Many American Express premium cards come with a slew of benefits from Centurion and Priority Pass lounge access to premium hotel programs like Fine Hotels and Resorts and the International Airline Program offering flight discounts. But, there is one perk that may seem a bit underrated.

The American Express concierge service can help you score hard-to-get reservations, theater tickets or tours you may not be able to secure yourself. In addition, they can send flowers, help during travel disruptions and even work on your behalf to get travel refunds you’re owed. Think of it like a built-in travel assistant without the payroll headaches (it’s all part of the annual fee as long as you don’t abuse the privilege).

Here’s a rundown of how the American Express concierge service works.

How to use the American Express travel concierge

Just pick up the phone — American Express has concierges that speak 13 languages to help you. The number is listed on the back of your card. While using the concierge service is free, you’ll be charged for any purchases you use via their service (tickets, deliveries, reservations, etc.). But, of course, if you use them for assistance on travel refunds or other service-related requests, it’s free. That’s where some big-time value can come into play instead of managing certain things yourself, especially during the pandemic when many people struggled to keep up with airline credits or refunds .

When you call, you explain what you need. Flowers sent to a loved one in another city? No problem. Last-minute, front-row seats to a concert that seems sold out online? Let them give it a try! You make the request and they are there to help.

They’re not magicians, but they have clout working for American Express.

Those with the top-notch Centurion Card can even request the same dedicated concierge when they call that knows their personal preferences rather than working with a new person each time. Terms apply.

Outlandish Amex concierge reservations and requests

As you might expect, big spenders might also have some out-of-the-ordinary purchase habits. The American Express Platinum concierge team has seen it all. Their job is to impress clients.

From having ice cubes replenished to a private island via helicopter to hard-to-find toiletries delivered in a speedboat to an overwater villa in the Maldives, the requests run the gamut. But, of course, you’ll have to foot the bill for the extra expenses.

They can organize truffle hunting in Italy or gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Regarding travel, they can coordinate luxury suites on cruise ships and hotels and coordinate destination itineraries like a top travel advisor.

AmEx Platinum concierge dinner reservations are sure to lead to a better table than what you might be able to get yourself. One cardholder says the American Express travel concierge secured a VIP table next to former pro footballer David Beckham at a world-renowned steakhouse and was attended to by the celebrity owner himself.

In a medical crisis, the concierge can help secure hospital admissions and even file your insurance claims for you.

The bottom line

Years ago, I came across a great Reddit thread about a former American Express Concierge. I loved re-reading his entertaining stories about member requests that came to his office. Cards that are eligible for American Express Concierge

The Concierge is available to anyone who holds one of the Platinum variety of cards from American Express, as well as select premium cobranded cards. Eligible cards include Business Platinum Card® from American Express, The Platinum Card® from American Express, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card and the exclusive "Black Card" known as the Amex Centurion Card. Centurion cardholders will have a dedicated concierge assigned to them. Meanwhile, Platinum cardholders receive a different concierge for each request.

How to contact the American Express Concierge

Call 1-800-525-3355 to reach an American Express Concierge. For international collect calls, dial 954-473-2123. There is no service charge to use the concierge. Any charges related to your request will be placed on your Platinum Card. In my experience, the concierge usually asks for a not-to-exceed amount based on what you're trying to get done.

Types of Amex Concierge requests

Most requests coming into the Platinum Concierge fall into one of the following categories: flowers, concert/show tickets or restaurant reservations. Here are some tips on how to proceed with each:

american express centurion travel phone number

Have the concierge contact local florists instead of online services like 1-800-Flowers or FTD. Because my last two online confirmed orders weren't delivered on time, I now use the concierge. The service works directly with a local shop to confirm details like delivery time, price range and the particular arrangement I request.

Concert/show tickets

american express centurion travel phone number

Perhaps an undersold value of this service is that Amex can grab tickets the second they go on sale for your desired concert. This means you don't have to step out of a meeting at an awkward time or continually hit the refresh button only to miss out on the tickets anyway.

Give the concierge an adequate heads-up before tickets going on sale, with as much or little direction about the location and ticket costs as you desire. Tickets purchased by the concierge through TicketMaster don't have the online convenience fee.

Restaurant reservations

american express centurion travel phone number

The Amex Global Dining Collection allows you to search a database of restaurants that are familiar with taking reservations from the Amex team. Some of the concierges who routinely work the dining reservations are rumored to be on a first-name basis with the host and maitre d' of some of the best restaurants in New York City, Paris and London. You should still plan as far in advance as possible to ensure you'll get a table.

I've found the concierge helpful for dining situations where I say, "I'd like a romantic Italian dinner in Chicago near the Navy pier. Can you provide three or four options for me that have reservations for tonight?" I once got a last-minute table at the classic Parisian restaurant A la Biche au Bois — and it was fantastic. I've even got extra perks like free drinks at appetizers at Global Dining Collection restaurants.

Travel-related assistance

american express centurion travel phone number

Although you should contact Amex Travel if you need help booking new travel, the concierge may be able to help with already-booked trips. During the pandemic, many cardholders have utilized the concierge to help with complicated cancelations, trip rebookings and getting refunds while airlines were slammed with other requests. Similarly, they can help you get home quickly when things go wrong during a trip. For instance, when TPG's Brian Kelly was stranded in Bali during the Mount Agung volcano eruption , his Centurion concierge strung together a series of vans, ferries and planes to get him off the island at a time when most other people were out of options.

Unusual Amex Concierge requests

The sky's the limit here, but you must give your request a common-sense check before submitting something so outlandish that no one can accomplish it. My own requests have included:

  • Having a baby sun hat waiting at the Hyatt Regency Guam. I was flying in from cold Japan with my four-month-old on a last-minute business trip. A few hats were waiting at the check-in desk when we arrived — unfortunately, none that fit.
  • A few years ago, the concierge located a two-foot-tall balloon in the shape of the number one, for my son's first birthday party and had it delivered to the house.

Some of my favorite (successful) requests I've read about include:

  • A gentleman asking the concierge to have his children picked up from school because he was with his mistress. The concierge arranged a limo service to pick them up.
  • A gentleman in a hotel bathroom requested a new wardrobe as he had an accident during a business meeting. The concierge contacted the hotel concierge, who delivered new slacks, underwear and socks to the man in the stall.
  • A woman saw a pair of earrings in an obscure foreign film. She called the concierge, told them the film and scene with the earrings. The concierge was able to locate a store that sold them.

Success with unusual requests can come down to the individual concierge and how much effort they're willing to put into getting you what you want. As with all customer service, not all concierges are created equal. It's obvious that many times they did a quick Google search or made a single phone call and found out a reservation or ticket was not available. However, most have tried to go the extra mile for me and provide an alternative if my number-one choice wasn't attainable.

Is concierge service worth the call?

The concierge service available to Amex Platinum cardholders is most valuable to people too busy to complete time-sensitive tasks like making reservations, buying tickets and doing a little research. Relying on the good people on the other side of the phone for these errands can simplify things. Plus, if you're polite and gracious to a concierge who has been particularly helpful, they do have the option of giving you their extension so you can work with them routinely.

If you're counting on the concierge to come up with last-minute heroics, my experience suggests success would not be the norm, but it still is a possibility. For routine requests, I've had nothing but positive experiences.

There are similar stories of success and failure from the Amex concierge over at FlyerTalk , which may get your creative juices flowing for how you could best utilize the service.

Other Amex Platinum benefits

Aside from the concierge benefit, The Platinum Card® from American Express offers lots of other valuable benefits. Some of these benefits aren't useful, with the coronavirus pandemic impacting our ability to travel. Some of these benefits have been amended so that cardholders can use them from home.

$200 airline fee credit

As a cardholder, you get an up to $200 airline rebate once per calendar year, meaning every Jan. 1, you get $200 to spend on an airline that you designate. Enrollment required for select benefits.

Airport lounge access

american express centurion travel phone number

Airport lounge access is a cornerstone of the Platinum Card. Cardholders get complimentary access to Delta SkyClubs when holding a valid ticket for same-day travel. Amex has ramped up access to its own Centurion Lounges, with locations in Dallas (DFW), Las Vegas (LAS), New York (LGA), San Francisco (SFO), Miami (MIA) and Seattle (SEA). Cardholders get complimentary access , along with immediate family or up to two guests. You'll also receive Priority Pass Select membership. Enrollment required for select benefits.

Global Entry or TSA Precheck application fee reimbursement

Platinum cardholders can receive a statement credit of up to $85 for TSA Precheck application fee every 4.5 years or up to $100 Global Entry application fee once every 4 years. Global Entry will get you out of lengthy customs and immigration lines when you return from traveling abroad.

Automatic Marriott and Hilton Gold status

With the Platinum Card, you can get automatic Gold status with Marriott and Hilton Honors. Marriott Bonvoy Gold status gets you 25% bonus points on stays, late checkout, room upgrades and more.

Meanwhile, Hilton Honors Gold members get 80% bonus points, free breakfast and space-available room upgrades, among other perks.

This Platinum card benefit is incredibly valuable, especially considering that Gold status normally requires you to complete 25 nights with Marriott and 40 nights or 25 stays with Hilton.

Fine Hotels & Resorts program

The Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts program for American Express Platinum and Business Platinum Card® from American Express cardholders is a hotel booking site that includes added perks and benefits when you use it to book stays. Benefits include availability-based room upgrades, free night offers, complimentary breakfast, early check-in and guaranteed 4 p.m. check-out, resort credits for expenses like restaurants or spa treatments and free Wi-Fi at select properties.

Amex Concierge FAQ

How long do amex concierge requests take to process.

I've had most usual requests handled in a matter of hours, but some have taken 2-4 days depending on business hours and the amount of research required.

Can I use the Amex concierge to book travel?

I don't recommend calling the concierge to arrange any type of travel. They'll pass you off to an American Express Travel Services representative who will begin a very long, drawn-out process of trying to book standard travel over the phone.

Will anyone else be notified of my concierge request?

Your requests will not be shared with anyone, including authorized users, except yourself. If you're having flowers delivered to someone other than (cough) your spouse, they cannot find out. Apparently, many angry spouses have called the service demanding answers for charges on the statement.

Bottom line

The American Express Platinum Concierge is an often-overlooked perk of Amex's premium cards but can be highly valuable. From scoring hard-to-get tickets to finding exactly what you need anywhere in the world, the sky's the limit with what type of requests the concierge can fulfill.

The Atlanta (ATL) American Express Centurion Lounge: Location, Hours, Amenities, and More

Lounge Opening Hours

The Atlanta Centurion Lounge is the latest Centurion Lounge to open worldwide and is also the largest. Unsurprisingly, this lounge has the largest footprint, considering the traffic that Atlanta airport sees daily! With separate indoor and outdoor areas, it’s an AvGeek’s haven.

Let’s look at all this lounge has to offer and what makes it so worthwhile.

ATL Lounge Location and Hours

This lounge is next to gate E11. With all gates at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) airside, you must take the interterminal SkyTrain to reach the E gates and then walk over to E11. The E gates are among several Delta flies out of, so it’s particularly convenient if you’re flying Delta, though it shouldn’t take too long to reach the lounge if you’re flying on another carrier.

Atlanta’s airport is massive, however, and even with the SkyTrain, you should leave plenty of time to get from the lounge to your departing flight. Don’t wait until the last minute!

This lounge is almost 26,000 square feet , double the size of the same lounge at DFW!

You can find a Centurion Lounge in these other cities:

The Atlanta Centurion Lounge is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., which should cover the majority of flight departures.

Centurion Lounge ATL Lifestyle Reception

You’ll need one of the following American Express cards to enter the lounge:

  • The Platinum Card ®  from American Express
  • The Business Platinum Card ®  from American Express
  • Centurion Card ®  from American Express
  • Delta SkyMiles ®  Reserve American Express Card  (when flying on a Delta flight booked with the Delta Reserve card)
  • Delta SkyMiles ®  Reserve Business American Express Card  (when flying on a Delta flight booked with the Delta Reserve card)

When you enter the lounge, an employee will ask you to present a photo I.D. and boarding pass. You won’t be able to enter the lounge without these.

  • If you hold an Amex Platinum card or Amex Business Platinum card and have spent more than $75,000 on either card in the calendar year, you can enter with 2 guests for free.
  • If you don’t meet this spending threshold, you can purchase a day pass, which costs $50 per adult or $30 per child between 2 and 17.
  • If you hold a Delta Reserve card, you’re always subject to the $50-per-adult guest fee or $30 per child between 2 and 17.

You need to follow these guidelines to enter:

  • Access to the lounge is only within 3 hours of departure , so there’s no need to arrive at the airport super early. If you do, you’ll be asked to wait until the 3-hour mark.
  • If your final destination is Atlanta, you can’t use the lounge on arrival. The lounge is for departing passengers only.
  • You can use the lounge prior to 3 hours to departure if you’re on a connecting itinerary, Atlanta is your connecting city, and the layover is longer than 3 hours.

The lounge has tons of seating throughout , making finding a place to sit a bit easier when the lounge is crowded at peak times.

Some of the other Centurion Lounge locations do not have power outlets at every seat, but the Atlanta lounge has charging at most seats.

Amex Centurion ATL Chris Dong

Along the lounge’s windows are high seats facing the planes, which is excellent for AvGeeks. Like the other seats, there are power outlets along the rails.

Amex Centurion ATL Seating

Several flight status boards by the main entrance display the current departure times of all flights departing throughout the airport. As mentioned, you need to keep an eye on this and leave well before your flight, as Atlanta’s airport is so big!

Lounge Amenities

Amex Centurion ATL Walkway

This enormous lounge is built to accommodate the many cardmembers stopping by while transiting through Atlanta.

This Centurion Lounge offers several amenities for both work and play, with private workspaces and outdoor features to make the airport waiting game much more pleasurable.

There is a dual-use family room and multipurpose room, suitable for guests who need more space to spread out.

Amex Centurion ATL Outdoor

Unique to this lounge are 3 (yes, 3!) outdoor terraces , a first for any Centurion Lounge:

  • The largest terrace extends around the perimeter of the lounge and offers views of the planes, tarmac, gates, and runways. This is open to all cardmembers.
  • A pair of outdoor spaces offers fresh air but no views and are surrounded by walls in the middle of the lounge. Still, these are great spots to sit outside without the noise of nearby planes.
  • One of the inside terraces features a private room for Centurion cardholders, an exclusive perk for those members.

This lounge offers 3 shower suites , all of which can be reserved at the front desk. You put your name on a list, and when a shower is ready, your name is called. Towels and soap are provided, and the staff asks you to keep your time inside to less than 30 minutes when other guests are waiting.

In addition to the 3 showers, there were 2 private, all-gender restrooms , along with larger men- and women-only bathrooms.

Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the lounge. Centurion Lounges tend to have particularly fast Wi-Fi, good for downloading content before your departure.

Centurion Lounge ATL Lifestyle Workspace

Those looking to catch up on work can utilize 1 of 5 enclosed workstations. These individual stalls are behind glass doors and feature a table and chair, perfect for staying focused. These are first come, first serve and do not need any reservation.

Phone booths are the perfect place to sit down to work or take a quick conference call.

If you are conducting business, a printer and copier are also on hand.

Amex Centurion ATL Dining Space

On the far end of the lounge on the other side of the atrium are 2 buffet areas , with many booths and dining tables scattered throughout. This is where most of the lounge’s food is found.

For breakfast, guests can choose among dishes such as:

  • Chicken sausage
  • Pimento cheese grits
  • Sweet potato hash
  • Tomato, spinach, egg and scallion bread pudding

For lunch and dinner, dishes may include items such as:

  • Bananas Foster pudding
  • Black-eyed pea biryani
  • Braised greens with smoked turkey
  • Three-cheese macaroni bake
  • Twisted Soul salad with strawberry peppercorn vinaigrette
  • Vegetable gumbo with jalapeño hoe cakes
  • Za’atar grilled chicken thighs with green tomato chimichurri

As you can probably tell, a number of these dishes were a nod to the South. The menu was by local chef Deborah VanTrece, author of “The Twisted Soul Cookbook.”

The bars are located in this area, serving complimentary cocktails.
