Disneyland® Tokyo featuring rides as well as a small group of people

  • Things to do

I only need accommodations for part of my trip

Visit Tokyo Disneyland®

At the captivating Tokyo Disneyland® theme resort, the movies of Walt Disney spring to life with a host of family-friendly attractions. Enjoy roller coasters and fairground rides, watch music and dance performances and meet world-famous Disney characters. You can even spend the night at a themed hotel. The resort opened in 1983 and was the first Disney Park outside of the U.S.

Start your visit at Tokyo Disneyland® Park, also known as The Kingdom of Dreams and Magic. Immerse yourself in the world of Disney’s adored characters in the seven themed areas. Visit Mickey Mouse and his friends in Toontown or relive classic fairytales in Fantasyland. Ride a tall log flume in Critter Country or explore futuristic technology in Tomorrowland. Cruise on a Mississippi riverboat or ride a runaway mine train in Westernland. Visit the Cinderella Castle to discover the story of the much-loved fairytale princess.

Don’t miss the World Bazaar, where you’ll find recreations of 20th-century American shops and restaurants. It’s a good place to have lunch or purchase snacks and souvenirs. Check the park’s schedule for live shows and parades. A highlight is the Nighttime Parade, featuring illuminated floats and dancing Disney characters.

Discover the legends of the sea celebrated in Disney movies at Tokyo DisneySea® Park. Take a ride on Sinbad’s boat or follow the adventures of Indiana Jones. Glide along a canal on a Venetian gondola or journey to the center of the earth with Captain Nemo. Watch firework displays accompanied by Disney songs.

Tokyo Disneyland® is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Tokyo. It is easily accessible via public trains and buses. There are direct bus and train connections from Narita International Airport. Paid parking is available for up to 20,000 vehicles. A paid monorail links the various attractions and several hotels, which include three Disney-themed hotels.

Tokyo Disneyland® is open daily. Allow a full day to visit each of Tokyo Disneyland® Park and Tokyo DisneySea® Park. Check the resort’s official website for details of admission fees, including information on multiday passes. Purchase tickets online to avoid standing in line at the park’s ticket booths. Cut costs by bringing your own food to enjoy at designated picnic areas.

Reviews of tokyo disneyland®, 1/5 - terrible.

Rating was based on experience with massive crowds during late December. Surely, an experience any other time would be much more pleasant.

5/5 - Excellent

Buy your tickets ahead and be there before the amusement park opens.

Disney Sea is a must.

The after 6 PM pass is worth it, most of the attractions are exactly the same as the American counterparts, so you don't need to see those, which means that less than half of the park is different, so you don't need too much time at the park.

It takes about 3 different trains plus the Disney monorail (which you have to pay for) to get there. Kind of a pain the butt. We were in Shinjuku.

Lines to purchase tickets were really long. Suggest to order tickets online and print from home before going to park.

Tokyo Disneyland (JDT Recommends)

Make your dreams come true.

Make Your Dreams Come True

Japan has its own "Happiest Place on Earth" , Tokyo Disneyland. Taking it's design from the original Disneyland in California and the Magic Kingdom in Florida, this was the first Disney Park opened outside of the Unites States in 1983. In 2013 (just 30 years after opening), Tokyo Disneyland became the second most visited amusement park in the world, edging out the original Disneyland before falling short to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.

Tokyo Disneyland consists of seven themed lands based on the attractions at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom:

  • World Bazaar - A shopping arcade designed like an early 20th century American Town at the park's entrance filled with shops and restaurants.
  • Tomorrowland - Based on the future and outer space. Popular attractions include Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlasters, and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.
  • Toontown - Based on the neighborhood where Disney characters live, this part of the park is filled with rides for younger guests. Popular Attractions include Mickey's House, Donald Duck's boat, Chip n Dale's Treehouse, and a roller-coaster for children.
  • Fantasyland - Based on the classic Disney films, Cinderella's Castle sits in the center of the park. Other popular characters include Snow White, Peter Pan, and attractions like It's a Small World, The Haunted Mansion, and the Tokyo Disney Exclusive: Pooh's Hunny Hunt .
  • Critter Country - Based on the Disney film Song of the South , this is the smallest part of the park but features a popular favorite: Splash Mountain .
  • Westernland - Similar to Frontier Land , this part of the park is based on the Rivers of America and features Tom Sawyer's Island and the Mark Twain Riverboat.
  • Adventureland - Split between the jungle-theme and New Orleans-themed areas, this part of the park features the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

The Happiest Place on Earth

The Happiest Place on Earth

Tokyo Disneyland features lavish parades and decorations throughout the park depending on the season. Much like the parks in the United States, the park features special shows and celebrations during the holidays. Tokyo Disneyland is also very popular for the special Disney-themed snacks. There are the typical Disneyland choices like Tiramisu ice cream sandwiches, but also Japanese-style treats like Gyoza Dogs and the Little Green Men Mochi Ice Cream - little ice cream shaped as the Green Aliens from Toy Story . A few other great choices are the Mango Mickey Waffle, Mike Wazowski Melon Bread, Honey Popcorn, or the Mickey Hand Sandwich! Don't miss out on the chance to try some of these creative, unique snacks during your time at Tokyo Disneyland. Fun Fact: contrary to the name, Tokyo Disneyland is not located in Tokyo, but rather in the Chiba prefecture next to Tokyo.

Adjacent to the park is Tokyo Disney Sea , a Disney theme-park opened in 2001 inspired by the sea and meant to appeal to an older audience than Tokyo Disneyland. You can add both parks after a Japan tour with us during a post-stay in Tokyo after an Anime Japan tour, or add Tokyo Disneyland to your itinerary on a private Japan tour vacation package!

New Fantasyland Brings Beauty and the Beast to Life

New Fantasyland Brings Beauty and the Beast to Life

Disney fans rejoice! Tokyo Disneyland has announced the opening of a new area, “New Fantasyland”, and brings to life the magical story of Beauty and the Beast. The new area will span across three of the seven themed lands: Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Toontown. This new addition is the largest expansion to date for Tokyo Disneyland and previews up to this point look as though it will not disappoint. While New Fantasyland was initially set to open on April 15th, the opening date was pushed back due to the coronavirus. However, with September 28th set as the opening date, upcoming visitors will sure to be thoroughly delighted. New Fantasyland will feature a magnificent brand new castle which looks as though visitors can walk through and has a color themed to conjure a fairy tale atmosphere. Likewise, the shops, restaurants, and Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction have all been meticulously designed to immerse visitors in the world of Beauty and the Beast. Everything from the carts and staff outfits to Gaston’s fountain statue and miscellaneous decorations, they are all working in harmony to create a wonderful experience. In conjunction with the opening of New Fantasyland, Tomorrowland is also getting a new ride! The world’s first Baymax ride, “The Happy Ride with Baymax”, will open on the same day. While not much has been revealed about the ride other than a concept art being released, it looks to be a thrilling ride for people of all ages. Toontown will also have a new meet and greet space called Minnie’s Style Studio where people can take pictures with Minnie as well. Your next visit to Tokyo Disneyland will surely be filled with new magical experiences and memories!

TOKYO DISNEYLAND & DISNEYSEA: Guide for First-Timers

TOKYO DISNEYLAND & DISNEYSEA: Guide for First-Timers

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

We don’t normally write travel guides for theme parks. But Tokyo Disney Resort turned out to be much more complicated than we anticipated.

Yes, complicated. As soon as I began burning my first hour queueing for my first ride, I knew this super popular theme park would merit its own blog post. As our line moved at a pace that would put glaciers to shame, I realized that if you don’t plan your trip here well, you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and enjoying very little.

So here it is, a travel guide especially dedicated to the Tokyo Disney Resort, presented in FAQs (frequently asked questions) format. You’re welcome!

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Which is better: Disneyland or DisneySea?

DisneySea, without question. It’s more visually appealing, and its rides more thrilling. But the most compelling reason you should pick DisneySea is that it is one of a kind . You’ll never find any other DisneySea anywhere else in the world, while there are many other Disneylands. Heck, there’s another one not too far away — Hong Kong.

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

I’ve only been to just one other Disneyland (Hong Kong), but I can tell you that it is way tooo similar to Tokyo Disneyland. There are differences here and there, but the key attractions and overall experience are the same. So here’s something that would make it easier for you to choose: If you’ve been to Disneyland Hong Kong or planning to go there, pick DisneySea.

That is, if you can choose only one. If you have more time and money, visit both. Why not?

When is the best time to visit?

You already know this, but I’ll just spell it out: Disneyland and DisneySea are incredibly popular. And I mean incredibly popular. Any Tokyo-bound tourist traveling with family or kids is most likely to have them in their itinerary. Hence, expect long, long, long lines especially during weekends and peak seasons.

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

What are the peak seasons? According to most online sources:

  • Golden Week (April 29 – May 5)
  • Obon Festival (August 13–15)
  • New Year (December 31 – January 5)

I’ve been to Disney Resort twice. First time in in late November, and the queues weren’t that bad. The second time was in early April, in the week of cherry blossoms’ full bloom, and maaaaan was it cray cray. I ended up riding just a handful of attractions, and even the queues for popcorn were unforgiving. And that was on a Thursday!

If you already have a set schedule, just try to avoid visiting on a weekend because that handsome money you spent on the ticket won’t be worth it.

There is a website that predicts how crowded Disneyland and DisneySea are going to be on specific dates. The problem is that it’s in Japanese, but you can always use Google Translate. Check it out here .

But as early as now, for the sake of your sanity, accept in your heart that you will NOT get to experience everything!

How much is the admission ticket?

Here are the ticket prices (as of 2017):

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

You can double check the updated rates here .

Where to buy tickets?

You can buy tickets from the booths at the entrance. But if you want to save more time, you can buy online . Klook sells many types depending on where you want to pick up your Disney pass. There are 3 areas where you can redeem the ticket: Maihama Station, Narita Airport, and Shinjuku area.

Maihama Station is the most convenient because it’s the station closest to Disney Resort.

You can use any of these passes for either Disneyland or DisneySea.

You can check the rates or purchase one below:

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

Booking is easy and hassle-free. Here’s how.

1. Visit any of the pages above . Choose the pick-up area most convenient to you.

2. Select date and quantity . Click on BOOK.

3. On the next page, enter your details.

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

4. On the same page, pay using credit card or PayPal.

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

That’s it! You’ll get a confirmation via email!

Once booked, you just need to show your printed or mobile/digital copy of the voucher to redeem your Disneyland pass. There are 3 areas where you can redeem the ticket (depending on what you booked): Maihama Station (which is the train station closest to Disney Resort; Narita Airport; and Shinjuku area.

How to Get to Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea?

We have a separate, more detailed post just for that.

Read it here: How to Get to Tokyo Disney Resort

What are the best attractions?

Below are the most popular attractions. They have the longest queues!

Is there a way to bypass the long lines?

Yes, and it’s perfectly legitimate. It’s called FAST PASS .

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

Disneylands in the US have it too. Fast Pass is a ticket that would allow you to skip the regular lines and go straight to the ride. At every key attraction in both Disneyland and DisneySea, there is a separate entrance for those with Fast Pass tix.

It’s similar to Universal Studios’ Express Pass. The difference is, it is NOT for sale. It’s fair game.

Only one Fast Pass per park ticket is allowed at any given time.

How can I take advantage of this Fast Pass thingy?

Here’s how it works.

Every key attraction has Fast Pass ticket machines installed near the entrance. All you need to do is scan the QR Code of your ticket and it will give you a fast pass for that particular ride. It recognizes QR Code printed on Klook tickets so make sure you don’t lose your printout after entering the park.

The machines will release a small ticket. That’s your fast pass. The ticket indicates the specific attraction you can use it for and two times: the time you can use the pass and the time you can get another Fast Pass.

You cannot use the Fast Pass anytime you want. You can only use it within the period assigned to you. So if your Fast Pass reads you can use it between 1-2pm, you should enter the attraction at any time within 1-2pm. You can show up at 1:55pm and they will still accept it.

Can I get a Fast Pass for all the rides in my first hour inside?

Nope. You’re allowed ONLY ONE Fast Pass every 1.5 hours or so. You’re blocked from getting another pass until the time indicated. Sometimes, even if you get a fast pass in the morning, you’re scheduled for a 3pm ride. That’s how tightly they regulate ticketing. Also, Fast Pass ticketing closes at around 4pm.

So make sure you get a fast pass for only the rides you really, really want to experience. If you’re on the fence about something, don’t get a fast pass for it.

Do all attractions use Fast Pass?

No. Only the most popular ones. See the list of key attractions above? Only those accept Fast Pass. For everything else, you have to fall in line.

How can I maximize my time?

Here’s a good strategy: Get a Fast Pass for your Top 4 attractions. This is, in my opinion, the best way to approach this:

  • Before the trip, research and identify your Top 6 attractions. Now, get a map of the park and rearrange your Top 6 according to their location. Your #1 attraction should be near #2 and so on.
  • Come to the park early. The earlier you arrive, the more rides you’ll enjoy.
  • Once inside, go straight to your #1 attraction and get a Fast Pass for it. Check the assigned time you should enter that attraction and the time you can get another fast pass.
  • While waiting, queue up for your #2 attraction. When you’re done, enjoy the other attractions nearby.
  • When it’s your time to get another Fast Pass (you’ll see the time on your first Fast Pass), go to your #3 Attraction and get another Fast Pass.
  • Once you have your second Fast Pass, go to your #4 Attraction and queue up.

Just repeat the process.

Of course, don’t forget to return to the attractions you got Fast Passes for when it’s time!

Also, be mindful of certain schedules especially of the parade and the fireworks display.

Without Fast Pass, how long do I have to wait in line?

Depends on the attraction. If you’re lucky, 30-40 minutes. But for the extremely popular ones, prepare to wait for 60-90 minutes, sometimes 120 minutes.

Bring something to entertain yourself while waiting. In my case, my phone usually does the trick. I just upload pics and check my social accounts. And oh, bring a power bank (mobile charger).

Where to eat inside Disneyland/DisneySea

There are a number of restaurants inside the parks, but the queues and prices can be scary. A set meal costs ¥900 (sandwich + drink) to ¥1500 (rice meal), and truth be told, they don’t really taste special. Prepare to wait at least 30 minutes to order.

If you want to avoid the lunch rush, have breakfast before coming and have late lunch inside the park instead.

If you really have to dine at a restaurant inside, I recommend the following at Disneyland:

  • Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall in Fantasyland . If you’re on a budget, order the chicken meal. It’s pricey at ¥1500 per meal, but at least you get a half-chicken for it, better than ¥1000 sandwich meals at other places. You can just order extra rice and split the chicken into quarters.

tokyo disneyland tour package philippines

At DisneySea, try the following:

  • Casbah Food Court in Arabian Coast . If you’re quality taste instead of price, dine here instead. Their special set meal is at around ¥1500. Serving isn’t that big but food is really tasty, something you won’t expect being served at a theme park food court.
  • Vulcania Buffeteria in Mysterious Island . Chinese cuisine. Impressive, immersive location. If you’re having dinner here, choose a table outside so you have a great view of the volcano, which “erupts” every few minutes.

Drinks inside the park cost: ¥300-500. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

Can I bring outside food into Disneyland/DisneySea?

YES, but you must consume them at designated picnic areas located outside the park but near the entrance. They have tables and chairs for those who want to bring their own lunch. (As of September 2018.)

However, drinks in cans/glass bottles and alcoholic drinks (regardless of container) are prohibited.

We recommend that you just buy onigiri (rice balls) from convenience stores because they’re easier to eat and don’t require utensils. They also aren’t that hard to carry.

Are selfie sticks or tripods allowed inside Disneyland/DisneySea?

NO. The use of monopods, unipods, tripods or selfie sticks are strictly prohibited inside the Disneyland or DisneySea.

What are the hotels near Tokyo Disney Resort?

Tokyo Disney Resort has four hotels, but they are all insanely expensive. To give you an idea, here are the rates of a night’s stay in a Standard Room.

  • Disney Ambassador Hotel: ¥43,200 (P19,300)
  • Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta: ¥51,400 (P23,000)
  • Tokyo Disneyland Hotel: ¥45,200 (P20,200)
  • Tokyo Disney CELEBRATION Hotel: ¥20,800 (P9,300)

There are also several high-end hotels close to Disney Resort. They are also expensive but a lot less costlier than the Disney-owned ones. Here are some of them:

But you know what, you don’t even need to stay near Disneyland because it’s pretty accessible. If you have other places to visit in Tokyo, consider a hotel downtown. Here are the Top BUDGET Hotels and hostels in Tokyo as ranked by online users as of May 2017.

Hi! Are there water fountains in Disney Sea and is it okay to bring an empty tumbler? I brought one in HK Disneyland.

yoshke

Hi Cecilia! Yep to both questions! :) That’s what I did too!

Cecilia Icasiano

Thank you! I’ll be able to save Y300-500 :) nice!!!

Sheenamay Alagar

Hi! Does the ticket in klook already capable of Fast Pass or is it a separate ticket with Fast Pass? Thank you! =)

Yosh Dimen

You can avail of the Fast Pass by using your Klook ticket. :)

Kezia

Hi! We’re bringing our son and his stroller. Is it possible to bring the stroller inside the attraction? Thank you

Hi Kezia, I think it’s possible because I saw a lot of strollers there. The Disneyland website also mentions that here: http://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/help/tdl_kids.html

Stroller rental is also available.

Cher

Hi! I have booked for 6 people using Klook but was only assigned 1 QR code. How can we get 6 fast passes if we only have 1 QR code? Thanks in advance!

Hi Cher, hmmm, that’s weird. In our case, I booked for 2 people, I was emailed 2 passes with 2 QR codes (in 1 PDF file).

Can you double check? Maybe the PDF file has 6 separate passes.

Rick

Great Blog!! Probably the best I’ve read and seen since I decided to take my family to Tokyo Disney.

I will be traveling to Tokyo Disney with my family, (wife and 2 kids) this September and will be going to Disney land one day and Disney sea another day. I’m wondering if it will be better to eat breakfast in the hotel or if it is better to eat breakfast at a restaurant outside the hotel?

How much does breakfast usually cost in the restaurants nearby Disneyland? And What time do the restaurants in the disney area, serve breakfast?

My main concern is getting done with breakfast early and getting in line so that I can get into the park early with my family. My hotel right now doesn’t start breakfast until 7am. Please advise.

Hi Rick! Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, we failed to scout around the area near Disneyland for restaurants, so we don’t know. :(

Andrei

Hi! Parang may nabasa ako na pwede daw po ang outside foods/drinks sa disney sea, pwede po paki verify? Dito kasi nakalagay di raw pwede. Thanks

Hi Andre, apparently pwede na siya but they must be consumed at the picnic area outside. I updated na rin the post above.

Norvie

Hi, so pwede pong lumabas and pumasok uli after lunch?

Marie

Hi! Im trying to book at klook but it is noted that we need to pick up the ticket in Shinjuku area pa. Ganun ba talaga? How to buy ticket po na pwede na deretso sa disney with voucher?

Hi Marie, apparently there have been changes with the Klook redemption process. You now have to redeem the ticket either at Maihama Station, Narita Airport, or Shinjuku. It’s best to redeem at Maihama Station because it’s the one closest to Disney Resort.

You can book a Disney Pass (Maihama pickup) here: https://affiliate.klook.com/jump/activity/589-tokyo-disneyland-japan/?adid=4574&af_wid=825

We also reflected the changes on the post above na.

Zygel Iino

Hi! It’s my first time to go to Tokyo Disneyland this month and I also run my own blog, I’m not sure if it’s okay to post stills of The theme park on my blog. Do I need to ask permission for it first? As well as my YouTube page? Please help ❤️❤️❤️

Belynne

Hi! You have a very informative & helpful blog. BTW We already booked online & received the voucher via email with QR code. It says to redeem the ticket in maihama station from 8:30 am. Can we redeem the ticket in advance? Like a day prior the exact date of use? So that we can head to the park before it opens, since its opening at 8am. If we will not redeem in advance, we will be late. Thanks!!!!

melissa

Hi! I’d like to know, if we stay in one of Disney partner hotels like Sheraton, are we given an advantage immediately to reserve seats for lunch or dinner at Chef Mickey? Also, is it possible to watch fireworks display after fantasmic?

TOKYO ITINERARIES (with Budget)

by thepinay solobackpacker | Jan 2, 2023 | Itinerary , Japan , Tokyo , Travel Guide | 0 comments

Tokyo exudes with timeless appeal. This lively capital of Japan is more than just the towering skyscrapers, blinding neon-lights, giant video screens and surreal sci-fi streets. It’s a massive city packed with character and heritage where the old and the new blissfully blend – from age-old forests and garden to ancients temples and shrines. And ooh, Tokyo is a food haven, do not leave the city without indulging in local dishes. In fact, Tokyo savors the title of “City with Most Michelin-Star Restaurants”. But if you think Tokyo is pretty expensive, I say, it is manageable. It is possible to travel to Tokyo without breaking the bank. Here are my sample Tokyo itineraries with budget, good for 3 days to 6 days trip.

TRAVEL BLOG CONTENTS

TOKYO ITINERARY #1 : TOKYO + DISNEYLAND + FUJI 5 LAKES (LAKE KAWAGUCHIKO GROUP TOUR) + ODAIBA

Here’s a sample Tokyo itinerary , good for a 6 days 5 nights trip that includes a visit to Disneyland + Fuji Five Lakes.  Feel free to tweak this depending on your schedule and budget.  I’ve listed the estimated expenses if you’ll be staying in a dorm/capsule or bunk bed, this is good for a solo budget traveler. I also included the possible expenses if you are a party of two and you’ll be staying in a double room.

Hotel Bookings:

Double room (6days/5 nights): JPY 4,372/PHP 2,000 (USD 39/ EURO 33/SGD 53/MYR 164) x 5 = JPY 21,860/PHP 10,000 (USD 195/EURO 165/SGD 265/MYR 820)

  Dorm/bunk/capsule (6days/5 nights): JPY 3,486/PHP 1,600 (USD 31/EURO 26/SGD 42/MYR 131) X 5= JPY 17,430/PHP 8,000 (USD 155/EURO 130/SGD 210/MYR 655).

So supposing you’ll be staying in a double room in Tokyo  for 6 days 5 nights and follow the above itinerary, estimated total expenses is roughly : JPY 54,160/PHP 24,774 (USD 484.34/EURO 410/SGD 654/MYR 2,037)

On the other hand, if you’ll be staying in a dorm/bunk bed or capsule hotel for 6 days 5 nights, if you follow the itinerary mentioned above, estimated total cost is about JPY 49,730/PHP 22,748 (USD 445/EURO 376/SGD 600/MYR 1,871).

TOKYO ITINERARY #3: (BUDGET) TOKYO + ODAIBA

TOKYO 123

This sample Tokyo Itinerary for 4 days 3 nights is recommended for solo budget travelers. Feel free to amend this depending on your budget and schedule.

If you follow the above itinerary and you’ll be staying in a double room for about JPY 4,372/PHP 2,000 (USD 39/ EURO 33/SGD 53/MYR 164) per day, estimated total expenses is:   JPY 27,027/PHP 12,296 (USD 239/EURO 203/SGD 325/MYR 1,010) for a 4 days 3 nights Tokyo trip. If  for example, you’re able to book a PHP 7,000/JPY 15,387 (USD 136/EURO 115/SGD 185/MYR 5775) roundtrip ticket via Jetstar during seat sale, this itinerary will cost you around JPY 42,414/PHP 19,296 (USD 375/EURO 318/SGD 509/MYR 1,585).

If you follow the above itinerary and you’ll be staying in a dorm/bunk bed or capsule hotel, prepare around: JPY 24,548/PHP 11,168(USD 217/EURO 184/SGD 295/MYR 918) for a Tokyo 4 days 3 nights trip.  If you’re able to snag a PHP 7,000/JPY 15,387 (USD 136/EURO 115/SGD).

Cheap Tokyo Tour Packages

This metropolis is considered as one of the greatest cities in the world. Its highly efficient transportation system, high tech electronic stores, unique fashion and entertainment districts, traditional temples, and variety of great restaurants are just some of the things that keep everyone coming back. In Tokyo, you’ll get to see famous attractions like the Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji Temple, Tsukiji Market, Harajuku, and the iconic Shibuya crossing.

Want to explore Tokyo on a budget? Book your airline tickets and hotel rooms at the same time to get cheaper prices. With Traveloka’s latest Tokyo tour packages, planning your vacation tour is simpler, faster, and more practical. You can choose from the various packages that we offer, and modify as you like to enjoy the ultimate adventure in Tokyo.

About Tokyo

Past and future collide in this mega city. As you walk around the streets, it’s a common sight to see traditional temples seamlessly blending in with modern buildings. Japan’s capital is one of the most famous cities in the world and it is well known for its rich culture. It’s the mish mash of things like sumo wrestling, anime, temples, shrines, onsens, and mecha that make it so unique and interesting as a city.

Some top tourist spots you’ll want to check out include Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Skytree, Senso-ji, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Tsukiji Market, Golden Gai, Shibuya Crossing, Nakameguro, and Edo Museum.

Try singing at a karaoke, eating at a sushi bar, wearing a traditional kimono, watching a Sumo match, playing baseball at a batting cage, or shopping around Harajuku. These are just some of the activities you can include in your bucket list.

Getting around in Tokyo

Because of their efficient train systems, it’s fairly easy to get around the metropolis. The circle line that connects all the major city centers is the Yamanote Line. Other subway lines you might use a lot in the city include the Ginza line, Marunouchi line, and the Hibiya line.

If you’re coming from Narita Airport, you can get into the city via the Keisei railway. Meanwhile, Keikyu railway connects Haneda Airport to Tokyo.

Aside from the trains, which are only available until around 11pm to 12am, you can also opt to ride a taxi. These are a bit more expensive than riding the train but they available during later hours and you can easily spot them around the whole city.

Top tourist attractions & activities in Tokyo

Have an epic solo adventure throughout Tokyo or enjoy all that the mega city has to offer with your friends or loved ones. Prepare your bucket list and check out these fun activities and top tourist destinations in Tokyo.

  • Meiji Shrine

Meiji Shrine

A classic must-see, this shrine can be found adjacent to Yoyogi Park and together they make up a relatively large forested portion of the city. The wide entrances are marked by the large torii gates and after walking for a few minutes, you’ll find the main shrine complex. This is where both locals and tourists can partake in Shinto activities like making offerings and buying amulets. The shrine is open from sunrise to sunset and there is no fee to enter the grounds.

  • Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree

This attraction is an all in one broadcasting tower, observation deck, and restaurant. Guests can view the Tokyo metropolis from the top but many people also prefer viewing it and taking pictures of it from afar because of its iconic shape against the skyline. The tower is open from 8am to 10pm and the entrance fee can cost around 2060 yen to 4000 yen depending on the type of ticket you get.

  • Senso-ji Temple

Senso-ji Temple

This famous buddhist temple is also known Asakusa Kannon Temple. Shopping streets lead up to the colorful temple complex. The shops in the surrounding area sell traditional souvenirs like fans, yukatas, and even local snacks. The temple grounds are always open and there is no entrance fee.

Nakameguro

If you’re dropping by Tokyo during the cherry blossom season, this is one of the best spots to watch the bloom. While you’re here, you can take great shots of the cherry blossom petals floating in the Meguro river. The quiet neighborhood is also home to trendy cafes and hip boutiques.

  • Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing

You can’t leave the city without stopping by Shibuya to experience the crossing yourself. During halloween, you’ll find Shibuya brimming with locals and tourists dressed in costume and having fun. Aside from the crossing itself, people also come here for the Hachiko statue, which is just in front of Shibuya station.
