Big junior day ahead for Iowa

Four-star wide receiver Joshua Manning will be back in Iowa City this weekend.

MORE: Class of 2023 Recruiting Board

The Iowa Hawkeyes are set to host their second junior day with a big list of impressive visitors headed to campus. In this update, we take a closer look at the top names, where the Hawkeyes currently stand in their recruiting, and much more.

After earning an offer from Iowa on his last campus visit back in November, four-star wide receiver Joshua Manning will be back in Iowa City for another look at the Hawkeyes this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Manning has seen his recruiting really take off in recent weeks with an offer list that now includes Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Washington, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Cincinnati, and Memphis.

For four-star offensive tackle Luke Burgess , it will be his first visit to Iowa this weekend as the big 6-foot-8, 273-pound Indiana native gets a chance to learn more about the Hawkeyes who offered back in December. Currently, Burgess is looking over an offer list that includes Iowa, Purdue, Arizona State, Boston College, Iowa State, Miami, Oregon, Florida State, Minnesota, Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana, Duke, Rutgers, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Kansas, Louisville, Cincinnati, Miami-OH, Toledo, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan.

Also making his first visit to Iowa City this weekend will be four-star offensive lineman Austin Siereveld from Ohio. Last month, the 6-foot-5, 315-pound Siereveld named a top six of Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati. In addition to his finalists, Siereveld also holds scholarship offers from Penn State, Purdue, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan State, West Virginia, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Toledo, and Ohio.

This weekend will mark the third trip to Iowa City for St. Louis defensive tackle Tyler Gant . In December, the 6-foot-3, 272-pound Gant named a top five of Iowa, Iowa State, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. In addition to his top five, the three-star prospect also holds scholarship offers from Nebraska, Boston College, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Arkansas State, Colorado State, and Eastern Michigan.

Illinois defensive back Kahlil Tate will be making his first trip to Iowa City after earning a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes in January. A three-star prospect, Tate's full list of offers includes Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, Nebraska, Minnesota, Mississippi, Colorado, Missouri, Syracuse, Tennessee, Kansas, Boston College, Ball State, Bowling Green, and Central Michigan.

Class of 2024 in-state running back Titus Cram has been a frequent visitor to Iowa City since his recruiting took off last year and will be back on campus this weekend. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound Bondurant native, who had 1,461 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns as a sophomore, is currently looking over scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, and Nebraska. Last season, he made it to three of Iowa's home games and one of the Hawkeyes' bowl practices as well.

With his cousin Louie Stec on the team, Class of 2024 tight end Grant Stec is very familiar with the Hawkeyes and will be visiting campus again this weekend. The Iowa coaching staff offered the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Stec during the season last fall and has stayed after him ever since. Currently, Stec holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan State, Arkansas, Iowa State, Tennessee, Louisville, and Cincinnati.

Last summer, Iowa was the first Power Five program to offer Class of 2024 wide receiver Cam Williams and has had him on campus a couple more times since then. This weekend, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Illinois native will be making a return trip for the Hawkeyes' junior day. Currently, Williams is looking over an offer list that includes Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Iowa State, Central Michigan, Toledo, and Northern Illinois.

Class of 2024 defensive end Eddie Tuerk is another Illinois native that has been a frequent visitor to Iowa City over the past year and will be back in town this weekend. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Tuerk was able to to make it to two of Iowa's home games last season as well as the Hawkeye Tailgater. Currently, Tuerk holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Tennessee, Mississippi, Minnesota, Iowa State, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Miami-OH, and Western Michigan.

Class of 2025 defensive end Gabe Kaminski already holds an offer from the Hawkeyes in his freshman year of high school and will be making a return trip this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Kaminski is actually visiting Iowa on Saturday and Wisconsin on Sunday. Currently, he holds scholarship offers from Iowa and Tennessee.

Iowa's most recent commit, offensive lineman Leighton Jones , will be among the visitors this weekend and has already turned his attention on becoming a recruiter for the Hawkeyes. A three-star prospect, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Jones chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Purdue, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Ohio, Kent State, Miami-OH, Toledo, Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, and Illinois State.

Coming off his third state wrestling championship a couple weeks ago, Iowa linebacker commit Ben Kueter will be on campus for the junior day this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Kueter, who plans to compete in both football and wrestling in college at Iowa, chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, and Missouri last fall.

Class of 2024 linebacker commit Cam Buffington will also be in town for the junior day this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 202-pound Buffington has been busy on the basketball court this winter as he averaged 19.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for Winfield-Mt. Union, who finished 21-3 on the season. Buffington committed to the Hawkeyes last summer shortly after earning a scholarship offer at their camp.

Jackson Carver was a name that Iowa took a look at in the Class of 2022, but he ended up deciding to reclassify to 2023. A Lacrosse star that played football for the first time last fall, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Carver has now picked up scholarship offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Duke, Louisville, and several Ivy League schools.

St. Louis wide receiver Chase Hendricks does not yet have an offer from the Hawkeyes, but could very well be one of the recruits that leaves with one after Saturday. A three-star prospect, the 5-foot-10, 173-pound Hendricks already holds offers from Texas, Purdue, West Virginia, Iowa State, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona State, and Wyoming.

Chicago Marist safety John Nestor is picking up interest from Iowa and will be among the visitors for the Hawkeyes this weekend. A three-star prospect, Nestor currently holds scholarship offers from Minnesota, Iowa State, Purdue, and Kansas along with Northern Illinois, Toledo, Miami-OH, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Kent State, and Western Michigan.

Illinois offensive lineman Austin Barrett , who visited Iowa for a home game last fall, will be back on campus to see the Hawkeyes this weekend. A three-star offensive lineman, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Barrett, whose older brother Dylan plays at Wisconsin, currently holds scholarship offers from Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, Iowa State, Syracuse, Duke, Kansas, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Akron, Toledo, Miami-OH, and Central Michigan.

Wide receiver Pierce Walsh , who likely projects at tight end in college, is another Illinois prospect that was able to visit Iowa during the season last fall and will be making a return trip this weekend. A three-star prospect, the 6-foot-4, 212-pound Walsh currently holds scholarship offers from Minnesota and Rutgers along with Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo, Miami-OH, Illinois State, and Eastern Illinois.

Glenbard West (IL) offensive tackle Chris Terek says he has been hearing from Iowa more and more recently and will be in town for the junior day this weekend. A three-star prospect, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound Terek currently holds scholarship offers from Duke, Kansas, Akron, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Kent State, Toledo, Illinois State, South Dakota, and Southern Illinois.

St. Louis offensive tackle Josh Gregory will be making his fourth visit to Iowa in the past year as the Hawkeyes continue to show quite a bit of interest. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Gregory, a teammate of fellow visitor Tyler Gant , is not yet ranked by Rivals but does already hold scholarship offers from Minnesota, Kansas, and Arkansas State.

A high school teammate of Iowa commit Chase Brackney , defensive tackle Hank Zilinskas will be making the trip to Iowa City from Colorado this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Zilinskas is not yet ranked by Rivals, but does already hold scholarship offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Nevada, Utah State, and Penn.

Linebacker K'Vion Thunderbird will be visiting Iowa City with teammate Kahlil Tate this weekend. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Thunderbird does not yet have an offer from the Hawkeyes, but the three-star prospect does already hold offers from Nebraska, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas, Wyoming, Central Michigan, Ball State, and Buffalo.

Class of 2024 running back Tony Phillips will be making his first visit with the Hawkeyes this weekend. The speedy 5-foot-7, 169-pound Phillips was a state champion in track in the 100 and 200 meter dash as a freshman last spring and had lead recruiter Seth Wallace out to visit his school as Iowa remains very interested. Currently, Phillips holds scholarship offers from Tennessee, Syracuse, Miami-OH, Florida Atlantic, and Massachusetts.

Class of 2024 defensive back Caleb Benning , whose father Damon played at Nebraska, will also be making his first visit to Iowa City this weekend. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound sophomore from Omaha Westside already holds scholarship offers from Nebraska and Minnesota with interest from several others.

Christian Jones is only a freshman in high school, but the Class of 2025 linebacker from Omaha already holds scholarship offers from Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Kansas. Could the Hawkeyes be next? To date, Iowa has only offered four prospects for 2025 , but the coaching staff will get a chance to know Jones and his family a little more this weekend on their first visit to Iowa City.

Iowa Football Junior Day Roundup Hawkeyes Host Key Recruits

' src=

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa Football kicked off an important recruiting stretch with a well-attended junior day event on Sunday. The Hawkeyes invited in verbal commitments in the 2024 Class, along with key targets in that cycle and beyond.

HawkFanatic.com caught up with some of the attendees and gathered feedback on their experience.

Here’s a rundown of what we found out:

Andrew Lovett,’25, ATH, Blue Island (IL) Eisenhower

Skinny: Lovett picked up an Iowa scholarship offer during his junior day visit. Only a sophomore, his recruitment has gotten off to a great start, and the Hawkeyes have positioned themselves well here.

His Thoughts: “Iowa could be a good fit for me because they focus on making sure their players get their degree and have something to do once football comes to an end.”

Other Reported Offers: Akron, Ball State, Louisville, Missouri, Syracuse, Tennessee.

Highlights: WATCH

Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman, ’24, WR, Coon Rapids (MN) High

Skinny: Cummings-Coleman visited Iowa for its game against Northwestern in late October. The Hawkeyes offered during that stop. He returned for junior day and has built a good relationship with the staff, especially position coach Kelton Copeland.

His Thoughts: “I think I can fit in the role that the (Iowa) coaches want filled, and I think I could thrive there.”

Other Reported Offers: Central Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Northern Illinois.

Koi Perich, ’24, S, Esko (MN) High

Skinny: Iowa offered Perich a scholarship during his campus visit back in November, when he watched the Hawkeyes take on Nebraska. He’s proven to be one of the better safety recruits in the region and more offers likely will be headed his way.

His Thoughts: “I like the (Iowa) coaches because they are real and tell you straight up, you’re either gonna like it here or you won’t. I appreciate that.”

Other Reported Offers: Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Washington, Wisconsin.

Caleb Pyfrom, ’24, OL, Omaha (NE) Central

Skinny: Pyfrom (6-5, 300) visited Iowa for a game in November and the experience drew him back for junior day. He’s one of the top offensive linemen in this part of the country and already reports an impressive list of offers.

His Thoughts: “It seems like a tight-knit community. They work hard and develop people into NFL players. I feel great about Iowa, and they are towards the top right now.”

Other Reported Offers: Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Wyoming.

Drew Miller, ’24, P, Mediapolis (IA) High

Skinny: Miller has regularly visited Iowa since the in-state school began showing interest a few seasons ago. The Hawkeyes have not offered a scholarship like Iowa State, NC State and Air Force. Time will tell if he chooses walking on the local team if it doesn’t eventually pull the trigger, especially if other opportunities come his way.

His Thoughts: “Iowa could be a fit for me because of the emphasis and success with special teams. The schemes and punt style they run complements my ability as a punter as well.”

Reported Offers: Iowa State, NC State, Air Force.

Austin Alexander, ’24, CB, Chicago Heights (IL) Marian Catholic

Skinny: The Hawkeyes jumped in with a scholarship offer for Alexander during his junior day visit. They joined some stiff competition for the former Wisconsin verbal pledge but stand a solid chance of landing him with a strong history at his position and only being a few hours from home.

His Thoughts: “Iowa could be a good fit for me because it’s close to home and I love how their defense gets turnovers. I felt great after I left Iowa it’s a place I would deeply consider and visit again.”

Other Reported Offers: Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Purdue, USC, Indiana, Syracuse.

Brevin Doll, ’24, RB, Adel (IA) A-D-M

Skinny: Ever since landing his first scholarship offer from Kansas State’s Chris Klieman on Jan. 26, Doll’s recruitment has taken off. He’s officially visited Iowa five times now, and the Hawkeyes are well-positioned. Now, it’s a matter of closing.

His Thoughts: “The player panel was one of the best parts (of Jr. Day). It’s good to hear first-hand from them about the day-to-day schedule and what to expect. I really like it there.”

Other Reported Offers: Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, South Dakota, Northern Iowa and Princeton.

Questions: Application

  • When will the application be available for families to set up a Students First ESA? The Students First ESA Application will be available in English and Spanish. The application window for the 2024-25 school year is open from 8:00 a.m. on April 16, 2024 through 11:59 p.m. June 30, 2024.
  • I have two students who will be attending an Iowa accredited nonpublic school in the 2024-25 school year. Do I have to create an application for each student? No. Only one application per family is needed. Parents/guardians can add multiple students from their household onto their application.

How should I answer the question "Did this student attend an Iowa accredited nonpublic school in the 2023-24 school year” if my child only attended the nonpublic school for less than the full year or on a part-time basis? If a student attended an accredited nonpublic school in 2023-24, in any grade K-12, even for a single day or in a part-time program, the parent or guardian should say "Yes" to the question of whether or not the student attended an accredited nonpublic school in 2023-24.

If the student is enrolling in kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year, regardless of the grade they attended in 2023-24, mark “No” to the same question.

  • Who sees my application information? Application information will only be viewed by parties necessary to complete the application verification and approval process, which includes Odyssey, the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Revenue.
  • How long will it take to know if my application has been approved? Applications that are able to be verified through the automatic review processes (e.g., verify through Iowa 2023 State Tax Return) should receive a response within 30 minutes of completion. Applications that require additional documentation to verify through a manual review will take additional processing time.
  • If I identify the school my child plans to attend within the Odyssey system, does that mean my child is enrolled at that school? No. Applying for enrollment to an Iowa accredited nonpublic school is a separate process from applying for an ESA through the Odyssey portal. Identifying the school that the student plans to attend in the Odyssey portal has no bearing on whether the student will be admitted to that school. Nonpublic school enrollment is unrelated to the application and selection process, and is strictly between the family and the school.

What information do I need to set up an ESA for my child? Parents/Guardians applying will need the following information to apply for an ESA:

Parent/Guardian Legal Name

Parent/Guardian Contact Information (email address and phone number that can receive text messages for updates) and Preferred Language (English or Spanish)

Parent/Guardian Current Residential Address

Address used for the 2023 Iowa State Tax Return (if different from current address)

Parent/Guardian ID (Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)

Parent/Guardian Spouse ID (Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)

Student’s Legal Name

Student’s Date of Birth

Student’s Residential Address (if it is different from the parent/guardian address)

Questions: Eligibility

What information will be used to verify Iowa residency? Proof of Iowa residency is based on the parent/guardian’s 2023 Iowa State Tax Return. If the parent/guardian did not complete a 2023 Iowa State Tax Return, additional documentation will be required. Details of approved documents to submit for residency verification are listed below.

Approved Residency Verification Documents

  • Option 1: Current Iowa Driver's License
  • Iowa Voter Registration Card
  • Claim of Homestead Credit or Military Tax Exemption on a home in Iowa
  • Active checking or savings account with an Iowa address
  • Other documents and correspondence initiated during tax periods with an Iowa address
  • Option 3: Other written and signed narrative from parent/guardian explaining the situation including a stated claim of Iowa residency, and other related documentation reflecting residency.
  • Does my student need to be enrolled full time? Yes. Students must be enrolled full time at an accredited nonpublic school and attend classes for at least 75 percent of the full-time schedule.
  • Can I use ESA funds to pay preschool tuition for my child? No. ESA funds can only be used for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • My child was in an accredited nonpublic school Pre-K program during the 2023-24 school year. Will my child qualify for an ESA as an incoming kindergartener for the 2024-25 school year? Yes. As long as Iowa residency can be established, all incoming kindergarteners who are five years of age by September 15, 2024 are eligible for an ESA in the 2024-25 school year, regardless of income.
  • If my kindergartener is eligible for an ESA for the 2024-25 school year, will a payment be received in the ESA again the following year when my child is in first grade? Annual ESA applications are required for all prospective ESA participants. A student who was approved and used an ESA in the 2023-24 school year is not subject to household income requirements for the 2024-25 school year. All Iowa resident K-12 students attending an Iowa accredited nonpublic school are eligible for an ESA in the 2025-26 school year.
  • My student attended an Iowa public school in the 2023-24 school year and will be enrolling in an Iowa accredited nonpublic school for the 2024-25 school year. Is my student eligible for an ESA even if we are above the income level? Yes. ESA applications from all Iowa resident students who attended a public school in the 2023-24 school year and choose to enroll in an accredited nonpublic school for the 2024-25 school year are eligible and not subject to income requirements.
  • Our children already attend an accredited nonpublic school. When are they eligible for an ESA? For the 2024-25 school year, ESA applications from students in families with household incomes at or below 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL) are eligible. See question 9 for household size and income requirements. Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, ESA applications from any Iowa resident K-12 student attending an accredited nonpublic school, including those who previously attended an accredited nonpublic school, are eligible for an ESA regardless of household income.
  • My children attend an Iowa accredited nonpublic school and we receive tuition assistance from a STO. Are we also eligible for an ESA? ESA eligibility is not dependent upon STO eligibility.

How do I know if my family meets the income requirements to be eligible for the ESA? In the 2024-25 school year, only families whose children were enrolled in an Iowa accredited nonpublic school in the 2023-24 school year but did not receive and use an ESA will need to meet income eligibility requirements. Families with a household income at or below 400% of the  2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines are eligible. See matrix below.

  • How is “household” defined? Household is defined in  Iowa Administrative Code 281-20(1) as the number of people who reside together and who are related by birth, marriage, adoption, legal guardianship, or by placement in the home through a state agency. “Household” includes parents, student applicants, and other children who share at least one parent by birth, by adoption, by a parent’s current marriage, or by placement in the home through a state agency.  A parent on military duty is considered to be residing in the household. If  “household” cannot be clearly determined through review of the submitted tax return, additional information may be requested to determine eligibility.
  • What line on my Iowa tax form is used to identify household income when determining eligibility for an ESA? For the 2024-25 school year, household size and income will be based on information reported on line 4 of the Iowa 2023 1040 tax form.
  • My family just moved to Iowa. Are my students eligible for an ESA? Yes. As long as Iowa residency can be established by the June 30 application deadline. If the student attended an Iowa accredited nonpublic school in the prior year, income requirements will also need to be met.
  • We live in Council Bluffs, near the Nebraska border. Can my student use their ESA funds to attend an accredited nonpublic school in Omaha since it’s close to our home? No. Eligibility for the ESA program is limited to Iowa residents attending an Iowa accredited nonpublic school.
  • I am a current resident of Iowa but did not file a 2023 Iowa State Tax Return. Are my students eligible for an ESA? Applications that are not able to be verified through the automatic review process will require additional documentation to verify proof of residency and/or income requirements.
  • My student was homeschooled in the 2023-24 school year and will be enrolling in an Iowa accredited nonpublic school for the 2024-25 school year. Is my student eligible for an ESA? Yes. Applications from an Iowa resident student that participated in homeschooling in the 2023-24 school year are eligible for an ESA regardless of income as long as they are enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited nonpublic school.
  • My student is switching schools in the middle of the semester. Will I still be able to use funds in the ESA? If the student plans to switch schools in the middle of the semester from an Iowa accredited nonpublic school to a public school or homeschool, the unused funds will remain in the ESA and can be used in a future year if the student becomes eligible for an ESA again.  If the student is switching from one Iowa accredited nonpublic school to another Iowa accredited nonpublic school and there are remaining funds in the ESA, funds may continue to be used as long as the student remains enrolled in the new accredited nonpublic school.
  • How will this work if my child lives in a split household? It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to determine the correct person to complete the application and manage the ESA funds. The first parent/guardian to apply who meets the eligibility requirements will be the parent/guardian under which the ESA is established. For an application to be contested, court documents supporting the contesting person’s position as the parent/guardian that has education making authority are required for consideration. Note: The percent of custody or parenting time does not determine the parent/guardian who has the authority for educational decisions.
  • My family is moving within Iowa. Are my students eligible for an ESA? Moving within Iowa does not affect eligibility. The same program eligibility requirements apply.
  • Do both parents/guardians have to complete the form, or does the Iowa Department of Revenue verify through joint tax returns? Only one application per family is needed to apply for the ESA program. For married applicants, the SSN or ITIN of each spouse is required for the application. Both applicants will be required to electronically sign the application.
  • Eligible programs: SNAP, child care assistance, cash assistance, or Iowa Medicaid
  • Required documentation: Iowa HHS Notice of Decision or image of SNAP card with matching parent name
  • Option 2: Written and signed narrative stating claim of net income and household size, and most recent pay stub for both parents/guardians and letter from each employer verifying annual income for the employee
  • Option 3 : State or Federal 2023 Tax Return
  • Option 4 : If the information above is not available: Other situation requires (1) written and signed narrative of situation from parent/guardian, (2) stated claim of net income and household size, and (3) related documentation proving net income and/or household size (e.g., divorce decree in the case of divorce, unemployment letter in the case of unemployment).

Will ESA Funds need to be reported as taxable income? For Iowa tax purposes, ESA funds are not taxable income if the funds are used for eligible educational expenses (e.g., tuition and fees, tutoring). See  Eligible and Ineligible Expenses .

For federal tax purposes, ESA funds are treated differently. ESA funds used for tuition and fees are not taxable. However, ESA funds used for other purposes are considered taxable.

Questions: Funds

  • When can I begin using the ESA funds? Funds will be available for use beginning on July 15, 2024, or 30 days after the application is verified and approved, whichever is later.
  • How much will my student receive? The per student funding for the 2024-25 school year will be $7,635 plus any additional amount determined by the Iowa Legislature during the current legislative session and subsequently approved by the Governor. (This page will be updated when the actual amount is known.)  Half of the funds will be available for use in the Fall 2024 semester and the remaining half will be available for use in the Spring 2025 semester.
  • I have a child that will be in kindergarten in the fall. The amount of her tuition and fees is less than the amount of the ESA funding. Can I use the remaining funds from her ESA to pay tuition and fees for one of my other children? No. ESA eligibility and funding awarded is specific to each individual student. ESA funds from one account may not be used to pay for costs related to another student, regardless if that student is also an ESA participant.

My student paid tuition and fees and still has funds in their ESA. How can those funds be used? After tuition and fees are paid each semester, remaining ESA funds of active ESA participants may be used in the marketplace to pay for eligible expenses. See a list of eligible expenses in the “Information for Families” section.

There is money remaining in my child’s ESA from the 2023-24 school year and he is approved for the 2024-25 school year also. How can I use the leftover funds for 2024-25? Funds remaining in an ESA from a prior year are eligible to be used in another year the student is an ESA participant. After July 15 of a school year, the funds may be used as soon as a nonpublic school verifies the student in the Odyssey portal as an active participant, in either the marketplace to pay for eligible expenses or to use to pay tuition and fees as charged by the nonpublic school through the Odyssey portal. See a list of eligible expenses in the “Information for Families” section.

Public School District Funding

Funding generated through the state funding formula for a public school district will remain with the public school district. This includes funding for students who choose to leave their public school and for all students who live in the district but attend an accredited nonpublic school and receive an ESA. In FY25, it is estimated that Iowa’s public school districts will receive approximately $1,205 per pupil in categorical funding for resident students receiving ESAs.

Warning: this episode contains descriptions of violence.

More than a hundred people died and scores more were wounded on Friday night in a terrorist attack on a concert hall near Moscow — the deadliest such attack in Russia in decades.

Anton Troianovski, the Moscow bureau chief for The Times, discusses the uncomfortable question the assault raises for Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin: Has his focus on the war in Ukraine left his country more vulnerable to other threats?
