BODY COUNT recently completed work on its new album, "Merciless" . The follow-up to 2020's "Carnivore" is tentatively due later this year via Century Media .

In February 2023, Ice-T told Metal Hammer magazine about the musical direction of "Merciless" : "I think we are staying in the same direction. [2014's] 'Manslaughter' was a reintroduction to BODY COUNT , not to just our old fans, but to a whole new group. [2017's] 'Bloodlust' was even better than 'Manslaughter' , and 'Carnivore' was better than 'Bloodlust' . We're going to stay in the same vein, sound and production, but make better and better records."

In October 2022, Ice-T told Darren Paltrowitz , host of the "Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz" , about the upcoming BODY COUNT LP: " Will Putney 's producing again. We've had three consecutive great albums working with Will ; he understands. I call him 'the Dr. Dre of metal,' because he has the ability to produce different groups but make them sound like themselves, but just better.

"We did 'Carnivore' , and right [when] our first date of touring was supposed to start, COVID hit," he continued. "COVID hit, shut down all the stateside tour; 35 European festivals shut down; and we didn't really get to really perform the album; we didn't get to go out, and that kind of sucks.

"You make albums to perform 'em; you don't make 'em just [to sit at home]. And we won a Grammy on that one. That was great; that was a great accolade. It kind of took the sting out of dropping an album to a dead scene; it took the sting out of it. But then the label's, like, 'Okay, we'll do another album.' And I'm, like, 'Wait a minute. We didn't even really get this one out good."

Regarding how he goes about recording vocals for a new BODY COUNT album, Ice-T said: "Usually when I do songs, I'll do the songs but I don't complete 'em. Like, if there's gonna be three verses, I'll sing two and then I kind of live with them, and maybe that way I can think about how I wanna end the song and how I wanna change it up.

"I'm at a point now… When I first used to do albums, I would do, like, 20 songs and then try to pick 12. Now I'm very difficult to find the music, so by the time I pick 12, those are the 12 songs. I'm not doing a whole bunch of recording just to find that… I know what I'm doing. I'm like that photographer that knows how to just wait until the right moment to take the picture: 'Okay, that's one… two.' Versus the guy [who takes a bunch of pictures one after the other]. I don't need to do that.

"So the 'Merciless' album is sounding pretty hard, though," Ice-T added. "We named the motherfucker 'Merciless' ."

"Carnivore" continued the path of its uncompromising and critically acclaimed predecessors, "Bloodlust" and "Manslaugther" , in pairing Ice-T 's impassioned and socio-critical lyrics with thick guitar riffs and nods to metal and hardcore greats like SLAYER , METALLICA , PANTERA , SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE . Guest musicians on the LP included Amy Lee ( EVANESCENCE ), Dave Lombardo (ex- SLAYER ), Jamey Jasta ( HATEBREED ) and Riley Gale ( POWER TRIP ).

BODY COUNT was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards , which was held in March 2021 in Los Angeles. BODY COUNT was nominated for "Bum-Rush" , a track from "Carnivore" .

Body Count and Ice-T’s 2024 ‘Merciless’ 2024 UK and EU tour dates are:

JUNE 5 – Gdansk, Poland – Mystic Festival 7 – Hamburg, Germany – Edel Optics Arena 8 – Nürnberg, Germany – Rock Im Park 9 – Eifel, Nürburg, Germany – Rock Am Ring 11 – Berlin, Germany – Citadel Music Festival 13 – Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic – Rock For People 14 – Budapest, Hungary – Budapest Park 15 – Nickelsdorf, Austria – Nova Rock 16 – Zagreb, Croatia – SRC Salata 17 – Zurich, Switzerland – Komplex 457 18 – Lausanne, Switzerland – Les Docks 20 – Nummijarvi, Finland – Nummirock 22 – Copenhagen, Denmark – Copenhell 23 – Dessel, Belgium – Graspop Metal Meeting 25 – Luxembourg, Luxembourg – Rockhal 26 – Amsterdam, Netherlands – Paradiso 27 – Ysselsteyn, Netherlands – Jera On Air 28 – Clisson, France – Hellfest 30 – London, UK – 02 Kentish Town Forum

JULY 1 – Manchester, UK – The Ritz 2 – Glasgow, UK – SWG3 (Galvanizers)

The tour is named after the band’s forthcoming LP of the same name which is expected to arrive this year through Century Media Records. “I’m proud to say we just finished the FIRST day of writing, recording and track selection for the New BC Album ‘MERCILESS’,” Ice-T wrote on X/Twitter back in 2022.

“Only one goal…” he said of the forthcoming album. “It’s gotta be HARDER than the last….” He then confirmed: “It already is.”

The band’s latest release was 2020’s ‘ Carnivore ‘. In a three-star review of the album , NME  wrote: “Body Count’s last album, 2017’s excellent ‘Bloodlust’, played out against a backdrop of high-profile police brutality and the blacklisting of American football player  Colin Kaepernick  by the NFL, which made stone cold belters like ‘No Lives Matter’ and ‘Civil War’ all the more potent.

“Parts of ‘Carnivore’ lack the same bite and pointed barb of its predecessor. ‘When I’m Gone’, which features  Evanescence ’s Amy Lee, groans towards dated nu-metal and the dark humour of ‘Thee Critical Beatdown’ and ‘No Remorse’ feel like directionless rants into the ether. Yet there are several stand-out tracks. ‘Bum Rush’ takes aim at everything from Trump to the Flint water crisis between squealing leads from guitarist Ernie C.”

‘Carnivore’ track ‘Bum-Rush’ was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Elsewhere, Ice-T recently offered the reasons why he thinks that the fighting game series  Def Jam  isn’t on modern platforms .

Ice-T posted on  X/ Twitter, saying that “so many people ask me why this game hasn’t been brought back for the newer consoles” and that he thinks the reason the console hasn’t been released on more modern platforms is that developer EA  would have to “pay for voice and music rights again”.

The rapper continued in  another post , writing that he doesn’t think that “they [EA] paid any of us anything to be in that original game. I know I didn’t get any type of substantial money. It was a situation where you didn’t want to be left out of the game.”

Body Count is an American speed and heavy metal band, formed in 1990 by rapper Ice-T and guitarist Ernie. C, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Formed in 1990 by former Crenshaw High School students, lyricist Ice-T, guitarists Ernie-C and D-Roe, bassist Mooseman, and drummer Beatmaster V, Body Count’s first performance came when they played with Ice-T at his show on the 1991 Lollapalooza tour. The show exposed the band to a host of alternative music fans and subsequently Body Count’s heavy metal influence made a strong contribution to the Ice-T single of the same name on his album “O.G. Original Gangster”.

Body Count’s eponymously-titled debut album was issued in March 1992 on Sire/Warner Bros. Records to positive reviews and eventually made a number of the year’s best-of lists. The success of the album led to an international following and shows across the U.S and Europe, including one heated show in Milan, Italy that resulted in the band stealing a taxi-cab to escape from an angry mob of fans. The album caused even more controversy for the single “Cop Killer”, which got blown out of all proportion, and resulted in the song being dropped from the album and replaced with “Freedom of Speech” later in 1992.

After releasing the Jimi Hendrix cover “Hey Joe” for a tribute album to the rock n’ roll star, Body Count released their sophomore album “Born Dead” in 1994. The album was released on Ice-T’s label Priority, however failed to attract any of the positive or negative attention of its predecessor and marked the departure of bassist Mooseman. Undeterred, Ice-T and the band released their third studio album “Violent Demise: Last Days" in 1997, after which drummer Beatmaster V unfortunately died of leukaemia. The album earned positive reviews from critics who were seemingly now able to appreciate the band’s tongue-in-cheek humour, however it didn’t perform well commercially.

After a considerable hiatus, Body Count returned in 2005 and embarked on a U.S. which resulted in three live DVDs and a live CD, ahead of the band’s fourth full-length album “Murder 4 Hire” in 2006. In 2012 the band signed with Sumerian Records who released Body Count's fifth full-length album “Manslaughter” in 2014.

Live-Bewertungen

Thrash metal is not one of my favorite music genres, mainly because I feel as though I cannot hang with the intensity of it. However, Body Count seems to be an exception to all of the reasons I don’t choose thrash metal. A slight part of it may also have to do with the fact that I’m always all for supporting Los Angeles native bands, as a local native myself.

When they played at the Troubadour, their show was so intense! An in your face, melt your face off experience, leaving you deaf and happy. The show starts with the place completely dark and the first thing you hear is a guitar. Then the entire place lights up, and the band immediately surrounds you with their guitar and drums sound, all the while they are thrashing up and around the stage. Then front man Ice-T comes on from the side of the stage wearing none other than a Jason mask. He takes off the mask and immediately breaks into the vocals. It was a really great surprise to see the variability of his talents, especially since he is most known for being a part of the hip-hop world. He brings to the show a completely different atmosphere, one that is seemingly unique to any other thrash metal show.

It is pretty hard to stay still during a heavy metal concert due to the frantic nature of the music and seeing as Californian outfit Body Count take speed to the extreme, it becomes nearly impossible to stay motionless. The band has close to 25 years experience on the circuit albeit apart from a brief hiatus in the mid-00s so as you imagine all the musicians present this evening are incredibly well trained when it comes to their instruments, knowledge of the material and musical capabilities.

They have definitely taken their time between releasing albums yet the setlist tonight is solid and well thought out. It keeps the crowd not only engaged but also involved as Ice T often asks them to raise their hands and mosh along to the big choruses of 'Born Dead' and 'Necessary Evil'. Things run at lightning pace and twelve tracks have gone by in a blink of the aggressive eye before it is time to take things right back to where they began with a huge finale of 'Cop Killer' from their eponymous debut from way back in 1992.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Politics latest: Interim leader named after Jeffrey Donaldson's DUP departure; 'arrogant' Rishi Sunak has 'big questions' to answer over Easter honours, Labour says

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has announced his resignation as DUP leader after being charged with historical allegations by police; fallout continues after a major Tory donor was awarded a knighthood on the recommendation of Rishi Sunak.

Gavin Robinson, the interim leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, has called Jeffrey Donaldson's charge a "devastating revelation" that has caused "tremendous shock".

But he has criticised "some who have sought to score cheap political points".

Mr Robinson's comments come as Donaldson stepped down as DUP leader earlier today after he was charged with historical sexual offences.

But Donaldson has not resigned as MP for Lagan Valley, and Mr Robinson did not rule out a by-election in the constituency, saying: "What comes in the days and months in that regard are outside our control."

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has stepped down as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party with immediate effect after he was charged with historical sexual offences.

In a statement, the DUP said: "The party chairman has received a letter from Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP confirming that he has been charged with allegations of an historical nature and indicating that he is stepping down as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party with immediate effect.

"In accordance with the party rules, the party officers have suspended Sir Jeffrey from membership, pending the outcome of a judicial process.

"The party officers have this morning unanimously appointed Mr Gavin Robinson MP as the interim party leader."

Rishi Sunak looks to have seen off his backbenchers - at least for now.

The nascent rebellions have gone quiet in the past few weeks and the Commons is in its Easter recess, with MPs returning to Westminster on 15 April.

Time away from parliament normally strengthens - or at least prevents the further collapse - of a prime minister, as MPs disperse back to their constituencies and away from the plot-heavy fug of Westminster.

But a potential flashpoint is looming: May's local elections.

A particularly bad performance by the Tories could lead to fresh pressure on the PM's leadership and prove to be the catalyst for a concrete move to oust Mr Sunak.

Sky News explains how Tory MPs could get rid of the PM and - if they are successful - who would likely be in the running to replace him.

Over a year ago, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.

The prime minister met his promise to halve inflation by the end of 2023.

But with the general election approaching, how is Mr Sunak doing on delivering his other promises?

You can see the progress for yourself below.

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about different political parties.

As Labour launches its local elections campaign, it is still sitting comfortably on a roughly 19-point lead, averaging at 43.0% in the polls, with the Tories on 23.7%.

In third is Reform UK on 12.0%, followed by the Lib Dems on 10.2%.

The Green Party stands at 5.7%, and the SNP on 3.0%.

See the latest update below - and you can read more about the methodology behind the tracker  here .

There will most likely be a general election at some point in 2024, but we don't know exactly when.

We do know it won't happen on 2 May - when local elections will take place across England.

The prime minister's "working assumption" is that it will be held in the second half of this year - but beyond that we know very little about the precise timing.

So why is this the case?

Political correspondent Serena Barker-Singh  explains:

By Tim Baker , political reporter

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has been an ever-present feature of the political landscape in Northern Ireland for several decades.

But his leadership of the Democratic Unionist Party came to an end on 29 March, when it revealed Donaldson had resigned as chief after he was charged with sexual offences of a "historical nature".

Born in County Down in the 1960s, he was raised during the Troubles and has been a vocal campaigner for unionism throughout his life.

Donaldson came to the fore after the UK left the EU for his opposition to the Northern Ireland Protocol - which he believed undermined Northern Ireland's place in the United Kingdom.

Read about the 61-year-old's life in the profile below...

The DUP has weathered many storms, but this is a political earthquake for the party.

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson's departure under a cloud will have ramifications in both the short-term and long-term.

It will rock the newly established power-sharing government, of which the DUP forms one half.

And maintaining its seats at Westminster in the upcoming general election will be a mountain for the party to climb.

The DUP is well known for its conservative views on social issues like same-sex marriage.

Any whiff of impropriety, never mind alleged offence, leaves it open to allegations of hypocrisy.

In 2010, DUP leader Peter Robinson stepped down briefly as first minister when his wife confessed to an extra-marital affair.

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has not only resigned but had his party membership suspended, pending the outcome of the judicial process.

It's an inauspicious end to the political career of Northern Ireland's longest-serving member of parliament.

Northern Ireland first minister and Sinn Fein vice president Michelle O'Neill has released a statement in the wake of Sir Jeffrey Donaldson's resignation as DUP leader (see 12.56 post).

She said: "My priority is to continue to provide the leadership the public expect and deserve, and to ensure the four-party Executive coalition delivers for the whole of our community now and in the future.

"The DUP leader has resigned after being charged with serious offences.

"This is now a matter for the criminal justice system."

Biden’s Biggest Challenges to Reelection—Immigration, Gaza, and Even the Economy

Age isn’t the only hurdle for him to avoid becoming the 12th incumbent president to fail to win a second term.

Age isn’t the only hurdle for him to avoid becoming the 12th president to fail to win a second term

President Biden’s reelection campaign faces a heady array of challenges, including the age question (he’s 81) and the likely Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump. What will he have to do to avoid becoming the 2nd consecutive incumbent president (and 12th in history) to lose a bid for a second term?

Tops among the issues he has to tackle: immigration, Gaza, and the economy, all of which have shown up in the results of several early primaries.

With immigration and the war in Gaza, Biden appears to be caught in damned-if-he-does, damned-if-he-doesn’t scenarios, taking hits from both Republicans and many on the more liberal side of his own party. The robust economy is less of an issue for what may be wrong with it—not much, in most experts’ views—than for the fact that many Americans think it’s bad and refuse to give his administration any credit for its actual strength.

An incumbent (or previous) president has failed to win reelection 11 times in history, the last in 2020 when Trump lost to Biden. We asked some Boston University faculty experts in American politics and the presidency, foreign policy, and government affairs to assess how Biden can deal with these three key issues to avoid becoming the 12th.

  • Immigration

Trump and his minions are making plenty of hay out of what is, from any perspective, a big mess at our southern border, with thousands of migrants arriving every week from Central America and elsewhere.

Although Republican rhetoric is laced with racism and lies about the criminal character of the migrants, the sheer numbers of arrivals spreading out across the United States makes this a legit issue, and Biden seems to be hardening his approach. Many on the left, on the other hand, think asylum seekers deserve a more sympathetic response.

Thomas Whalen , a College of General Studies associate professor of social sciences, who specializes in 19th- and 20th-century American social and political history, says Biden isn’t the one to blame.

“I think here we see where the paralysis in Congress is having its greatest impact, because presidents can’t do everything under our constitutional order,” says Whalen, who has written several books on sports and society. “We don’t elect kings every four years. Biden is constrained by the rule of law, and Congress has shown a decided inability [or unwillingness] to act on this issue, at least on the Republican side. This is, from their point of view, a winning issue.”

Whalen notes that Republicans in both houses of Congress abandoned a bipartisan deal that was brokered earlier, because politically it would be damaging to their base, or at least cost the support of the base.

“To me this is the problem with American government right now,” Whalen says. “We are living in an ungovernable country, and it’s at a crisis point. He needs congressional action and he’s not gonna get it.”

The president might take extraordinary measures through executive order to close the border, he says, “but then he will be seen as desperate—it will be seen as a pure political move, and he’ll lose a good part of his liberal democratic base. So it’s a lose-lose on Biden’s part.”

The one thing he can do on the issue, Whalen says, is to follow President Harry Truman’s playbook from 1948 and run against a “do-nothing Congress.”

“‘American voters don’t care about foreign policy.’ That old line often gets thrown around at election time,” says Andrew David , a CGS lecturer in social science whose research interests include the US presidency and the history of US foreign policy. “Yet, the ‘uncommitted’ campaign in Michigan’s Democratic primary, which garnered 100,000 votes last month, was primarily driven by Biden’s Gaza policy.”

Gaza, David says, is “the classic foreign policy trap for an American president”: the expectation that American power can and should be used to solve a crisis, with pressure from opposing domestic groups to be more forceful in words and deeds. Some want Biden to support Israel unwaveringly after the October 7 Hamas terrorist offensive. Others, including more liberal Democrats, Arab Americans, and some Jews, want him to use every tool at his disposal to stop what they see as a genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Photo: A demonstrator raises an anti-Biden sign as thousands of people protest outside the Israeli Embassy against the planned ground invasion of Rafah, Gaza

A successful Biden-led cease-fire could ameliorate some of these concerns, but America lacks the clout in the region it had, going back to the 1970s, David says, and Biden’s efforts could address that, too.

“Better late than never, but Biden’s recent toughening stance against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu still can go a lot further, given the growing civilian body count in Gaza,” says Whalen.

“The president continues to tiptoe around the issue. Given all the military aid and public support he receives from the US, Netanyahu has no problem thumbing his nose at the Biden Administration. That kind of rank ingratitude needs to stop,” Whalen says. “I understand Biden does not want to alienate Jewish American voters, but in doing so, he’s alienating Arab-American voters, and also a huge swath of young Americans under 30.

“Alienating this new Generation Z, I think in some ways is an even greater threat, not just to Biden in 2024, but for the Democratic Party moving forward,” he says.

The Economy

Recent scholarship has stressed the relative limits on the ability of presidents to influence the economy, David says, “yet voters naturally link the status of the economy to presidential performance. That Biden doesn’t have more support because of this is surprising.”

The economy, by most metrics, is good. Unemployment remains low, a recession seems to have been avoided, and wage gains continue. Hesitation among voters on economic matters is understandable considering high inflation and interest rates. But the overall picture is good, and “it remains Biden’s job to prove the economy is strong,” David says.

Biden was quite impressive during his State of the Union address March 7, touching on key issues where “there’s a host of misinformation floating around about how much more improved the economy is under his presidency,” says Christine Slaughter , a College of Arts & Sciences associate professor of political science.

“In many ways, he set the record straight about the state of the economy, and the positive trends—such as the Black unemployment rate, which is at an all-time low , yet still nearly double the unemployment rate for whites —that are benefiting voters, specifically Black Americans and Latino Americans,” Slaughter says.

“Democrats have to continue to message those gains to voters, and they must use trusted messengers to deliver those messages to non-white voters, who have a slight decline in enthusiasm for supporting the Democratic ticket,” she says. “These messages should look different for young and older voters who are more or less entrenched in Democratic party politics.”

“It’s a bread-and-butter issue,” says Whalen. “People see it at the grocery store, the prices, and they see the prices of other domestic goods, like cars and so forth. And it kind of just eats away at their bottom line.

“But what people and what analysts don’t get right now is that wages are also rising,” he says. “The sting of inflation is slowly being rubbed away for many people in the middle class. So that might go in a positive direction for Biden. But the perception is now that, you know, the economy is still not recovered, not recovered sufficiently.”

Biden “is a horrible messenger, though. He has to get the message out there, but that’s where his age comes in, because he just doesn’t seem to have the energy to kind of do the whistle-stop tour that Truman did in 1948.”

Summing up:

After his victory in 2016, Trump received credit for running as a populist candidate—an advocate for the “little person,” David says. Statistics don’t suggest that was the reason he won, but both parties have positioned themselves as the champion of the average American.

“Biden seems to be taking a real stab at connecting rhetoric with reality,” he says. “The monthly distribution of child tax credit checks early in his administration and his effort to eliminate student debt both encountered some success. He recently became the first president to march with striking union workers. His efforts might help us more definitively say whether voters are as keen on rewarding action as they are to support rhetoric.”

But Slaughter says that to reach Black voters, whose support was key for Biden in 2020, it’s important to emphasize the absolute difference between the two (presumptive) major party candidates.

Ronald Reagan was underestimated too. Going into 1984, he was considered old and doddering too, and guess what happened there? Thomas Whalen

“Republicans have worked to demobilize the Black vote by blocking voting rights legislation . There have been many attempts to erode the protections of the Voting Rights Act, such as gerrymandering Black voters into districts, photo identification requirements, and denying organizations the right to challenge voter suppression legally ,” Slaughter says.

But while there’s a clear difference between the two parties, “Democrats have yet to fulfill many promises made in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in 2020,” she says. “There hasn’t been a successful police reform bill or federal oversight of law enforcement officers, and it seems like Democrats have all but retreated from the issue.”

“I think you have to take a lesson from 1984,” Whalen says. “Relatively late in the election cycle, Ronald Reagan was not doing so good. We were coming out of one of the worst recessions in modern memory, and it took a while for the public [to realize], but, you know, come election day, they voted for Reagan.

“It was a complete turnaround,” he says. “The economy makes the biggest difference of all. Inflation is still hanging around, prices are still unusually high, but if they get down a little bit more, like the price of gas, which has been going down overall the last few months, I think Biden will be in pretty good political shape, barring some other catastrophe.

“He’s probably following the Reagan political game plan here, which is basically, ‘the economy is doing well, and we’re gonna run on a prosperity platform.’ Biden was never really overwhelmingly popular in any race. He lost a couple of presidential bids, but in terms of Senate races, he always had long odds against him and he always pulled it off.

“I would not underestimate him,” Whalen says. “Ronald Reagan was underestimated too. Going into 1984, he was considered old and doddering too, and guess what happened there?”

There are 3 comments on Biden’s Biggest Challenges to Reelection—Immigration, Gaza, and Even the Economy

Biden’s biggest challenges are the results of his policies. He could be 20 years younger and having implemented the same policies, he’d be in the same situation.

I was surprised not to see a mention of Robert F Kennedy, Jr as one of Biden biggest threats. I am not a fan and a lot of people are lining up against him, but splitting the vote has to hurt one of the two candidates.

The DNC is trying hard to prevent RFK, Jr from running. This is not democracy. RFK is collecting signatures to be on the ballot as an independent candidate. Can’t wait to hear the debate between RFK, Biden, and Trump. Let’s have a civilized conversation about the future our this country.
