Zoo Field Trip Worksheet

Educational Zoo Field Trip Packet for Teachers, Home schoolers and Families!!  Whether you are going to the zoo with your family, friends, homeschooling group or school field trip, this packet will bring smiles to your students and children as they explore a day at the zoo.  I was driving in my car one day and I had some ideas that came to me about an upcoming zoo trip my family and I were taking with some friends.  I began to put together some really fun worksheets that have been tried and tested by my own kids!  I created 16 different animal worksheets that include a tracing animal name, an artist sketch box and some fun questions that the kids can answer as they learn more about each animal.  It is perfect for preschoolers through 2nd grade, but even my 5th grader had fun filling out the worksheets!

All you have to do is purchase the digital files for just $3 and print them on regular paper in color or set your printer to black and white.  Cut the pages in half and attach them to a small clipboard.  With a pencil in hand the kids are ready to explore the different animals found in the zoo!  It really was fun to see an idea form and then to experiment with it as I saw my kids spend a little more time looking at the animals and noticing more about them then just running from one animal to another.  The packet also includes 4 different bingo cards where the kids can cross off the animals as they find them.

To motivate your little ones to work on this fun packet, give them a small prize at the end.  A small animal toy that you can pick up at the dollar store or some animal crackers when they turn in their finished bingo and worksheets!  Here’s a sample of what is up for sale today for just $3.

Purchase the “Zippity Zoo Packet” for just $3 from our Etsy Shop .

Now, for your freebie!  Download these two free Zippity Zoo Graphing worksheets!!  Don’t forget to purchase the packet and then use these great graphing pages to extend the child’s learning as you review with them the animals they saw at the zoo.  They can be filled out at home or in the classroom.

We would LOVE to have you Pin this post to your Pinterest boards so that others can enjoy these great freebies too!

Zoo Field Trip Printables

All Freebies · PK-2

Our class studies zoo animals in the spring. As part of the study, our first graders go on a field trip to the zoo. We spend the entire day there. The field trip is always a first grade favorite. I created these zoo animal printables so the students could share about their favorite zoo animals.

Zoo Field Trip Activities

classroom management , Science , Spring

Are you going on a zoo field trip? Spring is a great time to visit the zoo- the weather is starting to warm up and the school year is beginning to wind down. Here are some fun zoo field trip activities to do with your class before, during, and after the trip.

Before Your Zoo Field Trip

Create reminder bracelets for students to wear home..

You’ve likely sent TONS of emails, notes, and reminders about the field trip- send one more! Have students create a bracelet that reminds parents the field trip is tomorrow! This makes a great end of the day activity. Let students spend a few minutes coloring the bracelet and then tape them to their wrists.

Students color and wear home a bracelet reminder about the zoo field trip.

Write about an animal they want to see on the zoo field trip.

Use this activity with your students the day before or even the morning of the trip. Have students draw a picture of an animal they want to see at the zoo and write about the animal. They could write facts about the animal, or why they love that animal.

Writing project about an animal children want to see at the zoo.

Draw animals in their enclosures.

This activity is GREAT for the morning of the field trip. Field trip days are hectic! Let students complete this fun worksheet while you are busy greeting volunteers, packing coolers, and making sure everyone and everything is ready to go!

During the Zoo Field Trip

Hopefully you have some volunteers attending the field trip with you! I like to pack a large manila envelope for each volunteers’ group with some activities and supplies. Include items like a double-sided worksheet, pencils, a few crayons, and some bandages. Then I add a schedule and important information on the outside of the envelope.

Volunteer packet for zoo field trip.

Over the years, I found it was important for students to have a task or two to complete while they are on the trip. Otherwise, students would quickly “run” through the zoo (our zoo isn’t huge) and not spend much time with the animals.

Zoo Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a fun way to keep students engaged! Have students see how many of the animals they can find at the zoo and check them off or color the animal pictures as they find them.

Observing Animals

We spend a lot of time teaching our students how scientists observe the world! The zoo is the perfect opportunity to practice their observation skills.

Students observe and draw animals at the zoo.

Students will watch for certain animal behaviors such as eating, sleeping, and playing. Students can draw and/or write about the animals they observed displaying these behaviors.

Reading About the Animals

Zoos are full of signs and graphics that give more information about the animals! Often, we quickly pass by this information and miss an opportunity for deeper learning. Have students spend some time reading about the animals. Then have students choose one animal to observe and write 3 facts they learned about that animal.

After the Zoo Field Trip

Your students will likely be TIRED after the field trip! A fun craftivity is the perfect way to end the day. It gives students an opportunity to reflect on their learning for the day and have a little downtime as well.

Flip book project about the zoo field trip.

This project is a great way to end the day. Students fold the booklet and write about their trip. Students choose one of the nine animal toppers to color and add to the project. Hang the projects on a bulletin board or create a hall display!

You can find all of these activities, plus planning resources in my Zoo Field Trip packet!

Did you know that you can count your field trips as school hours or a even a full school day? I like to keep track of all of our trips with a homeschool field trip log and keep them in each student’s portfolio.

zoo field trip worksheet free

We like to track all of our field trips and add them to our end of the year portfolio. Not only does it document what we have learned it is fun to look back on and see the places we have gone. Then it becomes a scrapbook of sort.

I like to include any pamphlets, maps or educational handouts that we received at our field trips. This really helps add to the learning experience of the field trip.

Field trips enhance learning.

Field trips are amazing learning experiences. I enjoy finding field trips that accompany whatever we are studying in our homeschool. I make a point to make sure I plan a few learning field trips throughout the year that go with what we are learning.

It helps to make learning come alive for my kids. My older kids have fond memories of visiting historical sites, museums, zoos, even our local fire station. They learn so much when they can be immersed into a specific place or location.

Their senses are enhanced and they seem to soak up all of the information and retain it. I love watching their brains click when they can see something right before their eyes that we read in a book

Printable Homeschool Field Trip Logs:

If you are wanting to start tracking your field trips you must check out this list of field trip logs.
