking for a room upgrade , but that's not a make-it-or-break-it deal for your family, consider waiting to upgrade your room until you get to the port. If your cruise still has rooms available, you can ask at check-in about a room upgrade for a discount. The cost will be relative to the room type you originally booked and the room type you want to upgrade to. Sometimes, you can even upgrade to a concierge room or a suite, but you will need to get an early port arrival time to potentially score one of those upgrades.

Disney Cruise Line has one of the most generous alcohol policies of any big-ship cruise brand. At the start of your cruise, you can bring up to six cans of beer or two bottles of wine per person over 21 years old. Then, at each port, you can restock and bring the same alcohol allotment per person over 21 onto the ship to store in your room and enjoy. You might find that beer and wine are cheaper in port than on board — a smart way to save on your drinking expenses.

Are Disney cruises cheaper or more expensive than other cruise lines?

disney cruise 14 nights

Other family-friendly cruise brands include Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises. While all of the family-friendly brands have pros and cons, picking the right one for your family can come down to a matter of cost. Disney is almost always the most expensive.

For example, we priced out a three-night weekend cruise departing on the same dates for Disney Wish and Royal Caribbean 's soon-to-debut Utopia of the Seas. We found that Disney was almost $500 more expensive for the same weekend, cabin type and length of sailing. Utopia of the Seas came out to $2,850.10 for two people staying in a balcony cabin, while the Disney Wish cruise, also in a balcony room, cost $3,337.20.

What Disney does best — and why many people choose to cruise with the brand — is it provides a high level of service to families, even those in the least expensive cabins. The crew on Disney ships goes above and beyond to make your vacation easy. I've seen everything from dining staff cutting kids' food and taking children to the bathroom to room hosts ensuring parents know about the parental locks on balcony doors (so kids can't just wander outside without an adult).

The extra amenities that Disney offers — such as Broadway-quality shows, character experiences and larger standard cabins — all bring the overall cruise cost up.

Disney also has a smaller fleet than all its family-friendly competitors, meaning there is less cabin inventory to sell. Plus, its ships generally carry fewer passengers. For example, Disney Wish, Disney's biggest ship, carries 4,000 people at full capacity; Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas can carry 7,600 guests at capacity. The low inventory combined with the high demand for Disney cruises means that Disney can charge higher fares and still fill ships.

Bottom line

Cruise fares with Disney can change based on factors like room type, travel party size and sailing date. The minimum price you can expect to pay for a cruise to the Caribbean or Bahamas starts at $1,500 for an inside cabin for two people on Disney Magic.

Disney Cruise Line includes a variety of dining experiences (including room service), soda, character meet-and-greets and Broadway-caliber entertainment in its fares; it also allows passengers to bring alcohol on board in every port of call. For these reasons, you don't necessarily have to spend much on board to have a fantastic vacation. The cruise can be a good value depending on the extras you choose to add.

The real question is whether you want to spend more on the base cruise fare to immerse yourself in the world of Disney versus paying less for another family-friendly cruise line.

Disney’s new cruise ship will have ‘Heroes and Villains’ theme

Disney Cruise Line revealed the name of its next ship, the Disney Destiny, along with details...

(Gray News) – Disney Cruise Line announced details about its next ship Wednesday, the Disney Destiny.

Inspired by the dynamic duality of every great Disney story where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose, the design theme of the new ship will be “Heroes and Villains.”

Guests on board the Disney Destiny will encounter heroes and villains drawn from Disney stories, characters and theme park attractions, and will be able to “embrace their own calling.”

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager.

The company also unveiled the filigree artwork for the bow of the Disney Destiny, featuring Minnie Mouse “striking a valiant pose in a heroic ensemble, her cape waving majestically in the sea breeze as she boldly leads guests toward their vacation destinies.”

“As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea,” Siskie added.

The Disney Destiny is scheduled for delivery in 2025 as part of a multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

Disney's D23 Expo 2024 is hosting panels at the Honda Center, including the Disney Legends ceremony ...

Disney's D23 Expo 2024 Is Growing With Legendary Stars Like Miley

Hannah Montana is getting her dues.

Disney just dropped new details about the House of Mouse’s 2024 D23 Expo, sharing that this year’s ultimate fan event is going to be bigger and better than ever. Not only will the Disney fan con in California be expanding this year, but the list of legends they’ll be honoring includes Hannah Montana herself, Miley Cyrus .

The Disney Legends showcase, which is usually held at the beginning of D23 Expo to kick off the weekend, is getting pushed to Sunday evening, and moving to the Honda Center. Disney’s decision to relocate the biggest panels of the weekend to the arena in Anaheim allows for more fans to participate and teases an even bigger showcase each night.

D23 Expo is like Disney’s version of Comic Con. It’s where the brand announces new films and experiences coming to the parks with some of their biggest stars. In previous years, Walt’s company has announced additions to Avengers Campus and new Frozen lands coming to the parks , and the event has been a who’s who of celebrities. D23 Expo is actually where Mark Ruffalo infamously spoiled Avengers: Infinity War and Pedro Pascal showed off his dadcore style in a floral button-down.

2024’s D23 Expo will take place Aug. 9 through Aug. 11, and is expected to be just as epic. Here are all the details you need to know about tickets, showcases, and how to see Cyrus IRL:

D23 Expo Is Starting Early This Year With A Day At Disneyland

Outside Disney's D23 Expo, which is happening again in August 2024.

The D23 Expo takes place in Anaheim, right across the street from the Disneyland Resort. While you can always go into the parks after the convention closes each day, most people opt to rest up for the next day of panels and experiences. The expo often runs from Friday to Sunday, but this year, they’re adding a D23 Day at the Disneyland on Thursday.

On Aug. 8, the Disneyland Resort is offering unique experiences at both parks as well as Downtown Disney for D23 Expo. There will be special photo ops, food, and merch, in addition to a dance party at Disneyland.

The Three Big Showcases Will Include A Disney Legends Ceremony With Miley Cyrus

Disney is honoring Miley Cyrus and other Disney stars with a legends award at D23 Expo in August.

Each night of D23 Expo, there will be a big showcase held at Honda Center. This is the first time Disney is expanding their convention, and it’s to make sure even more fans are there for their big announcements.

On Friday, Disney will have the Disney Entertainment Showcase at 7 p.m., showcasing new series and films from their animation studios, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. Fans may also get exclusive looks at these new projects from the celeb-filled presentation.

If you’re more of a parks fan, you’ll want to attend the Disney Experiences Showcase on Saturday at 7 p.m. This presentation includes all the latest on upcoming projects coming to Disney’s parks around the world along with Disney Cruise Line.

Miley Cyrus is being honored as a Disney Legend at D23 Expo in August 2024.

The final night is when the Disney Legends Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. This is where Cyrus along with the rest of the 2024 class of legends will be honored with Disney’s highest achievement in the company. The Hannah Montana star is the youngest person ever to be awarded a Disney Legend, and she’ll be among some film and TV greats like Angela Bassett, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Harrison Ford, John Williams, Frank Oz, and Imagineer Joe Rohde.

There Will Be Exclusive Merch, Photo Moments, And Sharpay’s Car From High School Musical

D23 Expo 2024 will have Sharpay's car on display from 'High School Musical.'

During the day, explore the show floor at D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center. Booths from Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney+, and Marvel are always a must-see, including the Walt Disney Archives exhibit. This year’s exhibition, A Great Big Beautiful Car Show, will have famous Disney vehicles, like Sharpay’s car from High School Musical.

Disney also teased that there will be even more exclusive merch for you to shop at different stores, like Mickey’s of Glendale, The Hollywood Studio Store, The Emporium, and an all-new Walt Disney Company Store. When you’re not shopping or taking pics, there are tons of panels and presentations to fill your day.

You Could Win A Trip On Disney’s Newest Cruise Ship

You could win a seven-day cruise on the Disney Treasure at the D23 Expo 2024.

D23 Expo will also be giving away FANtastic Prizes each day. You can enter each day of the expo, and one prize includes a seven-day vacay on Disney’s latest cruise ship, the Treasure. The Disney Treasure sets sail in December 2024, and has a Haunted Mansion -themed lounge and Moana stage show.

The Ticket System Is A Little Confusing This Year

Disney's D23 Expo has a tiered ticket system for 2024.

Instead of just having one-day or three-day tickets, D23 Expo has a new tiered ticket system to accommodate the three showcases. If you want to go to the convention and don’t care about the big presentations, there are D23 Fan Pass tickets for just the Anaheim Convention Center only. However, if you’d like a guaranteed seat at the Honda Center, Disney has introduced D23 Ultimate Fan Pass tickets that are a little more expensive.

These passes include assigned seats for evening shows as well as access to the convention center during the day. The cheapest of the Ultimate Fan Pass tickets are for seats in the 400 level at the Honda Center, but if you want to be closer to stars like the “Flowers” singer and Indiana Jones, you’ll want to splurge for the D23 Preferred Ultimate Fan Pass ticket.

Tickets for Disney's D23 Expo 2024 go on sale starting March 26.

There are also different dates for when tickets go on sale, depending on your D23 status. You must be a member to buy tickets, but a General membership is free. You just need to sign up. A Gold membership is $100 a year, and one perk is that you get to purchase tickets for D23 Expo starting March 26 at 12 p.m. PT. If you’re a D23 Gold or General member and a Visa cardholder, tickets will be available on March 27 at 12 p.m. Everyone else will get a chance to buy tickets on March 28 at 12 p.m.

To help you decide which tickets you want to get, here’s a breakdown on all the prices:

One-Day Tickets

  • D23 Fan Pass for Gold Members — $79
  • D23 Fan Pass for General Members — $89
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 400 Level Upper Rows at Honda Center — $99
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 400 Level Lower Rows at Honda Center — $149
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 200 Level Stage Adjacent at Honda Center — $189
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 200 Level at Honda Center — $249

Three-Day Tickets

  • D23 Fan Pass for Gold Members — $209
  • D23 Fan Pass for General Members — $259
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 400 Level Upper Rows at Honda Center — $297
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 400 Level Lower Rows at Honda Center — $447
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 200 Level Stage Adjacent at Honda Center — $567
  • D23 Ultimate Fan Pass with 200 Level at Honda Center — $747
  • D23 Preferred Ultimate Fan Pass with Sections 110 to 112 at Honda Center — $999
  • D23 Preferred Ultimate Fan Pass with Sections 107 to 109 at Honda Center — $1499
  • D23 Preferred Ultimate Fan Pass with Sections 104 to 107 at Honda Center — $2099
  • D23 Preferred Ultimate Fan Pass with Sections 101 to 103 at Honda Center — $2599

To help you get to and from the Honda Center, there will be complimentary round-trip shuttle service. While spending over $2,500 seems like a lot, the cheapest tickets for D23 Expo really aren’t that bad considering all the exclusive experiences there are for hardcore Disney fans. Plus, it may be worth it to see Hannah Montana since Cyrus has said she won’t be touring anytime soon.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Marvel Sailings For 2025

Disney Cruise Line has announced that Marvel Day at Sea will return in early 2025.

You’ll find the Marvel sailings on the Disney Dream, on select 5-night itineraries out of Fort Lauderdale. Marvel enhancements will be found on the Dream’s Bahamian sailings on January 27, February 10, February 24, and March 10, and on the Dream’s Western Caribbean sailings on February 1, February 15, March 1, and March 15 of next year.

Marvel sailings include special photo ops and visits with characters including: Spider-Man, Thor, Loki, Black Panther, Shuri, Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Gamora, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Shang-Chi, Ant-Man, the Wasp, two variations of Captain America, and more. You’ll also find special Marvel-themed food in the main dining rooms.

Themed activities include Marvel trivia, animation classes where you can learn to draw Marvel characters, Marvel film screenings in the theaters and on the ship’s giant Funnel Vision screen, Marvel-themed adventures in the onboard youth clubs, costume contests, live shows, and a themed fireworks presentation. I’ve seen Disney Cruise Line fireworks presentations dozens of times. My personal assessment is that the Marvel Day at Sea Show is the best one, and it’s not even close.

Princess makeovers and $18K dinners: How to spend a fortune at Disney

For a cool $500,000, you too can have an ultra luxury disney honeymoon, complete with a custom gown and carriage.

disney cruise 14 nights

For some Disney fans, waiting in ride lines and dining with the masses at the theme parks just won’t do.

Those seeking a lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous experience can be ushered through lines by a dedicated guide for as much as $900 an hour; watch fireworks from a private boat for $450; or spend three hours sampling food and wine in the kitchen of a fine-dining restaurant for $635 a person. Not pricey enough? There’s always the $18,000 private dinner experience.

Plenty of people are paying for these experiences; in some cases, demand is so high that there’s a waiting list.

“There are a number of people out there where money is no object,” said Greg Antonelle, co-owner of the travel agency MickeyTravels . “I’m a little jealous.”

He said a five-day trip with VIP access, fancy food and luxury accommodations could easily add up to $30,000 to $40,000.

The Walt Disney Company has made headlines for exorbitant prices, including the now-closed $5,000 Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel and role-playing experience and $115,000 private jet excursion to every global Disney park. Even entry-level visitors complain about ticket prices, food costs and the relatively new expense of skipping lines .

The company offers more budget-friendly options, with the cheapest ticket priced at $104 or $109 in California and Florida respectively. In low season, a value-priced hotel room at Disney World runs for about $155 a night.

“Like other vacation destinations, we give our guests lots of options to customize their Disney experience,” Disney spokesperson Avery Maehrer said in a statement.

Still, some fans complain that a Disney vacation has become so costly that it’s out of reach for the middle class, even without luxury upgrades. Between tickets, hotel, food and souvenirs, even a penny-pinching trip can set a family of four back more than $3,000.

For those who have never pinched a penny in their lives — or just saved for a special-occasion splurge — Disney provides a host of options . The extras range from pricey add-ons to truly aspirational indulgence.

$450-an-hour VIP tour

Consider some of the most annoying aspects of a Disney trip — parking, hiking to the gate, queuing to get in, then standing in, line for rides all day. Now imagine avoiding all of that. That’s the promise of a VIP guide who will pick you up, sweep you through backstage entrances and usher you onto rides with minimal or no waits.

The convenience doesn’t come cheap. At Walt Disney World, the tour costs between $450 and $900 an hour, depending on the time of year, with a minimum of seven hours and maximum of 10. Ten people can be part of the group. Park admission is not included — and neither is a tip.

Antonelle said his company has clients who will book 10 days at Disney World and opt for VIP tours for seven of those days. He said it’s not uncommon to see a plaid-wearing VIP tour guide carry a family’s food trays at restaurants or push strollers with the group.

Cara Goldsbury, president and founder of the luxury Disney travel agency Glass Slipper Concierge , said the guides also share stories, trivia and history, and provide access to special viewing areas for parades and nighttime shows.

“That’s the only way to do it as far as most of our clients are concerned,” she said.

$185 photo package

Photographers are stationed all over Disney World parks to take photos of guests, but those snapshots aren’t free. To get downloads of all the pictures from an entire trip, including from rides, the “Memory Maker” package costs $185 if purchased in advance, or $210 during the vacation.

For those who want more time with a photographer, or don’t want to wait for six other families to get that shot in front of the castle, Disney offers private 20-minute photo sessions for $99.

Staci Kimball, a travel adviser and vice president of GSC World Travel , a sister company to Glass Slipper Concierge, said clients care more about memories and experiences than merchandise.

“We really do always recommend either a private photo session or certainly buying the Memory Maker photo package so they can capture all of those memories,” she said.

$250 custom lightsaber

Mickey Mouse ears, popcorn buckets and bubble wands are always in demand, but some travelers want to have a role in making their souvenirs.

Kimball said she helps clients book the Savi’s Workshop experience, where Star Wars-loving visitors can custom-build their own lightsaber. It costs about $250 at Hollywood Studio s in Florida and $220 at Disneyland in California .

“That is a really popular, popular activity,” she said. “That can also be hard to get.”

Another in-demand interactive gadget: a build-your-own droid for about $120 in Florida and $100 in California .

$449 fireworks cruise

Don’t want to brave crowds for fireworks? There are a number of ways to get a better view — including from the water.

Starting at $449, a private fireworks cruise at Disney World can seat up to 10 people and includes snacks and drinks. Chartered boats set sail from several hotels to view the fireworks show at Epcot and Magic Kingdom.

“What we’ve learned is people that are spending exorbitant amounts of money on their vacation, they don’t like waiting in lines, number one, and they don’t like being 20 rows of people back for fireworks,” Antonelle said. Sure, fireworks are overhead, but who really wants to camp out for a good spot and look at hundreds of other necks craning if they can avoid it?

$450 princess makeover

Kids who dream of being royalty, or just looking like the product of a fairy godmother’s magic wand, can visit Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom or Disneyland Park .

Packages start at $99.95 for the princess treatment in both locations or $19.95 for a knight’s look in Florida and $49.95 in California. The most expensive option, starting at $450, includes a “signature Disney Princess gown,” crystal tiara, garment bag, hairstyling, makeup, sash, face gem and nail polish.

“I just did Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique with my 5-year-old granddaughter,” said Goldsbury, who wrote “ The Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World Resort .” “It was the most darling experience.”

$7,900-plus a night hotel

Goldsbury said her company prefers to book clients at Disney World’s priciest, most conveniently located — or “deluxe” — resorts, especially those connected by monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Some rooms have “club level” designation with lounges and free food, she said.

A search of available inventory shows a club-level two-bedroom suite at the Grand Floridian for $3,597 a night in early April of 2025. The Polynesian’s King Kamehameha suite is listed for $3,320 in late August of 2025, a typical slow season.

In California, the two-bedroom Mickey Mouse suite at the Disneyland Hotel is going for about $5,025 in June of this year, and the two-bedroom Mount Whitney suite at the Grand Californian is listed for a whopping $7,984 a night in June.

For some travelers, deluxe hotel prices pose zero problems. Antonelle said he books a “royal family from overseas” at a Disney World deluxe resort.

“They’ll book out literally dozens of rooms because they’re bringing their nannies, they’re bringing their security,” he said.

$18,000 private dining experience

Disney parks are full of budget-stretching drinking and dining options. But three-course dinner inspired by “Beauty and the Beast?” Get ready to shell out $70 per adult. A tequila tasting with a “certified Tequila Ambassador” costs $180 per person. The Chef’s Table at Victoria & Albert’s, a restaurant at the Grand Floridian Resort, is a hot ticket at $635 a person for wine and food.

21 Royal, a private dining experience situated atop Pirates of the Caribbean in California, may take the cake. It costs $18,000 for a group as large as 12 and promises transportation, a reception, opportunity to explore the apartment-type surroundings, a meal on gold-plated dinnerware and balcony dessert with a view of evening entertainment.

AJ Wolfe, owner of the Disney Food Blog , has eaten at 21 Royal twice.

“It was luxurious for sure — the food was wonderful, and I felt like a VIP,” she wrote in an email. “Also, for a Disney history nerd it’s amazing because you know that Walt was integral in thinking about that space — maybe not the decor necessarily, but the layout.”

$95,000 top-floor hotel buyout

The Four Seasons Resort Orlando, near the theme parks, allows guests to rent out its entire 16th floor , which includes balconies with a view of fireworks at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. While the hotel isn’t operated by Disney, advisers say it’s a good fit for luxury travelers who are used to five-star service.

According to the resort, the cost for the top floor is $95,000 a night, plus tax. On a smaller but still extremely expensive scale, prices for the Presidential Suite start at $19,000 a night and $22,000 a night for the Royal Suite.

$500,000 honeymoon

Jennifer Kozlow, a travel adviser and vice president of Glass Slipper Concierge, said she had clients who spent their five-week honeymoon at Disney World. The trip included transportation to a special event in a carriage, a custom gown, private dining as the characters from “Beauty and the Beast” danced, a special fireworks viewing and VIP tours every other day for the five-week stretch. The couple stayed in presidential suites at four different hotels.

Another client managed to spend the same amount of money in a much shorter stretch: four days. Kozlow said the group — a family of 37 — bought out the top floor of the Four Seasons to celebrate the matriarch’s 80th birthday. The family had private meals delivered to their suites so relatives could come and go. The group did daily VIP tours using four guides.

“They flew in on a private plane just to see the resort,” Kozlow said.

There is one thing money can’t buy, she said.

“People do ask: Can they get a character to come to their suite? That you definitely can’t do,” Kozlow said. “They don’t tuck you in at night.”

More about Disney

Outsiders banned: Disney theme park trips cost a lot — more every year — and take heaps of planning to pull off. But the company has recently banned some independent tour guides from helping visitors navigate the parks, citing “unauthorized commercial activities.”

Next-level fandom: For some Disney fans, donning a pair of Mickey ears isn’t enough. In a practice called “ Disneybounding ,” they create entire character-inspired outfits that don’t run afoul of rules that ban costumes for adults. Disney food fans had a reason to celebrate when a beloved snack, Dole Whip , came to grocery stores. How does it stack up to the parks version?

Political crossfire: The most magical place on earth has gotten political , thanks to a battle with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). While several observers have suggested Disney World move out of the Sunshine State, experts say it’s a goofy proposition. Fan sites have been forced to add coverage of lawsuits to their standard lineup about rides, churros and characters.
