How to design your band tour schedule in 5 steps

If you’re ready to hit the road with your band and spread your music across the region (or maybe even different countries!) then you’ll have to plan out every intricate detail. To successfully execute a tour, you will need to have some money saved up to fund it, consider transportation costs, book venues, and map out a route.

However, figuring out the logistics is just the tip of the musical iceberg. After organizing, you need to start focusing on marketing. This is what will ensure that your shows stay booked and the buzz never dies down. The way your band presents itself in the public eye is everything that matters (after your wonderful music, of course!).

In this blog we will give you a complete guide to design your own band tour schedule as professionally as possible so it gives off just the impression it needs to. We promise it’s easier than it sounds!

Step 1: Choose the right vibe

Before you dive into designing, it always helps to have a clear mental picture of what you want your band to be perceived as. In simple gen-z terms: what’s the vibe?

If you have a rock band then you may want to use a more intense music program template, and if it’s an indie band then perhaps a more mellow theme is what you would want to go for. Once you have a general idea, it will become much easier to create a design. A design can be for a social media post, ticket, story, or even a flyer, but for now we’re just focusing on your tour schedule.

Step 2: Pick a template from our library

Like we mentioned before, planning a tour costs money. You want to be cutting costs wherever you can manage and if you can make do without hiring a full time graphic designer, then why not become self sufficient? You can surf through thousands of band tour schedule templates on PosterMyWall and pick any design that fits your theme.

Remember to work smart where working hard might cost you extra. PosterMyWall’s template gallery has a huge variety of band flyer templates, concert poster templates, and anything that you might need to market your tour properly.

Step 3: Customize it with event details

Once your template has been picked out, we come to the part where you make it your own: personalization!

The purpose of creating a tour schedule is to give people enough information to choose to show up. They don’t just need to know who is performing, they also need to know when it’s happening, where the venue is, what the timings are, and perhaps even what songs they will be performing (you can just create a separate setlist for this).

Customize your design with tour details and keep things simple and to the point. Here’s a template with complete details for a concert that you could use as a reference.

Step 4: Adjust the color scheme and more

Customizing doesn’t just mean adding information. You might come across a design that is almost perfect – in that case you can make it perfect yourself!

If you want to switch up the color scheme then you can pick an exact shade replacement using one of three ways:

  • Enter the exact hex code of the color you want in your design
  • Drag the cursor freehand along the color gradient and pick whatever color appeals you
  • There’s a section in the editor that shows main colors already used in a design (in case you want a color that’s in an image or graphic)

Once you have your color scheme sorted, you can adjust other elements in the design. Here are some pointers that might help:

  • If you can’t find a font that suits your needs you can upload your own font.
  • Play around with adding shapes and stickers (but not too many!)
  • Add scannable QR codes to link people directly to signup forms.
  • Remember to keep the font readable and the design not too crowded.

Step 5: Save and download your design

After you are satisfied with your design, it’s time to download and circulate!

Save the changes on your band tour schedule and download the file. We recommend downloading in JPG but if PDF is what you need then go for that. The file will be saved in high resolution, that’s for sure.

You can choose to circulate this schedule digitally or even print out a few copies and put them up on notice boards – the logistics are completely up to you and how well you know your audience. But whatever you choose, you will be doing it with a stellar design!

Wrapping it up

If you are cool enough to be in your own band, we know you also have what it takes to market it to a cool audience.

At the end of the day you will be spreading joy through your music and bringing people together with each new venue that you hit. Remember to just have fun while you’re at it.
