Thanks to an army background and hostel life, I have been traveling since I was a kid. But one trip that changed my outlook on solo travel was my trip to Europe in 2012. I was a bundle of nerves when I went on that trip, but since then, there has been no looking back.

A piece of advice for all the wanderlust-ERS out there?
Travel is like an addiction and you can never have enough of it. With every travel, you grow as an individual. My only advice would be to travel with an explorer’s open mind and be adaptable. The humbler and grounded you become, the more love you get in return. Also, travel for the love of travel not just for the GRAM.
A travel quote that always inspires you to travel.
Happiness is only real when shared.

Your favourite travel destination
Goa and Auroville remain my personal favourites among all the places I have visited in India. In abroad, Melaka (Malaysia) takes the crown. For yet-to-visit destinations, backpacking through Europe remains at the top of my wish list.
One travel gadget you always keep in your backpack
I’m Dora and my smartphone is the arsenal of my exploring tools. From local maps to translating languages, to capturing beautiful memories, to get all the updated information; Everything is possible because of this trustworthy companion.

I was 9 years old and my parents had to visit my grandparents’ place in Phagwara, which is a town 35km from my hometown, Ludhiana. My grandma was a brilliant cook. So, visiting her was always a treat. I insisted I’ll also come to Phagwara after school gets over. So, I travelled alone as a 9-year old. And, ever since, got hooked on travel.
That destination had remained on my bucket list for decades. It was only in late November 2017, when I finally visited Iceland. The place has all the magic I had expected. It has some of the largest glaciers in Europe you can snowmobile for miles on, craziest eerie ice caves that you can sing in, sprawling natural Jacuzzis (thermal baths) for sipping a chilled beer in arctic winters, Northern lights that remind you of a discotheque, caves filled with centuries-old lava, stunning landscape you can’t get enough of, gigantic waterfalls that inspire awe, and… and a large number of ‘Game of Thrones’ locations.
My iPhone with scores of apps that range from Translate Voice Pro (my go-to app in countries where very few can communicate in English), The Photographer’s Ephemeris (it tells me the sunrise/sunset time and direction of the sun at any spot I plan to shoot in), Night Sky (helps me find the Pole Star during my Astro-photography night outs), and many more.
Do you have a favourite travel book or a travel movie?
My favourite movie is ‘Into the wild’. The biographical story of Christopher from ‘Alexander Supertramp’ to ‘The Magic Bus’ is a story of someone who is a true explorer at heart. My favourite book is ‘Atlas Obscura’. As the foreword of the book mentions it, this book is not for travellers, but for explorers.

Honestly, I don’t recall my first journey. It was just a natural progression of things. However, my earliest memories of my travel for leisure abroad was with my parents as I toured the Far East (Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines). It was our family holiday together and for some reason, though I was just 7, I remember it all.
I don’t have one, I have many and it keeps increasing. For now, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Bhutan, Gold Coast, and Udaipur.
My Camera. I just cannot travel without it.

Bhutan would forever remain my favourite travel destination. In fact, I started writing about my travels after paying a visit to Bhutan . The surreal landscapes and friendly people with great hospitality left an everlasting impression on me.
I recently purchased a GoPro and since then, I have always made sure of keeping it. It’s very easy to handle and produces great results for both, photos and videos.
My favourite travel movie would be The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I love how he takes brave decisions in the breathtaking backdrop of Iceland and then continue to go on adventures that bring him closer to his purpose.
At least once, you should go somewhere unplanned. No bookings, no reservations, no itinerary. Just go and see where the road takes you. I used to plan my itineraries very intricately to not miss out on things. But, since I started travelling in an unplanned manner, I find my travels to be much more fulfilling.

The financial power—thanks to my first job—gave me the ability to do things my way in a new place. The freedom and the new sensory stimulations excited and inspired me. Since then I am hooked.

It is all the Unesco World Heritage sites. Our road trips in different countries have been planned along with the Unesco sites of that country. The last major road trip we did was through Spain and Portugal – 3155kms. We covered 23 sites on this trip alone.
I am not a big fan of tech gadgets but mobiles with google maps, a good camera and a good collection of music have been a constant companion on our road trips.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is my most favourite travel book now.
I am not sure if I am there yet to advise, but I would like to say, travel responsibly. Travellers today travel to the remotest part, popularise it and the next thing we know a horde of tourists marching to the newly discovered destination spoiling it in the process. Travelling is an experience we all need in our lives. We can escape for a day or two to see the beauty in the neighbourhood of the city or take a full 2 month vacay. We can start from little. Can do what we can achieve. Because it all starts from the smaller steps.
Make plans that are realistic. Or don’t make plans at all. As the most fun and enjoyable travel experiences happen unplanned. It’s important to let that idea hop on our brains before we hop on that vehicle and get started to where we want to go. It is not that difficult as we think it is. We just need to start. Just explore and you can taste the beauty around us. Like some of the travel bloggers have said, this is a beautiful planet and we ought to see it.

India Travel Tips for First-Time Visitors
I’ve never been to India. I know. Crazy, right? It’s not that I don’t want to go but life has just always gotten in the way. However, India is a place a lot of people visit and, since I can’t write about it, I want to bring in someone who can: my friend Mariellen Ward. She’d a travel writer who has been going to India since 2005 and runs the website Breathedreamgo . We’ve known each other since 2010. Today, she’s going to share some tips on how to visit India for first-time visitors.
I will never forget my first time visiting India. My first car trip in Delhi felt like a roller-coaster ride. Cars and trucks of every size, overloaded bicycles and motorcycles, and even the occasional bullock cart, seemed to be coming at me from every direction. No one was paying any attention to lanes or the rules of the road. Vehicles were driving the wrong way. I couldn’t make sense of what was happening.
I had heard about the “sensory overload” travelers feel in India, and now I was experiencing it. It was exciting and nerve-wracking in equal measure. And just a taste of things to come.
I spent six months crisscrossing the subcontinent on my first trip, back in 2005 and was often overwhelmed by the huge crowds, the foreign traditions, the perplexing bureaucracy, the mind-boggling complexity, and the bewildering culture shock.
These things combined make India a challenging — though very exciting and rewarding —destination.
However, if you read and follow these travel tips for first-time visitors, they could help smooth out some of the more disorienting bumps.
1. Slow down
It takes time and some know-how to successfully navigate in India. This is not a place for hurried travel. Don’t try and see as much as you can; that is not the right approach. It’s tiring to travel in India, and the object should be to experience it, not to check things off a list.
As a general rule, for every two weeks you are in India, pick one region. For a one-month trip, just pick two regions — say, two weeks in Rajasthan and two weeks in Kerala . You can even sit in one place and still not miss anything. No matter what, if you are in India, you will experience India.
2. Adjust your attitude
Likewise, accept that things will not go as planned. Cultivate the philosophy that things happen the way they are supposed to, not the way they are planned. This attitude can lead to the most marvelous adventures.
3. Be careful who you trust
Having said that it’s a good idea to be open, a healthy level of skepticism also comes in really handy in India. There are many con men there, especially in the travel and hospitality sector. They have a sixth sense for first-time visitors and will try and take advantage.
So, learn the prices by asking locals and other travelers before negotiating with auto-rickshaw drivers and market vendors. Don’t believe drivers — or random people you come across at airports, train stations, and tourist attractions — who tell you things such as your hotel burned down, or the train you want was canceled.
Often, an opportunity to make money off of you will spur creative tactics, and some of these scams can easily catch you off guard. Once, I was looking for a new iPhone case and the vendor showed me one and told me it was made by Apple. But a close look revealed four spelling mistakes in one short sentence engraved inside the case.
4. Practice safe travel
There are also anecdotal reports of women being molested, especially in busy, crowded places. Follow basic precautions and safe travel strategies, and use common sense in India.
Here are several safety travel tips (please read my top tips for women traveling in India for more details):
- Buy a local SIM card so that you can make local calls and stay in touch.
- Research carefully where you want to go, ensuring it is an area frequented by other travelers, with good infrastructure and hotels.
- Plan your travel so you don’t arrive late at night; travel during daylight hours only.
- Be careful when posting to social media, so that you are not revealing your current location.
- Stay alert to your surroundings, and keep a close eye on your handbag and luggage.
- Keep the Tourist Helpline number handy and call if you need any assistance: 1-800-111363.
5. Try a small group tour
For your first time in India, try taking a small group or custom tour to help you get your feet wet. My company, India for Beginners , was founded to help women travel safely and well in India. We offer a few small group tours, but we specialize in creating custom tours and providing a high level of personal service, such as meeting travelers at the airport and assigning a tour manager who is available 24/7. We hold your hand in India!
6. Take the train
Taking a train in India is a great experience and should not be missed. However, you need some basic knowledge about the classes and the trains. You may not want to dive into sleeper class or general class immediately; I would recommend 2AC (second class with air conditioning) or CC (chair car). Or even 1AC (first class with air conditioning) or EC (executive chair car).
Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains are among the best in India, so try and book one of these. Overnight trains can be a problem because they don’t clean the toilets at night, so keep that in mind when you book.
7. Eat the food
India is one of the world’s great culinary destinations, and first-time visitors should not shy away from trying all the delicious cuisine on offer, even street food. Some of the famous Indian items you shouldn’t miss are masala chai, sweet lassi, biryani, pakoras, dosas, and sweets such as gulab jamun and kheer.
It’s hard to avoid getting sick in India, though, because you never know when a tainted item will cross your plate. It could be at a street stall or a five-star restaurant. However, you can reduce the chances of getting sick by following these basic rules:
- Drink filtered or bottled water only.
- Watch for undistilled water in ice or sauces.
- Avoid salad and other raw food unless you can peel it (such as an orange or banana).
- Eat only food that is freshly cooked.
- Look for busy stalls and restaurants with high turnover.
8. Get a local SIM card
Everything in India runs on WhatsApp, one-time password (OTP) verification, and text messages. Because of this, you need a local number. To do so, get a local SIM at the airport when you arrive. Still, you may have trouble paying for things online with a foreign credit card, as India requires OTP verification, and getting registered with Indian Railways so you buy train tickets online is nearly impossible.
9. Remember where you are
For example, unless you’re on the beach in Goa, it’s wise to wear modest clothing in India . Long, loose, and flowing are key for dressing for the climate and the culture.
It’s also best to be very respectful, especially with regard to the myriad religions. And be aware that genders relate differently in India, and overfriendliness can be misconstrued. Be polite, but with strangers, and especially those working in the hospitality sector, it’s usually best to dial back effusive friendliness.
10. Follow the seasons
Weather and the season matter in India. It’s incredibly hot almost everywhere in May and June, the monsoon season is July to August, and it’s surprisingly cold in north India in winter, December to February. Do some research and find out the best places to visit in India by season .
So, when it’s cold in north India, head down to tropical Kerala or Goa and hit the beach. In the heat of summer, check out Ladakh, a high desert plateau that sometimes seems otherworldly. Note: Fall is festival season, so you can experience Durga Puja in Kolkata, Diwali in Jaipur, or the Camel Fair in Pushkar.
11. Visit attractions in the morning
(However, this rule does not apply to shopping. Stores, and even restaurants, tend not to open until 10 or even 11 am. Urban Indians tend to do everything late. Breakfast and lunch are late, and dinner can be very late indeed.)
12. Head into the countryside
You can go trekking in the mountains, take a tiger safari , visit one of the many national parks, camp out overnight on a sand dune in Rajasthan, or take a boat cruise on the Brahmaputra River.
And don’t forget the rural areas. Most Indians still live in villages. It’s really worthwhile to meander through the quaint villages of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, or Uttarakhand.
India is not an easy place to travel. It’s not a relaxing vacation destination. It is, though, an experience — often a life-changing experience. Start by doing research, read books about India , watch movies about the country, learn about the cultures and various destinations, and get ready for a transformative travel experience.
Like many before you — from The Beatles to Steve Jobs to Elizabeth Gilbert — you may just fall in love with the place. As writer Rumer Godden said, “Once you have felt the dust of India, you will never be free of it.”
Mariellen Ward fell in love with India, with travel, and with travel blogging on her first trip to the country in 2005. She has spent more than seven years of the last 18 in India, and now lives there. Though Canadian by birth, Mariellen considers India to be her “soul culture.” With her travel blog, Breathedreamgo , she tries to encourage and help other female travelers to go after their dreams. And her custom tour company, India for Beginners , is dedicated to helping women travel safely and well in India.
Book Your Trip: Logistical Tips and Tricks
Book Your Flight Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner . It’s my favorite search engine because it searches websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is being left unturned.
Book Your Accommodation You can book your hostel with Hostelworld . If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com as it consistently returns the cheapest rates for guesthouses and hotels.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:
- SafetyWing (best for everyone)

Travel Jobs in India – 10 reasons why you should hitch a ride with us?
Ever since we started our operations last year, we have learnt many things about the Indian travel industry. Including how many people out there are looking for travel jobs in India. We have had a moderate amount of success so far in promoting our tours to potential customers, but we have been absolutely inundated with resumes from people looking to work for us. It also helps that, like our offbeat tours , we have a one of its kind career section on our website. And we receive them from people of all different types – From a jaded and frustrated IT sector employee going through an existential crisis to a wide eyed 20 year old, inspired to make a name for himself. We also realized that more and more people in this country want to travel around, not for leisure, but as a way of life, to learn more about themselves and the world. Thus, this blog post is our tribute to that wanderlust jobseeker in you looking for travel jobs in India. Here we tell you, in the increasing order of importance, why you should join goMowgli and help us in making goMowgli one of the best travel companies in India.
10) Everybody except your parents envies your job.
It is a tough job to be part of team in a bootstrapping startup. It is even tougher to be part of a team in a bootstrapping startup in the Indian travel industry. But then the outside world does not see this. All they see are the constant stream of social media updates on the beautiful places we go to. They think we have the best job in the world. We concur. (Our parents’ still don’t).
9) Casual wear is work wear. Shorts come recommended.
We are not hung over how you dress. As long as you don’t stink and wash off the travel grime frequently enough, you are good to come to work. If you push us to name a work attire, we recommend shorts or cargos, with lot of zippers and pockets. Very handy while you travel.
8) You make friends in the travel industry. And everywhere you go.
We in goMowgli understand that, for us to grow big, we need to partner with existing players in the travel industry. Thus we try making friends everywhere we go. And we give them a lot of business too. This means, we get a steal deal whenever we want to travel for our personal reasons. And we ain’t complaining.
7) You work while you travel. And get paid for it.
This one is obvious but we had to include it here. We travel a lot – We know Karnataka like the back of our hand and very soon, we will be like a rash, all over Southern India . Running tours across this large geography involves a lot of travel. It involves a lot of hard work which is why we will also be paying you for it.
6) You travel so much that you actually long for the cold comfort of your desk. Albeit for a short time.
5) Long hours mean long hours on the road and talking to other travellers.
We have constantly been stressing how hard a job it is to work for us. Trust us on this – it really is. But it involves talking to human beings and fellow travelling and making new friends on the road rather than communicating with your computer to compile a piece of code. It also means that we expect you to be leading a tour group and stressing over the trivial details, pretty much like your nit picking manager. But then again, we promise you a lot of freedom at work.
4) You learn one of the most useful life skills ever. The art of telling a story.
Working at goMowgli makes you very conversational, at times much to our chagrin. Irrespective of what you do here, from leading tour groups to writing blog content like this, we stress on learning the art of telling a story. We also expect you to read a lot and be curious about the world around you – for our customers expect us to be pretty knowledgeable and answer their questions. For the ones we can’t, we make up our own stories. Remember, even cock and bull stories sound bewitching when heard over a cold mountain air.
3) There is enough variety of jobs to be done. To suit your skill.
We have constantly mentioned in this blog that we have jobs where we pay you to travel. That is just to garner your attention when you were looking for travel jobs in India. We really have those jobs but there are even better jobs to found in goMowgli. We need all kinds of skill to build one of India’s most innovative travel companies. We need Content Writers, Social Media professionals, Channel Sales Executives, Customer Service Executives, Operations Experts and a whole lot more to make goMowgli bigger and better. We have jobs to suit every skill you posses. And all these jobs combine a fair amount of travelling with the skill you already possess, something with which you can build a solid foundation for a flourishing career. We also need a core team to make goMowgli happen. You just need to apply for it.
2) It is a lot of hard work but you will learn a lot. And it is extremely satisfying.
Just in case, we have forgotten to mention this, working in goMowgli is a lot of hard work. goMowgli is a startup like any other, filled with passionate, idealistic and opinionated youngsters wanting to change the world for the better. We do not know if we will ever get there, but we sure go to bed satisfied everyday knowing that we learnt something new today.
1) We are making India a better country to travel around.
Talking of changing the world, we believe India is the best country in the world to travel around. We also believe that India is not showcased the way it ought to be. We want to change all that forever by building a network of hop on hop off buses travelling all around India, offering unique and authentic Indian experiences to travellers around the world. A few years hence, we want to enable travellers to travel all of India, all 3 million square kilometres of it, on a single ticket with goMowgli. We promise we will get there someday. Do you want to join the team that is going to make it happen?
If you came here seeking travel jobs in India, and read through the above blog and are still interested in working for us, you can apply on our careers section . As mentioned previously, we have a plethora of jobs to suit all your skills. The only mandatory requirement for you to apply is that you ought to possess a sparkle in your eye and a dream in your heart. Everything else can be learnt on the road.

Hi Go Mowgli, I have already filled up all the answers in the careers page, I dont know if I would ever get contacted back. But the thing is few words are not exactly enough to showcase my passion. I have the passion to travel and I could do that everyday, I have a connection with cameras and I love shooting everything that I see. I have by far tried to show what I see to the world through my YouTube channel. But corporate jobs are unworthy to give out time. I need my break I just need one chance, and particularly with you I see a hope. Hopefully you see that hope in me.

- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat insects or animals. I guess the strangest tasting food I know of is magic mushrooms.
- A story from your travels – It’s a funny question because I upload stories on Instagram pretty much every day, and they keep changing. I approached them to ask if there was a pharmacy nearby as I needed a pain-relieving spray (my knee was hurting after walking around for a few kilometers inside the temple grounds). They didn’t know English (or even Hindi and Punjabi). I didn’t know Mandarin. So, a lot of sign language later, one gentleman seemed to understand my problem and gave me extensive directions. Following his directions, I hobbled across for a kilometer or so, went up four floors of a dilapidated building and found myself in a stockings store instead of a pharmacy. Despite my pain, I couldn’t help smiling as I realized how my sign language sucked and what that old man understood! It made me realize I am not cut out to act in Bollywood movies!

- Motivation to travel – The prospect of unearthing newer destinations and recounting those stories is what motivates me. I always liked to write and travel provides the fodder for that. So, blogging is not an afterthought for me and I am thinking of my lines even as I am hiking through a jungle. For the same reason, I try to find locations as unique as possible and I am not really interested in touristy environs and luxury resorts.
- Top bucket List Destination – I am looking to explore the innermost areas of Ladakh, including the Suru Valley and Zanskar Valley. This will be followed by more explorations into Northeast India.
- Biggest travel inspiration – There are many but I think as a writer I will go with Eric Newby, for his ability to turn an unsuccessful climb to top-notch travel literature.
- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – Not strange, but it is the other way round. Once in the interiors of Nagaland, I had to survive on boiled cabbages as I could not eat the rest of the items.
- A story from your travels – There are many but I think I’ll go with the one at Dzukou Valley when I mistimed the trek and got stranded in the jungle for the night during a solo trek. - Strangest food item you’ve tasted – Roasted Snake in Vietnam
- A story from your travels – I keep telling people how enchanting my first Scuba dive was! I had visited Thailand but didn’t have the courage to Scuba dive as I don’t know swimming. But when I visited Indonesia, I really wanted to experience this unknown world under the waves and water. So, I took the plunge, both literally and metaphorically. I jumped in the ocean with my instructor and during my dive, I was in a world of magic! That moment will always be close to my heart. That’s when I realized, not every magical world is fiction, you just need eyes to notice it. This is the story of getting out of comfort zone to experience something which you couldn’t even imagine!

The couple has a long bucket list and every item they knock off it is replaced by two more.
Join them as they tick off items off their bucket list on their blog ‘ Ticking the Bucket List ‘.
- Motivation to travel – The joy of meeting new people, seeing Nature in her glory, sampling local food and the freshness that it adds to life
- Top bucket List Destination – Swimming with the jellyfish in Palau
- Biggest travel inspiration – Nature as always been our biggest draw …earlier it was mountains, now it is beaches and other interesting landscapes and phenomena.
- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – We are vegetarians, so have always had the ‘regular and boring food’. However, we did chew on coca leaves (which is used to make cocaine) to beat altitude sickness in Bolivia.
- A story from your travels – Here is our attempt to sail…just 1 km, but it sure did transform into a memorable story. Ankur and I rented a boat in the Adriatic sea to island hop. It was our maiden attempt at sailing. I decided to captain the boat and Ankur decided to perch himself on the little plank in our boat. Let me add, Ankur was learning swimming then and my captaincy wasn’t the safest feeling. A few minutes into the sea and the water got a little ‘choppy’; well, as choppy as a fat man snoring, which isn’t ‘choppy’ in the real sense, but isn’t as calm as a lake either. And I dropped the anchor, which I could not lift. I wanted Ankur’s help, but he decided to maintain his perch for the want of dear life! Thus, the scene was as follows: Me struggling to pull the anchor; Ankur clinging on to the plank. Ankur finally mustered some courage and helped me lift the anchor..we make a great team – always! We abandoned our island hopping mission and sailed back to the port and reached the jetty with an extremely ungraceful thud! Never did we show our face in that port again!

For tidbits about their misadventures and the stories of people they have met on their travel, read their blog, ‘Awara Diaries’.
- Motivation to travel – We don’t like to be settled. There is a range of reasons that keep us motivated to travelling – sometimes it’s to see the world, on some days it is work, sometimes it is to run away from the routine, sometimes it is to learn from the world around you. The best motivation though is to meet the world, experience and create stories .
- Top bucket List Destination – Hard to pick one! But Turkey, Iran and Uzbekistan are there right on the top.
- Biggest travel inspiration – Internet & Movies: They make us want to want to see new places, experience new cultures!
- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – Parichay is a vegetarian, so he usually travels eating all the cheese he can. Parampara, on the other hand, eats everything on the plate, except she’s not into cheese. So the cheese variants can get weird for her!
- A story from your travels – We have plenty, many embarrassing ones- missing the train, sleeping at the train station, Parampara getting locked in the bathroom. We make it a point to share these imperfect stories from our travels to let people know it’s not all the glamour. But mostly, we just love sharing all the kindness we experience while travelling, selfless deeds from people around!

To check out their photo blogs and get inspired to start your own journey, go to ‘Interlude Journey ‘.
- Motivation to travel – Travel always happens as an Interlude that breaks the mundane in my life ( That is why I call my blog Interlude Journey). Though I love my full time job, the monotony of doing the 9 to 5 chores and staying at desk for long takes out the Interest for me. That is when I travel so that I rekindle my interests.
- Top bucket List Destination – There are two things on top of my wishlist right now. Watching cherry blossoms in South Korea and Aurora Borealis in Iceland.
- Biggest travel inspiration – Movies. The first thing that I get drawn to in a movie is the locations where it is shot.
- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – I haven’t had much chance to try strange food while travelling but one thing which is close to strange which I ate is a dessert made of Bamboo rice in Wayanad.
- A story from your travels – Travelling turns a person into a storyteller and it is no different in my case. Though I have many anecdotes from my trips within India, the one story which I always end up telling often is about our visit to Lakshadweep and how we almost had the entire Island of Thinakkara to ourselves. We went around the island along the shoreline in the night. The tide has completely subsided exposing the vast seabed. Walking on the white sand made of coral dust which glistened like jewels in the moonlight was like living a fairytale.
22. Ankita Kumar – Monkey Inc.
Ankita Kumar is a filmmaker and scriptwriter by profession. This travel monkey from India is in love with all things bright and strange, and travel. Being a relatively new trend in the country, Ankita’s famous caravan trip received a well-deserved attention. When she’s not spazzing out, she’s probably a part of an awesomely crazy adventure in an obscure location.
Check out ‘ Monkey Inc’ to read about Ankita’s adventures and to be easily amused.

- Motivation to travel – There is no bigger motivation than travel itself. We like to travel to experience new destinations, cultures, and also to lose ourselves in the beauty of nature, be it the mountains, forests, or beaches.
- Top bucket List Destination – We feel that there are so many destinations waiting to be explored by us and so many experiences awaiting out there, that a lifetime would be insufficient. However, one of the top destinations on our bucket list is Iceland. We want to experience the mystique of the Northern Lights there.
- Biggest travel inspiration – We do not have any particular person or persons who inspire us to travel. It is more the call of the mountains, the seas, the forests, and the silent songs of ancient monuments that motivate and inspire us to travel.
- Strangest food item you’ve tasted – Being vegetarians we cannot claim that we have eaten anything really strange. Whatever we have tasted across different countries seemed perfect and nothing that has really come across as strange.
- A story from your travels – We were in the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, East Africa. We focussed our camera on a huge silverback gorilla who was about 6 feet from us. A that moment felt someone brush past. It was another gorilla!

Stories of how I met with an accident in Laos, got lost or went to emergency in Sri Lanka (And recently Bratislava). - Strangest food item you’ve tasted – I am not very much into experimentation when it comes to food. However, I had tried dried mithun meat (a local cattle found only in Northeast India and China) in Arunachal Pradesh with their local beer “Ara”. It was worth the risk I must admit.
- A story from your travels – Being a solo traveler, there have been many (mis)adventures on the road but, it is the locals who have always come to my rescue. My favourite is the one when I was travelling in the most interior parts of Maharashtra (Ahmednagar) and I boarded a wrong bus. I wasn’t well versed with Marathi (local language of Maharashtra) and none could speak Hindi. It took me a long time to convey where I intended to go and everyone on the bus helped me figure out alternatives. The bus left only after I boarded the right vehicle. I met a girl in the vehicle and she invited me to stay at her home after listening to my story. Her family showed me around the entire village and nearby places. Today, they have become like my second fam and I get invited every year at their annual family get-togethers. My (mis)adventures have managed to strengthen my faith in humanity after many such encounters.

I said I did but was sad that I couldn’t visit Lake Bled. It was 10 AM. She grabbed my hand, took her car and raced to Lake bled with me. - A story from your travels – The deadly trek to the Chandratal lake in 2009 which gave birth to my blog Devil On Wheels… I still remember people urging us not to attempt this trek due to snow on road, making it slippery enough but I was into a negative trance of my life, a life which I never respected. We went out for the trek with some AMS symptoms, (at least now I know what it was ;)) was having an awesome time of my life, healing my depressive feelings before I slipped into the water crossing / nallah drenching my feet completely, snowfall started and weather upturned on its head. Guide asked us to move back fast before we freeze right there and reach the base Battal to get some warmth inside the dhabha. It was a run for life and as I slipped onto one of the snow slopes the whole life went through a flashback and suddenly I felt I have to live. That was it, guide saved me from the fall and we reach back safely to the base, got some fire inside dhabha, puked a couple of times and went to sleep. The next morning I woke up I was not the person before, I loved the sun rays, the snow outside, the stones, nature and I was missing my family… I knew that the depression died last day in a run to save my life, in a run to live life and I am no longer the person before…
