Angel’s Envy Distillery Began As A Family Business

Angel’s Envy began as a family business. The brand was the brain-child of Wes Henderson and his father, famed Master Distiller, Lincoln Henderson. Wes’ sons were also an integral part of the family business, working in various positions within the distillery when it opened. Father and son released their first products in 2011. Plans for a distillery soon followed, and in November 2016, Angel’s Envy became the first fully operational distillery back on Louisville’s Whiskey Row since prohibition.

Bacardi Limited Buys The Brand

An interesting twist, however, occurred in 2015. With the distillery not yet complete, the family sold the brand, as well as the distillery, to Bacardi Limited . The Henderson’s remained the face of Angel’s Envy as witnessed by our first visit back in 2019. However, on our most recent visit in early October 2023, no mention of the brand’s early days or its founders’ was discussed on the tour. The family and the company appear to have each gone their separate ways.

Angel’s Envy Whiskeys Are “Finished”

From the very beginning of the brand’s birth, the whiskeys were unique. Angel’s Envy bourbon and rye are both cask finished. This means that after aging in a new charred oak container, as is required for bourbon and rye, the spirit then spends additional time in port, rum, or other previously used barrels. This method allows the whiskey to acquire additional unique flavors, and thus sets Angel’s Envy apart from other Kentucky distilleries, since all of their spirits are finished. In today’s environment, this idea does not seem out of place by any means. However, in 2011, this sent quite the dismissive buzz for some time through the bourbon world in Kentucky.

Visitors Flock To Angel’s Envy Distillery

While the reception of Angel’s Envy finished whiskeys may have been frosty at first, visitors to the distillery were enjoying learning about the process and seeing first-hand what all the hub-bub was about. Tourism boomed at the distillery over the years, so much so that in June 2022, the company completed an $8.2 million expansion adding 13,000 square feet to its facility. The added space was designed specifically to accommodate and enhance the guest experience. It also would allow the distillery to double its annual visitor capacity. The addition included a larger retail area, new classroom style tasting rooms, an event space complete with an additional bar and full catering kitchen, and a dedicated room for the Bottle Your Own experience.

Angel’s Envy Tours, Tastings & Classes

Two walking tours continue to be the staple experiences offered at Angel’s Envy (as of October 2023): the Signature Tour, takes visitors through the distillery from grain to glass, while the Private Select Tour focuses on the barrel finishing process. Both tours conclude with a tasting. Other options when visiting the distillery are the educational tasting, Taste The Finish, as well as the Bottle Your Own Single Barrel (no tour, just the bottling experience). If the timing is right, visitors might opt for one of the monthly cocktail classes. Current classes (now through the end of the year) include the Manhattan Cocktail Class, the Rye Cocktail Class, and the Behind The Bar Cocktail Class. Tours (each tour has a maximum of 12 guests) and classes fill up quickly so reservations are HIGHLY recommended.

Our Tour Begins

Our tour began in a spacious reception area just off to the side of the welcome desk. We followed our guide, Dean, behind the double doors where our introduction to Anglel’s Envy began. A large muraled wall behind Dean recounts some history of the brand, including the Henderson name. However, Dean’s intro focused on 2 areas. First that which makes Angel’s Envy different, the finishing of their bourbon and rye, and second he quickly recapped the rules regarding the making of bourbon.

Onward To The Distillery

After the introduction, we proceeded into the distillery, starting first on the upper level, which is accessible by either stairs or elevator. Upon our arrival on the second floor, we were met by the tops of eight enormous fermenters, each having a 13,565 gallon capacity.  Through the windows on the left Dean pointed out 4 grain silos and a large black metal container which houses the hammer mill.

Moving past the fermenters to the opposite end of the distillery, we reached a hands on display consisting of a large round trough containing corn, rye and malted barley. Dean explained the different grains used at Angel’s Envy as well as the percentages of each used (known as the mash bill). For the bourbon, this is 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley. Coincidentally this is the same mash bill used at Old Forester. Perhaps this is not too surprising since Lincoln Henderson retired after 40 years from Brown-Forman, the owner of Old Forester.

After learning that all grains are ground on-site with the hammer mill, our attention was then directed to the sole cooker or mash tun. Dean described the process very precisely. First 1800 gallons of backset from the previous batch is combined with 8500 gallons of water in the cooker. To this liquid, 22,000 lbs of corn is added and cooked at 210 degrees for approximately an hour and a half. This corn mash then is cooled down to 170 degrees in order to add the rye. Rye does not behave well at temperatures any higher. This blend is then cooked for another hour and a half where once again the mixture is cooled, this time to 150 degrees. Finally, the last grain, malted barley, is added to the cook. Total cook time per batch is about 8 hours. Angel’s Envy squeezes in 3 batches a day. That’s a lot of corn!

The Fermenters

We then backtracked to the fermenters where a more in depth discussion of the fermentation process took place as well as some tasting of the fermenting mash. Dean explained that once the cook is complete and the mash cooled down to between 70-90 degrees, it’s transferred to the fermenter. Once there, 44lbs of yeast is then added. He further elaborated that the current fermentation time is 3 days. Surprisingly this is now a day less than our first visit in 2019, when fermentation time was 4 days.

When the yeast reaches a standstill converting the sugars in the mash to alcohol, it’s time for distillation. The fermented mash then heads to the beer well, its glorified holding tank, where it awaits its trip through the still. The still is a 35 foot tall, 28 inch diameter Vendome Copper & Brass Works column still, which spans the two floors of the distillery. Sitting next to it is the doubler, used to further increase the proof of the low wine coming off of the column still. On our visit, Angel Envy’s still was not in operation, however Dean briefly summarized how it works. A sample of the new make followed, accompanied by an interesting “clap and sniff” demonstration.

It’s Time To Fill Some Barrels

From the still, we headed back downstairs to the barrel fill room. Dean first pointed out the 2 impossible to miss 2500 gallon spirit gaging tanks. They hold the freshly distilled spirit (or “new make” as it is called) prior to barreling. On our previous visit we learned the feet on these tanks are on scales, allowing the distillers to know the exact amount contained in them at any time. Barreling takes place on the far side of this room. Around 120 barrels are filled each day with new make which is proofed down to just under 125 proof before it enters the barrel. Barrel aging takes place off-site at Angel’s Envy’s rickhouses in Henry County, KY.

The Dump Room

After barreling, our next stop was the dump room. Just as the name suggests, here barrels are emptied or “dumped”. Since bourbon (or rye) at Angel’s Envy spends time in two different barrels, each spirit will pass through this room twice. The first time, to be dumped from its original new oak container, after 4-6 years for the bourbon and after 6-7 years for the rye. The second time, to be dumped from the finishing barrel. The bourbon finishes in the ruby port barrel for approximately 6 months, while the rye finishes in the Caribbean rum barrels for 12-18 months. Once finishing is all said and done, 30-50 barrels are blended for each batch of Angel’s Envy bourbon.

The Angel’s Envy Distillery Bottling Line

So far we had seen the grain from its milling, to cooking, then fermentation, and of course distillation. Don’t forget the barreling, aging, then rebarreling for finishing. So how do we take it home? Yes, bottling was our final stop on the grain to glass Signature Tour. On the way from barreling to the dump room we had breezed by the automated bottling line. It  moved at a mesmorizing speed and it was tempting to linger and soak it all in. Dean however promised we would have the chance to see it operate. We were not disappointed.

According to Dean, not that long ago, bottling at Angel’s Envy Distillery was done by hand. No more, however, as this Italian bottling line sports 3 stations to get the job done. Station 1 rinses each bottle with the product being bottled, not water. Station 2 fills each bottle. Lastly, Station 3 corks, caps, and labels each bottle. In addition, he pointed out that the bottles used by Angel’s Envy are produced in India. This is due to the uncommon practice of their bottles being joined with the seams along the side. Dean explained that not many companies can do this. Take a look at an Angel’s Envy bottle sometime. The seam on the side is certainly noticeable, once you know it’s there.

Time To Taste Angel’s Envy’s Whiskeys

With the grain to glass part of the tour complete, the time had come for the for the grain to our glass portion of the tour. Tastings for both the Signature Tour and the Private Select Tour take place back on the second floor in the one of new(er) tasting classrooms. A quiet nod to the founding family was acknowledged by the naming of each room, the Henderson, the Lincoln, and the Wes.

Here we sampled the Angel’s Envy Port Finished Bourbon, twice. First “neat” and then with ice, so that we could taste the difference between the two. The bourbon was followed by a sample of the Angel’s Envy Caribbean Rum Finished Rye. A tasty chocolate was provided with both the bourbon and the rye to elevate the tasting experience by helping to uncover more flavor nuances from each whiskey. Along the way, Dean provided various tasting tips and techniques to aid us in getting the most from each sample.

Now, It’s Time For A Cocktail

Empty glasses and savored chocolates signaled the end of our tour. Our time, however, was not quite finished, as we then stepped over to the area adjacent to the tasting rooms, called the Finishing Room. The Finishing Room is a very cool bar where each guest is allowed to purchase a cocktail and/or tastings of individual products. I enjoyed “The Henderson”, which is the distillery’s signature cocktail, and their take on an Old Fashioned. After our drinks, our visit ended as we headed back down to the beautiful gift shop area. There’s much to peruse, from clothing to whiskey to barware and more. Make sure there’s time left to shop!

Conclusion – Angel’s Envy Distillery Tour

While shopping at any distillery is always enjoyable, Angel’s Envy Distillery offers so much more. A world of distilling schooling as well as cocktail crafting lies waiting to be discovered. While Louisville’s urban bourbon trail has many choices, Angel’s Envy Distillery definitely stands at the top of the list!

Angel’s Envy

Angel's Envy Wings

The 5% of spirit lost each year during barrel aging is called the “Angel’s Share,” and after tasting the finished whiskey, founding Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson joked that he’d finally gotten a better deal than the angels. And with that, ANGEL’S ENVY was born.

ANGEL’S ENVY is always exploring new ways to innovate and push boundaries and starts with finely crafted and aged whiskeys. After they age the whiskey in new, charred oak barrels, it is placed into a secondary “finishing” cask to add complexity and maintain a nuanced, yet approachable flavor profile.

In 2016, ANGEL’S ENVY opened the first full production whiskey distillery along Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville. Today, the team continues to produce its award-winning whiskeys on Main Street and welcomes guests each day to see how we make ANGEL’S ENVY and then taste why.

Get a sneak peak at the new $8.2 million expansion at Louisville's Angel's Envy Distillery

angel's envy bourbon tours

Angel’s Envy Distillery had been open in downtown Louisville for over a year and was welcoming thousands of people to its 500 E. Main St. location for tours each month.

But there was a problem.

There were also thousands being turned away.

Visitors would walk through the door expecting to snag a tour only to learn the day was booked, and likely so was the day after.

The distillery couldn’t accommodate about 50,000 people in its first full fiscal year in operation in 2017-2018, said Dee Ford, general manager of Angel's Envy Brand Home.

"It was painful," Ford said. "You've invested in this property, and you want to tell the story, and you can't take everyone."

Facing the temptation of simply adding more bodies on the 12-person tour to increase capacity, the brand said no. They wanted the experience to stay small, intimate.

It was then the idea for a massive expansion was born and a plan developed for a vision of a bigger, more accommodating, Louisville space.

Four years, one important green-light, 300-some workers and a few supply chain delays later, that vision is now a reality. The $8.2 million, 13,000-square-foot expansion is nearly finished.

You may like: One-of-a-kind experience: Why $40M project is a game-changer for Kentucky bourbon industry

The distillery’s eastward and southward expansion will allow double the number of visitors, an additional 64,000 people, to tour the first full-production whiskey distillery in downtown Louisville.

But the new "right-sized" space, Ford hopes, shouldn't mean a less intimate experience.

“We purposely opened and started with 12,” Ford said. “And we stayed committed to that number as we have expanded because we recognize that's key to who we are. Personal, build a relationship.”

The Courier Journal took a look inside the expanded distillery, including five new tasting rooms, an expanded gift shop and a new events space (for both private rentals and the expected return of cocktail classes).

Many of these areas are part of the distillery’s main tour, including a fresh starting point for the tour. Here's what else you'll see inside Angel's Envy expanded space:

New features stand out on Angel's Envy classic tour

For those who’ve been on the distillery tour before, the refreshed walk-through will feel similar — with several new or expanded spaces and some “surprise and delight” along the way, Ford said.

The distillery’s hour-long, reservation-only “signature tour” ($25) used to start off in the building’s foyer, which at times was crowded and loud — not the ideal place to orient tour-goers.

Visitors will now begin their tour in an airy room with a large bronze-decaled mural teaching them about the family behind the brand.

Growth has been swift for the Louisville-based finished whiskey distiller, co-founded in 2010 by the late master distiller Lincoln Henderson and his son, Wes Henderson.

You may like: Angel's Envy in downtown Louisville is run by generations of this family

The distiller broke ground on its downtown distillery in 2013, renovating the former American Elevator & Machine and the American Saw & Tool companies.

It was then bought by Bacardi Limited in 2015, opened its distillery in 2016 and is now ready to open its expansion , which adds 20 employees to the Angel's Envy team.

After visitors hear about the brand’s relatively short history, the mural also stresses what makes Angel’s Envy stand out on a crowded Whiskey Row  — after the bourbon is aged and blended, it’s finished in port casks, while its rye is finished in Caribbean rum casks.

With that knowledge, guests are then led into the distillery space through a new means: a pair of 10-foot-tall doors that swing open as if on their own, inviting guests into the active production space, an area Ford said some refer to as the cathedral.

It’s easy to see why entering the high-ceilinged room with its long, dramatic arched windows. A wave of heat hits, as does a slightly sweet aroma, as if something is baking.

“Like your grandmother pulled out fresh cornbread out of the oven,” Ford said.

Tour-goers experience the room from the ground floor, standing among the many large silver fermenter tanks.

The tour continues along the production process until it’s time to taste test. That leads visitors into one of the new tasting rooms, each named after a different aspect or person in the brand.

You may like: From father to grandson, how this family built Angel's Envy bourbon from the ground up

They're cozy, but private, enough for the 12 tour-goers and their guide, who walks them through tasting bourbon and rye, each paired with a different chocolate from Louisville-based Art Eatables .

The copper column still in the distillery space is echoed in the lighting elements of the tasting rooms, where rippled bands of copper and toasted barrel staves are suspended in light fixtures above.

Tastings used to be in an area Ford referred to as “grand central station.”

All tastings would happen there, but so would the post-tour opportunity to try the spirit in a cocktail from the bar. And if there were private events booked, the space would need to be converted for those. In short, it could get crowded.

The new tasting rooms allow for a more controlled experience, and the former space remains for the optional post-tour cocktail.

It’s a more private experience, one that the brand hopes will translate into brand loyalty and a bit of proselytizing down the road.

“When people come here and they get that education and they get the experience at Angel's Envy, and they go to the bar and … you see Angel’s Envy on the bar, they're gonna be drawn to it because they can tell their friends the story,” Ford said. “All of a sudden you're the expert and not just picking a random bottle of bourbon off the shelf.”

The tasting rooms have been receiving visitors on the signature tour for the past few weeks, and the full new and improved tour should be ready in the coming weeks, Ford said.

You may like: Four decades of bourbon: Meet the man who's worked at all of Heaven Hill's distilleries

The expanded second floor also features a new event space, called the toasting room, complete with a bar and catering kitchen.

Mike Bohn, bar manager at Angel’s Envy, has been with the brand for more than four years and said he now has the space he's long desired.

"We've had a few events in this space now, and this bar is like a dream," Bohn said, adding that out-of-town guests (91% of signature tour takers are from outside Kentucky) have commented on the beautiful views of Main Street, Louisville Slugger Field and the bridges.

"Everything that we needed, we have now," he said.

Heading downstairs, the main part of the expansion yet to be finished is a dedicated room for the “Bottle Your Own” experience, which launched a few years ago and invites the public on a specialized tour (expected to start bookings later this summer) that allows them to fill, label and seal their own bottle of higher-proof single barrel bourbon.

Visitors can then exit, yes, through a gift shop that’s tripled in size, with expanded glassware and clothing offerings.

But Ford said she hopes people leave with more than just merchandise.

“Everyone has a story about bourbon,” she said. “And if they don’t, we’re going to be their story.”

Our guide, Kelsey, was very knowledgeable on the history of the building and how bourbon is made. The tour ended with a sampling with some chocolate. We were shown how to taste the bourbon, and we understood how tasting works on your taste buds. Even bought a T-shirt in the gift shop for only $25. • Python574 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Fun tour! Distillery tours can be hit or miss, but the hope is that you get a good amount of history, be able to explore where the spirits are made, and get a fun tasting afterwards. Angel's Envy hit all 3 marks. The tour was very fun, educational, and it was great to see how they renovated a history building and turned it into something new (it was used as a manufacturing plant for many years). Dawnsheika was our tour guide and she was a hoot and kept everyone having a good time. The most fun thing on the tour was the ability to taste the mash while it was still fermenting, which is not something we've seen on a distillery or brewery tour. Our tasting was very good as well and the bourbon and rye paired well with the chocolates they provided. There's plenty of parking outside of the distillery and a large gift shop for swag. It's a fun place overall and we enjoyed our tour! Read more Written November 15, 2023
  • Hopjim 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great tour - highly recommended. Spent 5 days traveling to various distilleries and ths had one of the best tours. If you want to learn about the bourbon making process, the size of this distillery lends itself to a great, very informative tour. While other distilleries do a good job, you can walk throughout the Angels Envy building, seeing much more than in the larger brands. Able to walk to all parts of Whiskey Row. • 519joanng 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles We drink the Bourbon at home....but Let down on the 'tour'. We booked the Private Select Tour to commemorate some special occasions. The tour guide was difficult to hear 80% of the tour. The tour itself was a zigzag/up down in the same confines of the vat space. The tasting itself felt too contrived, rushed and 'commercial' in comparison to other tasting tours we did on this excursion on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. We had more fun and better experiences - for free, and at lesser costs at other distilleries. Read more Written October 7, 2023

If you’re a fan of the brand’s cask-finished bourbons, you’re in luck — their distillery offers two one-of-a-kind tours focused on varying aspects of the whiskey industry.

We’ll discuss everything there is to know about the Angel’s Envy Tour, so you know what to expect.

About Angel’s Envy Tour

Angel’s Envy Distillery

The Angel’s Envy Tour offers two separate tours with varying experiences, so patrons can decide for themselves which one they’re more interested in. It first opened its doors to the public in 2016.

The Signature Tour is all about touring Angel’s Envy distillery cathedral and bringing visitors to the heart of their operations from start to finish.

The Bottle Your Own Tour is for guests who are more interested in a hands-on experience of making bourbon .

Their in-house experts chose select barrels specifically for this exciting activity, with visitors filling, corking, and labeling their own bottle of Angel’s Envy Single Barrel.

This tour is also highly educational, as you’ll learn a lot about the bottling process and how it became the standard in America. They’ll also let you in on their thought process behind their distinctive bottle design.

Angel’s envy envy -->

Angel's Envy is a brand of bourbon whiskey that was founded by Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes Henderson in 2010. It is known for its unique aging process and distinctive flavor profile. Angel's Envy is produced in Louisville, Kentucky, which is often referred to as the bourbon capital of the world. What sets Angel's Envy apart from other bourbons is its finishing process. After the bourbon has been aged in new charred oak barrels, it is transferred to port wine casks for an additional period of time. This secondary aging in port barrels gives Angel's Envy its distinct flavor characteristics, including notes of ripe fruit, caramel, and vanilla. The brand offers a few different expressions of bourbon, including their flagship Angel's Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which is aged for a minimum of four years. They also have a cask strength version, called Angel's Envy Cask Strength, which is bottled at a higher proof and offers a more intense flavor experience. Angel's Envy has gained a reputation for producing high-quality bourbons that appeal to both bourbon enthusiasts and newcomers to the spirit. It has received numerous accolades and awards for its craftsmanship and unique flavor profile. Welcoming Louisville’s Angel’s Envy Distillery to The Kentucky Bourbon Trail®

Welcoming Louisville’s Angel’s Envy Distillery to The Kentucky Bourbon Trail®

(Note: The following post was originally published in Feb. 2017 and updated in Oct. 2017)

On a recent Monday afternoon, reporters, camera crews, politicians and members of Kentucky’s bourbon industry all gathered on Main Street in downtown Louisville across the street from Slugger Field to celebrate another bourbon milestone. The excitement was palpable. For many, this was the first visit to the Angel’s Envy Distillery since it had opened for operation and tours late last year. It was hard to believe that this gorgeous distillery, the result of a $27 million dollar multi-year project, was the same massive building that had housed the empty shell of The Vermont American Tool Company for decades. The big news of the day was that Angel’s Envy had officially joined The Kentucky Bourbon Trail ® becoming the 10 th member distillery to join since 1999.

The Angel’s Envy Grand Opening

Mayor Greg Fischer took the podium and spoke enthusiastically of continuing to strengthen Louisville’s place as the gateway to The Kentucky Bourbon Trail ®. The distillery is the first new bourbon brand to join the program in over two years since The Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Experience came onboard in 2014. The announcement comes on the heels of yet another record year for attendance for distilleries. In 2016, visitors eager to take part in the modern bourbon boom logged over 1,000,000 stops at distilleries along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail ® and Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour ®. With the addition of an Angel’s Envy (and the expansion of the Bourbon Trail Passports to include another page eager for a stamp) that number that is likely to increase.

The excitement for a permanent home for Angel’s Envy has been building for years. The massive facility underwent a long, enormous transformation that started with a groundbreaking by then Governor Steve Beshear in September 2013 . But before that, the brand itself captured the attention of whiskey aficionados and casual sippers in 2011 when Angel’s Envy entered the market offering an intriguing industry first: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that had been finished in port wine barrels for several weeks.

The stunning glass bottle curved like a pair of angel’s wings certainly helped capture some eyeballs as well. Today the distillery offers tours, tastings, a gift shop and a chance to take home a bottle of their Angel’s Envy Bourbon, Rye (uniquely finished in rum barrels) and Cask Strength Bourbon. As an added bonus, guests can even personalize their bourbon with a date, message or name engraved on the bottle. Finally, a whiskey named after you !

Tour of Angel’s Envy

A tour of Angel’s Envy takes you through a distillery that is modern, industrial and beautiful in its simplicity. Knowledgeable guides, many of whom have extensive experience with bourbon, proudly show off every step of the distilling process from the mash tanks, to the gorgeous Vendome still and the unique finishing room. Along the way, century-old walls are adorned with graphics regarding the art and science of distilling. The distillery is open for tours Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 AM (1:00 PM on Sundays) with the last tour at 4:00 PM. Note that tour groups are usually limited to a smaller size than other distilleries, so booking online in advance is requested.

Like other stops on The Kentucky Bourbon Trail ®, Angel’s Envy offers their own signature experience and unique take on America’s native spirit. And, of course, each tour ends with a guided tasting on the second-floor bar area. After all, what would a bourbon tour be without a bourbon tasting? As we enter a new era for Louisville distilleries not seen in over 95 years since the days before prohibition, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer Wes Henderson summed up his new home on Main Street best: “I think we have a special place…as one of the only full production facilities downtown. But we’re just one piece of an incredible pie.”

As one of Kentucky’s top destination management company, Mint Julep Tours can create the perfect itinerary for your bourbon adventure. A stop to Angel’s Envy can be added to any personal custom tour. Call 502-583-1433 to begin planning your adventure and get more information on custom experiences

In spirits production, the small percentage that evaporates during barrel aging is known as "the angel's share." After master distiller Lincoln Henderson founded this full-scale distillery in downtown Louisville in 2010, he reportedly said that if what was lost was the angel's share, then what remained was their envy. Specialties here include bourbon finished in port and Japanese whisky barrels, and a rye aged in cider casks. There are three tours offered, as well as a tasting experience without a tour and a chance to fill, cork, and label your own bottle.

Angel’s envy kicks off manhattan week in the uk.

Bacardi-owned American whiskey distiller Angel’s Envy has teamed up with bars around London and Edinburgh to celebrate the Manhattan cocktail.

Angel's Envy

Running until Wednesday 21 February, more than 21 bars in the two cities will be making a riff on the cocktail using Angel’s Envy Bourbon – with each drink priced from £10.50 (US$13).

A Manhattan is typically made with three ingredients: whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. Both Bourbon and rye are commonly used.

Sophia Rosser, UK brand ambassador for Angel’s Envy Bourbon Whiskey, said: “Consumers are drinking less and better – more premium spirits and higher-quality, crafted drinks (according to the 2024 Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report).

“The Manhattan is an enduring favourite of bartenders and cocktail drinkers alike. It is simple and delicate, and lends itself perfectly to a premium Bourbon, such as Angel’s Envy. Our Bourbon is finished in ruby port barrels, pairing harmoniously with Manhattan’s other main ingredient, sweet vermouth, and providing the perfect canvas for small twists and variations.

“In a Manhattan, the flavours of the Bourbon take the lead and shine through, which is why the complexity and depth of flavour you get with Angel’s Envy makes it perfect for this classic cocktail.”

The participating bars in London are:

  • A Blue Whale in The Bar
  • Cocktail Trading Co
  • Discount Suit Co
  • Equal Parts
  • Low Country Bar
  • Raffles London at The OWO
  • Royal Automobile Club
  • The Donovan Bar, Brown’s Hotel
  • Shoreditch Arts Club
  • The Hoxton, Holborn
  • K Bar, The Kensington Hotel

In the Edinburgh, bars include:

  • Bon Vivant Restaurant
  • Commons Club
  • Duck & Waffle
  • Lady Libertine
  • Lucky Liquor Co
  • Panda & Sons
  • The Devil’s Advocate

Last month, Angel’s Envy re-released three limited edition Bourbons from its Cellar Collection Series ; finished in tawny Port wine barrels, oloroso Sherry casks and Madeira casks.

The brand also named Owen Martin as its master distiller last year, who switched from Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey.
