The Tour at NBC Studios takes you on an exciting journey through NBC Studios in Rockefeller Center where broadcast television was born, showcasing where some of today’s most popular shows are made, right in the heart of Manhattan.

The Tour features behind-the scenes access to NBC’s most iconic television studios and video exhibits. The Tour showcases everything involved in television production and highlights the legacy of NBC in Rockefeller Center.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour some of the studios where iconic shows like Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and NBC News programs are produced and taped.

The Tour at NBC Studios begins and ends at The Shop at NBC Studios, where you will find exclusive apparel and collectibles from your favorite NBC shows. The Shop is located on the lobby level of 30 Rock at Avenue of the Americas/ 6th Ave between 49th and 50th streets.

The Saturday Night Live ticket lottery for the 2023-2024 season is now closed. The ticket lottery for the 2024-2025 season will open at 12:00am EST on August 1, 2024 and run until 11:59pm EST on August 31, 2024. To enter the lottery, send an email to [email protected] . You may only send one email per person. Submissions entered before or after the ticket lottery window will not be considered. Please include your first and last name and tell us why YOU would like to be a part of our studio audience! If you are selected, you will receive a set number of tickets for a random show date and time. Entering the lottery does not guarantee tickets, and you will only be notified in the event that you are chosen.

Saturday Night Live makes reasonable modifications of its policies, practices and procedures and provides reasonable accommodations. Guests are encouraged to request accommodations in advance to ensure that we have enough time to provide the necessary accommodations.

1. Book a standby reservation by going to the link provided ABOVE to request up to 4 standby reservations. You may choose to book a reservation for either the 8pm dress rehearsal or the 11:30pm live broadcast. You will be asked for your first and last name, your email address, and how many people are in your party. After registering, you will receive a confirmation that you are now part of our queue.

2. You will receive an email with your reservation number. Due to the number of requests, it may take several hours for your reservation number to arrive by email. A reservation number will be sent by email until we reach capacity per event. Reservation numbers will be issued in the order received.

Please note duplicate submissions for the same date are not permitted. If you request a SNL standby reservation more than once, only your most recent (latest) submission will be considered and that submission will determine your reservation number.

3. If you received a reply to your request with a reservation number, check-in at the in-person standby line at the 49th Street NBC Studios Marquee between 6pm and 7pm on the Friday before a show day. The exact location is 49 W. 49th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. You and everyone in your party MUST be present with a photo ID (as specified below) at check-in. Any members of your party that are not present at check-in will forfeit their place in line. Reservations are non-transferable.

4. You will be assisted to line up in numerical order based on your standby reservation.

5. Standby cards will be handed out at approximately 12:01am on Saturday morning of a show day. Photo ID will be required again at this point. Standby cards are limited to one per person. Standby cards will not be distributed at any time other than 12:01am.

We want to make sure the standby process is fair for everyone, so all standby line members must always remain in line after checking in Friday night. If you do not wait in line, you will not be admitted to the show. No “line-sitters” please.

The use of:

• Lounge chairs (regular chairs are permitted)
• Sleeping bags

…will NOT be permitted in the standby line at any time.

Of course, you are free to take minimal, necessary breaks (i.e., going to the bathroom) from the line. Please note that all standby reservations and cards are non-transferable and non-exchangeable. NBC staff reserve the right to revoke the cards of, or not issue any cards to, anyone in line for any reason, including if proper procedures are not followed.

Remember, a standby card does not guarantee admission.

No More NBC Studio Tours in Beautiful Downtown Burbank

It's the end of an era in beautiful downtown Burbank. At noon today, guests took the last tour of the NBC Studios there.

For decades, tourists have been able to pop in on NBC's Burbank lot and get visits to sets including"The Tonight Show" from willing and cheerful pages. But the studio has been sold and most of NBC has or is moving over to the Universal lot so the tours are ending.

The NBC Studio tour was unique among its contemporaries, as no other major commercial network offers visitors a chance to see television production facilities behind-the-scenes. Seeing Stars has warned past guests that the modest tour "is not a theme park in disguise," (you know, like that one down the way in a city called Universal), but also glossed quite a bit (or just walked you by key spots on the lot) during the 90-minute tour, of which for many the highlight remained the Johnny Carson "Tonight Show" set (Leno moved out of that in 1994).

For local blogger Mike (Schneider) of Franklin Avenue , who ended up working in media in L.A., the NBC Studio tour was a personal favorite when visiting the area in the 1980s:

A trip to see the NBC lot was cool in itself -- I was steps away from the likes of Brandon Tartikoff, a name I knew thanks to reading TV Guide. But then we actually got to see the "Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" set when it was dark, plus walk past soundstages and see the local news set. For a 10 year-old, that was all awesome.

Since not many NBC TV shows were actually shot at NBC Studios, the tour in recent years was more likely to appeal to the heftily nostalgic, thrifty (tours were less than $10), or soap opera fanatics.

The studio tour at NBC isn't free, but it is reasonably priced when compared with the cost of the tours provided by the local motion picture studios. NBC's $8.50 admission charge seems like a bargain compared with the $69 charged by Universal Studios or the $45 charged by nearby Warner Brothers . It also beats the $15 price of the Paramount Studios tour.

The NBC tour is a modest one, though. You'll find no audioanimatronic sharks snapping at your heels here, no 50-foot apes or flying DeLoreans. Unlike Universal , the NBC Studio tour is not a theme park in disguise.

And unlike the Warner Bros tour, there are no mini trams or giant back lots to explore. It's just a 70-minute, indoor walking tour, offering a down-to-earth view of a working television studio.

Then it is up to Studio Three , the set where the " Tonight Show " is taped. (Jay Leno moved the show to this building in 1994, from the historic Studio One where Johnny Carson taped his shows.) There, tour guests get to sit in the same seats as the " Tonight Show " studio audience and see that famous, familiar " Tonight Show " set up-close.

The tour shows you videos about NBC's history, gives you demonstrations of sound-effects machines, and explains how such TV effects as 'chroma key' is brought to life. You might even bump into a minor celebrity along the way. And they accomplish all of this in less than 90 minutes. It's a polished, professional little tour which probably satisfies most tourists' urge for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of some aspect of Hollywood.

The problem is that the NBC tour is just a little too slick.  In fact, it's superficial - bordering on condescending.

You get the feeling that someone in charge thinks the tour guests have just fallen off the turnip truck.

When soap opera actress Deidre Hall (from " Days of Our Lives ") "accidentally" walks by and waves hello, you're supposed to believe that it was a blissful coincidence.

Guests are "treated like tourists" in the worst sense of that term. The well groomed tour guides are friendly and polite, but you are always aware that, as a visitor, you are being kept on a very tight leash. What you see along their short, carefully-orchestrated tour route is what they want you to see - a shallow presentation designed to satisfy the supposedly unsophisticated hordes of tourists with a bare minimum of realism, while keeping them well out of the way of actual studio operations.

Don't come here expecting to explore the secrets of a working TV studio. Most of what they show you is about as spontaneous as a museum display, and the tour group is often simply routed into separate little rooms where they can be amused, but kept safely out from underfoot.

So is the tour worth the price of admission? Well, the cost ($8.50) is certainly low enough, the tour is polished & mildly entertaining, and you do get to take a look inside one of the most famous television studios in Hollywood, however cursory that look might be.  I suppose that just being able to see the inside of the " Tonight Show " studio (without standing in line for hours) might be worth the price of admission for many folks. But at its heart, the tour is a sham... it could be so much better if only it were more authentic and just a bit more spontaneous. You might be better off simply getting free tickets to the Tonight Show .

A word about crowds: I took the tour at 11 AM on a weekday in late October, and there were about twenty other people in my casual, relaxed group. But I am told that the tours gets much more crowded during the peak summer tourist season, especially on summer weekends when they can sell out early. I suggest you try to visit during the off-season.

Adults:                 $8.50 Seniors (60+):     $7.50 Children (5 12)    $5.00 (Children under 5 free.)

Hours : Tours depart at regular intervals from 9 AM to 1 PM on weekdays (Mon-Fri). Closed on Saturday & Sunday (except during peak summer & holiday seasons, when they are open extended hours and on weekends). Phone ahead to be sure.

It's always Christmas on the silver screen, or at least within those cinematic stories that are synonymous with Santa Claus, snowfall, and silent nights.

We can return to our favorite wintry television shows and movies, again and again, even as we make the quirky connection that we're looking at a Burbank backlot filled with snow, er, "snow," and not some icicle-strewn New England township.

Warner Bros. Studio is home to the brrr -filled backlot we're winking at, of course, and of course cinephiles know that the oft-balmy Burbank has stood in for plenty of parka-packed places.

To honor that legacy, and to give film fans a chance to connect with some seasonal cinema and small-screen fun, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood will whisk winter-seeking guests off to an adventure inspired by the holidays, starting on Dec. 22 and wrapping on Jan. 1.

It's a limited-time happening, so reserve your tour ticket soon if you'd like to join the holly-jolly Hollywood-themed jaunt.

Stops include Stars Hollow from "The Gilmore Girls," where a wholesome snowmen contest will be on never-melting view, and Stage 48, the tour-concluding spot that features famous costumes, including Papa Elf from "Elf" and the Jack Frost snowman from the film of the same name.

The tour will offer several "holiday photo opportunities," promises the tour department, so feel free to wear that tinselly top or colorful gnome sweater, if you're looking to get into the snapshot-appropriate spirit.

Including those tales we were sure, upon first viewing, were filmed in a destination that really does experience intense winter weather and not the soft, light-sweatered sunshine of Burbank.
