Take That, UK pop group

How to get tickets for Take That’s 2024 UK tour: full list of dates, prices and when tickets go on sale

‘This Life On Tour’ will see the trio play 29 dates in 15 cities in the UK and Ireland

Ed Cunningham

Everyone knows Take That. They’re a British institution, responsible for some of the biggest pop tunes of the past three decades, from ‘Shine’ and ‘Patience’ to ‘Back For Good’. Just reading that, we know you’ve just started humming one of those tunes.

These days consisting of just Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, there are decisively fewer members of Take That than at the group’s peak. But they’re still going strong, having just released a new single (‘Windows’) and announced a new album (‘This Life’) to be released in November.

And now, in very exciting news, Take That have announced a tour. Named the ‘This Life On Tour’, it’ll see them play over 30 gigs in over a dozen cities. Here is everything you need to know about the tour, from dates and tickets to the support slots.

Will there be a Take That UK tour in 2024?

There most certainly will be! Take That are going on tour in the UK and Ireland from April to June 2024, covering 31 dates in 15 cities. After the presale today (September 27), further dates were added in Manchester and Leeds – more info on that below.

When do Take That tickets go on sale?

Tickets officially go on sale on September 29 at 9:30am BST . Find the general sale link here .

How much are Take That tickets?

Pricing for each venue and concert has not yet been confirmed, though ticket prices are likely to start from around £60, plus booking fees.

Can I go VIP?

Yep, you can do that through the official hospitality partner,   Seat Unique .   Packages get you things like premium seats, arrival via the hospitality entrance, premium dining options and other cool things.   Find out more here .

How to access presale

Presale was today (September 27) at 9:30am, so if you wanted to get in on the act and didn’t, it’s too late. Fans were able to access presale by pre-ordering the Take That’s new album ‘This Life’.

By all accounts, the presale sounded like a bit of a frenzy. Fans took to Twitter to express frustration at lengthy waiting times and website issues. Here’s to hoping there aren’t any similar problems when general tickets go on sale on September 29!

Take That Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald have announced a new album and that they are going back on tour in 2024 - and fans want to know when Take That tickets go on sale.

Following on from the Take That movie Greatest Days success, the boys are back to mark a new era of music after recording together in Savannah, Georgia.

If you're an original Take That fan, you will know that buying tickets for their gigs is like training for an Olympic sport - whether you're aiming for Gold Circle seats to get within arms reach or just want to be in the same building as the boys - your fastest finger might be first but is your credit card ready and your patience?

Their 2011 Progress tour broke box office records by selling over one million tickets in less than 24 hours. It's five years since the band last performed together and with a new single Windows followed by studio album This Life set to be released on 24th November, fans are determined as ever to see the boys live on tour.

Plus singer and former judge on The Voice , Olly Murs, is joining them as the supporting act, so both "#MursArmy" (Olly Murs fans) and "#Thatters" (Take That fans) will be scrambling for tickets - and that's even without any news of former bandmates Robbie Williams or Jason Orange joining them.

One fan wrote, "Let the ticket stress commence" and another fan added, "Love these smiling faces. I’m ready to buy tickets, stressy though."

And a third fan put, "I can't wait to see you but getting stressed about getting tickets already."

While a fourth fan who was looking for things to do with the kids asked, "Is there a age limit for the tour? My daughter is five she will be almost six and is such a big fan."

We look at all you need to know about how to buy tickets [we can't guarantee it will be stress-free though]...

Some Take That fans are complaining about the ‘absolutely ridiculous’ ticket prices for their upcoming 2024 tour.

Last week the iconic boy band - consisting of Gary Barlow , Howard Donald and Mark Owen - announced that they are set to perform on 29 dates across 15 cities in UK and Ireland next year.

Special guest Olly Murs is also set to feature as tickets will be available to purchase from 29 September at 9.30am.

Christian Kent, Head of Venue, Hospitality and Events, said: “We are delighted to welcome one of the finest bands this country has ever seen to Home Park Stadium.

Full list of dates below

“After the Rod Stewart and Muse shows last summer, it is brilliant to have such a well-loved and well-renowned group come to Plymouth, once again. Our stature as one of the premier venues in the South West continues to go from strength to strength, and welcoming artists of this level only further underlines that.

“We look forward to Take That and Olly Murs appearing at Home Park next June and are sure the people of the South West are equally excited by this announcement.”

However, those who got early access to pre-sale tickets from pre-ordering Take That's new album have been shocked by the prices for the CD bundle.

Fans also pointed out how they were waiting in virtual queues for ‘up to 90 minutes’.

“Probs a blessing I still can't get out of the bloody queue, the prices are absolutely shocking,” one person wrote on X (Twitter).

According to Ticketmaster and See Tickets, standard prices range from £70 all the way up to £132.50.

Another posted: “£132 a ticket at new co-op arena !! Exited the site without purchasing.”

A third fan also revealed ticket prices for the CD Bundle, which according to their screenshot, was £142.50 per ticket for their Manchester event, going up to £255.85.

Meanwhile a fourth person tweeted directly to singer Gary Barlow: “Gary the site is not working at all we are just stuck in a constant queue what was the point in presale if we can't access the site.”

Someone else wrote: “I've been waiting for nearly an hour starting to lose hope of getting any tickets now.”

Tyla has contacted a representative of Take That for comment.

One fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Probs a blessing I still can't get out of the bloody queue, the prices are absolutely shocking.” Another posted: “After 40 mins of waiting was hit with those prices.” Another said: “Take that wtf are these prices”.

Another fan, who shared a screenshot of the ticket prices available at Manchester, said: “ticket prices for take that manchester :(“ Another posted: “£132 a ticket at new co-op arena !! Exited the site without purchasing.”

Others reported issues getting onto the presale altogether. One fan posted directly to singer Gary Barlow: “Gary the site is not working at all we are just stuck in a constant queue what was the point in presale if we can't access the site.” Another wrote: “I've been waiting for nearly an hour starting to lose hope of getting any tickets now.”

Others reported issues with the Gigs and Tour site, where the presale took place for people who those who pre-ordered the band’s album. Fans reported being faced with a message that said: “Please bear with us. At the moment there are a lot of people trying to buy tickets, so we have put a queuing system in place, which is completely normal.”

One fan responded to the message: “I'd much rather see a queue number telling me I'm 32,459th in the queue than this useless screen. I cannot move from my laptop just in case the buy screen comes up.”

Another posted: “Been on the site since 8:55am for the 9:30 presale for Take That and my god its just a constant 20 second count down. Like come on I've been here over 50 minutes now!!”

One other said: “In the pre sale queue for #TakeThat tickets. 90 minutes wait so far.”

Ticketmaster said there were no issues with the site during the presale for Co-Op members this morning. See Tickets have been approached for more information.

Event Details

Iconic British band Take That has announced 4 shows at The O2, taking place in April 2024 on Thursday 25, Friday 26, Saturday 27, Sunday 28 May, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 1 May.

Alongside the show announcements the band has also announced news of their ninth studio album This Life, set for release 24th November. To celebrate the news further, Take That have also unleashed their brand-new single Windows which is out now. They will be joined on the tour by very special guest, Olly Murs.

Those who pre-order new album This Life from the official store here before 10:00 on 26th September will receive a special code to access pre-sale tickets from Wednesday 27th September at 9.30am

Take That are renowned for their huge productions and incredible live shows, and currently hold the record for the most performances at London’s The O2 with 34 headline shows. 2011’s Progress tour broke box office records by selling over 1 million tickets in less than 24 hours, becoming the biggest tour in the UK and earning them a place on Billboard’s annual ‘Top 25 Tours’ list, placing third worldwide. In 2019, the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with the 38 date sell-out Odyssey tour which saw them play to 29 arenas and 9 stadiums, selling over 650,000 tickets.

Take That’s brand new single, Windows, out today - sees them reunite for their first original composition in over five years. Windows, is a beautiful track which tells the story of emerging from the darkness into the light. As a familiar falsetto rings out across the opening notes of Windows, it signals a new era for one of Britain’s best selling bands, Take That; an era brimming with energy, creativity and a continued desire to challenge and surprise.

The musicality of Windows hints at what listeners can expect from This Life, the band’s ninth studio album and their first since 2017’s Wonderland. Beautiful melodies, soaring choruses, sophisticated harmonies beautifully blending the trio’s voices permeate the new album, due for release on 24th November.

“It’s been a wonderful experience being back in the studio together making this record. It has that feeling of spreading your wings, letting out the old and bringing in the new” commented the band. 'We’re incredibly proud of the new album - there’s a sense of togetherness, whether that’s us coming back together as a band or people wanting connection in their own lives. We’re excited for this new chapter."

Throughout the writing and recording process, the band honed this new sound in some of music’s most hallowed halls, including New York’s Electric Lady Studios and Nashville’s Historic RCA Studio A which between them have hosted David Bowie, Dolly Parton, The Beach Boys, Adele, Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers and more. Windows and upcoming album This Life continues the legacy of one of the most successful bands in British chart history, with over 45 million records sold worldwide and 12 Number 1 hits in the UK.

For a band 30+ years into their career, Take That are not standing still; constantly evolving, the future looks bright for the trio.

About Take That

Formed as a five-piece in 1989, Take That enjoyed immediate success with their first two albums charting at Number 2 and Number 1 respectively. Third album Nobody Else confirmed their global domination, selling over six million copies and topping the charts in 11 countries. The departure of band member Robbie Williams prompted a break-up in 1996 and nine years in the wilderness before the remaining four members reunited for 2005’s The Ultimate Tour. This sparked one of the greatest comebacks in British music history with Take That going on to release three Number 1 albums in just four years. Robbie’s return for 2011’s Progress saw them break UK records for the fastest-selling album of the 21st century and fastest-selling tour of all time. Williams’ second departure, along with that of Jason Orange, left the remaining three members to release III and 2017’s Wonderland, which were certified platinum and gold respectively.

The band celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of Odyssey in 2018, a greatest hits album of beautifully re-imagined versions of some of the biggest tracks from their three-decade-spanning career. The album entered the charts at Number 1 and was closely followed by a critically acclaimed UK and European stadium and arena tour in 2019.

Once you get your spot in the queue, please do not refresh your browser as you will be pushed to the end of the line.

We will get you through the queue as quickly as possible, so please sit tight.

We recommend signing into your Ticketmaster account at least 15 minutes before tickets go on sale to save your spot and join the Pre-Queue waiting room.

Please note : The time you join the Waiting Room does not determine your place in the Smart Queue.

Find out more about Ticketmaster’s Waiting Room and Smart Queue here

Take That - Could It Be Magic

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting TAKE THAT tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

——

Take That with very special guest Sophie Ellis-Bextor will be coming to Australia in November 2024. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.com.au

IU gazes into the camera on the red carpet.

We’re already counting down the days.

From July 15 through Aug. 2, international sensation IU aka Lee Ji-eun  is scheduled to headline six huge concerts at arenas all over the U.S. as part of her “HER World Tour.”

The sprawling tour, which officially got underway in IU’s home country South Korea on March 2, will mark the first time that the “LILAC” singer will perform in North America.

In fact, as of now, she’s never performed outside of Asia.

Once she arrives stateside, IU will kick off the tour at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Monday, July 15.

After that, she’ll drop into Atlanta’s State Farm Arena (July 19), Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena (July 22), Rosemont’s Allstate Arena (July 25), Oakland’s Oakland Arena (July 30) and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum (Aug. 2).

Given the novelty of the tour, tickets to see the pop icon live are not cheap.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find was $287 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other shows have tickets starting anywhere from $299 to $448 before fees.

Curious how much it will cost to see IU near you?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about the North American leg of the ‘HER World Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

IU best ticket prices

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

IU set list

On Saturday, March 2, IU kicked off the ‘HER World Tour’ at Seoul’s KSPO Dome.

Here’s what she played that night, according to Set List FM :

Part 1 – Hypnotic

01.) “Holssi” 02.) “Jam Jam”

03.) “Ah puh” 04.) “BBIBBI” 05.) “Obliviate” Part 2 – Energetic

24.) “Leon” 25.) “Every End of the Day” 26.) “You Know” 27.) “Epilogue”

IU new music

On Feb. 20, IU dropped the five-song EP “Love Wins All.”

The five-track mini-album gets things going with the energetic anthem “Shopper” that will have listeners grooving in no time.

After that, the 30-year-old singer delivers the hypnotic “Holssi,” which mashes the sensibilities of ’00s R&B with modern K-Pop to create a delectable bop.

“Shh..” is a bit slower and bluesier than the aforementioned bangers but serves as an excellent palate cleanser ahead of the gorgeous, romantic ballad “Love Wins All.”

To close the album out, IU wraps things up with “I Stan U,” a cross between Sheryl Crow quirk and unforgettable Avril Lavigne grandiosity.

All in all, IU makes the most of “Love Wins All’s” short run time; by the time it’s over, you’ll want to hear it all over again.

Want to listen?

You can find “Love Wins All” here .

IU new Netflix movie

On top of the tour, IU is starring in the upcoming romantic Netflix K-drama ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines.’

The film, which co-stars Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, and Park Hae-joon, follows the remarkable rebel Ae-sun (IU) along with Gwan-sik who has been crushing on her since they were young.

As of now, there is no release date.

Money blog: What 2p cut to national insurance means for your take-home pay

Cutting national insurance 2p is worth almost £250 to someone earning £25,000 and £750 for those earning £50,000. Read this, the latest consumer news and build-up to Wednesday's budget below - and listen to a Daily podcast special on potential tax cuts as you scroll.

Tuesday 5 March 2024 12:36, UK

  • Jeremy Hunt to cut national insurance by 2p in tomorrow's budget
  • What would this mean for your pay packet?
  • If I was chancellor : Former BoE economist reveals what he'd do on Wednesday | Centre-right thinktank shares its view | Zoopla | Markets analyst

The chief executive of Marks & Spencer has described operating under the current government as "like running up a downwards escalator with a rucksack on your back".

Writing on his LinkedIn account, Stuart Machin appealed to the chancellor to take three steps to help the retail sector in tomorrow's budget, describing planned increases to business rates as "economically illiterate".

He argued the industry's tax burden was unfair at a time when consumer demand continues to be constrained by the cost of living crisis and tax rises risked stoking inflation through higher prices at the till.

Greggs says cost pressures are reducing, and it sees a clear opportunity for hundreds more UK shops ahead.

The company - best-known for its sausage rolls and steak bakes - made the announcements while revealing a leap in annual sales and profits.

China has set an ambitious growth target of around 5% for 2024 as it aims to boost its flagging economy.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang made the announcement at the opening of the country's annual meeting of the National People's Congress, in a speech that prioritised both security and the economy.

You can read more on this  here ...

Jeremy Hunt will cut national insurance by 2p during tomorrow's budget, Sky News understands.

The reduction will be the chancellor's central measure after he decided against cutting income tax.

According to The Times, Mr Hunt will say the decision will be worth a total of £900 for 27 million workers, taking into account the 2p cut announced in the autumn statement.

Earlier, we brought you analysis by AJ Bell that showed cutting the national insurance rate from 10% to 8% would be worth almost £250 to someone earning £25,000 a year and almost £750 for those earning £50,000. See the middle column here...

Sky News also understands that the 5p fuel duty cut will continue  - it was due to expire at the end of March.

We'll be  teaming up with the Politics Hub team to bring you live coverage of the budget before, during and after Jeremy Hunt stands up. The budget itself starts at 12.30pm - and we'll have a live Q&A on what it means for you from 3.30pm.

HSBC has announced it will increase all its fixed range products from tomorrow.

The banking giant has not said how much rates will go up by, but brokers have branded the move a "blow for borrowers".

Ranald Mitchell, director of Charwin Private Clients, said the rise will bring "more mortgage market misery" and dampen the hopes of millions of mortgage holders that this year will be better than the last.

"They are the latest lender to increase rates in what has now become an established upward trend," he told Newspage.

"After a scintillating start, 2024 is shaping up to be a repeat of 2023."

The HSBC announcement follows increases made by Barclays and NatWest last week.

Justin Moy, managing director at EHF Mortgages, explained that swap rates have continued to increase, suggesting there's not a lot for homeowners to look forward to in tomorrow's budget.

"Mortgage holders need a pick-me-up and the past six weeks or so certainly haven't provided it," he said.

If all of the above sounds gloomy, it should be noted that markets still expect a base rate cut from 5.25% to 5% in June.

Ahead of the budget on Wednesday, we've asked a selection of economists and experts what they'd do if they were chancellor. Here, Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at investment platform Hargreaves Lansdown, outlines what her plan would be. She writes...

The country is crying out for measures to unleash the entrepreneurial spirit Britain became famous for the world over.

Moves aimed at putting more money into punters' pockets to boost consumer spending won't provide the incentive to propel growth higher over the longer-term.

There's a risk that this short-term gain will come at the expense of longer-term pain for the economy, making the Bank of England's task of bringing down inflation that bit trickier.

Instead, investing in Britain for the long-term should be front and centre of the budget announcements.

Some changes to existing rules could go a long way to supporting this aim.

Halting planned cuts to dividend tax and capital gains tax thresholds would help support investors to make the most of their commitment to British firms and spur more activity among start-ups.

Cutting stamp duty on share purchases would also help ease the burden on investors.

Increasing the ISA allowance would automatically increase investment in the UK because there is a major home bias among ISA investors.

Investment in infrastructure will necessitate extra borrowing but would have a greater chance of boosting economic growth over the longer term, rather than a sweet rush of personal tax cuts.

By  James Sillars , business reporter

Energy and commodity stocks are leading the FTSE 100 down for a second day.

The index is 0.4% lower at 7,605.

Some of the decline is, ironically, linked to some good news as it reflects a decline in oil prices.

A barrel of Brent crude is more than a dollar down on where it stood this time yesterday.

Much of the fall has been attributed to China's economy, with the market appearing to dismiss the country's latest target for economic growth amid its series of headwinds.

They include the effects of the financial crisis in the retail estate sector and hits to manufacturing demand from slowing global output.

Greggs shares were among some of the early winners at the start of London trading.

They were up almost 3% as the food-on-the-go retailer revealed 13% growth in annual profits.

If you've noticed it's costing you more than usual to fill up your car at the pumps, here's why...

New data from RAC Fuel Watch shows drivers have endured the biggest monthly rise in fuel prices since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The average price of petrol rose by 4p a litre in February - adding more than £2 to the price of an average full tank - while diesel prices spiked by nearly 5p.

Rising oil prices - which topped $80 a barrel on 8 February and stayed at that level for the month - have contributed to the changes, according to the RAC. Retailers have also had to pay more for fuel on the wholesale market as the pound is only worth $1.26, it said.

Where you fill up matters

RAC's analysis of open data shows on average, you'll save just under 2p per litre when filling up a petrol car at one of the country's four big supermarkets (143p v 144.76p) - while for diesel drivers it's only 1p cheaper (152.1p v 153.22p).

There's also an 18p-per-litre difference between the supermarket forecourts selling the lowest and highest priced unleaded, both of which are Asda sites. For diesel, the gap between the cheapest and most expensive supermarket forecourts is greater at 21p.

The RAC has called the differences "frightening" and said it could mean the cost of filling a family-sized car can be up to £10 more expensive in one part of the country than another.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said drivers are enduring "some of the biggest monthly average fuel price increases since the year 2000".

An increase in profit margins means supermarkets are now taking 8p per litre on average, compared with 6p in 2019. This is down from 9.5p in the last two years, however.

This chart from RAC Fuel Watch shows how average fuel prices have looked over the past two decades, including during the year of Russia's invasion in 2022:

When is the budget?

The spring budget is tomorrow.

The budget is accompanied by economic and fiscal outlooks from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the independent public finances forecaster.

What time is the announcement?

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will deliver the budget statement in the House of Commons.

The announcement usually starts at 12.30pm - directly after Prime Minister's Questions - and lasts about an hour.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer will give his response as soon as the speech is over.

Before the announcement, the chancellor poses for the media with the red despatch box containing the budget papers.

How can I watch and follow the announcements?

You can follow all the key announcements in the Politics Hub  - with wider coverage of what it means for your pocket here in the Money blog.

You can also watch the event live on Sky News on Sky channel 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and on YouTube.

What is included in the budget?

The budget lays out the government's plans for raising and lowering taxes.

The chancellor will also speak on government plans for public spending, including on schools, health and defence.

The statement tends to start with a review of the nation's finances and its economic situation, moving on to the proposals for taxation.

There's been a lot of speculation over whether Jeremy Hunt could announce further tax cuts when he delivers his budget tomorrow.

The chancellor has told journalists in recent days that he has a "plan for growth" and wants to move towards a "lower tax economy" - hinting at a possible pre-election giveaway.

Among the changes being speculated on is another 1p or 2p cut to national insurance, just months after the rate was slashed from 12% to 10%.

Analysis by the investment platform AJ Bell reveals that cutting the NI rate to 9% would mean an annual saving of £124 for someone on £25,000, all the way up to a saving of £377 for anyone earning more than the £50,270 threshold.

A fall to 8% would be worth almost £250 to someone on £25,000, with a maximum saving of £754.

AJ Bell has also looked at what would happen if, rather than a cut, the thresholds at which you start paying were simply increased in line with inflation.

Remember, this six-year freezing, imposed by the government from 2022, has dragged Britons into paying substantially more tax - we'll hear more about that in the income tax section below.

Summarising what a NI cut would mean, AJ Bell's director of personal finance, Laura Suter, said: "The selling point of cutting national insurance is that it is more targeted at workers, as it isn't paid by those over state pension age.

"However, self-employed people are also still waiting for their previously announced cut to NI, due to come in in April, so another one so soon might feel premature."

What about income tax?

Changes to income tax have also been mooted as potential options for Mr Hunt's spring budget.

AJ Bell says frozen tax thresholds have done "serious damage" to people's finances while increasing the government's tax income.

Restoring increases to the thresholds would ensure people pay tax which aligns more with their income in light of recent wage inflation, it says.

Uprating tax thresholds by last year's inflation figure is the "most lucrative" option on the table for higher earners, according to its analysis.

For basic-rate taxpayers, a cut to 19% or 18% is the better option, with the former saving someone on a £35,000 salary around £224 a year, and the latter meaning a saving of almost £450.

Ahead of the budget on Wednesday, we've asked a selection of economists and experts what they'd do if they were chancellor. Here, Richard Donnell, executive director of research at Zoopla, outlines what he would do. He writes...

When it comes to housing, the chancellor's primary focus should be on boosting supply and mortgage availability.

There is also a case for some changes to stamp duty for first-time buyers. Stamp duty is a tax that generated £13bn in 2021-22 - yet half of purchasers don't pay it. It's a tax on buyers in London and the South East who pay over half the total.

The chancellor should make permanent the £625,000 threshold for first-time buyer relief from stamp duty. If this is reversed back to £500,000 in 2025 then 30% more first-time buyers will pay full stamp duty.

Meanwhile, the consensus is that the country needs more new homes. Supply has increased but this has stalled. There is a need for widespread reform of the planning system to encourage supply.

More funding is needed for social and affordable homes and housing infrastructure investment to unlock supply.

The government should look to use its guarantee to support the emergence of a long-term fixed-rate mortgage market to help more young people with smaller deposits access home ownership.

This problem is greatest in southern England where £50,000+ deposits are needed to buy.

Some "budget-friendly" insurance policies would not leave motorists covered for common claims such as a cracked windscreen, consumer champion Which? has warned.

Higher premiums have led drivers to turn to cheaper policies, but the small print should be thoroughly checked, the consumer champion said.

It looked at the cover of more than 60 policies offered by 28 insurers, including some basic products - finding some did not have cover for glass damage.

This would leave motorists with a potentially substantial bill despite it being a relatively standard claim.

Rocio Concha, Which? director of policy and advocacy, said: "You can't be on the road legally unless you have car insurance, but with premiums at eye-watering levels, many motorists are being pushed towards stripped-back policies.

"Concerningly, our research shows that some basic policies lack cover for common claims, meaning that a cracked windscreen could leave some drivers facing hefty repair bills they'd assumed the insurance would cover."

Buying Concert Tickets Online Is a Mess. 10 Tips for Grabbing the Seats You Want

As Swifties know only too well, buying tickets is complete chaos these days. Arm yourself with our advice.

Photo of Taylor Swift in concert

Getting tickets to a Taylor Swift concert proved to be a battle for many fans.

Live concerts are meant to be joyous, celebratory events. But buying tickets for those concerts has become an experience to dread, up there with a root canal. Your favorite artist is on tour, but can you get the right presale code to nab tickets before the good seats are gone? Or get any seats before the scalpers take most of them? Seemingly endless fees tacked on by the ticket sales companies only make things worse.

Now, some lawmakers are considering laws to make ticket-pricing transparent, to help buyers weary of concert-ticket sticker shock. The proposed law was inspired by Taylor Swift and the recent fiasco  involving sales to her Eras tour.

Even in a world with a myriad of music streaming services , the clamor for online tickets reveals that fans still love going to live shows. They're also excited for everything Taylor Swift, as shown by the recent furor about her attendance at Super Bowl LVIII , and over her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, which features four editions and three different bonus tracks . But when it comes to the actual ticket buying, it seems as if fans need an advanced degree just to land a pair of decent seats.

Change could be coming

Minnesota is one of the states that is considering a bill that would require ticket sellers to disclose the full price of a ticket, including fees, early in the online buying process. State Rep. Kelly Moller's bill  would also require resellers to reveal who they are, to prevent consumers from being fooled into thinking they're buying from the original seller, and require sellers to report when they detect ticket bots grabbing tickets for a show. No surprise, Moller has hard-won experience with these issues.

"The genesis of this bill was really my experience being a Swiftie and trying to get tickets to the Eras tour," Moller told the Minnesota House Judiciary Committee in February. The bill was passed by that committee and sent on to the House Commerce Committee.

The North Star State isn't alone. Current efforts to reform concert ticket sales at the state level follow earlier federal ones. In January 2023, the Senate held a hearing on Ticketmaster's dominance of the market, a session prompted by the chaos caused when Taylor Swift fans tried to buy presale tickets to the Eras tour in 2022.

Ticketmaster wasn't prepared for the demand and rescheduled the general sale date to handle it. Still, millions of fans didn't get tickets. The company later responded to  Beyoncé's concerns  that her Renaissance tour would face similar problems by staggering sales and adding a verification system.

"It's truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets," Swift said of her concert presale, "but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them."

It may not be as bad as an ursine mauling, but the ticket-buying process can be costly and frustrating if you don't know how it has changed over time.

But there are time-honored tips -- plus  lessons learned from Swift's Ticketmaster debacle -- to maximize the chances of scoring tickets to popular events. Here's a look at our top 10 tips.

1. Enter your details in advance

Set up a customer profile on the ticket site before the sale or presale date. By the time you can move tickets into your cart and purchase them, you're only going to have a few minutes to buy. Save time by entering your credit card in your profile in advance.

2. Look for presale codes

Your credit card may come with presale concert benefits -- some even grant access into special areas with amenities. Concert promoters advertise presale codes and giveaways on social media apps like Facebook and Instagram. Start by hitting up the website for your favorite act. Sign up for that artist's free newsletter or fan club in advance of the concert and then remember to check your email before tickets go on sale to see if they've sent out a presale code.

3. Check for early access packages

Some venues, like LA's  Hollywood Bowl , will bundle multiple concerts together for one price. In the Bowl's case, buying a package gives you the first shot at nabbing seats to some shows even before tickets are offered for presale. If it's too pricey to buy at this level, maybe you can sell some of the seats to your friends or through the official site or a second-party site.

4. Study the venue

You likely won't have time to dawdle over seat choice. But if you know, for instance, that the Super Seats section of the Hollywood Bowl is the only place outside of the box seats where you can actually sit in a backed seat instead of on a backless bench, you can hone in on that section while shopping.

There are a few ways to locate the best seats at a venue. Ask concert-going friends, search the web, even post in a music-themed social group. If the venue is small, try calling or emailing in advance to ask for recommendations.

5. Brace for dynamic pricing

On Ticketmaster, some tickets may use dynamic pricing, meaning ticket prices for those seats rise and fall due to demand. Think surge pricing with Uber and Lyft. Fans who tried to see Bruce Springsteen on tour in 2023 encountered ticket prices of up to $5,500, according to  The New York Times .

That's why certain tickets end up soaring into five figures on the resale market, as Madonna's shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City did in January. There's not really a way around it, but be aware.

6. Know your limits

Before you try to buy, make a reality check of your budget. Otherwise, you risk getting caught up in the heat of the moment and you could fall prey to that dynamic pricing. Large sites also have ticket limits that vary by show, so be warned: You may be needing four tickets and come up against a limit of two.

7. Set alarms

Use your phone to set at least two alarms: one 15 minutes or more before the sale starts and another a minute before go time. Some events generate waiting rooms that you can hop in more than a few minutes early, while others won't put you in a queue until the official kickoff. However early you get ready, just make sure you're only one click away from the sale page.

8. Team up and try multiple sites

Ticketmaster wasn't the only game in town for some stops on the Eras tour. SeatGeek also listed first-sale tickets to a handful of shows. Check the artist's social media to see if their concert tickets are sold on multiple sites. Increase your odds of getting tickets by partnering with a friend to try to buy at the same time.

9. Have a backup plan

Consider selecting a backup date in another city if you've got the means and can't get tickets to your first choice.

10. Go offline

Tickets are sometimes released and sold at a venue's box office on event day, so consider showing up in person to check. Other IRL options include ticket contests held by local television or radio stations. You never know -- these days, your odds of winning may be better than they ever were for buying online.
