The Bankers Life Fieldhouse is located in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and is home to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers and will be the future home of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. Its sponsor, Bankers Life, is the primary subsidiary of CNO Financial Group, Inc.

Arena Guide by Basketball Tripper

The Bankers Life Fieldhouse was built as a replacement facility to the Market Square Arena; the arena didn’t officially break ground until July of 1997 and wasn’t finished until November of 1999.

Originally named Conseco Fieldhouse, the company renamed itself as CNO Financial Group in May of 2010, but the Conseco name remained on the Fieldhouse. In December of 2011, CNO Financial Group changed the Fieldhouse’s name to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, named after one of its subsidiaries, Bankers Life and Casualty.

In April of 2019, the Fieldhouse underwent a significant renovation. The $360 million projects were approved by the Marion County Capital Improvement Board and included: • A new outdoor entry plaza. • A new indoor gathering location. • Various interior improvements. As part of the renovation plan, the Pacers committed to staying in Indianapolis for the next 25 years. Construction was set in two phases, with the 2021 NBA All-Star Game being the middle of the two stages, which was ultimately canceled due to COVID-19. Almost all of the construction work will occur during Pacers’ offseasons and will force the Fever to relocate for the time being.

In 2005 and 2006, the Fieldhouse was ranked the number one venue in the NBA according to the Sports Business Journal. In 2006 The Ultimate Sports Road Trip confirmed that ranking and listed Bankers Life Fieldhouse as the best venue in all 4 of the major sports leagues. The team took a tour of all 122 major sports facilities in a project that began in 1999; Bankers Life Fieldhouse has again withstood scrutiny to be named the “best of the best” in the four major sports.

Indiana Pacers dominate the paint and cruise to win over Brooklyn Nets

  • Author: Tony East

In this story:

The Indiana Pacers hosted the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It was the first meeting of the season between the two teams despite both groups having played 65+ games already in 2023-24.

Indiana lost a heartbreaking game on Wednesday , so they were hoping to bounce back against a team that has a much worse record. But throughout this season, the standings haven't meant much in terms of results for the blue and gold. They still needed to be ready and focused.

Across the first few minutes, both teams were making a few mistakes. There were multiple off-target passes, and it was just 5-4 after three minutes of play. Both squads had hopes of a better start.

Dorian Finney-Smith was an early weapon for the Nets. He was cutting hard to the rim and drilled his first outside shot, and he was up to seven points in just over five minutes. After his third made shot, Indiana took a timeout trailing 11-9. They wanted to regroup.

The stoppage didn't change the Pacers fortunes. They were down seven just a few minutes later as Cam Johnson hit a difficult triple for the visitors. The blue and gold were struggling from deep in the first eight minutes, and it was costing them early.

Indiana put a dent in Brooklyn's lead and chopped it down to two, but the Nets responded with a few baskets and were up by seven again not long after. The Pacers' struggles from long range (0/6 at the time) were holding them back.

They finally got an outside shot to go late in the frame, but they were down 30-25 after one period. Finney-Smith had seven points for the Nets while Aaron Nesmith led Indiana with eight.

Indiana looked more effective to start the second quarter, and they were able to trim the deficit down to two just 3.5 minutes into the second frame. They had a bench-heavy group on the floor, and it was working well.

But they weren't able to keep things close for long. Less than one minute later, the Nets had dropped in two outside shots and were ahead by eight. Every Pacers run was met with effective play from Brooklyn.

The blue and gold were playing good defense at the rim for much of the first half, and it finally paid off near the middle of the second quarter. They were able to reclaim the lead thanks to five-straight points at 46-44, their first advantage since it was 9-7. The Pacers looked zippy.

Both teams traded points, and the lead, for the next few minutes. It was a back-and-forth game, with the Pacers inaccurate shooting and the Nets frequent turnovers preventing either team from making a run. It was an obscure game.

At halftime, Indiana led 59-57. Both Nesmith and Pascal Siakam were up to 14 points for the Pacers, and their team was dominating the points in the paint battle 40-26. But their outside shooting needed to be better in the second half.

The third quarter felt nearly identical to the first half early. The Pacers missed more threes. The Nets had a pair of turnovers. Neither team could take control of the game. It was bumpy, and the Pacers were still up by two after three minutes of play.

Andrew Nembhard finally dropped in an outside shot for Indiana later in the frame, but it didn't change much of Indaina's fortunes. They were up 70-68 halfway through the period and took a timeout around that moment to regroup. This was a unique game for Indiana's season — few featured poor outside shooting yet dominant paint play.

In the ensuing stretch, Indiana finally went on a run. They got a few stops in a row and paired it with effective offense, scoring seven-straight points. Tyrese Haliburton attacked the paint and dropped in a few shots, and suddenly it was 77-68. The blue and gold put some energy into the building.

They took a double-digit lead moments later for the first time of the night, but they needed to keep pushing against a persistent Nets team. The blue and gold couldn't coast.

Behind some solid defense, they didn't and were up by 12 with two minutes left in the third period. Haliburton continued to make important plays as Indiana didn't let off the gas.

Brooklyn closed the quarter well, and they cut the Pacers edge under 10 in the final seconds. But the third period still favored the hosts 27-21, and they were ahead 86-78 at the time. Siakam was up to 18 points to pace his team.

The fourth frame started with great play from the home team again, who quickly got their edge back over double digits. They were defending well and putting pressure on the rim, and the Nets weren't able to punish that approach on either end.

Indiana's lead reached 16 at 99-83 early in the fourth quarter. It was their largest advantage of the game, but there was still enough time for a comeback. The Pacers had a rocky close to their most recent home game, so they needed to keep attacking

They did, and they were still up by double digits in the final minutes. Haliburton finally hit a three — Indiana's sixth of the game as a team — and the Pacers were up by as much as 19. They were close to putting the Nets away.

With two minutes to go, the Pacers were ahead 119-94. They were on the verge of victory after a crummy night against the Bulls earlier this week. It was an impressive response to a tough loss.

Indiana held on to win 121-100. They improved to 38-30 with the results and remained in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Haliburton finished with 14 points and seven assists. Siakam had 28 points and 11 rebounds. Nesmith finished with 16 points.

Pacers' Aaron Nesmith: Iffy for Monday

Nesmith is questionable for Monday's game against the Clippers due to a right knee bruise.

Nesmith posted 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes during Sunday's loss to the Lakers, but he may miss the second half of Indiana's back-to-back set. If Nemsith is downgraded to out, Doug McDermott, Obi Toppin and Ben Sheppard are candidates for increased roles.

Anthony Davis scores 36 points while the Lakers hold off another Pacers comeback in a 150-145 win

LOS ANGELES — Anthony Davis had 36 points and 16 rebounds, LeBron James added 26 points and 10 assists, and the Los Angeles Lakers produced their franchise’s highest-scoring performance in 37 years in a 150-145 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 26 points in his biggest offensive game since joining the Lakers, who have won three straight and five of seven. Los Angeles led 116-99 entering the fourth quarter, but Indiana closed the gap to three points down the stretch while putting up a 46-point final period.

Los Angeles held on by scoring 10 points in the final minute — including six free throws by Austin Reaves, who finished with 25 points in the highest-scoring performance by this 17-time NBA champion team since Jan. 2, 1987.

“We played them in the (In-Season Tournament) championship, and we know how high-powered an offense they are,” James said. “They’re never going to stop playing no matter how far they get down or how far they’re up, so it’s a good win for us.”

All-Star Tyrese Haliburton awoke from a quiet 12-point performance to hit two 3-pointers in the final seconds, trimming the Lakers’ lead to three points with 20 seconds to play. LA survived when Dinwiddie made one free throw and Haliburton missed a 3 before Cam Reddish stole Doug McDermott’s pass with three seconds left.

“We allowed them to score 145, so ... it was terrible defensively,” Davis said. “They hit some shots toward the end, but we can do what we want offensively, as you could see tonight. But we’ve got to defend, especially when we’ve got a team (in trouble) like that. We don’t need to give them life, but at this point in the season, a win is a win. We’ll take it, but we’ve got to learn from it as well.”

Indiana coach Rick Carlisle was annoyed after the Lakers shot 43 free throws to the Pacers’ 16, while Indiana was called for 31 fouls to Los Angeles’ 14.

“I thought our guys really battled in this game,” Carlisle said. “There were just certain things that were impossible to overcome. A 27 free throw differential is one, and a 17-foul differential is the other.”

Pascal Siakam scored 19 of his 36 points in the third quarter for the Pacers, who dropped to 2-1 on their five-game road trip after playing dismal defense in the second and third quarters, allowing 86 points by Los Angeles. Myles Turner added 20 points and TJ McConnell had 17 for the Pacers, who had eight double-digit scorers.

“Sometimes when you have difficult challenges, it’s easy to drop your head and just say, ‘Hey, it’s not our night,’ but our guys don’t do that,” Carlisle said. “Our second unit battled in the second half. That last five-minute stretch, the first unit came back in there, and they were defiant about hanging in the game. At a certain point, you’ve got to play absolutely perfectly, and that was going to be very, very difficult.”

Dinwiddie stepped up while the Lakers won for the first time in six games this season without sharpshooting guard D’Angelo Russell, who was out with a non-COVID illness.

Offensive fireworks were no surprise in this matchup. In the Pacers’ last visit to face the Lakers in November 2022, they rallied from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter before Andrew Nembhard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a stunning 116-115 victory .

The teams met for the first time since the Lakers beat the Pacers 123-109 in Las Vegas to win the inaugural In-Season Tournament last December. The Lakers, who will play at Indiana on Friday, went into a 3-10 slump immediately after raising that trophy, and they haven’t been able to rise higher than ninth in the Western Conference despite going 22-13 since that skid.

Russell’s absence and the Pacers’ speedy play caused problems for the Lakers early on, but Davis had 15 points and nine rebounds in the first half to keep it close. The Lakers scored a season-high 116 points through three quarters, but Siakam kept Indiana in it by himself.

Most of Argentina’s national soccer team attended the game ahead of La Albiceleste’s exhibition match at the Coliseum on Tuesday.

Pacers: At Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

Lakers: At Milwaukee on Tuesday night.

LOS ANGELES — When the Lakers started this stretch of 12 of 14 games in Los Angeles back in late February, the hope was that they could use this homestand to put themselves in a better position for postseason play.

Sunday’s 150-145 win over the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers’ third consecutive victory to put them at 39-32 on the season, ensured momentum will be on their side before they start a week-long road trip that could have significant postseason implications.

“Offensively we were very sharp,” LeBron James said. “We know how high-powered offense they are, so they’re not going to stop playing no matter how far they get down or how far they up or whatever the case may be. So it’s a good win for us.”

In a rematch of the Dec. 9 In-Season Tournament championship game, Anthony Davis was once again too much for the Pacers (40-32), finishing with 36 points, 16 rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Davis had a pair of late buckets to help secure the victory for the Lakers, who are seven games over .500 for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

Spencer Dinwiddie, who started in place of D’Angelo Russell (sidelined because of a non-COVID illness), finished with 25 points and five assists. His point total was his highest since joining the Lakers last month, besting the 11 points he scored in Friday’s win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

“He was being aggressive,” Davis said. “As you seen last game, he’s starting to find his way and he was aggressive last game and he just carried that over. Being himself, hit some threes, attacking the basket, being the Spencer that we need him to be.”

Davis added: “How he played [Sunday], we need him to play like that the rest of the season. Instant offense that he can score when he wants. He’s a big guard. He can defend. We are going to need him to be the Spencer he was [Sunday].”

James finished with 26 points (8-for-19 shooting), 10 assists and five rebounds while Austin Reaves had 25 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Taurean Prince added 14 points (6-for-8 shooting) off the bench.

The Lakers’ point total was their highest since scoring 155 points in a Jan. 2, 1987 win over the Phoenix Suns. They shot 56.2% from the field (50 of 89), 48% on 3s (12 of 25) and 88.4% on free throws (38 of 43).

“It’s…so common now [because] guys are more skilled, there’s more freedom of movement, the 3-ball and the way it’s impacted the game, you’re going to have these high-scoring games like this, man,” coach Darvin Ham said. “The skill level of these guys now and the way teams are shooting the 3-ball and the volume of 3s that we’re seeing from game to game, it makes it where this has become instead of something that’s foreign, it’s totally common now. So, you just got to try to keep up as best you can.”

The Lakers opened the game up in the third, outscoring the Pacers, who were led by Pascal Siakam’s 36 points and 12 rebounds, 44-31 to take a 116-99 lead into the fourth.

“I’ve been in this building enough times to know and understand that you gotta be really keyed into the details of the game,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said pregame. “You get things going willy-nilly at all. I mean, the building erupts. LeBron’s going coast to coast and they just got the whole thing going.

“You fly in there, get a shot locked and fly out of bounds underneath the basket. I mean, you’re giving up two or three points, it’s almost guaranteed.”

A late barrage of 3s from the Pacers, who made three shots from beyond the arc in 16 seconds in the game’s last minute, kept the game close but Cam Reddish sealed the victory with a steal and free throw.

The Lakers will kick off their six-game road trip with matchups against the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Offensively, we wanna continue to share the ball,” James said. “We wanna continue to get high-assist games, low-turnover games, and just keep playing together. If we do that, we’ll be OK.”

Pacers vs. Lakers prediction, odds, pick, how to watch – 3/24/2024

W e’re set for our final NBA betting prediction and pick for Sunday’s full slate of action as we conclude the night in Los Angeles for a matchup between playoff-poised teams. The  Indiana Pacers (40-31)  will take on the  Los Angeles Lakers (38-32)  as the squads meet twice over the next four games. Check out our NBA odds series for our Pacers-Lakers prediction and pick.

The Indiana Pacers are currently third in the Central Division and they’re holding the six-spot in the Eastern Conference. They’re just barely avoiding the play-in tournament and have won five of their last seven games, including back-to-back wins over the Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors heading into this one.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently fourth in the Pacific Division and they hold the nine-seed in the Western Conference. They’re eyeing a play-in tournament scenario, but don’t forget what time team did during the In-Season Tournament. They come into this game off back-to-back wins over the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers.

Why The Pacers Could Cover The Spread/Win

The Pacers are playing great basketball at the moment and they’re doing everything they can to avoid a play-in scenario. They’ve been one of the most potent offenses all year and they lead the league in fast-break points and assists. They’re a very solid team on the road and have covered 20-15 ATS in such games. Furthermore, they’ve gone 5-2 ATS during their most recent stretch and they’re looking for at least one win over these Lakers their next two meetings.

Tyrese Haliburton will have an advantageous matchup here and we can expect him to continue spreading the ball around to his playmakers. Myles Turner may have to leak out with Anthony Davis covering him, so expect Haliburton to take some drives to the hoop as he helps aid the scoring efforts. If Turner can continue shooting the three at a high clip as he has all season, the Pacers will stand a chance to win this game on the road.

Why The Lakers Could Cover The Spread/Win

The Los Angeles Lakers have been impressive in their own right and they’re fighting for their chance to make it to the Playoffs. No team wants to see LeBron James in an elimination scenario and with Anthony Davis fully healthy, it’s clear this team is waiting to kick their play into high-gear come the postseason. James continues to have an incredibly efficient year and Anthony Davis is having one of the better shooting seasons of his career. Look for their role players like Austin Reaves to really carry some of the scoring pressure over these last few games.

The Lakers have been great at home over this recent stretch and it’s clear they’re playing with a ton of energy in their own building. LeBron James has been able to control their offensive flow at home and he’ll be looking to do the same during this matchup. If the Lakers can rely on their defense and stop the Pacers from running out in transition, they should be able to win this game as short home favorites.

Final Pacers-Lakers Prediction & Pick

This should be a tight game given both teams’ positions in the standings and both squads have been playing consistently over their last five. The Lakers have seen great success at home this season and they were able to beat the Pacers 123-109 convincingly at home last game. If they can feed into the crowd’s energy and stand tall on defense, we should see a similar result this time around.

However, the Indiana Pacers stand a chance to win this game if they can push the pace and play fast in transition. The Lakers will have seen back-to-back action and an energetic Pacers team could pose issues for them.

Still, this game should be dictated by the defenses and it’ll be interesting to see the matchup between Myles Turner and Anthony Davis. Expect both of them to have an important role in rebounding the ball.

For our prediction, we’re going to side with the Indiana Pacers to cover this spread on the road. While the Lakers are the bigger and more physical team, the Pacers’ defense has caught-up since the last time they saw Los Angeles and should put forth a better effort here. Let’s roll with the Indiana Pacers to cover the spread on the road.

The number isn’t attained often. A team scoring 150 points in an NBA game is an eye-opener and an outlier, prompting a visit to the record book. As kids these days say about anything remotely stressful: “It’s a lot.”

The Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers, 150-145 , Sunday at Crypto.com Arena. Notably, all that scoring came in a regulation 48 minutes. No overtime. That separates the feat from many other NBA games where a team has hit the 150-point mark.

The Lakers’ point total was the most by the franchise since a 155-118 blowout win over the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 2, 1987.

Let’s start at the top. The highest scoring game in NBA history, according to statmuse.com, occurred in the thin air of Denver’s McNichols Sports Arena on Dec. 13, 1983, with the Detroit Pistons defeating the Denver Nuggets, 186-184, in triple overtime.

Now, that’s a lot. But the score at the end of regulation was only 145-145, and the Lakers and Pacers scored more points per minute (6.15) than the Pistons and Nuggets (5.87) did in the game’s entirety. An NBA-record four players scored more than 40 points — Kiki Vandeweghe (51), Alex English (47), Isiah Thomas (47) and John Long (41) — and six players from each team scored in double figures.

Notably, the three-point shot had been implemented four years earlier, but only four three-pointers were attempted, with each team making one of two.

“It was a shot you took to try to come back when you were down,” Kelly Tripucka of the Pistons told ESPN years later. “It wasn’t a part of anybody’s offense. Our feeling was, why not move the ball and move your feet and get a good shot from 15 feet? We were playing old-school basketball, I guess.”

The second-most points in an NBA game came last season when the Clippers defeated the Sacramento Kings, 176-175, in double overtime. It marked Russell Westbrook’s Clippers debut and he contributed 17 points and 14 assists. The teams averaged 6.05 points a minute, fewer than the Lakers and Pacers on Sunday.

Clippers score team-record 175 points but still lose in double-OT thriller to Kings

Kawhi Leonard finishes with 44 points and Russell Westbrook makes a solid debut for Clippers, but late mistakes send them to a 176-175 loss to the Kings.

Feb. 24, 2023

The highest point total in a game that lasted only the regulation 48 minutes came in 1990 when the Phoenix Suns beat the visiting Nuggets, 173-143. The Suns led, 107-67, at halftime, and when the game ended, 6.58 points had been scored per minute.

How frequently does a team score 150 points? There are 1,230 games in an NBA season. Last season, 10 teams reached 150 or more points, while this season it’s been achieved nine times.

The Lakers’ highest output was produced by one of their greatest teams, the 1971-72 NBA champions that featured Hall of Famers Jerry West , Wilt Chamberlain and Gail Goodrich in a 162-99 win over the Golden State Warriors.

The first of 15 times the Lakers have exceeded 150 points came Dec. 8, 1961, in their second season in Los Angeles after moving from Minneapolis. They defeated the Philadelphia Warriors, 151-147, in triple overtime with Chamberlain accumulating 78 points and 43 rebounds — for the losing Warriors.

Kobe Bryant looks up at the Staples Center scoreboard and his 81-point total during the final seconds of a 122-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Jan. 22, 2006.

Remembering the night Kobe Bryant scored 81 points

Time flies when you score 81 points.

Jan. 21, 2016

Less than four months later, Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record with 100 points for Philadelphia in a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pa. Again, a lot.

The second-highest individual scoring total is 81, by Kobe Bryant on Jan. 22, 2006. But the final score wasn’t anywhere close to the 150 mark: The Lakers defeated the Toronto Raptors , 122-104.
