Visiting the Blue Lagoon Cyprus (Paphos): Everything you need to know!

Clear water of the blue lagoon in Paphos region Cyprus

Flag of Cyprus

Where is the blue lagoon Cyprus?

The blue lagoon in Cyprus is located in the region of Paphos, on the western side of the island. On the north-western tip of Cyprus, you’ll find the Akamas Peninsula National Park of which the blue lagoon is part of.

How to visit the blue lagoon in Paphos, Cyprus?

The best way to visit the blue lagoon is by boat. Several tour companies run daily cruises along the Akamas coast towards the blue lagoon and the most convenient starting point is the fishing village Latchi on the northern tip of Paphos. From the city of Paphos in the south, it’s only an approximate 1-hour drive on the fast road to the north of Cyprus.

The journey is easy if you own a rental car. However, there are also busses leaving from the city of Paphos to Latchi – just plan enough time. The following two bus routes will bring you to Latchi:

  • 618 Paphos Harbour to Karavella + 645 Karavella to Polis + 622 Polis to Latchi
  • 648 Coral Bay to Polis + 622 Polis to Latchi

If you don’t want to get to the departure port independently, you can book a boat cruise around the blue lagoon including pickup from your hotel in Paphos in advance online here !

To make your trip more comfortable and convenient, you can rent a car using Rentalcars , where you will be able to choose the most suitable option for you in advance

There are several tour agencies offering a cruise around the blue lagoon Cyprus. In my opinion, the offered services are rather similar. Personally, I went with a company called Alkion and had a good experience. During the summer months, most tour companies offer cruises two times a day – one in the morning (around 10:30am) and one in the afternoon (around 2pm).

Some companies also offer a sunset cruise in the evening. Since there are so many tour agencies, I don’t think that booking in advance is mandatory. While I walked around the harbour, I could spot all the different agencies and boats promoting their tours and it seemed to be easy just to walk around, compare prices and choose one of the agencies.

I paid 20€ for my blue lagoon Cyprus cruise with Alkion (children only pay half of the price). Some companies also offer barbecue on deck – however, expect to pay a little bit more.

You could also visit the Akamas national park and the blue lagoon Cyprus by car / jeep. However, please keep in mind that the roads are rather adventurous and therefore, a four-wheeler is needed. Some agencies also offer jeep safaris around the Akamas national park, which might be the more convenient solution.

My boat tour to the blue lagoon Cyprus

I was on the morning cruise, and once the boat was full, we left the harbour around 10:30am and started our boat journey towards the blue lagoon. There’s a sun deck on top (which I avoided most of the time due to the incredible heat in August), a sitting area below with tables and benches as well as the lower deck, where you can see the sea through the glass bottom. Most people spent their time at the sitting area.

Tables on the boat

While we were cruising along the Akamas coast, speakers gave us information about the rock formations at the coast and the national park every now and then in Greek and English. From the boat, you’ll see the famous “Baths of Aphrodite“ as well as several other bays and points of interest.

At the blue lagoon of Paphos, Cyprus

After about an hour, we arrived at the beautiful blue lagoon of Paphos, Cyprus! Our boat stopped, and we had enough time to go for a swim in the crystal-clear water. While there were several other boat companies, I didn’t experience the lagoon as too crowded (although I visited during peak season in August).

Every boat seemed to have its own space and the passengers were able to jump into the water and go for a swim. Life jackets were provided if needed. The water was very warm but refreshing. Since its so clear, the blue lagoon of Cyprus is also perfect for snorkelling. On board, we got offered complimentary wine, soft drinks and watermelon. At the bar, you’re also able to purchase other snacks.

After around one hour at the blue lagoon, everyone went back on the boat and we continued our journey back to Latchi harbour. Around 1:30pm, our boat arrived in Latchi.

Visiting the blue lagoon Cyprus – my review

I enjoyed my cruise to the blue lagoon in Paphos to the fullest and it’s been certainly one of my highlights on my recent trip around Cyprus. The Akamas coastline is stunning and a boat journey is probably the best way to visit and explore the national park.

Generally, the region of Paphos has much to offer and I can only recommend everyone to explore the area instead of only staying in Paphos town. Cyprus is beautiful – and the blue lagoon is certainly one of Cyprus’ big highlights!

You NEED to visit the Blue Lagoon Cyprus! | Incredible Paphos Boat Trips in the Akamas National Park

The Blue Lagoon Cyprus

Set in the stunning Akamas National Park, the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus is a perfect place to visit for a relaxing day trip. You can even hire a boat to drive there yourself – we HIGHLY recommend this, even if you have no experience!

It is the biggest lagoon in the Akamas peninsula, and the most popular – for very good reason!

There’s a small beach area, which has quite a few rocky ledges but it does have sandy areas that you can sunbathe on.

Luckily, as the water tends to be so clear, you can usually see the places to avoid.

That’s the real attraction here though – the water. It’s crystal clear, warm and just incredible to swim and snorkel in.

The bottom of the lagoon is mostly soft and sandy, which means it’s a great place to enjoy for all of the family without worrying about getting hurt.

Plenty of fish live amongst the larger rocks too so don’t be startled if you see some!

Ways To Get To The Blue Lagoon Cyprus

There are 3 main ways to reach the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus, and each has its own merits. You can take a boat tour and sit in the bay, hire a buggy to drive to the beach or rent a boat and drive it there yourself. Take a look at the three different ways and decide for yourself which is the best!

Here are my top recommended tours to explore the Blue Lagoon beach and the surrounding areas!

Self Drive A Boat

Personally, I think this is not only the best way to visit the Blue Lagoon, but a bucket list activity you should try at least once when you’re in Cyprus anyway!

You don’t need ANY boating experience at all – you just need to be over 21 with a full driving licence from your home country.

There are a variety of boats to choose from, with varying horsepower, so pick the one most suitable for you and your group. Most of the boats seat between 6 – 8 people so not only will you be able to split the cost and enjoy a private boat trip for cheaper, it’s really fun to take turns driving!

Girl with arm in the air, driving a small boat in ocean

We drove a 150hp boat similar to this one and it was ideal. We started pretty slowly as we got used to the power and steering, but by the end of our trip, we were speeding along the coast like pros! I’m sure the actual professionals would disagree but we got really comfortable and it felt like we’d been doing it for years.

You’ll get a life jacket and a safety briefing before you get in the water, and then a trained staff member will take you out to your boat to teach you the ropes. There aren’t many rules, and it isn’t difficult to follow what they’re telling you so you really don’t have to worry if you’ve never done anything like this before.

There’s also a safety boat that drives up and down the coast to make sure that everyone is still okay. They’ll come up to your boat, introduce themselves as the safety team and then leave you be unless you have any worries or need help.

It’s a great reassurance because it really doesn’t feel like they’re watching over your shoulder, but they’re there in case you get into any difficulties.

White boat driving along the dark blue ocean

Once you’re confident with the basics of boat driving, your helpful instructor will actually guide you out of the harbour themselves – to avoid any unfortunate collisions!

As soon as you get to the open water, it’s your turn! The member of staff who helped you out will be picked up by another boat, so you can get started straight away. Trust me when I say it will only take a few minutes to get used to it, and you’ll be off having the time of your life!

I’m also prone to a bit of seasickness, so I was slightly worried about being out on the boat all afternoon. However, our first trip had been cancelled a few times due to bad weather and rough seas, so when we were told that it was a good day to be out on the boat, it was a relief to know that the water would be quite calm!

I honestly can’t recommend hiring a boat out to the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus enough. You can book for a few hours, half-day or full-day, but we recommend at least the half-day to fully enjoy the boat.

You can stop a few times along the way to the main lagoon in some of the little caves, bays and rock formations which add to the fun!

This first option is the easiest for people who just want to turn up, enjoy the Blue Lagoon and be taken back again.

My recommendation is to take a sightseeing boat trip because it also involves seeing other parts of the Akamas that you’d miss otherwise

Check out availability and possible deals below!

There are three options for the boat tours:

  • Take a sightseeing cruise which could include visiting the Troodos mountains as well as a Blue Lagoon tour
  • Get picked up from Paphos and taken to Latchi harbour
  • Drive yourself to the harbour and book a tour directly from the boat companies

Tour boat in the bule waters with people on top

You can book a Blue Lagoon Cyprus boat trip that includes complimentary juice, fruit, cake and wine. These also depart morning and afternoon so you can choose the best time to suit you. Don’t forget to book in advance, especially in the summer months as this type of trip is super popular.

This Wine Tasting and Blue Lagoon excursion is also a really fun way to explore the local area and see what the land has to offer too!

  • Tour Duration: 8 hours
  • Pickup Included: Yes
  • Lunch Included: No
  • Start Time: 8am

You’ll be picked up nice and early at a designated spot in Paphos and then start your journey up the coast. Depending on the day, the itinerary might change – if the water at the lagoon is calmer in the morning then you’ll go straight away, and if it’s going to be better for swimming in the afternoon then you’ll go then instead. It really doesn’t matter which order you do the activities in but it’s something to note!

You’ll stop to see the unique sea caves and the local banana plantations, as well as visit a winery to sample a few of their wines.

Lunchtime will be spent in the pretty fishing village of Latchi at a restaurant of your choice. Your tour guide will recommend places, but ultimately it is up to you where you eat. Check out some TripAdvisor reviews before you get there so that you aren’t wandering around for too long once you arrive – there isn’t a lot of spare time for lunch so you’ll want to grab something quickly.

There are a few cool photo opportunities on this tour – one is the Baths of Aphrodite . Legend has it that the Goddess of Fertility and Love, Aphrodite, bathed in a pool here amongst these gardens.

Another interesting place you’ll see is the Edro shipwreck. The boat got stuck in 2011 and the authorities felt it best to leave it where it was!

Rusty shipwreck from above in the water

If you only want to see the Blue Lagoon and aren’t interested in the surrounding areas, then obviously go for option 2 or 3. There aren’t huge differences between the two choices – it’s more about personal preference or ability (i.e. you don’t drive).

Making your own way to the harbour isn’t difficult, and you can enjoy a leisurely drive on the way. I’d recommend Pentaras Rentals if you are hiring a car from Paphos. We rented two different cars from there and they were reasonably priced, had great customer service and the cars felt safe.

If you’d prefer to be picked up from Paphos and taken to the harbour, then you can easily book a boat trip that offers this.

You’ll still get complimentary drinks, and plus a buffet lunch is included.

However, there are some really good tours that are worth considering that offer more than just a Blue Lagoon visit.

Hire A Buggy, Quad or 4X4

If you’re looking for an adrenaline boost before you go swimming, then hire a buggy or a quad bike to drive yourself into the bay! We have written a whole guide about hiring a buggy in Paphos here!

It’s a more flexible way to get there because you can choose when you go and how long you stay for.

One thing I would say about this option is that it can be very dangerous, and I would not recommend it for people who are not used to driving these types of vehicles.

Bumpy unsealed road on edge of mountain

If you hire a 4×4 car, then it is probably safer for families, but again, only if you’re a confident driver.

Talk to the company you want to hire from as not all cars will be insured for these types of roads – and some of the rental agencies put a tracking device on the car so they’ll know if you’ve been on the wrong kinds of roads or not!

The reason for this is that the road leading to the Blue Lagoon is narrow, bendy and unsealed. There are also some steep drops without barriers, so you just have to make sure you’re driving slower than you would usually and be more alert for oncoming traffic!

We hired two different cars from Pentaras Rentals and were very happy with them, so pay them a visit!

Where Is The Blue Lagoon Cyprus?

The Blue Lagoon is tucked away in the northwest cape of the Akamas National Park. It’s around 50km away from Paphos town centre and can take around 1 hour 30 minutes to get there.

The small fishing town of Latchi is only around 11km away, and depending on your method of transport can take between 30 minutes to an hour.

Below mountain area surrounded by blue ocean

You can also spot the Blue Lagoon from the peak of the Aphrodite Trail – there are some stunning views from the top of the mountains.

How Long Should You Spend At The Blue Lagoon Cyprus?

The amount of time you should spend at the Blue Lagoon differs depending on how you got there originally.

If you’ve taken a boat tour, then you’ll probably be there for between 1 and 4 hours (but this will be different for each tour). The tours that include other activities will only stay at the Lagoon for around an hour for swimming and snacking. It takes around 45 minutes to get there so that’s included in the tour duration.

Aerial shot of white boat in clear blue wateer

If you are visiting the Blue Lagoon independently, then I would say 4 hours is a good time to spend there! If you are hiring a boat, then make sure you add in enough time to actually drive there and back – hiring it for half a day will probably be enough.

Once you’re there, you can swim, snorkel and sunbathe but there are no kiosks, sunbeds or activities being run here so make sure you bring equipment, towels and a good book!

What Should You Take To The Blue Lagoon Cyprus?

Like I said before, there are no facilities at the Blue Lagoon, so you need to be fully self-sufficient.

Take anything you’d need for a desert island trip!

Food and water are obviously the most important items if you aren’t going on a boat tour. Bring easy things to eat like crisps, fruit and sandwiches.

You should also take more water than you think you need, especially in the height of summer! Even in November, we took a couple of 1.5l bottles with us and needed it all in just a few hours as it is so hot. There is also limited shade on the beach so there’s no escaping the sun!

Bring all of the essentials you would for any other beach day – here are my top recommendations.

Microfibre Poncho Towel

Need to change on a crowded beach? No more cowering behind a normal towel whilst someone holds it up! Need a compact towel that fits in your day bag? It's got that covered too. These have genuinely been a lifesaver over the years and there are literally no downsides!

Sun Bum SPF 50 Sunscreen

We all know what sunscreen is and we all know how important it is but why go with Sun Bum? They are cruelty-free and are compliant with the Hawaii 104 Reef Act meaning that you will be helping decrease the amount of damage sunscreens have to the environment that you are swimming in. If that hasn't convinced you then click through to find out even more.

GoPro HERO12 Black

The Go Pro Hero 12 takes the world-renowned Go Pro formula and hits even greater heights. The best of these has to be the Emmy award-winning HyperSmooth 6.0 for incredibly stable video during your wildest of travel adventures, and the front-facing screen for easy selfie and video capture! Find out even more by clicking through!

Greatever Snorkel Set

We all know how frustrating it can be to hire snorkels from local vendors as the quality tends to be below par, or they just immediately fog up. We have chosen the Greatever snorkel set due to its affordability, face fit, and anti-fog attributes, which all combined make for an excellent addition to your luggage!

Tummy Control Swimsuit

Looking for a stylish, flattering, complimenting swimsuit that shows off all of your best features whilst also being great for swimming and having fun? Then check out all of the incredible styles and colours these tummy control swimsuits come in.

WOWSUN Polarized Sunglasses

A decent pair of polarised sunglasses is difficult to get at a decent price, especially if you want them to look good. These from WOWSUN have lots of different styles (male/female) and colours to choose from and they are very affordable. Click through to see all of your options.

ANLUKE Water Shoes

You will be extremely surprised how often you will be thinking to yourself that you WISH you had some water shoes. For example, any water activity/excursion you find yourself doing, or finding out the beach is not quite as soft and sandy as you originally thought. Hurting your feet, not being able to participate, or getting one of your pairs of shoes can ruin an experience.

Panasonic LUMIX LX10

When Should You Visit The Blue Lagoon Cyprus?

There are a couple of things to think about when planning the timing of your trip to the Blue Lagoon.

Summer is obviously a great time to visit Cyprus because of the hot weather, but it is also incredibly busy during this time. You might struggle to book tours – and even if you do manage to snag a spot, there will be hundreds of other tourists doing the same thing as you!

Read More: Is Paphos Old Town Worth Visiting?

We visited Cyprus from the end of October until the end of November, and it was PERFECT. There were still tourists around so it didn’t feel like a ghost town, but there were also plenty of spaces on the tours that we went on and not many other people around.

It only rained once during our trip, but one of our boat tours was cancelled at first because the water was becoming a bit rough. After a few days, it calmed down and we had the ideal conditions for being at sea.

Paphos boat trips go to the Blue Lagoon for a reason

I personally think that September would be a fantastic time to visit Cyprus. The peak season is slowing down, and hotels are reducing their prices but the weather is still gorgeous. April/May would also be a good time to visit for similar reasons.

So, if you’re looking forward to a trip to the Blue Lagoon on your trip to Cyprus, make sure you think about these things!

Once you’re in the country, consider what time of day is best to go.

If you’re on a tour, you won’t get much say and the operator will plan accordingly so you don’t have to worry.

If you’re going independently, I would say to get there from around 11 am and spend the best part of the afternoon at the Lagoon. Too early and it might be a bit chilly, and too late and there will be more people around and it won’t be as picturesque!

The Blue Lagoon is definitely one of the most isolated and paradise beaches in Cyprus. All thanks to its not-so-easy access.

The Blue Lagoon of Cyprus is located in Akamas Peninsula National Park, in the region of Paphos. It is a sheltered bay with warm water and a sandy bottom. The best way to visit this place is to rent a boat in the small village of Latchi. Latchi is an easy drive from Paphos (1h) or Limassol (1.5 – 2h).

Getting to Latchi by bus is possible, but it is quite time-consuming: you´d need to head to the nearest town of Polis and then to catch another bus to Latchi from there.

Sailing the Mediterranean on the boat in Paphos, Cyprus

Once you get to Latchi, you can walk the town´s beach promenade and check for tour operators who run the boat cruises to The Blue Lagoon. During the summer months, you´ll have several cruise options throughout the day. Some companies have boats with glass bottoms at the lower deck.

However, I visited Cyprus in May and we opted for renting a small boat. It was three of us and we paid around 90 euros for 3h. During the peak season, it´s around 200 euros for 4h and up to 5 people can go.

Organized tours

A group tour is a more budget-friendly option. You´ll pay around 20 euros for a half-day cruise (including snacks, drinks, and free snorkeling equipment). In the summer months, you also have more options, like sunset cruise, cruise with bar and barbecue, etc.

There are two other ways to get to The Blue Lagoon from Latchi – hiking and driving. Although the roads of Akamas Peninsula National Park are quite adventurous, you must have a 4×4 jeep or a quad to navigate there. Nevertheless, you should rather book a tour/group safari at one of the local companies in Latchi just not to drive there yourself.

Top-rated tours to Blue Lagoon:

  • Protaras: Blue Lagoon and Turtle Cove Boat Trip
  • Jeep & Boat: 4×4 Tour + Boat to Blue Lagoon + BBQ On Board
  • Protaras: Family cruise with freshly cooked BBQ lunch
  • Protaras: Adults Only cruise with freshly cooked BBQ lunch
  • From Latsi: Blue Lagoon Private Yacht Day Trip with Drinks
  • Ayia Napa: Explore Blue Lagoon on board of luxury SeaRay 375

For a hike, you´d need to leave your car near Baths of Aphrodite and walk 1 -1.30 h.

The views of the seaside from the boat in Cyprus

The 50 Shades of Blue

If you´re visiting by boat, the watercolor will not stop surprising you even for a second. I´ve lost count of all the shades of blue on the way to The Blue Lagoon. From cobalt blue and azure to turquoise and electric blue: this place is literally 50 shades of blue…

Once we arrived at The Blue Lagoon I couldn´t believe my eyes how crystal-clear water was. There were several boats in the area but it didn´t feel touristic or overcrowded. As it was the beginning of May the water was a bit refreshing, but it was a sunny day, so it was fine. Although, if I´m to be completely honest with you – even a quick gaze at this peaceful paradise would be worth the road.

The blue waters of the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus near Paphos

The Blue Lagoon of Cyprus has a reef area perfect for snorkeling or diving, as you can see plenty of fish around the rocks.

Why is The Blue Lagoon in Cyprus so romantic?

Despite the obvious natural beauty, there´s another fact that adds magic to the area – in Greek Mythology the seashore of Paphos was the birthplace of  Aphrodite , the Goddess of Love and Beauty.

On your way from Latchi to the Blue Lagoon is nestled another place – The Baths of Aphrodite . It is a small cool pond where according to the legend the Greek goddess used to bath, and also where she met her lover Adonis . Nowadays you can´t swim in the pond, but you can take your significant other to the nearest Blue Lagoon instead and bath together like the Greek Goddess once did!

While driving back from Latchi, make sure not to miss another Aphrodite site in Cyprus rich in legends –  Petra tou Romiou or Aphrodite’s rock . This stone is the birthplace of the beautiful goddess who had emerged from the sea foam. Aphrodite is associated with youth, beauty, love and new life. According to an ancient legend, the Aphrodite Rock and its surroundings possess magical properties . Rumor has it that those who swim around the boulder three times anti-clockwise would be blessed with eternal beauty. Another belief claims that if you swim in the area at midnight or find a heart-shaped stone on the shore you´ll find your epic love.

Swimming The Blue Lagoon in Cyprus

Swimming in the blue waters of Akamas National Park is absolutely one of the most romantic travel experiences around the world you don´t want to miss. It´s no surprise that Cyprus is a popular wedding and honeymoon destination. What could possibly be more amorous than following the steps of the Goddess of Love?

There were 9 crew members on board at the time of the wreck. The crew was rescued and evacuated to Paphos by a British-owned Phantom II helicopter. EDRO III weighs approximately 2,345 kg and is 80 metres long. According to the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association, the ship is completely free of cargo and fuel and lies on the sea cliffs at an angle of 11-12 degrees. Landing on the ship is no longer allowed as it is dangerous. Together with CIMEXTA, the German ship-lifting company, the tasks of safely removing residual diesel, hydrocarbons and other marine pollutants from the ship and sealing the hull were assigned to the Cyprus Ship-lifting Company. All tasks were completed in October 2013.

Blue Lagoon Akamas

Boat Cruise to the Blue Lagoon in Akamas

Although not as popular as the Blue Lagoon in Cape Greco, the Blue Lagoon in Akamas is stunning. We visited the lagoon as part of a boat cruise with the tour company Cyprus Mini Cruises and had a great time.

This post contains affiliate links.

Blue Lagoon Akamas

How to visit the Blue Lagoon in Akamas

The Blue Lagoon is part of Akamas Peninsula National Park. The best way to visit is to do a boat trip from Latchi (also spelled Latsi) as the road to the lagoon requires a 4×4 according to some online reviews. I saw some bikers perched upon a rock overlooking the lagoon, so that’s an option as well. You can also rent a quad bike; just be careful!

We booked the cruise online using Viator, my fav site for booking activities. You can book for yourself here too. Because my credit card doesn’t have 3D authentication, some direct sites don’t work for me. With Viator, my credit card never gets blocked and I don’t need to worry about a local site accepting it.

Blue Lagoon Akamas Cyprus Mini Cruise

The Blue Lagoon is located about 2.5 hours from Larnaca . Visiting the Blue Lagoon in Akamas was one of the highlights of our itinerary and so we spent the night in the small town of Latchi, where the boat cruise leaves from.  Because the country is so small, you could easily visit the Blue Lagoon as part of a day trip from Larnaca.

Blue Lagoon Akamas Boat Cruise Itinerary

Boat cruises in Cyprus are usually around €20 per adult, and this was no exception.

The boat leaves at 10:30am from Latchi Harbour . Be sure to get there at least 10 minutes beforehand because the boat left a couple of minutes before 10:30!

On the way to the lagoon, we pass the Baths of Aphrodite and a small mountainside church. The ride to the lagoon takes about 35 minutes. If you get lucky, your captain may spot some dolphins and cruise by them. We didn’t see any on our trip, but it’s possible.

akamas church hillside

Once at the lagoon, we had just under an hour to enjoy the incredible water of the Blue Lagoon in Akamas.

The cruise says it’s from 10:30am- 1pm,  but we arrived back in the harbor at 12:40pm . We wish we had the extra 20 minutes at the lagoon, but maybe that is extra time built in for issues.

The Blue Lagoon in Akamas

The lagoon is part of the bay in Akamas and so the water here is warmer than in the surrounding areas . The boat anchors close to the cliffside and you can easily swim up and lounge on the small, rocky beach. The water in the Blue Lagoon is crystal clear! Some people had goggles with them, but we didn’t see any fish swimming about.

Blue Lagoon Akamas

Pictures can’t do this place justice!

What’s included in the boat cruise?

Fruit and a free drink are included during the ride. There is a bar on the boat where you can purchase drinks for € 4-5, and coffee and cold drinks for €1-3.

Blue Lagoon Akamas Cyprus Mini Cruise bar

My sister and I got two mojitos during our journey. Near the end of our time at the Blue Lagoon, watermelons were cut and free wine was distributed. We each took 2 cups with us, hehe.

Blue Lagoon Akamas Cyprus Mini Cruise

During the ride, a staff member will take a picture of you and your crew to print on a souvenir keychain . It cost €5. If you want this, make sure you have a cool background—my sister and I just had the backboard of the boat in our picture. Ha.

Blue Lagoon Akamas Cyprus Mini Cruise

Blue Lagoon Boat Cruise Options

We chose Cyprus Mini Cruises because they have a lot of great, reliable reviews online. On Google Maps and Viator , Cyprus Mini Cruises looks like it has the most reviews in the area.

Blue Lagoon Akamas

Besides the morning boat cruise, you can also do an afternoon trip that leaves Latchi harbor at 1:15pm, do a full-day trip from 10:30am-2:30pm or take a sunset cruise . Check out all the options with Cyprus Mini Cruises here .

There are several other companies with boat cruises at Latchi Harbor . If you want to try something different, check out this glass-bottom boat cruise . I saw this boat while we were at the Blue Lagoon and they have a glass bottom (as the name suggests!). You need to call or fill in a booking form to make a reservation.

Alternatively, if you have a full day, check out this blue lagoon tour that combos the boat trip with a visit to a local winery, the nearby shipwreck, sea caves, and Aprodites rock!

See what other people say

We enjoyed the trip very much. Thanks

Nice trip with all the famous spots, blue lagoon boat trip was good, they gave us drinks and fruits on the way back to Latchi.

Very nice excursion with all the nice places to visit, boat trip was very nice too, our guide was a top notch! Very caring to us!

It was a very nice trip, boat trip was excellent and staff are very cool.

Well organized trip , a combination of a tourists bus and a boat. The blue lagoon cruise was amazing. The boat staff was friendly and helpful ( Latchi queen). I gave only 4 stars because of the poor visit in the winery of the last highlight. There are much better quality wineries around to visit. Liga and the driver George were professionals.

The eco retreat near Paphos in western Cyprus.

Off-grid Cyprus: luxury yurt retreat shows off another side to the island

A hillside eco-retreat makes a great base for connecting with nature and exploring the coast and mountains around Paphos

‘T his whole project started as an experiment,” says Pawel Sidorski, who swapped his life in the European hotel industry to pursue his vision of sustainable luxury, opening Yurts in Cyprus , near Paphos in west Cyprus, in 2013. “I wanted to pioneer an off-grid lifestyle and create a place for people to connect with nature without sacrificing comfort,” he says.

Pawel’s three handmade Mongolian yurts and log cabin, tucked away in 2.5 acres on a hill overlooking the Stavros tis Psokas valley, offer just that. We stayed in the spacious Qadan (meaning “cliff” in Mongolian), which sits on the edge of the property – hammock, table and chairs ready for sundowners or stargazing. Inside, there’s a super-comfy wrought iron double bed, rugs, stove, coffee-making kit, Bluetooth speaker and wifi – you name your creature comfort and the attentive Pawel has thought of it.

The other two yurts, as well as Koliba, the newly built cabin, are family-friendly. Set several metres apart to afford privacy, all have outside showers and compostable loos that use a combination of sawdust and bokashi to dispose of waste. There is also one conventional loo for “those who want to try being closer to nature,” says Pawel, “but don’t want to compromise their comfort in the name of water conservation and keeping the aquifer clean!”

The luxurious interior of one of Pawel Sidorski’s yurts.

Reached by a long gravel track, Pawel’s eco-retreat is the last inhabited property before entering the forested Troodos mountains 2km to the east. It feels blissfully remote, but the tiny village of Simou is nearby and it is only a 20-minute drive to the small port of Polis Chrysochou and Latchi fishing village. You can take a boat trip from here, some glass-bottomed and offering dips in the celebrated Blue Lagoon, or go for a swim on the beach before a blowout fish meze at Y&P Fish Tavern , part of the Latchi Hotel.

Pawel himself lives in the welcoming Straw House, home also to four cats and Shuki, a 10-year-old pointer cross rescue dog. “His name comes from śukravāsaraḥ , meaning Friday in Sanskrit,” says Pawel, “the day our paths crossed at the local dog shelter.” Pawel will provide guests with a GPS for self-guided hikes or bike rides, but many prefer Shuki as a guide. “He’s well known for accompanying guests,” says Pawel, who hosts yoga and pilates sessions in the pavilion beneath the house and advises on local rock-climbing, water sports and horse riding. For the latter, George’s Ranch offers riding for all levels, but experienced riders can take a 90-minute sunset hack across the clifftops and sandy beaches of the Sea Caves natural caverns, stopping at Agios Georgios, a small, natural harbour in the Akamas Peninsula National Park, home to gorges, hiking trails and stunning bays, including the Blue Lagoon.

Back at the Straw House, breakfast in Pawel’s kitchen includes halloumi, scrambled eggs, olives and endless coffee. He will also cook a vegetarian or vegan supper for guests (€17pp or €10pp for under 12s). Mains might include baked courgette with rosemary and garlic, served with cinnamon rice, warm bread, salad and marinated chilli, or ajapsandali, a Georgian aubergine stew served with bulgur wheat and local sheep yoghurt.

Guests help themselves to local wine or beer, nicely chilled thanks to electricity generated by solar panels and a wind turbine. Only 2-4% of energy use is generated by a back-up diesel generator and, in 2021, Pawel installed a solar-powered well pump. “We are totally independent when it comes to water for our household, guests and our extensive irrigation system,” he says proudly.

One day I joined Pawel on an early-morning mountain bike (four are available to hire), doing a section of a 15km loop that passes through the abandoned Turkish villages of Istinjo, Melandra, Zacharia and Sarama, a legacy of the Turkish invasion of the island. The 1974 partition of Cyprus and the uprooting of residents is brought starkly to life. The landscape takes no sides, and the beauty is uplifting. We pass the medieval stone-built Skarfos Bridge on the Evretou river. It is an ancient Venetian bridge, poppies growing on its banks, and you can spot Skarfos watermill in the near distance. Evretou reservoir, itself home to two abandoned villages, is a birder’s paradise, and a good spot for fishing and foraging. You can see it on the track as you drive up to Pawel’s yurts.

A yurt in the eco retreat, the last inhabited property before entering the forested Troodos mountains.

“I’ve seen mouflon on these trails,” Pawel tells me, referring to an endangered wild sheep famed for its sickle-shaped horns and endemic only to the Troodos mountains. Sadly, we don’t spot any when we visit Omodos, a village in the north-western Troodos with a lovely main square with tavernas and cafés. While it’s a good starting point for hikes, unimpressed children might prefer a visit to the mouflon enclosure in the Troodos forestry station near Stavros, where 30 of these shy, endangered marvels can be seen up close.

For grownups, there are different marvels on offer in the form of the Byzantine churches throughout the Troodos region. For me, the highlight was Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, or Church of St Nicholas of the Roof, an 11th century Byzantine monastery. This Unesco World Heritage site is 5km from the don’t-miss narrow cobbled village of Kakopetria on the Karkotis river in the Troodos foothills.

This church is distinctive not only for its pitch timber roof and domed cross-in-square structure, but for its magnificent frescoes, dating from the 11th to 17th centuries, that cover every wall. Particularly notable is a rare portrayal of a breastfeeding Madonna, a magnet of which has been on my fridge ever since our visit. In my head, meanwhile, I carry the promise of a return to the hopefulness and warm welcome offered by Pawel, a man who continues to build – and share – his dream of sustainable tourism. “It’s so rewarding,” he tells me. “I am grateful for every visitor.”

What Our Customers Say

Nafsika II Half Day Cruise

Great trip, to the most beautiful water. Plenty of space on the boat and everything went smoothly. Polite staff.

Terence M, UK

What a Day!

Took the boat cruise to the blue lagoon from 16:00 to 19:40, what an amazing day it was. The guys on the ship excellent in every sense, detailed tour, very cautious on covid terms, food was special and generally a very nice and smooth trip. Will definitely recommend and re-visit. Thank you guys ??

Stephanos Christou, Cyprus

Wonderful Experience

Having already been on the Koulla last year we decided to try the evening cruise on the Nafsika and we were not disappointed. The boat was not crowded at all and the crew did their best to make everyone feel safe and enjoy themselves. We stopped at the Blue Lagoon for almost two hours and while everyone was enjoying a relaxing swim the crew prepared the BBQ and the couscous which were delicious. Definitely, a must if you’re in Cyprus!

Robert I, Portugal

Amazing Boat Trip!

Last cruise of the year! I was very satisfied with the tour company, from the beginning, when I made the first contact with Theo, until the last second of the tour. The blue lagoon is beautiful! Due to Covid-19, they are not offering Snorkel, but we had wine, fruit and even cold beer on board! The staff very polite and kindly answered my questions. They have a photographer on board to click the best moments! Highly recommended!

LuTslks, UK

Gorgeous Trip, Great Boat!

There are a few boats that make the trip from Latchi (Latsi) to the Blue Lagoon in a convoy each morning and afternoon. The water tends to be stiller in the morning, so go early and come back for lunch. The greats thing about this boat are 1) the height: you get great views from the top deck. 2) the top sun deck – if you want sunshine, go up top, there’s plenty of room. If it’s too hot, the tables downstairs will give you shade 3) the crew were great 4) the beers were cold 5) the back deck diving area was perfect for diving into the crystal clear water 6) the ladder out of the water was long, so it was easy to get out of the water without having to pull yourself up 7) the price: at under €20 for a 3-hour cruise along the most beautiful coastline and then swim, for an hour, in the clearest waters anywhere in the world. Book it. You’ll love it.

Amazing Food and Trip!

Most amazing BBQ lunch in the middle of the blue lagoon, they even made fresh garlic bread which was to die for! We were really well looked after and it was a lovely relaxing boat trip, which I definitely recommend! FYI – at the moment they are not providing snorkelling equipment due to Covid-19 so bring your own

O n a trip to Iceland , you'll have no shortage of breathtaking scenery around you and once-in-a-lifetime experiences to take part in.

Iceland is one of the best spots in the world to see the northern lights, a bucket list item for many. It's also home to multiple relaxing geothermic pools and unique black sand beaches.

If you have a trip to Iceland in the works, check out this travel guide for places to stop on your vacation .

GREECE TRAVEL GUIDE: POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATIONS FROM ATHENS TO THE ISLANDS

  • Take a relaxing dip in the Blue Lagoon
  • Explore the Snæfellsjökull Glacier
  • Be in awe of Iceland's black sand beaches
  • Visit Europe's largest glacier
  • Go to Vatnajökull National Park
  • Take a Golden Circle tour
  • Enjoy Reykjavík's nightlife
  • Stop by Skogafoss waterfall
  • See the northern lights

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's many geothermal spas and its most popular. The Blue Lagoon is located very closely to Keflavik International Airport, making it the perfect stop at the beginning or the end of your getaway.

A dip in the Blue Lagoon is sure to provide you with relaxation and breathtaking views.

READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP

Western Iceland is where you can find Snæfellsjökull National Park, home to the beautiful glacier.

Snæfellsjökull was declared a national park in 2001 and is only one of three national parks in the country .

Snæfellsjökull is described in Jules Verne's famous novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

There are several black sand beaches in Iceland that are truly a sight unlike any other.

A GUIDE TO SIGHTSEEING IN ITALY: A ROMAN ADVENTURE AWAITS YOU

One of these is Reynisfjara, a black sand beach good for seeing but not for swimming because of the cold water and strong currents that make it dangerous.

You can also see the sparkle of Diamond Beach while in Iceland. This black sand beach is full of diamond resembling ice, making the water shimmer and shine.

Again, Diamond Beach is another beautiful landmark, but avoid swimming in this water, mainly because of the icebergs that can cause injury.

Vatnajokull glacier is Europe's largest. You can explore the glacier on foot or rent a snowmobile to see more in a short time.

There are so many breathtaking ice caves to explore throughout the glacier.

Vatnajokull may look familiar to you, even if you haven't visited Iceland before, as it was featured in the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and two "James Bond" films.

Vatnajökull National Park is where you can find Skaftafell nature reserve. Skaftafell nature reserve has been a part of Vatnajökull National Park since 2008. Glacier lagoons, black sand and mesmerizing rock formations can all be found here.

EXPLORING THAILAND'S TAPESTRY OF TRADITION, ADVENTURE, TIMELESS BEAUTY

It is just about 45 minutes from Diamond Beach.

Taking a Golden Circle tour is a must-do activity on a trip to Iceland. The Golden Circle is a scenic route where you'll be able to see Iceland in all its beauty.

How much time you carve out for this depends on how long you want to spend at each stop. You can easily spend days exploring this area, or you can rent a car and spend a few hours driving around.

There are three main stops part of the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall.

Reykjavík is filled with bars and restaurants , making the city a great spot for thriving nightlife at the end of a busy day exploring.

While here, you can also visit Hallgrimskirkja Church and stop by one of the many local swimming pools throughout the city.

AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT THE LAND DOWN UNDER

Skogafoss waterfall is a breathtaking beauty you will not want to miss when traveling to Iceland.

Get your cameras ready for this stop, because you'll want to snap a picture of you in front of the enormous waterfall. It's not a bad idea to pack a pair of waterproof shoes on your visit.

You don't need to carve out too much time for this, 30 to 45 minutes will do. Rainbows are very common here, so keep your eye out for that, too.

While in Iceland, you'll most likely be able to cross "see the northern lights" off your bucket list.

Making a plan to see the colorful lights in the sky is a little tricky, since their occurrence is not super predictable. That said, visiting between September and April, when the nights are long and dark, will give you the best possibility of seeing the aurora borealis.
