Singapore Visa for Tourists in 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
Published: January 1, 2024
Singapore’s visa policy is simple and the country is very open to visitors. Most nationalities can enter visa-free and enjoy stays of either 30 or 90 days. The rest can obtain an eVisa although a local Singaporean contact or a visa agent is a requirement.
Owing to digitalization, entering and leaving Singapore is seamless through one of the automated lanes. If you’re eligible, you won’t even have to speak to an immigration officer!
To save you time and summarize all the information, this guide will cover everything about Singapore visa policy, visa requirements and eligibility.
Table of Contents
Visa policy and visa types.
Passport holders of 162 countries and territories can travel visa-free to Singapore for 30 or 90 days.
Those who aren’t visa-exempt can pre-obtain a tourist visa. There are two ways to do that. The first is an e-visa through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. This method requires a Singaporean contact or an authorized visa agent to apply on behalf of the individual.
The second is through a Singaporean embassy abroad. Depending on nationality, you may also need a Letter of Introduction for Visa Application from a Singaporean contact.
Lastly, certain nationalities can take advantage of the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) if in transit in Singapore to or from a third country. This option allows stays for up to 96 hours (4 days).
Singapore does not have a visa on arrival.
Entry Requirements
These entry requirements apply to all foreign citizens entering Singapore:
- At least 6 months of passport validity
- Valid visa unless visa exempt or using the Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF)
- Completed SG Arrival Card
- Return or onward ticket
- Proof of sufficient cash for your stay
Immigration officers very rarely ask for the last two. If you use the automated gates, you will not be asked for any proof.
It is also a good idea to check the list of Prohibited and Controlled Goods as Singaporean Customs can be a lot more curious.
Visa Exemption
The following countries are visa-exempt for Singapore. The length of allowed stay is either 30 or 90 days depending on your nationality.
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- South Korea
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Burkina Faso

- Trinidad and Tobago
- United Arab Emirates
- Vatican City
NOTE China will enter this list in early 2024 after Singapore confirmed a mutual 30-day visa exemption.
Visa exemption is available at all border crossings via air, land, and sea.
Singapore Visa from the Embassy
The nationalities that need a visa for Singapore are split into two levels.
The main difference is that Level II countries must also submit a Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (LOI).
Assessment Level I Countries
- China (visa exemption expected in early 2024)
- North Korea
- Turkmenistan
Assessment Level II Countries
- Afghanistan
- South Sudan
Visa Requirements
Visa requirements may differ depending on the embassy you apply at. It’s best to check the specific visa application procedure by visiting the website of the Singapore Embassy nearest to you. Check the Singapore Overseas Missions here.
Both Level I and Level II are required to submit:
- Completed and signed Form 14A
- A passport-sized color photograph taken within the last three months. These are the photo requirements .
- A photocopy of your passport biodata page
Level II countries are additionally required to obtain:
- Completed Form V39A which is a Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (LOI)), issued by a local contact in Singapore.
The local contact must be either a Singapore citizen or a permanent resident who is at least 21 years old.
That may prove troublesome for some travelers. A LOI issued by your Embassy can also be accepted if you are unable to secure an LOI from an individual.
Singapore E-Visa
Both Level I and Level II countries can obtain an e-Visa by submitting the same documents as for a regular tourist visa on the SAVE (Submission of Application for Visa Electronically) system .
Even though it’s an e-Visa, as an applicant, you cannot apply for the e-Visa on your own. The e-Visa application must be submitted by a local Singaporean contact or applied through an authorized visa agent approved by ICA such as VFS Global.
The Singaporean contact must be at least 21 years old, a legal citizen or resident of Singapore, and have access to SingPass , the Singapore Identity Verification app.
The application costs 30 SGD (~22$).
If your application is successful, your Singaporean contact can send you the e-Visa file. Print it and present it on arrival to enter the country.
Applications are processed within 3 working days (excluding the day of submission) except for passport holders from Macao and Hong Kong for whom the process takes 1 day.
Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF)
The Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) allows entry into Singapore for up to 96 hours under certain conditions.
Eligible Countries
The following countries are eligible for VFTF:
Requirements
India and china.
Nationals of India and China are eligible for VFTF if they meet the following requirements:
- Enter Singapore by any mode of transport but leave only via air or sea to a third country. You may be asked to show an onward ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours. Flight, ferry, and cruise tickets are allowed.
- Have a valid visa or long-term pass (valid at least one month after the date of entry into Singapore) issued by or allowing entry into any of the following countries:
- United States of America
Schengen visas allow entry to both Germany and Switzerland, so they are accepted even if issued by another country.
- If traveling on a single entry visa from one of the countries above, you may be eligible for the VFTF on the return from your journey if:
- You travel directly from the country that issued the visa, through Singapore, back to your home country;
- You have not been to your home country since you last used the visa.
All other countries
For the other countries on the VFTF list, these requirements are in place:
- Enter Singapore by any mode of transport but leave only via air to a third country. You may be asked to show an onward ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours. Only flight tickets are acceptable.
Visa-Free Transit
Visa-free transit does NOT allow you to enter Singapore!
You are considered a transiting traveler if you travel via Singapore without clearing immigration. All nationalities are eligible.
As a transiting passenger, you are allowed to stay within the transit area of Singapore Changi Airport.
Most layovers don’t require you to clear immigration. However, be careful with low-cost carriers and tickets booked separately. If that’s your case, you likely have to pass through immigration and customs and recheck your luggage. In that case, you must have a visa or be visa-exempt.
SG Arrival Card
The SG Arrival Card is mandatory for all visitors to Singapore regardless of nationality.
You can complete the SG Arrival Card online up to 72 hours before arrival. There’s no minimum required time before arrival so you can complete it at the airport too.
The SG Arrival Card is automatically linked to your passport information. If you don’t complete it properly, automated lanes will reject you and you must see a border officer to amend it.
Automated Clearance
Singapore has made strides towards complete automation of its borders. It is expected that soon all arrivals will be processed through automated lanes. For now, these are the eligible countries:
The procedure is quick and straightforward. If this is your first time in Singapore, the machine will also collect your fingerprints, an iris scan, and a face picture.
You will NOT receive a stamp on your passport. After entry, you will receive an email to the one you provided in the SG Arrival Card with the last day of stay allowed in Singapore.
Exit is also automated.

Introduction
Welcome to the vibrant and dynamic city-state of Singapore! Known for its modern skyline, diverse culture, and mouth-watering cuisine, Singapore has become a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Before embarking on your adventure in this tropical paradise, it is essential to ensure that you have the necessary travel documents in place. In this article, we will guide you on how to apply for a Singapore tourist visa, allowing you to explore and experience all that this amazing city has to offer.
Whether you are planning a short getaway or a longer vacation, obtaining a tourist visa is a straightforward process that can be completed online. Singapore has streamlined its visa application system, making it convenient and efficient for visitors. By following the step-by-step instructions outlined in this guide, you will be well-prepared to submit your application and embark on a memorable journey to Singapore.
Before diving into the application process, it is important to note that visa requirements may vary depending on your nationality. Singapore has visa exemption agreements with several countries, allowing their citizens to enter Singapore for a specified period without a visa. However, if you are not eligible for visa exemption, obtaining a tourist visa is mandatory.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the eligibility requirements and the step-by-step process of applying for a Singapore tourist visa.
Eligibility Requirements
Before applying for a Singapore tourist visa, it is crucial to ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria. The eligibility requirements for a Singapore tourist visa are as follows:
- You must hold a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining from the date of entry into Singapore.
- You must be able to demonstrate proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay in Singapore. This includes accommodation expenses, daily living expenses, and return transportation costs.
- You must have a valid and confirmed return or onward ticket.
- You must have a clear criminal record. If you have any previous convictions or a history of immigration violations, your application may be subjected to additional scrutiny.
- You must not have been previously banned from entering Singapore.
- You must have a genuine intention to visit Singapore for tourism purposes, such as sightseeing, visiting family or friends, attending conferences or exhibitions, or participating in cultural events.
It is important to note that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee approval of your visa application. The final decision lies with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore, which reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason.
Now that you understand the eligibility requirements for a Singapore tourist visa, it’s time to gather the necessary documents to complete your application.
Gather the Required Documents
When applying for a Singapore tourist visa, it is important to gather all the necessary documents to support your application. Having the required documents ready will ensure a smooth and efficient application process. Here is a list of the documents you will generally need:

- Proof of travel plans, such as a confirmed round-trip ticket or itinerary.

- If applicable, any additional supporting documents depending on the purpose of your visit. For example, if you are attending a conference or exhibition, you may need to provide proof of registration or an invitation letter.
It is essential to ensure that all documents are complete, valid, and in the required format. Any missing or incomplete documents can result in delays or rejection of your visa application. Additionally, it is advisable to make copies of all the documents for your reference.

Singapore visa fees for US Green Card Holders
The Singapore visa costs are $22 per visa application. The Singapore visa fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application or if you withdraw the application after submission.
Take note all Singapore tourist visa fees are subject to change without notice. Double-check important information on the government website to ensure no updates have been made.
Singapore visa application process for US Green Card Holders
Certain nationalities, including Green Card holders, must apply for a visa to enter Singapore. While US citizens do not need to apply for a Singapore visa in advance, there are different options available if they choose to do so. Here is how to apply for a Singapore visa:
In-person: The first thing you need to do is make an appointment at your nearest Singapore Embassy. Then, you need to pay your Singapore tourist visa fees. Next, you need to make sure that you submit all the required travel documents. The Embassy can only process your tourist visa for Singapore application upon receipt of a hard copy of these documents. The Embassy will let you know via email if they approve your tourist visa. You need to pick up your passport and visa at the Embassy. Consular services are by appointment only.
Online: Travelers cannot independently apply for a Singapore visa online, as the process requires a SingPass. However, if the applicant has a local sponsor in Singapore, someone who is a citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or above and holds a SingPass account, they can assist with the Singapore visa application. The application can be submitted online via SAVE, but it must be done through a local contact possessing a SingPass account.
Strategic partners: These organizations or companies collaborate with the Singaporean government to facilitate the visa application. As partners, they may provide additional support and services to streamline the application process for applicants.
Tips to apply
Ensure all required documents are complete, accurate, and in line with the embassy's specifications.
Schedule your embassy appointment well in advance to accommodate any processing delays.
Be aware of the estimated processing times and submit your application accordingly.
Familiarise yourself with the application process and do additional research. Do not just jump in and get started.
Receive your approved Singapore visa
The embassy will notify you once your Singapore visa is approved. They will also provide the information you need to collect your passport with the visa stamp inside.
Ensure you have your valid Singapore visa when traveling, as it will be required to enter the country.
Singapore visa information
How to check the singapore visa status.
This depends on how and where you applied. However, when applying at the embassy, you will most probably need to contact them directly to get updates on the status of your Singapore visa application. Have your application number and passport number with you, as this will be required to check the Singapore visa status.
Singapore visa processing time
The Singapore visa processing time is 8 business days. Note some applications may take longer, which means that the visa processing time could take longer than expected. The processing time especially takes longer when your visa application faces delays.
Singapore visa validity & length of stay
US Citizens can visit Singapore for 90 days without needing a visa.
However, once you apply for a visa, you will need to take note of the specific validity period stated on the visa. Each visa application undergoes an individual approval process, including determining the approved visa duration. The validity of the visa is determined by the officials processing your application and will be specified on the approved visa document.
Commitment to Visa Accuracy
The content in this blog is sourced exclusively from official government websites, guaranteeing its reliability and accuracy. You can have confidence in the precision of the information, but it's advisable to stay updated, as changes may occur without prior notice.

Government fees and processes are subject to change. We suggest checking the official website for the latest information before initiating your application. This step will ensure you have the most up-to-date details, facilitating a smoother visa application process.
Frequently Asked Questions
You must present yourself for immigration clearance at your point of entry into Singapore. In addition, you must satisfy the following basic entry or Singapore tourist visa requirements before you can enter Singapore:

Sufficient funds for your intended period of stay.
A submitted SG Arrival Card.
A valid Singapore entry visa.
A confirmed onward or return ticket (where applicable).
A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if you travel from a yellow fever country.

When to Apply for a Singapore Tourist Visa
Goh Jun Cheng
October 12, 2023
Table of Contents
Introduction
Singapore is a popular travel destination known for its diverse culture, mouthwatering cuisine, stunning architecture, and beautiful natural areas.
As a tourist visiting Singapore, you will need to obtain a visa in advance unless you are from a country that has a visa exemption agreement with Singapore. Knowing when to apply for your Singapore tourist visa is an important part of trip planning to ensure you receive it in time.
This guide will provide tips on when you should submit your Singapore visa application based on your travel dates and nationality.
Determine Your Visa Requirements
The first step is to check if you need a visa at all to visit Singapore. Citizens of over 170 countries qualify for either a 30 or 90-day visa-free entry to Singapore. If your country is on this list, you can enter Singapore without a visa as a tourist.
However, if your country is not part of the visa-waiver program, you will need to apply for a Singapore tourist visa before travel. Some nationalities like China and India have specific visa requirements, so check carefully. The visa application process and requirements vary by nationality.
Factor in Processing Time
Once you confirm you need a tourist visa, the next key consideration is processing time. It can take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks for a Singapore visa application to be approved depending on factors like nationality and method of application.
Most nationalities can complete an eVisa application online which speeds up processing. Paper applications submitted by mail generally take longer.
Check the current visa processing timelines to get an idea of how long you may have to wait for visa approval. Add the processing time to the date you want to travel to determine when you should apply.
Rush Options
If you are running short on time, some visa application centers offer expedited processing for an extra fee. There is also the option to pay for premium services like 1 or 2 day processing.
Just be aware these rush services can cost $100 or more on top of the standard visa fee. The express fees guarantee faster processing, but don’t guarantee the visa will be approved.
Apply Early for Peak Travel Times
Aim to submit your Singapore tourist visa application 1-2 months in advance of travel dates. Applying early helps avoid any delays, and gives you flexibility if you need to send any additional documents.
It is especially important to apply early if you are traveling during major holidays and events when demand for visas spikes. Timeframes around:
- Chinese New Year (January/February)
- School Holidays (May-August)
- Formula 1 (September)
- Christmas/New Year (December)
Applying well in advance for these peak seasons reduces stress and ensures you get approved in time.
Avoid Last Minute Applications
While it may be tempting to wait until the last minute, avoid applying for a Singapore tourist visa right before your departure date. Rushing the application leaves no room for error.
If there are any issues with your application such as missing documents, it can lead to significant delays and risk not getting approved in time. Leaving a buffer of at least 2 weeks between your submission and travel date is recommended.
Last minute applications also incur express processing fees to try and expedite the process. Applying early following the normal procedure saves you money.
Planning ahead and knowing when to apply for a Singapore tourist visa ensures a smooth application process. Check if you need a visa, look up processing times for your nationality, and submit at least 1-2 months in advance, more if traveling during peak times.
Avoid last minute applications leaving no room for delays. Applying early with all required documents gives you the best chance for timely approval and a stress-free visa application experience.

Singapore is a country full of natural beauty and cultural diversity that offers plenty of opportunity for vacation, education, and work. Before you can do any of that, though, you'll need a visa to enter the country. While only tourists from certain countries need a visa to enter Singapore, all foreign students and workers need a pass.
Getting a Tourist Visa
- Tourists from most former Soviet nations, most Middle Eastern nations, many African countries, some eastern European countries, India, and Russia must secure a visa before entering Singapore.
- Chinese tourists must also secure a tourist visa. This includes visitors from Hong Kong and Macau.
- Check the Ministry website to find out if tourists from your country are required to get visas.
- You will need your passport. If you' don't have a passport that will be valid for at least 6 months beyond the last day of your visit, get or renew that before you apply for your visa.
- The form must be completed in full and signed by the applicant before it can be processed.
- Form V39A is issued and signed by a local contact. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs defines a local contact as a Singapore citizen or permanent resident who is at least 21 years old.
- If you do not have a local contact in Singapore, visit your nearest Singapore Embassy or Consulate to request they issue your letter of introduction to support your application.
- Singapore reserves the right to request additional documentation on a case-by-case basis. One of the most common additional requests is for proof of ability to financially support yourself during your stay (bank statements, pay stubs, etc.).
- You will need a high-quality scan of your Form 14A to submit your online application.
- You need to pay your application fee using a Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card.
- The S$30 application fee must be paid by money order or in exact cash.
- If you are not close enough to your Embassy or Consulate to visit in-person, you may submit your application via a visa agency. Always get an acknowledgment of submission from the agency before turning over your documents.
- It can take up to 10 business days from the day the application is received for the Embassy or Consulate to process your request. Try to submit your application a month before your departure in case additional documentation is requested.
Securing a Student Visa
- To register, you will need a registration acknowledgment letter from your school or study abroad program. The letter will have your SOLAR+ application number on it, which lets you build your account.
- The SOLAR+ application is broken down by type of school., such as public, private, foreign, technical institute, etc. Make sure you fill out the application for your intended school type.
- If you're confused about registration, talk to an administrator for your program. They can give you the specific details you need to ensure you fill out the right type of application.
- University student and students studying abroad from countries that require visas for entry may be called for an interview after they submit their application.
- For this application, you will need your personal contact information, your passport information, basic financial information that can be found on bank statements, and the registration information provided to you by your school or program in Singapore.
- Once you've submitted the online application, you'll need to print out a copy of the eForm that auto-populates from your SOLAR+ application (eForm 16) to submit to the Student Pass unit of the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA).
- When you submit your eForm, you will also have to pay an application processing fee of S$30.
- An original, a notarized copy, and a photocopy of your passport
- The printout of your eForm 16, signed and dated
- Copies of your bank or financial statements
- A copy of your school or program acceptance letter
- A medical report form, available from the ICA's website
- 2 passport-sized photographs taken against a white background
- Transcripts from your current school
- Any test scores you submitted to your program (GRE, TOEFL, GMAT, etc.)
- Your contact should also let you know at that point what documents to bring with you to your interview.
- Your interview isn't to assess your personality or academic potential. Your interviewer will mostly be going over your documents and background check to make sure you're not a security risk and that you're not at risk for staying past your visa expiration date.
- Be sure to get the official IPA letter before you leave. Your entry visa will be incorporated into your IPA letter, so you'll need to show this to ICA when you enter Singapore.
Receiving a Work Visa
- An Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass). This pass is for owners of companies newly incorporated in Singapore who wish to relocate to Singapore to run the company. To qualify for an EntrePass, businesses must pass government-imposed "innovativeness" conditions.
- A Personalised Employment Pass (PEP). This pass is for those making at least S$18,000 a month who are coming into management, executive, or specialist positions.
- An S Pass. This pass is for mid-level workers making at least S$2,200 a month. An S pass is sponsored by your employer, so the company sponsoring you must apply on your behalf.
- A Work Permit. Work permits are for semi-skilled employees in high-need areas such as marine construction, manufacturing, and service sector jobs. These permits are also sponsored by employers.
- In addition, your employer will have to take several steps in preparation for your arrival, including by healthcare insurance for you, if you receive an applicable pass.
- When you go to get fingerprinted, you will also need to bring your passport, your appointment letter, your in-principle acceptance letter, and any documents listed in your letter. These can all be handed over to your MOM agent during your appointment.
- Your card generally arrives within 4 business days after you register your fingerprints and documents.
- Once you receive your card, you should keep it on you at all times as a form of ID when you're in Singapore.
