This Magic Bullet Blender Is on Sale for Only $36

Portrait of Emma Wartzman

A blender is an indispensable tool in the kitchen. It purées vegetables into soup, crushes nuts into butter, whirs dressings and sauces into silky emulsifications, chops ingredients into salsas, and, of course, makes smoothies.

But sometimes you simply don’t have the room for a full-size machine. Enter this personal-sized Magic Bullet Blender, which is currently on sale for 28 percent off, making it a sweet $36. It can handle nearly all of the same tasks as a bigger blender, just without taking up as much counter space (which, for the record, makes not only storing it easier but cleaning it, too). The appliance comes with several jar options: a tall one, a short one, and one with a handle. Plus each of those have mix-and-match lids — two that cover the entire top for when you make something you want to keep in the fridge and one with a retractable sip hole so you can take your drink on the go.

ALL NEW 36

WELCOME TO THE CORONATION. THE UNDISPUTED ALL-MOUNTAIN CHAMPION GETS A NEW CROWN.

For MY23 the FOX 36 receives an update in the form of a new crown with updated design and engineering for more steer tube overlap improving durability and maintaining stiffness while dropping 20 grams.

LIGHTER SMOOTHER STIFFER MORE TUNABLE

Crown

Lighter by 20 grams, while increasing steerer-tube overlap at the CSU, the new crown design improves durability while our engineering maintains stiffness and drops weight.

36 & 38 Floating Axle

KABOLT X AXLE

Kabolt X, a lightweight bolt-on floating axle to shave grams and increase torsional stiffness via a sleeveless, single-sided pinch bolt design.

Lower Leg Channels

LOWER LEG BYPASS CHANNELS

Increasing air volume within the lower legs reduces the amount of additional unintended pressure ramping. Lower leg bath oil also circulates to the upper reaches of the legs, continuously lubricating the foam rings and bushings as the fork compresses and extends through its travel.

Bleeders

LOWER LEG BLEEDERS

Allows for atmospheric pressure equalization for better fork performance, allowing full travel to be achieved and increasing small bump sensitivity and responsiveness.

Lower Leg Arch

LOWER LEG ARCH

Our new lower leg design pulls out all the stops, shaving every possible gram while making sure not to compromise stiffness or strength requirements of modern enduro and gravity-style riding.

MORE TUNABLE

GRIP2

Unparalleled ride quality and ultra-precise adjustability. Allows for external fine-tuning of suspension performance thanks to our patented Variable Valve Control (VVC) technology.

FLOAT EVOL

Optimizes small bump sensitivity by increasing negative air spring volume. Its linear spring curve delivers plushness off the top, extra mid-stroke support, and more tunable bottom-out progression.

10 Reasons You Should Take This Route Instead Of I-70 Through Kansas

Interstates are convenient and fast, but did you know U.S. highways often offer the same convenience and speed but with an opportunity to slow down? A perfect example is U.S. Route 36 through Kansas, which is a fantastic alternative to Interstate 70.

There are fewer than 10 stoplights on U.S. Route 36 (commonly referred to as Highway 36) through Kansas, making it a speedy option for travel across the wide state. The small towns that you travel through will greet you with a smile and an opportunity to experience things that you will not find anywhere else.

Here are some of the best reasons you should take Highway 36 instead of I-70 through Kansas, heading east to west.

Note: I toured this route as a guest of the US 36 Highway Association in April 2022. All opinions are my own.

1. The Seneca Hand Dug Well

Seneca, kansas.

With more than 130,000 bricks, 100 cords of stone, 570 barrels of cement, and 20,000 feet of lumber, this masterpiece is just over an hour into Kansas heading west on Highway 36.

The second-largest hand-dug well in the state of Kansas , the Seneca Hand Dug Well, is 34 feet wide and 65 feet deep. In 2006, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The well stopped being used in 1937, and since then, two new wells have been dug, along with a million-gallon reservoir near Seneca.

There is free parking close to the site, making it accessible for everyone to see this masterpiece up close. Tours are available by appointment, by calling (785) 336-2294. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the view of the well from one of the picnic tables nearby.

2. The Pony Express Route

Marysville, kansas.

In the 1860s, mail carriers hopped on horses to deliver mail using a relay-style system. This service was called the Pony Express. From April 1860 to October 1861, this short-lived mail service had a route in Kansas. When you travel Highway 36 in eastern Kansas, you will travel the exact route that the horse riders took.

Visit the Pony Express Museum & Barn in Marysville. You will see saddles, wagons, and all sorts of tools that were used during the era of the Pony Express Route. There is a small fee to visit, and the main level of the museum is wheelchair accessible.

High Banks Museum- Belleville

3. High Banks Hall Of Fame And National Midget Auto Racing Museum

Belleville, kansas.

Belleville, Kansas, is home to one of the most unique museums that I have visited. The High Banks Hall of Fame & National Midget Auto Racing Museum will inspire you to attend an auto race. If you are not a car enthusiast, still give this museum a chance. You will be excited by something or someone when you visit this museum in Belleville.

Showcased at this museum are NASCAR’s first official trophy and 1949 midget cars, which are small racecars with a massive power-to-weight ratio. You can also see spring cars, micro midget cars, Indy cars, modifieds, and more.

Donations are accepted, and you can plan to spend a minimum of 1 hour gazing at these beautiful cars.

Pro Tip: After your visit to this fun car museum, drive to the Belleville High Banks Speedway Fairgrounds to see where these cars have raced.

4. Dine At Sweden Creme

Mankato, kansas.

Sweden Creme sits right on Highway 36 in Mankato, Kansas. The restaurant is known for its burgers and ice cream.

The day I visited, the restaurant was packed with people enjoying Sweden Creme’s famous burgers. I ordered a burger, and I can attest that it was one of the best burgers I have indulged in while in Kansas. My ice cream dessert arrived, and it was just as good as the burger — over the top.

Rumor has it that people will travel hours to enjoy a meal at Sweden Creme. After dining here, I understand why people will make the trek. If a fat, juicy burger calls your name, start mapping your route to Mankato, Kansas.

5. Geographic Center Of The United States

Lebanon, kansas.

The geographic center of the United States sits near Lebanon, Kansas. You will drive on a few miles of gravel to get to this site. Sign the guest register and visit the roadside chapel. I have always enjoyed visiting this site early in the day. When you turn to face east, away from the geographic center, the view down the gravel road that you traveled is a memorable one. There is ample parking, and there is no fee to visit.

You may recall seeing this site in a Super Bowl commercial that Bruce Springsteen starred in.

Home on the Range Cabin in Athol, Kansas.

6. Home On The Range Cabin

Athol, kansas.

You will see signage along Route 36 for the famous Home on the Range Cabin , officially named the Higley Cabin. Dr. Brewster M. Higley penned the song Home on the Range . Soon after his election, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared Home on the Range his favorite song, which brought national attention to the tune. In 1947, Home of the Range became the official song of the state of Kansas.

As you stroll the grounds near the Home on the Range Cabin, there’s a spirit that you will feel. I felt as though I had been lured into a different place in time. It was calming, and yet exciting. There is no fee to visit the site, and there is plenty of parking.

Springtime brings an annual town celebration to raise funds to keep the grounds clean and welcoming to all visitors. Around town, there are sports tournaments, panels with athletes, and more.

7. Destination Kitchen

Norton, kansas.

Destination Kitchen is a must see when you are in Norton, Kansas. This charming shop will win you over as soon as you set foot in the door.

Destination Kitchen carries bakeware, cookware, tableware, and anything and everything you need to make your kitchen a success. Their baked goods are fantastic to grab in the morning. They also serve lunch Monday through Saturday. For a quick sit-down lunch, grab an individual brick-oven pizza with a plate from their fresh salad bar. You can plan on spending 2 full hours in this fun shop.

Bread pudding at the Landmark Inn in Oberlin, Kansas.

8. Landmark Inn

Oberlin, kansas.

One stop with three different experiences await you at the Landmark Inn. The Landmark Inn in Oberlin, Kansas , offers a mercantile, bed and breakfast, and a restaurant on site. Reserve your night’s stay at this classic 1886 Bank of Oberlin building.

The Landmark Inn has been noted as one of Kansas’s most romantic places to stay. With several rooms to choose from, your stay will most likely be one of the most memorable in your lifetime.

Before you check out of your room, swing through the mercantile. You will find scarves, jewelry, and boutique items.

I am a bread pudding connoisseur, and the Landmark Inn’s restaurant had some of the best bread pudding that I have ever had. The menu in the restaurant frequently changes, which gives you a reason to visit time and time again.

9. Decatur County’s Last Indian Raid Museum

A museum that you do not want to miss while traveling Route 36 is Decatur County’s Last Indian Raid Museum .

With more than 15 well-kept buildings, 13 of which are original buildings from 1885 to 1952, this museum is one of the most organized museums I have visited. The museum covers a Native American raid from 1887, along with other battles and skirmishes in town. Visitors will learn about “Wild Bill” Hickok, buffalo hunters, and the life of the homesteaders in the 1800s.

The museum is wheelchair accessible, with guided and self-guided tours available. If you have any questions while visiting, the helpful staff will be happy to assist you. A small fee is collected at the door.

10. St. Francis Motorcycle Museum

St. francis, kansas.

The St. Francis Motorcycle Museum in St. Francis, Kansas, is home to nearly 150 vintage motorcycles from more than 40 manufacturers. The motorcycles are spread out on 10,000 square feet in the museum. You can be up close with all of them. I am not a motorcyclist, but I find myself stopping at this museum when I’m in the western part of Kansas.

They are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Donations are accepted at the door, with a suggested $7 entry fee. The volunteers will greet you with a smile and are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Highway 36 Has It All

This is a glimpse of what you can experience while traveling this alternate route through Kansas. Depending on your time schedule and budget, you can spend as little or as much time as you want at each location. Each of the above stops offers hours of enjoyment.

You will also find several parks that feature hiking, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing while traveling this route. Several of these parks offer lodging, and many of the towns along Highway 36 also offer lodging that is unique to the area. If you know that you will be in an area for an extended period of time, book your lodging ahead of time.

Travel at a pace that you enjoy and savor every moment of your road trip. After all, when was the last time that you traveled hundreds of miles on a U.S. highway that didn’t have dozens of stoplights along the route?

Passengers wearing this colour on a flight get better treatment, say travel experts

Upgrade your wardrobe: Could a splash of colour or the right outfit get you into a snazzier seat? Photo / 123 RF

It is a bold claim. While passengers have long been up-dressing in the hope of an upgrade, can wearing a particular shade or colour get you better treatment when you fly?

According to several travel experts and airline workers, you can get a lot of mileage out of wearing something red.

Psychologists have discussed something called “the red dress effect” for years. The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology reported that models were rated one to 1.5 points higher on a nine-point scale of attractiveness when wearing red.

It seems that it works just as well at 9.1km (30,000ft).

The effect is not restricted to sexy red dresses, the University of Rochester’s Adam Pazda told the journal Science . The study shows a red T-shirt, or even a tiny pop of colour in a lapel or lining, can have the same result.

Although the University of Munich suggested more research was needed to show that it was an evolutionary not just a cultural phenomenon, the fact that it appears to work on international airlines around the world may suggest it is hard-wired.

Men were also more receptive to the colour red than women.

This is not to claim that your scarlet maxi dress or burgundy blazer is going to get you an upgrade. You can’t “red pill” your way into business class, but it can definitely help you stand out from the crowd.

How does wearing red affect your chances of an upgrade?

It’s no surprise that red is the most common colour used in airline uniforms and on airline livery.

Flashes of “Safety Red” are reportedly designed into uniforms to grab passenger’s attention for safety announcements.

The former flight attendant and author of Cruising Attitude, Heather Poole, claimed that bright red lipstick was instructed in the Crew Look Books of Qantas to Emirates “so passengers can read your lips during an emergency,” she told Escape .

Airbus and the German Aerospace Centre have invested in studies of the “influence of coloured light in the aircraft cabin on passenger comfort” - with passengers found to be more alert and cabin air perceived to be fresher under blue light.

But how can wearing red help you get the good seats? There’s a lot less aerospace R&D on this subject. Though, plenty of stylists and fashion experts will advise you that a minimal amount of effort can help travellers go a long way.

Red is an important colour for airlines and cabin crew.

What is the best outfit for aeroplane travel?

Auckland-based stylist, with a degree in psychology, Caitlin Taylor says that colour theory is not the pseudo-science others paint it to be.

Although there is plenty of evidence that the colours we wear affect the way others see us, she says they do a lot more to regulate our own feelings and the way we see ourselves. The phenomenon of “dopamine dressing” has proven the right clothes can be a mood booster for her clients.

“Red is generally known to portray a sense of confidence,” she says.

“So perhaps you could argue that by wearing red, you portray yourself with more confidence and authority internally, and people respond to that confidence by treating you.”

Dressing the part definitely will help cut through any woolly excuses from customer service about where your misplaced luggage is. Especially when they guess how expensive your wardrobe would be to replace.

What about colours to avoid when travelling? That’s a far more practical issue says Taylor.

“As much as I love white, that’s the only colour I’d avoid on travel,” she says. Simply because it’s the one that will show the toll of long-haul and hide stains the worst.

The idea of dressing in all black or wearing business attire to try and bag a business upgrade might be a false economy.

“I think we assume that comfort and style are mutually exclusive, but you’ll find a bright pink jumper just as comfortable as a black one,” says Taylor.

Wearing “fun, bright colours” like you’re going on a tropical holiday is likely to make you appear happier and more approachable.

In an era when airlines have uniformly opted for a “relaxed, no-dress code” approach to travel and it is acceptable to check in wearing pyjamas, some passengers are starting to hack the system. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be top of mind when crew are allocating seats or any other perks. Perhaps a splash of colour could be all it takes.

These Arizona airports are getting $37M for terminal upgrades. Here's what's coming

36 travel

Two Arizona airports will receive nearly $37 million in the latest round of grant funding from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will receive $36 million from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminal Program for upgrades at its central utility plant in Terminal 4, which will improve air conditioning at the airport.

Yuma International Airport will receive $950,000 to upgrade its security camera system.

The infrastructure improvements in Arizona are part of $970 million in Airport Terminal Program grants that the FAA is distributing to 114 airports nationwide.

"Under this administration, we are doing more to improve the travel experience than ever before, from expanding consumer protections to modernizing the physical infrastructure," U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement on Thursday.

Where to fly: All the new flights coming to Phoenix Sky Harbor in 2024

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport: $36 million for utility upgrades

Sky Harbor's $36 million grant will help replace equipment that provides cooling to Terminal 4's main building, eight concourses and connector bridges, airport spokesman Eric Everts said. Other replacement components include chillers, water filtration, and cooling towers.

The work is part of the Phoenix airport's 30-year-old Central Utility Plant upgrade in Terminal 4. City documents showed the work is needed because some components of the plant's cooling infrastructure are outdated and costly to operate, while others are obsolete or no longer have replacement parts available.

"Cooling system technology has improved tremendously in the last 35 years to be more efficient and cost-effective," Everts said. "While the airport employs a robust preventative maintenance program, the system needs to be replaced to ensure long-term viability of the facility for passengers, employees, airlines and other business partners."

Once completed, the upgrades will improve cooling in Terminal 4, reduce emissions, conserve energy and water and lower the cost of operating and maintaining the utility plant, Everts said.

Phoenix city staff expect these upgrades will cost $84 million, documents showed.

The utility plant project is part of a $500 million refresh of Terminal 4. Chad Makovsky, Phoenix's director of aviation services, shared details of the work and disclosed applying for the grant funding in a recent interview with The Arizona Republic .

While this is Sky Harbor's first project to receive Airport Terminal Program funding, it's not the first to receive a grant funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The $260 million construction of a new taxiway connecting the north and south airfields will receive $194 million in federal funding over five years.

"This funding confirms our commitment to providing the best, most comfortable experience for visitors to Phoenix, while meeting our ambitious sustainability goals," Rep. Greg Stanton said in a statement.

Yuma airport: $950,000 for security system upgrades

Yuma International Airport's $950,000 grant will support upgrades and replacements of equipment at high-security requirement locations.

That includes cameras, access readers, fiber optics, data switches and hardware.

Upgrades will improve the airport's ability to detect potential threats against people, property and aircraft, according to the FAA.

"This grant funding is important to ensure the safety and security of our airport and airfield," Yuma International Airport Director Gladys Brown said.

This is the Yuma airport's second Airport Terminal Program grant. It received $1.1 million in 2023 to replace 20-year-old flooring with terrazzo floors.

Best Travel Trailer For Full-Time Living

8 Best RV Travel Trailers for Full-Time RV Living Adventure in 2024

Aaron Richardson

  • Last Updated: February 25, 2024
  • 25 minutes read

Selecting the right travel trailer for full-time living can be an overwhelming decision.

Yet, after rigorously testing over thirty models myself, focusing on comfort, durability, and practicality, I’ve come to find that not all RVs are cut out for the lifestyle.

Finding an RV that can truly be called a home is key for those looking to transition into full-time RV living .

Some crucial factors include space, amenities, and how well they can support the everyday needs of full-time dwellers, from solo adventurers to families .

Out of the many I explored, the Winnebago – Micro Minnie 2108DS stood out for its exceptional balance of comfort, functionality, and mobility, making it my top pick for the best overall travel trailer for this purpose.

It’s a prime example of how a thoughtful layout and design can make a space feel like a true home on wheels.

Based on my experience, the top travel trailers for full-time living are:

  • Winnebago – Micro Minnie 2108DS : Best overall for full-time living with its compact efficiency.
  • Grand Design – Imagine XLS 22RBE : Great for couples seeking comfort and luxury on the road.
  • Coachmen – Apex 284BHSS : Ideal for families, offering spacious living and sleeping areas.
  • Airstream – Flying Cloud 30FB Office : Perfect for remote workers, featuring a dedicated office space.
  • Palomino – Solaire 320 TSBH : Top choice for entertainment, featuring multiple TVs and spacious seating areas.
  • Coachmen – Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS : Excellent for larger families, with generous living spaces and multiple bedrooms.
  • Forest River – Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10 Toy Hauler Travel Trailer : Best for adventure lovers, with ample storage for outdoor gear.
  • Jayco – Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS Destination Travel Trailer : A fantastic option for those preferring stationary living with the comforts of a full-size home.

What to Look for in a Travel Trailer for Full-Time Living

What To Look For In A Travel Trailer For Full-Time Living

Your preferred travel and lifestyle are going to be the biggest factor that determines the features you prioritize in a travel trailer for full-time living.

When shopping for the model that suits your family best, consider the following factors.

Where You Will Stay

Are you the type of person/family that likes to stay in well-appointed RV parks with tons of resources available, or do you love to boondock off the grid for several days at a time.

If you do love to dry camp, then you’ll want to prioritize a travel trailer with large waste and fresh water storage tanks.

You might want to also move things like a generator or solar panels higher up your list of priorities as well.

Size & Floorplan

What this ultimately comes down to is just how many people will be living full-time in the travel trailer.

If it’s just you enjoying the open road with perhaps a four-legged best friend for companionship, you might lean more toward a travel trailer that’s under 20 feet long, and has one very well-decked-out master suite.

On the other end of the spectrum, a traveling family with two small children might prioritize a travel trailer over 25 feet with a master suite in the front, bunk beds in the back, and a large dinette area for mealtimes.

Power slide-outs can also buy you more precious interior living space as well.

Length of Stay

Just how long you will stay in one spot might also be a factor. If you will be moving around every week or two, then a travel trailer that hooks up easily and deploys an awning with ease might be a preference.

If you are planning to set up camp and put your feet up for months at a time at the family lake lot, then a destination travel trailer that steps out onto a prepared deck space might top your priority list.

Where You’ll Be Staying & HVAC

If you plan to live in the sunbelt 12-months out of the year, then a travel trailer with a robust rooftop air conditioner will be a priority.

If you are a tradesman who lives in his travel trailer on remote job sites during the summer but wants to live on the ice fishing all winter, then insulation and a powerful furnace will top your list.

Payload Cargo Capacity

Since you will be living in it full time, you will likely need to haul more gear and personal effects to maintain your preferred lifestyle full time.

To spare you from living a Spartan existence, you might want to prioritize travel trailers with an above-average payload or cargo capacity.

If you are going to be towing your full-time travel trailer a lot, then you want to put extra scrutiny into the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) compared to the maximum towing capacity of your intended tow vehicle.

Ideally, you want the GVWR to be 80% or less than the pickup truck’s GVWR to keep from constantly straining the tow vehicle with all the journey’s from Point A to Point B and Point C.

The gross weight becomes less of a factor if you are going to do something like park a travel trailer at the family lake lot and leave it there year-round.

Key Travel Trailer Appliances for Full-Time Living

Key Travel Trailer Appliances For Full-Time Living

People who live full-time in their travel trailers tend to place a higher priority on certain appliances compared to people who just want to camp in their travel trailers.

This makes appliance choices their own separate category to factor into your traveling lifestyle.

Washer & Dryer Prep

Most people who live in their travel trailer full time bemoan having to take time out to sit in a laundromat.

If this sounds like you, then you might want to prioritize a model that either has a washer & dryer included in the purchase or comes prepped to have one installed.

In the same vein as laundry, washing the dishes can be a real pain. Especially if you fall in love with a travel trailer that has a small sink or a single basin sink in the kitchen.

A high-efficiency dishwasher will use only a small amount of water while cleaning the dishes and sparing you a lot of elbow grease.

It also frees up precious counter space that might otherwise be lost to an unsightly dish drainer.

Large House Batteries

If you are going to be staying off the grid for even a short amount of time, you will likely need to rely heavily on your RV’s house batteries.

A larger battery bank will hold more charge, while also giving you the opportunity to parallel wire them for a longer run time between recharging.

Generator Prep

While most travel trailers don’t come with a built-in generator, there is a fair number that does .

This is a great way to power your travel trailer when you are camping off the grid, or simply staying at an RV park that doesn’t have compatible shore power available.

Optional Solar Power

Solar panels are a great way to recharge or maintain the charge on house batteries.

They can also be a great way to save money on the cost of electricity when you are at a campsite that offers shore power.

You ultimately end up paying far less per unit for solar in the long run than you pay per unit when plugged into an RV park’s resources.

  • 18,000 BTU heater

Winnebago is one of the most popular RV manufacturers of all time, and the Minnie travel trailer is one of their most popular platforms.

So, it only stands to reason that they would make a model that is geared toward an individual or couple who loves full-timing like you see with the Winnebago – Micro Minnie 2108DS.

With an MSRP of around $31,000, it is one of the most affordable options on this list. This makes for easy financing.

Its overall popularity also means that dealerships are likely to have a wide range of optional upgrades for you to customize the creature comforts to your travel style.

The interior of the Winnebago – Micro Minnie 2108DS has a sofa that converts into a queen-size murphy bed with his and hers wardrobes on each side.

This gives you a couch to lounge on during the day and a bed, all in the same area to save space.

If one of you wants to stay up late, there’s a privacy curtain that can be drawn to enclose the front master suite.

In the back, you will find a spacious full-size bathroom to meet all your full-timing needs. The shower is separated from the toilet and the rest of the bathroom to give you a true dry bath.

The towing statistics are another nice thing to appreciate about the Winnebago – Micro Minnie 2108DS.

It has a dry weight of 4,140-pounds, which is well within the range of what a robust mid-size SUV with a towing package can handle. This saves you having to invest in a half-ton truck tow vehicle.

Just keep in mind that the Minnie’s massive cargo capacity means that you can potentially stuff it with so much gear that it will tip the scales with a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of up to 7,000-pounds.

So, keep your equipment and packing style in mind when you are choosing the right tow vehicle to pair this travel trailer with.

2. Grand Design – Imagine XLS 22RBE

Grand Design Imagine XLS 22RBE

  • MSRP around $30,000
  • Length of 25.92 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 5,125 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,870 lbs.
  • GVWR of 6,995 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 497 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 43.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 82.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 37.0 gallons
  • 25,000 BTU heater
  • 18 Gallon Water Heater
  • Four Season Protection Package

The MSRP of $30,000 for the Grand Design – Imagine XLS 22RBE is just one of the many impressive factors that make this travel trailer a good choice for full-time living..

With a gross vehicle weight rating of under 7,000-pounds, it is comfortably towable by a half-ton pickup truck or a full-size SUV.

The floorplan is also very appealing for a single person or a couple who wants to live in their travel trailer full-time.

One of the major things that jump off the page with the Grand Design Imagine XLS is the Four Season Protection Package.

This makes it one of the best travel trailers for full-time living for a couple or a small family that needs to handle everything the four seasons can throw at them.

It includes key features like an upgraded 25,000 BTU High-Capacity Furnace, Heated & Enclosed Underbelly with Suspended Tanks to prevent freeze-ups, as well as a heat ducted floor and residential grade ventilation system throughout. Even the roof and front cap offer superior R-40 insulation.

When you take a closer look at the interior layout you find a queen-size master suite in that well-insulated front nose cap to keep you and perhaps a spouse toasty warm on a cold winter night.

A single power slide-out section expands the available floor space in the open concept living area to give you a truly homey feel.

The exterior of the Grand Design Imagine XLS also has a lot of the touches that help transform a travel trailer into a home.

The 18-foot awning expands to give you an outdoor porch area with plenty of elbow room.

There’s also an unobstructed pass-thru storage bin to let you conveniently stow all your outdoor gear, to keep from tracking dirty inside.

There’s even an LP quick connect for your favorite gas grill and a retractable spray nozzle hose to rinse off the dog.

These exterior creature comforts go a long way toward feeling like you are “Living” instead of “Camping.”

3. Coachmen Apex 284BHSS

Coachmen Apex 284BHSS

  • MSRP around $50,000
  • Length of 32.58 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 6,022 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,578 lbs.
  • GVWR of 7,600 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 810 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 50.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 70.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 35.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 10 people

With its queen-size master suite in the front, bunk beds in the back, and a ton of creature comforts the Coachmen – Apex 284BHSS is one of the best travel trailers for full-time living to meet a family’s needs.

The bunk beds in the back are great for school-age children, but also big enough to accommodate a teenager’s needs and give them a place to feel is truly their own.

The MSRP of the Coachmen – Apex 284BHSS ranges around $50,000, though there are a fair number of national dealerships who are willing to offer promotional sales, or will wrap optional extra’s into the initial purchase price.

It’s when you turn your eye to the weight and storage statistics that things start to get interesting with this full-time-capable travel trailer.

With a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,600-pounds, it is comfortably within the range of what you can pull with a half-ton pickup truck or a full-size SUV.

This spares you from having to invest in a larger vehicle to tow it, which makes it appealing to traveling families who are on the go.

The large power slide-out section of the Coachmen – Apex 284BHSS gives it a lot of interior living space.

It gives you enough elbow room to let everyone feel like they have their own area.

It also makes the most out of the open concept living room and kitchen combo to feel like a real “Home.” The bathroom in the back even has a basin deep enough to bathe a young child.

If there is a minor complaint about this family-friendly travel trailer for full-time living it’s the lack of any sort of washer & dryer prep.

If you are okay with spending a few extra hours each week at a laundromat, this isn’t a big deal.

4. Airstream – Flying Cloud 30FB Office

Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Office

  • MSRP around $110,000
  • Length of 30.83 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 6,757 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 2,043 lbs.
  • GVWR of 8,800 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 903 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 52.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 41.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 6 people
  • 28,500 BTU Air Conditioner
  • 30,000 BTU heater
  • Tankless Water Heater

Airstream is the classic American travel trailer, and one of the most popular travel trailer brands embraced by full-timers of yesteryear as well as today.

The problem is that their “Classic” model tends to have a price tag based on brand recognition, while also feeling like they skimped a little on modern amenities to preserve that “Classic” feel.

That is where the Flying Cloud travel trailer comes perfectly into play. It has all the look and feels of a Classic Airstream travel trailer, though it carries a price tag of around $110,000 instead of $160,000.

There are 15 different floorplans available, though we chose the Airstream – Flying Cloud 30FB Office for its ability to appeal to a traveling tradesmen, or a job site supervisor who needs to stay in comfort while living on a remote job site.

When you look at it from the outside, you will see all the signature gleam and aerodynamic shapes of a classic Airstream travel trailer.

When you step on the inside, you find a modernized travel trailer with a lot of creature comforts and innovation.

This includes things like a tankless water heater for on-demand hot water, a large bathroom, and a lounge area that separates itself from the front bedroom.

In the back, there is also a small, yet functional office. It’s the perfect place for a foreman or job site supervisor to take care of the paperwork and keep important documents in one orderly place.

When it comes to the towing statistics, the GVWR of 8,800-pounds and the heavy Hitch Weight of 903-pounds means that the Airstream – Flying Cloud 30FB Office is better suited to being towed by a three-quarter or one-ton pickup truck.

This is the typical pickup truck you see a lot of “Bosses” having at construction sites, to begin with.

Though it might put this travel trailer out of your range if you already have a half-ton pickup truck that you love.

5. Palomino Solaire 320 TSBH

Palomino Solaire 320 TSBH

  • Length of 36.25 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 7,958 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,865 lbs.
  • GVWR of 9,825 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,085 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 44.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 98.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • 13,500 BTU Air Conditioner
  • Washer & Dryer Prep (Optional)

The Palomino – Solaire 320 TSBH is a relatively heavy 36-foot travel trailer with all the comforts of home and then some.

While it can technically sleep up to 10 people on paper, it is arguably better suited for a couple or retirees who want to have the grandkids come to stay for a weekend.

The master suite is one of the things that jumps off the page right away.

It has a true king-size bed built into one of the three slide-out sections, with floor space for two people to walk around. This is rare in a lot of front-mounted king-size master suites.

The other thing to like is the corner closet that comes with washer & dryer prep. A dealership will have affordable stackable models for you to choose from, which lets you save time and money, without having to go to a local laundromat.

Palomino also made sure to build this version of the Solaire with a large enough gray water tank to handle the washing machine water, which isn’t always the case with the competitors.

A large slide-out at midship gives expands the livable space for the open concept kitchen and living room.

It has a comfortable sofa, a cozy dinette, and a large entertainment center just like you would expect in a brick & mortar home.

The rear of the Palomino – Solaire 320 TSBH has a separate small living room area with its own entertainment center.

There’s also a sofa sleeper with a fold-out bunk. This gives teenagers or visiting family members their own living space.

The exterior of the Palomino – Solaire 320 TSBH is also well-appointed with the creature comforts of a home on the road.

The 21-foot awning gives you a huge sitting area out of the sun. There’s also a large outdoor kitchen area with a refrigerator and sink to replicate the feeling of a grill on your back deck.

6. Coachmen Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS

Coachmen Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS

  • MSRP around $52,000
  • Length of 38.5 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 8,620 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 2,180 lbs.
  • GVWR of 10,800 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,252 lbs.
  • 35,0000 BTU furnace

The Coachmen – Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS is another travel trailer set up for full-timing that includes a washer and dryer prep.

Adding a stackable unit saves you a lot of money in laundromat costs, without taking up a lot of space in the queen-size master suite’s corner closet.

Though this isn’t the only way in which this well-appointed travel trailer feels like a “Home” instead of a “Camper.”

When you step into the bathroom you are treated to the kind to the kind of quality features you want to live with.

This includes things like a large shower with a true glass door instead of plastic, as well as a large RV toilet and a deep basin sink.

The rear of the Coachmen – Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS is essentially a separate living room with an entertainment center and a comfortable couch.

If your children or your grandchildren want to visit for a weekend the entire rear transforms into a comfortable guest bedroom without robbing you of any of the living space in the midship open concept kitchen and family room.

When you step outside you’ll also find a lot of like-home convenience features.

Including an outdoor camper kitchen and a rear bumper gear rack for things like mountain bikes or hanging outdoor clothes. Not to mention a large pass-thru exterior storage bay.

All this comes with an impressively comfortable MSRP of $52,000 new. Though the gross weight of nearly 11,000-pounds does mean that you will need at least a three-quarter-ton pickup truck to tow it.

If you are going to be moving around a lot you might want to lean toward a one-tone truck for your tow vehicle. If you don’t already have one, this can factor into the overall cost of ownership.

7. Forest River – Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10 Toy Hauler Travel Trailer

Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10

  • MSRP around $64,000
  • Length of 33.5 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 7,860 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 3,546 lbs.
  • GVWR of 11,406 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,206 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 100.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 76.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 38.0 gallons
  • 40,0000 BTU furnace

The Forest River – Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10 is a toy hauler travel trailer that is nicely geared for a couple or a small family that loves full-time living.

Yet it is also geared to let you live in comfort when you want to take your travel trailer home off the grid for a week or so of boondocking.

The MSRP of the Forest River – Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10 is also very friendly for a toy hauler travel trailer.

It only costs around $64,000 totally loaded and ready to pull off the dealership’s lot.

Though the gross vehicle weight rating does push the limit of what a half-ton pickup truck can safely pull when it’s fully loaded.

If you don’t already have a three-quarter-ton truck to pull it, you will need to factor that into the overall cost of ownership.

The living and sleeping accommodations in this toy hauler travel trailer are the definition of the word “Spacious.”

You see this with the truly king-size master suite in the front with enough room on each side of the bed for his and hers nightstands, and wardrobe closets.

There’s also enough floor space to dress and walk around easily, which isn’t always the case with a lot of other master suites that basically jam a king-size bed into the bedroom.

The large power slide-out section adds to the overall floor space that flows through to the kitchen.

It houses a family-size dinette as well as a comfortable jack knife sofa that feels like a true living room, as it faces the entertainment center and pantry.

The rear cargo area garage is large enough, and the payload capacity is high enough to easily hold an ATV, golf cart, or UTV.

Though it is much more than that. When you pull your “Toys” out the rear ramp converts into an outdoor porch or deck where you can sit back and enjoy a pleasant summer evening, just like you would on your deck at home.

The Forest River – Cherokee Wolf Pack Gold 27GOLD10 is a great option for couples who like to spend the summer “Hosting” a private campground or contract operating a primitive campground for the forest service.

You can set it up as a seasonal home in the summer, with a golf cart or ATV to let you patrol the campground. Then it packs up to let you head south before the snow flies.

8. Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS Destination Trailer

Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS

  • MSRP around $56,000
  • Length of 41.3 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 11,825 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,825 lbs.
  • GVWR of 13,000 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 1,495 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 38.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 71.5 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 39.0 gallons

While destination travel trailers like the Jayco – Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS are truly mobile, they are geared more for families who want to park up their travel trailers for months if not years at a time.

You see this in the signature large sliding glass door that is intended to step out onto a semi-permanent deck.

It makes this a great travel trailer for full-time living at the family lake lot or your own private retirement village.

For all the comfort and luxury you get the MSRP of the Jayco – Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS is a very friendly $56,000.

Though this doesn’t include the cost of some of the optional extras like the washer & dryer prep in the spacious master bath.

Where you want to keep this destination travel trailer and how often you want to move it can be a factor in the overall cost of ownership.

With a gross weight of 13,000-pounds and a hitch weight of nearly 1,500-pounds, you will need a three-quarter to a one-ton pickup truck to safely tow it.

If you are planning to park it at a seasonal or long-term campsite, then this is a non-factor.

If you are going to move it around every month or two, then you will need to factor in the tow vehicle cost or the cost to hire a tow company to move it for you.

The interior of the Jayco – Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS is well appointed and designed to be a true home for a couple or a small family who wants a weekend retreat that is ready 24/7/365 days a year.

It has a comfortable queen-size master suite in the front with tons of storage.

A spacious master bath, and an open concept kitchen, and a living room with an entertainment center that houses a 40-inch flatscreen TV.

How Long Is Your RV_ Best RV Length For Visiting National Parks

Not sure why out of all of the awesome choices made by Grand Design and Winnebago you picked their smallest and least luxurious models. It almost seems like you skewed the choices so people would naturally gravitate towards the larger ones you offered. Not sure anyone wants to full-time in an Imagine XLS or Micro-minnie unless they have a smaller Truck and can’t pull something larger. Those two models are suited for Non full-time people in my opinion.

36 Hours in St. Louis

The city, with its once-quiet, now-vibrant downtown, offers new restaurants, microbreweries and a rich array of cultural venues, including a museum that pays tribute to the blues.

36 travel

By Elaine Glusac

Before travelers could fly there, St. Louis, on the Mississippi River, was a natural point of continental convergence for rails, trails and sails, the gateway to the West in the 19th century. That traffic, and the industry that grew up around it, created a legacy of wealth and power that is reflected in the city’s architecture and memorials to its complex history. These days, the downtown core, which boomed with industrialization in the early 20th century, and hollowed out with a rush to the suburbs thereafter, is filling up with new residences, hotel projects and cultural venues (including a museum dedicated to the blues). You can still drink Budweiser in the massive factory where it’s made, but you’ll also find microbreweries that emphasize local ingredients; innovative takes on soul food at restaurants like Gourmet Soul ; and flavors introduced by immigrant communities from the Balkans and beyond.

1) 2 p.m. Frontier revisited

The 630-foot Gateway Arch, the grand 1965 city landmark, remains the same, including the vintage tram rides to the top (tram ride from $12). But a four-year, $380-million remodeling of Gateway Arch National Park (admission $3) reframes the monument’s connection to the city and to the westward migration it commemorates. A highway that divided the park from the city has been covered, providing additional park land and easy pedestrian access. A sloping plaza now ushers visitors into the subterranean Museum at the Gateway Arch , overhauled to explore Western colonization from different viewpoints, including that of Manifest Destiny (themed “the West was won”), Native Americans (“the West was stolen”) and Mexico (“the North was taken”). Design fans will appreciate the new gallery devoted to Eero Saarinen’s brilliant catenary arch design, including the models of relatively conservative entries it beat in the design competition. S tudents of history shouldn’t miss the Old Courthouse , part of the park and the site where Dred Scott and his wife, Harriet, sued for their freedom from slavery.

2) 5 p.m. This brew’s for you

St. Louis is the original home of the ubiquitous macro-brew Budweiser. But microbrew operations, some employing veterans of Bud, have created competing pints at newer brewers like Side Project Brewing , Narrow Gauge Brewing Company and Urban Chestnut Brewing Company . If forced to pick one, don’t miss the original upstart, the Saint Louis Brewery, makers of Schlafly beer. Since 1991, the Schlafly Tap Room has occupied a historically registered 1901 printing company building west of downtown in a handsome neighborhood of brick warehouses still awaiting revival. There’s hardly a type of beer Schlafly hasn’t made over the years and the taps turn seasonally. Look for the hazy white lager and refreshing kölsch (pints $6).

3) 7:30 p.m. Midwestern bounty

Many St. Louis chefs champion the abundance of Missouri-grown foods, including, on the high end, the chef Michael Gallina. The native of St. Louis worked at New York’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns for nearly 10 years before moving back home to open the farm-to-table restaurant Vicia . The vegetable-centric menu celebrates Midwestern ingredients with fine-dining flair in the window-wrapped room, and warm servers set a relaxed tone. Dishes change with the seasons, but recently included ham-studded crispy fried rice ($16), fork-tender, grass-fed beef with whey onions ($18), and turnip tacos ($18) that use paper-thin turnip slices as shells for make-your-own tacos, accompanied by strained yogurt, pickled red onion, black beans and optional pork or mushrooms. The bar does liquid wonders with herbs and even leftover yogurt whey.

4) 10 a.m. Rebel with a cause

Amanda Clark, an historian, can spout all the pertinent facts and figures about St. Louis. But she wanted to combine them with more offbeat, seamy and overshadowed city stories when she founded Renegade Stl tours six years ago. Now the company has expanded its portfolio to include tours themed to disasters and catastrophes, photography, baseball and manufacturing history. The two-hour Downtown History and Architecture Extravaganza (from $20) is a good first outing, covering St. Louis’s start in 1764 as a French trading settlement; the Gilded Age boom when city merchants profited outfitting westward migrants; and the midcentury development of the Gateway Arch. En route she points out architectural gems from the architects Louis Sullivan and Philip Johnson and discusses the city’s early experiment in legal prostitution and its ongoing struggle with brick theft from historic buildings.

5) 12 p.m. Balkan treats

Waves of immigrants — including Italians in the restaurant-filled Hill district and Germans, among them the founders of Anheuser-Busch beer — have left their mark on St. Louis. More recently, beginning in the 1990s, refugees from Bosnia flocked to affordable St. Louis, particularly the Bevo Mill district, home to a replica of a wooden fountain found in Sarajevo. The community’s proudest culinary expression is found in suburban Webster Groves where Balkan Treat Box , long a popular food truck, just opened a brick-and-mortar, lunch-only shop dealing grilled beef sausages called cevapi ($11) and Turkish wood-fired pide flatbread with Balkan kajmak cream ($11).

6) 1 p.m. Shop local

In the Botanical Heights District, named for its proximity to the comprehensive Missouri Botanical Garden, Union Studio provides one-stop shopping for a variety of local art, clothing, jewelry and crafts. Wander over to browse for handle-free ceramic mugs by the potter Al Westcott, handmade ties and pocket squares by Lonesome Traveler and sensuously draping pendant necklaces from Mahnal Jewelry by Shayba Muhammad . Pick up souvenirs from an assortment of St. Louis-themed cards, pins and dish towels. If perishables are more your style, hit Union Loafers bakery and cafe next door for a loaf of fresh sourdough.

7) 2 p.m. Art and blues

Two of the city’s many interesting museums are small enough to hit in one stimulating spree. First, stop in the Grand Center neighborhood at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation (free), a fascinating blend of Tadao Ando’s minimalist architecture and rotating exhibitions of contemporary art from St. Louis’s famed publishing family. Continue downtown to the two-year-old National Blues Museum ($15), which pays homage to the American musical form that evolved from field hollers and rags by W.C. Handy to Muddy Waters’ electric blues and Chuck Berry’s early rock ’n’ roll. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to write and create their own blues song by choosing piano, harmonica and guitar styles, writing lyrics and mixing it all up in a sound booth. Send yourself the finished results via email. Besides being a great introduction to the blues, the museum celebrates African-American culture in St. Louis , which is also home to the Scott Joplin House State Historic Site where the ragtime composer lived, a nd The Griot Museum of Black History , featuring exhibits on slavery and wax figures of area-born celebrities, including Josephine Baker.

8) 5:30 p.m. Craft dinner

The chef most closely associated with St. Louis’s culinary emergence, Gerard Craft, has done French, Italian and now, in his new restaurant called Cinder House , South American food. A tribute, in part, to his childhood nanny from Brazil, Cinder House serves a mix of wood-fired dishes from grilled prawns ($15) to steaks (from $32), and Brazilian pork, beef and chimichurri feijoada ($32) and moqueca seafood stew ($30). Situated in the riverfront Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, Cinder House includes a spacious outdoor patio that serves caipirinhas and mojitos ($11), in addition to Instagrammable views of the Gateway Arch.

9) 7:30 p.m. For culture seekers

There is a wealth of choices in the rich performing arts scene, including the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis , which includes the playwright Tony Kushner as an alumnus. St. Louis Black Repertory bills itself as the nation’s largest professional African-American theater company. Earlier this year it staged the premiere of “Canfield Drive,” exploring media coverage of the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson, Mo.; “Nina Simone: Four Women” runs May 15 to June 2. The second-oldest symphony in the country, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra plays in Powell Symphony Hall, an ornate 1935 vaudeville theater. In summer, the 100-year-old Municipal Opera Association, known as the Muny , stages popular musicals (“Guys and Dolls” kicks off the season June 10) in a vast 10,800-seat outdoor stadium in Forest Park.

10) 9 a.m. No half measures

Arrive early or prepare to line up at Half & Half in suburban Clayton, where the chef and owner, Mike Randolph takes breakfast seriously. A little more than half of the menu in the sunny, bustling storefront skews savory, with dishes like a fried egg sandwich ($8.50), and veggie hash with eggs and potatoes that comes in a piping hot skillet ($11). On the sweet side, there’s pancakes with raspberry jam, mascarpone and granola ($11) and s’mores French toast ($10.50). Wash it down with bottomless cups of locally roasted Blueprint Coffee ($3.95).

11) 10 a.m. Urban adventure

The site of the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904, the nearly 1,300-acre Forest Park serves as the wilderness and playing field for urban residents, as well as a cultural magnet with attractions that include the Saint Louis Art Museum , Missouri History Museum , Saint Louis Zoo and Saint Louis Science Center. You can drive around the park, but the best way to see it is on foot, following paths that wind through forests and prairies and around tranquil ponds. Park-goers can also rent a kayak at the boathouse ($15 an hour), play tennis ($5) or golf (from $22).

12) Noon. Museum of play

With its many museums, St. Louis covers the spectrum of culture, anchored on the playful end by City Museum (admission $15). The all-ages playground, based in a 600,000-square-foot former shoe factory, houses a mix of eclectic exhibits and carnival attractions, including a Ferris wheel and giant slide on the roof. Slides, as well as stairs, connect four levels of this arty fun house, which features an aquarium, collections of architectural artifacts, mosaics and taxidermy and a mini shoelace factory. Its “no maps” policy encourages guests to let loose and go where the treehouse or the underground caves lead.

Many of the loft apartment conversions that have revived St. Louis’ downtown buildings now stock Airbnb’s inventory. For example, the one-bedroom Designer Loft in Center of Downtown features whitewashed brick walls, modernist furnishings and a fully equipped contemporary kitchen. From $65; Airbnb.com/rooms/17106158.

The new Hotel Saint Louis occupies a retrofitted 1893 landmark building originally designed by Louis Sullivan with a restored marble lobby capped by a stained-glass ceiling. The full-service hotel includes a spa, a top-floor bar and, in summer, a rooftop pool. From $169; hotelsaintlouis.com.
