Silver Muse was the first Muse-class vessel in the Silversea Cruises fleet. It is a next-generation luxury cruise ship – artfully inspired and ideal for those who enjoy great dining and elegant surroundings. This Silver Muse review rates all aspects of the cruise ship and also includes video tours as well as insiders tips so you can make the most of your time on board.

  • Bigger, more luxurious suites.
  • All beverages included.
  • Great range of dining options.
  • Faux teak verandas.

The Silver Muse deck plan is easy to get around. There are a total of 8 passenger decks, the highest of which is deck 11.

  • Reception : Deck 5
  • Accommodation : Decks 4 to 11
  • Main dining room : Deck 4
  • Theatre : Deck 5
  • Observation lounge : Deck 11

Silver Muse was built and launched in Italy in April 2017. She is the ninth ship in the Silversea Cruises fleet. Silver Muse is also the first in a new, more spacious Muse-class of ultra-luxury cruise ship.

The Silver Muse cruise ship is bigger than most of the other vessels in the Silversea Cruises fleet . In fact, she is 212 m. / 698 ft. in length with room for 596 guests. That is 56% more than the intimate  Silver Whisper , but about the same as Silver Spirit .

This beautiful cruise ship has a sense of understated luxury. Indeed, Silversea call it ‘whispered luxury’. That is to say it is refined, but never pretentious.

As you will see from this Silver Muse review, everything about the cruise ship has an unmistakable Silversea style. The decor has Italian sophistication and there is modern artwork at every turn.

Guests enjoy all-suite accommodation and almost every suite has its own private veranda. The larger suites even have separate bedrooms and spa-style bathrooms. There are nine room types to chose from. The largest of these are the Silver Suites , Royal Suites and spacious Grand Suites. In addition, there are the top of the range Owner’s Suites .

However the Veranda Suites are the most popular. These include Classic, Superior and Deluxe categories. It’s worth noting that they are all the same size, only their location on the ship varies. This Silver Muse review includes a video tour of a Veranda Suite . There are also Panorama and Vista Suites which do not have verandas.

The Silver Muse cruise ship has eight restaurants to choose from including an al fresco pizzeria and French fine dining. However, there is no main dining room.

The luxury ship also boasts a range of recreation and wellness options, including one of the longest swimming pools at sea and a fully equipped gym. The Zagara spa also offers a range of indulgent beauty treatments and massage therapies.

It’s worth noting that during my sailing the service was outstanding. There are roughly two staff members for every three guests.

As you will see from my Silver Muse review, the ultra-luxury Silversea experience has been is now even better.

There are eight different restaurants to choose from, so the toughest decision of the day is likely to be where to dine. This Silver Muse review details each of the restaurants .

Indeed, Silver Muse is a haven for foodies. The quality and presentation in all the restaurants is generally excellent. And now caviar is back on the menu too.

Interestingly, there is no main dining room. However, the Atlantide restaurant seems to have assumed this mantle. In fact, the popular venue has become pivotal to the onboard dining scene. The menu is mostly European and changes every three days.

There is also La Terrazza, Silversea’s iconic Italian restaurant. On the Silver Muse cruise ship it continues to produce some of the best pasta dishes anywhere.

The La Dame speciality restaurant costs extra.

La Dame is one of two specialty restaurants. The intimate venue has a mouthwatering French menu which is not to be missed. The other specialty restaurant is Kaiseki where master chefs serve exquisite Japanese teppanyaki.

Indochine is a new pan-Asian offering. It serves some delightful dishes from across the Asian continent.

There is also Silver Note, a jazz-style supper club that pairs small-plate dishes with great music until late.

The dining repertoire is rounded out by two al fresco venues. There is Spaccanapoli – an authentic Naples-style pizzeria – as well as the poolside Grill where guests can BBQ food on hot lava stones.

My Silver Muse review rates each restaurant. I also include video tours so you can see what they are really like.

What’s included Silver Muse?

Like all the luxurious ships in the Silversea Cruises fleet, Silver Muse is all-inclusive. Indeed, Silversea have inclusions like no other cruise line.

Butler service is included for every guest, it’s a real treat.

Your cruise fare also includes dining in all but two speciality restaurants: La Dame and Kaiseki both have a supplement (US$60 per person and US$40 per person respectively).

Also included is an extensive selection of new and old-world wines, champagne and top-shelf spirits. When I sailed the house champagne was Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top Brut. It was a lovely drop.

Insiders tip: You can purchase additional premium alcoholic beverages from the Connoisseurs list, but on my Silver Muse review voyage the house offerings were excellent.

Also included in the cruise fare are specialty teas and coffees.

Gratuities are also part of your cruise fare which means tipping is not necessary. However, at the end of your cruise you might like to leave your room attendant or butler a small reward for great service.

Transfers from the port into town are included as well. It’s another of the many Silversea inclusions. Free bottled water is also available to take ashore, but we encourage you to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles .

Also included in the cruise fare are luxury European bath products from Bvlgari.

The Silver Muse dress code is more traditional than on other luxury cruise lines. It ranges from casual to formal depending on the time of day.

In public areas the dress code is smart resort-wear during the day. After dark the Silver Muse dress code will be either casual , informal or formal :

  • Casual : For men casual-wear means open-neck shirts and slacks, while for ladies it’s pants, blouses, skirts and casual dresses.
  • Informal : Informal wear includes jackets for men (tie optional) and dresses or pantsuits for ladies.
  • Formal : On formal nights men should wear a Tuxedo or dark suit and ladies should wear an evening gown.

The Daily Chronicles newsletter will advertise the Silver Muse dress code.

The number of formal nights will depend on the length of your voyage. Cruises of less than 10 days have one formal night, cruises between 10 and 13 days have two, while longer cruises have three formal evenings.

On formal nights guests can choose informal wear for dining in La Terrazza, Kaiseki or Silver Note. Although during my Silver Muse review voyage most guests enjoyed dressing up.

The Grill and Spaccanapoli always permit casual wear.

The Silver Muse cruise ship is very popular, no matter where in the World she sails. Indeed, guests have seen the World and they are generally discerning. They typically range in age from 35 to 70-years old.

Sometimes there may be families with children on board. There is a dedicated kids club to cater for this on certain sailings. However, the cruise ship is not especially child-friendly.

On my Silver Muse review voyage most guests were from the U.S.A, Australia and the U.K, but Canadians and Europeans were also on board.

It’s also worth noting that Silver Muse is gay-friendly.

Silver Muse has a sense of understated Italian luxury, with elegant public areas and incredibility spacious suites. The eight restaurants offer outstanding dining, the entertainment is superb and the extra-long pool is like an oasis at sea. Combined with the all-inclusive lifestyle and outstanding service it’s the perfect cruise experience.

About the Ship: the Silversea Silver Muse

silver muse excursions

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises launched the 596-guest Silver Muse in April 2017, and the luxury ship has eight passenger decks and many features that past Silversea guests and new cruise travelers will love. First, the almost-all inclusive ship has 411 crew members, so the service is outstanding. Every spacious stateroom is a suite and has a designated butler and all the amenities expected from this luxury line. The ship's eight  dining venues include 28 varieties of culinary delights, so multiple selections are available at every meal. In addition, the indoor and outdoor common areas are fashionable and relaxing, with interesting decor and artwork. Finally, the Silver Muse sails worldwide itineraries to fascinating destinations where its guests can interact and hear about different cultures, make life-long memories, and learn more about the world around them while staying in the ship's luxury environment.

Standard Suites on the Silver Muse

All 286 suites on the Silver Muse have butler service; twin or queen-sized bed configuration; bed-side USB ports for charging electronic devices; a refrigerator and bar setup stocked with guest preferences; premium bath amenities; fine bed linens and down duvet covers; a choice of pillow types; bathrobes and slippers; personalized stationery; binoculars; umbrella; daily newspaper; large flat screen television with interactive media library; twice daily suite service; and at least one hour complimentary WiFi internet access each day per guest.

Veranda Suites

Of the 286 suites onboard, the Silver Muse has 230 suites classified as Classic Veranda, Superior Veranda, or Deluxe Veranda.  The three types of veranda suites are identical in size, configuration, and amenities, but the price differs based on location. Each veranda suite has 387 square feet, including a 64 square foot veranda. Veranda Suites are located on decks 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Travelers will appreciate the spacious walk-in closet, marble bath with separate tub and shower, sitting area, two television systems, and the butler and room service. Each Veranda Suite guest receives one-hour of free Wi-Fi service each day.

Six Veranda Suites connect to the Royal or Grand Suites, making them two-bedroom accommodations for families.

Vista Suites

The Silver Muse has six Vista Suites on deck 4. Three of the suites are wheelchair accessible. These 240-square foot suites have a large window and sitting area but do not have a veranda. They have a shower with a seat, but no bathtub. The rest of the amenities are the same as seen in other suite categories.

Panorama Suites

The Silver Muse has six Panorama Suites on deck 9. These suites measure 334 square feet but have a large picture window instead of a veranda. Since two of the Panorama Suites connect to a Silver Suite and the other four of the Panorama Suites connect to an Owner's Suite, families can book both suites for a two-bedroom accommodation.

Large Suites on the Silver Muse

In addition to the standard suites, the Silver Muse has four different categories of larger suites. Each provides all the amenities found in the standard suites, but also include large sitting area with a dining table and chairs, separate bedroom with dressing table, large walk-in closet, bathroom with double sinks, separate tub and shower, powder room, espresso machine, two 55-inch television systems (smaller suites have 42-inch), and Bose Sound Touch 30 with Bluetooth connectivity. All of these larger suites also include unlimited WiFi.

Silver Suites

The 34 Silver Suites on decks 9, 10, and 11 are a favorite of many Silversea guests since they provide a luxurious apartment-like space, but are not as costly as the other three large suite categories. A one-bedroom Silver Suite measures a spacious 786-square-feet and expands to 1119-square-feet when families combine it with an adjoining Panorama Suite.

The layout of the Silver Suites is similar to that found on the Silver Spirit.

Royal Suites

The two Royal Suites on the Silver Muse are found forward on deck 7. These suites measure 1130-square-feet but expand to 1528-square-feet when combined with an adjoining Veranda Suite. The forward views from these suites are spectacular, and the large living room/dining room and private veranda provide exceptional space for entertaining new or old friends and family.  The authentic Italian furnishings reflect the Silversea heritage.

Grand Suites

The four Grand Suites on the Silver Muse are found forward on deck 8 and 9. Like the Royal Suites, this category has the same amazing forward sea views as those seen from the navigation bridge. The Grand Suites are similar in configuration to the Royal Suites, but are larger, measuring 1475-1572 square feet or 1873-1970 square feet when combined with an adjoining Veranda Suite. The two verandas that wrap around the outside of these suites are about 500 square feet and huge.

The Grand Suites have all the amenities of the Royal Suites but feature a king-sized bed that can be made up as two twin beds rather than a queen-sized.  In addition, guests staying in the Grand Suites can enjoy a complimentary dinner at La Dame.

Owner's Suites

The four Owner's Suites on the Silver Muse are located in a prime location—mid-ship on deck 9 near the Panorama Lounge, spiral staircase, and aft elevators. The one-bedroom Owner's Suites range in size from 1281-1389 square feet with a 129-square-foot balcony or can be combined with an adjoining Panorama Suite, which adds an additional 334 square feet.

Like the Grand Suites, these feature a king-sized bed and the finest in Italian ambiance and furnishings.

Traditional Dining on the Silver Muse

The Silver Muse has eight different dining venues. Three of these—Atlantide, Indochine, and Spaccanapoli—are complimentary and have open seating for dinner. Three others—La Terrazza, Silver Note, and Hot Rocks Grill—are complimentary, with reservations necessary. The other two restaurants—La Dame and Kaiseki—require reservations and carry an extra surcharge.

Silversea ships have complimentary drinks all day and night, with about 60 different complimentary wines available on each cruise. About 500 bottles of wine, 500 bottles of beer, and 80 bottles of champagne are consumed each day on the Silver Muse. In addition, 800 cans of soda, 100 Spirits, and 1100 cups of coffee are served. The bartenders quickly learn each guest's preferences, and they offer interesting cocktails and martinis in addition to the standard beer, wine, and mixed drinks.

In addition to the eight restaurants onboard, the Art Cafe on deck 8 aft serves complimentary light snacks and specialty coffees/teas from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day. People gather to eat a late (or early) breakfast and work the daily Sudoku, crossword puzzle, or trivia questions. They also gather for afternoon tea, sandwiches, scones, and snacks. The seating is very comfortable, with space indoors and out.

Guests can also order complimentary 24-hour room service from the menu in their suites.

Let's take a look at the complimentary restaurants in more detail.

Atlantide is the largest dining venue on the Silver Muse. Located aft on deck 4, its cuisine and variety of tastes is similar to The Restaurant on other Silversea ships. Seafood and steaks are the most popular items, but Atlantide has a huge menu, so it's fun to sample the variety of appetizers, main courses, and desserts by dining at Atlantide on different nights.

Atlantide also features complimentary breakfast and lunch ordered from a menu.

Indochine is the Silver Muse's Asian restaurant, with dishes from India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and China on the dinner menu. It is located next to Atlantide on deck 4 aft. Appetizers like beef tataki, Saku tuna, and foie gras with Asian spices will make your mouth water. The soups and noodle bowls (pho and tom yum goong) are delightful; the lobster, crab legs, and red snapper feature tasty flavors; and the short ribs, Osso Bucco, beef, and chicken complete the main menu. Dessert lovers will enjoy the rice pudding and other delicacies.

La Terrazza

Cruise travelers expect an Italian-owned luxury cruise line to have a memorable Italian restaurant, and La Terrazza on the Silver Muse continues as the cruise line's hallmark Italian dining experience. Like the other venues, La Terrazza has a large menu, and the appetizers, plates of pasta, main courses and desserts are all delicious. Many guests start with antipasti like a salad or carpaccio, followed by one of the homemade pasta or soups, and then finish with a beef, veal, or fish dish. Of course, one has to save room for tiramisu or gelato!

La Terrazza has indoor and outdoor dining and is open as a buffet for breakfast and lunch.

The Grill (Hot Rocks)

The Grill is located outdoors by the swimming pool on deck 10 and is open for casual lunch and dinner. Lunch includes hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads, and a daily special. Since The Grill stays open longer for lunch, it's a perfect choice for those looking for a late bite after a shore excursion or free time ashore.

Dinner at The Grill is a favorite of many who love their steak cooked "just right". Since the steaks, seafood, and vegetables are served on a hot rock, guests cook their own, so it should come out perfectly. A selection of side dishes and sauces accompany the grilled food. The steaks are yummy, but the salmon and prawns are also fun to cook. Veggie lovers have a selection of vegetables to choose from, and many foodies agree they taste so much better grilled than steamed.

Spaccanapoli

In addition to a fine Italian restaurant like La Terrazza, it's appropriate for an Italian cruise ship to have an excellent pizzeria, and the Silver Muse has Spaccanapoli , a casual eatery outdoors on deck 11 overlooking the pool. The large selection of pizza toppings will make it difficult to decide, but guests can always go back for a snack, lunch, or dinner since the restaurant is open from 11 am to 11 pm each day.  The thin crust, crispy pizza tastes just like those you find in Naples. In addition, Spaccanapoli serves a selection of about a dozen gelati, frozen yogurts, and sorbets. These treats can be ordered at the table or take-away.

Silver Note

Located next to La Terraza on deck 7, Silver Note is the cruise ship's supper club, with small plates and tapas on the menu. The dinner experience includes a jazz and blues singer and the sometimes even a little dancing.

Alternative Dining on the Silver Muse

Two specialty restaurants on the Silver Muse have an extra surcharge and require a reservation. These intimate venues offer a memorable meal and exquisite presentation. They are perfect for celebrating a special event like a birthday or anniversary. Both of these venues are tiny, so reservations should be booked before boarding if you want to dine on a select date.

La Dame by Relais & Châteaux

La Dame is the specialty French restaurant on the Silver Muse and has a bespoke dinner menu developed by top chefs from the Relais & Châteaux team. As expected, the menu is filled with rich French food featuring interesting sauces and combinations.

Kaiseki is the Japanese restaurant on the Silver Muse. Guests can enjoy complimentary sushi at the sushi bar for lunch, and dinner features a teppanyaki grill and sushi. The dinner menu is expansive and memorable.

Silver Muse Interior Common Areas

The interior common areas of the Silver Muse are elegant and subdued, with splashes of bright color in the artwork and accessories. The soft grays and beiges give the cruise ship a quiet, restful ambiance, perfect for a luxury cruise ship.

Lounges and Bars

The Silver Muse has ten lounges spread around the ship. The Panorama Lounge and Arts Cafe deliver great indoor and outdoor seating and aft sea views. Dolce Vita is the main lounge and occupies a large space on deck 5. It has a bar, comfortable seating, and is the home of the Shore Excursion, Future Cruise Planning, and Reception Desks. Panorama and Dolce Vita usually feature live music before and after dinner.

Tor's Observation Library and Lounge is forward on deck 11 and provides the same great views as the navigation bridge directly below it. This lounge is usually quiet and is a good place to read and watch the scenery. Tor's is named for Torstein Hagen, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Viking Cruises. Mr. Hagen is a good friend of Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the Executive Chairman of Silversea Cruises. Mr. Hagen named the Italian steakhouse restaurant on the Viking Cruises' ocean ships Manfredi's because of the counsel Mr. Lefebvre had provided during the construction and launch of Viking's ocean ships. To reciprocate and celebrate their friendship, Mr. Lefebvre named the observation library "Tor's".

The Venetian Lounge is the main show lounge on the Silver Muse. It has a cabaret feel and features nightly performances by the Silversea singers and dancers or guest performers who come onto the ship for a few days. The Venetian Lounge is also used for lectures on a variety of topics including destinations, history, or the arts, and the lounge has a wide screen for showing movies.

Connoisseur's Corner is the ship's smoking lounge, with fine cigars, cognac, and rich leather sofas and furnishings. It is located next to the Arts Cafe, aft on deck 8.

The Zagara Spa, Beauty Salon, Barber Shop, and Fitness Center

The spa, beauty, and fitness facilities on the Silver Muse are located on deck 6 aft. Like many cruise ship spas, the Zagara Spa is operated by Steiner Leisure  and offers many different types of facials, massages, and other wellness activities. The spa has nine treatment rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, an acupuncture suite, relaxation area, and a dedicated outdoor whirlpool.

The beauty salon and barber shop offer a full range of haircuts, styles, and colors. In addition, men can get a shave and a haircut, and the nail technician offers several different types of manicures and pedicures.

The fitness center has many different types of exercise equipment. It almost makes exercise fun when you have nice sea views! Personal trainers are available for one-on-one training sessions in the gym, and exercise classes are held each day in the fitness center.

The Boutique Shops

The boutique shops sell a variety of clothing, jewelry, watches, and essential toiletries in the onboard shops. The ship also has an Italian cobbler from Preludio of Capri who will make custom sandals for the guests. Many guests often ask what was the most expensive item ever sold in the onboard boutiques. According to Silversea, it was a $190,000 Hubert diamond bracelet. Swiss watches are also a popular purchase on the Silver Muse.

The Casino on deck 7 of the Silver Muse is small but has slot machines, poker, roulette, and blackjack games.  Silversea reports that the "average" gambler on their ships spends about $50-$100 per day.

Silver Muse Outdoor Decks

This small ship also has spacious outdoor deck areas. Even travelers on luxury cruises expect plenty of lounges, chairs, and outdoor deck space for sunning or relaxing. You won't find an aqua park or water slides since this ship is quieter and more adult-oriented (although it does have a children's room and outdoor play area on deck 9).

The swimming pool and two whirlpools are located mid-ship on deck 10.  A third, out-of-the-way whirlpool is found aft on deck 10. Very comfortable lounge chairs are found outdoors throughout the ship, especially on decks 8-11 aft, as are padded chairs perfect for reading or socializing. The pool and bar staff circulate the outdoor area, offering cold towels or icy drinks. The ship has a dedicated walking/jogging track on deck 11 aft, and a partial promenade encircles part of deck 5.

Overall, this new cruise ship is a great addition to the Silversea fleet and the luxury cruise market. The ship sails to all seven continents and many guests combine multiple segments for an extended superb cruise experience since each segment is different. The Silver Muse is beautiful inside and out and ready to carry Silversea guests to destinations all over the world in the years to come. Just as importantly, the staff is exceptional and ready to provide the high level of service that guests expect from Silversea Cruises.

Silversea Cruises Silver Muse Review. 10 Things You Need To Know

by Gary Bembridge · April 19, 2017

This is my  Silversea Silver Muse review, with 10 things you need to know about the line and ship.

The latest addition to the Silversea fleet is the Silver Muse. I cruised on the ship on one of the shakedown cruises days before it officially came into service. Based on this experience, I have developed a list of 10 things every potential cruiser needs to know about the ship – and cruising on it.

Silversea Silver Muse at Sea

Silversea Silver Muse at Sea

#1: Part of the Silversea Cruises family

Silversea Cruises was created in early 1990s out of a love of cruising by Antonio Lefebvre d’Ovidio from Italy. From small beginnings, it has grown to become a fleet of nine ships with the launch of the Silver Muse. The vision is to eventually have 12 ships. They operate in the ultra-luxury end of the cruise industry.

It is one of the last privately owned cruise lines, and the only ultra-luxury line not part of a larger corporation. Seabourn are owned by Carnival; Regent Seven Seas by Norwegian Cruise Line; Azamara by Royal Caribbean and Crystal by the Genting Corporation in Hong Kong.

The fleet is split into two: “Classic” and “Expedition”. By the end of 2017 there will be 5 five classic ships: Silver Muse, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper and Silver Spirit. They carry between 296 and 596 guests, and sail to traditional cruise destinations around the world providing a classic cruise experience.

On the other hand, the Expedition Fleet will have four ships by the end of 2017. These are specially adapted and equipped to travel to remote and exotic locations like the Arctic, Antarctica, Galápagos and Pacific. Each ship carries smaller numbers and has a large Expedition Team to educate and escort travellers as they travel around these destinations. The ships are Silver Discoverer, Silver Explorer, Silver Galápagos and Silver Cloud Expedition.

Silversea aim to visit more destinations than other ultra-luxury lines, and claim to call on at least 40% more than their closest competitor annually.

Silversea Silver Muse Genoa

Silversea Silver Muse Genoa

#2: Entered service in April 2017

The Silver Muse was formally named in Monte Carlo on 19 April 2017. The Godmother is the owner’s daughter Costanza.

It is the largest ship in the fleet, carrying 596 guests and 411 crew. It joins the “Classic” fleet and will sail traditional style cruises around the world, including the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South America, and Asia.

This size will be the biggest that Silversea will go. The format and layout of the ship has set a new template for future ships in the line, and the owner hinted that they have options to build three similar ships. They have no plans to use bigger vessels to maintain the exclusivity, service levels and flexibility in ports they can call on. Most ultra-luxury lines are keeping their ships on the smaller end of the passenger capacity to offer an alternative to the ever-larger resort-style monoliths being added by the luxury and mass-market lines.

#3: Ultra-luxury

The Silver Muse feels like a luxury ship. Whilst it is bigger than the other Silversea ships I have sailed on, it felt intimate despite the 596-guest capacity and eight passenger decks. The ship felt like it has had money lavished on it, and there was attention to detail in all aspects of the fixtures and furniture. I have been fortunate to experience a few of the more recent entries to other ultra-luxury lines over the past 18 months, and this ship did feel plusher.

The Silversea crew is trained by the Leading Hotels of the World, and there was an attentive and caring ethos. Of course, I was experiencing the ship during its initial roll out and, no doubt, the very best of the staff were on board for the launch.

Silversea Silver Muse Panorama Lounge

Silversea Silver Muse Panorama Lounge

#4: All-inclusive fares

All ultra-luxury lines offer all-inclusive fares. Though you need to check what each covers, as they do have some differences. For Silversea and Silver Muse the fare includes:

  • Accommodation, which are all suites with balcony.
  • All meals, including 24-hour room service. In the section on dining options I cover the possibilities in more detail.
  • There is choice of complimentary wines, spirits, specialty coffees and soft drinks in the suite and around the ship at all times.
  • Entertainment, such as the nightly shows and enrichment lectures.
  • Gratuities, with the exception of those for spa and beauty salon treatments.
  • Transport into town from port if the ship is not docked within easy walking distance.

The fare does not cover:

  • Excursions.
  • Surcharges in the La Dame and Kaiseki restaurants.

#5: All-suite All Balcony Suites (with seven categories)

Every stateroom on the Silver Muse is a suite and has balcony access. There are no inside or ocean view only cabins. It also has the highest number of their larger suites (Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner’s) and the greatest number of connecting suites for families and friends than the rest of the fleet.

There are seven suites to choose from. In order of size and grandness they are:

  • Owner’s Suite – one bedroom suite (can be made into two with use of an adjoining Verandah suite).
  • Grand Suite – one bedroom suite (can be made into two with adjoining suite).
  • Royal Suite – one bedroom suite (can be made into two with adjoining suite).
  • Silver Suite – one bedroom suite (can be made into two with adjoining suite).
  • Deluxe Verandah Suite, located midships.
  • Superior Verandah Suite, located on the upper deck.
  • Classic Verandah Suite, located lower and towards the bow.

The layout and size of the Verandah suites are the same but their grade is set by location on the ship, with the Deluxe in the most desirable locations.

All suites include:

  • Butler service.
  • Minibar stocked with your choice of drink.
  • Bvlgari toiletries, or a choice of other European brands.
  • Pratesi bed linens and down duvet covers.
  • Pillow menu.
  • Etro® brand bathrobes.
  • Two state-of-the-art flat-screen HD TVs built into the mirrors.
  • Sockets for every format of electric plugs, including UK, USA and USB charging sockets.

#6: Traditional cruise experience

Silversea’s Silver Muse offers a traditional approach to cruising. The ship is not designed as a resort but is more akin to staying in a quality hotel. The focus is around good dining, mixing with friends, relaxation and exercise on board. While there are a number of diversions in the form of enrichment lectures, bridge games and classes and the like, the ship focuses on delivering passengers to destinations in comfort and not in providing a resort packed full of activities and features.

Silversea Silver Muse

Silversea Silver Muse

Silversea have disposed of the traditional main dining room and replaced it with a range of themed restaurants. This is a great evolution, especially as (unlike many lines) most are included within the fare.

Your included dining options, which are all open-seated dining are:

  • La Terrazza : Italian food, and a standard across Silversea with food stations for breakfast and lunch and à la carte menu at night.
  • Atlantide : Seafood and steak bar and grill.
  • Indochine : Asian food including Thai and Indian.
  • Spaccanapoli : Pizza restaurant that is inspired by, and named after, the road that divides Naples in two and is renowned for its pizzerias.
  • The Grill / Hot Rocks : Another Silversea classic using hot lava stones allowing guests to cook their own meat, fish or vegetables at their table. During the day this poolside venue serves casual food like burgers.
  • Silver Note : Taps-style dishes while live jazz is performed.
  • 24 -Hour room service .

The two venues requiring an extra fee, which was $60 per person at time of writing are:

  • La Dame by Relais & Châteaux : French Cuisine designed by chefs from the Relais & Châteaux team.
  • Kaiseki :  Japanese with Teppanyaki in evening. For lunch it serves sushi, sashimi and other raw Asian-inspired dishes.

#8: Facilities

Although relatively small, the Silver Muse does have a good range of choice if you are looking for open deck spaces to relax outdoors or places to meet with friends or for quiet time inside. These are the key facilities:

  • Bars and lounges : Tor’s Observation and Library with views over the bow of the ship; Panorama Lounge which also hosts music and a DJ late into the evenings; Connoisseur’s Corner for smokers and cigar lovers; Arts Café which is new to Silversea and has eclectic artworks and light snacks and the large Atrium Lounge, where the Reception and Shore Excursion desks are situated.
  • Fitness and Relaxation : There is a large pool, with running track on the upper level. The Zagara Spa and fitness centre has a barber, hairdresser, nail bar as well as the usual spa treatments. Fitness classes are held in a small studio, while there are also free weights, machines and cardio equipment.
  • Entertainment is held in the Venetian Lounge. Shows are of the standard revue performed by the Silversea Singers and supplemented by guest performers on some nights.
  • Other facilities include a Card Room, Boutiques, Casino and Kids’ Activity Room.

#9: Dress Code and Packing

The dress code is smarter than on some ultra-luxury lines. Instead of the “country casual” approach others use, Silver Muse has a “smart casual” approach with some formal evenings. No jeans are allowed after 6pm and on formal nights it is expected that most gentlemen will wear jackets and women be in cocktail dresses.

#10: Passenger Types

The core target for Silversea are “Baby Boomers” (travellers born post war and into the early 1960s). Most passengers will be couples aged 50s, 60s and into their 70s. They will tend to be professionals, and often retired or semi-retired. As a 58 year old traveller I personally find I fit in especially well on the line.

The line is a premium one and so people with the funds and lifestyle to afford it are attracted to it. I find Silversea travellers to be inquisitive and interested in seeing new places, but want to travel in luxury and an environment that they are feel comfortable with.

Most guests will be American, although as cruising expands there is an increasing mix of nationalities. As their cruise experience is very English-language and culturally based, expect to find British, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders well represented.

In my view this is not really a line for families and children. There are lines that offer the facilities and programs that better meet these needs in my view. I also suspect that other travellers on board are likely to be looking for a more adult environment, and will be less enthusiastic about finding families on board. However, if you travel during key school vacation times expect to find some children and multi-generational families around the ship.

Final Thought

The Silver Muse is a gorgeous ship and probably the nicest and plush ship I have travelled on to date. It has a well thought out layout and stunning suites. The food and choices were breathtaking and the service attentive and caring. I really liked it.

Thank you for the most comprehensive review of Silver Muse, especially since you have sailed with her. My husband and I have booked on March 22nd 2018 out of Ft. Lauderdale. It is a big celebration for us 40 year anniversary. Your actual photos and helpful tips are great.

Thanks for taking a look at the review and even more for leaving feedback and comments. I am sure you will love the ship, it is quite something. I am envious as would love to have a set plan to get back on!! Gary

Can you tell me the actual dress code that people follow, please. My husband dislikes wearing jackets but is taking one which he will wear for “informal ” nights. We plan on dining in the casual restaurants on Formal nights. Must he wear a jacket in public spaces every night of the cruise? Thanks

Excellent! Many thanks…joining Silver Muse in Rio on Friday and now looking forward even more!!

Lucky you! Have a great time!!

I cannot really say in words well enough to describe the experience that my wife and I had on the Silver Shadow Ship belonging to Silversea Ltd. I took my wife on this Alaskan cruise after she had treatment for Cancer and to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.

We had to leave the ship early because it was so bad and my wife did not feel safe after she became ill on the ship and was mistreated by the ship doctor.

We both knew something was wrong when we got on the ship and it smelled of stale smoke but assumed that the “smokers” would only be allowed outside in certain areas.

Not only were they allowed indoors and it is almost impossible to stop cigarette and cigar smoke from permeating the entire indoor area once it’s there.

We could not attend the dining room nor the card room because the smoke had infiltrated those rooms so heavily that both myself and my wife had a very bad reaction.

For days our eyes felt that there were shards of glass in them IN OUR OWN ROOM and then my wife began to break out in welts.

We called the ship doctor in the middle of the night when she started to wheeze and we just wanted to make sure nothing more was wrong and try to find out what we could do.

When this woman showed up it was CLEAR she had it out for her and she laid into her like nothing I have ever seen in my life. She talked to her like she was trash, like she didn’t believe she was sick and even shrieked “OH PLEASE!” when my wife tried to show her the welts.

When I tried to intervene, my wife said no because she was FRIGHTENED of retaliation! The doctor then insisted “Well I’ll CHECK your back, LEAN OVER!” and pushed her back forward to check her breathing.

She never once asked my wife if she could TOUCH her and then proceeded to shove her around like a rag doll to “examine” her.

At this time she was in tears and just wanted to wait until she left to talk to the person in charge. The doctor was not finished and ASSUMED her weight outloud and barked at her nurse to “JUST GIVE HER A FEW CCs of X.” She said “no thank you please leave.”

She left us a bill of 230USD and walked out. I have never in my life seen any kind of professional treat another human being like this…EVER.

My wife and I were standing there stunned and called immediately to report that she has just been treated this way. She cried all night long.

We were able to talk to a very nice man name Marius who was very understanding and kind but he obviously had no authority to do anything. As if things could not get worse, the next day we called about a trip to Denali that I was specifically told was “by air.” It’s a;so called ‘DENALI BY AIR.” Well, we found out, it involved about 10 hours on a bus for 4 days and a lot of walking. Not only would I have never booked this because my wife tore her ACL at that time, but she just had surgery for Cancer. I wanted to take her to see this park without hurting her.

When she called and cried and begged the man in charge of this expedition to help us out (we spent $4k on this excursion alone), he rudely and coldly said there was nothing he could do. And when she told him that she was ill and could not physically do the excursion especially since getting sicker on the ship, he simply said “YES YOU CAN!” Well when we tried to look in the written description of the executions, there was one for EVERY SINGLE ONE EXCEPT THE “DENALI BY AIR!” They insisted that it was always discoverable on their website but “I” booked this and “I” was told by the sales agent that it was ONLY by air.

They refused any refund whatsoever and other than Marius and our nice butler, no one really seemed to care that we were in misery. After the manager let hq know what happened with all this we waited for a call but nothing. We said if we don’t get a call back, we will just leave. The next morning, they were at our door to help us off the boat.

Over $20k, no apology from headquarters, no refund, NOTHING. They had their money. Period. Repulsive.

Also I would like to add that one of the most disgusting things on this cruise that happened as well is that we were “separated” in the main dining room – apparently – by color? We noticed that we were seated in an area with other people of color – separate from the “other.” Mind you that we do not mind who we sit with, however, the fact that we were separated was very bizarre and repugnant. I also do not doubt for a moment that this is why my wife was treated so badly to begin with.

Silver Muse Itineraries

Silver muse review, review of silver muse.

The 2017-built MS Silver Muse cruise ship represents Silversea's biggest vessel design (an upgraded version of Silver Spirit /2009). Following the inauguration in April 2017, the Muse ship became fleet's flagship. When the shipbuilding order for the sistership Silver Moon (2020) was signed in September 2017, Silversea had a fleet of 9 operational vessels, with planned expansion up to 12 boats. The last 2 newbuilds in this series are Silver Dawn and Silver Moon.

The vessel (IMO number 9784350) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311000637) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Silversea Cruises is a Monaco -based privately-owned cruise company and top-luxury travel brand. It was established in 1994 as joint venture of V-Ships Monaco (fka Vlasov Group) and Lefebvre Family of Rome Italy . In 2018, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd acquired 2/3rd of the company. Silversea now has a fleet of smaller-sized boutique cruise vessels with passenger capacity between 100-700. Company's business model is to operate yacht-like vessels in the industry's ultra-luxury-all-suite ship category. Silversea's all-inclusive fares include beverages (also selected wines), gratuities (none are allowed), travel insurance, port charges, one or more shore excursions (per voyage).

Silver Muse cruise ship (Silversea)

The 596-passenger ship Silver Muse is an all-suite, top-luxury cruise ship. The keel-laying ceremony was on December 10, 2015, during which the shipowner welded into the keel 8 coins (instead of the traditional 1). The company's spokesman explained that the lucky coins represent the 7 continents (ports on which the Silversea ships visit) plus a specially designed coin for the Muse ship.

Decks and Cabins

Silver Muse staterooms (288 total) are all categorized as "suites", and 96% are with step-out balconies. The ship also has the Silversea fleet's biggest number of connecting cabins. Suite sizes range between 390-1970 ft2 (36-183 m2). Silver Suites (increased to a total of 34) are located on the ship's 3 top decks. The new category 2-Bedroom Silver Suite is sized 1120 ft2 (104 m2) including the terrace (130 ft2 / 12 m2).

The boat has 11 decks , of which 8 are passenger-accessible and 7 with cabins.

Each cabin has a private step-out balcony, walk-in closet, electronic safe box, chest of drawers, marble bathroom (bathtub, separate bathtub/shower, sink/WC area, plush robes and slippers (by Etro), towels, luxury bath products /choice of European top-brand products, Bvlgari by default).

All cabins are completely wireless, with iPod docking stations, hairdryers, alarm clocks, binoculars, umbrellas. Additional amenities in categories Owner, Silver, and Grand suites include 2 hours worldwide complimentary satellite phone use, in-cabin dining (afternoon canapes), private dinner at officers' table. Junior attendants and butlers are assigned to each suite.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Silver Muse offers 8 different dining options, including 3 al-fresco / outdoor. The menu selections are not just creative, but gourmet food art. The Hot Rocks grill menu and La Terrazza dinner robust menu are real steps in future gourmet cuisine at sea. As for the gratuities – all of those are included in the fare, and nothing additional is expected.

Follows the complete list of Silver Muse restaurants and food bars.

  • Atlantide (steakhouse, bar & grill restaurant, reservations-only; features designer seafood dishes and gourmet fish specialties)
  • 7 Restaurant (open-seating dining room with top-quality gourmet cuisine; features mostly Mediterranean themed meals, and always available standard menu with daily specials; all three meals are waiter-served and a la carte)
  • La Grande Dame (called Le Champagne on the other Silversea ships). La Dame is a new, 24-seat upscale French cuisine specialty restaurant that offers signature dishes by Relais Chateaux. This is the only shipboard restaurant where dining is at an additional fee (all others are price-inclusive). La Dame is dinner-only and reservations are required.
  • Kabuki (Japanese cuisine specialty restaurant, reservations required) with teppanyaki iron griddles (used for the evening meals). Sushi and sashimi are offered during the day.
  • Indochine (Asian cuisine specialty restaurant)
  • Silver Note (jazz club with live performances) also serves tapas-style dishes.
  • La Terrazza (Terrace Cafe; complimentary buffet restaurant) offers both indoor seating and an alfresco terrace with interactive food stations (olive oil cellar, a mozzarella bar, seafood bar, salumeria, Italian-style deli). Wine is complimentary, but premium wines (from Connoisseur’s Wine List) cost extra. There is an Afternoon Tea service. La Terrazza transforms each evening (between 7-9:30 pm) into an Italian specialty restaurant (reservations-only) with a la carte-priced menu. During the day, La Terrazza is also open for buffet-style breakfast and lunch.
  • Hot Rocks (alfresco poolside restaurant) is an outdoor Steakhouse and Seafood restaurant for gourmet al-fresco dining under the stars; This open-air grill venue implements Silversea's new interactive dining concept “Black Rock Grill Experience”. In the evenings, it allows passengers to cook their food (fresh seafood and prime steaks) on heated volcanic-rock plates at their own table. During the day, Hot Rocks serves as a rotisserie and gourmet salad and burger bar.
  • Regina Margherita (outdoor/poolside pizzeria) is also complimentary and open from morning to late evening. The restaurant offers pizzas baked in a custom-made, wood-fired oven.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Traditional entertainment onboard the Silverseas Muse ship is a little quieter than usual. Sure, there’s bingo, team trivia, golf competitions, an occasional movie, but most of the energetic entertainment takes place after dark with productions in Broadway-style and fine live jazz in The Theater.

The amenities on board include movies on demand and interactive TV service. Passengers can check messages, review accounts, or choose from a large number of newly released movies. Smart TVs are the world's latest technology - hybrid UHDTV with infotainment system (integrated Internet and interactive features). Cabin TV programming includes the channels CNN International, Fox News, ESPN, BBC World.

Eight laundry rooms are available for guests and complimentary. Also available are laundry, dry cleaning, pressing – all through the complimentary butler service for each of the cabins.

Itineraries

Silversea Silver Muse itinerary program is based on "all-inclusive luxury" voyages in Europe (Mediterranean from homeports Civitavecchia-Rome , Venice , Barcelona , Piraeus-Athens , Istanbul ), Alaska, Asia, Australia-New Zealand.

After the Inaugural season in Europe (2017), the ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Canada and the USA, to operate on various itineraries in the Caribbean and around South America, with roundtrips out of Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA) .

Silver Muse's first World Cruise was scheduled for 2019.

Following the 2-year pause due to the Coronavirus crisis, in 2022 the ship restarted operations on May 19th, with a summer season in Alaska based on shuffling between  Seward AK  and  Vancouver BC . Followed redeployment to Australia-New Zealand (for winter 2022-2023) via Asia.

Silversea's "flight and cruise" package deals (by the company's "Silver Sky" program) are inclusive of the luxury cruise fare, discount round-trip airfare (Economy Class) and airport-pier-airport transfers.

Silversea's "hotel and cruise" package "Silver Shore Simply Hotel" offers overnight 5-star luxury hotel stays with the option of adding transfers or upgrades. The upgraded cruise and hotel package ("Silver Shore Grande Hotel") offers 1-3-nights landmark hotel stays (or at a boutique property) and is inclusive of private transfers (airport-hotel and hotel-pier).

Silver Muse Wiki

The vessel is an upgraded (bigger) version of Silver Spirit (fleet's largest until 2017). The Muse ship redefines the ultra-luxury cruising by enhancing Silversea's hallmarks - small-ship intimate travel, spacious and comfortable suite accommodations, impeccable service, exotic itineraries around the world.

Silversea's Muse ship was built by Fincantieri in Genoa Italy . In July 2015, Silversea announced that the boat would be company's new flagship, with scheduled delivery in April 2017. Vessel's construction started on July 24, 2015, with the steel-cutting ceremony at the shipyard Sestri Ponente (Genoa).

Silver Muse cruise ship (Silversea)

On December 10, 2015, was the keel-laying ceremony during which 8 coins (instead of the traditional 1) were welded into the keel. The "lucky coins" represented the 7 continents that Silversea ships visit, plus one specially designed for the ship coin. The coins were South African rand, Australian dollar, US half a dollar, Brazilian real, Italian euro, Singapore dollar and the commemorative Antarctica trust coin (designed for Silver Muse). The ceremony was attended by Enzo Visone (Silversea's CEO) and Raffaele Davassi (the shipyard's director).

In early February 2017, Silversea announced that the ship would operate on roundtrips from homeport Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) , with an inaugural cruise in October 2017. The company signed an agreement with Port Everglades to homeport the ship there during the winters for 2 years (2017-2018), with included option to renew the deal for additional 3 years - to a minimum of 12 itineraries per year.

In early March 2017, Silversea announced the names of the ship's senior officers. The vessel's Captain is Alessandro Zanello - working for the company since 1999, Silver Spirit's second-in-command between 2009-2017. Its Executive Chef is Anne-Mari Cornelius - Silver Whisper's Executive Chef between 2005-2017. The ship's Cruise Director is Jimmy Kovel - with the company since 2009. Staff Captain is Sergio Topazio. Chief Engineer is Michele Barone. The ship's Hotel Director is Paolo Percivale.

On July 1, 2016, the vessel was launched at Sestri Ponente shipyard. On April 2, 2017, was the vessel's delivering ceremony attended by Manfredi d’Ovidio (Silversea's chairman), Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri's CEO), Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco (Genoa's archbishop, who blessed the ship) and Giovanni Toti (Liguria's governor).

The ship's "Inaugural Cruise" was on April 10, 2017. The 8-day itinerary (roundtrip from Monte Carlo, Monaco ) visited Marseille, Barcelona, Palma De Mallorca, Minorca (Port Mahon), Sardinia (Porto Torres) and Italy (Livorno, and Portofino). Prices started from US$3550 per person.

On April 17, 2017, was the boat's christening ceremony held at Port Hercule (Monte Carlo) and led by godmother Costanza Lefebvre d'Ovidio - daughter of Silversea's owner Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio di Balsorano di Clunieres. The naming ceremony was also attended by Prince Albert II of Monaco, Serge Telle (Minister of State), the Archbishop of Monaco, Peter Greenberg (CBS-TV Travel), Geoffrey Kent (Abercrombie & Kent cruise company's founder), Gerald Lawless (WTCC / "World Touring Car Championship" Chairman) and other VIP guests. The ceremony was hosted by Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio (Silversea Chairman) and featured a live concert performance by Rome's Sinfonietta Orchestra.

Silver Muse refurbishments review

The ship's first drydock was in 2022 (May 1-14) conducted at Nanaimo Shipyard in Port Nanaimo (BC Canada) . The 2-week project was for “limited operation maintenance" works before the Alaskan season (May 19 - Sept 8) based on 7-day one-ways between Seward AK and Vancouver BC .

Inaugural itineraries 2017

During the Inaugural 2017 season Silversea's Silver Muse operates on mostly one-way Mediterranean itineraries, visiting ports on the Italian and French rivieras and the Greek Islands. Departures are from Monaco (Monte Carlo) , France (Nice/Villefranche) , Italy ( Civitavecchia-Rome , Venice ), Spain (Barcelona) , Greece (Athens) and Turkey (Istanbul) . In 2017, Muse visited a total of 130 ports in 34 different countries.

The Silver Muse was our first introduction as guests to the world of “Ultra Luxury” cruising. I hate to use that phrase “Ultra Luxury” as it implies that it might be too high brow or beyond the reach of most people. However, with so much included in the price of the cruise, it is already in the price range of folks who are booking higher end suites on more mainstream cruise lines like Celebrity, Royal Caribbean (two sister brands), Holland America or Princess. The overall experience is one of worry free vacationing with out the hustle and bustle of the crowds that you have on these larger cruise lines.

Those mainstream cruise lines have tried to compete with this type of product by offering more inclusions for all guests and giving special priority and privileges to suites guests. However, none of those special statuses are needed on Silversea with it being all suite accommodations and nearly all inclusive. The only few things one might spend extra on would be the connoisseurs wine list, spa treatments and two very small dining venues that have a cover charge. Starting with most voyages in spring of 2022, almost all cruises will include excursions and economy air (with reasonable prices for upgrading to business class).

Equal pampering is what Silversea is all about. From the moment we boarded, we were met with a glass of champagne, lots of friendly faces (although crew did have to wear masks) and very intuitive service. I think that the crew must be trained never to say no and to accomodate all requests. We had pizza for lunch when we boarded and my husband asked for Italian red wine, which they didn’t have on hand that day at that venue, but they kindly brought some up to us shortly after he made that request.

The service onboard the ship was above and beyond anything I have experience at sea. We had a three person cabin team that included our European hotel trained butler and two cabin attendants. When we arrived in our room our suitcases were already in the room on stands. Shortly after we arrived in our room, our butler came in to open our champagne and inquire if we would like him to unpack for us. After our quick muster drill we were back in the room, when our butler, dressed in tuxedo tails came in with two others from his team and a stack of hangers and hung up and put away all our hanging and folded clothes. They left more personal items in the cases for us to unpack for ourselves later. This was such a nice touch for me because on other lines, usually our suitcases arrive out in the hall right about sail away time, and I have sometimes missed it because I am unpacking and hanging clothes so that they aren’t too wrinkled the next day.

Our suite had a walk in closet and large bath with a shower and tub and large counter with a sink. Two people could easily fit in the bathroom. The room was nicely set up with our preferred arrangement of the bed by the entry to the room and the sofa and desk closer to the balcony. On some ships, only every other room has this configuration. There was also a set of black-out curtains that can be used as a room divider if one guests wakes earlier than the other. The room had two TV’s that were built into the mirrors, which was a nice touch as the TV was not obvious or obtrusive. The suites come with that famous butler service also, so either a glass of wine or some hot tea was just a phone call away.

Since we were on with a group Silversea sales reps and other travel agents, they gave us a chance to see other unoccupied suite classes on the ship. For those folks who need a little bit more room than our cabin and separate living and bedrooms, I would recommend the Silver Suites, which are the mid priced rooms on the ship.

The layout of the ship was different than any other I have been on. Most of the decks shared space with suites forward to mid ship and then public areas on the back of the ship. This again corresponded to that “All Guests Equally Pampered” philosophy, with the aft facing views being accessible to all guests on the ship.

The main entertainment area of the ship was Deck 5 which featured the lounge area La Dolce Vida and the Venetian theaters. Daily team trivia hosted by the cruise director Rico, was held each afternoon. Forming a team and playing along every day was always fun for those who attended. On the back of the ship was the Venetian Theater which hosted both enrichment lectures and evening production shows.

Just below on Deck 4 were several of the dining venues, which will be discussed in detail in my dining reviews. Deck 6 Featured the Spa and Gym.

Deck 7 featured the beautiful aft facing La Terraza dining venue. This venue is open for breakfast and lunch with both quick service stations and plated options. Dinner is full service. More about this venue in my dining review section.

Deck 8 featured the shops including a fine jewelry shop, and ship wear shop, the art lounge which featured specialty coffee and a variety of snacks. Next was the Connoisseur Lounge, an indoor smoking lounge with Cigars and Fine Liquor. The door to this lounge was always shut and your could not smell smoke even just outside the door. There was also an outdoor smoking area just outside, again on the aft of the ship so that you did not smell it anyplace else.

silver muse excursions

Deck 9 included the Panorama Lounge which had pre-dinner live music and entertainment, after dinner trivia and games and late night disco for those who wanted to stay up a little later. The production singers even presented a few shows in this venue. There was also an outdoor terrace on this venue.

silver muse excursions

Deck 10 included the pool deck, the Terrace dining venue, the pool, hot tubs and weather permitting, live music.

For those of you who enjoy a morning walk on the track, deck 11 is the place to be. Then, after walking the calories off, guest can put them back on at the fresh Pizzeria at lunch or dinner.

Dress Code – Silversea does still try to offer the traditional elegant cruise experience with most nights falling into the Informal Category – dressier outfits for the ladies and slacks and jackets for the men. On our cruise, formal night was optional, so most of men work sports coats or suits with or without a tie, and a few of the men wore dinner jackets or tuxedos. Ladies wore a variety on formal nights from really fancy dressy pants and tops ensembles, to cocktail dresses to evening gowns. However, though most people fit right in with the dresscode, there was really no need for enforcement as those that were under-dressed were just slightly under dressed and not really an issue. There were no folks walking around in gym shorts and t-shirts during the evening dress code hours. So if your jacket doesn’t fit, or you have a medical or physical condition where a coat and tie might not work for you, just dress as nicely as you can and you’ll be fine on Silversea. Or just visit a local men’s wear store and pick up one neutral jacket that you can wear on those informal nights.

silver muse excursions

Service – It is hard to put into words how the service exceed expectations. Starting with that butler service where if you want hot tea or a glass of wine in the afternoon all you have to do is call. The butler even came by to polish Steve’s shoes before formal night. We had in-suite room service breakfast and dinner and a nice touch that Silversea adds is that they have a table topper that fits right on the coffee table so that you have a full size table for in room dining. They cover it with a white table cloth, and it is elegant dining right in your room.

silver muse excursions

The crew were all happy to see guests back onboard, and even though they had to wear masks, you could see that they were all smiling. There didn’t seem to be anything we could ask for they they weren’t able to get. During afternoon trivia sometimes I would have glass of champagne and other times it was hot tea. But they always came right to me for my request and came back promptly with the item. There was absolutely no standing in line at any point to be seated or served. It tried to imagine how it would be if the ship was at full capacity, and with the high staff to guest ratio that they have, even at full capacity it would never be a wait. I’ll cover the dining service in more detail on the dining review page, but I’ll just touch on the fact that there was never a wait or a want, if they didn’t have exactly what you requested, they would get it for you. My husband wanted salsa for his eggs, the chef made it from scratch in about 5 minutes and had it for him. At every meal they were poring a white and red wine, but if you wanted something else they would ask you what you like and then just bring you what you wanted. There was also never a wait to speak with guest relations. My husband and I both bought the upgraded internet package and when we realized that it would have been a lot less to add an additional device to my plan, they consolidated us and refunded his upgrade price. When I had a question about my shore excursion, I just walked up and asked, no waiting there either.

silver muse excursions

Entertainment – Entertainment on this ship was small ship cabaret style shows, a classical/jazz guitarist, a pianist, a music trio and a DJ. There were six singer/dancers that performed several production and cabaret style shows. Two of the singers were trained opera singers who did one featured night with live pianist of opera selections. Other nights featured different singers in their own solo show. One performer did Broadway and Westend, another performer did Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble style songs. These were very talented vocalist who stood on the talent of their vocals rather than a big production and flashy sets and arrangements. My other favorite performers on the ship were the Jazz Duo that performed jazz classics and jazz takes on more modern songs in the Silver Note venue. This was like a New York style jazz club that had a dining option, or guests could come in listen after dining hours and enjoy a drink.

silver muse excursions

Activities – The ship had many included activities including fitness classes, craft workshops, trivia, name that tune, putting contests. I particularly enjoyed participating inthe afternoon team trivia with fellow guests. The cruise director made it fun for all, and folks enjoyed the friendly competition. I was on a working trip, so much of the day I spent on the computer or on the phone via Wifi calling.

Silversea excursions

Cool Cruiser

It seems that when cruising finally starts again, it may not be possible to organise our own excursions? Is that correct?

This seems like it might be quite a hefty additional expense as we have only ever done expedition cruises with Silversea  where they are already included. And when we have sailed with Celebrity and Windstar we did our own thing - often very similar to the ship's excursions but at a fraction of the cost. And it didn't involve being herded onto large coaches which doesn't really appeal.

We are now tempted to move completely to Silversea as we like to smaller ships and the whole SS experience. But if the only way we can get off the ship is by going on their excursions that might be a deal-breaker. Can anyone advise us as to the cost and quality of SS excursions?

Virtually impossible as it depends on a variety of factors such as port and tour type.  Like you, we tend to organize our own tours.  But, on occasion we take a SS excursion.  Generally, they are of high quality.  Per person prices that we’ve taken ran from around $69 to over $1,000.  It all depends on the type of tour.

Excursions are included in the new Silver Moon Greece cruises

If this is the case, it will almost certainly be a temporary arrangement in light of COVID.

Prices vary depending upon the excursion.  Some are 50.00........others over 500.00.

Certainly it is driven by Covid.  Whether it will persist is the unknown.   That said until we’re allowed off the ship on our own I don’t see us cruising.

My question is whether Silversea will reduce the cost of the optional excursions, since they are now providing some excursions in the cruise fare?  Since I've already 'paid' for those excursions, shouldn't the others be priced only at what would have been their additional cost?

With regard to the upcoming Moon Greece cruises, only private car excursions come with a price tag (USD 400 -1,000). All other excursions are free. As shown below, people must pay if they want more than one excursion per day,  which wouldn't even be possible on the Moon Greece cruises due to the timing/duration of the excursions.

This is what is mentioned in MySilversea:

SHORE EXCURSIONS PROGRAMME

On all Classic Cruises of Silver Muse, Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow, selected shore excursions ( one per guest/port/day ), if available, will be offered on a complimentary basis.   Shore excursions will be bookable at least 180 days prior to sailing, on “first-come-first-served” basis, although a pre-sale period will be dedicated to Venetian Society guests. Shore Excursions may require minimum participation levels to operate so it is recommended to sign up as early as possible.   The deadline for booking Shore Excursions on MySilversea is 2 days prior departure date.   The “Shore Excursions Programme” is subjected to shore excursions availability in each port and guests’ first choice may or may not be available. The first shore excursion booked in a single day/port, among the shore excursions bookable and available within the Programme, will be considered included, while additional ones will come at full fare. Shore Excursions Programme does not apply on the embarking and disembarking port.   In case guests’ first choice in a single port is waitlisted, Silversea recommends guests to choose an alternative option, which will be considered confirmed should the first choice be confirmed as not unavailable. Guests will be notified about the status of the waitlisted tour and they will have the option to make their final choice on MySilversea about the tour they want to include in the programme.   More excursions are available for purchase at full price. Capacity is limited on all shore excursions including shore excursions available in the Programme and guests’ first choice may or may not be available. Shore Excursions may require minimum participation levels to operate so it is recommended to sign up as early as possible. Silversea strongly advises booking shore excursions as soon as they are available, usually 180 days before the voyage departure date, to avoid disappointment. The deadline for booking Shore Excursions on MySilversea is 2 days prior departure date.   Silversea reserves the right to cancel any excursions including free shore excursions. No credit or other compensation will be given if free shore excursions are unavailable, cancelled or not utilized. No shore excursions will be offered at the disembarkation port/day. All shore excursions including those offered on a complimentary basis are operated by independent operators over whom Silversea has no control. All advertised fares, savings, offers, programs and itineraries are correct at time of printing, are subject to availability and may change at any time. Other restrictions may apply.   For Expedition voyages, shore activities are fully included as compulsory component of the product.

Good morning,  so they are offering 1 complimentary excursion in each port.  I thought you meant all of them were free.

In this tour programme all the excursions start at 10 am (a few at 2pm) and last at least 4 hours (many up to 8 hours), so it is technically impossible to do more than one excursion per day.

Looking at the Silversea website it now looks like shore excursions are included in 2022 cruises but I'm not sure what will happen later this year.

It's just been confirmed that our Reykjavik to Kangerlussaq cruise has been cancelled and there don't seem to be any other expedition cruises (our favourites!!) available except Antarctic and Galapagos and we've already done both of these. We're therefore looking at either the Muse later on in the year in Asia or the Whisper in Norway in July (but I doubt that will go if the Cloud has been cancelled?) But I'm not clear what will happen about shore excursions on either of these.

That's not the case for the Jan. 23, 2023 Australia-New Zealand cruise I was looking at.  As shown below (this is typical of all port calls on this cruise) there is a choice of 3 free excursions but the other 4 (which do not include any private car excursions) have an unstated charge.  Looking at earlier Silversea NZ cruises I can figure out what the costs were for each of these excursions – but they haven't posted the prices for 2023 so I can't tell if they will reduce the cost of the optionals to reflect 'payment' for the basic ones in the cruise fare.

When I go to My Silverseas for the Nov. 2021 Dubai to Mubai cruise, there are no free excursions shown. Based on the price of the cruise (low) I can't see SS including excursions at no cost. I hope I am wrong!!

I can't see them being free either!! But I can't seem to find out the costs. I'm looking at a Silver Muse cruise in November and it lists the excursions but with no prices attached. Any idea where I can find the prices?

I think you’ll have to wait until the excursions open for reservations  as you’re well beyond the booking date at this point.

Thanks

Thanks for the clarification! 🙂

The complimentary cruise excursions start with 2022 calender ...yes one per day but I think there is a choice of 2 maybe 3  to choose from per day 🚢

5 minutes ago, Lvshack said: The complimentary cruise excursions start with 2022 calendar...

Not until April 2022 on all ships, according to SS's CMO.  For example, our February 2022 voyage on the Moon does not have the complimentary excursions.

It starts march with Mediterranean cruise itinerary ( yes late march going into April)

So yes free excursions start 2022 sorry 😞

As far as I can tell, included excursions on the Shadow don't start until May 2022. I can't find it, but there's an announcement to that effect somewhere--each ship is on a different timetable.

Alaska with Silversea, Silver Muse

Dawes up close

Jill Romano, Owner and Travel Advisor, August 9-18, 2021

Silversea Silver Muse, Alaska

What, When, Why, Where!

What?    Silversea, Silver Muse 11-day sailing out of Seattle, to Ketchikan, Sitka, Icy Straights, Skagway, Endicot Arm and Juneau

When? August 9-18, 2021

Why? Invited to experience the  Return to Cruising  with Silverseas! Where?  Alaska – don’t wait, go now and go often!

Brilliant Sunshine for our sail away from Seattle!  Looking forward to our next two days at Sea.  Love the Sea Days, where you can enjoy a lazy morning with room service while you plan your day.  Should I settle in for the Voyage Review with the Shore Concierge, listen to the guest lecture “From Glaciers to Sea” or enjoy the complimentary wine tasting – so many choices, and that is all before lunch!

Travel Tip for Today:  Deck 7 is where you want to be those for easy access to La Terazza restaurant, morning, noon or night on the same floor.

Another glorious day at Sea, catching up on a work is easy with Silverseas newly updated wi-fi. Rates are reasonable for the premium package, great for those that love to stream rather than watch the cruise line TV and Movie line up. A few new friends joined us for part of the day – dolphins! Dinner at Indochine was scrumptious especially the seafood curry! Think of this as the place where the spice markets of Mumbai, blend with the flavors of Thailand and Vietnam.

Travel Tip for Today: Deck 8, for those that enjoy quick access to the shops or my favorite, the Arts Cafe, an intimate cafe for small bites from breakfast until late evening. Enjoy your lattes and tea sandwiches in the afternoon…oh and did I mention the cookies and desserts!

Today’s Port – Ketchikan Arrived via the Tongass Narrows, be sure to be up early to watch the Alaskan scenery from your balcony or the comfort of your suite.  Our local guide says, “there are 2 seasons “Winter and August”!

Travel Tip for Today: Take a scroll down Creek Street, the painted houses just a few blocks from the pier and enjoy the artisan shops or pick up a souvenir of two!

Our Favorite Excursion:   Rainforest and Raptor Center Tour – easy walk about 1.5 hours, unique rain forest as Alaska has no topsoil. Even saw a bear wandering through the woods and another down by the stream where the salmon are trying to get back into the hatchery. Brief, but well-done visit to the raptor center, with a Red Tail hawk, female bald eagle and a peregrine falcon – all rescues. Interesting visit and talk by the gentleman that has taken over his uncle’s totem carving business and the old mill.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Icy Straits: Fascinating, small port, quite near Juneau (35 miles away) Short gondola ride for those that want to see a bit of the island, walking a short way to the old cannery and shops. The village prides itself on being home to more “brown bears, than humans”.  This is the place to be adventurous, ATV and Jeep expeditions to zip lining through the canopy of trees to kayaks and canoes and of course whale and orca excursions…there is something for everyone.

Travel Tip for Today: Great port for bear viewing and whale watching….or try the Ziprider!!!

Icy Straits, Alaska

Dinner at Atlantide: An elegant bar and grill where everyone can easily find a favorite or two! No better way to start your meal than with Caviar! Always a favorite of mine, consume soup and each time it was beautifully presented and delicious!

Dinner Atlantide Silverrsea Silver Muse

Sitka Rough seas and pouring with rain, sadly we were not able to visit, this time but this is the place where Alaska’s native, Russian and American history comes together! There are many tours to choose from, ATV expeditions, whale watching cruises, bear viewing excursions, etc.  Be sure to save a little time to explore by walking around the town and be sure to include St. Michaels Cathedral, Sheldon Jackson Museum, Castle Hill, Sitka National Historical Park and the Alaska Raptor Center.

Travel Tip for Today: Inside the charming Cable House, the Larkspur Café is a cozy gem, favored by the locals.  Be sure to try the salmon chowder, sockeye lox and rockfish tacos!

Sitka, Alaska

Skagway Easy walk into town if you are not doing a shore excursion – highly recommend the White Pass Scenic Railway (departs from a rail line, steps from the ship) ferries over to Haines, visit the Skagway Museum or a variety of wildlife viewing excursions.  Remember, as you walk around the town, forms part of the Klondike Gold Rush National History Park!

Travel Tip for Today: “Did you know…why there are so many jewelry stores in Skagway…it’s because there a max of $132 dollars tax place on any jewelry purchase, no matter the price! So do your shopping here!

Dinner at Kaiseki Tonight Reservations required and a small booking fee.  You can eat at the bar as you watch them prepare each delicious dish or choose for a table for 2 or 4.  Each dish was beautifully presented and delish!

Skagway, Alaska

Juneau: Morning Mendenhall glacier and whale watching photo safari through Gastineau Tours is a Must here! Short ride to the harbor about 20 mins, great commentary along the way, combing local history, beautiful sights like Auke Lake (Auke is the Tlingit word for “little lake”, so it’s Little Lake, Lake!) Great captain, worked for the Coast Guard for years, now working these trips, full of local insights into daily life. Our guide was excellent, working about 20 years and thrilled to be working again! Quick set up for everyone with cameras and a pointer or two for the Camera/Phone users such as, when you take a video, “start” with the phone horizontal, if you start vertical and then turn…. the video will record in vertical only and you will miss 1/3 of the scene.

Juneau, Alaska

Great time of year to see the whales, they are feeding like crazy, and we saw 15+ very near our boat and both the captain and guide were able to tell us, by their tale markings, which whales they know…it was like listening to someone greeting an old friend “look there’s Sasha!” “Over there is Flame and her calf, Bolt” (named for the lightning bolt marking on his tail!)

Travel Tip for Today:   Remember, after madly taking photos and video…put everything down (maybe the binoculars too) and just watch and enjoy…these are precious moments with these majestic mammals.

Short ride Back Loop Road towards the start of our walking tour up to Mendenhall glacier. Gentle walk, through the rainforest, feels a bit like Hobbit Land! Our guide took time to point out where the bears have been feeding on the various plants, the flora and fauna as well as how to approach taking photographs.

Travel Tip for Today: If you can, get down low and look back up towards your subject (everyone else will take theirs from above…get a different perspective)

We photographed a variety of interesting mushrooms, the Devils Claw, very transparent so take a picture from underneath! And of course, waters walls and streams…currently full of spawning salmon. Markers along the route signal where the glacier was in the early 1900’s outlying the speed at which it has been moving. Did you know…the ground under your feet is rising at an average of one inch per year! Why, it’s due to glacial isostatic adjustment the pressure from the glaciers, once they have passed through, releases and the ground begins to rise again, fascinating!

Travel Tip for Today: This type of tour also provides some great vantage points to view the glacier, many tours only take you to the Visitors Center and the effect is very minimal.

Juneau, Alaska

Endicott Arm – Dawes Glacier This was a last-minute change as we were due to visit Tracy Arm but as the ship cannot get in very close, they opted for Endicott Arm. A “must see/do” is the catamaran trip into Dawes glacier. Normally this starts out early in Juneau, but Silverseas arranged for the boat to moor alongside and 120 pax were able to easily board and head out on our journey. Along the way we stopped at Ford’s Terror and Wedding Cake falls, with commentary along the way. But everyone was waiting to see the glacier and we were not disappointed! While the Silver Muse was able to get up to about a mile away, not a bad view for those on board…. we were right up within about a 1/4 of a mile to see this wondrous, wall of ice, with spikes like high-rise buildings. The sound of silence broken only by the “bang” as the ice calved – wow!!!

Dawes Glacier

Returned to the ship in time for lunch and continued to enjoy the view of the Dawes glacier from La Terazza restaurant!

Travel Tip for Today: Board early if you can and sit on Deck 1, front row, great view. At each stop, they open up access to Deck 2 and 3, where this is plenty of room to view and take pictures. Deck 2 has 2 levels, so if you don’t find a place at the railing, you will still get a great view. Top Deck, go up at least once, but be prepared, even without the wind, it’s a bit chilly!

Two more wonderful days at sea, so it’s off to the Zagara Beauty Spa for a bit of pampering before I decide what else to do! Today we turn the clocks forward one hour as we make our way back down the coastline to Seattle.

Travel Tip for Today: “If you love Caviar, like I love Caviar” you can order it  anytime, anywhere  on the ship.  I enjoyed this with a cocktail up in the Observation Library on Deck 11 as we sailed along, at dinner in Indochine and in our suite.

Travel | travel: alaska is ready for another record-breaking cruise season.

silver muse excursions

Alaska is home to more than 30,000 grizzlies, but the state’s cruise industry is experiencing anything but a bear market as momentum of last year’s record-breaking season is expected to continue in 2024.

Looking at the most-visited Alaskan port as a proxy for the ship-shape southeastern side of the state, Juneau set a new mark a year ago with 1.65 million passengers descending on the capital city during cruise season, which generally runs from early April to late October. That figure from the Juneau Chamber of Commerce is a Danali-sized jump of 30% compared to the previous mark set in pre-pandemic 2019.

Coinciding with Alaska’s 65th anniversary of statehood, the upcoming cruise season appears to be just as robust with 19 cruise lines sending 43 ships to the Last Frontier. Kicking things off for the second straight year is the 4,008-passenger Norwegian Bliss, which is scheduled to dock in rustic Skagway on April 8. With four mainstream-category ships homeported in either Seattle or Vancouver, Norwegian Cruise Line ( ncl.com ) has nearly 100 more after that. Impressive, but two competing companies have staked out larger claims in this modern-day, maritime Alaskan gold rush; Holland America Line ( hollandamerica.com ) is sending seven premium-class ships for 141 total cruises, and at the top of the totem pole is Princess Cruises ( princess.com ), which is celebrating its 55th year in these waters with seven premium ships sharing 158 departures.

Not counting grand voyages with itineraries so rich that they make a visit to Alaska seem more like a pitstop, this cruise season will see more than 800 trips of mostly seven to 10 days starting or ending on this side of the Pacific. Where they’re all going is a destination rich in unparallel wilderness, wildlife and native culture. In other words, bucket list stuff.

“Alaska is one of those places that draws you in and sets the hook right away,” said Kristi Switzer, destination marketing manager for Travel Juneau ( traveljuneau.com ). “Visitors come for the otherworldly experience of being in the presence of glaciers and fjords, seeing whales and bears, and finding the balance of Alaska Native cultural heritage with the rustic sophistication found in the capital city and other places within this magnificent state.”

Sometimes just seeing a whale's tail is a win when on an Alaskan tour. (Photo by David Dickstein)

Although Switzer recommends visits lasting several days instead of several hours, the city’s destination evangelist hopes that a partial day in Juneau and each major Alaskan cruise port has over 1.5 million passengers wanting more.

“This magical corner of the world has so much to offer beyond being a checkmark on people’s bucket lists,” she said. “Make time to enjoy the fascinating culture, spectacular outdoor recreation, unique shopping, amazing restaurants and artist galleries that Juneau and all of Southeast Alaska have to offer.”

Walking on a glacier is one of the more exciting shore excursions Alaska has to offer. (Photo by David Dickstein)

Alaska is a checkmark for about three-quarters of all passengers headed there, according to the Alaska Tourism Industry Association, and the same can be said for two ships this season.

Starting with a six-day sail out of Vancouver on May 11, the namesake of Celebrity Cruises’ ( celebritycruises.com ) popular Edge class will make her Alaskan debut with weeklong roundtrips from Seattle through Sept. 13. The 2,918-passenger vessel features a unique “outside-in” architecture that provides more floor-to-ceiling glass on the exterior and expanded outdoor spaces to soak up the Alaskan coastlines.

Skagway, a popular cruise port, is the northernmost point in Alaska's Inside Passage. (Photo by David Dickstein)

Edge will be joined by a pair of fleet mates for the season, albeit Summit’s seven-day roundtrips are turnarounds out of Anchorage or Vancouver and Solstice’s weeklong jaunts are solely based in the British Columbian seaport. Celebrity, a premier-category cruise line, meaning it’s between the economical mainstream class and pricy luxury level, has 57 departures to Alaska scheduled this year.

The other new recruit is Silver Nova, the youngest Silversea Cruises ( silversea.com ) ship in the luxury fleet to ever service Alaska. Capped at 728 guests, Silver Nova was launched last year and has the goods to do justice to a dreamlike place that captures the imagination of wilderness lovers and history buffs.

“Silver Nova is the ideal ship for Alaska cruising,” said company spokesman Brad Ball. “Her innovative design, which prizes openness over symmetry and incorporates an unprecedented use of approximately 4,000 square meters of glass, immerses guests into the incredible scenery of Alaska from virtually all venues and suites, with far-reaching views at every turn.”

While in Skagway, let happy and hard-working sled dogs take you on a spin around Musher's Camp. (Photo by David Dickstein)

The ship’s reimagined pool deck, which overlooks the water on her starboard side, and all-new outdoor venues — the Dusk Bar and the Marquee — allows unique openness to view spectacular Alaskan glaciers and wildlife. Those who want to experience an older and smaller Evolution-class Silversea vessel can book the Silver Muse, which also will sail mostly seven- to 14-day trips between Anchorage and Vancouver.

Because nearly every Alaskan cruise includes the staples — Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Inside Passage, and Denali with a land add-on — some cruise lines like to shake things up with unique itineraries.

Holland America has a roundtrip that makes it easy to visit the 49th and 50th states without a long flight. A new “Glaciers & Volcanos: Alaska to Hawaii” cruise, part of the premium line’s Legendary Voyages collection of journeys from 25 to 59 days, departs on Aug. 31 from Seattle or Sept. 1 from Vancouver aboard the 1,916-passenger Westerdam. The near-four-week-long itinerary includes seldomly visited Kodiak and Dutch Harbor before heading down to the tropics to make four calls to three Hawaiian islands.

Seabourn ( seabourn.com ) strives to offer a more tasteful Alaskan cruise and not only because it’s an ultra-luxury cruise line. “Caviar on the Ice” is a savory and swanky soiree on every Alaskan voyage, and when the 450-passenger Odyssey is in Sitka, a town originally built by Russian traders in the early 1800s, Seabourn guests can enjoy a culinary adventure that includes a scenic drive to a taproom for a sampling of local brews and a few eateries to try Siberian-rooted pelmeni dumplings and a hot dog made with caribou that the locals call “reindeer dawgs.” Sorry, vegetarians and friends of Santa, but Blitzen on a bun is da bomb.

Red Onion Saloon, a former bordello built in 1898, is a top attraction in historic Skagway. (Photo by David Dickstein)

Carnival Cruise Line ( carnival.com ) is staying with a three-ship deployment in Alaska this season. Sharing the workload of 55 roundtrips generally lasting seven to 11 days are Carnival Spirit (2,610 passengers) and Carnival Luminosa (2,260) out of Seattle, and Carnival Miracle (2,667) from San Francisco. Another mainstream cruise line, Royal Caribbean ( royalcaribbean.com ), has four ships making 85 runs to Alaska from Seattle, Vancouver and Anchorage: Ovation of the Seas, (4,905) and older sister Quantum of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas (2,543) and Radiance of the Seas (2,466).

Disney Cruise Line ( disneycruise.com ) is sending its 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder out of Vancouver for 15 week-long roundtrips, one five-day spin leaving on July 24 and an extended nine-day voyage on July 15.

Other cruise lines showing passengers a whale of a time in Alaska include Crystal, Cunard, Hurtigruten, Lindblad/National Geographic, Oceania, Ponant, Regent Seven Seas and Viking.

Silversea broadens pricing structure, enhancing the luxury of choice for guests.

Diversifying its range of pricing options to accommodate guests’ varying preferences, Silversea has complemented its popular Door-to-Door all-inclusive fare with an enhanced Port-to-Port all-inclusive fare and a new Essential fare

(Miami – March 19, 2024) Offering travelers the luxury of choice, Silversea – the leading ultra-luxury cruise travel brand – has broadened its pricing structure to include three fare options, catering for guests’ varied preferences. Complementing its popular Door-to-Door all-inclusive fare, which provides guests with a seamless journey that starts and ends at their homes, Silversea has enhanced its Port-to-Port all-inclusive fare, which is now available on all voyages. Now included in Silversea’s Fare Guarantee program, the Port-to-Port fare will henceforth be eligible for the same promotions and savings as the Door-to-Door fare. Moreover, Silversea has introduced a new voyage-only Essential fare for time-pushed guests seeking experiential flexibility.

“We are delighted to offer our guests a broadened pricing structure to accommodate a more diverse array of preferences, providing the luxury of choice,” said Roberto Verdino, Silversea’s SVP of Revenue Management. “We believe choice is at the heart of true luxury. Enjoying a more customized range of pricing options, guests can tailor their experience by opting for our Door-to-Door, Port-to-Port or Essential fare, while still benefitting from the superlative service and the other hallmarks of luxury that they have come to expect from Silversea.”

THE LUXURY OF CHOICE

The addition of the new Essential fare broadens Silversea’s pricing structure, which the brand refers to as ‘The Luxury of Choice.’ It provides Silversea’s discerning guests with the flexibility to book the experience that best suits their lifestyle, preference, and priorities. The three fares include:

  • Door-to-Door All-Inclusive Fare : Featuring a price guarantee, Silversea’s most popular fare option includes a seamless journey that starts and ends at guests’ homes. The Door-to-Door all-inclusive fare encompasses private executive transfers between home and airport, international flights with Business Class upgrades available at reduced rates, shore excursions, and more — making it one of the most competitive and comprehensive all-inclusive fares in the industry.
  • Port-to-Port All-Inclusive Fare : A recently enhanced option, the Port-to-Port all-inclusive fare has been expanded to include all voyages, and provides an ideal choice for those who prefer to make independent pre- and post-cruise travel arrangements, but still want shore excursions included. As well as benefitting from the Fare Guarantee program, guests sailing on Silversea’s Port-to-Port fares will now be able to benefit from the same promotions and savings as those sailing on Door-to-Door fares.
  • Essential Fare : Silversea’s new value-rich, voyage-only fare option features all onboard inclusive amenities and services on a selection of soon-to-depart voyages while offering guests the flexibility to arrange their own air, transfers, and shore experiences according to their schedule. With stricter terms and conditions, the time-sensitive Essential fare does not include shore excursions on ocean-going voyages, yet includes shore excursions, expedition gear, and charter flights when booked for expedition voyages.

Silversea’s new Essential fare - as well as its Door-to-Door and Port-to-Port all-inclusive fares - is available on the following voyages, among a broad selection:

  • Seward (Anchorage) to Vancouver, May 16 – 23, 2024

The authentic beauty and rich history of Alaska come alive as Silver Nova explores a melting pot of breathtaking experiences. From watching pods of humpback whales and enjoying an Alaska-style beach bonfire to kayaking among frigid waters and tasting local reindeer sausage, this oceangoing voyage delights both the eyes and taste buds. Guests get up close and personal with the magnificent Hubbard Glacier and discover the frontier town of Sitka. The scenic and cultural treasures of Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and the Inside Passage round out the voyage, before guests disembark in beautiful Vancouver, Canada’s most striking city.

  • Reykjavík to Churchill, Manitoba, June 29 – July 15, 2024

On this expedition voyage aboard Silver Endeavour , guests depart from Reykjavík, Iceland, to discover Greenland’s layers of unique culture and history. Six days are devoted to this Inuit world of ice-laden fjords and snow-capped peaks, before guests sail to Canada for an even more remote experience. Zodiac cruises, kayak opportunities, and hikes reveal endless mountains, glaciers, tundra, remote rocky shorelines, towering granite cliffs, and unending bodies of water during eight days of adventure in the Canadian High Arctic. Guests are encouraged to keep their binoculars handy as the wildlife here is superb: bears, muskoxen, beluga whales, harp seals, walruses, and migratory birds, among other species.

  • Athens (Piraeus) to Venice (Fusina), July 19 – 30, 2024

Silversea’s new flagship, Silver Ray , sets sail under a splendid sun to enjoy some of the Adriatic’s greatest treasures. This oceangoing journey opens in the western Mediterranean with Athens’ iconic Acropolis and Santorini’s blue domes. A sapphire sea day delivers guests to Corfu and Kotor to enjoy a dive into warm waters and a feast of fresh fare. Then the ship heads over to the Adriatic, to Italy’s Bari, before sailing Croatia for four amazing ports: Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, and Zadar. Trieste is the final port of call before guests disembark in Italy’s floating city of Venice.

THE ALL-INCLUSIVE ADVANTAGE

At the heart of all three unique fare options is a comprehensive all-inclusive shipboard experience. Aboard Silversea’s ultra-luxury ships, guests benefit from such inclusions as butler service for every suite category; multiple restaurants serving diverse cuisine; an in-suite, 24-hour dining service; wines, spirits, and beverages served throughout the ship; onboard gratuities; and unlimited, complimentary Wi-Fi.
