Peep show: the 10 best episodes ranked.

British comedy Peep Show was famous for its ridiculous, irreverent humor, and here are the 10 best episodes of Peep Show, ranked.

Inarguably, Peep Show 's best episodes contain the greatest comedic moments in sitcom history. Running from 2003 to 2015, Peep Show stars the perfectly cast comedy duo of David Mitchell and Robert Webb as flatmates. While Mitchell plays the reserved, self-aware pseudo-intellectual Mark, Webb is the passionate, delusional, and sensation-chasing Jeremy/Jez. It's a classic sitcom pairing between two highly contrasting individuals, whose only common factors is their unrelenting and selfish dishonesty. This relationship lays the groundwork for the show's brilliantly subtle absurdity and hard-hitting dark humor, which rarely ever misses throughout the entirety of Peep Show 's 54 episodes. Although technically a rom-com, Peep Show is not for the faint of heart.

Originally called POV, Peep Show also stands out for its signature heavy use of point-of-view shots and voice-overs that reveal the inner monologue of whichever character's perspective is onscreen . To this day, Peep Show remains the only sitcom that has used both a head-mounted camera setup with voice-overs consistently in every season. This unique style is a product of the show's limited budget, its writers' creativity, and its cast's willingness to adapt to the unusual and difficult setup. Somehow underrated and globally recognized at once, Peep Show tried everything it could to break the sitcom genre, only to ironically become arguably the greatest sitcom ever. Here are the 10 best episodes of Peep Show .

10 The Test

  • Season 6, Episode 2

“The Test” sees Mark and Jeremy take a paternity test to determine who’s really the father of Sophie’s child. It may sound like the plot of a daytime soap opera, but Peep Show naturally finds a way to wring as much comedy out of the situation as possible. Meanwhile, both Mark and Jeremy are trying to impress their respective crushes, with Mark going on a date with on-again-off-again romantic interest Dobby, and Jeremy attempting to woo his Russian drug dealer Elena. "The Test" stands out as one of Peep Show's best episodes for focusing on what the show does best: Mark and Jeremy being hilariously terrible liars and men.

9 Quantocking

  • Season 3, Episode 6

When Mark takes Sophie to a nice hotel in the Quantocks, Jeremy crashes the party with a cold-turkey Super Hans. While Mark planned on proposing to Sophie during their trip, he eventually decides it’s a bad idea. Mark’s revelation is quickly undercut when he discovers that Sophie has found the ring and accepts his proposal. Mark then agrees to marry Sophie out of sheer awkwardness. "Quantocking" is among Peep Show's best episodes not only for unraveling Mark and Sophie's relationship. It also shows Jeremy brilliantly failing at trying to be a supportive friend to Super Hans, whose dilemma coaxes out one of the supporting character's best performances in the series.

8 Mark Makes A Friend

  • Season 1, Episode 4

Mark making a new friend at work results in him getting in trouble, but also forming an unlikely friendship with his boss, Alan Johnson. Immediately, Mark questions and even investigates his own sexuality when he feels an attraction to Alan. After Jeremy reveals this to Alan, Mark deduces that he's about "85% straight." "Mark Makes a Friend" is one of Peep Show's best episodes not just for introducing the charismatic Alan Johnson, the perfect foil to Mark's uncanny ability to cause awkward situations. Jeremy also struggles with having been physically intimate with Super Hans in last night's drug binge. Not surprisingly, Peep Show tackles queerness with unflinching realism, despite playing everything for laughs.

7 University Challenge

  • Season 2, Episode 4

“University Challenge” follows Mark and Jeremy as they travel back to their old college, with Mark hoping to pursue like-minded student April while Jeremy follows the band "Executioner’s Bong." This is one of Peep Show's best episodes for its focus on Mark, yet again, mistaking the slightest bit of compatibility to be a sign of true love. Meanwhile, Jeremy goes through the usual beats as well by trying and failing to become a rock star through some shortcut, with Super Hans' criminal antics feeling right at home in university. The aptly titled "University Challenge" further unravels Mark and Jeremy's arrested development in an episode that feels like a classic college comedy movie.

6 Sophie's Parents

  • Season 4, Episode 1

The first episode of Peep Show ’s fourth season, “Sophie’s Parents,” sees Mark and Jeremy visit his in-laws-to-be in their remote countryside home, following the engagement of Mark and Sophie. From Mark’s bird-shooting incident and Jeremy’s affair with Sophie’s married mother, to Mark and Jeremy’s reluctant arson, this is one of Peep Show's best episodes. The real kicker, though, is Mark deciding that he’ll stay with Sophie despite not loving her, simply because her parents gifted them a house in the countryside. It's all revealed to the audience — and hidden from Sophie — through Peep Show 's signature POV and voice-over style. It's also one of the best performances of Olivia Coleman's early career .

5 Dance Class

  • Season 2, Episode 1

While Peep Show usually aimed its jokes squarely at Mark and Jeremy themselves, “Dance Class” highlights the awkwardness of the Rainbow Rhythms dance class they’re forced to attend with their prospective lovers before the couples retire to a romantic summer house. That said, what makes "Dance Class" one of Peep Show's best episodes is Mark himself, who fully misunderstands the point of Rainbow Rhythms while simultaneously thinking that he should "get extra marks for not feeling a f******* thing." From Jeremy and Mark’s forced kiss to Mark’s unbearably embarrassing serenade on the lake, “Dance Class” is one of the most joke-dense episodes of Peep Show ’s earlier seasons.

4 Shrooming

  • Season 3, Episode 3

As the episode’s title suggests, “Shrooming” sees Jeremy hold a psylocibin mushroom party at the flat—only for his plans to be derailed by Mark’s presence after he suddenly falls ill. In another one of his misguided plans to get back with Big Suze, Jeremy becomes the worst shrooms shaman ever, while the visibly ill and upset Mark is the last thing anyone on psylocibin mushrooms need to see. One of Peep Show's best episodes, "Shrooming" includes Jeremy "poisoning" Mark with Lemsip to get him out of the way, the duo "commanding" a carpenter to fix the bathroom door immediately, and Mark’s explosive finale.

3 Seasonal Beatings

  • Season 7, Episode 5

“Seasonal Beatings” is set during Christmas, as Mark’s parents Dan and Pam come for dinner, with Dobby and Super Hans unexpectedly joining the festivities. Highlights include Mark’s unwarranted turkey-based tirade at Jeremy and Mark’s constant bickering with his father, but the episode’s most memorable moment comes when Dan tells Mark to "put a muzzle on his woman." When Mark fails to defend Dobby, the awkwardness is truly palpable. Fortunately, Mark later redeems himself by standing up to his father, labeling the day "Christmark" as a result. Apart from the jokes, "Seasonal Beatings" is among Peep Show's best episodes for being the pay-off of Mark's long-term character development.

  • Season 4, Episode 6

Among the best Peep Show episodes is the quintessential “Wedding”, which opens with Mark marching towards his doom as he prepares to marry Sophie. It’s both hilarious and pathetic to witness Mark’s increasingly desperate attempts to get out of the wedding, going as far as stepping in front of a car. "Wedding" also includes Super Hans vomiting into his top hat, and Mark hiding out on the church balcony. Mark’s cowardice is revealed when Jeremy wets himself in Mark's hiding place, which proceeds to leak through the floorboards onto the guests below. Everything in the show just came together in "Wedding," undoubtedly one of Peep Show's best episodes, and another hidden gem among Olivia Coleman's early roles .

  • Season 4, Episode 5

Arguably the best Peep Show episode is "Holiday". Even by Peep Show ’s standards, “Holiday” is widely considered the most out-there episode of the entire show. While most episodes build to a handful of awkward moments but nothing too high stakes, “Holiday” takes things to a whole new level. At Mark’s stag weekend, Jeremy and Mark pursue a pair of sisters. After accidentally running over their beloved dog, Jeremy goes to great lengths to hide his crime, even resorting to a makeshift cremation which the duo play off as a barbecue to the sisters. In the greatest of the worst-ever moments in Peep Show , Mark and Jeremy are then forced to eat the dog’s charred remains to keep up their lie.

Peep Show

Peep Show: season six, episode three

Julia Raeside's Peep Show season six, episode two blog

We're halfway through the season and there's still no let up in the phenomenal gag rate. These weekly reviews might just as well be a long list of the lines I loved, so thoroughly pebbledashed is each episode with properly laugh-out-loud gags.

Blissed-out, loved-up Jeremy was back this week after his success in bedding the suspiciously beautiful Elena. She, however, appears to be using Jez as some kind of domestic drudge – he spends all of his time ironing her clothes, picking up her dry-cleaning and buying her bread from Hastings. I love the way Jeremy is always so completely dazzled by his latest crush that he'll do absolutely anything for them. Remember Nancy , his green card bride? Or, rather more horrifyingly, the Orgazoid ? One minute he's sticking it to the Man, refusing to be told what to do. The next, he's running playfully alongside his new obsession as though waiting for him/her to throw a stick for him to fetch.

Meanwhile, Mark underwent the ultimate torture – a glimpse of a world in which he might actually enjoy his job. Making him a walking tour guide was a masterstroke. But I think they could have had even more fun forcing him to deal with difficult punters: a small child with superior historical knowledge, perhaps. That would really have boiled his oil.

It was strange to see Dobby back so soon after last week's revelation that Mark is to become a father. I love the prospect of their relationship blossoming, largely because of Issie Suttie's superbly warped performance, but I reckon I'd think less of her if she did eventually hook up with Mark. She may not be spoilt for choice (between Mark and Gerard), but Mark is ultimately a coward and a weakling. I can't decide whether there's a good heart beating under all that middle-class self-loathing and angst. While Jeremy's clearly a shit who cares only about his own urges, Mark's more complicated: he wants to do the right thing, but not if it involves him enduring any kind of social discomfort.

So, at the halfway stage, is series six delivering the same comic punch as series one? I'd say it's better. It's definitely tighter, and funnier, than series five. While some of the gross-out moments and shock tactics of that season left me a bit cold, the more subtle, psychologically unpleasant humour of this series is really hitting the spot.

Favourite moments this week:

Jeremy describing his sexual technique: "I just did my usual stuff. Snog, diddle, tongue, diddle. Front, behind, cuddle. The set menu."

Mark recalling the bullying he used to endure as a schoolboy: "Having to sing, 'I'm a Gaylord' to the tune of Like a Virgin."

Mark silently correcting Jeremy's grammar when he confuses "less" with "fewer".

The excellent Robert Popper (Look Around You) making a guest appearance as the heckler during Mark's historical walking tour.

Series 1 (2003)

This original series of Peep Show , broadcast in the autumn of 2003 , introduced viewers to Jeremy and Mark for the first time. At this stage Mark was in hot pursuit of the love of his life, co-worker Sophie. Jez meanwhile is living in awe of his idiotic mate Super Hans and trying to find a way to get into the pants of their beautiful but brittle next-door neighbour Toni. As the series develops, so do the guy's frustrations, and it ends up with the two teaming up to prank call Sophie and launch a pepper spray attack on Super Hans. The series ends with Mark nearly succeeding in having sex with Sophie, but this chance is scuppered by Jez passing out in the living room.

Series 2 (2004)

Jez and his girlfriend, a confused Californian Christian called Nancy embark on a 'visa wedding' which Jez hopes will be 'the happiest administrative procedure of their lives'. Mark meanwhile still has eyes for only one girl, and they've been getting on really well - especially since he started hacking into her emails! But there's an obstacle in the way of Mark's quest for Sophie's love - its in the form Jeff, his macho co-worker at JLB Finance.

Series 3 (2005)

After two years, Mark finally gets together with his beloved Sophie but all goes wrong when she's relocated to Bristol. Their relationship soon stagnates, however this doesn't stop Mark from proposing though... he does so accidentally! Meanwhile Jez's beautiful ex-girlfriend, Big Suze steps back into his life which leads to Jeremy conducting a series of ill-fated relationships with women - one of whom is Mark's sister.

Series 4 (2007)

Mark spends a horrific weekend with Sophie's argumentative parents, tries to get his gym instructor sacked, and is involved in a spot of arson in series four. Meanwhile, Jeremy performs some 'handy work' for a male pop star, does something pretty unspeakable to a dog and, worst of all, sleeps with Sophie's mother.

Series 5 (2008)

In last year's series, Mark had to face the horror of having to face his estranged wife at work having all but jilted her at the altar in Series 4. Meanwhile Jeremy had a rude awakening when the money he'd been subsisting on finally ran out and he was forced to try and find a new source of income. Jeremy's mother soon appears on the scene and it becomes clear why he's ended up as he is! Also: Mark goes speed dating and discovers money can buy you love; Jeremy and Superhans play at a Christian rock festival; the flat suffers multiple burglaries; and the boys endure their worst ever night out... they have to go to the theatre.

Series 6 (2009)

Having discovered that Sophie is pregnant, Mark and Jeremy have to face up to the possibility that either one of them might be the father. How will this affect Mark's pursuit of Dobby? And will it help or hinder Jeremy as he falls for his dream woman; dope-dealing-musician-activist Elena? Super Hans becomes a man with a van, Jeremy owns up to watching porn to save a friend from humiliation at work, while Mark discovers the truth about what it is like to work closely with Johnson, the boss he worships.

Series 7 (2010)

Mark has become a father. Burdened with a new and frightening responsibility, he finds that he can't get a decent job and is forced to continue to work as a waiter. Jeremy, on the other hand, stumbles upon a new and exciting source of income, power and responsibility. Miraculously walking away from the wreckage of his affair with Elena, Jeremy also meets a new love interest.

Series 8 (2012)

The story picks up where it was left at the end of Series 7. Mark has asked Dobby to move in with him. She has agreed, and Jeremy is faced with the prospect of moving out to make way. It's now a month or so later, and Mark is still waiting for Jeremy to leave...

Series 9 (2015)

Last time we saw Mark and Jeremy they had just been mildly electrocuted in a field, abandoned by Dobby despite their declarations of love. It looked like the end of the El Dude Brothers. But now time has passed, and while Jez has some rather constrictive new living quarters, and Mark has a new flatmate and has landed a bank job, it seems that the wounds have not yet healed.

Going to a Peep Show in Amsterdam: My Red Light District Experience

What comes to mind when you think of Amsterdam? Is the tulips? Windmills? Cute wooden clogs? Probably not. While these things are associated with Amsterdam, most tourists know it for two other things: marijuana and the Red Light District, or basically, sex. Pretty much anything to do with sex really; sex shops, condom shops, live sex shows and more. I’ll admit, I was definitely curious but I wasn’t really ready to walk into a sex show. Especially not alone. However, when I had the opportunity to see a peep show in Amsterdam, I took it. So if you are thinking the same and wondering what to expect, here’s what it’s like going to a peep show in Amsterdam’s Red Light District.

Amsterdam Red Light District

As weird as it was, I actually loved the Red Light District. Not for the sex trade, it’s just one of the quirkiest places I’ve been to. There’s something really funny about watching men get pulled into windows (especially at 10am on a Sunday morning) by scantily clad women. Maybe I’m a little juvenile, but the whole sex craze that is so apparent in this area makes me laugh. It’s so over the top and extreme that I can’t help but giggle at some of the things. Like blow up dolls with breasts and a penis on full display in shop windows

But as entertaining as it was peeking into these sex shops with their interesting wares, I wanted to know more about what went on behind the scenes of the graphic posters and vulgar neon lights. As someone who used to work in the victim industry and studied human trafficking, I wanted to know how the system here actually worked. Which led me to sign up for a  guided Red Light District tour which just happened to include a stop at one of the popular peep shows in Amsterdam.

Some of the more interesting 'toys' to be found in the sex shops

Over the course of a couple of hours, I learned a lot about the sex trade in Amsterdam. I learned about the process of becoming a prostitute, the history, and how it is controlled and legislated. I learned about the old local church, and how it used to thrive thanks to needy sailors. And of course I got some great and hilarious stories of the prostitutes of old who, quite frankly, were pretty bad-ass women. It was a great tour and I highly recommend it but the most entertains part was when the tour wrapped up and we the opportunity to see a peep show in Amsterdam.

The venue we stopped out side of showed a large sign stating “2€=2minutes” with a possible viewing of: guy on girl, girl on girl, or solo girl.

“Go on” our guide prompted us, “you’re in Amsterdam, where else are you going to get the chance to do this?”

Peep show in Amsterdam

It was funny seeing everyone kind of shuffle their feet at the idea of seeing a peep show in Amsterdam. You could tell most wanted to, but felt awkward about doing so. In fairness, so did I. I wanted the experience, but I didn’t really want to sit in the booth alone so I ended up going in with another woman in my group.

The two of us crammed ourselves into tiny, dark booth, shoved a 2€ coin in the box and watched as the little shutter over the window slid open, revealing a single woman on a round, rotating bed. The top half of her was clothed; trying to disguise what I’m convinced was a pregnant belly, but she was nude from the waist down. She wasn’t drop dead gorgeous, but she was pretty enough and took advantage of her long, blonde hair as she rolled around in front of us touching herself for everyone in the booths to see.

What made it weirder was that not only would we see her and her us, but we could see across the room into the other booth windows and their viewers. The booths were set up in a circular fashion around the room, so we had a clear view of the working girl… and everyone else. It wasn’t too bad because everyone was in our group and clearly uncomfortable, but I imagine if you (or someone you saw) were really into it, it could be pretty weird.

Even knowing we were all part of the tour, it was awkward. Of course, my go-to in awkward situations is to laugh, but thankfully I wasn’t the only one. Not only were the other viewers stifling their laughs behind their hands but our ‘showgirl’ quickly realized what was going on and joined in. But instead of fading off I think it just encouraged her to give us more of a show as she tried to shock us. I won’t get into intense details but I definitely saw more than I wanted. But then again, what did I expect at a peep show in Amsterdam?

Peep Show in Amsterdam

After what seemed more like 5 minutes, our 2 minutes ran out and as quickly as it opened, our black shutter slammed closed indicating our time was over. My viewing partner and I exited our booth and joined the rest of the group back in front of the theatre where our guide waited to hear about our experience.

Was I glad I that I went to a peep show in Amsterdam? Yes I was. It was awkward, however it was also definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Would I do it again though? Probably not.

Tips for Visiting The Red Light District

  • Do not take photos of the working girls (or men); it may be legal to be a prostitute in Amsterdam, but a lot of these women aren’t Dutch and it is illegal back in their home countries. Your ‘funny souvenir’ could actually land them in jail.
  • Hide your cameras in the area, as mentioned above photographing the workers can be dangerous to them and they will protect themselves. This might mean smashing your camera or throwing things at you, like urine or worse. Consider yourself warned
  • Be careful for pickpockets at night. The red light district is busiest between 11pm to about 2am and sticky fingers tend to come out with the crowds.
  • Dealers also come out late at night, do not buy anything in the streets. Marijuana is technically illegal, but the law has some sort of arrangement with the cafes. Buying outside of these cafes will land you in  a lot of trouble.

Want to stay close to the Red Light District? Check out the Swissotel Amsterdam , or for something a little cheaper try Intel Hostels Amsterdam Central .

This post brings back so many memories! Your experience made for a great post. “Seriously though, who would buy a blow-up doll with a penis AND breasts?” LOL. No kiddin’!!

It was sooo weird!

Definitely a once in a lifetime experience! I went to a Ping Pong Show in Thailand years ago and that was another one that stays in the memory long after!

Haha I’ve heard stories about those! May have to go when I visit- another ‘just to say I did it’

Ohmygod! This sounds HILARIOUS! I loved the Red Light District, too, my friend (who is from Amsterdam) took me to a coffee shop and then the Red Light District so I giggled my way around!

haha yes I can imagine that would make the experience much funnier!

Ha ha, good old Ámsterdam. When I went to the red light district I wasn`t too shocked to be honest as I used to live near a red light district as a student in Germany. 🙂

Haha we have nothing like that here at home so it was a bit of a shocker to me!

Okay, I would seriously do this just to say I did it. I’ve been to Amsterdam but with family so didn’t get a chance to visit the Red Light District – next time!

Haha right? Not many people can say they have done it and it makes for a hilarious story to tell friends.

Interesting post, I have to say it sounds like one of those unique Amsterdam things that you just can’t find anywhere else!

Exactly! That’s why I did it- plus makes for a great story!

That is quite the store display – a bit different from the mannequins you find elsewhere! Good for you for trying it. I didn’t end up doing this tour when I was in Amsterdam many years ago, but it sounds like a very unique and memorable experience.

Haha yes- window shopping at a whole new level for sure! If your in Amsterdam again you’ll have to take a tour- it’s very interesting!

Lol!! Brilliant article, I’m not sure about the toy with the breasts and penis… if it had a vagina I’d buy 5! ^_^ A very refreshing view of Amsterdam’s Red Light district – Thanks for the share

They had those too 😉

Oh yes Amsterdam is special. The first time I went to the Red Light District was only a couple of years ago and I felt totally inconvenient. Especially because there were quite some young (eastern European looking) girls that I’m sure of did not want to be there … Luckily the rules for this have become tighter. Las summer I guided a group of 20 ladies (and 2 men) around here and it was so much fun to see them in the sex shop 🙂

haha yes the sex shops are HILARIOUS

Hahahah I love this story!! What an experience. I’ll be in Amsterdam soon (in July) and I’m SO curious about the red-light district. I didn’t know you could do a night tour, but I think I may just have to do it!! Where did you go to sign up for such a thing?

It was pretty funny! I believe there are a couple tours. I did the one with Sandemans (who also runs a great free city tour daily at 11, and 2). We just met in Dam Square at the allotted time the night of- just make sure you are there a few minutes early to buy your ticket. Super easy and I would highly recommend it!

Very funny post, I would laugh if I was in there too! I haven’t been to Amsterdam yet but have a friend living out there and I’m sure she would take me. Just like a ping pong show, its a once in a lifetime thing to do!

exactly! I guess a ping pong show will have to be next on my list…eek. haha

When in Rome, right? When I see sex toys like the ones you mentioned I can’t help but think about the people working in the factory where these are manufactured.

Right? Much less the people that come up with them!

Ahah, love Amsterdam ! When I was there we went on a private show ( sponsored by the hostel ), which was 30 euros, quite expensive, but it was worth it, just for the laugh. We had a malaysian boy in the group, and he was used as a “helper” by the stripper, and the things she did to her.. You had to be there to witness it, ahah.

Oh man I can only imagine! I bet that was hilarious!

This is definitely a once in a lifetime experience everyone should do while in Amsterdam. It reminded me of my travels to Red light districts, shows and sex museum. Cheap fun!

Cheap fun is exactly right!

My flight back from Zambia has a stop over in Amsterdam so hopefully I will tour around…and of course the red light district too as I have heard so much about it.

Dubai | A Visual Diary

I hope you get a bit of time to check out Amsterdam! It’s a neat place

We are in Amsterdam right now and I’m not sure I can bring myself to go. A tour would be a fun way to take it all in though!

You should do it! It’s awkward but kinda fun-and easier since you are in a group. Take the plunge- when in Amsterdam right? Enjoy your travels!

Haha, great article! I have recently joined a tour like this. Even though I’m Dutch, i din’t know much of the Red Light District. And because it’s the oldest area in Amsterdam, I wanted to learn and see more of it… It was great! Would defo recommend it.

Hey, I’ve posted a comment yesterday. I’ve added a link to a site where I booked, so that other could check it out. Why did you remove the link?

Hi Marcel, While I appreciate your visit and comment I do not allow promotional links on my blog (as mentioned in my contact me section). This is business and as a travel authority I do not endorse anything that I have not experienced myself. If I had taken part in your specific tour, that would be a whole other story. If you would prefer I delete all your comments, just let me know.

[…] dumb, just watch porn! A more authentic, and affordable Amsterdam activity to do is see a peep show for a euro a minute. My friend and I entered a small closet sized room and when we deposited our […]

Can you only go in on your own now because when I watched a documentary on this, I saw a sign with 2 men and a line through it?

Hmm I’m not sure? I went in 2013 and 2 people were allowed.

[…] The red light district tends to be something that tourists either really want to see or have zero interest in. Personally, as an ex-victim worker with an interest in human trafficking, I find it fascinating. Nighttime is the best time to see it in ‘action’ but I suggest taking a tour rather than just walking around on your own. There is a lot of history in the area and a lot to learn about the working women (and men) that you see in the windows. Plus, the tours have some great stories and interesting opportunities. The one I took gave us the opportunity to check out a peep show which was…interesting. You can read about my peep show in Amsterdam experience here. […]

Peep Show series 8 episode 5: Chairman Mark

The penultimate episode of this run of Peep Show is another belter. Here's Louisa's review...

8.5 Chairman Mark

After a handy restatement of this series’ plot arc in the opening few minutes (Jez loves Dobby; Mark’s attempts to get her to move in are being foiled at every turn), Chairman Mark quickly became what’s known in technical circles as a bit of a corker.

Mark lost his job and Jeremy – briefly – moved out, but as ever with Peep Show , the big stuff was incidental next to the characters’ humdrum victories and defeats. The next time you put a t-shirt on a coat hanger or very slowly ease open a bottle of Cava, think of Jez and Mark, brothers in banality.

Ad – content continues below

Mark proved, once again, that not only is he not an honourable man, he’s a petty, desperate, selfish, and brilliantly awful one. (We always knew Peep Show was smart, but this week’s nod to Shakespearean irony when Mark Corrigan channelled Mark Anthony and used the phrase “an honourable man” to describe a complete Brutus was nothing short of swotty).

Having misjudged last week’s cat adoption, Mark was in need of a new Dobby trap, so opted to abuse his new-found power as chairman of the freehold committee and blow the sinking fund on his mouldy wall. In the continuum of bad things Mark’ has done, it’s no almost-jilting or desk-drawer urination, but it was a pretty low blow.

Speaking of lowness, Jez surely reached his nadir inside Big Mad Andy’s landfill bin-bag, proving himself to be as helpless as a new-born mouse pup without Mark. Forced to dance like an inflatable mascot on a car forecourt for Mark’s nephew and be the punching bag of his angry divorcee sister, the Corrigans have helped and humiliated poor Jez – a man who has measured out his life not in coffee spoons but in limited edition Tango cans and old-school pornography – in equal measure.

Welcome back to Sarah Corrigan (Eliza Bennett), incidentally, whom we last saw being rebuffed by Jez in last series’ wonderful Christmas Day episode. Her “Did Mummy do well? Yes Mummy did very well. Do you like the man Mummy got us? He’s funny isn’t he? Yes he’s very funny” monologue to son Joshie was terrific stuff.

Another welcome is in order for this week’s lead writer,  Fresh Meat and The Armstrong & Miller Show ’s Tom Basden, who didn’t fumble the ball. Chairman Mark had plenty of great lines (“as wet as an eagle”, the celeb triumvirate of Jools Holland, Mark Ronson and Werner Herzog, that wry dig at The Killing… ), as well as satifying continuity with previous episodes. Not everybody loves bees, Mark.

The series three reference in the title of the next episode – Quantocking II – may not deter accusations that the current run of Peep Show is re-treading old ground, but really, when the ground’s this much fun, it can stand a re-treading or two.

Peep Show’s series eight finale will air on Christmas Eve.

Jeremy in Love is the third episode of series 6 and thirty-third overall episode of Peep Show .

Summary [ ]

Dobster

Dobby , providing Mark with some words of encouragement.

Jeremy realizes he is in love with Elena , but she is nervous about saying the three magic words back. He decides to slip in the sentiment quickly an inconspicuously in conversation while they are at dinner at the very fancy Gallery restaurant . Her response is disappointing. She just tells him that she is a "complicated person" and that he's too selfish for her to be in love with. To show her that he isn't selfish, he goes to a town far away to get her her favorite type of spelt bread, but she still doesn't tell him she loves him.

Since Mark is still unemployed, Dobby encourages him to become a historical walking tour guide. Mark gets the job, but the people on his tour aren't impressed with how academic he is--they want him to speak more about Jack the Ripper. Realizing that this is the only way to keep the job, Mark begins acting theatrical and talking about murders, which makes the crowd like him.

Penelope Beaumont as Jan

Jan evaluates Mark's first history walk.

Robert Popper as annoying man 2

A history walk participant heckles Mark.

Meanwhile, Jeremy discovers that Elena was caught looking at porn at work. He offers to cover for her, and he tells her boss that he has a "wanking disease" and was using her computer to look at porn. Her boss doesn't particularly believe him, but also doesn't care very much, and chooses not to fire her.

Meanwhile, Mark is worried that there is porn on his computer and that the woman running the historical tours found it. Although she didn't, Jeremy goes up to her and tells her that "the porn on Mark's computer was mine", ruining Mark's integrity and making him lose the chance of the job.

How five entrepreneurs launched their own walking tour companies

I f you’ve a penchant for history, culture or food, or have any sort of local offbeat intel, you may very well have fantasized about opening up a little walking tour operation, whether as a full-time business or as a side gig.

Ahead, these city-trotters share how they made pounding the pavement work.

Gabriel Schoenberg, Graff Tours

Schoenberg’s uncle was a tour guide for many years, and the entrepreneur worked for him in college to make extra money. “I saw a graffiti art tour in Buenos Aires and thought it was amazing so I adapted it to NYC,” he said of the origins of his Bushwick business in 2013.

Now, the Greenpoint resident nets “a few thousand” a month through Graff Tours, his sole gig. In addition to tours, his company offers graffiti art classes and does live painting events. “Being a good tour guide is about your passion for the topic, so only guide in a field you love,” said Schoenberg, who recommends reading up on your area of interest to become even more of a subject-matter expert.

Seth Kamil, Big Onion Walking Tours

Founded in 1991, Kamil, based in South Slope, has been at the helm of this NYC business for 33 years. The company was born out of “accident and economic necessity,” when two Columbia University American history Ph.D. students — Kamil and his co-founder Ed O’Donnell — needed to make money.

The pair committed to only hire graduate students and recent, underemployed Ph.D.s, which “is still the core of our business model,” said Kamil.

O’Donnell left the company, but Kamil runs Big Onion full time to this day.

To succeed in this industry, Kamil stressed being original.

“Read books, articles — but don’t take the tours that other guides are leading to try and build your knowledge base,” he said.

Alana Hoye Barnaba, Ahoy New York Food Tours

Originally from Gloversville, NY, Hoye Barnaba moved to NYC, where she was often visited by loved ones on the weekend, so she’d spend time showing them around.

“I realized that I had a knack for sharing my city and started to volunteer for Big Apple Greeter ,” she said of the free organization that connects visitors with residents willing to share their knowledge of the city.

Ultimately, she decided to pursue her sightseeing license to become an official tour guide and spent time developing what is today the operator’s signature tour — a food walking tour of Chinatown and Little Italy.

In 2010, Hoye Barnaba made it her full-time job.

Along with finding your niche, Hoye Barnaba said organization is key. “Secondly, if you intend to hire, have proper training materials and teach consistency to your staff so that your product is the same quality no matter who is giving the tour,” she said.

Hoye Barnaba hopes to become a $1 million tour company in 2024. “We were just shy of it last year,” she said.

Todd Lefkovic, Foods of NY Tours

Based in Greenwich Village, Lefkovic (on the right) originally hails from Cranford, NJ. As a young boy, he became fascinated with NYC, watching the local news and reading the newspaper. Then in the summer of 1977, aged 15, he began making forays into the city to explore.

Lefkovic still fondly recollects exploring 42nd Street for the first time. “There were a lot of peep show shops, XXX theaters, prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers and derelicts on the street. Coming from Cranford — a quiet and clean suburban town — this was the best thing ever to experience!”

Lefkovic continued to bring friends, family and girlfriends into the city to explore. All of it was done by hoofing it, never taking a taxi or riding the subway. “The only real way to explore is on foot,” Lefkovic avowed.

His official business started in 1998 and became his full-time gig a year later. They currently run food tours five days a week. While the pandemic dented his business — in 2019 gross revenue was $3 million; it’s now $1.1 million — that’s still no paltry sum.

To build up your business, venture to parts lesser known, the touring guru advised. “Create your own food tour in an area that is not overrun by other food tours,” said Lefkovic.

Stephen Oddo, Walks Tours

While Oddo is based in Boston, his company operates tours in NYC along with 24 other cities in North America and Europe.

The idea for his company began in 2008, when Oddo was living in Rome and working as a tour guide at the Vatican and Colosseum.

“I wanted to show people new ways to experience these familiar monuments, with an emphasis on quality guides, smaller groups and unique itineraries,” he said.

In 2014, Walks expanded to NYC with small group walking tours of the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and 9/11 memorial tours. In 2022, Walks became the official tour operator of Grand Central Terminal.

Last year, Oddo also served as a mentor for the Alliance for Downtown New York’s Walking Tour Incubator Grant Program, which gives money to entrepreneurs starting walking tours in lower Manhattan.

While most of the Walks guides work part time, Oddo also hires many of them to write for its travel blogs and create social media content. “Their local knowledge is incredibly valuable,” said Oddo, sharing that tour guides around the world tend to make between $40 to $80 per hour.

Oddo’s top tips for aspiring amblers? Make sure to collect and publish good customer reviews to build trust with future clients.

“Producing quality social media videos on platforms like Instagram and TikTok can be highly valuable,” he said. And, “especially in New York, you’ll need to find creative ways to reach potential clients that already have a lot of choices when it comes to experiences.”

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, StyleCaster may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

I’ll never forget when I discovered Everlane online a while back. A pair of navy, cropped, wide-leg pants caught my eye and stuck with me for a while. Although I didn’t end up buying them, I remember thinking the brand was paving the way with its high-quality clothing made in ethical factories and without any markups. Ever since then, I’ve been a big fan, and if you are, too, you might be on the hunt for brands like Everlane .

Everlane prides itself on making modern essentials that you can carry from season to season and year to year. I know from first-hand experience that the brand’s offerings are not only super stylish but also made to last (peep the basic tees and tanks I’ve had in my closet for several years). In fact, if you asked me to think about where to shop for a capsule wardrobe , I’d immediately tell you to check out Everlane. Its pieces are just that versatile and classic!

For timeless, minimalist , modern basics that will come in clutch for almost any outfit you put together, Everlane has to be your first stop. Take it from me, a shopping editor, who has enjoyed sporting many garments from this environmentally- and ethically-conscious brand.

Everlane uses the finest materials (some are even recycled), and it’s evident in the brand’s Grade-A cashmere sweaters, Italian shoes, and Peruvian Pima tees. Plus, Everlane only works with factories that score a 90 or above on compliance audits, which look at fair wages, reasonable hours, and the environment. You also won’t see any markups on the site because the brand values transparency with its shoppers. It shares the actual costs behind its products (i.e. materials, labor, and transportation) and sells them for reasonable prices .

Now that I’m done gushing over Everlane, let’s get to the best brands that are similar to Everlane so you can work smarter, not harder with your wardrobe. Style sits at the top of my requirements checklist. However, most of my picks have price tags in the same affordable range as Everlane. But if you’re after a slightly bougier label, there’s still an option for you in this list.

Keep scrolling to discover five brands like Everlane—just in time for a spring fashion refresh !

Brands Like Everlane - Quince

Quince is the best Everlane alternative in terms of price and style. The brand’s motto says it all: “High-quality essentials, radically low prices.” You’ll actually find lower prices on Quince’s site, so if you’re shopping on a budget, you know where to go. Similar to Everlane, Quince brings you the finest materials at more affordable costs. I’m talking Mongolian cashmere, Italian leather, Turkish cotton, and washable silk all for way less. Plus, it follows in Everlane’s footsteps regarding transparency. Spot the traditional retail price on each product page versus what Quince is selling it for.

If you’re not sure where to start on the brand’s site, check out our team’s Quince review to see the clothes on. Here are some more Everlane-adjacent styles from Quince, below.

Brands Like Everlane - Madewell

There’s no chance Madewell doesn’t make this list of brands like Everlane because they have near-identical aesthetics if you ask me. The two make trendy and durable jeans, along with basics that you could throw on for almost any occasion. Both of their prices are also close together, with Madewell being a little more expensive. Whether you’re on the hunt for bags, shoes, swimsuits, or spring essentials, you truly can’t run out of options at Madewell.

Brands Like Everlane - Uniqlo

Uniqlo is a more casual and less expensive version of Everlane. If you search Uniqlo on Google, you’ll find that it offers “high-quality essentials without the high price tag.” Sound familiar? Uniqlo does what Everlane has nailed: basics. The brand has plain tees, linen blazers, and sleeveless dresses galore, along with plenty of innovative fabrics.

Brands Like Everlane - Banana Republic

Some of the brands I’ve mentioned so far have had lower prices, but if you’re trying to pinpoint a brand that is a bit more bougie, I highly suggest you head over to Banana Republic . While its overall aesthetic feels more elevated, it still sells the bread-and-butter garments that make up a well-balanced wardrobe. Take, for example, the cardigan, jeans, and dress, below.

The 35 best things to do in D.C. this weekend and next week

The cherry blossoms are gone, but spring really shifts into high gear this weekend — and we’re not just saying that because a Formula One car is racing up and down Pennsylvania Avenue NW on Saturday afternoon. Filmfest DC officially opens Thursday, Earth Day activities abound, the National Cannabis Festival returns, National Park Week begins, Saturday is Record Store Day and there are plenty of delicious beverages to sip.

Oh, and in case you haven’t heard — Taylor Swift has a new album coming out first thing Friday. We have a whole list of listening parties, bingo, trivia and other events .

Thursday, April 18

Filmfest DC

Downtown’s beloved Landmark E Street Cinema is the site of most of the screenings for Filmfest DC, the Washington film festival now in its 38th year. This year’s 10-day festival spans 65 films from 32 countries, including selections from the Arabian Sights Film Festival, which merged with Filmfest DC in 2020. At Landmark, watch movies like “Bye Bye Tiberias,” a documentary about actress Hiam Abbass’s return to her Palestinian village after a long absence; French screwball comedy “A Difficult Year,” about a pair of grifters turned unlikely climate activists; South Korean road rage thriller “A Normal Family”; and MetroShorts, a collection of short works by D.C.-based filmmakers. Filmfest DC is also taking selections outside of the theater, with an alfresco movie night at the Wharf and a free showing of go-go documentary “Bring the Beat” at the Kennedy Center. Through April 28 at various times and locations. Free to $14 for individual films; “director’s pass” for 10 films $100 .

Tortured Poets Department Album Release Party at Royal Sands Social Club

A fundraiser for the American Heart Association, the Miss America Scholarship Foundation and the Miss District of Columbia Scholarship Organization, the party at the Royal Sands includes a screening of the “ Eras Tour ” film, friendship-bracelet-making stations, Swift-themed cocktail specials and a photo scavenger hunt, leading up to the midnight listening party. Look for $9 drinks and discounted food, including sushi and ahi tuna tacos. Admission includes a door prize ticket for prizes including merchandise or gift cards from D.C. businesses, and unlimited friendship bracelets. 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. $35-$40 .

Third Thursdays: Documenting Music in D.C. at Alley Cat

This edition of the Friendship Heights Alliance’s Third Thursday events explores the history of the District’s ever-changing music scene, from 1920s jazz to 1970s go-go and 1980s punk. Hear from Charvis Campbell, executive director of Home Rule Music and Film , and Cynthia Connolly, photographer, curator and publisher of “Banned in D.C.: Photos and Anecdotes from the D.C. Punk Underground ’76-’86.” 6 to 8 p.m. Free.

Passover Movie Night at Sixth and I: ‘The Prince of Egypt’

DreamWorks’ 1998 animated film “The Prince of Egypt” is the center point of Sixth and I’s Passover celebrations. Along with the movie, which tells the story of the Book of Exodus, expect snacks, drinks and a singalong to the Oscar-winning ballad “When You Believe.” Despite the movie technically being geared toward kids, the event is open only for those 21 and over. The movie kicks off at 8 p.m., and the happy begins half an hour earlier. 7:30 p.m. $18.

Friday, April 19

National Cannabis Festival at the Festival Grounds at RFK

Organizers hope the National Cannabis Festival eventually grows into “South by Southwest for cannabis lovers,” with advocacy events and the National Cannabis Championship among the festivities surrounding the festival, held the weekend of 4/20 (obviously) at the RFK Festival Grounds. But the two-day concert remains the major draw, and this year’s edition might be the biggest ever, headlined by Wu-Tang Clan and Redman on Saturday. (Let’s say the odds are high you will hear “How High.”) Thundercat tops the bill Friday night, but the lineup is loaded with D.C. talent, including go-go troupe Backyard Band, techno trio Black Rave Culture and rapper Noochie, whose “Live From the Front Porch” series has turned his yard into one of the city’s most exciting venues . Friday from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. $55-$900 .

Bad Reputation Fest at the Runaway

The rumors of the Runaway’s demise have been greatly exaggerated, with the Brookland venue slated to close before being saved by a well-timed rent decrease. To celebrate, the club is hosting Bad Reputation Fest, promising three days of beers, burgers and nearly 20 bands. On the audio agenda: punk and rock, mostly from the DMV, including monster-themed surf act Daikaiju, “happy punks” Buko Buko, indie rockers Broken Hills and many more. Through Sunday. $35 .

Formula One fan fest at Union Market

Formula One racing has grown in popularity in D.C., with die-hard fans waking up early or staying up late so they don’t miss broadcasts from Japan, the Netherlands and other far-flung racetrack locations. This weekend, Red Bull Racing — the team that boasts F1’s top two drivers, Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez — visits D.C. for a two-day promo trip. The event starts Friday afternoon with a fan fest outside Union Market, featuring an RB19 car on display, racing simulators, Q&As, a hands-on pit stop challenge, a merch shop and a performance by Joony. 2 to 7 p.m. Free .

Taylor Swift Rave at Public Bar Live

This aptly named event at the multilevel Public Bar is more dance party than listening party, and every available inch around the dance floor fills up when the DJ starts. Expect all the hits, themed drinks and photo stations. Organized by Drinks in the District, the rave features Hot 99.5, which is raffling tickets for the Eras Tour show in New Orleans. 10 p.m. $24.99 .

Taylor Swift Album Drop Party at Bark Social

Does your four-legged friend love “1989” as much as you do, or is it more of a “Fearless” Chihuahua? Dress your dog up for its favorite Era at Bark Social’s Alexandria and North Bethesda dog park/beer garden hybrids, which will be playing Taylor Swift tunes, awarding prizes for the best Taylor-inspired human and dog costumes, and serving $5 Swiftie cocktails. No dog is required for entry, though dogs must be registered with Bark Social, including their current vaccine records. Bethesda from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Alexandria from 5 to 10 p.m. Free for humans. Dogs require a day pass or monthly membership. (If your dog isn’t already a member, you can get a free day pass online.)

The Rakim & DJ Jazzy Jeff & Ravi Coltrane Project at the Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center’s inaugural Hip-Hop &… Festival staged several shows in March, but its closing event brings together hip-hop icons Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff with saxophonist and bandleader Ravi Coltrane, the son of John and Alice Coltrane, for a performance with a full band. 8 p.m. $59-$169 .

‘Sustainable Fashion, Waste and Black Consumerism’ at Eaton House

This three-day event at the Eaton hotel dedicates the weekend before Earth Day to discussions about sustainability in fashion culture, including clothing waste management, and Black consumerism. Panels include topics like the “psychology, marketing and influence of the Black dollar in fashion”; there’s a demonstration on upcycling old jewelry; and guest speakers including Bridgett Artise share tales from the growing sustainability movement in the industry. There are also pop-up (sustainable!) shops throughout the event. Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from noon to 7:30 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. $25-$55.

House of Rendered Reflections Fashion Show at Artomatic

In honor of Earth Day, the sprawling Artomatic arts festival presents a sustainable runway show of local and environmentally conscious fashion. 6 p.m. Free .

Earth Day activities

Earth Day isn’t enough for the crunchy city of Takoma Park , which celebrates a whole Earth Month, including a party in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park. Join for a guided tree walk, face painting, snow cones and art activities. ( 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free. ) At the annual Earth Day Fairfax at the Sully Historic Site, kids can learn about the science of weather forecasting, do experiments, meet farm animals or visit a touch-a-truck exhibit, while adults enjoy live music, yoga and ax throwing, or visit the local craft beer garden. ( 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free; $10 parking. ) The Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery team up for the Earth Day Family Festival , with live music, scavenger hunts, curator talks and, of course, hands-on art activities. ( 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free .) The Anacostia Community Museum’s Honor Earth festival features walking tours, chalk art, a clothing swap, exhibitors talking about plant care and D.C.’s tree canopy, and youth cooking and tasting demos. ( 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free .)

Red Bull Showrun and Formula One viewing party

Continuing with the F1 action (see Friday), Red Bull shuts down Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and Seventh streets NW for the Showrun , with 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard driving an RB7 Formula One car along a closed course between 4 and 6 p.m. Gates open at 1:30 p.m., with food and drinks and interactive activities. Red Bull’s FAQ for the event says, “If possible, please bring and wear ear protection.” That evening, the D.C. Motorsport Community hosts a viewing party for the Chinese Grand Prix at Duke’s Grocery in Navy Yard. Since the race doesn’t begin until 3 a.m. Eastern time, there’s a pre-party starting at 10:30 p.m. with DJs Alex Love and Farrah Flosscett, drink specials, and a late-night food menu. Duke’s is open until 6 a.m., with the race and F1 TV data screens on all TVs.

Rooftop Beer Fest at Hi-Lawn

The spacious Hi-Lawn bar atop Union Market is planning an epic picnic on its faux-green grass: The inaugural Rooftop Beer Fest brings in 16 brewers to pour unlimited samples. D.C. favorites like Anxo, Atlas Brew Works, DC Brau and Right Proper Brewing are joined by out-of-town producers, including Two Roads Brewing, Allagash and Sierra Nevada. (Nonalcoholic beer will be available, too.) Hi-Lawn is grilling brats all day, or you can snag tacos from Little Miner Taco and Nashville-style hot chicken sandwiches from pop-up Little Hot Chicken. Lawn games and live music round out the afternoon fun. Two three-hour sessions begin at noon and 4 p.m. Noon to 7 p.m. $40-$50 .

‘The Big Lebowski’ parties

While shooting “The Big Lebowski,” Jeff Bridges, who played Jeffrey “the Dude” Lebowski, would ask the Coen brothers, “ Did the Dude burn one before this scene? ” That should tell you why viewing the 26-year-old classic has become a tradition on 4/20. The Alamo Drafthouse theaters in D.C. and Crystal City are hosting their trademark interactive “movie parties” that involve props, such as glow sticks and mini bowling balls for audience members, as well as themed drinks. ( 7 p.m. $16. ) Meanwhile, the annual Big Lebowski Experience at Pearl Street Warehouse is a fittingly weird immersive experience, with costumed characters portraying roles from the film onstage while a band performs the movie’s soundtrack. You’ll just have to trust us on this one. Costumes encouraged. ( 7 p.m. doors. $16.50-$30. )

Record Store Day at Love People Records

Record Store Day returns with some sought-after vinyl — a single with Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan covering each other’s songs; a new Pearl Jam album; a 1996 De La Soul concert recording — that will bring lines to local record stores. Byrdland near Union Market has a waiting list for Saturday morning appointments; at Annapolis’s Ka-Chunk , people have been known to get in line as early as midnight. If you’re making the day a vibe instead of just hunting for limited-release records, though, head to Kensington. Love People Records — one of our favorite recent arrivals — is shutting down Fawcett Street for the day, with DJs, live music from Oddisee and Rack-Lo, live painting, and food and drinks. Noon to 6 p.m. Free .

Taylor Swift Karaoke at Quincy Hall

Ballston’s Quincy Hall marked the release of “ 1989 (Taylor’s Version) ” with a Halloween karaoke contest — a gambit so popular that the venue is resurrecting it for an album of new material. Get there early to sign up for classic hits or new material, sip on themed cocktails, and sing along with whoever’s on the mic. Specials include $3 pizza slices and $3 jello shots from 9 p.m. until close. 9:30 p.m. Free .

National Park Week

National Park “Week” is actually bigger than the name suggests: The celebration of America’s national parks stretches to nine days, each constructed around a different theme, such as conservation on Earth Day (Monday) or Junior Ranger Day (April 27). The fun starts Saturday with “Discovery,” when entrance fees are waived at parks across the country . In the D.C. region, this includes Great Falls Park and Great Falls Tavern, Fort McHenry, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and Prince William Forest Park. This is a busy day for parks, so early arrival is recommended. Through April 28. Free on Saturday; prices vary other days .

Brookside Gardens Plant Sale

We’re fully into plant sale season, which is a boon for anyone who needs a nudge to start beautifying their patio or backyard. Enjoy a day out at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, exploring the Japanese-style garden or the colorful azaleas, before browsing small plants, shrubs and trees for sale and getting advice on care and feeding from the gardens’ horticulturists. Proceeds benefit the public garden. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free .

Georgetown House Tour

The reliably charming Georgetown House Tour provides a rare chance to peep inside historic homes in one of the city’s best-known neighborhoods, and the properties on this year’s tour feature intriguing backstories. For example, Archie Roosevelt Jr. — a grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt — and his wife, Selwa, restored a house on N Street NW from near ruin to splendor in the 1950s, while a brick rowhouse on P Street NW was once home to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and his wife, Nancy. Some are just drop-dead gorgeous: One house on S Street NW features a small pool and a backyard pond right in the middle of bustling Georgetown. Stick around after your walking tour for a refined snack during the Parish Tea at St. John’s Episcopal Church from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., stocked with desserts from partners like Georgetown Cupcake and Olivia Macaron. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. $60 in advance, $65 on the day of the tour .

Zwanze Day at the Sovereign

Every year, cult Brussels brewery Cantillon releases a brand-new beer that’s exclusively available at parties taking place simultaneously (or mostly simultaneously) around the world, from Shanghai to Thessaloniki, and Sydney to Stockholm. D.C.’s participant is, of course, the Belgian beer bar the Sovereign. Head to Georgetown for a day of celebration, with seven Cantillon lambic beers on draft, and seven others, including rare vintages, in bottles. This year’s Zwanze Day beer is a typically unusual offering : a two-year-old lambic blended with sea lettuce and fermented underwater in abalone cages in France. How does it taste? You’ll have to wait until the mass toast at 3 p.m. Eastern time. There are no tickets, so arrive early. 10 a.m. Free admission .

Chacho’s Spicy Margarita Launch Party

When Chacho, the D.C.-based distillers of a spicy, jalapeño-infused aguardiente, announced the release of a canned cocktail earlier this month, the press release from the founder sounded as surprised as anyone else. “Are we a few years late to the party? Yes. Are there already hundreds of established big-name brands to compete with? Also yes.” Chacho does have a secret weapon, though: Its spicy spirit, which is found on bars across the city, is the backbone of an award-winning margarita served in the distillery tasting room. To mark the arrival of the canned Spicy Margarita in stores, Chacho is hosting a launch party with food trucks and tastings at the distillery. 1 to 5 p.m. Free .

Sunday, April 21

Earth Day Market at Waredaca Brewing

Laytonsville’s Waredaca — a craft brewery on a working, environmentally conscious horse farm — marks Earth Day with a pop-up market offering flowers, plants, vintage home goods and other vendors, plus a taco truck and live music. Noon to 4 p.m. Free .

Women’s Market at Caboose Commons

Soaps, candles, yarn, children’s accessories, jewelry and prints are among the handmade objects that 20 vendors are showcasing and selling during the Women’s Market at Fairfax’s Caboose Commons. Grab a beer (or cocktail or soda) while browsing vintage goods and listening to live music by singer-songwriter Lauren Farrar. 3 to 7 p.m. Free .

Rich Medina at Extended Play

Rich Medina is a man of many talents: a globe-trotting DJ; the founder of the Afrobeat dance party Jump N Funk; a producer who worked with Jill Scott; a spoken word artist; a college lecturer. But above all that, he is most gifted at getting crowds to move as one. Medina visits Northeast Washington this weekend to headline Extended Play , the monthly dance party that takes over the loading dock outside restaurant incubator Mess Hall . There’s Hawaiian and Filipino food from Kam and 46, as well as a full bar. 5 to 10 p.m. $20-$30 .

Freigeist Kolsch Fest at the Roost

The experience of drinking in Cologne is not just about sipping kolsch, the easy-drinking golden beer served in a slim, cylindrical 6.8-ounce glass, known as a stange. It’s about the culture surrounding the service: How the blue-aproned waiters, known as kobes, circle the room, carrying trays of full beers, and plop one down automatically in front of anyone who’s emptied their glass, and draw another tick on a beer mat to track the table’s consumption. Why is this relevant? Because the Roost is hosting what it’s calling “traditional German kolsch service” this weekend, with German brewery Freigeist Bierkultur ’s Ottekolong kolsch flowing until customer says “when” (or the three hours are up). Sebastian Sauer, the founder of Freigeist, is the host, and some of its other beers will be sold a la carte. Noon to 3 p.m. $39 .

MoCA on the Move: Celebrating Spring at Metropolitan Park

The weekly series by the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington returns with live music, food trucks and family-friendly crafting. This week’s guests are abstract expressionist painter Zhenya Parish , who will lead a session in “the art of letting go,” and guitarist Sean Tracy . 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free.

Kids’ cooking class at Maggiano’s

Stop singing “On Top of Spaghetti” and take your little one to learn how to actually make a meatball. Grab a bite from the breakfast buffet and learn, from a chef at the Chevy Chase restaurant, how to make meatballs, step by step in a hands-on demonstration. The class is recommended for kids age 4 to 12, who will receive their own chef hat and apron to take home. 9 to 11 a.m. $30 for kids, $15 for adults.

Monday, April 22

Start Earth Day with a free yoga class at Yards Park , though there’s also an evening class if you’re not a morning person. ( 7 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. Free. ) The U.S. Department of Agriculture hosts an Earth Day festival on the National Mall with garden tours, scavenger hunts, and exhibits on such topics as food waste, crop production, the role of bees and conservation on farms. Look out for appearances by Woodsy Owl, Smokey Bear and friends, as well as food vendors. ( 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free .)

Taylor Swift Party at the Pug

The Pug seems an unlikely place for a Taylor Swift party — the soundtrack at the divey H Street bar is primarily punk and go-go — and yet it’s been hosting release parties for Swifties since “Midnights” dropped in October 2022, thanks to owner Tony Tomelden and his intrepid regulars. These very crowded, very fun events turn the crowd into a communal choir, singing at the top of their lungs. Don’t expect fancy themed cocktails, though. It’s a beer-and-a-shot place at heart, no matter what’s playing on the turntable. 8 p.m. Free .

Tuesday, April 23

Profs and Pints lecture: Good, Evil and ‘Dune’ at Penn Social

When you walked out of the theater after the recent blockbuster “Dune: Part Two,” did you think protagonist Paul Atreides was a hero? If so, Peter Herman, former Marymount University lecturer and scholar of religious and social themes in fiction, disagrees. At this Profs and Pints lecture, he argues author Frank Herbert’s intentions to showcase Atreides as not a revolutionary leader, but another in a long line of tyrants. 6 to 8:30 p.m. $13.50 in advance; $17 at doors.

Wednesday, April 24

Lena Seikaly at Blues Alley

Duke Ellington’s 125th birthday is celebrated across his hometown this month, but one of our favorite events is also one of the coziest: At Blues Alley, D.C. jazz fixture Lena Seikaly honors the classic album “Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Song Book” with two sets of her favorite songs from those two greats. 7 and 9 p.m. $35 .

1921 Biergarten Birthday Party at the Heurich House Museum

Can you believe the 1921 Biergarten behind Dupont Circle’s Heurich House is five years old? That’s only 125 years younger than the house itself. Spend the afternoon crafting — make a birthday card, decorate a cupcake — in the airy garden while enjoying local craft beer and cider, and check out the Home/Brewed exhibit, which honors former resident Christian Heurich, who owned D.C.’s largest 20th-century brewery as well as the historic mansion. 4 to 8 p.m. Free; RSVP requested .

Zeppelin fifth anniversary party

Inspired by dirigibles, decorated with an exterior mural of Godzilla, and known for serving up Japanese cuisine and vibrant karaoke in equal measure, Zeppelin has become a landmark in Shaw. The restaurant marks its fifth anniversary with a party featuring free sushi, free kushiyaki (skewered and grilled) snacks, and $5 cocktails. Appropriately for a place where the dining room pays homage to Led Zeppelin, 1960s and ’70s rock star attire is requested. 5 to 9 p.m. Free .
