Country Music heavyweight, Josh Thompson, has made quite an impression on the Country charts and even the Billboard 200, with his two albums thus far in his career both being within the top 40. He also has five top 40 Country singles to his name.

Josh Thompson is originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin and decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee in 2005, where he found work as a songwriter, his first single being the song “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, the title track of his 2009 album. Following the success of this, Thompson signed with Columbia Records, and quickly released his “Beer on the Table” towards the end of 2009. It made it straight into the Country Charts, and would eventually peak at number 17.

After releasing an EP that featured the song and three others, he released the full-length album “Way Out Here” on February 23rd 2010. It would go on to peak at number 9 in the Country charts, and number 28 in the Billboard 200 chart, amassing sales of over 152,000. The title track from the album made it to number 15 in the County charts and to number 85 in the Hot 100. Thompson embarked on a 32-date tour with Eric Church, and then released his album’s third single “Won’t Be Lonely Long” on November 22nd 2010.

The following year, he co-wrote a song on Brad Paisley’s album “This Is Country Music”, called “A Man Don’t Have to Die”. He also transferred to RCA Nashville and released the single “Comin’ Around” which made it to number 31 on the Country charts, but he later announced that he would be leaving the major label to sign with Show Dog-Universal Music on which he would release the album “Turn It Up” on April 1st 2014.

Live reviews

I heard Beer on the Table on the radio when I was driving cross country back in 2010 and was compelled to find the artist and listen to more music. This is how I came across Josh Thompson, and became a huge fan of the country music artist. After listening to Way Out Here in its entirety countless times, I was desperate to see Thompson live. His writing has a magical touch, and is extremely catchy, so I found myself singing his music over and over again.

When I finally got the chance to see him live, it was just after the release of Turn It Up, so it was awesome to hear the new album performed live. He walked on stage with his guitar, and stood humbly centre stage to introduce himself. He opened the show eith Cold Beer With Your Name On It, and immediately brought the house down. There’s nothing quite like watching a musician playing their instrument and performing live, and seeing Thompson play his guitar really made me realise what a talented all round musician he is. After a few acoustic songs, he got his band out on stage and played through the rest of the album, including my favourite track, Wanted Me Gone. He was great at interacting with the audience and had everyone singing along which was a lot of fun. He’s really a pleasure to see live.

Although some of the country icons such as Willy Nelson and Hank Williams have earned their place over careers that span decades, other artists make more of an immediate impact on both the circuit and the charts. This is true of Wisconsin singer/songwriter Josh Thompson who has enjoyed two well received albums and a handful of country hits to find himself ascending venues at an alarming rate.

Despite the vastness of the space and the size of the crowd, Josh appears tonight with a cool and confident demeanour as with his trusty acoustic in hand there is very little that could go wrong. Although he has only been working the rounds since 2006, he has a great way of addressing the crowds and getting them involved throughout the night. There is no encouragement needed for 'Way Out Here' and 'Won't Be Lonely Long' whilst the finale of 'Beer on The Table' is sang back at deafening levels as Josh finds himself applauding the enthusiastic audiences.

Josh Thompson Joins Eric Church in 32-Date Jagermeister Country Tour

Thompson will continue his method of tour travel the old-fashioned way, packing up his trusty van (whom he fondly calls “Van-A-White”) and piling in his band mates and gear to get to the shows. Adorning “Van-A-White’s” antennae is the aptly named mustached baby-doll, “Van Wilder.” The current “Van Wilder” is a clone of the original, who was brazenly stolen first during a show at the Hard Rock in Boston, then stolen again in Nashville. With his debut single, “Beer on the Table,” rocking the country airwaves, and his forthcoming album Way Out Here getting praise from critics, Thompson already has a lot to celebrate. Josh Thompson Gets a ‘Feel’ for Texas With Cold Beers and Reindeers Tour

While Josh Thompson is now on the road for his Cold Beers and Reindeers concerts, he's not taking the eight-city December tour's name to heart -- not too early in the morning, anyway.

"It’s not even noon yet!" Thompson tells Taste of Country, laughing, when we ask if he's starting the day with a cold beer to celebrate the start of the tour. "I’m gonna stick with coffee. I’ve got a bunch of things I need to do today. I’m probably gonna have one or two tonight, though."

The set of dates, which takes Thompson from Victoria, Texas all the way to a closing night in Amarillo, Texas on Dec. 18, are allowing the 'Way Out Here' singer to cover new ground and play for fans in places that he's never had the opportunity to visit.

"You know, I’ve never been to any of these towns. I’m excited to see all of ‘em and get a feel for the country music fans in each market. I’ve always heard that Texas is one of the best places to play," Thompson says.

Thompson, who's as in tune with the outdoors as he is a recording studio, hopes to make the most of any downtime on the road.

"I like to hunt and fish, and if I get some off time I also write songs. I’ll try to do one of those, or maybe all of ‘em if I get enough time," Thompson reveals.

Of course, he may be devoting some of that time to meeting new fans, too. While most of his listeners are surely a pleasure to greet, Thompson is no stranger to, well ... strange encounters.

"Last week, a woman brought me a chicken leg, like a cooked chicken leg," Thompson says. "She was so proud of it because she raised it, killed it and cooked it herself. She brought it in a baggy for me to eat … it was a little weird." To our relief, Thompson chuckles and admits, "No, I didn’t eat it."

Josh Thompson Tours With Cold Beers and Reindeers

After spending the majority of 2010 on the road opening up for Eric Church , Brad Paisley and Hank Williams Jr. , Josh Thompson will hit the road next month for the first time as a headliner. The Cold Beers and Reindeers tour will sweep through some of the largest honky-tonks and clubs throughout Texas, including the Midnight Rodeo in Amarillo and the Wildhorse Saloon in Lufkin.

"I'm stoked about this tour for two reasons," Josh tells The Boot. "First of all, I'm headlining my own tour in the first year as a new artist and second it's all in Texas! I love it there, and it's important to me to have a presence in Texas. This is a perfect opportunity. I'm excited about it. Plus, I love the name Cold Beers and Reindeers!"

For the eight-show run, given the festive name since the dates all take place in December, the ' Beer on the Table ' singer will be joined by Broken Bow Records newcomer James Wesley and Josh's Columbia Nashville labelmate, Joanna Smith .

"I think it's going to be a blast," Joanna tells The Boot. "I just hope with a name like Cold Beers and Reindeers that I'm ready for this! The two things combined sound a little bit scary! [ laughs ] All I see are giant antlers and drunk people, and that's never a good combination! Other than that, I think it's going to be a blast! I love Texas, and I'm just excited to be out there and meet some fans."

The Cold Beers and Reindeers tour kicks off December 8 in Victoria, Texas, and will conclude December 18 in Amarillo. Tickets to all the shows went on sale November 11. For more information about the tour, visit the official website .

When will Justin Thomas tee off round 1 at the 2024 Valspar Championship? Tee time and pairing explored

J ustin Thomas will tee off Round 1 of the 2024 Valspar Championship on Thursday at 8:13 am ET. The 30-year-old will join Sam Burns and Sungjae Im on the 10th tee at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor. The World No.28 golfer will follow the group of Bud Cauley, Sam Ryder and Eric Cole.

Thomas is one of the 18 top 50 OWGR-ranked players on the Valspar Championship field. Unsurprisingly, he is also one of the top favorites to win this weekend. According to SportsLine, the 15x PGA Tour winner comes into the Florida event with 12-1 odds.

Notably, he is only bested by Xander Schauffele (+800) and Sam Burns (+1100) on the odds list. Thomas also topped the Tour's power rankings for the Valspar Championship.

For the unversed, Thomas has had a mixed start to the 2024 PGA Tour schedule. The star golfer started off the year with a T3 finish at The American Express. He finished T6 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T12 at the Phoenix Open and at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, he failed to make the cuts at the Genesis Open and The Players Championship.

Having crashed out of the competition on Friday last week, Thomas will be eyeing a solid top-three finish this Sunday. Apart from Schauffele and Burns, he will go up against the likes of Jordan Spieth (+1200) and Tony Finau (+2200), among others on Thursday.

It'll be interesting to see how the 2x Major winner fares in the Valspar Championship.
