London Luxury Trip: 9 Extravagant Things to Do in the City

E nglish writer and poet Samuel Johnson once said “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”

No matter how many times I’ve been to London , my heart still skips a beat as the plane approaches the city below. There’s just something special about this place where each visit brings its own magic.

On my last trip to the United Kingdom, I decided to do something very different. This London getaway was about doing it in high luxury style. And why not? Who would say no to a London Luxury Trip? We all had to put travel on hold for so long, it was about time to treat myself to an amazing time in one of the most magnificent cities in the world.

Flying on Virgin Atlantic

Prior to embarking on this London luxury travel trip, I’d never flown Virgin Atlantic. So, here’s my word of warning. Once you do, you are spoiled forever. I was thrilled to get upgraded to their “upper class” cabin, known as “first-class” on other airlines. But honestly, every passenger is treated like gold on this stellar airline.

Onboard, the flight attendant offered me a glass of champagne and escorted me to my seat. Not just a seat as it converts into a fully flat bed with the touch of a button. I could personally select my meals, which were absolutely top-notch and served on China. After more wine, followed by English tea and desserts, it was time to settle in for the night. My bed was made up for me, and a flight attendant handed me a bag with soft jammies, slippers, and toiletries.

We all know the feeling of jet lag on red-eye flights. But that didn’t happen this time as I arrived in London the next morning rested, refreshed, and ready to explore.

Staying at The Londoner

Premiering in 2021, The Londoner is owned and operated by Edwardian Hotels London and is unlike anything the hotel industry has ever seen. It’s the largest boutique hotel in the world, an engineering feat, and an absolutely sensational place to stay.

One of the top benefits of staying at The Londoner is its location right in the heart of the city. Situated in Leicester Square in the West End, the hotel is within walking distance or a short taxi ride from many London favorites. I’ve been to London on numerous visits, and believe me, this hotel is ideal for exploring this vibrant city.

Doormen greet visitors in formal attire and each guest is seated and offered tea during check-in.  I was escorted to my gorgeous corner suite with stunning views of the city, the London Eye, and Big Ben. The best surprise was when the bellman pointed out that right outside my bathroom window was the home Isaac Newton once lived in.

My king-sized bed featured 400 thread count Irish linen, feather down pillows, and a luxurious mattress topper.  The bathroom sported a marble vanity, illuminated theatre mirror, high-end bath products, a super soft plush bathrobe, and cushioned slippers. Unbelievably, there’s even a premium Japanese Toto washlet (toilet) with a heated seat.

With its high-end restaurants, incredible service, and stunning décor, this is perhaps the best luxury boutique hotel in London to treat yourself to the best of lavish experiences. A stay here is definitely a must on your London Luxury Trip! Book your stay at the Londoner here>>

Treat Yourself to a Spa Day

Hotel guests of The Londoner have access to an amazingly tranquil and beautiful Hydro pool surrounded by private cabanas. But most take advantage of The Retreat, located on an entire subterranean floor to disconnect, unplug, and relax in an immersive therapeutic environment.

This Retreat is a sanctuary offering pampering, holistic remedies, body treatments, and massage therapy. Patrons can choose from several treatments from soothing to deep tissue. My 60-minute relaxing massage was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Afterward, a swim in the pool followed by a healthy vitamin-infused beverage in my private cabana was a perfect finish to a perfect spa day.

Immerse in the Tradition of Afternoon Tea

Pinkies up, and let’s go. You can’t be in London and not imbibe in the marvelous and unforgettable tradition of British afternoon tea. This English pastime was introduced by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840 and remains a bedrock of British culture.

It was spectacular, not only because I was staying at the hotel, but it’s well known that The Londoner has one of the very best afternoon teas, even attended by some members of the Royal family.

Reservations are required for this must-do experience. The observance is impeccably carried out here beginning with champagne followed by a choice of English teas, an impressive sandwich tower, followed by a delightfully delectable selection of artesian patisseries. Waiters are formally dressed, the tea is accompanied by live piano, and whole the experience is like a ballet performance executed to perfection. The only thing missing was Mary Poppins!

Take in a Play at the West End

I love Broadway but there’s nothing like attending a live play performance in London’s famous theatre district known as the West End.

London’s West End is a vibrant cultural hub that’s home to spectacular shopping, a top-notch restaurant scene, and a world-renowned theatre district.

Visitors can book plays in advance to some incredible shows as Wicked, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, The Glass Menagerie, and so many more. I had the privilege of seeing Hamilton at the stunning Victoria Palace Theatre on a past family trip. We all loved it, and attending this spectacular performance in London just takes the cake!

Schedule a Magnificent Dining Experience

A must-do for those taking in a West End play is to dine at one of London’s top pre-theatre restaurants.

If there was a reward for the most glamorous and elegant of London restaurants, my vote goes to the Savoy Grill . This 1920s-style dining room is located in one of London’s most iconic landmarks, the Savoy Hotel situated on the banks of the scenic River Thames. This fine-dining establishment has played host to some of the biggest stars ever to grace the silver screen like Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, Sophia Loren, and Laurence Olivier. Not to mention the likes of Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, and many famous writers and poets.

The Michelin starred restaurant has been restored to its former glory days alluring theatre-goers and those wanting a special romantic dinner for two. Two and three-course pre-theatre meals feature the amazing combination of British and French-inspired cuisine prepared to perfection. The menu includes incredible classics like caviar, foie gras, beef Wellington, Dover sole, Lobster Thermador, and prime-aged steaks.

Every visitor should try the Savoy Grill at least once. Dishes are divine, service is impeccable, and you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported back to a more elegant time with its shimmering chandeliers, polished wood, burnished mirrors, and white-clothed, candlelit tables. It’s a dining experience you’ll long remember.

If you’re looking for high-end (meaning 155-meters high) with stunning sunset views, you’ll love dining at London’s highest public garden. You can book a free ticket for a look at Sky Garden during the week or better yet, dine at Fenchurch Restaurant , a not-to-be-missed Contemporary British foodie experience sporting seasonal ingredients, innovative flavor combinations, and beautiful presentations.

Book a Private Tour

From famous stories and iconic attractions to high style, London is many things in the blink of an eye.  There are so many things to do, you could tour it for months on end and barely get to know it. Of course, travelers can visit the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the National Gallery and so many other iconic landmarks on their own. But if you’re looking for something very unique and special in a more up-close-and-personal fashion, booking a private tour can provide unforgettable memories of the splendorous side of London.

Noteworthy Exquisite Travel Experiences offers a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes opportunities, specializing in itineraries that suit every member of the family, no matter their age or interests.  Guides and hosts bring history to life with fun, entertaining, and educational stories.

Imagine a visit to London’s iconic Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace, with a ring-side view away from the crowds clustered on the other side of the fence. How about riding in a private capsule on the London Eye, or a thrilling haunted tour around the Tower of London? History buffs would love to get behind the glass barriers of Churchill’s untouched War Rooms, wander Prince Charles’ Garden at Highgrove, or dine in the Orangery at Kensington Palace.

On my next London itinerary, I plan to visit Highclere Castle, the 300-room home of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon — more famously known as ‘Downton Abbey’ from the hit British TV series.

Visit a Royal Park

Central London’s Hyde Park is the largest of the city’s four Royal Parks. Hyde Park encompasses 350 acres forming a chain from the entrance of Kensington Palace through Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, and past the main entrance to Buckingham Palace. The stunningly picturesque park was once the recreational hunting grounds of King Henry VIII.

The tranquil atmosphere of the park and gardens is unparalleled anywhere else in the city and Kensington Palace – the London home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – sits on the gardens’ western edge. With famous statues, bandstands, picture-perfect rose gardens, crystalline meandering Serpentine Lake, and the beautiful Princess Diana fountain, a visit to this incredibly splendid park is a not-to-be-missed experience.

Shop in London High Style

If you appreciate glamour, new fashion, and shopping in style, you’ll love London. From its fabulous department stores, fascinating boutiques, and alluring perfume shops, this shi-shi trend-setting city is a shopper’s paradise.

The locals will say that if you’re a true Londoner, the only place to shop is Selfridge’s for its luxe air and awesome array of goods. Personally, I love Harrod’s – one of the largest and most iconic department stores in the world. I love the beauty and decadence of The Egyptian Hall, and Harrods’ colorful food halls, famous in their own right.

Covent Garden is one of London’s most popular shopping districts, home to a wide range of world-class fashion, beauty, and lifestyle stores. From Tom Ford and Mulberry to Polo Ralph Lauren and Tiffany & Co., this is the place to see and be seen.

So, the next time you’re planning a visit to Britain’s capital–one of the coolest, most modern cities in the world, consider doing it as a high-style London luxury trip. Trust me, it will be an amazing experience!

Special thanks to Anastasia for arranging the flights and being available to help at all times, even very late at night when my flight was cancelled, and the entire team who helped the event run so smoothly. Pestana Palace Hotel was a perfect venue and the gala dinner at Valle Flor Restaurant was a superb memorable evening. Once again thanks to the entire team”

  • I enjoyed meeting exhibitors from smaller independent companies who were very knowledgable and passionate about what they do. Visitor
  • All the exhibitors were very helpful in planning future breaks and showed passion and interests in the places they promoted and were very knowledgeable in there fields. Visitor
  • I spoke to a number of stands and gained an interest in visiting other parts of the world I had not considered, for example Israel, and driving overland in South America Visitor
  • Really good to meet hosts of travel companies for ideas and inspiration of the world and the opportunities for all ages, abilities with something to suit everyone. Visitor
  • Fantastic event. Great opportunity to learn more about the destinations from the experts face to face. As a result we booked a tour we had hardly considered before going to the show. Visitor
  • Gives you a great opportunity to talk to people who have first hand experience of where you want to travel too, they always have great passion and enthusiasm

The Best Luxury Travel Trade Shows in 2022/23 That Are Actually Worth Attending

In 2021, we were ecstatic about the return to in-person events in the luxury travel industry. Long-forgotten outfits were unearthed from our wardrobes, hands were shaken and cheeks were kissed, LinkedIn connections multiplied, and the dark days of the pandemic started to fade from our memories.

Sure, there were also some invite-only trade shows that maybe should have spent 2020 reconsidering the value of their events in a post-COVID landscape, but we’ve already shared our thoughts on THAT particular issue .

We’ve been seeing some significant changes in the last year or so in both the travel and recruitment industry, as company values, purpose and mission become much more of a priority for customers and employees. We’re living in increasingly turbulent times, and anyone refusing to acknowledge this runs the risk of being forgotten about in favour of competitors that are passionate about highlighting inequality or bringing about change.

So this time around, when it comes to choosing which travel events to attend we’re not only considering the value of the trade show, but also whether our attendance will benefit an organisation that deserves our support.

In particular, we want to highlight the shows that are taking place in LGBTQ+ safe destinations. Despite the progress being made for this community, it’s still a scary (and sometimes illegal) time to be an LGBTQ+ individual in plenty of countries around the world, and if an event is held in a location that isn’t safe for everyone to attend, we don’t want to know about it.

We also want to shine a light on the luxury travel trade shows that are led by companies and (some of our favourite) influential industry figures that actually walk the walk when it comes to purpose, values and making a positive difference in their industry sector.

Forget about trying to sift through long-winded lists of every single luxury travel trade show happening in the next 12 months. Here’s our guide to the events that are actually worth attending (and are safe for everyone to do so!) in 2022/23.

Proud Experiences 2023

When: 5th - 7th June 2023

Where: Los Angeles, California

Proud Experiences is one of the best and most-loved LGBTQ+ events in the travel industry, directed by industry icon Simon Mayle who also directs several other ILTM events and is an out and proud member of the community. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other LGBTQ+ people in the travel industry, discuss and learn about the kinds of issues faced by this demographic in travel and beyond, and network with businesses seeking to embrace and elevate the LGBTQ+ community.

In 2023, Proud Experiences will be taking place at the start of June in Los Angeles at the Fairmont Century Plaza, consisting of three days of exhibits, workshops, masterclasses and talks from a variety of exciting names and organisations. It’s an incredibly safe and inclusive LGBTQ+ space, and we can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a travel trade show that is proud to show off its true colours.

IGLTA Global Convention

When: 26th - 29th October 2022

Where: Milan, Italy

Founded in 1983, IGLTA is a world-leading organisation that organises trips and events for its huge network of LGBT-welcoming tourism businesses. Not only do they organise a wide range of conferences, networking events and activities that are queer-friendly, but they also work hard to promote safe and equal tourism and travel opportunities for LGBTQ+ people and share plenty of free resources to help make this happen.

The IGLTA Global Convention is a classic event in the LGBTQ+ travel community calendar that we’ll always recommend, not only because we’re friends with its wonderful South Africa Membership Organiser, Martina Barth . The 38th edition of this event is taking place in the fabulous Italian city of Milan and promises a fantastic schedule of networking lunches, education sessions and a buyer/supplier marketplace.

Did we mention that the opening reception is held in a 15th-century mediaeval castle? Count us in!

Connections

If you’re looking for luxury travel events in particular then the ones organised by  Connections  are your best place to start. Organised for an exclusive group of members working in this industry sector, Connections was founded in 2014 to develop a new and meaningful approach to networking by facilitating memorable and enjoyable experiences to spark real connection and conversation.

We’re incredibly excited about the fact that Gregory Reeves is now at the helm of these events after the departure of Micaela Giacobbe, as well as the fact that one of our favourites, Sam Blundsdon , has returned as a business development manager. The team and the events they organise are all with purpose and have strong values at their core, which we love to see in a market that is often saturated with visibly glamorous events without any kind of substance.

It’s worth noting however that some Connections events are held in countries that aren’t LGBTQ-friendly. However, their commitment to diversity as a team and an MD who truly gives a sh*t and is keen to see change in the industry puts them as THE luxury invite shows to invest in, ahead of companies like This is Beyond. Below are several shows that we’d highly recommend attending.

Connections Luxury London

When:  25th - 29th September 2022

Where:  London, UK

Connections Luxury London is a brilliant UK-based event for those in the luxury travel industry that consists of the classic Connections agenda of meetings and experiences. It’s being held this September as part of Jacobs Media Group’s Global Travel Week, and applications are still open if you want to attend.

Connections Luxury Tokyo

When: 13th - 16th November 2022

Where: Tokyo, Japan

Connections Luxury Tokyo  is going to be the first B2B luxury travel event that has been held in the city since the pandemic, so it is bound to be an exciting occasion with plenty of opportunities. The immersive experiences that make Connections’ events so special will all be based around sampling elements of Japanese culture, so this is truly not a luxury event to be missing out on.

Connections Luxury Europe

When:  4th - 7th June 2023

Where:  Barcelona, Spain

Connections Luxury Europe is one of this organisation’s largest flagship events, so if you want to experience meeting buyers from all over the world, this is certainly the occasion to do so. It’s an exclusive event for members with a handpicked selection of attendees and businesses along with some seriously special experiences on offer.

Connections Luxury Adventure Madeira

When: 3rd - 6th September 2023

Where: Funchal, Portugal

Connections Luxury Adventure  took place for the first time in 2022, and was so successful that a 2023 event is already being organised. This event focuses on connecting buyers with suppliers that offer adventure travel experiences, all of the same luxury standard that you can expect from any Connections event.

Amour Global 2022

When: 19th - 22nd October 2022

Where: Cascais, Portugal

Amour Global 2022  is hosted by the team at Private Luxury Events, and whilst we can’t recommend their sister luxury travel show TFest due to its location in anti-LGBTQ+ Dubai, we’re big fans of the work of people like  Emily Brooks  and  Christy Kuplic  are doing in organising valuable and inspiring luxury travel shows and we are actively liaising with them on how to make their events more inclusive. Amour is a brand that specialises in luxury romance travel, and Amour Global 2022 brings together over 110 global buyers for three days of meetings and connection, this year in the beautiful setting of Cascais on the Portuguese coast.

No list of the best travel trade shows would be complete without  L.E/Miami . This event encapsulates everything we love about the travel industry, and we’re a massive fan of its director  Zahava Abend  for organising such an impactful and enjoyable event in the high-end travel sector.

The 2022 event has just taken place, and whilst dates have not yet been announced for next year’s gathering, we’re still including it on our list as a stand-out example of an inclusive event with strong values. L.E/Miami is invite-only, which creates a fantastic environment for business opportunities and discussion amongst a carefully curated group of individuals and organisations.

Their message is also to  “celebrate the people and brands that rebel against convention”  which we obviously support wholeheartedly!

Experience Africa

If you’ve been looking for an event specialising in African travel then stop what you’re doing right now. The search is over -  Experience Africa  is THE Africa trade show to attend, above all others. The 2022 event has just been and gone, but we’re already excited for what next year will bring.

Experience Africa is organised by The African Travel and Tourism Association, of which our friend Chris Mears is Executive Director, and offers fantastic bang for your buck, connecting buyers from across Europe and the UK with a wide range of African travel products and experiences. The offering is wonderfully diverse and there’s no other destination-specific show offering quite the same level of opportunities and seminars over several days.

We also wanted to give a shout-out to these legends for making their 2022 event happen in London despite it taking place during the biggest rail strike in the UK. Talk about an impressive organisation!

The International Women in Travel & Tourism Forum

When:  22nd June 2023

The  International Women in Travel & Tourism Forum  is organised by Women in Travel; a UK-based organisation that is dedicated to empowering those who identify as women through travel experiences, tourism and hospitality. Their annual forum may not be a specialist luxury event and it’s not invitation only, but we wanted to include it on our list as it’s a social enterprise with some seriously epic values. The 2022 summer event took place a few months ago, but the dates have already been released for next year’s event.

When:  2nd - 4th November 2022

Where:  New Orleans, Louisiana

SET is an invitation-only event that caters for business in the entertainment travel industry, running for the first time this November. We’re already big fans of SET because  Zahava Abend and industry icon Marine Rolland are behind it.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect is that it’s held in the vibrant city of New Orleans - yep, you heard that right! Not only can attendees enjoy meeting with 120 exhibitors and 130 buyers, but you also get to enjoy the hospitality of one of Louisiana’s most famous destinations.

Loop isn’t a single annual event. In fact, it prides itself on being more of a community that organises multiple different gatherings throughout the year that facilitate connections between buyers and businesses in the travel sector. It’s the only travel fair offering luxury and high-end business opportunities in the German-speaking and Central and Eastern European markets, making this a fantastic option if your company specialises in relevant destinations.

ILTM Cannes

When: 5th - 8th December 2022

Where: Cannes, France

ILTM Cannes  is a classic luxury travel event that we had to include on this list for its reputation and the impressive number of attendees. One of many ILTM events happening around the world, (some of which do not take place in LGBTQ+ friendly destinations…) ILTM is a great opportunity for anyone in luxury travel to meet with like-minded people, develop new business partnerships and enjoy spending several days in one of France’s most glamorous cities.

GBTA Convention

The Global Business Travel Association is an organisation connecting companies in the business travel sector, and their  annual convention  has been taking place for over 50 years and is a fantastic choice for anyone working in this area. The 2022 event has just taken place, so keep your eyes peeled for the 2023 dates, as this is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into what the future holds for business travel.

Virtuoso Travel Week

Virtuoso Travel Week is an annual global travel community event and one of the world’s biggest luxury travel conferences. The extended length of this event means that attendees are given more than enough time to arrange meetings and enjoy fruitful networking opportunities, leaving the event with a host of new ideas and business connections to build on in the following months.

The most recent Virtuoso Travel Week took place in the summer of 2022, but as such an influential and popular event in luxury travel, we’d recommend you start planning to attend the 2023 show already. This year a virtual event was also held, which is great news in terms of making the occasion more accessible for everybody.

Final Thoughts

We’re absolutely loving how many industry names and events are committing to promoting strong values and championing inclusion, as this list demonstrates. Many events still have a way to go in improving accessibility and ensuring that any ‘elite’ status associated with luxury travel doesn’t stop a diverse range of attendees, but the names we’ve highlighted in this post are proof that there is some really inspiring progress being made.

And as for the popular events that you’re not seeing on this list… We’re ready and waiting to see if they will make the necessary changes to make the cut next year.

London Luxury Vacations

Truly the world’s most international and multicultural city, London is a never-ending urban adventure mixed with a long-established undercurrent of courteous and cultivated charm. This city is very skilled at welcoming visitors – around 30 million each year. Infinitely cool and cultured – a nucleus of music, art, fashion, and food – London is where you’re guaranteed to find “the next big thing.” Reach into the city’s rich history, significant architecture, unique landmarks, and endlessly interesting neighborhoods. Or simply find a quiet pub and enjoy a pint.

Iconic barely covers it. London is loaded with things to see and do, many requiring repeat visits to get the full effect. Let the city sink in via the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, then overlay that with stops at the Tate Modern art gallery, the London Eye Ferris wheel, and even more views from the Shangri-La Hotel at the top of the Shard. Move

on to the neighborhoods that strike your fancy: the open markets of Notting Hill and Covent Garden, the squares of Green Park, the peaceful corners of Hyde Park, and the hills of Hampstead Heath. Fill up on the restaurants of Soho, the cocktail bars of Clerkenwell and Shoreditch, and the world-class live theatre in the West End. The countless luxury

boutique hotels will have you hotel-hopping to get the most out of the city’s different enclaves. The finer things in life await in various quadrants – Belgravia, Chelsea, St. James, and Westminster. Pull out all the shopping stops along Oxford Street, at Liberty and Fortnum & Mason on Regent Street, at Harrod’s and Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge. The high-end boutiques of New Bond Street and Old Bond Street will keep you busy for hours, as will the tailors of Saville Row – perhaps even for days.

25 of the Best Travel Shows About London, England

travel shows about london

Whether you're researching a possible trip to London or you just want to do a bit of armchair travelling, there are loads of great travel shows to help you get a sense of what it's like. We're firm believers in doing your research and figuring out what YOU want to see, not what old guidebooks say you should see – and watching a variety of travel shows can definitely help you narrow it down.

Table of Contents

The Best Travel Shows About London, England

Our top pick.

luxury travel show london

Footloose in London: All the Best Sights of Our Capital – 2016 – Presented by native Brits Dave and Debra Rixon and clocking in at 1 hour 46 minutes long, this is the video we recommend to anyone who's only planning on watching one. It includes all the major sights plus tips on how to get around more affordably – because anyone who's done much travelling will know London is not going to end up on any “cheapest cities to visit” lists.

Over on our British TV site , we've showcased even more of their European travel videos. You can read our interview with them HERE and explore more of their work. Their videos really are the next best thing to actually making the trip yourself.

luxury travel show london

Love London – 2015 – A London taxi driver and a young Londoner travel the city to learn its secrets. Through six 30-minute episodes, the pair explore a variety of locations around the city. They include: Mayfair, Southwark, Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Holborn, Bloomsbury, Clerkenwell, and Covent Garden.

Rick Steves's Europe – 2000 to 2019 – As far as many Americans are concerned, Rick Steves is the gold standard for travel shows. Though we wouldn't go that far (his videos are far too short and surface-level), they ARE a great way to get an overview of a location. Season 7, Episode 9 visits London. Others of interest for planning a UK trip include: S7E9 Northern England, S9E8 Western England, S9E9 Southeast England, S9E10 Cornwall, s10E1 Heart of England, S10E10 Scotland's Highlands, S10E11 Scotland's Islands, and S10E12 Glasgow.

Slow TV – 2018 – This unique series has no host or narration. It's just footage of various things in London – each season covers a different sort of experience:

  • Season 1 – Wildlife in London
  • Season 2 – The River Thames
  • Season 3 – City Walks
  • Season 4 – The Tube
  • Season 5 – City Bus Rides

If you're the sort of person who likes to people watch, or the sort who likes to know what they're going to see in advance, these videos are great. For others, it's like watching paint dry. We like it, but we totally acknowledge it's not for everyone.

The Best of the Rest

Not enough armchair travel for your tastes? No worries – there are plenty more London travel videos to choose from. Below, we've rounded up quite a few more videos for your viewing pleasure.

luxury travel show london

Crown and Country – 1998 to 2007 – Edward Windsor (son of Queen Elizabeth II) takes us on a tour of some of Britain's most famous landmarks. A number of episodes are devoted to landmarks in and around London.

London: A City in Time  – 2015 – This programme mixes live footage with historical documents and photos to tell the story of London. Though listed as 2015 on Amazon, it feels significantly older so that date may not be accurate.

London: A Tale of Two Cities  – 2015 – This hour-long documentary looks at the highs and lows London has faced over the years.

London Guide: Roberts London  – 2017 to 2018 – Originally produced as a YouTube series, these videos take you on a tour of England's capital city.

luxury travel show london

Curious Traveler – 2015 – This American travel series takes us to a variety of locations around the world, but there are a few episodes specific to London. Look for Season 1, Episode 2 (London) and Season 3, Episode 9 (London Shops).

Travel in Style – Though few are lucky enough to indulge in luxury travel, we can all enjoy a bit of vicarious luxury travel with this series. Two episodes include London: Season 1, Episode 9 and Season 2, Episode 13.

Anthony Bourdain: A Cook's Tour – Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain visits cities all over the world to explore what their people eat. Season 1, Episode 22 sees him in London, attempting to dispel the myth that all British food is bland and overcooked. There's also a Scottish episode just before it.

Smart Travels with Rudy Maxa  – 2002 to 2006 – Although not exclusively about Great Britain, this series includes episodes in London, the London countryside, Dublin, Ireland’s West Coast, Bath, South Wales, Edinburgh, and St. Andrews (not to mention a lot of other lovely cities around the world).

Passport – London – This one's fairly short, but it's well-made and it offers some less conventional destinations (like a perfume maker).

Rudy Maxa's World – 2010 – This series follows a similar format to many travel shows, and the episodes include destinations all over the world. For London (and some nearby day trips), check out Season 2, Episode 3.

Travel with Kids: London – 2011 – This London travel video is not for everyone. If you like calm, adult things free of bouncing, rambunctious children…definitely watch something else. On the other hand, if you're planning a family trip to London with kids, you may find it useful.

A Taste of Travel – 2016 – This is kind of an unusual travel show in that it has a number of hosts and they each visit different places within a single episode. For London, check out Season 1, Episodes 9-11. Episodes 12 and 13 venture elsewhere in England.

Places to Go – 2018 – This is another series that visits locations all over the world, with two episodes of interest to those looking for London footage. Check out Season 1, Episode 5 for a dedicated London episode, then skip ahead to Episode 9 to see the “overflow footage” that didn't make it into their other British episodes.

Discovering the World – 2019 – This series visits a variety of cities around the world, including London. Episodes are roughly 50 minutes long, so it's a little more in-depth than some travel shows. You'll find the London episode in S2E5, but you may also enjoy the Scotland episode (S1E2).

Legendary Cities – 2014 – This series focuses on the history, architecture, and cultural heritage of some of the world's finest cities. Episode 2 takes a look at London.

Oxford Street  – 2017 – This series takes an in-depth look at one of Europe’s largest shopping districts and its day-to-day activities.

luxury travel show london

London and Paris Vacation – 2016 – This is not a typical, well-polished and heavily-researched travel series. That doesn't mean it's without merit, though. It's casual, it's honest, and it's full of great tips on saving money and maximising your time in the city. At 1 hour 40 minutes long, it's also reasonably in-depth, with a lot of scenes you won't see in most travel videos.

Portrait of a City – 2010 – Tour guide Liam Dale hosts this series about world-class cities. Episode 3 visits London.

Welcome To – 2019 – This is another one of the many travel series that visit lots of different locations around the world. Season 1, Episode 3 covers London.

luxury travel show london

Greatest Cities in the World – 2010 – Welsh actor and comedian Griff Rhys Jones hosts this grand tour of some of the world's greatest cities. Episode 2 visits London.

The Story of London   – 2014 – Six episodes walk us through different sites in London.

9 Luxury Travel Experiences in London and Paris

Dive deep into the luxury of London and Paris. These nine experiences offer a unique blend of history, culture, and opulence in two of Europe's grandest cities.

luxury travel show london

London and Paris are two of Europe’s great capital cities, and though they’re world’s apart in terms of culture and history, they’re only two hours apart via train. This makes them the perfect getaway for any traveler, especially the discerning traveler ready to plan a luxury vacation. London and Paris have plenty of unique travel experiences for those who prefer the finer things, both in terms of activities and lodging. Here are nine luxury travel experiences you can have in London and Paris.

This post is sponsored by NextTrip.

1. Enjoy tea at Harrods

high tea at harrods

It’s hard not to feel luxurious when at Harrods for high tea. From delicate finger sandwiches to freshly baked scones to delicious patisserie, you're sure to find something to tempt you at a cream tea or high tea when you visit. Truthfully, though, it all started with tea - and that’s what Harrods does best. Listen to live piano music as you sip your way through delicious Earl Gray, Hawaiian Black, Arishan Tai Milky Oolong, and Superior Sencha varieties of Harrods’ world famous tea, and enjoy this wonderful experience.

2. Take a private tour of France’s most iconic pieces of art

The Musée d'Orsay in Paris

Enjoy a private tour of the Musée d'Orsay, home to some of the world’s most notable impressionist artworks, from legendary artists such as Monet, Manet, Renoir, and Van Gogh. Your private guide will explain the significance of the pieces and be able to answer every question that comes to mind. If you’re impressed with the tour, just wait until you step into The Louvre, also known as the Louvre Museum. It’s the most-visited museum in the world, and for a good reason - it’s home to some of the most known works of art, including the Mona Lisa.

3. Take a day trip to Windsor Castle, Bath, and Stonehenge

windsor castle

If you want to see a collection of three incredible sights, a journey to Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, and the historic town of Bath is sure to impress.

Start your day trip with a visit to Windsor Castle, the home of the British royal family. You’ll see St. George’s Cathedral where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, along with the tombs of famous monarchs like King Henry VIII and King Charles I. If the Queen is staying at Windsor during your visit, you’ll notice the Royal Standard flying high over the Round Tower. One of the main reasons you’ll visit Windsor Castle first on your day trip is to witness the changing of the guard, a tradition that takes place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11:00 AM.

After Windsor Castle, your private tour takes you to the Roman Baths at the heart of the City of Bath, which is a World Heritage Site. The ancient baths were once considered some of the most important religious spas in the world, and the water still flows at them today. Before leaving, you’ll also visit Bath Abbey, an Anglican parish church and former Benedictine monastery in Bath.

Your final stop is in Salisbury at historic Stonehenge, one of the most mysterious and iconic places in the world. To this day, it’s still unclear why Stonehenge was built or who built it. One thing is for sure, it’s a stunning structure over 5,000 years in the making.

4. Go VIP at the Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge in Paris

If you’re heading to Paris, you’re likely thinking of visiting the Moulin Rouge. We suggest visiting in style by booking VIP seating tickets. There are only 24 available seats for each production, offering an exclusive private balcony with the best views of the show. You’ll also skip the line and be served a three-course dinner with Champagne and wine included.

5. Champagne tasting from the sky

Champagne tasting on the London Eye

The London Eye is always a wonderful experience, but there are private bookings that a travel representative can help you book that takes things to new heights. Turn your London Eye capsule into a Champagne tasting capsule, including a 30 minute trip around the world-famous attraction. If Champagne isn’t your thing, you could always book a trip in a wellness pod that includes a yoga class from 135 meters up, or a private pod for you to use as you please.

6. Stay in luxury at the InerContinental Park Lane

InterContinental Park Lane Royal Suite

The newly designed Royal Suite pays homage to the hotel’s location on 145 Piccadilly, Queen Elizabeth II’s former childhood residence. The timeless design of the rooms is sure to impress, as it encapsulates signature styles from Her Majesty’s early life through to the present. The new ‘By Appointment’ collection offers the ultimate luxury with a flexible design that can be tailored exclusively to the needs of each guest - so whatever you’re looking for in your accommodations, the InterContinental Park Lane can accommodate you.

7. Catch a football game in style

Emirates Stadium in London

London is home to some of the finest football teams on the planet, and you can catch a weekend game from the privacy of a first-class booth when you visit. One of London’s most storied teams, Arsenal takes the pitch at The Emirates Stadium, one of the most luxurious stadiums in the Premier League. An executive box gains you access to an incredible menu, professional caterers, as well as unparalleled views of the action. These are the best seats in the stadium, coming with merchandise, private parking, and staff to wait on you as you watch the game.

8. Cruise the Seine

The Seine River, where travelers can experience a luxury dinner cruise

There’s nothing more romantic than a trip down the stunning Seine, as you take in views of the city, including the Eiffel Tower, l'Arc de Triomphe, the Place de la Concorde, and Notre-Dame. While you take in the sights, you’ll be served a first-class dining experience, full of French cuisine, Champagne, wine, cocktails, and dessert.

9. Stay in “Les Grands Appartements”

luxury travel show london

Hôtel de Crillon was originally built in 1758, and thanks to its incredible location, impeccable restorations, and unparalleled dedication to service, it continues to operate today. Overlooking Place de la Concorde, the property reopened in 2018 as a Rosewood Hotel after undergoing an extensive four-year restoration, bringing with it a rich history that inspires its modern design.

The late designer Karl Lagerfeld has designed two exceptional suites called "Les Grands Appartements," which reflect his vision of French chic and modernity. In addition to fine dining options and a swimming pool area, the Hôtel de Crillon also has an intimate spa to help guests unwind. If a luxury stay is what you’re after, look no further in Paris than Hôtel de Crillon.

Spending time in London provides access to some of the finest experiences in the world. With sumptuous accommodation, exquisite dining, the very best in shopping, and world-renowned attractions, the range of luxury things to do in London is extensive.

London

Discover many of the best in this guide.

Best Places to Stay

Getting your accommodation right is key. Luxury oozes out of these exemplary locations, making them among the best places to stay in London.

Best Hotel Experience

The Lanesborough, Hyde Park

Regency styling delights in this palatial five-star hotel that is located a mere few minutes walk from some London’s most desirable shops. No matter where you stand in this delightful building, your senses are inspired with the artful decor. Each of its rooms are a luxury experience of the highest quality and are coupled with the very finest service to create a stay like no other.

Rooms from £855.

Or consider:

  • The Ritz, Piccadilly – The most famous five-star hotel with over a century of history.
  • The Connaught, Mayfair – A true delight where service rules supreme.

Best For Pampering

Sea Containers, Southbank

With an exciting location on the Southbank, Sea Containers is a beautifully designed hotel that houses the impressive Agua Spa. Described as a “spa playground”, the hotel is one of the finest places to be pampered in the capital, featuring the “Mud Cure” body treatment for a traditional Turkish full-body exfoliation and “Hot Basalt Booster” rejuvenating hot stone therapy. Private treatment rooms and a couples’ suite are alongside steam rooms, nail and grooming lounge, and a fully-equipped fitness centre.

Rooms from £215.

  • Langham Hotel, Marylebone – The home of Chuan Spa, suffused with calmness and peace.
  • Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park – Enjoy revitalising massage and anti-aging facials.

Best Hotel Alternative

Sanctum London

When looking for the best places to stay in London, Sanctum provide a five-star hotel alternative that is perfect for business travellers, families, and those looking for a longer stay. Their three serviced apartment locations offer fully equipped apartments with multiple bedrooms, separate private living room, and comprehensive kitchen facilities.

For luxury service and amenities combined with the size and convenience of a complete apartment, Sanctum is a pleasing hotel alternative.

Two bedroom apartments from £215.

  • Andrew’s Houseboat on Airbnb – A unique offering on the Thames with a view of London Bridge.
  • John and Ellen’s Chelsea Townhouse on Airbnb – A truly inspiring delight in the heart of London.

Best Places to Eat

The range of quality luxury London restaurants is staggering, catering to absolutely every taste. It’s not all about dining, either, as restaurants compete for awards and recognition in some truly unique ways. Eating out in London can be as much about the experience as the food itself, making the evening as much an attraction as anything planned for the day.

Best for the Food

BiBi, Mayfair

BiBi is a true luxury, an Indian restaurant brought to life by chef Chet Sharma, a veteran of the Ledbury, Gymkhana and Moor Hall. Dishes here are as tasteful as the surroundings, a place of polished wooden floors and delicately ornate ceilings. Each item on the menu is crafted to perfection, mixing an incredible range of spices with a master’s skill to indulge the tastebuds, sometimes into a fiery evocation, but always inspired.

BiBi is a sharing adventure, as every dish is intended to be split between two, allowing for a full range of tastes to be experienced throughout the night before leaving both sated and thrilled.

Approx £45 per head.

  • Scott’s, Mayfair – A legendary seafood restaurant where the puddings delight.
  • Bob Bob Ricard, Soho – Top quality French restaurant where you can press a button for champagne.

Best for the Experience

Dining at The Ritz is a complete fine dining experience. From the moment you step into the world-famous building, you know you are part of something special, with a dress code that insists that you take the place seriously – there are no jeans or trainers here. The food is a Michelin starred masterpiece, delighting every reviewer and critic to enter, not to mention the discerning diner. No matter what you choose from the menu, however, taking dinner at The Ritz means you are part of a long tradition that stretches back over a hundred and fifteen years. Here, kings and queens, politicians and celebrities, scientists and world leaders have all eaten – it is an honour to be among them.

Approx £75 to £125 per head.

  • Dans le Noir – Experience eating in the dark for a unique night out.
  • Inamo, Covent Garden – A fusion of Asian dining and love of technology.

Best for the Quirk

Not all posh London meals need to take place in an uptight environment. At Sexy Fish, the incredible Asian sea food is somewhat uniquely complemented by aquatic-themed artwork by Damien Hirst, an onyx floor and an internal water wall. The feeling of being submerged into a somewhat surreal undersea location is strong – here is a place where the very lucky can dine under an enormous mirrored crocodile.

It is the almost lunatic decor that makes Sexy Fish a quirky standout restaurant, but for all that, the food is apparently quite delicious, too.

Approx £50 to £75 per head.

  • Restaurant Ours, Knightsbridge – Dine among huge indoor trees for quality food in an unique environment.
  • The Windmill, Soho – Mix cabaret performance with top-quality food for an entertaining evening.

Best Places to Shop

London has some incredible luxury shopping. Shopaholics from around the world enjoying coming to the UK capital to find the very best in designer fashion, try some hands-on technology, or find specialised boutiques filled with unique gifts. With plenty of great locations, it’s easy to spend the day mixing heavy duty shopping with some great lunch and dinner.

Best for Fashion

Knightsbridge

Home of the world-famous Harrods department store, Knightsbridge also offers a range of designer boutiques and the entrancing Harvey Nichols. Unique designer clothes, beautiful bags, the latest in fashion footwear, and classy exquisite jewellery are all available from a range of posh London shops that include Gucci, Lulu Guinness, Cutler and Gross, and Ted Baker.

  • The Royal Exchange – A luxury shopping centre in the midst of the financial district.
  • King’s Road – The forefront of fashion in London since the swinging 60s.

Best for Family

Hamleys, Regent Street

Once upon a time, Hamleys was the largest toy shop in the world. With the advent of massive warehouse toy suppliers, that crown has since been lost, but where giant retail stores are filled with line upon line of unappealing towering shelves, London’s Hamleys is a true toy-centric experience for all the family. From an exciting welcome by a street performer or perhaps a giant monkey, through to the hands-on displays of the latest toy tech, through to the exciting life-sized Lego statues, Hamleys oozes the kind of childlike delight that thrills children and adults alike.

  • Camden Town – Eclectic crafts and edgy clothes in a teenagers haven.
  • Covent Garden – Mix street entertainment with specialist boutiques and delightful cafés.

Best for Food

Borough Market

Situated close to London Bridge station, Borough Market is a foodies’ joy. Though it’s not huge, the variety and unique character of this fabulous market bring a vibrant joy to the palate. Taste fine artisan breads dipped in unusually flavoured oils, enjoy a range of quality cheese or sumptuous olives, or try something crazy like a kangaroo burger. The tantalisingly fresh nature of the goods from Borough Market will have you creating dinners that burst with flavour and have you racing back for more from one of the best London food places.

  • Ledenhall Market – The architecture alone makes this long-standing market stand out.
  • Covent Garden – Enjoy afternoon tea and a wide range of specialist foodstuffs.

Best Places to Visit

London has more attractions spread through its streets than it is possible to list, but some definitely stand out. Simply walking around the capital of the UK brings its own attraction with street performers, centuries of incredible architecture, unique art, verdant parkland, and pop-up rides all simply part of the scenery, but for a full day out, why not visit the following luxury things to do in London:

Best for British History

The Tower of London

The home to the crown jewels (check out the size of the vault door!), ravens, and tight cells that held a range of famous villains throughout history, The Tower of London is an engaging attraction in the heart of London itself. The building itself has its roots back over a thousand years, with the early sections built after the Battle of Hastings in 1066, and with ten centuries of history comes a wide range of stories to tell. The Tower of London is an enthralling education experience for all, featuring exhibits that have never been – and will never be – seen elsewhere.

Entry from £29.90 (adult).

  • Hampton Court Palace – Once home to King Henry VIII – the kitchen is a marvel.
  • The Clink Prison Museum – Learn about London’s underbelly – not for the faint of heart.

Best for Art

The National Gallery

Taking up the north end of Trafalgar Square, itself a location worth visiting, the National Gallery in London houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Marvel at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers , Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond , or da Vinci’s The Virgin on the Rocks , alongside hundreds of others. With something for everyone, the National Gallery has no pretension, presenting the art in an accessible way for all to enjoy. The space is vast, with perfectly placed benches to sit and muse over items in the collection, and easy navigation through galleries for those who pretend to ingest their art as they walk. For anyone unused to a gallery on this scale, the sheer immense size of the paintings in the gallery is often breathtaking, a feeling only increased upon closer inspection. The works here truly are masterpieces.

Entry is free for all.

  • Tate Modern – Enjoy the surrealism of Dali and Pablo Picasso, alongside modern classics.
  • The British Museum – From the Elgin marbles to the Rosetta Stone, the British Museum is a collection of priceless pieces from around the world.

Madame Tussauds

The world famous Madame Tussauds waxwork museum has long stood as one of the premier attractions in London. Each year the collection is added to, bringing contemporary figures into the mix to keep the sights relevant to everyone. With technology also aiding in the experience, visitors can enjoy the spectacle of the 4D Marvel Universe, be chilled in the Chamber of Horrors, or experience the huge monstrosity of and 18-foot tall King Kong in Skull Island.

An essential part of any visit to London, Madame Tussauds is a family outing beyond compare.

Entry from £32 (adult).

  • The Natural History and Science Museums – A day’s adventure among dinosaurs and rocket ships.
  • KidZania – Kids role play as adults in this job-centric educational funfest.

Enjoying Luxury London

With so much to offer, London is more than posh shops and luxury places to stay. There are plenty of parks and green spaces to enjoy and relax in, myriad specialist shops lining the streets, and an adventure in its own right exploring the city. Choose quality accommodation to make sure you have somewhere wonderful to return to each night, and enjoy your time in the UK capital.
