travel engagement post for facebook group

On social media, the content you post is critical to engaging your audience and creating a solid fan base. Yet, many travel professionals struggle with knowing what to post. Whether you are wondering what to say on Twitter, Facebook, blogs or any other channel, here are some travel content ideas to help get the creative juices flowing:

I’ve said it many MANY times : travel is an experiential product and the best way to get people thinking about travel is to show them fun places to go and fun things they can do while they are there. If you can, share personal or client photos of destinations you want to sell. They don’t need to be professional shots and often work even better if you’re in the photo doing something silly! I’ve had many travel agents report that they sell at least one or two packages they wouldn’t have otherwise every time they post photos of a trip they took.

If you don’t have photos of your own,  Flickr  is a great spot to find amazing shots of every type of destination around the world. Do a quick search and link (don’t steal!) to particularly amazing photography that you think your audience would enjoy.

Videos are also a great way to inspire customers to travel and usually works even better than photos because of their interactive nature. Once again, you don’t always need a professionally shot video to attract attention. A home video of a particularly memorable moment, useful information (like the view of a new cruise ship cabin), fun activities or footage of a new resort will do the trick. Got a knack for humor or publicly humiliating yourself without worry? Great! Use it to your advantage when you create your videos. The funnier the better! For those who are a little camera shy, don’t despair!  YouTube  is a great resource for videos of all kinds.  With a little imagination you can search and find some pretty amazing clips.

3. Useful links

The latest traveler alerts, a list of recommended items to pack, articles about the hottest trends in travel – think about what would be useful for your readership to know and you’ve got some sharable content. This is your chance to show off your expertise as a travel professional and provide your potential customers with information that they may not find otherwise.

Not sure where to find this information? Blogs, news sites, and trade press have articles that can fit the bill. You can also use  Google Alerts  to monitor the web for articles on just about any topic.

4. Blog posts

This one should go without saying, but too many people don’t think about it. If you publish regular blog posts, PLEASE remember to post links to them on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc if you have accounts there. Most blog platforms will allow you to connect your blog to other social channels automatically if you have trouble remembering to post.

5. Destination fun facts

Everyone loves a good bit of trivia or little known facts! It’s entertaining, informative and can again help position you as an expert in your field. Many tourist boards and hotel properties have fun facts available through their marketing department. Just ask to see if they can help you out.  Otherwise, the web is always a good alternative!

Engage your audience by asking them questions about things like their favourite vacation spot, what type of perks they like to get from their agent, what makes their holiday a perfect one, etc. Get them talking to you AND use the opportunity to do a little behind-the-scenes market research to find out what you can do to win and keep their business.

7. Event announcements

Are you attending your local travel show or hosting a consumer evening? Let the world know where you will be and when! Invite your fan base to come see you.  You might be surprised by how many of them show up…and bring a friend!

8. Top 10 lists

Quick, useful and always a good way of giving quick recommendations on destinations to see, things to pack, attractions to visit and more. You can either compile your own top 10 or link to someone else’s. Bonus points if you create your own with photos or video!

9. Community work updates

People like to know that you care about your community.  If you or your team partake in community service or charitable work, share information like updates about your latest donation, photos of your team volunteering, or news about your favourite charity.

10. Contest announcements & updates

Contests are ALWAYS a popular thing. If you choose to run one, you can build anticipation and buzz by posting regular updates. Whether you talk about the prizes, highlight funny entries, countdown the days until the winner is announced or something else, you’re sure to get attention (and probably new followers/fans/readers) really quickly.

11. Travel updates

Here’s another great opportunity to showcase your expertise as a travel expert. Share updates about your favourite suppliers (new bathtubs in every cabin? Service upgrades at a resort? New designer bag with every purchase? Ok…maybe not the last one, but you get the point) or important travel updates about specific destinations (everything from new passport requirements to travel warnings).

12. Ship inspection information

If you are a cruise expert and visit ships while they are in port, by all means, share pictures and reviews with your fans.  They WANT to hear your expert advice to know which ships are worth sailing.

13. Fam trip reports

I know too many agencies who require these reports from staff and then stuff them in a folder where they will never be seen again. You are experiencing travel while on these Fam trips and NEED to share those experiences with your fan base. This can be in the shape of photos, videos or blog updates. It doesn’t really matter. Either way, tell them what you liked, didn’t like, recommend and find amazing. If you do a good job, you may get a booking or two out of the experience.

14. Client stories

Ever get an email from a client who tells you how GREAT their trip was or wants to let you know about something funny that happened? If so, ask for their permission to share it with everyone. It acts as a testimonial for you and can be entertaining all at once.

15. Answers to common questions

If there are travel questions you get regularly, use the opportunity to share the answer with a wider audience. It may even prompt your fan base to ask you more questions and start engaging. Again…show everyone that you know your stuff and the bookings will follow!

16. Opinions

If something is happening in the travel community and you have an opinion to share, you can use your social channel to do so.  However, I would caution you to think twice about being excessively controversial or political as it may turn some people away. Some controversy is ok, but too much can be hard to handle for some people.

17. Travel tips

These can be quick tips or longer blog posts about your recommendations. Just like the fun facts, top 10 lists, and other ideas listed here, they help position you are the expert that your are while being useful.

18. Behind-the-scenes updates

If your teams is planning an event or preparing something big, there is always interest in seeing you have fun behind-the-scenes.  Be creative here with photos, videos, stories and staff comments.

19. Favourite quotes

Inspiring travel quotes are fairly easy to find (Google to the rescue!) and quick to post. If you are out of inspiration for the day, a quick quote can keep the engagement going with minimal effort.

20. Staff picks

Get your whole team involved in recommending hotels, resorts, cruises, activities or whatever else you can think of. This can be really fun for everyone and helps showcase your agency as a whole.

21. Interviews

Think written or video interviews with people on your team, a destination representative, hotel partner, etc.

22. Funny Stories

Whether it’s a cartoon, a funny video, an anecdote or the joke of the week, humor always goes a long way!

23. Updates from the road

This is where you bring out your inner journalist.  If you have access to an internet connection or a smartphone while on the road travelling or attending events, you can provide live updates.  This works particularly well on Twitter or Facebook where updates can be quick and short. Blog posts take some thought, but you could still provide one update per day once you have a chance to slow down a bit in the evening.

24. Milestones

Did you just get a new specialist certification? Did your agency win an important award? Maybe you got featured in the local newspaper. It’s time to let everyone know so they can share in the joy and find out how fabulous you really are!

25. Travel deals

I saved this one for last because it seems like the most obvious choice, yet it’s not always the best one. Depending on your sales goals, you may not want to attract the bargain hunters looking for the best deal. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if deals are a good choice for you.

It’s not as hard as it may seem. Many of the ideas above are already available within your agency or on the web.  A simple Google search or using  Google Alerts  can help you stay in the loop and find interesting content quite easily and without gobbling up your precious time.

Now it’s your turn…

Have you had success with any of the ideas above? Or perhaps I’ve missed a few good ones that you’d like to share?

travel engagement post for facebook group

There are two types of Facebook groups: ones that feel like a digital party ( minus the awkward small talk ), and ones that are a neglected no man’s land.

If you’re trying to build the former (and you should be!), it’s essential to keep group members engaged—the more engaged your Facebook group is, the faster it will grow.

One way to keep people interacting in your group is to create posts and prompts that encourage engagement.

We’ve put together a list of Facebook group engagement posts so you never run out of ideas!

Note: through the article we’ll refer to these as “Facebook group posts”, however these post ideas can work for both Facebook groups and Facebook pages.

Facebook engagement post ideas using videos

Videos make excellent Facebook group engagement posts. Aside from bringing in tons of interaction, you can also target people who watch your videos with your Facebook ads , helping you further grow your business.

Plus,  making videos on Facebook  is easy with the right tools ( we’ll show you which tools to use throughout ).

Here are the best types of engagement posts, games, and ideas using videos.

1. Host a trivia game

Why it’s effective: trivia draws people in and provides a dopamine rush to those who play , making participants more likely to stay engaged throughout the game.

Looking for Facebook engagement games to interact with your audience? Look no further than trivia!

If you’ve ever attended a trivia party, you know how fun—and competitive—they are. Everyone eagerly answers question after question, waiting to tally up their scores at the end of the game.

Although Facebook doesn’t have a built-in trivia option, we’ve come up with a simple way to host trivia game to boost engagement in your group: a trivia video.

Here’s a short example to give you a better idea:

I used Moovly to create an animated hands trivia game

Here’s how to make your own trivia video in under 30 minutes. First, sign up for a free Moovly account !  Click on Create project in your dashboard.

You have three different options to create your video. I chose Start from scratch to make my above trivia video.

After choosing your option, Moovly will open our intuitive drag-and-drop video editor where you can search for different stock photos, videos, animations, graphics, sounds, and more to add to your trivia video.

Easily drag-and-drop any content from Moovly’s library onto your video editor, customize its duration, add your effects, and more!

2. Create a welcome video for new members

Why it’s effective : it sets the tone in your group and encourages members to interact with content right away.

If you want people engaging with your Facebook posts, get them interacting with content the moment they join your group. Otherwise, they might forget about it and never engage.

To encourage participation with new members, create a welcome video for them.

Talk about:

  • Who you are
  • What they get by being in your group
  • How your group will help them
  • Any group rules you have

In Jessi Romero’s welcome video inside her Facebook group for entrepreneurs with ADHD , she introduces herself and the reason behind her group.

Use Moovly to create your welcome video. You can create a video in various styles including whiteboard, footage, animation, or a combination of any style. You can also record yourself within Moovly or use our footage library to find media for your video.

Here are some tips to drum up engagement with your welcome video:

  • Set your video as an announcement so new members can easily find it
  • Tag new members in a “welcome post”, directing them to your welcome video

Include something useful in the video—like an exclusive deal—and tease that in your welcome message, i.e., “new members: don’t forget to watch our welcome video for your special discount!”

3. Share testimonials

Why it’s effective: online reviews influence 93% of consumers . Use testimonial videos to increase sales, make money on Facebook , and build confidence in your brand without needing overly promotional posts.

If you sell a product, one of the necessary videos your business needs is a testimonial video.

Ask customers to send over their video testimonials and use Moovly to:

  • Add your logo in the corner of the video so viewers instantly know who the testimonial is for
  • Add a title screen with your branding (things like colors and typography)
  • Cut out any mistakes or unwanted footage
  • Stitch several testimonials together

GivingWay shared this testimonial in their Facebook group as a way to inspire their current group members:

4. Create tutorial-style videos

Why it’s effective: tutorials are engaging, and you can sneak your product in without the video feeling like an ad.

Although  Facebook ads  are incredibly effective, people want to learn about products in different ways besides ads.

One of those ways is through tutorials.

Teach your group how to do something related to your niche, and if possible, include your product in the tutorial.

5. Host a course/coaching session

Why it’s effective: people will tune in for several days, giving this type of content a long lifespan.

Similar to tutorials, courses are another popular Facebook engagement post idea you can use to liven up your group. The difference, however, is that tutorials are usually brief one-time videos, whereas courses are multiple videos. With courses, schedule the content over several days to keep people engaged longer.

In the Self publishing made simple community Facebook group , members can take a beginner’s self publishing course, complete with prompts, worksheets, and video trainings.

Use Moovly to make your video course. You can record yourself, your screen, add text, and subtitles to teach your group something new!

6. Share behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage

Why it’s effective: BTS gives your business the human touch consumers crave.

81% of consumers need to trust a brand to buy from them. If you’re looking for a way to increase engagement and build trust with your brand, create behind-the-scenes (BTS) posts for your Facebook group. BTS feels exclusive and people love tuning in to get a peak behind the curtain.

You can start by asking your group which areas of your business they’d like to see BTS content. Once you have an idea what your group members, want, take a day filming content.

After gathering video footage, use Moovly to trim, splice, and edit your BTS videos. Catherine Howell owns the Facebook Ad Hacks group —a group of nearly 150,000 entrepreneurs. Her Facebook post offers a BTS look into a paid summit.

Why it’s effective: live videos get priority in Facebook feeds , granting you greater reach.

Your options are endless with Facebook Live: behind-the-scenes, tutorials, interviews, courses, workshops, and more.

After going Live, download your live videos and repurpose them into other types of content.

Facebook engagement post ideas using graphics and text

8. ask simple questions.

While videos make excellent engagement post ideas, we recommend posting a mix of content to your group.

Graphics and text are easy types of Facebook posts to generate buzz within your community.

Just make sure your questions are simple enough that people don’t need to think too hard to answer!

9. Post polls

Why it’s effective : polls require little effort from members and yield high interaction.

Polls increase engagement in your Facebook group and help you get to know your audience.

Use polls for fun questions—like the one above asking if their dog likes to cuddle—or get feedback about new products, i.e., “ which colors should our next product be? ”

10. Host a Q&A

Why it’s effective: you get the chance to speak directly with your audience, build a relationship, and find out their struggles.

Another amazing Facebook group post idea where you can learn about your audience is to host a Q&A.

Not only will Q&As let you establish your authority on your group’s topic, it also lets you have two-way conversation with your audience where you can find out what questions they have and what problems they face.

Use this information to create future content that will drive even more engagement.

Facebook has a built-in Q&A feature so setting up your Q&A session is simple.

To access the Q&A, make a post and click the ellipses:

To increase engagement for your Q&A, plan a time and let members know about your Q&A in advance, just as the Women in Marketing Facebook group has.

11. Host a GIF challenge

Why it’s effective: GIFs let people communicate their ideas in a fun and creative way.

One of the easiest Facebook group engagement posts is the GIF challenge. GIFs—animated images—let users express their personality.

The easiest way to host a GIF challenge? Ask users a question, but tell them they can only reply using GIFs.

12. Hold a contest or giveaway

Why it’s effective: it gamifies the social media experience.

Contests have a 3.73% higher conversion rate compared to other calls-to-action, making this— statistically — one of the best Facebook group engagement posts!

A Facebook post announcing a giveaway.

If you aren’t sure what to give away, create a poll and ask your audience to choose between a few items, using the top voted item as your prize.

13. Create and share graphics

Why it’s effective: graphics grab attention the news feed and are harder to ignore compared to plain text posts.

You don’t need fancy design software or skills to create eye-catching graphics. Use free software like Canva to make:

  • Fill in the blank posts
  • “This or that” posts
  • Quotes that will resonate with your audience

The below this or that post asks group members to comment their answers.

14. Create files with your top content

Why it’s effective: repurposing your best content into different files lets new members enjoy it for years to come.

After going through our list of best Facebook group engagement posts you’re going to have plenty of amazing content for your group.

But because the lifespan of a Facebook post is roughly five hours , you need a way to extend its life.

Get the most out of them by uploading your highest-performing posts to different files in your group. New members can enjoy these posts for months—and years—to come!

50+ Travel Questions That Will Increase Engagement on Instagram Stories

travel engagement post for facebook group

It is no secret that the Stories feature on Instagram can really drive your engagement. Not only that, but it allows you to get to know your followers better and what type of content they respond to.

The Questions sticker on Stories is my go-to to interact with followers, and I love to ask engaging questions about my favorite subject…TRAVEL! Within 24-hours of posting a travel question, I start reposting responses, tagging the account that answered. In turn, the follower I tagged may acknowledge the repost with a heart, a thank you, or even repost the answer on their stories, usually tagging my account as well.

Occasionally, a follower will send a direct message saying how much they enjoy answering the questions I ask and sometimes even state so in their own story repost of their answer. Since this is a popular way to interact and make people think about their own travels, I figured I would compile a list of my highest-performing questions that you can use!

Here is my top 50 travel questions list for you to use:.

1. What is the most memorable road trip you’ve been on?

Instagram Stories Question

2. Do you have a dream road trip you would like to do? If so, where?

3. What road trip snacks do you love to bring/buy?

50. Respond with a travel-related emoji & I will repost a photo from your feed.

(This one is my absolute favorite and I use it often. Why? Well, everyone wants to get their account seen, gain more followers and increase engagement on Instagram. I have had followers message me to say thanks and that they received several more followers because I shared one of their photos. It is a win-win!)

Instagram Stories Question

Bonus: Polls!

Using the poll sticker is another fun way to help drive engagement, and they are quick and easy for people to scroll through your Stories and answer as there are only two choices.

Here are a few high-engagement travel-related polls I have used in my own stories with the “This or That” theme:

  • Solo Travel vs. Group Travel
  • Travel by Car vs Travel by Plane
  • London vs. Paris
  • Beach vs. Mountains
  • Adventure Trip vs. Relaxing Trip
  • Plan It vs. Wing It
  • Sightseeing vs. Shopping
  • Tourist Spots vs. Hidden Gems
  • Airbnb vs. Hotel
  • Local Street Food vs. Fancy Restaurant

30 Facebook™️ Group Engagement Posts That will Increase Interaction

Content creation | facebook | online communities.

Are you looking to increase interaction in your Facebook™️ Group? This article offers 30 posts designed to increase engagement in your group WITHOUT useless clickbait tactics. No posts about brussels sprouts or cilantro — promise!

Whether you have a free group or a paid group, the fun of being a community leader is in the conversations that take place. But you can’t lead if nobody is following. And if you’re the only one posting or commenting in your group, it’s like trying to play catch all by yourself.

The very definition of a community is connection. Connection between members and their leader (you). Connection between members and the content (what you talk about). And connection between members and EACH OTHER. Yeah, we’re yelling … because member-to-member connection is most important.

The Difference Between Engagement and Connection

When it comes to Facebook™️ groups and online communities, you hear a lot of talk about engagement: engagement strategies, engagement posts, engagement rates, engagement tactics … argh ! You get the idea.

Tracking, measuring, and analyzing engagement is important. When our online community management agency, Team Kubo, works with clients on strategy or management, we collect and report engagement data each month. But engagement rate reports don’t tell the whole story in a Facebook™️ Group.

Your group engagement rate is the measurement of active group members divided by the number of total group members. If you have a group with 1,000 members, 300 of whom are active each month, your group engagement rate is 30 percent.

Experts talk a lot about engagement rate because it’s a concrete metric that you can track over time, but not all engagement is good engagement. An engagement spike might come as a result of several new members joining your group in a single day, or it might come as a result of conflict in your group. Because data is neutral, it can’t tell the difference between what’s good and what’s bad. It only measures what is.

Connection, on the other hand, is always positive. Connection is what makes communities thrive. Where engagement is all about action, connection is a combination of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and actions. It’s nuanced, which is why it’s harder to track and measure.

It’s worth figuring out how to measure connection in your group, so you can track it over time. An easy way to measure connection is by surveying your members. Depending on the focus of your group, asking questions about how many friends they’ve made in the group or how many group members they consider to be offline friends might help you to tell how connected members feel to each other.

30 Engagement Post Ideas to Increase Interaction in Your Facebook™️ Group

Now you know connection means more than engagement for engagement’s sake. So what can you do to increase connection among members while also keeping those engagement rates in the ideal range of 40 percent or higher?

We’ve gathered 30 Facebook™️ Group engagement post ideas designed to increase connection among your members while also driving action that can be tracked, measured, and analyzed.

The posts are organized into five major categories known to drive engagement and interaction in online communities:

  • Conversation Starters
  • Icebreakers
  • Meet-and-Greet

With six posts in each category, you can mix and match them to suit your industry or niche, and the unique needs of your group. They are general enough to apply to your group’s focus while being specific enough to trigger action among your members. As with any post template or prompt, keep in mind that these are guidelines, not laws. You know your community best. Tweak these post ideas to fit your group, its purpose, and your members.

Conversation starter to increase Facebook Group Post Engagement

Category 1: Conversation Starters

The easiest type of engagement post in a Facebook™️ Group is the conversation starter. Like the name implies, the purpose of this type of post is to get members talking — talking to each other and talking to you.

When thinking up conversation starters, it’s important to keep in mind that the intention here is for members to participate in the conversation by leaving a comment. Open-ended questions foster higher quality conversations compared to yes-or-no questions, but they also take more time and energy to answer. You might find fewer responses to some of your questions if they are deeper, but that’s not a bad thing if the comments you do get come from your ideal members or provide valuable perspective.

As the community leader, your job is to facilitate the conversation happening in the comments by responding to them in a meaningful way. You can leave the conversation at the surface level or bring it deeper with those participating. It’s all up to you.

Reliable conversation starters to get members talking

1. what are you working on this week, 2. what are you reading, 3. what’s for dinner tonight/this week, 4. what podcasts are your favorites, 5. show us a picture of the best part of your day., 6. what’s the best advice you’ve ever received about [group topic] , category 2: polls.

Poll asking people what type of planner they prefer

You can make group polls as serious or lighthearted as you wish. You can create fun question games for your Facebook™️ groups, conduct market research, or use polls to help members get to know each other better.

Facebook™️’s polling feature makes creating polls in your groups easy. You don’t need to pick a photo or create a graphic.

Create a poll in your Facebook™️ in 4 easy steps

1. select the “poll” content type when you create your post., 2. choose your response options., 3. customize your settings to indicate whether you want to allow respondents to select multiple options or add their own., 4. click “post” and you’re all set..

By the way, you don’t have to stick to boring ol’ text polls. Facebook™️ lets you spice things up and stop mindless scrolling in its tracks by adding images and GIFs to your polls. Use these options to get creative, show off your brand personality, and encourage engagement.

Poll ideas to engage members of your groups

1. where do you spend time online, 2. what is your favorite way to consume online content, 3. a great morning starts with ________________., 4. do you regret your decision to [insert topic] , 5. how did you discover this group, 6. what do you love/like most about [insert topic] .

Oh, and a word of warning… The success of Facebook™️ polls depends entirely on two things: 1) asking the right questions and 2) not overwhelming members with too many answer options. Your questions should be specific enough to be easy for members to understand and answer quickly. More than five answer options will reduce your response rate. Choose both your questions and answers wisely.

Category 3: Icebreakers

Icebreakers aren’t for everyone. At a live, in-person event, icebreaker time is when you see me running to the restroom or out to the parking lot to retrieve something I fake forgot in my car.

Small talk, surface-level conversation, and trading elevator pitches grate on the nerves of introverts and analytical personalities.

But when it comes to online community dynamics — especially in Facebook™️ groups — they are critical to establish the emotional safety and security required for members to connect with each other. Seth Godin famously describes culture as the manifestation of “people like us do things like this.” Icebreakers serve to illustrate that definition of culture by helping your members see how they fit into the group and confirm they belong there.

Icebreakers to increase engagement

1. who are the pet parents here show us a picture of your furbabies., 2. what part of the world do you call home, 3. what tv shows are you binge-watching right now, 4. what podcasts are you loving, 5. what books have you read recently, 6. favorite movie of all time.

By their very nature, icebreakers are surface-level conversation starters. They allow people to tiptoe into the group by answering a question without revealing too much about themselves or feeling too vulnerable. Don’t discount their value in your group content strategy. Consider icebreakers to be the first step to building lasting trust among members of your group.

Category 4: Meet-and-Greet

Facebook™️ groups allow people to connect over shared interests, experiences, or desires. Drawing from in-person examples for comparison, they are the online equivalent of a large-scale conference’s breakout sessions, a megachurch’s small groups, or a large organization’s affinity groups.

Even groups as large as Instant Pot® Community with more than 3 million members feel small compared to the billions of people who are active on Facebook™️ every day. And yet, no matter the size of your group, it takes intentional effort to get and keep members engaged.

One way to increase activity in your group is by taking responsibility for facilitating connection between members. Remember, true community comes from members connecting with each other as much as they connect with you and the content you produce.

The most successful way to facilitate these connections is by offering networking or meet-and-greet opportunities for members and yet. However, we rarely see group leaders use this tactic to drive engagement. That means you can set your group AND yourself apart by making meet and greet posts a regular part of your content strategy.

Like any engagement tactic, a little goes a long way . Offering meet-and-greet opportunities weekly is the max frequency in most groups to motivate members to connect with each other in ways that make sense. More often than that and you run the risk of the posts being ignored or viewed as noise in the group.

Meet-and-greet posts that add value

1. hiring looking for work post #hiring opportunities below. if you’re open to work, comment on the opportunities that interest you., 2. where are my [insert tool or service] experts, 3. calling all [insert topic] veterans. what one piece of advice would you give beginners, 4. what has been your costliest mistake in [insert topic] so far, 5. when it comes to [insert goal or objective] , what tool or service can you not live without, 6. meet your neighbors post your location to see whether you have any [insert community name] friends nearby., category 5: trends.

One way to make a Facebook™️ Group indispensable to your members is to become known as the go-to source of current and credible information related to trends in your topic or industry.

You don’t have to be the first to break the news. It’s often better if you aren’t the first to share about a trend. You can afford to wait until you have a sense of the trend’s potential and effects on your industry or niche. What members will value most is your take on a trend that’s relevant and customized to their specific needs.

In our free Facebook™️ Group for community leaders and professional community managers, for instance, I am rarely the first to announce a new community platform or change to the Facebook™️ platform. I am, however, the first to provide context to Facebook™️ updates or emerging platforms under the lens of what matters most to people who manage online communities. Our members know that, when the Internet is up in arms over a glitch in the Metaverse, they can count on me to tell them whether the sky is actually falling and what to do about it.

Trend posts to drive engagement

1. three [insert industry] trends to avoid and why., 2. do you hate [insert trend] here’s what to do instead, 3. what do you think about [insert trend] love it or hate it, 4. want results like [insert celebrity or influencer] try this hack, 5. trend alert: [insert trend] how are you applying it to what you do, 6. have you noticed [insert trend] here’s what we’re doing about it..

How to Use These Facebook™️ Group Engagement Posts

If you want to increase engagement in your Facebook™️ Group, these posts will give you the boost you need. However, you need to use them wisely.

The key to driving true connection and bolstering interaction in your group is what you do with reactions and comments. Use the comments for conversations by asking deeper questions, connecting members to each other, and facilitating the development of real relationships within the group.

Pay attention to what works and what doesn’t. And use that knowledge to inform what you post in the group moving forward. Your group members might love polls but not icebreakers. It might take trial and error to figure out which conversation starters are more interactive than others. You’ll learn a lot about your community in the process if you’re open to learning and applying the knowledge you gain to your content strategy.

Which interactive post ideas will you use to grow engagement in your online community?

75 Engaging Facebook Groups for Travel Bloggers and Instagrammers

75 Engaging Facebook Groups for Travel Bloggers and Instagrammers

“Wait a second – I thought this was supposed to be a travel blog!”

You’re right. Don’t worry, you haven’t mistakenly stumbled onto some “How to Be A Blogger” series. My blog is still focused on travel, and I will be the first to admit that I don’t have all the answers to every burning blog-related question in the world. However, as I’ve become more and more engaged in the blogging and Instagram communities over the past year, I have found incredible value in connecting with others in the same space on Facebook. I’ve learned so much, discovered invaluable resources, and made so many new connections (some I’d even consider close friends now)! I know that I would have been so grateful to find a blog post like this one when I was first starting out, which is why I’m hoping I can pass along some of the knowledge and resources I’ve gained to help out any travel blogging newbies in the same situation!

For 15 practical tips for new bloggers from some awesome blogging pros, click here!

Why join a Facebook group?

If you’re reading this post, chances are that you already know what Facebook engagement groups are and you’re on the hunt for some good ones to check out. However, if you’re new to this whole thing, here’s a quick rundown: Facebook groups are an incredible resource for you if you’re looking to connect with other travel bloggers (or just bloggers in general), looking for ways to promote and grow your blog readership, boost your social media, or build your business, whatever your goals may be. (There are also groups for everything from Amazon re-selling to Whole30, but I digress.)

If you’re looking for more tips on Instagram growth, I’ve got ya covered.

The following is a list of 75 (yeah, you read that right!) awesome Facebook groups that will help you do all of the above and more. Rather than explain what each of them focus on, I encourage you to click through and read the description for any groups below that interest you. Each group generally has a very detailed description section on the right-hand sidebar of their group page which you should read through before clicking “Join Group” to ensure that it’s the right fit for you and your needs!

A word to the wise…

There are a LOT of Facebook groups out there. Some are great, some are terrible, and many are just downright mediocre. I’m hoping that this list will help take the guesswork out of this process for you (since I’ve been in a lot of these groups for a year or more and am very familiar with how they operate, who moderates them, and what benefits they provide). None of them are perfect, but I think there is value to be found in each of them, so I recommend trying a few of them out! The more active you are, the more results you’ll see reflected in your social media and blog life.

By no means do you need to join ALL of these groups in order to see results and make the connections you’re looking for! I recommend starting small and picking 2-5 groups to join in order to get familiar with how they operate and then go from there. Each group has a slightly different structure, different moderators and rules, and different schedules. Take the time to find the one(s) that are right for you.

Psssst…a few of my favorite groups are towards the top of this list, if you’re curious.

Without further ado, let’s get on to this massive list!

Woohoo! You made it through!

I can’t explain (without sounding super sappy) how much support, expertise and motivation I’ve gained access to since joining the groups that I’m in on Facebook. There are some seriously talented, kind, helpful humans out there in the world, and being a part of unique, niche communities like these truly do give you a different perspective on whatever you’re trying to do – be it travel blogging, photography, writing, activism, supporting your neighborhood or town…the list goes on and on!

It may seem intimidating at first, because you don’t know the lingo and feel like the new kid on the block, but I guarantee you that if you ask questions and engage with the rest of the group, people will help you out and take you under their wing. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and ask for help or work with others.

A few helpful tips I wish I’d known before joining groups:

  • After you join a thread, click “Save Post” in order to keep track of which threads you need to follow up on or complete. It is nearly impossible to do so otherwise, and you’ll save yourself a lot of time and headaches by saving posts this way. Pro tip: make sure you “Unsave Post” when you’re done completing a certain thread so you don’t confuse yourself. See example below.
  • Don’t join threads with time-sensitive deadlines (i.e. must complete within 24-48 hours) when you know you’ll be busy or without wifi. These groups are serious about fair participation, and if you think you can just drop a link and sneak off, you’re going to get yourself banned from a bunch of groups quickly. It’s a fair system, so play nice and do your part to reciprocate.
  • There are groups for just about every niche or topic you can possibly think of. Facebook is a fantastic resource and way to find like-minded people, no matter what your interest or business goal is!
  • Have your blog set up before you start joining groups. Most blogging groups require you to have an active blog URL for them to check out before they’ll allow you into the group, so trying to join groups with a fake URL or no URL at all likely won’t get you into groups like these.
  • Be kind and offer support – go above and beyond! Make connections with other bloggers and Instagrammers. It’s absolutely invaluable. You never know when you might need each other or want to collaborate on projects in the future!
  • Ask questions and be curious. For the most part, people in these groups are incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions or help you out. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice.
  • Above all, have FUN and build genuine community using these groups! I have made some incredible  friends through Facebook groups (I’ve even met up with some of them in person!), and value these connections deeply. Engagement groups are not simply endless, hollow “like for like” posts – there are so many authentic, supportive people trying to make connections, learn, and build community. Find the groups that are right for you, leave the ones that don’t feel valuable behind, and enjoy the process of getting to know other people in the same space as you!

And that’s all folks!

If you have any additional questions about joining or participating in Facebook groups, I’d be happy to answer them – feel free to ask them in a comment below, reach out on Twitter or message me on Facebook for quick responses.

Also, if you found this post helpful, I’d love it if you’d share on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter (there are some handy-dandy share buttons on the left). I want to spread this around and help as many people as possible since I know how valuable these types of resources can be!

I just started to manage a fanpage and it really helps me. Thank a lot for sharing

I’m so happy to hear it was helpful Peter!

I love your site and this post! I swear this is the cutest site I have seen ever!

This is one of the most gorgeous sites I have seen, I absolutely love it and this post!!

Wow! What a great list!! The save post is a life safer! 🙂

I hope you found some great new groups to join Danielle! Thanks for reading 🙂

Wow! This has a ton of groups I had never heard of. Thank you for sharing.

There are seriously SO many awesome groups out there, I was shocked when I first started joining how many others popped up! Thanks for reading, Bailey!

I love it that you’ve listed my favourite group as Number 1 on your list. It was the first such group I joined, and the one I still turn to first when I have time. I wish I had more time; any one of these groups will provide a feast of travel posts, and a variety of ways to approach the topic.

Essential for the budding blogger to join one or two of these groups, just to find a niche – preferably one that hasn’t been done to death. It’s all very well to copy good ideas, but a successful travel blogger will have their own distinctive “voice”, and readers will return time and again to see what’s new.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Pete! I absolutely love that group too – many motivated, talented, supportive people in there. I wish I had more time to devote to groups and growing too! I completely agree with you – so important for bloggers to find their own voice instead of simply copying others’ content. Best to be original!

This was great, very thought out and well written! This was very helpful information. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad to hear that Chelsey! Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to read 🙂

Guaranteed to increase Facebook engagement immediately if used with love and passion.🙂

Quick Note: It took me several days of planning and effort to complete this article. I’ve handpicked all the best strategies that boost Facebook group engagement, keeping in mind the changing algorithm. So, you can be assured of the results. Enjoy!

I have spent the last 5 years of my life building a community of moms which is now 1.5 million strong with Facebook group engagement rate as high as 1300% .

And now, I’m on a mission to help community leaders scale and sustain their communities.:)

I started a Facebook group with the name Growth and Monetisation for Facebook Group Admins (engagement 500% ) where community admins like you actively discuss Facebook engagement ideas, and so much more.

Hence, from all of this experience, I have collated the 25 best Facebook group engagement ideas that will help you generate massive value-based engagement in a short span of time.

If you care to read this content till the end, you will learn:

  • About the tactics that generate upto 500% Facebook group engagement and are really easy to execute
  • About some unique and never heard before tactics (the ones we implemented while growing Baby Destination)
  • About tactics that are low-hanging yet missed by most group owners (and the best way to use them)

Most importantly, once you go through them all, you won’t have to look any further!🙂

Before diving into them, I’d like to shed light on some important things to consider.

3 Things to keep in mind when forming a Facebook group strategy

1. Focus on providing value

Yes, the objective is to increase Facebook engagement, but your goal should be to provide value first.

When you provide value to your group members, they will feel a sense of belonging, and would come back to your community. They might also even share about it with their friends and family, helping it grow.

There’s nothing sweeter than members thanking you for making a difference in their lives.🙂

2. Listen to your Facebook group members

Because that’s where you get the most valuable insights from.

Understand what interests your members and what problems they are facing, and formulate your Facebook group content strategy around it.

When members will get solutions to their problems, or they get to participate in discussions that entice them, they’d definitely engage.

3. Consistency is the key

Be consistent in your efforts.

Initially, you will have to start conversations to get members to participate. It’s only after a while that members feel comfortable and start posting in the community.

Tag all new members in the welcome post

Earlier, when I or the other admins of my group did not call out people individually in the welcome post, most of them either missed it or simply skipped through it.

But, I was surprised to see the group engagement on the same welcome posts after we started tagging members.

Facebook Group Engagement by welcoming new members

As we greeted them individually, they felt like a part of the group from day one. Have a look at the comments below.

Facebook Group Engagement Tactics that Works

So, we’ve made it a practice to always tag members now.

Facebook automatically tags all the new joiners when you hit the ‘Write Welcome Post’ option under the ‘Members’ tab.

Facebook Group Engagement tricks 2021

Now, all that’s left is to just personalize the post.

You’ve already seen in the images above how we do it in our community admins group. You can do it by asking members to tell where they’re from, what their profession, hobby is, etc.

A majority of the admins I’ve spoken to, agree that doing so makes newcomers feel valued and included.

So, make sure you’re doing it too if you want to engage your group members.

Use Facebook Live Videos

While growing our parenting communities, we realised that people engage with live videos a lot.

In one of my groups, Make up, skin, and hair care tips , we conducted an ‘Ask The Expert’ live video session. (Just look at the engagement… 741 reactions and 1300 comments !)

host live session- Facebook group live ideas

During this AMA live session, women’s concerns were not only addressed by the skin expert but also by co-members. And, this facilitates:

  • Co-creation, i.e. members engaging with each other
  • Intermixing of newcomers and existing members
  • Social relatedness (the need to be socially accepted, cared for, and cared by others)

So, I’d suggest you go live today!

You can either host a Q&A session (like we did) or teach your members to do something, talk about a product, share a personal story, or anything alike.

Feel free to check out this blog where we have shared 15 unique Facebook live ideas and also explained how you can go live in your Facebook group.👇🏻

How to go live in a Facebook group? + Best Facebook live ideas to boost engagement

When Praveen Ganesh, a leading community entrepreneur unleashed the potential of Facebook Live videos in one of his vernacular Facebook groups, the engagement was mind blowing! (2.4K reactions, 3.1K comments, 850 shares, and 249K views)

The video is of one of his clients who’s a Reiki healer. She went live to talk about the classes she conducts.

Live videos facebook group engagement tips praveen ganesh

FACT: Now, 2 people can go live together in a Facebook group. All you need to do is just update the Facebook application on your mobile!

Lastly, if you’re wondering – ‘How to get people to join your live?’, here are a few tips you can count on:

  • Create an announcement post regarding your live session and create a buzz around it several times before the day of the session
  • The topic of the live session must be according to your members’ requirements
  • You can even create an event for your live session after which you can invite all members individually and ensure maximum participation
  • During the session, ask questions from the members and encourage them to comment and share their concerns if any
  • You can also create guides of your live sessions around different topics and can direct members to it for specific queries

I’ll tell you about a unique approach that increased the engagement of Baby Destination’s Facebook page from a couple of hundreds to 20,000 on a single post. I have been using this technique secretly for the last 18 months to keep our communities super engaged.

By far, this is one of the best Facebook group engagement games to swear by.

We conduct ‘Live Quiz’ (call it another version of KBC), which is a pre-recorded video with a set of questions and answers and a timer.

Grow Your Facebook Group With a Live Quiz

Let me tell you the scientific reason why the LIVE Quiz format worked so well for boosting engagement rate.

  • It combines live video with gamification that triggers emotions like happiness, intrigue, and excitement. That’s because our brain releases ‘dopamine’ or a feel-good drug whenever we achieve something positive.
  • It beats the Facebook algorithm as with every comment that’s posted, the reach of your post increases all the more.
  • Winner is rewarded the title of ‘Super Mom’ which is a huge recognition and again, a positive user experience. It is these positive user experiences that lead to better engagement.

If you choose to implement it in your Facebook group (which I’d definitely recommend), you can offer gifts to the winners along with recognition. This will take the game up a notch and motivate members even more.

Just mention the prize when you announce the game and your group members will be enticed to participate!

Similarly, you can come up with other fun games for your Facebook groups, and get started already!

Run contests that include giveaways

During my conversation with some community admins, I came across a few unique and amazing contest ideas that they curated which captivated their group members like anything!

I believe contests are one of the best ways to create excitement in an already engaged community. Hence, I’ve shared a few ideas with you below. 🙂

Reetika, the admin of Weight loss post pregnancy , (one of the Facebook groups of Baby Destination) hosts weekly/monthly live fitness challenges wherein members go live and perform the exercises.

Contest - Amazing Facebook Group Engagement Idea

Towards the end, she evaluates the performance of each participant and gives them feedback. Upon completion of the challenge, she even shares certificates with the top performers.

This motivates the members immensely and they enjoy these benefits:

– The exercises help them stay fit – the primary reason they joined the group – The certification and calling out makes them feel special and increases their enthusiasm for the upcoming challenges and motivates them to perform even better.

Conduct polls

When I was not sure of what content my members wanted to see, I decided to ask them directly.

In the Facebook group, Kids Nutrition and Recipes , I asked the moderator to conduct this poll sometime back to understand mommies of which age group of babies are a part of the group.

facebook group engagement rate by polls

Looking at the engagement. i.e. 1400 likes and 3100 comments , I would like to point out that polls are one of the best Facebook group engagement posts. No matter a new member or an existing one, everyone is likely to participate as polling requires less (or almost no) effort.

After gathering this data, we shared healthy food recipes for babies of different age groups. Here is one example.

The engagement on the above post (306 reactions and 89 comments) is pretty amazing because we provided members with information that’s valuable to them. So, go ahead, implement this tactic in your FB group and see your group engagement skyrocket!

Facebook group engagement posts – Only use the formats that work

Let’s admit it – not all post types (plain text, image, and video) work in our community.

It’s only important to find out which post format works the best in your community and double down your efforts on the winning content.

I utilised all my learnings from Baby Destination and put them together to create a Facebook analytics tool, namely Convosight , to solve the problems I faced while scaling my parenting communities.

The tool helped me figure out that my photos and plain text posts (which were just 20% of my content strategy) attracted 80% members. While my video posts (which were 80% of my content strategy) managed to receive around 20% engagement only.

Today, 45000+ Facebook group admins in over 75 countries are using Convosight to understand their group health, see which post types are performing well, and more, and boost their Facebook group engagement.

With its Post Reshare feature, they can easily look for the best performing content format of their group.  Not only this, they are also able to track the activity score (total reactions and comments) on every post and can reshare the top performing content.

Post at the most engaging times

We conducted an experiment in the FB group – Kids Nutrition and Recipes , to see how well this works.

We took 3 posts and posted them at different times, two at the suggested times which are the most engaging times while the other one, at some random time.

Here’s the difference in the engagement.

Post at Good time for better engagement

The second and third posts that were scheduled at the suggested times which was the most engaging time as per group activity got 56% and 237% higher than average engagement respectively. However, the first post that was not posted at the suggested time had 2% lower than average engagement.

For all those who’re thinking about the image, this is a screen of Convosight’s dashboard. The platform provides detailed information on the best times to post for your community and its Post Analytics feature compares how the post did in comparison to the other posts.

Have a look at the post below. An admin who used Convosight’s Post Scheduler and met the suggested times and keywords, saw a 91% increase in engagement of that post. And, she happily shares it in our Facebook group .

How to schedule Facebook group posts?

TIP: This one’s a low-hanging fruit, so I suggest you make the best of it. If you do, you’re half way through the question – ‘how to increase engagement on Facebook?’.

Create Facebook group posts on what your members are talking about

Now that you know the content format your audience loves to engage with, you need to focus on creating unique group posts that they will relate with.

And, a great way to do it is to tap into their conversations.

Convosight’s Conversation Trends feature analyses the conversations of your group members and provides a list of the trending keywords without revealing user identity that can be further used to form your content strategy.

As one of our Facebook group best practices, we use this feature in all our groups to create the most relevant content for our members. Here is an example from one of our parenting groups, Weight Loss post pregnancy.

Conversation Trends feature

Since we were able to track what our members were talking about, we then created posts around the same topic in our group. No wonder, this post received thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments!

How to come up with over 5 highly engaging content ideas in less than 5 minutes?

People obviously love it when they are appreciated for their achievements.

The feel-good factor is at an all time high. And they feel immensely proud of themselves which further motivates them.

Owing to this, we have admin success days in our group every Tuesday. Herein, we encourage members to share their accomplishments and acknowledge each others’ success.

The icing on the cake is that these have come to be one of the best engagement posts for Facebook groups like ours.

Admins love to share their successes and thank one another for their constant support.

If you have a Facebook group of business owners, this would work like a charm.

In our community of Facebook group admins, we have Collab Days every Friday. Members come forward, share their group links in the comments section of the post alongside mentioning the types of groups they’d like to collaborate with.

These are again one of the best engagement posts of our Facebook group.

The ultimate guide to collaborating with other Fb groups

A lot of admins are using their Facebook groups for marketing, helping members, and even earning through it.

Similarly, you can fix a day where you allow your Facebook group members to promote themselves or their businesses. Make sure to keep a check that they don’t go overboard and start promoting themselves unnecessarily.

Facebook group marketing – Collaborate with brands for purpose led campaigns

Where Facebook group members and brands both gain from each other.

In my opinion, the best way to run purpose led marketing campaigns in any community is by targeting members with a cause that makes a difference in their lives.

With that in mind, I have collaborated with numerous brands like Veet, Dettol, Wella, Nestle, Johnsons, and Abbott to name a few.

As part of a campaign with Wella, Anjali Singh, the admin of Makeup, skin, and hair care tips , went live with Gaurav Gupta, who’s a renowned expert. They addressed all prevailing myths around hair coloring and shared why salon hair coloring is the best for a hair makeover.

The engagement is pretty good. (242 reactions and 340 comments)

Now with this, a majority of the Facebook group members will be able to decide if they’d like to go ahead with hair coloring.

Sounds like a win-win for both brand and the community members, doesn’t it?

You too can collaborate with relevant brands for your community. Go through this article to understand how to find brands and reach out to them👇🏻

Use Badges to help members identify whom to talk to

While Facebook group badges aren’t new, in my opinion, they are definitely great as they:

  • Help your online tribe identify you (the group leaders basically)
  • Help you single out, recognise, and reward the top members for their outstanding contributions

From Admin and Moderators to Rising Star, Founding Member, Conversation Starter, Conversation Booster, Visual Storyteller, Link Curator, and even New Member, there are some really cool badges available.

As an admin, you can choose to enable the badges you want in your group via settings.

Have a look at the badges enabled in our Facebook group .

Repost the best engagement posts of your Facebook group

Let’s say you posted 100 posts in a month in your Facebook group and 5 out of those received crazy engagement. Now, when you repost any or all of those 5 posts that performed well in your group, your members will engage with it even more. Doing this, you are actually amplifying it on a huge scale!

That said, you probably would be thinking about the ways to do it.

Convosight helps you keep track of each and every post in your group. And, one of the admins used its Post Trends feature (that I talked about a few minutes back) to reshare the top performing post in the group. This one is an image post that all moms relate to. The engagement after resharing is really good! (380 reactions and 68 comments).

reshare post for better reach of posts on fb group

When I spoke to a few community admins as a part of my research for Convosight, I figured that most of them weren’t aware of the engagement metrics to track and measure success.

Which is why I’ve listed down the two most important metrics for you to check whether you’re headed in the right direction, and gauge the scope of improvement, if any.

engagement metrics to get facebook engagement

  • Engagement Rate

This one tells you how valuable your community is. Basically, greater the engagement rate of your community, higher is the value being created!

It refers to the average actions (posts + comments + reactions) done by a member per month in your Facebook group.

It is calculated as: Total posts, comments, and reactions divided by Total members

An engagement rate of 492% means that on an average, a member does 4.92 actions in your Facebook group in a month.

  • Activity Rate

This one tells you about the value you are creating with every post in your Facebook group. Greater the activity rate, the higher is the value being created!

It is the average number of comments and reactions received per post per month in your Facebook group.

It is calculated as total reactions and comments divided by total posts.

An activity rate of 35.5 means that on an average, a post gets 35.5 reactions and comments in your group.

NOTE: These are just 2 metrics out of various others that I rely on to measure the health of my communities. If you wish to know them all (with details), feel free to check out this blog👇🏻

Facebook Group Engagement Ideas for 2021

Reduce SPAM immediately

The fear of SPAM in Facebook groups is no less than a nightmare. Who knows this better than us community admins and entrepreneurs?

So, with Convosight, we decided… no more sleepless nights and constant monitoring.

Our engineering team devoted a tremendous amount of time and effort to build the Keyword Alerts feature that keeps all admins ahead of any spam.

The platform analyses the conversation of group members so it is able to pick the words you mark as spam for your group. And, when any of those are used, you instantly receive a notification. In fact, it even allows you to take action on a post then and there, from that very dashboard!

Reduce SPAM immediately

With Keyword Alerts, you can stay on top of almost everything that you care about. Check out this detailed blog to know everything about it including how it is different from Facebook’s Keyword Alerts.👇🏻

Keyword Alerts: Introducing the foolproof way to stop spam in your FB group

When your group is spam-free, you can focus on coming up with interesting ideas for your FB group and keeping your members engaged.🙌🏻

A few months back, Facebook introduced new post types for communities to make group discussions more engaging – Write a prompt and Ask me Anything.

They have been doing the rounds since the time they came into being.

The Ask Me Anything or Host a Q&A feature encourages admins to answer their group members queries/ address their concerns in a more interactive way.

Just go to your group settings and turn on the option of ‘Host a Q&A’.

Facebook’s latest group post ideas

Check out how Sapna Sengar, admin of Brain and Physical Development Activities for Kids , hosted a question and answer session on infant digestion.

q and a session for facebook group engagement

Members shared their concerns/queries with her, got solutions to their problems, and learnt from each others’ issues.

Write a Prompt feature, on the other hand, is my personal favourite as it drives discussion by encouraging members to share photos.

Depending on your group type and objective, you can ask members to share photos of anything like the last picture they clicked, the last meme they shared, and others such.

We used it in our Facebook group and asked members to share pictures of the different types of live sessions they’ve hosted in their groups.

start a prompt for quick facebook group engagement

It did not only make the group discussion interesting, but we were also able to gather insights, and members learnt about new live video ideas for Facebook groups.

As a bonus, we used this information in our blog and credited the respective admins, seeing which they were super happy.

Having trouble finding a new member of your group? If yes, then please read this blog to know the complete process:

How To See New Members In Facebook Group 2023?

Nothing’s more enticing than getting a freebie right after joining a community!

A freebie can be anything – ebook, invitation to a webinar, guide, etc.

Basically, something that is of immense value to your Facebook group members.

For instance, in our Facebook group , we share the following stuff with all new members in our welcome post that we do every Tuesday:

  • Link to Monetisation Masterclass, i.e, the workshop we conduct fortnightly to educate admins how they can earn from their FB groups
  • Link of our blogs – where we impart knowledge on Facebook group engagement, growth, and monetisation
  • Tell them about Convosight and why power admins love Convosight
  • Share with them how we at Convosight can help them connect with brands for purpose-led marketing campaigns, and help them earn

Offer Freebie for facebook engagement

This is also a great Facebook group strategy to drive members to your product.

We have made it a point to call out top contributors regularly in a “Thank You” post.

Check out the example from our parenting group, Kids Nutrition and Recipes.

recognise top contributors

Now, this gesture of acknowledgment makes members feel special and encourages them to engage in the group even more.

Besides, it is also one of the simplest Facebook group engagement post ideas.

Read this blog to understand the process of knowing the top contributors of your Facebook group :

How to Find Top Contributors on Facebook Group?

Use Facebook group rules to tell members what they can post

Laying down rules in your group provides clarity to members and a sense of direction as to what is expected of them in the group.

Rinku Shah, the admin of Fitness2Flash , in her group rules, clearly mentions:

  • The type of posts that are/are not expected
  • The number of hashtags that are allowed per post
  • The kind of behaviour that is not acceptable (like derogatory comments, or any sort of hate speech or bullying

Lastly, she even tells how listening to the suggestions and following the guidance of F2F trainers will help them in the long run.

fitness 2 flash rules engagement article

This way she has established boundaries and conveyed very humbly about everything one needs to follow if they wish to be a part of her community.

When you are adding rules to your Facebook group, I’d like you to please pay attention to the usage of words. You don’t want to sound rude or arrogant, so avoid using controlling words like ‘should’, ‘must’, ‘ought to’, ‘have to’, etc.

If you’d like to know more about rules including how to add rules to a Facebook group, best Facebook group rules examples, or need a Facebook group rules template to get started , refer to this ultimate guide.👇🏻

Everything you should know about Facebook group rules

For those of you who are wondering – ‘What is a pinned post on Facebook group?’:

It is the first post that appears in your group’s news feed. It means that when any new member or existing member opens your group, the pinned post on your Facebook group is what they will see first.

pinned post

Pinned posts in Facebook groups are now called ‘Announcements’.

If you’re wondering how to pin a post in your Facebook group, you can refer to this article for the step wise process. 👇🏻

How to create a pinned post on Facebook group?

In pinned posts, you can offer anything valuable like a cheat sheet, guide, assistance of some sort or anything alike.

I have always admired Fittr , now a massive 100 crore business which started as just a Facebook group in 2013. And, I really like how they’re using their Facebook group pinned post to offer value to the members.

pinned post to increase facebook group engagement

Their pinned post talks about group rules which further drives members to the Fittr app if they wish to avail a free diet and training plan. I mean, who would not want to try that!

They even provide an option to enrol with a coach and direct members to their website.

Besides, they have also provided an email address in case members require any additional support which is again a great way to connect with them over email.

Doing this:

  • They get a chance to connect with the members personally whenever anyone downloads the app, lands on the website, or contacts them via email and at the same time grow their audience.
  • They are able to gain more trust of the audience as they provide them immense value

Inspire (borderline provoke) your members to interact by tagging them in comments and posts

I remember me and my team doing this frequently in our Facebook group, Home remedies for babies and moms . In the post below, we asked moms to share one food they give their babies to boost their immunity and told them to tag one mom in their answer.

inspire users to posts

This way, we did not only create value for all the moms but at the same time generated Facebook group engagement.

You can clearly see how calling out members personally inspires them (or makes them feel kind of obligatory in a good way) to take part and interact in the group.

Create a core group of users who interact positively on every post so that engagement and thus its visibility is high

As per Facebook’s algorithm, the posts that manage to get a good number of likes and comments initially tend to work very well.

So, go ahead and form a group on any messenger service (like WhatsApp). We call this group an engagement pod!

Push all your posts there and ask your squad to jump right in and show the much needed love. Or even better, just share with them your content calendar so they know in advance when to act!

Create recurring posts with Facebook days of the week themes

This is a simple yet very effective way to increase engagement in Facebook groups. And also saves you the time and energy that goes into brainstorming unique content every now and then.

For instance, you have a ThrowbackThursday theme wherein you post an old picture of yours (with respect to your group topic or spirit) and encourage members to do the same. When you do that on a weekly basis, your post instantly becomes recognizable for the members and they already know what action to take.

Some tips that will come handy for creating successful recurring posts:

  • Fix 2-3 weekly posts that reflect the spirit of your community
  • Use the same background and format each week
  • You can pin that post to the top, in the announcements section

Here’s how Jyoti Agarawal, admin of Maa2Mom- Kandivali is using Facebook days of the week theme to create recurring posts that drive engagement in her community.

As part of Motivational Monday, Jyoti posted about a member of her group who’s also a social entrepreneur. She talks about how that woman has been a part of so many social events along with her other achievements to motivate all moms in the group.

Theme based posts for user engagement in fb groups

That is not all. She has other theme days too. Like WisdomWednesday and TalentThursday among others which has mentioned about in her Facebook group description too.

theme based posts in fb group

You can also use such Facebook group theme day ideas and inspire members to get more involved.

Host offline events

Such events are an amazing way to bring your members together, foster a connection amongst them, strengthen your group’s mission and convey it to the members in-person, and so much more.

You can either arrange a casual meet up at a coffee shop or organise an activity that provides value to your members.

Have a look at how Mohit Mahajan, Admin of a food group, Plates2Miles , connects with members personally by organising tasting tables, in collaboration with restaurants. The main aim of this event is to provide members an ultimate dining experience. And obviously bond with them.

High-Performing Facebook Group Engagement Tactics

After the event is concluded, members share their reviews in the group. Here’s one shared by a member after her first table tasting experience (which was memorable) at China Garden restaurant.

12 High-Performing Facebook Group Engagement Tactics for food groups

Until the Covid crisis, this was a regular event hosted by Mohit . If you like this too, you can do something along these lines once the pandemic is over.

If your group is relatively small, turning on group notifications is an amazing way to stay updated with the ongoing conversations and be a part of them.

When your members see you are so active in the group, they will be encouraged to participate more.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Click on the ‘Notifications’ button right below your group’s cover photo
  • Select ‘Highlights’

I’d suggest you choose ‘All posts’ only if your group is VERY SMALL. Or, if you don’t mind being bothered every 10 minutes! 😛

P.S. You can even ask your group members to turn on the notifications too!

turn on notifications

Parting Words

There’s one thing you must ALWAYS remember as a Community Builder :

Provide as much value as you can to your members. Rest everything will follow.

In all of the 25 Facebook group engagement strategies mentioned above, there’s not a single one that’s not packed with value.

The beauty of these Facebook group ideas is that no matter if you’ve just created a new FB group or have one from a long time, they will work like a charm.

And in no time, you’ll see your Facebook group engagement skyrocket!

P.S. Do let me know which of these Facebook group strategies worked the best for you. Or if you have any additional questions, please share them in the comments below. I’d love to take this conversation forward! 🙂

9 Ways For Travel Companies To Increase Engagement On Facebook

  • International Tour Operators
  • Group & Multi-Day travel
  • Social Media

Engagement on Facebook could mean any number of actions. It could be likes , shares, comments, check-ins, or tags. The reason you want to increase engagement on Facebook is that it helps to extend your organic reach.

Each time your audience engages with your post in any of the ways we've just mentioned, your visibility extends to their own network of friends. For your travel company, this means extra exposure at zero cost.

Engagement is also an indicator that your audience is interested in your brand. The interaction signals that they see your post or brand as one worthy of attention in the saturated online space.

Increase Engagement on Facebook With These 9 Tips

Facebook’s algorithm, which determines what people see on their newsfeed, places certain posts above others according to a number of determiners.

The short of it is, high-quality content shared by your friends that is likely to generate meaningful interactions will appear above any publisher posts. The focus is on a quality browsing experience based on a person’s likes, interests, and network.

What this means is your travel business will need to work harder to be seen organically (without paid advertising ) on the newsfeed of your followers. These nine tips will help you to increase engagement on Facebook, and up your organic visibility.

Get To Know Your Audience

Facebook insights provide useful information on who your audience is and how they engage with your material. Try out different content formats, for example, video layouts or 360-degree pictures, to see which people respond to the most.

By understanding what performs best on your page, you can customize your posts to get the most engagement out of them.

Your Content Should Add Value

Whether the value is added by teaching, inspiring, informing, or entertaining your audience, your content needs to improve their lives in some way.

Make sure it is varied and interesting. If your travel company offers group bicycle tours in Thailand, then there is no need to solely post content on those subjects. Include more about travel in Thailand or other famous bike tours around the world for example.

One look at See Australia's profile and you know why they have such a large following. Despite beautiful imagery, they add quirky photos and comments to entertain their followers.

See Australia Facebook profile

Post Regularly And At The Right Times

It is important to figure out where your followers are based geographically. This is because the Facebook newsfeed is constantly being updated with the latest posts. Therefore, you need an idea of the majority of your followers’ time zone location, so that you can schedule or post content to go live when they are active on the platform.

Too late at night and they may be asleep, too early during a work day and they will be in morning meetings and not browsing on their mobile. Over the weekend and they will be busy with family or running errands etc.

Optimize For Mobile

Most of your audience access Facebook from their mobile – according to Hootsuite , 88% of them to be exact. Not only that, but they only spend a matter of seconds on a single piece of content.

Keep this in mind for your posts to increase engagement on Facebook. Make sure that all of your content is optimized for mobile – this means eye-catching imagery and headlines with fewer text blocks. You need to halt people for a second while they are browsing and encourage them to react to your post.

If You Are Not Using Video Content, It Is Time To Start

Video on Facebook sees higher engagement than text or photos making it the best format to go viral.

When filming, keep in mind that you will get the most mobile screen space by using a portrait orientation for your videos.

Also, see to it that videos still relay a message even if the sound is off. People browsing the platform will not necessarily be doing so with the sound on so it needs to be able to capture their attention even in silent mode.

When it comes to the algorithm, posting natively is best. This means you should upload your video content directly to the platform, and not share it from another social media profile.

Tour Radar's video tour of Iceland highlights beautiful parts of the country. In just a few days, it has generated quite a bit of interest.

Use Facebook Stories

Stories have the advantage of appearing in the top of everyone’s newsfeed, so they are a great way to be seen on the platform.

They provide an opportunity to add content in an unobtrusive manner as many times as you like without spamming your followers’ newsfeed.

The stories format is expected to be lower quality visually. So you can get away with capturing spur of the moment imagery that is newsworthy without needing expensive equipment or extensive preparation.

Ask Interesting Questions

Asking a question prompts your followers to respond and engage with your post. You could try things like to ask them for their opinion on a matter or see what sort of content they would like to see more of from you.

Naturally, if you go this route, you should respond by posting the content that your followers request to see.

You should also take the time to return the favor and reply to the comments on your question post. Your followers will appreciate the fact that you are willing to engage with them and it doesn’t always need to be an extensive answer on your part.

Include User Generated Content To Extend Reach

As Facebook’s algorithm prioritizes content from family and friends to make a more meaningful experience on the platform, now more than ever you need to incorporate user-generated content into your own.

The connection created by sharing one person’s (or group of people’s) content and tagging them into it, means that the post extends to their audience network too.

In addition to that, user-generated content also acts as marketing material. A personal endorsement of your brand will help raise your overall profile and trustworthiness.

Use Call To Action (CTA) Buttons

Incorporating CTA buttons on your profile page adds an extra layer to encourage engagement.

For your travel brand, the CTA could include a booking button, click through to your website, contact you via messenger, or shop your products or offers.

Intrepid Travel uses several on their Facebook profile – you can see here CTA's asking whether you would recommend the company, as well as a Book Now and Send Message buttons.

Intrepid Travel Facebook profile

Instead of letting Facebook’s algorithm take you down the newsfeed, consider it an opportunity to reinvent your strategy on the social media platform and leverage your travel brand.

Remember that overall, in order to increase engagement on Facebook your content must add value.

Luckily in the travel sphere, this is not hard to do as travel is such an enriching experience. With the right content and approach, you have the potential to grow your brand relatively quickly thanks to the sheer size of the social media platform.

We can count on them to bring new ideas to the table consistently

Before diving into the 15 tactics that will improve your Facebook Group engagement rate and leads, let’s understand what the different types of groups are, why you should create one, and how to create one.

What Is a Facebook Group?

A Facebook group is different from a Facebook page:

  • A Facebook page is an official profile of your business.
  • A Facebook group  is a place where people discuss and share their passion for similar interests.

Facebook pages are for your existing customers who already know your business, whereas a Facebook group is a place where you can attract and engage with new and potential customers.

The below table lists the differences between a Facebook group and a Facebook page :

image12

Why Should You Create a Facebook Group?

Facebook groups are a great way to indirectly promote your business and build loyal followers. Hence, I would recommend that every business owner create groups related to their niche and nurture their target audiences.

Let me give you an example.

Suppose you are the owner of an online pet food shop. Wouldn’t it be great if you could create groups related to “pet grooming,” “pet food,” “German Shepherd,” “Doberman,” etc.? You can create groups related to different dog types or create general groups related to dog care and grooming and share real advice on how to groom a dog or what food types are best for them.

Slowly and gradually, you will develop a loyal following of dog owners who will look for your next tips and advice. Unlike the more salesy or one-on-one business pages, groups are the best place to learn from the experience of others. Dog owners can unite to share their knowledge with the community so that the rest of the members can learn real, practical tips from them.

This concept of learning and sharing is what makes this a nice way to build a loyal community among your members and stimulate Facebook group engagement.

Creating a group on Facebook is easy. Follow the below steps to get started:

1) On the left-hand column of your Facebook page, click on Groups:

Create FB group 1

2) Then click on + Create new group :

Create FB group 2

3) Provide a name for your group. For example, “Technology Icons”:

Create FB group 3

4) Select the  privacy option . If you selected private, select whether to make your group  visible or hidden .

5) Invite people to your group to get the conversation started. To invite new members to a group :

  • From your News Feed, click Groups in the left menu and select your new Group.
  • Click + Invite , which is below the cover photo.
  • After choosing which method to invite people, enter the names (or emails) of those you want to add and then click Add .

Image titled Invite Non‐Friends to a Facebook Group Step 20

Anyone can see the group name, posts and members. Public groups also appear on searches and news feeds. New members can add themselves without admin approval.

If you’re using your Facebook group to promote your business, a public group is beneficial. You can grow your Facebook group quickly . Your members can also share valuable content and engage in conversations with your business.

The main disadvantage of a public Facebook group is the lack of privacy. Since anyone can join, there are spam and fraud risks. If you keep your group open then anyone can join and start spamming your members by sharing promotional posts which might degrade the entire purpose of your group.

Beyond the security risks, you and your members may be bogged down by the notifications. And don’t forget, you still lack control over the ownership of the Facebook group if it’s public.

Closed Facebook groups are slightly more exclusive than public ones. Facebook users can view the group name, description and member list. But new users need approval before they can view the group’s content.

Communication that happens in a closed group can only be seen by other members of the group, making it a place that only specific people can access.

Many businesses choose a closed group because you can maintain the uniqueness of your group and enable safe conversations among your customers and peers. Your audience will still see your promotional posts, such as special offers and events.

The main disadvantage to a closed group is you’ll need to hire an admin to approve new user requests and monitor the conversations.

Secret Facebook groups are only accessible to its members. These groups don’t appear in searches or on news feeds, and non-members won’t view any details.

Since non-members can’t see or engage in group conversations, this is the best option if you need privacy. For example, a private option is best if your Facebook group members are employees. Your staff will feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns within the organization, rather than to use it as a promotional tool.

The main disadvantage is you’ll limit your growth opportunities, if you want to use a Facebook group to enhance brand awareness.

15 Proven Facebook Group Engagement Tactics

Here are the top tactics that have been proven to raise Facebook group engagement levels:

When you welcome new members of your group, you automatically establish a connection with that member right from day one. This connection helps your members feel included and comfortable enough to open up so they can share their thoughts easily with other group members. Or you can encourage them to create a welcome post.

Members who have joined your Facebook Group in the last 7 days are considered new members. On your group page, click Members on the top menu:

FB group members 1

Also, there is a clickable link with a strip of thumbnail photos displaying the number of new members that have been added to your group. Just below that, you can click on Write welcome post to customize your message and share it with all your new members:

Members in FB Group

You can ask all your new members to introduce themselves. This is a nice way to make the new members comfortable and get the conversation started.

When people introduce themselves, they feel valued and they consider the entire group as a family because it is easy for them to engage with the members in future.

You can also send personalized messages to other group members because this is a solid way to get them involved and engaged as well. Simply click on the person’s name to take you to their profile, then click on Message  that appears on the top right:

image1 2

There are many ways to highlight top contributors on your company’s Facebook group. You can create posting tiers and reward your contributors with company merch. If your group is public, you can reward customers for referring new members.

Giveaways are some of the best Facebook group engagement posts. Post the contest’s details on the group and let your most devoted customers have first access. Instead of a one-time giveaway, you can also host monthly recognition awards to frequent participants.

You can identify the key contributors of your group with the help of Facebook Group Insights . Group Insights will display all the members in your group who are top contributors based on the number of new posts they have created or the number of comments they have posted in the group.

Go to your Facebook group’s page where you’ll see a list of admin tools on the left-hand side. Click on Membership under Insights to find a list of your top contributors.

Storytelling , especially visual storytelling, is a great way to engage your audience. Create videos that portray a story that ignites the passion that all members share.

Brands like Old Spice  have harnessed the power of visual storytelling to generate tons of engagement:

You can ask group members to submit their images so you can share them with everyone. This is an awesome way to generate lots of engagement. People like things that are kept real. Pro Dive Cairns follows this strategy to good effect:

image14

There is nothing better than a poll, survey or a quiz to keep your members hooked. Engagement happens when you directly ask the users for their comments. It should be a no-brainer!

Posting a poll, survey or quiz lets group members quickly share their opinion and engagement happens almost instantly. One of the best ways of using a poll is to identify the current trends related to your niche and create a poll based on that.

To create a poll in a Facebook group:

  • Go to  facebook.com/groups  and select your group.
  • Click  Write something… and then click the three dots in the bottom right and select  Poll .
  • Enter a question and then fill out options.
  • Click  Post .

Surveys are something that people like in a limited manner, so you need to use it sparingly. Also, quizzes should be easy to answer because if you make the quiz too tough then nobody will participate. In order to motivate your members to take the quiz, you can add a prize. When people are getting something in return, they are most likely to participate in the game.

Posting direct questions is a simple but great way to get the conversation rolling. Think of question as a call to action that persuades people to quickly jump into the conversation and share their thoughts. You can ask the following question types with your group members:

  • Closed questions like “Do you like the new Apple iPhone X?” People will respond to it with a straight ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. These are quick and easy to answer, which is a great way to elicit engagement among participants. As long as the questions are well-written, you can extract valuable data from them.
  • Open-ended questions like “What did you like the most about the new Apple iPhone X?” There can’t be a straight answer to this question and every member will answer differently. You’ll gain more insight from these questions, and members are willing to provide more information.
  • Image-based questions where an image is shared along with the question so that people are able to grasp the question easily. Visual questions are often easier to understand than text-based ones. These questions are especially popular among younger audiences on your Facebook group, who are more visually driven:

  • Debate-oriented questions  like “Do you think homework should be banned?” People can respond and share their answers either supporting the argument or answering against it. When conducted responsibly, debate encourages innovative ideas.
  • General questions  like “Who is your favorite footballer?” These types of questions are a no-brainer. It’s easy, simple and people like to jump into these conversations. Plus, general questions reflect shared interests and improves the understanding of a topic.

Picture quotes works tremendously well for increasing engagement among your group members. You can rock your Facebook group engagement marketing strategy with it!

Facebook captions

You need to find a simple photo and add an inspirational or humorous quote to it (try Hootsuite’s Free Caption Generator ). Once done, share it with your members and people will start reacting to it.

The key here is to find images that match well with the genre of your group. Keep in mind the likes and dislikes of your audience before you use any image because an incorrect choice of image might backfire. Keep the post simple.

8) Share Edu-tainment Posts

There is no need to post three times a day or more for Facebook group engagement posts. The frequency of your posts has nothing to do with engagement.

A study was published by Buffer that proved that not every content type is perfect for Facebook. The content that works best for Facebook is a combination of education and entertainment – or “edu-tainment” . For example:

Edu-tainment FB post example

The ideal frequency of posts should be 1-2 posts per day. When you share just one piece of content each day, then it compels you to share the best content you have instead of everything that you have.

Put time and effort into the type of post you want to share because the Facebook algorithm will perceive your posts as high quality if they receive positive and higher engagement.

Following the above strategy, Buffer was able to reach more than 150,000 people per week  on Facebook:

image17

Consistency is key for any social media strategy, but especially on Facebook groups. By posting frequently, your group stays active and you’ll keep your members informed of your new products, sales and events. If you and your team aren’t posting regularly, you can quickly lose your audience.

The best course of action is to have a regular posting schedule. If you can, avoid sporadic posting – post on the same days or times so your audience can expect when to hear from you.

You need to make sure that the timing of your posts are correct because incorrect timing will lessen the engagement.

You can schedule a post on Facebook by following these steps:

  • Click Groups  in the left menu and select your group.
  • Click on the clock symbol next to Post and select Schedule Post .
  • Select the date and time when you want the post to publish.
  • Click Schedule .

This chart from Influencer Marketing Hub displays the best time to post on Facebook  – depending on your type of business:

best times to post on facebook

Yes, you can leverage the power of Facebook Live videos even though you are running a group. Here are the steps to go live on a Facebook group:

  • Download the Facebook Mobile App.
  • Go to your Facebook group.
  • Click on the button to create a new post.
  • Select the Live video for group icon.

Live video is an amazing way to reach your target audience and boost Facebook group engagement:

facebook-live-for-groups-how-to

When you go live consistently then people start to recognize you, and conversions are easier when people know you.

What type of live videos should you create? Popular examples include:

  • behind the scenes
  • ask me anything (AMA)
  • announcements
  • events and webinars
  • daily thoughts
  • general discussions

Make it a point to ask all new members who join your group to keep the notification on.

You want your members to get notified whenever a new post is added to your group so they don’t have to constantly remember to check out the group page in order to stay updated. How do you make that happen? By (politely!) asking them to turn Group notifications on, with a simple message like this:

Image3

Add instructions for how to turn notifications on – and don’t forget to add the actual name of your group. You could also briefly remind members of the benefits of the group and use a catchy post or visual to draw attention.

Here is the process to turn notifications on in a Facebook Group from a desktop computer:

  • From your News Feed, click Groups in the left menu and select your group.
  • Click the settings icon in the top left and then select Customize notifications :

Image15

  • From here, you can select All Posts (you’ll get notifications any time members post in the group) or Highlights (to get some or most posts):

Instructions for Android and Apple phones are here .

You need to remain on your toes if you wish to see better engagement happening in your group. As a group admin, your role goes beyond just monitoring; it’s about setting the tone and leading by example.

One of the best facebook group engagement tactics is super simple  – just show up! Also:

👍 Engage Actively:  Make it a habit to like, comment on, and respond to posts by members. This not only acknowledges their contributions but also encourages a culture of active participation.

🌟 Build Trust and Rapport:  When members see that their input is valued, they’re more likely to engage consistently. Your responsiveness demonstrates that you’re attentive to their feedback and genuinely care about their experiences.

💬 Strengthen Community Bonds:  Engaging with members helps forge deeper connections, turning casual members into loyal community advocates. Even a simple acknowledgment, like a “like” or a brief comment, can make a member feel seen and appreciated.

🔄 Create a Ripple Effect:  Your active engagement sets a precedent. When members observe your consistent interactions, they’re more inclined to do the same, creating a ripple effect of increased engagement throughout the group.

By taking these steps, people become more comfortable with doing the same and engagement will start to happen more and more.

Interactive content is any type of post that encourages user participation. Common examples include:

  • Infographics
  • Animated content

The goal of interactive content is to include your customers in your discussions, offer them something fun and/or of value (like Pete & Pedro: Men’s Hair Styling Aid Tool), add more personalization in your group:

Pete & Pedro

This makes your group more memorable and engaging, so your audience keeps returning.

As a business, you’ll also learn more about your audience. Plus, your audience may feel more compelled to share the content with others. If this interactive content is branded, such as a business-specific meme , this can improve your brand awareness. Tampa Airport does an excellent job creating hilarious and engaging branded memes.

Regardless of the interactive content you share, ensure that it fits your theme and industry.

Facebook Group Insights is a great way to measure the level of engagement with your members. With the help of Group Insights you can:

  • Understand how members like to engage
  • See the most active members of your group
  • Identify the posts that receive the best engagement

When you have such crucial data in your hands, you can easily see what is working and manipulate your existing strategy accordingly.

Simply click on Group Insights seen on the left side of your group dashboard:

Facebook Group Insights and Metrics

While Facebook groups are an effective way to increase brand awareness and connect with your audience, there are common mistakes that can jeopardize your strategy.

Here are 10 mistakes to avoid if you want to maximize group engagement:

  • Neglecting to Set Clear Guidelines : Without clear Group rules and expectations, a community can quickly become chaotic. Ensure that you have guidelines in place and enforce them consistently.
  • Infrequent Posting : If you’re not regularly posting and sparking discussions, group members will lose interest. Consistency is key to keeping the group active.
  • Not Responding Promptly : Delayed responses or ignoring members’ posts and comments can make them feel undervalued. Always aim to respond in a timely manner.
  • Over-Promotion : Constantly promoting products or services can deter members. While occasional promotions are fine, ensure your group offers genuine value beyond just sales pitches.
  • Not Encouraging Member Participation : Relying solely on admin-generated content can stifle member involvement. Encourage members to share, post and initiate discussions.
  • Allowing Negative Behavior : Tolerating spam, trolling or any form of negativity can deter genuine Facebook Group members from participating. Address and rectify such behaviors immediately.
  • Lacking Variety in Content : Posting the same type of content repeatedly can become monotonous. Mix it up with different post formats and topics.
  • Not Using Group Features : Facebook Groups offer various features like polls, events, and Q&A sessions. Not using these tools can mean missing out on engagement opportunities.
  • Failing to Highlight and Reward Active Members : Recognizing and appreciating your most active and valuable members can motivate others to participate more actively.
  • Not Evaluating and Adapting : What worked a few months ago might not work now. Regularly assess your engagement strategies and be ready to adapt based on feedback and changing group dynamics.

Leveraging Facebook Ads for Group Engagement

Group members have the option to allow ads in Facebook groups. These ads aren’t intrusive – they’re single image ads that blend in with organic content. All ads have a “Sponsored” tag to make sure the purpose is separate from organic posts.

As a business, you can create Facebook Ads for your groups. These result in offsite conversions that increases the reach on your business Facebook page.

Groups is part of Meta Advantage+. To sign up for Meta ads, go to Ads Manager and click Create in the top left. When signing up for Meta ads, select this option if you want your ads to appear in groups . Remember that you must also select Feed so your ads also appear in groups.

Let’s have a look at some of the best examples of posts that are useful to use in your group. These posts have a unique idea and you can utilize these depending on your group niche.

1) Instant Pot Community

Instant Pot is the brand of electronic multi-purpose slow cookers. They’re popular among cooking enthusiasts because they offer an all-in-one approach to meal preparation. Plus, they’re simple enough for cooking newbies and the busy person – just put everything in the pot, turn it on low, and walk away for 6-8 hours.

Image26

Instant Pot hosts their own Facebook group where users share recipes and ask questions. Even if your business isn’t in the food or cooking industries, these posts can generate come excellent Facebook group engagement ideas. Cooking and recipe blog owners are often on the group, sharing recipes they made in their Crock Pot, such as this delicious vegetarian quinoa dish.

This not only increases engagement of your Facebook group posts, but also inspires members to use their Instant Pot. The group is public and anyone can post and join in on conversations, as long as you follow the Group rules.

2) Natural National Geographic Photo of the Day

The magazine National Geographic has many Facebook groups, but this is one of the most engaging. Users share their “natural photo of the day,” and members can view everything from plant life to animals.

Members are free to share their photos, so it’s a great group for professional and aspiring photographers to get their work out to the masses. All photographers share the gear, camera settings and location in this post.

This “lady in red” is an example of the photos members can expect to see:

National Geographic FB Group photo of the day

3) Netflix Recommendations

We all know what it’s like to spend more time scrolling on Netflix rather than finding something to watch. That’s why Netflix created a group where users can offer TV show and movie recommendations on the popular streaming platform.

If your business is struggling to entice responses from your Facebook Group members, even when posting open-ended questions, you’ll want to join this group to see how users word their queries.

For example, this member wants to know what others on the group thought of the series Call the Midwife . Even though the question was simple, it attracted over 200 likes and comments in only a few hours. Most users responded positively, but some addressed concerns such as how the series isn’t available in their country.

Why Facebook Groups Are Great To Travel Blog Promotion

Facebook Groups are an excellent way to promote a travel blog.  For a beginner blogger, I would argue Travel and Blogging groups are one of the best ways to spread the word and get your posts some attention.

Groups of people looking at the sunset. Facebook Groups for Travel Blog Promotion.

More Readership

When you post your article into a targeted niche group, it’s likely going to get read by more people than if you simply posted it to your personal timeline.

Firstly, unless you are comfortable having your Facebook Profile completely public, only your friends will be able to see your timeline posts. Secondly, in a niche Facebook group, you get the audience that is genuinely interested in your topic.

More Collaboration

One of the main reasons I absolutely love some of the Facebook Groups I am a member of is that they connect you to fellow travel bloggers and create community. It is much easier to find a collaboration partner, exchange links, build up your own SEO.

I can also see more and more Brands and Media Agencies joining groups and “hunting for” travel bloggers and travel influencers to promote their products and events – which is absolutely awesome!

More Engagement

Many blogging groups on Facebook have regular reciprocation-based engagement threads. There are usually have rules about reciprocation and encourage members to share your blog posts and social media profiles through other social media platforms (such as Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube and more).

More Blogging Support & Resources

By joining Facebook Groups of fellow bloggers, you can exchange blogging experience, ask questions and get support about challenges you’re facing with your own blog. There are many blogging communities, focused both on the general topic of blogging and on social media platform-specific topics. Here you can quickly get help, get introduced to ideas, engage in online training, discover podcasts and find tools.

Another way to boost your blog post traffic is through the use of social media automation and scheduling tools. Here are links to my posts on this topic: More Time For Fun – Social Media Automation For Travel Bloggers How To Quickly Grow Blog Following on Twitter with Automation & Scheduling Tools

Blogging Definitions Refresher

Before we go into the details on how to use Facebook Groups, let me refresh you on most commonly used definitions:

  • DA – Domain Authority
  • PA – Page Authority
  • SEO – Search Engine Optimization
  • Link Swap or “ link swapping ” is when one blogger puts a link to another blogger’s website in one of their posts and that blogger reciprocates in another blog post. The more of your own blog links you have on other websites, the more likely it is that people will find your blog. It’s also very good for SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
  • Link-dropping – this refers to posting a link to your blog or social media account or post on the wall of a Facebook Group without any particular reason, and sometimes no comment. Aka “no one asked for it”.
  • Click-through – when you post a link to your blog, and another group member is expected to go to your article, stay for a bit, click on any other article and then share on social media (any channel). More of this happens = better SEO for your blog.
  • Collab or Collaboration means someone decided to construct an article from “bricks” from other bloggers. There are typically summary posts, eg. Top 10 Destinations to Visit This Summer. You can contribute a paragraph or two on a particular destination and have links to your own blog added. Depending on the number of bloggers collaborating on the post, this could be good for SEO (the smaller the number the better)

Facebook Groups’ Membership Requirements & Rules

There are many Travel Facebook groups out there that are further “niche outed” and have specific requirements to join . For example, groups can be targeted towards women-only travel, solo travel, family travel, travel with kids, geo-targeted (eg. British Columbia Outdoors ), digital nomads, travel bloggers, parent bloggers, outdoor bloggers, etc.

Before joining, you’ll have to answer a set of questions to be allowed to join. Please answer truthfully.

Each Facebook group has its own rules on what and when you can post. Some groups are actively moderated, some are peer-reviewed and some have spot-checks.

You can find Rules in the About section of most groups, either listed or within the group description.

Facebook group rules - about section

Otherwise, some Admins can post their Travel Facebook Group rules as an “Announcement” – so make sure to check out those too.

Facebook group rules - announcement section

For most Reciprocation-based engagement threads the rules will be listed within the thread itself: aka like-for-like and repost-for-repost. The post will clearly say what’s allowed for posting, when all the reciprocations must be completed by and what you have to do: eg, all-or-nothing, any 5 links, etc.

So, before joining a Facebook Group, be sure to match the requirements and read all the group rules very carefully.

You can be muted, and even banned and removed from a group if the rules are not followed. ..and I must say, it would really suck to be banned by accident simply because you didn’t read the group rules carefully.

Very nice article for those who still use Facebook. Personally, I left Facebook some years ago, and today only use Twitter and Instagram – even though I do know Facebook owns Instagram today…

I blog about France on my blog linked to in this comment, and I do recommend people consider having blogs off SoMe-sites, since you CAN get into trouble once a media such as Facebook shuts down your account. If you have put all eggs into one basket, this could literally shut you down with a lot of content lost…

But thanks for an interesting overview of FB-groups. Highly useful for many. 🙂

Hi Herik, thank you for your comment. I absolutely agree with you that social media is not a winner in terms of traffic and readers, however presence on social media is important for validation. I personally try to automate as much as possible on social media (read my More Time For Fun – Social Media Automation for Travel Bloggers ). Otherwise my blogging toolkit includes: self-hosted wordpress blog, SEO, Pinterest (for search engine purposes), and recently – our own PerfectDayToPlay YouTube channel . + trying to figure out email lists now 🙂

What Should Travel Agents Post on Social Media?

What Should Travel Agents Post on Social Media?

One company has studied what engages travelers the most on social media platforms, and offers its advice. Photo: Jakraphong Photography/Shutterstock.com

Nearly 90 percent of travel agents told Travel Market Report that social media is important to their marketing plans, populating their clients’ and prospects’ timelines and newsfeeds with pictures from far-away destinations, including their own travels and special offers.

But a recent study by Passport Online Inc., a company that provides advisors with social media content and websites, shows that agents must go deeper, and directly engage customers in conversations about their travel dreams, to make social media worthwhile.

“Where we had put our efforts, and where we tell agents they need to be, all focuses on this term of meaningful engagement,” said Jeanne Colombo, vice president of strategic partnerships at the Beaverton, Oregon-based Passport Online Inc. “You have to humanize your brand, and create content that allows fans to have back-and-forth comments with you.”

Passport Online’s analysis of social media engagement for its ESP Facebook Posting service customers shows that, by the end of 2018, travel agencies were experiencing a 170 percent increase in consumer comments on their Facebook pages.

The top-performing post (4,307 comments) was one that asked consumers what type of vacation they preferred of two options – an overwater bungalow or a cabin in the woods. The second most commented post featured four vacation photo options to choose from: “If you were handed a one-week, all-expenses-paid vacation, which one of these places would you choose? A) New Orleans; B) Guatemala; C) Las Vegas or D) Santorini, Greece.”

According to their analysis, inspirational memes are excellent ways to get your content shared. One photo of a mountain range and a quote about how where people travel makes up a big part of who they are, was shared 524 times, the most of any post produced by the company.

Travel advice also does well, with a post about carrying copies of your passport being shared 447 times.

While likes are no longer a principal currency in Facebook success, likes still do help increase the likelihood that a post will appear in the newsfeed of someone who knows a travel agent’s followers. There, the two top likes were a post for agents celebrating Travel Agent Day, May 2, 2018 (2,756 likes), “because we love what we do! It's so fulfilling to help people plan their dream vacations!”; followed closely by a Mar. 13, 2018 post (2,737 likes) of a couple on a beach with a quote about how travel enriches those who travel.

The next level of engagement While Colombo is happy to see engagement increasing overall, she advises agents to understand that there are levels of engagement in the different types of interactions, and advisors need to both understand these differences, and react accordingly to increase engagement to the point of gaining the right to call the follower a customer.

“The easiest thing to do on Facebook is to like, and that’s an opportunity for the advisor to ask why they liked it, or comment about their engagement,” she said. “A share requires the consumer to think of who they want to share with, and agents should see who that is. A comment goes another level deeper, because it requires you to come up with something to say, and that means someone is truly engaged.”

“If someone comments, you can’t say, ‘I don’t have the time to engage them.’ That’s a hot lead. Someone commented. They are 100 percent closable. It might not be today. But you need to write them back: ‘Hey Stan, anyone else want to go on this trip with you. Gather five other couples to go with you for vow renewals.’ It’s all about how to get a lead into my sales funnel.”

Passport Online’s study shows agents received a 110 percent increase in shares and a nearly 75 percent increase in clicks. According to year-end statistics reported by Facebook, more than 2.2 billion people are on Facebook; and 78 percent of American consumers have discovered something on Facebook and then purchased it from a retailer or small business.

Make your social more personal While vacation option posts are engaging, more important is for agents to personalize their digital marketing through platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Colombo advises agents that consumers want to hear more about why agents do what they do.

“They’re almost begging travel agents, ‘tell me about you.’ If you’re an Italy specialist, a cruise specialist, don’t just tell me about what you know and what you sell. You have to create places on your website that talk about why you specialize in those areas, your uniqueness.”

“It goes down to that old adage: ‘People do business with people they like.’ So, you have to decide, who do you want to be as an agent? What do you want to sell? Narrow that list down, because it’s a trap trying to be all things to all people.”

Colombo advises agents to try to post three times a day, to capture more of their clients’ and prospects’ mindshare. “It’s about remaining relevant and top-of-mind. Your clients and prospects are always moving in and out of your pipeline, depending on when they are looking to travel and what they want to purchase, so keeping up a steady stream of digital posts will increase the odds that you are there when they are looking for you,” she said.

The study also establishes some benchmarks that agents can use for their own social media strategies. For example, Passport Online found that the average clickthrough rate for offer posts was 10.9 percent, which is significantly higher than the industry norm. “This statistic shows the level of consumer interest in offers provided by their personal travel agency and the loyalty of consumers to view trusted offers provided by their travel agency,” said Colombo.

While social media is so prominent and popular today, Colombo cautioned agents not to overlook email. For the email marketing channels Passport Online supports, the average agency customer database grew last year from an average of 1,000 names to just under 4,000 names on average per agency.

Colombo also urged agents not to neglect their other digital assets at the expense of social media. In many respects, she said, they need to be coordinated together. “Do your blog regularly. We’ll post onto your Facebook account, but you need to post your own unique content at your website, and where possible, link your social back to that content,” she said.

Passport Online helps more than 7,500 travel agencies host and manage their digital footprint through websites, social media and email marketing; and works with another 30,000 agents through industry consortia and host agencies. This includes more than 1,500 travel agency business Facebook pages.

Tips to Make the Most of Blogging Facebook Groups

  • Turn on notifications for posts that you are interested in learning the answers to. Then you don’t need to say “following” in the comments.
  • Save posts to a directory that you name “travel blog” or “blog ideas” to help you keep track of older posts that had helpful information.
  • When participating in promotional threads, use the save post function to ensure you remember to complete it. You can also set it as a calendar reminder with the link to the post in your iCal.
  • Don’t join threads with deadlines if you know you can’t meet the deadline. For example, if you’re travelling that day or have no wifi.
  • VAs are a helpful way to manage reciprocations in promotion threads
  • You can find niche and location specific groups very easily by searching on Facebook.
  • It’s smart to join both travel blog groups and travel groups. You can learn a lot from your audience in Facebook groups.
  • You will need a blog URL to join most blog groups. So have this set up (and a post or two to promote) when you join.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask “stupid” questions. I’ve asked some things that I felt very embarrassed about but many people ended up commenting that they had the same question.
  • Share your knowledge. #communityovercompetition! Helping other bloggers doesn’t diminish your successes.
  • Build genuine connections. It helps blogging feel less lonely when you’re doing it in your living room or bedroom in the evenings while your family is in the other room.
  • Be encouraging and positive in your comments. You want to be known as the supportive blogger, not the one who brings the group down with negativity.

Conclusion: Best Facebook Groups for Travel Bloggers

Travel Agent Basics for Boosting Facebook Posts

Written by: Guest on June 06, 2019

Facebook-boosting-posts

If you have a business page set up for your travel business on Facebook, you’ve probably noticed the blue Boost Post button in the lower right corner of your posts. When boosting Facebook posts, you pay to have the posts shown to more people than just the people who Like or follow your page.

Consider your target audience, your goal, and how you’ll track your efforts before you boost a post for a smarter approach to your paid posts on Facebook.

Who is your target audience?

Facebookboostingpost2

When you boost a post, Facebook allows you to set an audience for that post. You can choose a relatively specific audience (people who like your page and their friends) to a general audience (frequent travelers). It’s natural to want to reach as many people as possible with your post, but you consider the post’s content and goal. Who is it going to appeal to, and what action do you want them to take? You don’t want to spend advertising dollars trying to reach an audience that isn’t interested in what you are offering.

For instance, if you are boosting Facebook posts about river cruise itineraries, you’ll want to target an older audience. If you are promoting a trade show that you’ll be participating in, you’ll get more interest from those within in driving distance of the venue, so you’ll want to narrow the geographic location.

What is your goal?

Facebookboostingposts1

You could also boost a Facebook post educating followers on the value of travel agents, with a call to action to contact you for a complimentary consultation.

If you have a more established page with engaged followers, you can start to boost posts related to specific offers and promotions. Set a realistic goal for how many inquiries or bookings you want to get about that offer. Urgency plays a big part in the success of promotional posts. Encourage followers to contact you within a certain period of time in order to take advantage of the special.

How will you track it?

Boostingfacebookposts3

Whenever you spend money to market your business, you’ll want to track if it was a worthwhile investment. Part of setting a goal for a post is determining what methods you have available to track if you hit the goal.

If the goal was to earn a certain number of Likes on your page, check your page’s Insights after the boost period is over to see if your post was successful. If your goal is to get 10 inquiries about a limited-time offer, make sure to ask those who contact you about it how they heard about the offer. Keep track of the reach and engagement of the post, to see whether your audience responded to it in the way you hoped they would.

The key is to only use ONE specific call to action per boosted post, whether it to be to Like your page, comment on the post, visit your website, or call you to learn more. Facebook allows you to add a post button to your boosted post with options like “Learn More” and “Send Message” to help you emphasize your call to action and track your results.

Quick Tips for Boosting Facebook Posts

• Start small. The minimum budget to boost a post is $1.00 a day, so you don’t have to spend much to test out one or two boosted posts. After that, see what worked and what didn’t, and then make tweaks. • Play around with Facebook’s detailed targeting. You can view Facebook’s suggestions for your audience, and you can also browse by demographics, interests, and behavior. • You can not boost posts that you have shared from another Facebook page—use your own original content or approved content from suppliers or KHM Travel Group. You also can not boost posts from your personal profile. • The more specific and meaningful you can make the content of your boosted post, the more you will inspire your followers to pay attention. Just because you are paying for more reach, doesn’t automatically mean more people will book with you.

Facebook is just one way to communicate your value as a travel agent! Current KHM Travel Agents can visit the Marketing section of the Agent Portal for more marketing tips and tutorials.

How to Use Facebook Groups to Optimize Your Travel Agency Business

Facebook group for Travel Business Blog Cover photo

Groupboss

Facebook has an audience of over 3 billion active users. It is according to Statista statistics. It is no longer just a social network but one of the most powerful marketing tools available today. Promoting a Facebook group increases your online presence and reaches a wider audience. Social networks have a wide range of tools for effective advertising of travel services. But, like any promotion, it has many nuances, which we will tell you about below.

Why to promote a travel agency on Facebook?

With the right strategy and approach, Facebook group promotion can be an effective yet economical way to achieve your marketing goals. In general, Facebook group promotion solves the following tasks:

  • Attracting traffic to the website
  • Increase brand awareness
  • Improve interaction with the target audience
  • Increase customer loyalty

By promoting your travel agency on Facebook, you can customize advertising to the target audience and thus work only with customers who are interested in your travel products or services. And at the expense of this increase your profits.

Bookatrekking - a case study of a trekking company that succeed on Facebook

Bookatrekking is connecting trek enthusiasts with their dream journeys. With a thriving Facebook community of 5,000 followers, Bookatrekking has established a significant online presence. Moreover, it successfully converted social media engagement into website traffic and leads.

Its strategic approach:

  • Engaging content: Bookatrekking invested in high-quality, visually appealing content. It showcases the breathtaking landscapes of the treks like Tre Cime Hike . Stunning images, captivating videos, and immersive storytelling evoke a sense of adventure and wanderlust.
  • Consistent posting: Regularity was key to Bookatrekking's success. They maintained a consistent posting schedule. This consistency helped in keeping the audience engaged and eager for more.
  • Interactive engagement:  The company actively encouraged user engagement through polls, quizzes, and questions. This way, it created a sense of community among their followers. By fostering dialogue and responding promptly to comments and messages, Bookatrekking built a loyal and interactive audience.

Through engaging content, consistent posting, and a strategic approach to conversion, Bookatrekking has built a thriving online community and translated that engagement into tangible business results.

Can a travel agency use a personal account to promote on Facebook?

No. And it shouldn't for several reasons. First, according to Facebook's rules, personal accounts should not be used for commercial purposes. If you ignore this rule, your page will likely be deleted. Second, personal profiles don't have the same features and tools as business accounts. And thirdly, using a personal account can hinder building a strong brand identity. Therefore, successful Facebook promotion is only possible if you create a separate business account or Facebook group.

What are Facebook groups anyway?

Facebook groups work in a similar way to Reddit communities. They are spaces for users with common interests who want to discuss their favorite subjects and be part of a community.

In this sense, Facebook groups complement business pages, creating a space reserved for interaction only by users who have requested access. This generates a feeling of belonging and appreciation, which are important factors for your company's performance.

But why create Facebook groups?

Facebook groups have different purposes. While some are intended exclusively for sales, others don't allow this practice, focusing only on user interaction.

Participating in a group is very interesting. First, you can study people's profiles and collect information to validate and help with your travel agency`s strategies.

Your approach in the groups must be subtle, avoiding advertising left and right and running the risk of being branded as spam. The best way to act in groups is to participate as another community member, trying to stay active and make a difference to other people.

Whenever possible, interact using your travel agency profile. This is important so that other users see that you value the comments you receive and that you value community interactions.

But you don't have to limit yourself to participating in other people's groups. You can have a group related to your travel agency. Over time, your group will become an exclusive community where people exchange experiences and interact with you.

What is important to measure in your own Facebook group?

Facebook groups also have important metrics that should be monitored. Through them, you can check details such as:

  • Growth: Number of participants and incoming requests. This data can be exported to spreadsheets.
  • Involvement: Times when there are more interactions, days of the week with the best traffic, most relevant posts, and interactions, among others.
  • Members: Tist of the most active users and access to demographic data (age, gender, and location).

Membership growth in Facebook group

To get the most out of your own travel Facebook group, you can use Groupboss . With us, you can collect information about each person entering your Facebook group and then nurture them into your leads.

Strategies for managing travel Facebook group

Some tactics allow you to manage Facebook groups more practically and efficiently.

Participation questions

You can define up to three Facebook group membership questions to be answered by users who request to join the group. This is a good way of having more control over who participates in the community and getting to know the profile of those who join.

According to Hootsuite , Facebook has more than 10 million groups worldwide, and around 1.4 billion users are part of a community. This data shows that being on Facebook is just as important as being found by those who are interested in your travel agency.

Unless you have a national presence, it's important to highlight the group's location so that people in your region can find it more easily while searching for something related to your topic.

Description

As well as the location, it's important to be careful with the group's description . The more detailed and complete the information, the greater your chances of standing out and only attracting users who are genuinely interested in the subject.

Anyone who has a group needs to keep it moving, generating constant interest and engagement from the community. Fortunately, Facebook groups allow administrators and moderators to schedule.

This is an interesting strategy for creating and implementing a consistent and constant content plan. To do this, take advantage of the metrics on the days and times of greatest interest and insist on what has worked.

It's important that your Facebook group doesn't become a mess and keeps discussions focused. That's why you should always keep an eye on what's being commented on and posted in the community. You shouldn't be afraid to remove members who are a nuisance, whether for bad behavior or spam. To help nip this in the bud, Facebook has a series of filters for incoming requests, which speed up the work of managing groups.

3 tips for travel agencies to use Facebook groups

Adhere to these 4 tips to optimize your travel agency business with Facebook groups.

Invite your followers and determine the scope of the group

When you create the group, you can determine how private it will be. You can classify it as a public or private Facebook group . Anyone can join public groups, and Facebook group posts are visible to non-members. In closed groups, posting information is restricted to members. Other users can only see the name and who administers it. They can only join the group by invitation or through a request, which will be approved by the administrator or by a member who is friends with that user on the social network.

To begin with, we recommend that you invite users who already like your company's page, as they already have some involvement with the brand. Whether to make a public or private group will depend on the scope of your brand and your business strategy, but remember that private groups reinforce the idea of niche and exclusivity that many audiences are looking for.

More relationships and less reach

Facebook groups are not the same as business pages. The dynamics and the audience's expectations of the content are also different. While pages seek to reach new users and reinforce existing ones through posts, the idea of a group is precisely to have a narrower reach but with greater intensity.

Instead of working on reach, it works on relationships. Therefore, understand that the brand's level of commitment has to be higher here to nurture this audience and achieve your objective.

Talk about your area, not your brand

This item is a consequence of the previous one, but it is not always seen in this way. When we talk about building relationships, we're talking about creating even more value for your audience with debates and relevant content. In other words, don't just talk about your brand!

Publish content related to your sector and encourage your audience to participate and talk to them. Occasionally publish your blog content, too. Win over your audience through authority and trust, not through advertising. The idea of the group is precisely to get away from ads, and making content that is too commercial can alienate your audience.

Harnessing the power of Facebook Groups can be a game-changer for optimizing your travel agency business. You can establish a strong online presence and build trust with potential customers by creating a sense of community, fostering engagement, and providing valuable content.

Our live coverage of the Baltimore bridge collapse has moved here .

Crew member on DALI said everyone on board was safe hours after bridge collapse, official says

From CNN’s Amy Simonson

A crew member on the DALI cargo ship sent a message hours after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed Tuesday saying everybody on board was safe, according to Apostleship of the Sea director Andy Middleton.

Middleton, who spent time with the captain of the DALI Monday, told CNN’s Laura Coates he reached out to a crew member after hearing about the incident Tuesday morning.

He said there were 22 members aboard the ship from India who were setting sail earlier Tuesday morning and were heading toward Sri Lanka.

“I was able to reach out to a crew member very early this morning around 5:30 (a.m. ET) or 6 (a.m. ET) and get a message to them asking if they were OK,” he said. “That crew member responded within just a few minutes advising that the crew was safe, and everybody that [was] on board was safe.”

Middleton was told by the ship's captain Monday that the vessel was going to take a longer route to avoid risks along the Yemen coast.

“When I was out with the captain yesterday, we were talking while we were driving, and he advised that they were sailing down and around the tip of South Africa in order to avoid the incidents that are going on off the Yemen coast, and it was a safer way to go,” he said.

Middleton said the  Apostleship of the Sea  is a ministry to seafarers with members that spend time in the port and on the vessels as a friendly face to the seafarers that visit the Port of Baltimore, “taking care of their needs to make sure that they're reminded of their God-given human dignity when they're here in Baltimore.”

Search operation ends in "heartbreaking conclusion," Maryland governor says. Here's the latest

From CNN staff

The Dali container vessel after striking the Francis Scott Key Bridge that collapsed into the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland, on Tuesday, March 26.

Six people, who were believed to be part of a road construction crew, are presumed dead after Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday morning. The collapse came after a 984-foot cargo ship hit the bridge's pillar.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told reporters Tuesday evening it's a "really heartbreaking conclusion to a challenging day."

Late Tuesday, it was discovered that two of the construction workers who went missing after the bridge collapsed were from Guatemala , the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late Tuesday.

Here's what you should know to get up to speed:

  • The victims: Eight people were on the bridge  when it fell, according to officials. At least two people were rescued — one was taken to the hospital and was later  discharged , fire official and the medical center said.
  • The incident: Video shows the moment the entire bridge structure falls into the water, as the ship hits one of the bridge's pillars. CNN analysis shows that the  ships lights flickered  and it veered off course before it hit the bridge. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said the crew on the ship were able to issue a "mayday" before colliding into the bridge, which allowed the authorities to stop incoming traffic from going onto the bridge.
  • Response efforts: Earlier, dive teams from various state and local agencies were brought in to assist in search-and-rescue operations, according to Maryland State Police Secretary Col. Roland L. Butler Jr.. The mission started with 50 personnel and continued to grow before the Coast Guard announced Tuesday evening that it was suspending its active search-and-rescue operation and transitioning to a "different phase."
  • The investigation: Authorities are still working to establish exactly how the crash occurred. The National Transportation Safety Board will look into  how the bridge was built  and investigate the structure itself. It will "take time to dig through" whether the bridge had ever been  flagged for any safety deficiencies , NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said.
  • Rebuilding the bridge: US Sen. Chris Van Hollen said the path to rebuilding the bridge will be "long and expensive." Senior White House adviser Tom Perez told reporters Tuesday “it’s too early” to tell how long it will take to rebuild the bridge. President Joe Biden said Tuesday he wants the federal government to bear the full cost of rebuilding the collapsed bridge, noting that it will not wait for the company who owns the container ship DALI to shoulder the costs. Funding could come from the Federal Highway Administration as well as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, but it may require additional funding from Congress.

2 of the missing construction workers from bridge collapse were from Guatemala, foreign ministry says

From CNN’s Allison Gordon, Flora Charner and Amy Simonson

Two of the construction workers missing from the bridge collapse in Baltimore were from Guatemala, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement late Tuesday.

Those missing included a 26-year-old originally from San Luis, Petén. The other is a 35-year-old from Camotán, Chiquimula, the statement said.

The ministry said both were part of a work team “repairing the asphalt on the bridge at the time of the accident.”

The statement did not name the two people missing, but it said the country’s consul general in Maryland “went to the area where the families of those affected are located,” where he hopes to be able to meet with the brothers of both missing people.

The consulate   also issued a statement Tuesday saying its consul general in Maryland "remains in contact with local authorities," and also confirmed that two of those missing "were of Guatemalan origin.”

Six people, who were believed to be part of a road construction crew, are presumed dead after Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday morning when a cargo ship hit the bridge's pillar.

State and federal officials have not released information about the identities of any of the six missing workers.

Underwater mapping of bridge collapse area to begin Wednesday, Baltimore fire chief says

From CNN's Jennifer Henderson

Search operations near the Key Bridge collapse have shut down for the night due to dangerous conditions, but the process of underwater mapping with many local, state and federal dive teams will begin Wednesday, Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday night.

Wallace said the portion of the Patapsco River is “tidal influenced, so it goes through tide cycles just like the open waters of the Chesapeake Bay does.”

The water depths in the area under the bridge vary from 40 feet to more than 60 feet, Wallace said. The deeper the divers go, the colder the temperatures they encounter, and the visibility is zero, he added.

Wallace said when crews arrived Tuesday morning, the surface water temperatures of the Patapsco River were about 47 degrees with an air temperature of 44-45 degrees.

Here's what you should know about the historic Francis Scott Key Bridge

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday after a massive container ship lost power and crashed into the iconic Baltimore bridge, sending people and vehicles into the frigid Patapsco River.

Six people, believed to be part of a road construction crew, are presumed dead and the Coast Guard has ended its active search and rescue mission.

Here's what you should know about the historic bridge:

  • How old?: The Francis Scott Key Bridge, also referred to as just the Key Bridge, opened to traffic in March 1977 and is the final link in the Baltimore Beltway, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA.) It crosses over the 50-foot-deep Patapsco River, where former US attorney Francis Scott Key found inspiration to write the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner, the MDTA says.
  • How long?: The bridge was 1.6 miles long when standing, MDTA reports.
  • Traffic volume: More than 30,000 people commuted daily on the bridge, according to Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.
  • How much did it cost?: The bridge cost $60.3 million to build, MDTA says. Since its collapse, President Joe Biden said he’s committed to helping rebuild the bridge as soon as possible.
  • About the port: Baltimore ranks as the ninth biggest US port for international cargo. It handled a record 52.3 million tons, valued at $80.8 billion, in 2023. According to the Maryland state government, the port supports 15,330 direct jobs and 139,180 jobs in related services.
  • About the ship: The bridge collapsed after a container vessel called Dali collided with one of its supports. Dali is operated by Singapore-based Synergy Group but had been chartered to carry cargo by Danish shipping giant Maersk . The ship is about 984 feet long , according to MarineTraffic data. That’s the length of almost three football fields.

Baltimore woman says bridge collapse was "like a piece of family dissolved"

From CNN's Kit Maher

For longtime Baltimore resident, Ceely, who opted not to share her last name, seeing footage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse  Tuesday was deeply personal.

“I was very heavy-hearted,” Ceely told CNN. “Very tearful, thinking about the families whose loved ones may be in the water and just remembering when the bridge was constructed, and it was just like a piece of family dissolved.”

Ceely was at a prayer group Tuesday morning when she saw the news. She recalled being afraid when she first crossed the bridge while in Ford Maverick in 1975, but grew to like it because it saved time on the road.

“It was a main artery just like a blood line. It was a main artery to the other side of town. It was awesome. It beat going through the city all the time,” she said.

Elder Rashad A. Singletary , a senior pastor who led Tuesday night’s vigil at Mt. Olive Baptist Church told CNN that many church members watched the bridge's construction.

"It’s a part of the community. A lot of our individuals in our congregation drive that bridge to go to work, and so now it’s really a life changing moment,” he said.

"Heartbreaking conclusion to a challenging day," Maryland governor says as Coast Guard ended search operation

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

People look out toward the Francis Scott Key Bridge following its collapse in Baltimore, Maryland on March 26.

More than 18 hours after the collapse of the Baltimore bridge, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said it was a heartbreaking conclusion after the Coast Guard ended the search-and-rescue operation for the six people who were on the bridge when it collapsed.

It's a "really heartbreaking conclusion to a challenging day," he said.

"We put every single asset possible — air, land and sea" to find the missing people, he told reporters on Tuesday evening. "While even though we're moving on now to a recovery mission, we're still fully committed to making sure that we're going to use every single asset to now bring a sense of closure to the families," the governor added.

6 people presumed dead after Baltimore bridge collapse, Coast Guard says. Here's what we know

As the sun sets in Baltimore, six people are presumed dead after a major bridge collapsed overnight Tuesday, according to the Coast Guard. The Francis Scott Key Bridge came down around 1:30 a.m. ET after a cargo ship collided with it.

The Coast Guard said it has ended its active search-and-rescue operation for the missing construction workers who were on the bridge when it collapsed.

  • What we know: Eight people were on the bridge when it fell, according to officials. At least two people were rescued — one was taken to the hospital and has been discharged . The Coast Guard has been searching for six other people. But, around 7:30 p.m. ET, the Coast Guard said it has transitioned to a “different phase” of operation, now it did “not believe we are going to find any of these individuals alive,” Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath said.
  • About the ship: The bridge collapsed after a container vessel called Dali collided with one of its supports. The vessel is operated by Singapore-based Synergy Group but had been chartered to carry cargo by Danish shipping giant Maersk . The US Embassy in Singapore has been in contact with the country’s Maritime and Port Authority, a State Department spokesperson said.
  • The investigation: The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the collapse. A team of 24 experts will dig into nautical operations, vessel operations, safety history records, owners, operators, company policy and any safety management systems or programs, said NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy. A voyage data recorder will be critical to the investigation, she added.
  • Vehicles on the bridge: Officials are also working to verify the numbers of how many cars and people were on the bridge, Homendy said. Gov. Wes Moore said the quick work of authorities in closing the bridge had saved lives . Radio traffic captured how authorities stopped traffic and worked to clear the bridge seconds before the impact . Maryland State Police Secretary Col. Roland L. Butler Jr. said there is a “ distinct possibility ” more vehicles were on the bridge, but authorities have not found any evidence to support that.
  • Looking ahead: NTSB will look into how the bridge was built and investigate the structure itself, including if it was flagged for any safety deficiencies , Homendy said. The federal government has also directed its resources to help with search and rescue, to reopen the port and rebuild the bridge, Vice President Kamala Harris said . Earlier, President Joe Biden said t he federal government will pay to fix the bridge.
  • The economy: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg warned the collapse will have a serious impact on supply chains . Until the channel is reopened, ships will likely already be changing course for other East Coast ports. Ocean carriers are already being diverted from the Port of Baltimore, where the bridge collapsed, to the Port of Virginia to “keep trade moving."
